  1. [color=#4B0082]Only thing I've heard is that they did away with real world holidays to make localization easier, and that they'll have other holidays specific to the AC world instead. I'm not really too worried about it, though, as I'm guessing a lot of the fictional holidays will still draw inspiration from real ones. I think a DS Wi-Fi sub-forum in The Nexus would be great. A swap meet type thread for AC would be handy for requesting things in item trading and whatnot, and maybe we could hold Mario Kart turnaments in another. As more Wi-Fi enabled games are released, I could see the sub-forum getting a decent amount of activity.[/color]
  2. [quote name='Monkeyfeet63']Yeah well thanks. Yes I admited their in no actual lineage. So if we all think of the game as if the sages are dead, then well it might make the game a little more dramatic. And for those against the ideas of happy endings, just go "I bet the sages died", thats what I like to do. Makes a tear come to my eye when the sages give their final messages.[/quote][color=#4B0082]Eh, I've never felt the need to add any grief to OOT's ending. Navi's departure already gets me bawling. :animecry: ... Okay, so not really, but I still like OOT's ending as is. I think it's one of the best in the series.[/color] [quote name='joshdude89']On the thing about starting back at Ganon's tower after you beat the game or starting as a kid or something. I have beat the game a few times and I will sit through the "The End" scene for about 10 minutes and nothing will happen. Does it work on the N64 version[/quote][color=#4B0082]Um...not exactly sure what you mean here, but the game doesn't save after you beat it. So if you hit reset or turn the power off after the ending (which you have to do, otherwise it'll just sit forever), you'll be back wherever you last saved your game when you load the save file again. When I beat the N64 version for the first time, I had last saved just before the door leading into Ganondorf's chamber. So when I loaded my save file again after watching the ending, I started back at the entrance to Ganon's Castle. And I'm pretty sure the GCN ports, including Master Quest, do the same thing as well.[/color]
  3. [color=#4B0082]About the lineage of the sages, I've come to the conclusion that it's not really based on ancestry. In OOT, when you go and awaken the sages, they don't seem to have any connection with any predecessors. And you'd think there would have been other sages before them since Rauru, the sage of light, was obviously around before the new sages were awakened. Also in TWW, Medli and Makar don't seem to have any relation to the sages before them, yet they awaken as the new sages of earth and wind. So my current theory is that certain people just posses the qualities necessary for being a sage, and if the right circumstances arise, they can be awakened as such.[/color] [quote name='Monkeyfeet63']And for where I got the idea of the sages dieing, was from a gamefaqs article. Where one guy said "Impa then runs of to the shadow temple, and is killed then awakened as sage, jut like the others" I tought this was plasible, as there still from these boards is no plausible evidence that says there alive or dead. Everyones "facts" still are based on abstract ideas that were left open by the game. Which are fantastic when it comes to creating a conversation piece.[/quote][color=#4B0082]Well, here's the problem: That never happens. I don't think you ever even see Impa at all while you're an adult until after you defeat Bongo Bongo and you see her in the Chamber of Sages, awakened as the sage of shadow. I think Sheik tells you she's gone to the Shadow Temple to try and seal away the evil spirit again, but it never says anything about her, or any of the other sages, dying. I'm not quite sure what's abstract about the idea of the sages being alive after Ganondorf is sealed, though, when you clearly see them in the ending. Yeah, that scene can be interpreted in different ways, but the literal interpretation -- which fits all the evidence, as I've shown -- is that they're alive. To me, the theory that they die seems a lot more abstract. So sure, you don't get something like this... [URL=http://img14.imageshack.us/my.php?image=sagesalive0uc.jpg][IMG]http://img14.imageshack.us/img14/5185/sagesalive0uc.th.jpg[/IMG][/URL] ...but the evidence is still pretty solid. Either way, though, you're right about it making a great topic for discussion. Oh, and that's one of Saria's lines that you mentioned, isn't it? I always figured she said that because she'd be living life as a sage, dealing with everything that entails, while Link would go back to live an at least semi-normal life. (Or at least try -- the events of MM kind of screwed it up, but that's another story.) So they wouldn't really be seeing each other nearly as much or maybe even at all after that. The thought of the sages dying had never even crossed my mind until you brought it up.[/color]
