1. Okay, so I made it to Lion's Arch yesterday and checked out each of the guild hall islands. All of them look really awesome, but right now I'm leaning towards either Warrior's Isle or Wizard's Isle. I'll have to think about it some more before I decide which I'd want to vote for. Oh, and I have some stuff that I'd like to get rid of, if anyone wants any of it: Mesmer Rune of Major Inspiration Magic Upgrade component Improves Inspiration Magic Health -50 Mesmer Rune of Minor Illusion Magic Upgrade component Improves Illusion Magic Staff Wrapping of Enchanting Upgrade component Enchantments last 11% longer Poisoner's Axe Haft Upgrade component Lengthens Poison duration on foe Cane Chaos Dmg: 9-15 (req. 5 Domination Magic) Energy +12 Energy regeneration -1 Jeweled Staff Energy +8 Chaos Dmg: 9-15 (req. 6 Illusion Magic) Two-handed Contact me in game or PM me if you want anything.
2.
hmm cait got a new pet. Or, a new master. I never understood his character too well...
I think that's just Red XIII that Cait Sith is riding on in that picture. Really, though, I'm kind of hoping they'll keep his giant, stuffed moogle. Dunno about other people, but I always thought it was funny to have something as absurd as that walking around with the other, serious characters. I'd miss it, were it not included in Advent Children.
3.
I guess the same could go for Safer too, but I don't think anything could top Bizzarro's Supernova.
I think you've got those two mixed up. Safer Sephiroth -- the second, "one winged angel" form -- is the one that uses Supernova. Bizarro Sephiroth is the first form, where you (usually) have to split your group into multiple parties to fight it, and doesn't use Supernova.
4. The Radeon 9000 is listed in the recommended system specs, so the game should at least run, if not perfectly smooth. I've got a GeForce FX 5200 and the game runs smooth so long as I turn the graphics settings down. Even with everything all the way down, though, it still looks pretty good.
5. Right, so I finally just went out and got my own copy of the game and went through pre-searing all in one go. ... Since I had already done it all just a couple days before. But anyway, Arik Desbreko is my level 8 Monk/Mesmer. If I could get an invite to the Quantum Kabuki Troupe some time, that would be great. Having people to party with would be really nice, since I can't really solo anymore in post-searing. I'm specializing in healing and protection, so I don't have much damage output.
6. After looking up the Action Replay FAQ on GameFAQs, could this be your problem?
Okay now Codes for the RS Pokemon are a bit more complicated, the codes are the same sheme but longer: (note: these codes will only work with real AR V3 if you have an updated AR/GSA they will NOT WORK)
Sounds like the R/S Pokémon encounter codes only work with the original AR v3, and you said you have an AR v3.3, so that could be why they aren't working.
7. My brother bought Guild Wars yesterday, so it looks like I'm going to be able to at least try it out by making a character on his account. Sucks that I won't be able to join the Quantum Kabuki Troupe without buying my own copy of the game, though. Right now I'm debating whether it would be worth it, or if I'll be cheap and just leech a character off my brother. So, a couple questions: Would I still be able to join up with you guys for quests and whatnot with my character in a different guild? And would I be missing out on many benefits by being in a different guild?
8.
I haven't played even a one Zelda-game ever in my life (I've only seen this crappy cartoon video), but I find it very amusing that Link has to save the goddamn same princess in every single game (or at least I've been given that impression). How can one single princess be so utterly brainless that she lets herself be kidnapped over and over again?! I can understand that happening once, since it's one of the duties of being a princess to get kidnapped once in a lifetime - how else could one find an eligible bachelor prince to live happily ever after with? But, this is one thing I consider to be a big joke in a series. ;) BTW, Shinmaru, you just killed me with that Tomb Raider joke! :p
Actually, it's almost always a different princess Zelda for each game. I won't get into the whole series timeline, but the Zelda games span quite a lot of Hyrule's (and other lands') history. The Mario games are a much better candidate for the "chronic princess kidnapping" thing. Also, Cid is in Final Fantasy Tactics Advance, too. He's the judgemaster in Ivalice.
9. As far as I know, Ezel can't learn any new abilities. There are a few characters that you can get who have their own special job, and can't learn any skills other than the ones they come with -- Ezel being one of them.
10. You know, I've been thinking about Nintendo's showing at E3 with the Revolution, in comparison to Sony's. And now I'm wondering what the reaction would have been like, had Nintendo shown a few tech demos, non-final hardware specs, and a slightly redesigned Wavebird for the controller. Because, you know, that would've been about the same as what we got from Sony. I'm betting people would've been pretty disappointed with that, same as they are with Nintendo not showing much at all. But then, why does Sony get away with it? Why is everyone so hyped up over the PS3? Sorry, but pre-rendered CG video that may or may not reflect what the PS3 can actually do doesn't really get me excited, and an ugly Dual Shock 2 addaption doesn't help. Heck, Sony didn't even say anything about their plans for online play (at least not that I remember), whereas Nintendo did give some details on that. So why are people so much more excited about the PS3 and disappointed with the Revolution, when we've barely seen anything substantial from either?
11.
