  1. [color=indigo]I was waiting for someone to bring this thread back. About time, heh. Anyway, yes, the more people you have playing FSA together the better it gets, just like the original FS. I've played through most of the game in two player mode, and I like it more than single player. Not to say that playing by yourself is bad -- I've also had a lot of fun playing in one player mode -- you just don't quite get the "full experience." When you're playing by yourself, it's more like a normal one player Zelda game, since the game loses the cooperative/competetive elements. Even when you're playing in multiplayer mode, however, all four Links are always present. In two player mode, each player gets control of two of the Links. But the thing is, you can also steal the Link that the other player isn't permanently controlling. So say I was 1P controlling Green Link, with Blue Link tagging along behind, and 2P was Red Link with Purple Link following. I could walk up and pick up Purple Link, and then he'd be following me so that I'd have control of three of the Links. And there are actually times when this is required, and more when it's just generally helpful. I've yet to be able to play with three or four players, though, so I can't comment on those modes yet. I'd think that, in three player, one person would control two Links while the other two would control one, and you could pass around the extra Link when needed. Really though, there isn't a whole lot to say about the multiplayer that you can't include in single player mode other than, obviously, you have multiple people controlling the Links. While it is more fun to play with friends, it's not a huge step up from single player or anything. So if you don't have GBAs to play the game in multiplayer mode, it's still more than worth the purchase soley for single player. I suppose I should also mention Shadow Battle while I'm talking about multiplayer. I've only played a few matches so far, since I've been concentrating on Hyrulean Adventure, and I've only played with two players. And while Hyrulean Adventure is still a ton of fun with one or two players, Shadow Battle really needs at least three players to be all that fun, I think. Just going one-on-one with my brother wasn't all that great, but I think if you were to get three or four people in there, it could get a lot more chaotic and fun. I'm really looking forward to getting four people together to try out Shadow Battle again, so we'll see what that's like when it happens.[/color]
  2. [color=indigo]Yes, in the games. Pokémon's origins are in the games, and the games are still the core of the franchise. If you're not going to trust them, you might as well be making stuff up completely on your own. The anime is just a spin-off from the games, in which the writers do, in fact, simply make stuff up that has absolutely no relation to the games. So yes, I suppose it could be possible in terms of the anime, since almost anything would be possible there, but in terms of the games, it would never happen. And besides, if a Lugia [i]were[/i] able to breed, it would makes sense that it would produce another Lugia; you don't get completely new species of Pokémon from breeding. Only pre-evolutions sometimes, and Latios and Latias don't evolve at all.[/color]
  3. [color=indigo]The 16:9 screen looks nice, but it also looks like it's kind of cramping the D-pad and buttons. Personally, I like a little space in between the edge of the screen and the buttons so I don't accidentally cover up part of the screen with my thumbs. If the actual viewing area doesn't extend quite to the edge of the screen cover, like on the GB/GBA, it would probably be okay, though. And also . . . the thing looks horribly uncomfortable. It looks like the original GBA, only thinner, less shaped to fit your hands (i.e. flatter) -- though that may just be because I can't see the back too well -- and the R and L buttons are just as close to the D-pad/buttons as on the GBA, if not closer. If, by some fluke I manage to be able to get one of these, I forsee many hand aches in my future. Hopefully, though, it'll be like the GBA SP and only [i]look[/i] horribly uncomfortable. And by the way, I'd like to remind people that this is [i]not[/i] a Nintendo DS bashing thread. Before you create and new thread, you should always use the search tool to check if there's already a thread about the game you want to talk about. Oh, and if you're wondering why there are two desktops in the attached image, it's because I'm using two monitors. So, I can have different stuff on each, including different wallpaper. On the left is my main display, featuring a wallpaper made by myself, and on the right is my secondary desktop, featuring a wallpaper made by James, which I use mainly for Winamp and instant messaging stuff. And the actual wallpapers are much, much higher quality than in the screen shot. 50% jpg compression does bad things to image quality, but it would've been huge otherwise.[/color]