  4. [quote name='Monkeyfeet63']Now this is not for the sake of the arguemnt or anything. But we see the sages walking around at the end of the game. But it seemed very simliar to the end of return of the jedi when you see yoda, anakin, and obi-wan standing around in the ewok village. Your not going to tell me they were alive and well too?[/quote][color=#4B0082]Heh, I think that's stretching a things a bit far. The scenes are kind of similar in how they're presented, true, but that's hardly grounds to say they have the same meaning. Brasil's sarcasm aside, they [i]did[/i] look exactly as you see them in the game previously when they're standing on Death Mountain. And when they're flying overhead, they look just like Link does when he's using one of the warping songs, so the power for that sort of thing certainly exists in the realm of the living. And I think people have some misconceptions. ...[/color] [quote name='Goddess']The Sages are alive at the end of the game. Just, as you mentioned, in another plain of existence. Have you heard of a "parallel universe"? Pretty much the same thing.[/quote][color=#4B0082]This is impossible, or at the very least, there's no evidence for it. The Sacred Realm is the only alternate dimension/plane of existence that we know of that's connected to Hyrule. (And before anyone brings this up, Termina from MM is a parallel universe, not an alternate dimension. We know this because Termina is completely different from Hyrule, whereas the Sacred Realm closely mirrors Hyrule, as seen in a Link to the Past where the Sacred Realm has been turned into the Dark World. Also, Holodrum and Labrynna from the oracle games are most likely different lands in the same world as Hyrule, as there's evidence that anyone can freely travel between the three.) That means, if the Sages are alive, they're either in Hyrule or the Sacred Realm. And I think I just made a pretty conclusive argument about why they wouldn't be in the Sacred Realm, heh.[/color] [quote name='Aaryanna']Well I?m confused as to how you thought the sages were dead in the first place. They were alive when the seal was made, and it was made to trap evil. The sages are not evil so therefore the seal would not trap them so to speak.[/quote][color=#4B0082]The first bit here is right, but then it starts to fall apart: The seal on the Sacred Realm was made to seal in Ganondorf, who is indeed evil, but the seal affects everything. There's conclusive evidence for this in A Link to the Past, where perfectly good people were trapped in the Dark World with no way out. (Remember the various talking trees and the storytellers scattered about? Not to mention the maidens, who were descended from the sages.) So, presuming the sages had actually sealed themselves into the Sacred Realm, they wouldn't have had any way to escape short of breaking the seal. I've missed talking about Zelda storylines and theories. There hasn't been a good discussion like this on OB for far too long. :)[/color]
  5. [color=#4B0082]I've been waiting four years for this. Ever since I got my original GBA back in June 2001, I've been waiting. And now the moment has finally arrived: Final Fantasy IV is being brought to the Game Boy Advance. N-Sider posted a link to the [url=http://www.square-enix.co.jp/ff4a/][u]teaser page[/u][/url] that Square Enix put up for the game. Most of the text is in Japanese, but the message is still loud and clear. I can't wait to hear details. There's a few things I'm especially looking forward to with the GBA version. First, I've wanted to be able to play the hard type version of the game without suffering load tiimes on the PS1 for a long time now, so that'll make it a lot more fun for me. I've gotten so I can breeze through most of the easy type SNES version without any trouble, so some extra challenge will be very welcome. Second, I've also been yearning for an updated translation like they did for the PS1 port, as the SNES translation is more than a bit watered down. And third, it'll be nice just to have a portable version of the game. I'm buying this one as soon as I can. Anyone else interested?[/color]
