Manga When did you first start drawing manga?
You Don't Care replied to cyborg715's topic in Otaku Central
About a year ago myself. I didn't really draw at all until I got OUT of high school. But I guess you could call it comics than actual manga. Maybe if I made ten issue volumes then it would be classified. -
EDIT: If anyone wants to see my work then you have to go to www.deviantart.com and look me up there. But since no one is even the slightest bit interested to post here, what chance is there of you going to put effort into looking for me, right?

THIS REPLY IS NOT BULL! READ THOROUGHLY! First of all, what I got from TokyoPops manga line is that when you submit it (living in the Western Hemisphere) they want a great majority of the profit. Sure your comic will be out there (if it is the quality they are looking for) but sending it in will give them the power to own it and take away rights from you. This is their quota and in the fine print for submitting. If you feel confident in going public your own way, however, try getting in on something else like Black Horse or some other Publishing line that you are most familiar with. If you are unsure of that, go to a comic store and look at comic series that are less famous. I found this out from reading "Conan" (newer comic series from Dark Horse) and the writer/artist lives in town. He just submitted and they wanted it. I am sure you can have a more worthwhile career as a comicker by going through the publishing chain than straight to TokyoPop. You can submit a copy of your work to TokyoPop as an option along with other publishers to give yourself a range and more to work with. Making yourself as a target for competition among these people is also a good way to go about things. Of course it all comes to how good you are! I wish you luck.

Manga how do other dojinshi writers get ideas
You Don't Care replied to ichibanotakubak's topic in Otaku Central
Questions to concider when writing: 1.What is the reason for the story? 2.What would I like the readers to interpret my story as? 3.Does my plot have dilemma?..romance?..suspence?..trauma? 4.Wouls the dialogue be meaningful or blantantly passive? Come up with questions on your own. But sometimes, the most questions would be worthless depending on genre... There you go: 1.What is the genre? -
As long as you follow left to right then down (or right to left then down) rules then wherever the panels may be, along the differences in size of each if you prefer, then it will look good. Practice makes perfect..along with a little research and visual study.

Do you have links to where you can be found, such as a journal or forum? It would be best to bring deep conversation there. PM me links if you get the chance. You probably remember, but just in case I was that guy who said that I would give you a sample of my work. I could PM the link to my gallery if you want it.

I recommend in trying methods or copying exsistant hair styles. If you want something straighfoward, then start with a point on the head where the hair begins to fall then visualize where you want it to hang (bangs for example). Practice makes perfect.

Post your pitch. Include: 1.Plot summary 2.Style direction (optional) 3.Length of project 4.Extra Info These are suggested in posting something worth reading. Although you caught my interest otherwise.

The emporer thing happened in a movie that had absolutely nothing with the actual series (OVA)! He was trained with Tien under the Crane School, which is the rival school of Roshi's Turtle School. Watch Dragonball or read the manga. It actuall is really good if you read it all.

I've been casually working on ideas for you, but there really isn't anything "true" to go on, you know what I mean. The best kind of villian is one that challenges the aspects and reasoning of the main characters. Not much else I can help on. Unless you want me to help with designs, that I can do in a snap (provided the attitude and quirks are available).

I read the entire thread and this is my conclusion about all subject matter. Here it is. ... There is profit in blaming something like a video game as the problem for an act of violence. There is profit to sue these companies, which couldn't care less of how pathetic you are for taking the easy way out. However... There is no profit to blame alcohol or drugs in general, because these are products that you can't blame any particular company for and it makes us forget our problems when we take this and drink that. There is no profit to blame religion, because how are you going to get anything material from a church or a belief. And besides, religion is what makes us feel better about our one-sided, thick-skulled delusions that hide us from the reality that we know, deep down, that we can't hide from. But it makes us sleep better at night. Blame the category that is the most likely to make money and choose the item of that category that is the most likey making the most profit. Because with that money, you can buy your pleasures and support your religion that couldn't possibly do wrong. ...Besides. The greatest profit is taking the easy way out.

