Gaming Is there anyone else here who dosn't like DDR?
Desbreko replied to rawopotato's topic in Noosphere
If you want to talk about DDR, please use the thread already in existance. In this forum we keep a single thread for each game (or series, in this case, since the games are all alike), in which to discuss any and all aspects of it -- including dislikes, complaints, etc. Thanks. The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess This one needs no explanation, but I have to say, I really can't wait to see how they're changing the combat. I've heard it's supposed to balance out the slower paced combat in OOT/MM with the mad hack-n-slash frenzy of TWW, which sounds great to me. OOT's fighting can actually be decently complex if you don't just blindly mash the B button or spam Spin Attacks to get through fights, and the fast pace of TWW's combat was lots of fun, so putting them together for a deeper, fast paced combat system would be great. Mario Kart DS I can't wait to get my DS online and school you all in this game. I've loved every entry in the Mario Kart series, and this is looking like it could be the best one yet. It's supposed to have more tracks than any other game in the series, with classic tracks from the previous games being included (the ones from the 2D games being recreated in 3D), which I think will be awesome. Here's hoping for an all Rainbow Road cup, with each game's version of the track. Tales of Symphonia Yes, I know this was released last year. I will buy it before the end of 2005. ... If I can ever stop playing Guild Wars long enough to go up to GameStop and get it. >_>;
hi I LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE INUYASHA!!!!!!!!! who else does?!?!?!?!?!?! :animesmil :animeswea
Er. ... That's nice, but this isn't really the place to talk about Inuyasha. We have a thread for the series here if you'd like to talk about it. Just remember to follow the rules (which include staying on topic), please.

Welcome to OtakuBoards. We maintain a single thread for each anime series in this forum, so if you'd like to talk about Vandread, please use the thread already in existance. Also, keep in mind that we have somewhat higher standards here than most other online forums. (You should read the rules for more details on what is/isn't acceptable here, if you haven't already.) Simply saying that Vandread is cool isn't enough. You need to tell why you think the show is cool -- or in the other words, what you like/dislike about it. Those sorts of posts are what get discussion going, and that's what we encourage here. If you have any questions, you can PM me or another staff member and we'll try and help out as best we can. Enjoy your stay. :) Thread Closed

Am I the only one who actually enjoyed the Cloister of Trials puzzles in FFX? Yeah, there were a couple that were annoying (mainly the Bevelle Temple one because of the stupid moving platform), but for the most part, I thought they were fun. They reminded me a lot of old point-and-click adventure game puzzles, and I thought they provided a nice change of pace from the rest of the game. One of my favorite games for puzzles, though, is Zelda: Ocarina of Time Master Quest. All of the landscape is the same as OOT, but nearly everything else inside the dungeons is completely mixed up, so it provides the same feelings of discovery and accomplishment even if you've played through the original OOT before. And if you have played through the original OOT before, I really love how it takes what you know about it, turns that knowledge completely around backwards, and then slaps you for thinking you already know how things work.

There's already a thread about SEED/Destiny, so there is some interest around here. Please use that thread to talk about the series, as we only keep one thread per series. Thanks. Thread Closed

I think another problem is that, when it comes to using official art in wallpapers, a moderator may not be familiar with the source material. So when they see the wallpaper, they won't really know how much it's been edited, and thus can't make an accurate judgement about it. Take my Chobits wallpaper for example. At first glance, it just looks like a cut-and-paste of some official art. (And in fact, it was removed once for that very reason after it had already been approved and posted for a number of months.) But, if you're familiar with the original piece of art (see attachment), you can tell that it took some extensive editing to make it fit the 1024x768 dimensions.

I do a lot of salvaging, and I keep all the crafting materials I get. ... So yeah, they start to build up after a while. They really need to add guild storage so I can dump some of my common materials in there for public guild use -- I'm running out of space here. :animestun My stock of steel, linen, and silk mainly has to do with how much I play Arik and Amelia, since I can salvage those from drops in the later areas of the game by using an expert kit. (With a decent chance of actually getting the rare materials instead of common ones, that is.) So whenever I get around to going through the ascension missions with Amelia, or going on in the story with Arik, I should get some more.

I have tons of common materials if anyone needs stuff for armor. I currently have... 639 Bolts of Cloth 672 Bones 050 Feathers 201 Piles of Glittering Dust 210 Granite Slabs 437 Iron Ingots 173 Plant Fibers 248 Shells 737 Tanned Hide Squares 561 Wood Planks I also have some rare materials, but I still have three more characters to buy armor for, so I'm a bit stingier with those, heh. Contact me in game with what and how much you need and I might be able to help you out.

Okay, I just went through and uploaded another big batch to the archive. Got a lot of good ones added, but I'd like to remind people to make sure that the avatars you submit meet the requirements stated in the original post. (They must be exactly 150x80 pixels in size, and have either a one pixel black border or a one pixel black border with a one pixel white border just inside that.) Quite a few didn't get added because they were either the wrong size or didn't have a correct border, so it's important to pay attention to those. But anyway, I'll be checking in on this thread every now and then to add new submissions, so keep 'em coming.