  6. [quote name='Monkeyfeet63']True, you would not see them in the end of the game if they did that. But the temple of light is within the sacred realm, so its a possibility tehy could not escape. especially if they were dead.[/quote][color=#4B0082]Yes, that [i]was[/i] a possiblity, but think about it logically. There are two two possible outcomes here: 1) The sages being sealed away and/or dead, and 2) the sages remaining alive in Hyrule. Those two outcomes contradict one another, so only one can be true. To tell which outcome is true and which is false, you have to look at the evidence in the game. That evidence is the scene in the ending which shows the sages alive and in Hyrule. Therefore, since the evidence confirms outcome 2 as being true, outcome 1 must be false. Or, in other words, it shows that the sages being sealed/dead is no longer a possiblity.[/color]
  7. [color=#4B0082]Kikkoman is awesome; just had to try my hand at this, heh. [img]http://img352.imageshack.us/img352/222/150x80kikkoman9cs.gif[/img] http://img352.imageshack.us/img352/222/150x80kikkoman9cs.gif [img]http://img52.imageshack.us/img52/7534/kikkomanbanner4gi.gif[/img] http://img52.imageshack.us/img52/7534/kikkomanbanner4gi.gif[/color]

  9. [quote name='Solo Tremaine][COLOR=#503F86]Anyway, please remember to give [b]reasons[/b'] as to why you drool over specific bishounen. Simple lists constitute as spam, really.[/COLOR][/quote][color=#4B0082]This still holds true. Lists with no rhyme or reason to go with them get deleted. Oh, and I drool over myself.[/color]
  10. [color=#4B0082]No, Rauru says specifically that it's the Temple of Light, located in the Sacred Realm. I don't recall it ever being refered to as the sage realm. ... The specific room in the Temple of Light where you see the sages is called the Chamber of Sages, but that's just a room in the temple. There's a script of all the text from the game (the Text Dump one, under In-Depth FAQs) on [url=http://www.gamefaqs.com/console/n64/game/197771.html][u]GameFAQs[/u][/url]. Take a look at Rauru's lines from when you first wake up in the Chamber of Sages:[/color] [quote]Link... Wake up... Link, the chosen one... I am Rauru, one of the ancient Sages... Ages ago, we ancient Sages built the Temple of Time to protect the entrance to the Sacred Realm... This is the Chamber of Sages, inside the Temple of Light... The Temple of Light, situated in the very center of the Sacred Realm, is the last stronghold against Ganondorf's evil forces. The Master Sword--the evil- destroying sword that you pulled out of the Pedestal of Time--was the final key to the Sacred Realm. Link... Don't be alarmed... Look at yourself...![/quote] [color=#4B0082]And as for the sages sealing themselves in, the ending contradicts that, and I don't know of anything else that would support the theory. Besides, they were able to send Link in and out of the Chamber of Sages easily enough, so I wouldn't think they'd have any trouble returning to Hyrule before casting the seal.[/color]
  11. [color=#4B0082]I assume you mean the Temple of Light when you say "sage realm"? That being the place where you wake up after first pulling the Master Sword out of the Pedestal of Time, and where the sages give you the medallions. The problem with them staying in the Temple of Light is that it's located in the Sacred Realm. (Rauru tells you this when you first acquire the Master Sword.) So after sealing Ganondorf into the Sacred Realm, they'd have no way to get back to the temple without breaking the seal. Which would, of course, defeat the whole purpose of sealing him away in the first place. So the sages had to stay in Hyrule after Ganondorf was sealed.[/color]
  12. [color=#4B0082]That would be because the celebration you see during the end credits, which includes the scene showing the sages, takes place in the "future" -- the time when Link was an adult. If you remember, you never see Link during that celebration because he was sent back to live through the years he missed, and you see all the other characters as they were when you met them as an adult. (Malon is old, etc.) So it would make sense for Ruto to appear as an adult in that scene.[/color]
  13. [QUOTE=Bombu][color=darkred]The answer to that is to level everything and everyone up! Looking back at FFTA, that's what I'd most likely do lol (if that's possible; I'm yet to play both games, even though I badly want to). I was also playing FFVI on the PlayStation from my Anthology pack last year. I actually started the file some time in August, and it just kind of dragged on. I'm yet to beat the game though; I picked up from where I left off a few weeks ago, but still, I got no where fast. The main problem about FFVI for me -- as I've said a million times here already ? is that it's way too slow. Especially when opening the menu screen, as it takes [i]ages[/i] to load, amongst many other things. I think I'm going to give up on that version of FFVI for good now, and just play the game when it comes around for the DS... assuming it won't suffer from the same problem.