Lavos was a *****. I had such trouble with him my first time through. Strangely, I was able to beat him with only one character on another time through in New Game +. Maybe they lower his HP, I don't know.
I don't think its HP changes or anything depending on when you fight it, since they expect you to be higher level on a New Game + and able to handle the fight. It's just that a lot of the fight's difficulty comes from you not knowing what the heck you're dealing with on your first attempt. Especially during the final stage of the fight. If you go in knowing Lavos' attack patterns from the start, it's not that hard, provided you bring a decent amount of healing items.
12. Very interesting article. I can agree with pretty much everything in it, too -- especially number 12. I really hate it when games do stupid crap just to artificially increase the difficulty. If a developer wants to make a game hard, that's great, but they shouldn't make it hard for stupid and annoying reasons that will only piss the players off. Oh, and I'm moving this to the Play It forum since the article is talking mainly about consoles.
13.
My favorite boss in an rpg? Sephiroth! Im suprised no one has said this yet.

Braska's Final Aeon in FFX and Sephiroth in FF7.
Guys, please read the Favorite Thread Guidelines sticky thread. Posts that just say, "Such and such is my favorite," and leave it at that are against the rules.
14.
Kingdom Hearts. >_>
Um ... Kingdom Hearts isn't a Final Fantasy game. It just has some FF character cameos. KH is a completely separate series. Also, please read the Favorite Thread Guidelines sticky thread. Just posting a title and saying nothing about a game is something that would normally get deleted for being spammy. Thanks.
15. I merged this with the original Sacred Stones thread. And also, there's a thread about Path of Radiance, the new GCN Fire Emblem, if anyone wants to talk about that. Oh, and when you start a new thread, it's a good idea say more about the game. We get that you like it, with the quote, "I don't regret my decision," but why is that? Going into detail is always good, even if you don't go really in depth. It helps get the discussion going and generate some good replies. Just something to keep in mind when starting new topics.
16. Heh, I'm actually looking forward to more this year than I was last year. Obviously I'm ecstatic about Zelda: Twilight Princess, but games like Animal Crossing DS, Mario Kart DS, and the new Super Mario Bros. also have me nearly as excited. The advent of Nintendo's online wi-fi network is another thing I'm really looking forward to -- being able to play together with James, Shinmaru, and everyone else I know online with a DS is going to be absolutely fantastic. And then games like Nintendogs and Electroplankton have gotten me really curious. I don't know yet whether I'll be buying either, but I definitely want to try them out. So while the current generation consoles are winding down, there are still going to be some excellent games released before their "deaths." Remember, there were some awesome games released for the N64 not too long before the GCN was released; games like Super Smash Bros., Zelda: Majora's Mask, and Paper Mario. Plus, the Nintendo DS is just winding up, so we'll start seeing a lot more good games for it. I think that even without PS3 and the Revolution, this year will be plenty awesome.
17.
This topic is obviously going to get very spoiler heavy.
Yeah, it probably is. So remember to use spoiler tags, everyone! Instructions on how to use them can be found here, if you don't know how. And if you're not sure if something should be spoilered or not, just go ahead and do it anyway -- it's better to be safe than sorry. :) I think I agree with QuincyArcher about Lavos, from Chrono Trigger, being my favorite end boss. Lavos may not really be much of a villain, exactly, but the fight is nonetheless very memorable. Especially after going through the game's whole story, which is excellent in itself, and then coming to the final conclusion. (Which can be done in a number of ways, each of which are interesting in themselves.) Beating Lavos actually felt like an accomplishment, regardless of the fight's difficulty level.
18. I've been a subscriber to Nintendo Power since 2000, and they really have improved a lot. I'm liking the new design, too -- they're focusing less on walkthrough sections now, and more on news, previews, and reviews. Plus the special sections like Community, which had an article on the Pokémon competition in Seattle and that interview with Beck this month, are interesting. Overall, there's a lot more stuff I'm actually interested in reading now. So I'd say Nintendo Power ranks as my favorite game magazine now. I had been subscribing to Electronic Gaming Monthly and Game Informer off and on, but when my subscriptions ran out recently, I just didn't really feel much incentive to renew. It was nice to get more multi-console articles, but I can get most of that online anyway. Nintendo Power, especially now after the revamping, actually has stuff I'm willing to pay for which I can't just get online.
19. The bit where Cloud finds himself or whatever in the Lifestream helps to clear up a lot of questions about the game's backstory, but yeah, unless you find that hidden scene, there's still a lot of loose ends. Plus, there's a lot of stuff involving Sephiroth, Jenova, and the clones that isn't very apparent unless you pay close really attention. The sequence where you first go to the Northern Crater comes to mind -- lots of hard to follow, yet very story-important dialogue. And in hindsight, yeah, everything now seems perfectly clear to me. But when I was first playing through the game, I had to spend a good hour on scenes like the Northern Crater and Lifestream ones, just to read the text carefully while keeping straight all the other details I'd learned earlier in the game, to make sure I understood thing correctly. And I did understand nearly everything just from that one play through, but I don't think it should've required as much effort as it did. Personally, I think the Cloud/Zack cutscene would've fit better as another mandatory part of the Lifestream sequence. It ties right in to the other events you see during that part, and is nearly as important.