Gaming For My Own Curiosity: Which Next-Gen Console Would You Rather Purchase?
You Don't Care replied to a topic in Noosphere
I'd prefer the Nintendo Revolution. Backwards compatible to as far as "the beginning of time", the descent of cheapest systems in the big business category, and excellent range of games! (NOT including every game ever made for a Nintendo system.) But that's just me. -
Art Lineart- A Newfound Friend(crit away)
You Don't Care replied to drab_hound's topic in Creative Works
I know I can't outcriticize Goddess at the moment, but I have to get my word in, anyhow. I liked how the chair goes off of the page. It had a strange effect on me while I was scrolling down. 'What the heck are those line for? OH, it's a chair! DANG!" I enjoyed that part. After seeing the whole piece, I started to admire your work with the sillhouette (is that mispelled?). The shoulders are slack (in posture, which is good) and I can see the shoes, pants, and waist as if they were actually there and drawn completely in. The hands are perfect, too. I agree totally on Goddess there. And the head, hair, expression, and angle(s) are right up there with the original Hellsing critique. The best mix of all perspectives and lines that I have seen on Otakuboards. Keep up the work and excell. -
Wow! I am surprised that I didn't notice this thread before. The lines of all of your drawings are fine as well as the shading of the Furi Kuri and the coloring of the other two are a nice twist. (I never crayoned a manga styled sketch before.) You have definitely done justice to all of these shows. Midori no Hibi is a good show and I have yet to see fan sketches of it, besides yours of course. It will have to me my second favorite, because your Azumanga Daio one was nice sweeping lines. Do you use tools for some of these? Because I think, from the way that some of them look, that you don't.

REBOOT?! How old is that show? I remember whatching it like possibly seven years ago! The series is awesome.

Funny. I was waiting for someone to reply on the thread or PM me. I think it is a good idea that I dissapear from this thing, anyways. Not that many eager players for this thing after all. I was hoping to at least get everyone together.

I actually use both depending on how lazy I am or if the context of my sentences provide it. Tomay-to Tomah-to

An arm, a leg and half a foot: the gas price thread
You Don't Care replied to ChibiHorsewoman's topic in General Discussion
FOOLS! I pay $200 all year on public transportation! I never needed the use for a car and everything I need to get to is within 2 miles. Of course I'll sacrifice my right to spend thousands of dollars a year on private transportation and take that extra 15 to 45 minutes a day. Besides. Getting up earlier to get to work and finding ways to plan your day better builds character (and fattens your wallet a little every day). -
Ahhh. Very intersting! I'll get my brain a chuggin' along and give ideas later as to what would be cool villians or "arch-types" for your comic. I will edit this post later (unless someone posts after me) with some extra content.

How about Star Ocean 2? Awesome story! Cool stuff! Anime-esk already!... But wait! They already do! Sweeeeet... And the rest of Arc the Lad series, maybe. And what would be really cool is to see Akira or Vandread (not just the robot parts) as games!
it's all about the character the way the manga starts
I have fallen in love with youuuuu're way in thinking. Any comic artist who says that the characters can make the story, instead of making characters that can best suit a pre-made plot, is definitely a bold one. True to the art and not entirely dependent on the story is an excellent approach. And also, it is a breath of fresh air to see others approach creativity in different ways.. What?...OH, the topic! Yeah. Check out http://www.howtodrawmanga.com! That is where I started. They have all kinds of books and ideas (as well as a few formulas) for doing everything comics.

I use a very simple method when it comes to "serious" inking. Trace the drawing/sketch in thin ink. (Remember. Just the parts you know that look good.) Make sure the lines are clear, but they don't have to be perfect. That is the cool part. Then, once you have the entire thing inked and all the parts you know that want to have "smooth" lines, bust out the ol' french curves (It's a tool damn it!). If you don't have one, then buy one. It is well worth a lowsy 5 bucks (or so..)! Now use that tool to completely solidy and modify the many curves so that they look professional. (Which indeed make the piece professional. Unless you have complete control of your arm. Unlike me. I am a complete spaz when it comes to holding still for so long.) Now you know why all them lines are so smooth for being "totally freehand". *insert text here to annuciate dramatic finger quotation* If this tip is not what you wanted or it doesn't work, then I guess I can give out a few more tips. :therock:
