Metallica. Mainly because they are one of those favourite bands I tend to have that never, ever, fade out of my interest. You know what I'm talkin' 'bout? I never get bored of them. I never get sick of them. And I love every, single song they've released. I've loved Metallica ever since I can remember, and they're one of my all-time favourites, that go above everything else. Their music is awesome. So that's my choice.. Metallica.

I haven't had any.. weird dreams as of lately, as in really out-of-the-ordinary dreams. Though have you heard of that dream everyone is supposed to have, the one where you're falling? Apparently its a dream that everyone is supposed to dream, or something. It's always been a dream that re-occurs for me. Im falling through a city, off a huge sky-scraper I'd say. Because all I can see are the little lights you see from all the windows in huge buildings in cities; they're all flying past me... well, I suppose they're not going that fast, quite slow now that I think about it. I always wake up before I hit the ground. Always. Apparently, everyone wakes up before they hit the ground. It's a normal thing. No-one has dreams where they die themselves. Atleast, you're not supposed to... Usually, when you wake from it, you wake up with a jerk, in other words, you sit up in bed and find your heart racing. I always wake up to a racing heart. "Like you've just had a nightmare" (even though that doesn't happen to me when I have a nightmare). If, you dont wake up before you hit the ground, you die. In your sleep. For real. Now, this dream, even though I'm used to dreaming it every now and then, I've been having it alot more frequent then usual. And every time it always seems I'm getting closer and closer to hitting the ground. All the time. I don't see the ground, of course. But I just.. I dunno, feel it. Every dream like this that I have, I always get closer to hitting the ground than the last dream I had like it. Though I wake up before I actually do hit the ground, it's still alot closer than I'd like it to be. ;) Freaky. Really startin' to freak me out.

Killswitch Engage. ... to me, their music is more heavy. Their music seems alot more.. powerful.. more strong, you know? Their melodic-style in their music is awesome. You know, not too technical or over-the-top melodic, but just enough for me to really like.
No problem, Fall! However, all the bands listed there do tend to have the Death vocals you don't like so much... oh well, maybe hearing them in their native environment will give you a different perspective! I wouldn't call Throwdown "death vocals", that's what's called "brocore" or "toughguy" vocals. Death vocals are way better!
Yeah, I just noticed the difference in Throwdown compared to what I was talking about... their vocals are more strained out, or more clearer... hmm. If you get what I mean. I was listening to some Trivium and then wacked on some Throwdown and realised their vocals are a bit different to what I meant. Still, if they had the stuff like As I Lay Dying or Trivium, I'd probably listen to them alot more than what I do now.

Yes it has to come from some genre; Nu-Metal comes from alternative rock, mostly the grunge scene out of Seattle in the early Nineties I mean it's pretty obvious. Nu-Metal seriously is not related to metal enough to say that it has any major metal influences in it. It's like Slipknot have influences from Black Sabbath... Umm someone show me a song and I'll beleive them. I mean seriously come on now, who are they trying to kid?
I can see you don't like NuMetal.
Nile (Technical Death Metal) Ektomorf (South-American Groove Metal (think Sepultura or Soulfly)) Kataklysm (Death Metal - probably the most melodic on this list, but badass) Naglfar (Black Metal) Gizmachi (Nu-Metal - you prolly already listen to them, but if you don't you'd prolly LOVE them!) Bloodbath (Death Metal (only listen to the new album "Nightmares Made Flesh") Throwdown (Metalcore (many people say they're a hardcore band, but there's too many metal elements in their music to be simply hardcore)
Out of that list, I've heard of Ektomorf, Gizmachi, and Throwdown. I love Ektomorf, I reckon they're awesome. Gizmachi, they're alright, though you're wrong about me lovin' 'em. I don't tend to relate to their music too well. Throwdown, I've got a fair-bit of their music, and all of it has that "low-pitched yelling" or whatever all through it; the stuff that I usually hear in all the Death Metal I listen to. I don't really like that too much, but on the other hand, music with a combination of that "low-pitched yelling" and the melodic vocals or choruses, that shіt is awesome. A perfect example of this... The Decieved by Trivium, Confined by As I Lay Dying, and Prey by The Agony Scene. I'll check out Bloodbath, I've heard nothing but good words about them. As for Naglfar, Kataklysum, and Nile, I'll be sure to check them out too. Thanks for the list. :smoke:

