Does anything more need to be said?! The classic Kokiri warrior has survived the test of time, and the wrath of Ganondorf's evil. He has needlessly plundered into the darkest of dungeons, waded the widest of rivers, and slew the most malicious of evil viliains; all to save his love, Zelda. What else need be said than "duh, Link"?
Well, what you just said is fine. As long as you give a decent reason beyond "because it's cool," or whatever other generic word for "good" you want to use, you don't really have much to worry about. Noting some of the hardships that Link has had to go through, and his motive for facing them through to the end, is a great reason for choosing him as your favorite swordsman -- you just have to actually state that reason. So the problem with only writing "Duh, Link" is that it can't really express more than that he's your favorite.

Interesting. ... Though I wonder if this is actually going to have much effect on the consumers. I doubt they could get away with higher prices, seeing as GameStop and EB Games aren't the only places you can get games. Besides the two GameStops and one EB Games in town, I can always go to GameCrazy or Best Buy instead. And I think satan665 is right; sounds like GameStop is buying out EB Games, so that would be why they're going with the GameStop name. Kind of like how they merged Software Etc., FuncoLand, and Babbage's into GameStop.
There isn't really much thought to the game, which attracts some, but when it comes to the real gamers, its just not intriuging.
That's quite the claim, there. It compels me to mention that in EGM's volume 150 "100 Best Games Ever" article, Tetris was rated 2nd, and in Nintendo Power's volume 100 "100 Best Games of All Time" article, Tetris was rated 3rd. Methinks it's the "real gamers" who appreciate Tetris' simple, addictive gameplay. Even I do, and I'm not at all a fan of puzzle games in general. But whatever. I don't expect everyone to like Tetris, though I think it's obvious a majority of gamers out there do. And nice essay piece, Hack Helba. That's really interesting about the GMRs, and I have to agree; a quick paced game of Tetris really gets your mind racing. Quite the mental workout, heh. Teaches you to both think quick and plan ahead at the same time.
The PSP has better graphics, but that is the only thing it has over DS. The music and movies thing is coming to the clamshell. In Japan, there is something called Play-Yan that will act as a music and movie player. The ds has better control, games, (Castlevania DS?) and will soon be wi-fi internet capable FREE.[/SIZE']
So I hope we've learned a lesson here? Or if you haven't picked up on it, posting in the PSP thread just to say the DS is better is a bad idea. Use the PSP or DS thread for that. (And make sure you have some decent arguments, as well.) Otherwise, as you've seen, you'll get beat down by Charles. :p

Poking around on cgnetworks.com where the image is hosted, I found the thread that the image was posted in: http://www.cgtalk.com/showthread.php?t=155791 It looks to be an original 3D model, though whether it's based on an existing character I don't know. I couldn't find much about Makkoya Entertainment on Google, either, and I don't recognize her from any game/anime that I know of. So I'd be inclined to say it's an original character. I'll move this to the Art Studio, since it doesn't seem to be a video game character.
Hahaha!Tetris.. ah, that old thing. I do occassionally enjoy Tetris, however it is predictable, it always has a terrible sound track and lacks multi-player capabilities. I guess that's the worst of it. Darn, that was difficult ^^"
I love my A-Type and B-Type themes (C-Type is sort of meh) from the Game Boy version of Tetris. That's quality 8-bit generation sound right there! :p Also, the Game Boy version also has Link Cable support for multiplayer. Those games get intense sometimes and can easily eat up even more time than the single player mode. Something bad about Tetris, though? Well, I think the main thing is that it doesn't really draw me in. Sure, once I start playing I can get hooked and spend a good while on the game. But when I'm just sitting there, looking for something to do, Tetris is usually my last resort. I barely ever feel the desire to play it until I've already started, so it's almost always an outside influence that makes me want to.