I suppose it was a good while ago now, but I watched the series and also read the manga a bit later. I thought it was a cute story, but sometimes it just seemed like it was trying too hard. Trying to be funny, or trying to be serious, but not quite getting things right. It was entertaining, though not really one of my favorites. I think the best part of the series, in my eyes, was just watching Sumomo and Kotoko interact. Seeing the two completely opposite personalities bounce off each other was always fun.
Also, can someone tell me how to edit polls?
I don't know if regular members are allowed to, but if they are, there should be a little "Edit Poll" link over to the right of the title of the poll. And I went ahead and switched out ZFSA for Baten Kaitos for you. And I swear I will buy Tales of Symphonia. ... Some time. >_>;

Whee! Reviving an old game/anime thread is always fun. :catgirl: So I just finished watching the first season again, and wow. When I got done watching the series and reading the manga originally, I knew it was my favorite anime out of anything I'd seen yet, and rewatching the first season only helped confirm that. The episodes had me smiling, laughing, and sighing just like they did the first time I saw them. One of the main things that raises an anime above the rest, in my eyes, is its ability to retain very nearly the same feel upon watching it over again. (Same as I judge video games that way.) And Ranma ½ -- or at least the first season -- passed the test with flying colors. Now I think I may very well go on to rewatch the second season, and possibly beyond; I'm confident that I'll continue to enjoy the series as much as I have in the past. And, uh, yeah. That's all.
-
Wow, that would be awesome if I could the full set for only around $30-40 or so. It looks like a series which I'd really love to own for myself, so I'll definitely keep an eye on that. Thanks for the heads up.

If all you're looking for is a way to beat the boss, you'd be better off looking for info at GameFAQs. They've got numerous walkthroughs for the game. Also, we already have a thread for FFX-2, which you can find a link to in the Play It Thread Directory. Please post in it if you'd like to discuss anything about the game. Thread Closed

I've seen the first six episodes of His and Her Circumstances (i.e. the first DVD), and I absolutely loved them. The series, at least from what I've seen so far, has a perfect balance of humor and seriousness. One moment I'm feeling attached to the characters and really caring about them -- then the next, I'm laughing at them. It's great. I'm sad, though, because Netflix has listed the second DVD's availability as "unknown" for a few weeks. I'm kind of doubtful that they'll ever get it back in, so now I'm pondering other methods of getting my hands on the second DVD.

Though this isn't a fix in itself, it may help you get more information about what's causing the problem: Go to the My Computer icon, right click it, and select Properties from the context menu. Open the Advanced tab, then click the Startup and Recovery button. Then, under the System Failure section, uncheck the Automatically Reboot checkbox, if it isn't already. With that unchecked, the system won't automatically reboot if it's a program that's causing Windows to crash; instead, you'll get the "blue screen of death." Of course, you'll have to reboot the system anyway. ... But that way you'll at least know it's most likely a software problem rather than a hardware problem, and you can go from there.

I'm not exactly a huge anime fan, but I have been steadily watching more and more of it over the past few years. Who knows when that will top off and/or begin to fall back off again. ... But that's not important to the subject. Now that I really stop to think about it, I think the thing that makes me more interested in anime than live action movies and TV shows is just the fact that it's animated. Fantasy has always been my favorite type of books, video games, and now anime, and the animation helps to convey that sense of fantasy which I enjoy. I suppose it's sort of the same reason why I prefer less realistic games over the more realistic ones; photorealistic (or close to it) graphics don't convey that sort of feeling as well for me, so in the same way, live action doesn't convey it as well as animation does. It might seem a bit odd, but I actually find that with this sort of thing, less realistic mediums are more immersive -- and thus more enjoyable -- than more realistic ones.

I don't know as much about other areas of the board, since I don't really follow them as much, but I wouldn't say post quality is declining in the Hardwired section, at least. If anything, I'd say it's actually improving, and has been for a long time. Yeah, there's still spammy posts; but I've noticed that out of the number of people who actually keep coming back and don't just leave after a few posts, most of those are at least decently high quality posters. And as much as I like to rag on Otaku Lounge (because Play It is obviously superior, you know ;)), I'm pretty much always able to find a decently intelligent discussion in the forum that's at least somewhat interesting to read whenever I get bored. Which is something I couldn't really say for a good part of OB's history. So people must be doing something right if the forum is starting to live up to my inflated standards for reading material. :animesmil

You don't have to completely resubmit a wallpaper to change its category. Just go to the page with the wallpaper thumbnail on it, where you can select what resolution you'd want to download it at, and there'll be a bold link that says "Edit Wallpaper" in the Expanded Information section. Click that and you'll be able to change the wallpaper's title and category. I believe it'll have to go through the submission queue again before the changes take effect, but it's still easier than resubmitting the whole thing.

I'd try getting some anti-virus software also. I've gotten some things which Ad-Aware and Spybot couldn't pick up, but that got caught by Norton AntiVirus. Between those three, I haven't had much trouble with spyware/viruses.
This is what I've said in my posts... Even in terms of movies, the rating system is voluntary just like with games as is the sale of them. The government isn't involved. The idea of something being intense or longer applies to both R into NC-17 as it does with M into AO. The main problem for a lot of these politicians is really that there's no social stigma involved in children buying these games (unlike movie tickets), there's no penalties for children buying these games (unlike movie tickets) and the people in the ESRB are essentially industry employees to begin with. If this was like how the film rating groups worked then no one would have any complaints to begin with.
Yeah, I know. I was mainly replying to the people who were saying they didn't see why San Andreas would be given an AO rating for this, while other games remain with an M rating. That it doesn't have anything to do with San Andreas being more mainstream or whatever; it's simply how the ratings work.

Gaming Console front plate customization, Sink or Swim?
Desbreko replied to SilentSecurity's topic in Noosphere
OK so some people think it's a good idea, but if it's too expensive what's the point? It's not like a car or something where everyone on the highway can see your new customized hood or something, only you and anyone who comes to play the console will really appreciate it. So will their purpose be to make the owner feel good knowing he has the coolest looking XBOX 360 in the neighborhood? ~Wes~
Well, I don't know about others, but if I got something like this for a system of mine it would be purely for myself. I'm the one who'd be looking at the thing the most, so I'd like it to look good, regardless of whether or not other people saw it. Personally, I think it's kind of stupid to buy something like that just to try and look cool or whatever. Since, you know, anyone else can go out and buy the exact same thing. -