[/color][/QUOTE][color=#4B0082]Eesh, yeah, that sounds horrible. I have the SNES version of FFVI (aka FFIII), and it takes maybe a second to open the menu -- and only that long because it does its little fade effect. And if you set the battle speed to 1, things really fly. They must have [i]really[/i] botched the PS1 port because FFVI is anything but slow. As for me, I. ... Damn, what [i]was[/i] I playing last year? I think it must've been Skies of Arcadia Legends at about this time in 2004, since it was the last game I bought before Metroid Prime 2 Echoes, which was released in November. Skies of Arcadia Legends was a fun game, but I thought the battle system was a bit lacking. Especially towards the end of the game. Offensive magic was really underpowered compared to Vyse's special attacks, so towards the end the other three party members would just heal and use the focus command to supply Vyse with enough spirit points to use Pirate's Wrath every other round. Funnily enough, I think I also finished up FFVI around then. I'd gotten close to the end and then sort of lost interest for quite a while, but I eventually came back to it and plowed through the rest of the end dungeon. It was nice to finally see the ending.[/color]
  14. [color=#4B0082]Actually, I hadn't heard anything about this before now. Is there any solid information or is it all just rumors so far? Personally, I wouldn't mind the dual screens being implemented as extra viewing area. I mean, there's always plenty of shafts in Metroid games, so it could certainly be handy. And for fighting Ridley. ... Man, that would've been nice in Super Metroid. It could be hard to keep track of where exactly the bugger was, only being able to see half the area of the room at once. It's not especially innovative, but then, putting the map on the second screen isn't either. I just hope they don't try to use the touch screen too much. Making it so you could select between missiles/super missiles or whatever by touching the corresponding icon could be neat, but I'd still want a button to toggle through things. For Metroid, you need both hands on the buttons (touch control movement would be horrible in a 2D sidescrolling game), so having a toggle button would probably be easier, faster, and less error prone than having to touch an on screen icon while in the heat of battle. Personally, I think the 2D Metroid formula has nearly been perfected in terms of control. I don't think any of the DS' extra input devices would really improve things at all. Though what I would like is the ability to remap the control configuration, like you could do in Super Metroid. I can't stand the default configuration in Super Metroid, so being able to remap the controls was really nice. And now with the DS having just as many buttons as the SNES, I have a feeling that may be needed once again. To really perfect it I still think you need at least three shoulder buttons, though. Two for aiming diagonally up and down, and one to activate missiles. (So that you don't have to take your thumb off the jump/fire buttons to pop off a quick missile or two.) Holding L and then pushing down to aim diagonally down works okay in Fusion and Zero Mission, but after playing Super Metroid again I could really tell those two had been designed so that you don't need to aim diagonally down very often. In Super Metroid you need to do it all the time, and quickly too.[/color]
  15. [color=#4B0082]:animesigh I don't think Morpheus was blaming anyone in particular, let alone you. Notice he said "we," which, when read in context, seems to refer to the general populous. When I read that paragraph it sounded like he was saying that a lot of deaths could have been avoided if people had payed more attention to the calls for evacuation and if the government had done more to provide ways for them to get out of the area. So there's no need to start flinging insults; let's keep it civil. Oh, and double posting is against the [url=http://www.otakuboards.com/rules.php?][u]rules[/u][/url] here, so please use the Edit function if you need to add something to a post. Or if you want to quote multiple posts, you can just put the quote tags in yourself. (In this case, [q[i][/i]uote=Red]Copy and paste the post here.[/q[i][/i]uote].)[/color]