Really, though, I doubt I'm even going to have a real graduation ceremony. More than likely, I'll just end up taking the CHSPE ([u]C[/u]alifornia [u]H[/u]igh [u]S[/u]chool [u]P[/u]roficieny [u]E[/u]xamination) instead of officially completing high school, since passing it is legally equivalent to graduating. Not to mention that I'm homeschooled, so if there were to be a graduation ceremony, it would most likely be completely optional. Also, I've already started taking a few classes out at a community college through concurrent enrolement (well, one last semester, and I'm planning on taking two more out there during fall semester), so I'm already getting somewhat used to "college life." Meaning that the official transition between high school and college probably won't change much, aside from the amount of fees I'll have to pay. Whoo.[/color]
  8. [color=indigo]Well, the thing about saying that morality is relative is that it runs into the same problem as saying it isn't. That is, how can you really tell? Yes, morals vary widely throughout different countries and cultures, but why does that mean there can be no set standard of right and wrong? Different people may believe a lot of different things, but that doesn't change the fact that, if only one set of morals is truly correct, every other belief is wrong. But there really isn't any way to prove the argument either way, so there may be an absolute standard, and there may not. So you really can't say for sure whether or not morals are relative. Peoples' personal moral standards are obviously relative to what they believe is right and wrong, but that doesn't mean there can't be one set standard by which everything should be judged. People could just be wrong. There's just no way to prove that they are, or that they aren't.[/color]
  9. [color=indigo]Ah, the joys of owning a GBA SP. . . . Batteries aren't an issue when you've got one, as long as you remember to keep the thing charged, heh. ^_^ Oh, and about the radar on the GBA screen, that's actually more helpful the more people you have playing. If you've got four people playing, one person will get a screen with full info on whatever enemy he/she is currently attacking, which is [i]very[/i] handy. You get the enemy's current/total HP, what they're weak to, what they'll drop when they die, as well as just general info about their attacks and whatnot. I absolutely loved having that when I got to play with three other friends one time. And not being able to pause to do stuff in your menus is meant to incourage teamwork, heh. If you're in the middle of a fight and someone needs to equip something, the other player(s) will have to cover them while they do it. Personally, I think it's kind of cool. It makes you actually prepare before going into fights, and it makes you have to be quick with equiping and whatnot. You can't just pause in the middle of a huge fight and take as much time as you want. Actually, when I think about it, it's kind of like the ATB battle system found in most other FF games, only adapted for multiplayer and expanded to fit the action RPG style of FFCC.[/color]