Why were the anime archive boards closed?
Desbreko replied to Bloodseeker's topic in Help & Feedback
The Anime Archives and Video Game Archives forums were created to store all the pre-version 7 threads that weren't current, and thus didn't get transfered over to the new Anime Lounge and Play It forums. Since the current thread system used in the Anime Lounge and Play It wasn't implemented until v7, all of those old threads would've created quite a mess when doing searches from anime/game specific threads. Hence they were moved into the archive forums for read-only storage. -
I'd assume from the link he posted that the thread is about the new Fire Emblem game on the GameCube. According to Nintendo.com, it's currently scheduled for a Q2 2005 release; I haven't heard anything more specific than that. Also, I haven't heard an official English subtitle for it yet, so for now the thread will just be called "Fire Emblem for the GameCube" -- once the subtitle is announced, I'll rename the thread accordingly. Oh, and if anyone's interested, there's already a thread about the second GBA Fire Emblem game, known as Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones.

That option has never worked, at least not for me, though. I've always had to manually adjust my time zone setting one hour forward to get it to display the correct time, then change it back when daylight savings time ends.

GameStop, as mentioned, has high quality used systems/games for reasonable prices. Going by the prices quoted on their website, you could get a used GameCube, Memory Card 59, Super Smash Bros. Melee, and Metroid Prime for only about $130. There's also a lot of other good games that you can get for about $20 or less on the GCN, such as Zelda: The Wind Waker, Skies of Arcadia Legends, F-Zero GX, Super Mario Sunshine, Soul Calibur II, etc. I tend to be wary of eBay when buying used games, though. Because, let's face it, there are a ton of people out there who take horrid care of their game discs, ending up with them being scratched all to hell. When buying from a place like GameStop, you at least know they've tested the games out first, and that you can easily return them if they don't work.

Gaming Nintendo...the final nails in the coffin?
Desbreko replied to Bloodseeker's topic in Noosphere
Look, all of these companies are going to live on. Sony is a powerhouse, Microsoft is the biggest company in the world, and Nintendo is intellegent. There is really no reason to discuss this any longer.
I agree. All the relevant information on the topic has already been posted (as well as some faulty counter-arguments and flat-out wrong information), and there really isn't anything more to say, so I'm going to close this before it degrades into a bunch of flames. Gaming The rumor bin... Where nobody knows what they're talking about.
Desbreko replied to 2010DigitalBoy's topic in Noosphere
*fixes the grammar in the title* Yeah, nothing important, but I'm funny like that. ^_^; But anyway, it's been confirmed that Nintendo's Revolution will be backwards compatible with GameCube games, so I think we can kiss the "no control cross" rumor goodbye. If it's going to be backwards compatible, I'd think the controller would need at least everything the GCN pad has. I think it was also announced that Revolution controllers wouldn't feature a screen at all, though I can't remember if that was official. I'd think they'd leave the dual/touch screen thing to the DS, seeing as that's most of what makes the DS special. There'd be a bit too much market overlap between the two systems for their own good, I think, since all the DS would have going for it then would be portability. Virtual reality would be awesome, and the way technology is going, it's sounding like it may not be too far down the road. I just wonder how long it would take for it to be marketable, though. As we've seen with a lot of "cutting edge" game consoles that cost more than the standard $200-$300, it has to be affordable in order to sell, no matter how good the tech is. And I think Microsoft is fooling itself if it thinks jacking up the price of the Xbox 2 is going to make it profitable. See the above paragraph for that. Personally, I can't see many people dropping $700 on an Xbox 2. I sure wouldn't, when I could upgrade my PC way beyond what the Xbox 2 will feature in the way of hardware for the same price. -
I take it you're talking about the second PS2 game, which isn't yet released in the US...? If not, there's already a thread on the first game, which can be found here. Please use that thread for discussing the first Fullmetal Alchemist game on the PS2, and this one for talking about the second game. *edits title*
This fully 3D Pokemon game sounds awesome. I've always loved the portable gameboy games, so it's cool to see Nintendo working on something a lot of people are for. The only problem is I don't own a Gamecube nor do I plan on buying one until the next gen consoles come and the Cube is really cheap, perhaps. I also want a DS but want a PSP but I can only get one at this point. I'd love to see more portable Pokemon games, as well.
Or just start saving up for the Revolution now, as it's supposed to be backwards compatible with GCN games. And speaking of 3D Pokémon games and the Revolution, I've always thought an MMORPG would be perfect for the Pokémon universe. With the Revolution's WiFi support, it could be done, and I'm betting tons of people would go for it. It would be a perfect extension of the GBA Wireless Adapter used with FireRed/LeafGreen, as well as Diamond/Pearl on the DS undoubtably using the DS's wireless capabilities. Ever since seeing the original Pokémon Stadium, I've dreamed of this becoming a reality.