What Punk REALLY means for all you people who dont REALLY know.
Fall replied to Hells Angel's topic in General Discussion
I don't get it. All I can see, is that you hold your "label" or stereotype of being a "punk" in high regard, but you hate the actual fact that you're being labeled. Which in the end, makes no sense. ;) This statement you're trying to pass off is two-sided. Those two sides are completely opposite from one-another, they totally conflict with each-other. Yes. ...And I agree with only one (obviously) of those two sides. :smoke: On a side-note, I think it's more how you look that what you say, that adds to the whole stereotype thing. People might say what they want or whatever about a "punk", but the only reason they say it is because of the way a "punk" looks in the first place. Same as with the "preppies" and the "goths" and the "nerds" and every other "category" I'm too lazy to list. -Just my bit of information, useless as it may seem. -
Me and one of my mates, we'll call him J, once found an old clock, got 2 deodorant cans and taped them on either side of the clock, and stuck wires out of it; it looked like a bomb. Then we caught some dude, dunno who he was. All I know is that he thought he was real mad and acted like he was all that and I absolutely hated him for it. We taped his hands and feet up and taped the fake bomb to him. Everyone thought it was a real bomb, and I was holding my mobile-phone upside-down so everyone thought it was a remote-control. Everyone was running around screaming, the teacher's didn't know what to do. J was swearing and yelling at the teachers. The school called the police and the bomb-squad, and some other crew... rescue-squad or something. The dude that was taped up was bawling his eyes out and calling out "I don't wanna die...". He left the school that same day. I got expelled, and J was suspended for 4 weeks, and put on a 3 month probation period. That's the only thing that stands out for me. I've been involved in other incidents on the same level of "immatureness" and bullying, but that's one thing that stands out. I feel pretty bad about it now, mainly because me and J were laughing so damn hard when it was happening.

Honestly, I class NuMetal as a sub-genre of Metal. As much as I can't stand sub-genres; well, actually, the amount of sub-genres, I do. I see NuMetal as being related to Metal alot more closer than what you are trying to tell me. You know very well that I hate "sub-genres" and how many there are, so in saying ""Nu-Metal" is a sub-genre of metal", it really doesn't turn over for me, so it obviously slipped through my mind without me even noticing I was typing it. I'd say it was more something I said to get on your nerves. ;)
Like Amorphous said, Nu-Metal came from grunge and alt-rock with a light (or sometimes not so light *cough Limp Bizkit cough hurl*) sprinkling of hip-hop.
I can see that there's many different genre's in NuMetal alone. But you listen to some of the NuMetal bands out there. Grunge and Alternate-Rock can't have alone made some of the NuMetal bands around as heavy as they are. For example, there is no Alternate-Rock in Spineshank. None at all. And there is definately no Alternate-Rock in early Slipknot, for sure. They did not start off from a combination of Grunge and Alternate-Rock. So how's that work? I can understand how there are some NuMetal bands that sound like they're more Alternate-Rock, than anything else. But surely, you can see that not all NuMetal came from Alternate-Rock, or sometimes has no Alternate-Rock in it at all. Grunge, that's in nearly every-damn-thing these days.
And as for your comment about Bodom's song structure, I disagree kindly but very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very firmly. Their structure is effing brilliant[/i'], solos and melody completely aside.
Obviously they have "structure", but in my view, it doesn't... jump out at me. I can't see it. Honestly... and if I was going to, I'd have to strain my ears. All music needs structure, otherwise it wouldn't be music. It's the way people relate to it that makes them like the music that they do. Our tastes in this kind of music is obviously very different, therefore our tastes in the actual music is conflicting.
What do you think I mean by structure? We could just be on totally different pages here...
I just don't see the structure that you do.
Okay, but just because it's related (and BARELY) still doesn't make it metal. Just like Black Sabbath doesn't play blues, but it's deeply influenced by it.
I never said it was metal. I said it's influenced by metal, related to metal, heavy, etc. I didn't say it was metal.
-
But anyway, nu-metal is just fine, but the reason it isn't metal is that it has no metal structure, ethos perse. Fall, if you started adding some of the metal we're talking about to your collection as well, you might start to notice a difference. Like I said, I love Korn and Slipknot and stuff, so none of this is against them. Just pick up a Children of Bodom album, or earlier In Flames stuff, maybe some Opeth. You'll probably see what we're talking about. Granted, Nu-Metal is related in one way or another, but barely.
I love In Flames, I own their albums The Jester Race, Whoracle, Colony, Clayman, Reroute To Remain, and Soundtrack To Your Escape. Pain, Trivium, Dry Kill Logic, Machine Head, Unearth. They're all awesome bands. Children of Bodom, I don't mind them, their music is just too melodic for me. Those way technical guitar solos and what-not, that doesn't really appeal to me. Everytime I Die is an awesome song by them, though. If you're talking about the way the music sounds, or is built, I can see where you're coming from, and it's plain to see that the differences we have on this kind of music clearly relates to what it sounds like. Honestly, I cannot stand those over-the-top melodic technical speedy guitar riffs and solos. This is most likely why I tend to have my liking to heavy music in the more "rough" or "stuctureless" "NuMetal" scene, as you may call it. I can see structure in the music I like. I can't see any structure in Children of Bodom's music, for example (sorry.. :blackeye: ). I can see there's metal talent, alot of it at that, but I can't relate to it in any way. Without seeing any good structure, you can't see any good music. This goes back to where I said...
Structure depends on the way you like music. The kind of music you like.
;)
Granted, Nu-Metal is related in one way or another, but barely.[/u']
Barely as it may be, it's still related. Some can see it, some can't, it's what you like in your music.