Each Kokiri stole a quick glance at each other during the silence, but both were reluctant to resume eye contact, neither sure of what to say. Leif looked up to the sky; it was as if the trees around the outside of the stone walls formed a frame in the forest, through which the sky was plainly visible. In the depths of the Lost Woods, not many places like that existed. This truly was a beautiful place, Leif thought as his gaze wandered about the sacred meadow. But it had been tainted in his mind; he doubted he would ever be able to come to the place without reliving the horror of his first visit. His eyes fell upon the great doorway looming above the ground at the back of the courtyard, a single dead tree overhanging the small ledge in front of it. It looked as if there had once been stairs leading all the way to the ground, but the ravages of time had crumbled them away. Just then, a chill breeze made him shiver, and he pulled his cloak a little tighter about himself. Shadows grew darker, and his thoughts returned to the present as he heard Saria stand up from the tree stump. [color=yellowgreen]"What's happening?"[/color] she asked with a tinge of concern in her voice. [color=darkgreen]"I don't know,"[/color] Leif said as he looked back to the sky. The overcast sky was getting darker, and what few patches of blue that had shone through before were now completely gone. And it was colder. [color=darkgreen]"A storm may be brewing. We should get back to the village."[/color] Saria nodded and the two started for the steps leading back down to the maze, and the meadow's exit, their fairies hovering above. Then, before he ever saw or even heard it, Leif felt it. He felt it through his boots, rumbling up from the ground, a deep vibration growing steadily more intense. Both Kokiri stood stock still, until the rumbling could be heard. [color=royalblue]"This isn't good . . ."[/color] Kailyn trailed off, putting voice to what each was thinking. [color=darkgreen]"Let's go! Now!"[/color] Leif all but yelled, taking Saria's hand and dashing towards the steps. If monsters came now, they would be trapped in the courtyard with nowhere to go. As Leif's foot hit the top step, a roar echoed up through the corridor; Moblins were swarming into the meadow. . . . It was too late. They were trapped. Stopping at the top of the stairs, Leif released Saria's hand and drew his sword and Hookshot. Another roar echoed up to them from the maze below. [color=darkgreen]"Saria, get back! Don't let them see you!"[/color] He motioned for her to move to the side, so she wouldn't be visible from the corridor, and she quickly complied. As soon as he turned back to to the steps, a Moblin appeared at the bottom of them, spear in hand, and charged. Quenching his panic, Leif forced himself to aim carefully, sighting his Hookshot at a beam of the wooden ladder across from the stairs, which gave access to the top of the maze walls. He squeezed the trigger, the hook shot out on its chain . . . and it caught! The Moblin was suprised that its intended target was now flying straight through the air at it, but only for a split second. Sailing by over the Moblin's shoulder, Leif swung his sword as hard as he could, cleaving the Moblin's head cleanly off, both body and head falling to the ground to disintegrate into white mist. Catching himself on the ladder, he barely managed to hold on as he was confronted with yet another Moblin, rounding the corner with its spear raised. Leif jumped backwards off the ladder as the Moblin's spear came down in a deadly arc just in front of the ladder, and before it could attack again, he killed it with a quick shot to the head from his Hookshot. Then, what he feared became reality, and one of the huge, club wielding Moblins appeared from the corner, letting out a great bellow of rage. Leif ran as it raised its club high, dashing back up the stairs before the club came crashing down where he had just been standing. [color=darkgreen]"Saria!"[/color] Leif called up the stairs as he sheathed his sword as he ran. Saria appeared at the top of the steps, and her eyes widened. The great Moblin had moved to the bottom of the stairs and had its club raised into the air, Leif only a few steps in front of it. She froze in terror, and time seemed to slow as the huge club fell to the earth, sending a shockwave up the steps to chase after Leif. He ran as fast as he could, but the shockwave was gaining on him, and still her legs were frozen to the spot as she could do nothing but watch. Then it all became a sudden blur as Leif reached the top of the stairs, his right arm looping around her waist and his left raised with Hookshot in hand. He fired, sending the hook to thud into the large tree branch overhanging the ledge in front of the doorway. A blast of air shook them as they were lifted just barely clear of the shockwave rending the earth beneath them, and then they were on the ledge, safe. Releasing her, Leif let out the breath he had been holding. [color=darkgreen]"Are you . . . are you okay?"[/color] he panted, trying to regain his breath. [color=yellowgreen]"Y-yes. I'm alright,"[/color] Saria said, shaken by the sudden attack. [color=royalblue]"Well, don't just stand there!"[/color] Kailyn shouted at them from above. [color=royalblue]"Into the temple!"[/color] Without another word, Leif took Saria's hand and they ran through the doorway in front of them, the roars of the Moblins driving them forward.

  12. [color=indigo]Yeah, I know about those, but the problem is that when you're using a GCN-GBA cable with an SP, the cable plug covers the EXT.2 port. So nothing else can be plugged in while it's linked to a GCN.[/color]
  13. [color=indigo]The only thing I don't like about the GBA SP is that you have to either buy specially made headphones for the thing, or get an adapter in order to use regular headphones. Oh, and maybe the fact that you can't charge the battery while using a GCN-GBA cable, but that's a pretty minor inconvenience. Other than those two minor annoyances, however, I think the SP stands above the original GBA in every way. I bought my SP the day they were released, and its screen has still yet to recieve a single scratch, thanks to the folding design. The face buttons are also much more responsive -- I like that "clicky" feeling they have -- and there's more action on the R and L buttons, making it easier to hold them down for extended periods of time without accidentally letting them up at all. (You have no idea how many times I've fired off an item in Mario Kart: Super Circuit without meaning to because of the original GBA's R and L buttons). Like Semjaza, I find the SP a lot more comfortable to hold (mainly because of the changed positioning of the R and L buttons). And finally, the built-in frontlight is better than any light that I've seen for the original GBA. There's absolutely no glare, and it's bright enough that everything is perfectly clear even when playing in complete darkness, [i]and[/i] it doesn't lower the battery life below the 15 hours that the original GBA gets. Oh, and yes, the SP's screen is the same size as the original GBA's.[/color]