Heh, for all those theories, it still doesn't change the fact that Cloud beat Sephiroth in his entirety. First his physical body in Nibelheim, then whatever Bizarro and Safer Sephiroth are, then his final consciousness afterwards. (Notice I didn't argue that the final battle is with Sephiroth's actual physical body? I doubt it could've survived the breaking up of the Northern Crater. At that point, I think Sephiroth's consciousness, or will, is all that's left of him -- hence, that is the "real" him. And my point still holds that if it were just an illusion, and not his true self, he would've still been around to keep Holy in check.) No matter how you slice it, Cloud wins. But Erika is right, this is getting a bit off topic. If you'd like to continue the discussion, Lord Dante, we should make a separate, FFVII-specific thread for it. Talking about FFVII's storyline and whatnot is always fun, so I'd definitely be up for it, if you want to get it going. And now I think I'll finally reply to the original question. :animesmil Anyway, it so happens that my favorite RPG character is also a swordsman, so Cecil from FFIV is my pick. And I think my post in the Favorite Final Fantasy Character thread sums up my reasons for choosing him about as well as I can express, so to avoid repeating myself, I think I'll just quote the post. Simply read "favorite Final Fantasy character" as "favorite RPG swordsman," heh.
As for my favorite Final Fantasy character, that would be Cecil Harvey, the main character of Final Fantasy IV (FFII on the SNES). In the game's opening we see him as a dark knight, commanding the nation of Baron's fleet of airships, the Red Wings. At first he seems almost like a "bad guy," as he steals a crystal from the people of Mysidia, but then we see he's not too happy about it. He questions the King of Baron's motives for stealing crystals from innocent people, and ends up being relieved of command of the Red Wings and, unwittingly, is sent off to destroy a village of callers (aka summoners). Throughout the game you discover more and more about who Cecil really is, at the same time as he's finding out for himself. All the while he tries his best to do what's right, through the corruption and manipulation happening all around him in the world. He stays determined even as his best friend betrays and almost kills him, and eventually turns from the ways of the dark knight and becomes a paladin. You really have to admire the strength of will that Cecil has; there are times in the game where, if I were Cecil, I would be sorely tempted to just give up. No matter what happens, he presses on, determined to find out the truth behind the evil around him and then put a stop to it. He doesn't always succeed, and he actually gets his butt kicked a few times (and that's another thing -- he's not one of those all-powerful characters), but he keeps going. And I like his attitude, also. He doesn't have an "I don't give a crap" attitude, he isn't a smartass, and he doesn't mope about. He's not overly serious, but he also doesn't screw around. He cares about the people around him, and he fights to protect them -- he feels genuinely guilty about what he did to the Mysidians and the village of Mist, and does whatever he can to make up for his mistakes, even going as far as turning against his own country to protect Rydia, a survivor from Mist. Overall, Cecil has a lot of good qualities about him that I like, and his personality isn't too far off from my own, so I find that I can relate to him a lot more than most other characters in the Final Fantasy series. All of this combines to make him my favorite character in the series.
If anyone really wants the full list of games that I've beaten, check the attachment. It's way too long to go in depth for each one, so I'll just talk about a few of the games I've most recently played through. The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap I completed this one for the second time just earlier today. Even as I was playing through for the first time, I knew that replaying it would be inevitable -- it is a Zelda game, after all. But my first time through I missed one of the sidequests, so this was my first time playing through and doing absolutely everything in the game. Now I'm wondering how long it'll be before I play through for a third time. Super Mario 64 DS I got this with my DS over spring break, and it was really nice to play through Mario 64 again. It had beens years since I played the N64 version, and I was really getting anxious to play through again. It took a bit to get used to using the touch screen instead of an analog stick, but overall I think the DS remake is just as enjoyable as the N64 original. Super Mario World I actually played through this one twice in a row just before getting my Nintendo DS. At the time, Mario World was the next best thing to Mario 64, and I have a lot of time to kill riding the bus out to school. Those two factors combined had be beating the game twice in the space of about a week. And it did quite well at staving off Mario fever, heh. Going farther back, my memory starts to get a bit foggy on the order I beat games in (I replay games a lot, making it hard to remember), but I think I played through Metroid: Zero Mission for a fourth time before picking up Mario World again. Either that or the GBA version of Zelda: A Link to the Past, for an eighth time. And eventually you'd get back to Skies of Arcadia Legends on the GCN, which I think is the latest game that I beat for the first time, not counting Mario 64 DS. Not to mention the ever-present PlanetSide, which I've been pouring hours into for the last five months. Though that's a PC game. Oh, and if you liked Metroid Fusion and Metroid: Zero Mission, you should really play Super Metroid. It wins out over both GBA Metroids in nearly every area.
the thing that was the worst was that i had no clue whether i dodged 200 or not so i kept playing for as long as i could just to be safe. that really worried me.
I kept count as I dodged. I'd dodge ten, duck beneath a tower for a few seconds and count "one," then repeat until I got to twenty. (20 sets of 10 being 200 total.) I kept going after getting all 200, but quickly stopped caring and got sloppy. My record is something like 218 I think. I can see how it would be a lot more nerve wracking if you didn't keep count, though. Never knowing how many more you need would be horrible. :animestun