Secondly and most importantly any band with the genre "Nu-Metal" tagged to them is not metal. In fact it's just the band trying to look "Hardcore" to their fans and to sell more cds in the process (not that there is anything wrong with selling cds it's just that these bands really have no talent for music in the first place and it's amazing that they do.)[/b']
That is the most bullshіt statement I have ever heard. "NuMetal" has to have come from some genre, it can't have just started out of nothing. I mean, it can have started the whole "trend" by itself, but it has to be related to some kind of music. As with every genre. It would have to have started from some kind of music. "NuMetal"'s music is related to Metal. As I've stated a thousand times before. I'm not about to get into a whole new arguement over the same thing, so basically, you're wrong. Read the debate between me and Jake. There's a valid arguement for both sides, whether you think "NuMetal" is Metal or not, it's up to you. It may not be "heavy metal", but it's damn-well related to it. As I've said before, also, there are many types of metal, this aligns well with all the sub-genres out there (much to my dislike). "NuMetal" is one. Oh no...
The reason they are not metal is simply because every song they make has no metal structure. Listen to them (examples are Korn, System of a Down and Slipknot) and listen to a metal band you'll notice a huge difference. Try not to become confused because the "Nu-Metal" band has screaming and rough vocals in their music; vocals don't make the music. There is another genre called "Grindcore" which is an offshoot of punk that contains rough vocals and people confuse it for metal all the time.
Please, please, don't get me started again. Structure depends on the way you like music. The kind of music you like. If you like heavy stuff and breakdowns, you're not going to like Rap and Hip-Hop. You won't see any stucture in that music.
I still cannot listen to Pop or Rap.
...perfect example. ---- Just for the record, I can see perfect structure in KoRn's music. Their earlier stuff is a bit more rough, but their most recent stuff, there should be no problem in seeing the "metal stucture" of their music. Same as Slipknot. Their earlier stuff is alot more rough than their newer stuff, and the "metal structure" they put into their music is alot more easier to pick up in their recent music.

I always look back behind me or over my shoulder, whenever it's dark or suddenly goes quiet. I'm living out-of-town now, though I grew up in west (basically, the bad part of town). There was nearly always something that'd happen every night of the week to do with shooting someone or something. It's weird, because usually in a neighbourhood like that, you'd expect crime to be very high ranging from one thing to another, e.g. robbery, break and enter, assault, etc. But where I used to live, crime was mainly gun-related, of course, injuries and sometimes murder was also the case. There was really nothing else at all in my old neighbourhood. No robbery, no break and enter, no assault. Very weird. I remember walking to the corner-shop with dad one afternoon, it was sunset, and we heard what sounded like a gunshot, very close. I remember saying to dad that I'd never heard anything so loud before. I was so scared, I wouldn't leave the house for a week. I was about 3. That's stuck in my head forever. That has got to have something to do with why I'm very cautious of what's behind me, what or who's following me, for sure.