I must have only been about five or six years old at the time, so I couldn't aim too well, but it was still fun. I remember as the ducks started moving faster and faster, I'd hold the Zapper closer and closer to the screen, heh. And I also remember trying in vain to shoot that stupid, laughing dog. I swear, that thing is possesed or something.[/color]

The style is somewhat similar, but besides Crono (and maybe Ayla), it would be hard to put a Chrono Trigger character next to a DBZ character and know they were designed by the same person without previous knowledge. Personally, I really like Crono's design, even if I'm not especially fond of the DBZ characters' designs. That big, red, spiky hair totally beats out Cloud's blonde spikes, heh.[/color]

I mean, if you actually look at the official art from the game, not too many of the characters closely resemble characters from DBZ. And when you're actually playing the game, who the heck can tell from the sprites? In this 3D version, sure, but I still don't think it's that big a deal. Oh, and about Magus, they're just sticking to the original game's design. In the game's opening we see him as a dark knight, commanding the nation of Baron's fleet of airships, the Red Wings. At first he seems almost like a "bad guy," as he steals a crystal from the people of Mysidia, but then we see he's not too happy about it. He questions the King of Baron's motives for stealing crystals from innocent people, and ends up being relieved of command of the Red Wings and, unwittingly, is sent off to destroy a village of callers (aka summoners). Throughout the game you discover more and more about who Cecil really is, at the same time as he's finding out for himself. All the while he tries his best to do what's right, through the corruption and manipulation happening all around him in the world. He stays determined even as his best friend betrays and almost kills him, and eventually turns from the ways of the dark knight and becomes a paladin. You really have to admire the strength of will that Cecil has; there are times in the game where, if I were Cecil, I would be sorely tempted to just give up. No matter what happens, he presses on, determined to find out the truth behind the evil around him and then put a stop to it. He doesn't always succeed, and he actually gets his butt kicked a few times (and that's another thing -- he's not one of those all-powerful characters), but he keeps going. And I like his attitude, also. He doesn't have an "I don't give a crap" attitude, he isn't a smartass, and he doesn't mope about. He's not overly serious, but he also doesn't screw around. He cares about the people around him, and he fights to protect them -- he feels genuinely guilty about what he did to the Mysidians and the village of Mist, and does whatever he can to make up for his mistakes, even going as far as turning against his own country to protect Rydia, a survivor from Mist. Overall, Cecil has a lot of good qualities about him that I like, and his personality isn't too far off from my own, so I find that I can relate to him a lot more than most other characters in the Final Fantasy series. All of this combines to make him my favorite character in the series.[/color]

[color=indigo]Well, sometimes I get the feeling I'm not being quite as polite as I could be, but it can be annoying when you've given multiple warnings in multiple threads about the very same thing and almost everyone seems to just ignore you. (Favorite threads, anyone?) Still, though, I try and make sure I'm not sounding pissed off or snapping at people. . . . But that can be hard to do when you're trying to make people pay attention to the rules. Punctuation only goes so far in showing how any given post should be read; you don't get things like tone of voice when you're typing out your messge. (Unless you want to use a lot of italics, but that just gets annoying). So if people happen to read a post in a different way than what was intended, yes, it could be taken as snapping at whoever is being warned, but from what I've seen, that's very rarely intentional.[/color]
  19. [color=indigo]Well, I'll download and play it whenever it's released, but if it's not going to be the full game I'm not too excited. Sure, seeing [spoiler]Crono's death scene[/spoiler] in 3D would be cool (and they [i]better[/i] do that scene), but I think I'd just as soon get FF Chronicles and play the CT port on there with the anime cutscenes. And yes, the character models are a bit funky looking, but overall not too bad. The environments look pretty good at least, and the sample music they have up is good. I'm also hoping for a remixed To Far Away Times track -- best song in the game.[/color]