*looks at the last two posts* ... I don't know whether I should delete those on account of them kind of being spammy, or just point and laugh. ... *points and laughs* Though seriously, let's try not to completely let ourselves go, eh? I don't even get basic cable, but I was enjoying the discussion about the various shows all the same. ^_^

Google is your friend. Just be careful of the hentai and, even worse, bad cosplay pictures you sometimes find with image searches. :p You'd probably also get decent results just from doing a web search for DMC fansites and looking for ones with image galleries. I find all sorts of official game/anime art and whatnot that way. Sometimes it takes a while of patient searching, but it usually pays off in the end.
^ doding the lightning bolts wasnt so hard difficult as it was annoying. all you need is a lot of patience and thats just about it. i really did hate getting that. i honestly dont know what i was thinking when i completed that. the one i hated the most was getting Kimahri's celestial item. that d*mn butterfly mission was ridiculous! i havent and probably never will get it either.
Yeah, I have to agree here. I didn't find dodging the lightning bolts all that hard -- it only took me two tries to get all 200 in a row. Though it was pretty annoying to get to 180 or so on my first attempt and then get hit. Your best friend when dodging lightning bolts is a weapon/armor that blocks random battles. Otherwise you'll find yourself getting hit just before/after a fight, before you can react to dodge. It becomes so much easier when you don't have to worry about that, not to mention making it take less time. The Chocobo race was more annoying, but still not all that bad, I thought. It's really just a matter of 1) getting used to the crappy control, 2) finding the right path to take along the course, and 3) learning how to dodge those stupid birds. Once I got those three things down, it wasn't very hard. The butterfly thing was indeed the worst for me. Mainly because the game gives you a side view, rather than an overhead view, so you can't actually see where the butterflies are on the path. Which makes it so you basically just have to use trial and error to find out where along the path to run, so as to collect the blue and avoid the red ones, and then go from memory. Which is an absolute pain in the butt when you're required to do some pretty precise maneuvering in order to slip between two red butterflies. The only things I didn't do in FFX was get Wakka's other Overdrives, and get his celestial weapon fully powered up, simply because I find Blitzball to be horribly boring. Sure, I would've been willing to play a good number of games to get them, but from what I read it can take upwards of 100. Yeah, I can be pretty insane about doing absolutely everything in games. ... But not that insane. Yeesh. But enough about FFX. Personally, the hardest and most satisfying challenge I've ever accomplished would probably be beating Trinexx, the boss of Level 7: Turtle Rock in Zelda: A Link to the Past with as few hearts, items, and upgrades as possible. I don't think I'll ever forget that fight. Now, before playing through on that minimalist game, none of LTTP's bosses gave me any trouble, seeing as how I'd played the game so dang much. I knew the absolute best strategies for taking each one down. ... Or so I thought. But I found that being able to take no more than four hits in a boss fight not only hones your skills until you're better than you ever thought you'd be, but it also makes you get very creative in coming up with strategies. I found myself resorting to things I hadn't ever thought of trying before -- and they worked. Finally triumphing over Trinixx, the game's second hardest boss, was more satisfying than any other gaming challenge I've passed. I'm sad to say I still haven't yet managed to complete that minimalist game, however. Ganon remains as the one obstacle between me and the glory of seeing "The End" of my insane challenge. Whenever I do muster the patience to sit down and perfect my strategy and execution, however, the accomplishment will replace the Trinexx fight in claiming this honor. Compared to Ganon, everything else in the game seems like a breeze.