Flame-war and a half, here. I never once said that KoRn was metal. Then why were you getting all up in arms for me saying that Korn/Nu-Met aren't metal? And I actually SAID that Nu-Metal had metal influences! I know that! Nu-metal, I will say again, is not metal music. Sure, metal influenced the sound of nu-met, at times at a great degree. But look at it this way: rock n' roll music was very strongly influenced by the blues - but does that make rock n' roll a subgenre of the blues? No. While they're similar in many ways, they're not the same thing. I can't see anyone saying that Led Zeppelin and John Coltraine (sp?) are the same thing. Led Zeppelin was deeply rooted in blues music, but they're not a blues band. Same thing goes for metal: for example, Korn is influenced[/i'] by metal, but this does not make them a metal band.
...when clearly, I dare say, they're not, if they're "influenced" by metal. That's a relation in itself. Even if you say so yourself. You're the one, trying to change your viewpoint. Worrying about the heafty consumption of natural resources
Fall replied to poo62.2's topic in General Discussion
Earth will eventually eat itself away. And if it doesn't, we will. No doubt about it. It can been seen by everyone and everything. There's no way we can stop the world from consuming everything to a sustainable level. It's physically impossible. Technology is the only obvious answer. Soon we're going to have cars that fly and man-made reality. I'd be surprised if we don't eventually come up with some sort of technology that defeats the purpose of natural resources even existing. We'll be able to create metals and liquids out of nothing. Earth and all life on Earth will eventually run on technology, if it's safe to say it doesn't already. -
I think Metallica should be included in a "requirement" collection. ReLoad Really shows what Metallica are capable of. Metallica ("The Black Album") A showcase of Metallica, at their peak. On the same level as ReLoad, really shows what they're capable of. I don't think I'd be the same person if I had never heard of Metallica, and especially these albums. There are some songs on both these albums that I can really relate to. My Friend Of Misery, The Unforgiven, Nothing Else Matters and Enter Sandman on Metallica ("The Black Album"), and The Memory Remains (best song ever created in the histroy of everything) and The Unforgiven II on ReLoad, are songs that play a serious role in who I am. These songs are played atleast twice a day, in my everyday life. The Memory Remains, atleast 4 times. I couldn't stand not hearing Metallica for a whole day, I'd go mentally insane. :smoke:
My favorite type of music? Perhaps techno (like Daft Punk?), electronica, a dash of rap here and there, and rock. I seem to like a bit of heaviness to songs, but not even close to what metal has -- more like AT THE HEAVIEST Linkin Park. Haha. Lame, right? And jazz roxors.
Try listening to Celldweller, or even Collide... Celldweller combines the electronic stuff with the heavy stuff.. Collide are softer than Celldweller, though still have the electronic sound and the heavy sound in their music. ...or maybe even Godhead? There's also a band called SEXYDEATH, they're awesome with the electronica sound of music, though they also have the "heaviness" in there. Zeromancer also do an awesome job of mixing "heaviness" with an electric sound (electronica wise) in their music. I actually own 2 CDs by them. Maybe you'll like these bands. :smoke: I could list some more bands that are influenced by techno and trance, but they're alot heavier than Linkin Park.

I currently play Rugby League, have been for as long as I can remember. I used to play Cricket, but I dropped out, I have no idea why, I wish I was still playing. I have a very passionate interest in the car racing sport, V8 Supercars, I'd love to be in that. I've watched every race I can on tv, and any chance I get to go and see one of the races for real, I take it. I'd love to have a career as a race-car driver in the V8 Supercars, even just be in it, I'd love it. It's to do with racing and cars. Why wouldn't I?