  16. [color=#4B0082]There are times where I get the "connection was refused" error in Firefox when I try to access an Otaku site here, but it usually goes through after a couple tries at most. I don't remember having any speed issues lately that weren't just due to my ISP, though. But yeah, run a check for spyware, and it can't hurt to try clearing your cache and cookies. Also check whether you have any other programs running that use a net connect and could possibly be using up your bandwidth.[/color]
  17. [quote name='Shinmaru']Ha, basically. Though something tells me that I shouldn't want anything to do at all with Desbreko's fruit. :twitch:[/quote][color=#4B0082]"Shouldn't." ... So does that mean you do, but feel like it's wrong? Is my fruit a guilty pleasure? ;) But yeah, some of the hats they've shown are funky. Personally, I'm hoping for a Link hat. A full Samus helmet would also be pretty cool, heh. There's tons of stuff they could do with hats besides the "normal" stuff.[/color]
  18. [quote name='Shinmaru']EDIT: Gee, what does it say about the Play It mods when we're the only ones joking about abuse of power? :D[/quote][color=#4B0082]It says we're awesome. Duh! But yeah, I just wanted to reinforce what James said: It's not so much length that matters as what's actually being said in a post. There've been times where I've left a single sentence post alone while deleting another that was a paragraph long because the single, clear sentence had more meaning than the other whole paragraph of mindless babble. Length ≠ Quality[/color]

[color=#4B0082]Yeah, you can actually do quite a bit with just vB tags. To see the full list of tags, with examples, you can check out the [url=http://www.otakuboards.com/misc.php?do=bbcode][u]vB Code List[/u][/url] in the site FAQ.[/color]
  20. [color=#4B0082]I cook a decent amount since it seems to be the most efficient way to restore TP. Though I pretty much cook the recipes that restore TP and nothing else. They're handy when I'm going through a dungeon and using a lot of techniques to take down the harder monsters fast, before they can do much damage. I really need to play this game more. It's always a lot of fun when I pick it up and play for a few hours, but I tend to go a few days between play sessions for some reason. Even moreso now that I'm busy with school, too. ... I swear, Guild Wars might as well be a drug; it always steals my gaming time away from ToS. :hippy:[/color]
  21. [color=#4B0082]*merges this with the original OOT thread* Anyway, I'm not sure where you got the idea that the sages die when they awaken, because they don't. They're the ones that make the bridge to Ganon's Castle and you see them in the ending, remember? All of them are alive and well after the events of OOT.[/color]

[color=#4B0082]Yeah, you can. HTML, CSS, and JavaScript all work on myOtaku pages, and you use the code just like you would on any other page. Basically, nearly everywhere that you can enter text, you can use HTML tags, CSS declarations, JavaScript, etc. Though you don't have access to the section of the web page, so any code that should go there has to just be put in your introduction. It's not technically correct, but it works.[/color]
  23. [color=#4B0082]I've no idea if members can edit their own events, but for me there's a little drop-down menu in the lower righthand corner of the event message when I view it, which says Event Options. In there I can select Edit Event, and it takes me to a page where I can change the title, dates, message, etc.[/color]
  24. [color=#4B0082][b]A) Which aspect of OtakuBoards do you find to be the most negative/confusing?[/b] The way vB handles the re-ordering of avatars makes it a lot more trouble to alphabetize them and such than it should be. And some other parts of the mod/admin control panels are a little less user friendly than they could be. But those are faults of the software itself, not OB in particular, so meh. The only other things that come to mind have to do with stuff that people (no, I don't have anyone specific in mind) post on OB, rather than OB itself. So I don't think those would really count, considering there's always people who write less than great posts. If there weren't, I would've been out of a job here long ago. :p [b]B) What is your favorite aspect of OtakuBoards?[/b] [strike]Me, I like playing god with peoples' accounts. It's funny to watch them beg.[/strike] ... Er, just ignore that bit. :animeswea I've always liked being able to come here to read and take part in discussions about video games in the gaming forums. (Whatever they've happened to be at the time, from the console/series forums to the consolidated Play It forum.) With the standard of quality here being higher than most other boards on the net, there's always been a lot more threads that I actually care to read and reply to than I find elsewhere.[/color]