First off, I've deleted all of the posts simply listing peoples' favorite FF characters/games. Lists are exactly what we [i]don't[/i] want to see in favorite threads, because there's absolutely no discussion value in them. If you want to post in a favorite thread (and not have your post deleted), you need to go a little in depth on what you like about that particular character, or whatever it is being asked about. Saying "My favorite character is Cloud from FFVII" isn't going to cut it. Second, this is a thread about favorite Final Fantasy [i]characters,[/i] not games. The author of the thread specifically asked about peoples' favorite characters, so that's what people should stick to talking about. I think there's already another thread asking about favorite games, though maybe not FF games specifically. And finally, I've edited the title of the thread to make the topic a little more apparent.[/color]
  21. [color=indigo]Well, the thing is, a game like Four Swords Adventures just couldn't be done without the GBAs for multiplayer. And I mean it's [i]really[/i] required, not just "It'd take longer to go through menus one at a time," like in FFCC. There's just no other way to do what FSA does, without each person having their own screen. I guess they could've done made it so a quarter of the TV screen splits to show the Link that's left the main area, but I think that would get [i]really[/i] annoying for anyone else playing on the TV screen. And about the controls, there isn't that much you need for a 2D Zelda. Really, they made A Link to the Past and the original Four Swords on the GBA -- why can't they do another 2D Zelda using it? Unless you wanted multiple secondary items -- something you don't get in Four Swords anyway -- there's no need for any more buttons than the GBA has. For the issue of the GBA/SP being uncomfortable, well, that really depends on the person. Myself, I find the SP just as comfortable as, say, a SNES controller. Maybe not as comfortable as a GCN pad, but it's not bad. I've played FFTA on my GBA SP for twelve hours straight without any discomfort.[/color]

As he ran, the music got progressively louder, until he didn't have any trouble hearing it over the sound of his footsteps. Then Kailyn stopped abruptly, and he almost tripped over himself while trying to stop. Panting, Leif finally looked around at his surroundings, and his eyes widened in shock. [color=darkgreen]"Kailyn. . . ."[/color] [color=royalblue]"I know,"[/color] she replied, equally astonished. Unconsciously, Leif's hand crept up to the scattered scars on his face, his fingers tracing the lines of each one. This was the Sacred Forest Meadow; he had received and later avenged those scars on the very spot he was now standing, years ago. He hadn't ever thought he would return to this place, but seemingly by chance, here he was. Almost eerily, the ocarina song continued, carrying on the breeze from over the walls of the maze before him. Stepping forward cautiously after a moment, Leif unsheathed his sword and entered the maze, Kailyn following just above and behind. Looking around each corner, as if expecting another Wolfos to attack at any moment, Leif made his way along the same route he had found through the maze upon his last visit. He knew his way perfectly; the path he had taken was etched permanently into his mind along with all the other memories of the Sacred Forest Meadow. [color=darkgreen]"It's all the same,"[/color] Leif murmured as he reached the foot of the long staircase leading up to the courtyard where he had found his Hookshot. [color=darkgreen]"Time hasn't touched this place."[/color] The music was crystal clear now; whoever was playing had to be in the courtyard ahead. Creeping through the long hallway of steps as quietly as he could, Leif stopped and stood in the archway, staring out into the stone walled clearing. . . . He almost dropped his sword when he saw the meadow's occupant: There, sitting on a tree stump, playing an ocarina, it was the girl from the mess hall. Leif froze, not knowing what to do. Then, with no other sound besides the pounding of his heart in his chest, he finally stopped and really listened to the song. It was a merry tune, only it was being played slowly . . . mournfully. Tears were coursing down the girl's face as she played, squeezing out from behind tightly shut eyelids. Finally she ended the song with a long, piercing note, as if sounding a final bugle of passing. Lowering the ocarina from her lips, the girl opened her eyes, and they instantly fixed on Leif. Both sets of eyes went wide, and neither Kokiri moved. Finally Leif realized he still had his sword in his hand, and quickly sheathed it before taking a slow step into the courtyard. [color=yellowgreen]"You're the one from the cafeteria,"[/color] the girl said, wiping away her tears. Leif opened his mouth to speak, but no words came out. Blinking, he finally managed, [color=darkgreen]"You noticed me watching you?"[/color] The girl nodded. [color=darkgreen]"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to intrude. I heard the music while walking through the forest, and. . . ."[/color] He trailed off, not knowing what to say. The girl stood up from the tree stump, putting away the ocarina. It sucks that I'm having to take it over again before being able to take intermediate algebra out there, but hey, it's extremely easy since I've already done pretty much everything in the class before.