That's exactly the sad thing about it - there's so much great metal out there that no one ever gets exposed to because they're told that (IMO) crap like Marilyn Manson or the Murderdolls are metal. They think that's what metal is and never bother to take a second listen tol metal because people think that's what it is.
Holy, fu_king sh!t. No-one is going to think Cannibal Corpse is RnB. You're missing the whole damn point. What I'm trying to say, simple and plain, is you can't change what people think. No matter how much you defend metal, how much you say what is and isn't metal; it's always going to be what people think. Just like you.
If I said that Korn was J-Pop, you wouldn't be too happy.
I honestly wouldn't give a sh!t. If you want to think KoRn is J-Pop, go ahead. I'd argue with you, yeah, but I know for real you're not going to change your mind. Unless you're a follower who tries to be like everyone else.
You obviously don't care about metal[/u']
That's a judgement, buddy. And here you are saying I can't say what is metal and what isn't. But either way, I don't give a sh!t, again. You can think that I don't care about metal... "think"... THINK...
Just like the fact - FACT - that NuMet isn't metal. It's not a matter of opinion at all. It's a fact. It's not my opinion[/i'] that NuMet isn't metal, it's just a simple fact. I just wish it didn't have the word "metal" in the title... that really confuses people.
Fact all you like, it's your opinion. It aint a fact. "NuMetal" CAME from metal. Where else would've it originated from? Not fu_king rap or pop. That's for sure. The music orginated from metal. Even some rock. Listen to the music of every single "NuMetal" band. It's HEAVY. Maybe not as heavy as "true metal", but I don't care, it's still heavy. None of that tapping and whistling and "bopp"in' going on. But even so, that's my opinion, again. I think, or believe is a better word, that metal sparked "NuMetal". KoRn is a different story, Hip-Hop may be a factor in their music. May be in alot of "NuMetal" bands. Hip-Hop, Rap, whatever, but there is no way possible, the music of "NuMetal" came from anything else other than Metal. It's related to metal, because of that. Don't say it isn't, because it is. Just because "NuMetal" might sound a bit different, mightn't have the same "meaning" or some bullsh!t as metal, it's still related to metal. My opinion. What I think. What I "believe". What I like to think my music as. Different or wrong as I may be, you're not going to change it. I've been "believing" this for as long as I can remember, and not because some other bullsh!t-artist told me KoRn was heavy-metal. Because I think so myself. There's not one person in my family that likes this kind of music, and only 2 of my "everyday" mates are really into it. And they haven't played one single role in what I think or believe about this kind of music. I don't like people saying something is a fact, when it's clearly not. As much information you've got, as much research you've done, it doesn't give you the right to say "NuMetal" isn't metal. Because it is clearly related to metal. The "roots" of "NuMetal", are in metal. Sure is. Sure, "NuMetal" is "lighter", it's "less-heavy", whatever you say, but it's still related to metal. It came from metal, it's related to metal. Don't matter if some band wants to base their music on Hip-Hop, that means sh!t in my opinion. Opinion. Again, that's my opinion. Not once have I said otherwise. Nothing will change this, it's what I believe, it's what's my view. It has been for as long as I can remember, and probably always will be.

I don't. Simple. I don't try and manage my time at all. I take everything as it comes. I'm really a "for the moment" person, as I usually change my mind at the last minute. I find that not trying to manage my time, and just letting it all "go with the flow"... :nope: ..makes my day alot easier and less stressful.

As much as I don't like bullying and seeing someone being stood-over just because they're smaller or somethin', I have to admit that I've done a good share of bullying. In Year 9 and 10, I used to get a bit carried away with my mates. I wasn't a "chonic bully" or whatever, I didn't do it intentionally, as in I didn't go to school thinking "I'm gonna pick on this kid today". Me and my mates were a pretty wild group, and sometimes they'd make fun of someone, or others. And yeah, I'd always join in. I've never actually pushed someone around or shoved them or knocked them to the ground, robbed them or stole something from them. That's not bullying if you ask me, that's being a low-life bastard who's in need of serious help. Now that I look back, those people I'd made fun of are fine, some are even better off than what they were. And then there's the people who are the same, still being made fun of. I feel sorry for them, but I've never actually tried to help them, or stick up for them. I don't really like the fact that bullying is a real problem, but it is. And nothing is going to stop it, as far as I reckon. I don't like alot of things, but they still happen. And they're always gonna happen.

I can't even remember what I said in my first break-up.. It was more like a "look"... I think I gave her a disgusted look, and that was it. Another time, "I don't reckon we should be together no more". Exactly that. Also, after my girlfriend of 8 months decides to tell me she's cheating on me and I find out she's been doing drugs behind my back, and I realise she's wasting my time, I reply; "Good. Go **** yourself, 'cos we're through", all in the space of 'bout 2 seconds. I was so happy. Simple, easy, I wasn't even wasting my breath on her. :wigout: They're the best let-down lines, quick and easy. ;)

Obviously, we don't.
I've said it once, I'll say it again. Metal is what people think is metal, they aren't going to class metal as what you and I class metal. If they think Linkin Park is metal, then that's it, there's so many people out there who are the same. I realise it isn't, and yeah, I can see it tears you down, but you can't change what others think is metal. This might be a "flaw", or a "mistake", maybe a "misunderstanding", but I do think "Nu-Metal" is a sub-genre of metal. Or atleast related to metal. It's one hell of a genre, and it's big, but I still think it's metal. Now, as much as you probably disagree with me here, and yeah, I am waiting for a huge disagreement to arise, I'm just stating my opinion.