I've merged this with the old Favorite Video Game Enemy thread, since they're pretty much identical in topic. It's an old thread, but still relevant. As for my favorite enemy. ... I'm not sure, really. I've never given much thought to which is my most favorite, but there are a few that I really like. In regards to random monster type enemies, I've always liked Darknuts from the Zelda series. Fighting a room full of blue Darknuts, with two fireball-spitting statues in the center, was one of the hardest things in the game. You had to be really good at dodging and stabbing with your sword, so as to get around to the side/behind them since they're impervious to frontal attacks. Killing a full room of them without taking a hit and without using sword beams is such an awesome accomplishment. They're also cool in The Wind Waker and The Minish Cap. I'm really glad they brought back Darknuts for those games, and I hope they continue to have them in future releases. They're so much more fun to fight than the Iron Knuckles (from Zelda II) that were brought back in Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask. I also have to give a mention to Desbrekos (can you guess why?), those huge skeletal fish from Zelda: Majora's Mask. They actually grab on to you with their jaws, then drag you around underwater for a while before letting you go. Definitely the best original enemy from MM.
his will got beaten by cloud. not his physical form. bizarro, safer, and true sephiroth are all sephiroth's will manifest. sephiroth's actuall physical body has been encased in materia the whole time, in suspended animation. the sephiroths you keep running in to over ff7 are all manifestations of sephiroth's will.
Not quite.
The real Sephiroth was indeed the one that you see suspended up in the Northern Crater, while the Sephiroth you had been encountering earlier was a clone controlled by him. But when Meteor is summoned and the Crater's bottom breaks up, Sephiroth falls down with it -- which is exactly where you fight Sephiroth during the end battles. Bizarro and Safer Sephiroth are just more clones or whatever (Sephiroth/Jenova hybrids?), but the third fight is actually him. Remember Cloud's line? "He's still here." Cloud can sense Sephiroth's presence, yet when he kills the third Sephiroth, the feeling vanishes and he's calm again. Now, if Cloud could sense a fake Sephiroth even after destroying two previous fakes ... wouldn't you think he'd know the real thing? Also remember that Sephiroth was the one holding back Holy. If it were only the fakes that were killed, and not Sephiroth himself, Holy wouldn't have been free to play its part in stopping Meteor. But as you see in the ending, it obviously was freed to act. Therefore, Sephiroth himself must have been destroyed.
So Sir Auron does have a point. Cloud > Sephiroth. :p
C'mon guys, this is no good. You need to tell us why[/i'] these are your favourites; simply listing names isn't enough. This has gotten to be more of a problem lately, so I'm going to be taking it more seriously. That means warnings sent out after fewer offenses, and bans shortly after if there's a failure to improve. With the rules screaming "quality!" and a sticky thread spelling things out as clear as they can be, no one has an excuse.