20. I might like to see FFVII remade on the PS3, provided they revamped the translation. The US version was confusing as heck if you didn't pay really close attention to the dialogue (and find the hidden cutscene with Cloud and Zack). If they did that, I would probably actually buy it. But otherwise, I'd have a hard time justifying the $50 (or more, if next generation game prices go up) price tag just for prettier graphics. About the tech demo itself, I have to admit, it looked really awesome. Almost made me want to go replay FFVII again. ... Until I remembered I'm still lending it out in return for Chrono Cross, heh. I've always really liked FFVII's intro movie, and seeing Midgar rendered with PS3 quality graphics was amazing.
21. I've been hearing KH2 will be released towards the end of this year, but I don't know if an official release date has been announced. But anyway, we already have threads for all the Kingdom Hearts games: Kingdom Hearts Kingdom Hearts 2 Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories Please use those if you'd like to discuss the games. Thanks. Thread Closed
22. *merges with the original FFX thread* First off, Blitzball is completely optional, except for the one time where the story forces you to play. If you do play, you can get some items and whatnot from it, the best of which being more Overdrives for Wakka and the Jupiter Sigil. It takes a lot of wins to get them, though. Personally, I just skipped them, seeing as how I too find Blitzball to be extremely boring. As for the hidden aeons, if you can get Anima, that should be more than enough. Yojimbo's attacks are a waste of money, and the Magus Sisters annoy me, seeing as you can't really control them, even if they are powerful. Myself, I went through the game without ever really relying too much on aeons, so if you level up a decent amount, you shouldn't have any trouble beating the game. I found
Lady Yunalesca
to be a lot harder fight than the end boss, so if you can get past that, I don't think you'll have much of a problem. Getting the celestial weapons fully powered up certainly does help a lot, but they're not necessary. I found Auron's Masamune to be the most helpful, though, and I don't remember it being all that hard to get both the crest and sigil for. ... But then, I don't remember how to get most of them, heh. Though at any rate, getting a weapon with the Break Damage Limit ability on it for your main damage dealer will help a lot. If you level Auron up, he can easily break 9999 with his overdrives. Or if Lulu knows Doublecast and Ultima, combining those two with the Break Damage Limit ability can yield lots of damage. Oh, and since it sounds like you're close to the end of the game, have you found the Omega Ruins? If you can get through those okay, the end boss shouldn't pose too much of a threat.

I was also a bit disappointed that more of the Revolution wasn't shown, but like James was saying, it's not really all that surprising. Its launch is still a good ways off, whereas DS online play is coming this year. It makes sense that they'd focus more on the DS than the Revolution. Really though, do you think showing the full, finished product off later than the PS3 will really effect sales? Once people see the final version, they're not going to be griping about not seeing it earlier. They're just going to know that they want it, same as they'll want the PS3. The launch dates are far enough off at this point that whether we see it a few months earlier or later won't make a difference.
24. Well, I can't really say I'm excited about this, considering I already own a GBA, GBA SP, and DS. So I won't be buying one of these myself. Another reason, though, is that the only advantage I see the Micro model having over the SP is the headphone jack. (I'm assuming that's a headphone jack on the right side of the cartridge slot, anyway. Looks like it.) Really, I can't image ever having enough room for this, yet not having room for an SP. And I doubt it'll be anywhere near as comfortable to play as an SP, unless your hands are way, way tiny. If these Micro models are a good bit cheaper than the SP is, however, I can see a good use for them: Inexpensive GBAs for use with GCN games like FF: Crystal Chronicles and Zelda: Four Swords Adventures. It would be a lot easier to justify spending $40 or $50 on a Micro, than it would be to drop $80 for an SP. I wonder, though, with the reduced size of the system, if the screen is the same size as the GBA/SP's. Anyone heard whether the screen size has been changed?

I like the design, myself. Nice and compact; about the size of an external DVD drive, looks like. Though I do prefer top-loading drives, I trust Nintendo's hardware enough that I'm not afraid of the self-loading drive scratching up my discs when they're inserted/ejected. As for color, black is fine with me. Personally, I think the white of the PS3 and Xbox 360 is kind of ugly. I'll take black, gray, or some other color over white any day. Though I think this is kind of irrelevant, considering they're showing a variety of colors -- black is just all we've gotten pictures of so far. No doubt there will be at least a couple colors to choose from come launch day. About the controller, I'm really curious about its design. Perhaps tomorrow, when E3 actually opens, we'll get a look at it. But considering how the Revolution is backwards compatible with GCN games, and will also be able to play downloadable N64/SNES/NES games, I doubt it's going to be too drastic a change from the GCN controller. I'm guessing it will be new things added to the old, since it still has to work with all those old games, rather than a complete overhaul. And speaking of which, that part still has me giddy with excitement. There's a lot of old Nintendo games that I've missed out on for one reason or another, so being able to go back and play them on the Revolution will be absolutely wonderful. And it sees like Nintendo is really going all out with online features this generation, so I can't help but wonder what else they have up their sleeve.
