the reason why i'm here is i was debating the lines of separation w/ my friend who isn't an otaku but has seen a few anime's that he's liked. he was debating why there is the belief that anime should be in it's own category although it still falls in a sub-category of cartoons. my argument was: "the style of drawing, culture represented, storylines, and everything else are all diff from western cartoons and influenced by Japanese society. i see cartoon as a negative description of anime, because when ppl talk about cartoons they generally are talking about shows and movies that have significantly inferior (or less complex) plotlines, artwork, and significance which is not what most anime is about at all." he replied: "i completely disagree. i think ur defintion of cartoon is itself inferior. their can be cartoons that have weak plots, but their can also be some with great ones- like have you ever seen a cartoon series called The World's Finest? could probablty match any great plot i suppose." then i answered: "but generally when people speak to me about cartoons they are stereotypically speaking, and they are under the notion that "cartoons" exist only to entertain children and are thus inferior. because of the negative stereotypes that are linked with the term cartoon itself, i don't like associating anime w/ it. when enough ppl say that we like cartoons w/ out a sneer or w/out negative surprise, we will no longer take offense. but until then, anime is it's own category as far as we are concerned even tho they are also technically cartoons." what do you guys think?
haruko girl here at OtakuBoards, we greatly emphasize the concept of having clear, easy to read posts. This includes correct use of spelling, grammar and punctuation. Abbreviations are not a good idea as they make it harder for others to understand what you are trying to say so please improve your post quality. If you have any questions feel free to pm myself or another member of the staff. ~indifference

i also love Appleseed, but not necessarily for it's animation although the animation is def awesome. honestly i thought the animation in Advent Children is better, but i dunno it that would be fair to say that because i think the style of cg animation in Appleseed is just different. but the music was good too. what i loved most about Appleseed though was the concept above all. the idea that maybe humanity is destined to destroy itself is def feasible. it might become a reality that we may have to use technology in order to find a way that we don't destroy ourselves.
and i don't mean to sound like too much of a nature freak but i think making the bioroids able to function to their full capacity as normal human beings can was the only way to save humans. i mean, if they are limited by their "category" ((race??)) then they would just be put off and discrimintated against as a group because of their tendencies. but, if their integrated into the human race then the concerns of the humans will become more linked to to concerns of the bioroids. lol, does anyone understand what i'm talking about?
my 2 favorite parts of the movie would prolly have to be:
1. when Deunan is with Hitomi and they're attached by the 2 androids 2. & epecially when Deunan takes out that whole unit in the training exercise. i love it how she x's out how many she's taken out on her arm!
but i didn't know that there was a sequel . . . i'll have to check that out. and for anyone who hasn't seen Blue Submarine No. 6- u need to. i own it and i love it, the concepts in that are interesting as well, tho it's prolly a bit harder to follow than Appleseed. the way they integrate cg animation into the cells is awesome, and the soundtrack just rocks.

yea, most def cannot wait for Kingdom Hearts to come stateside, i'm already in love with the opening! someone prolly already gave you the link you need, but i have a mac too and you can just search it ((or anything else)) on youtube.com, or you can watch it on the main page of my profile site. you can also find the lyrics and other sweet stuff here: Sora's Domain or here: Kingdom Hearts Ultimania . i downloaded the original video for Utada Hikaru's "Passion" as soon as i heard it! and i started watching all her other video's as well . . . i never thought i would get into j-pop o_O . . . hope i helped! ooo, and does anyone know anything about the storyline? in the opening
it seems like everyone's grown up by the time it's finished. and who's the weird albino looking girl who's drawing everything, and the guy fighting Sora w/ Riku in that white hallway?
the official website seems to have like no information on it

it almost seems like you're not supposed to fully understand FLCL all the way in some universal, black-and-white terms. i don't think there are any concrete and definite impressions or ideas that you are intended to recieve from it, there is a lot of symbolism and hidden meanings but like anything you can get out of it what you want, only in a more abstract sort of way. ummm yea, i'm just in love w/ FLCL . . . ooo, and from what i found out there is no FLCL movie coming out, it was just a miscommunication. here's a good reference site to find out more: Agefive.com. if all you want is the info on the movie rumor, scroll to the bottom- but that site is for ppl who've seen all 6 episodes so there are spoilers. there are some interesting interpretations on this site. i bought the manga for my friend but it doesn't seem to touch the anime in any shape or form in my opinion. the artwork is unique but it doesn't really appeal to me, and how can you have FLCL without THE PILLOWS? through that anime they've become one of my favorite groups and i now have their cd's. it would be pretty sweet though if they came out with more episodes or even a movie to extend the series- i dunno what it could be about but it would have to be as awesome as the original which would be really hard to top.
Originally Posted by algazaleen! Spoilers. Highlight them. Anyway, there is also some stuff from evangelion, but it doesn't play a very large role.
huh? so there are references to Evangelion in FLCL?

Anime Anime that need a sequel/continuation
haruko girl replied to 5th Hokage's topic in Otaku Central
i agree about not having a sequel to Trigun or Cowboy Bebop. Bebop is such a good series and would be almost impossible to top, and like Solo Tremaine said, Trigun went as far as it could reasonably go. some anime aren't meant to continue in my opinion, i mean all good things must come to an end, right? one anime i wish didn't continue is Tenchi Muyo. although it's very popular and everyone wants to know what will happen next between Tenchi and all of the girls in the house, it was a good series while it last. actually, i wouldn't mind a sequel to that series so much except that i thought Tenchi in Tokyo was a really pathetic continuation. it completely tarnished an already excellent series through it's low quality animation, storyline, music, and lack of some of the original voice actors ((Ryoko!!!)). two anime i would like to see continue are Furuba and Full Metal Panic Fumoffu. both are really good series which ended supprisingly suddenly. i remember staying up all night with my friend watching the last Furuba DVD, crying when reaching the last couple episodes, and reaching the last one which was good, but left us hanging. we sat there thinking, wait, this is it??. it seemed like they quickly tried to squeeze a generalized ending in that episode so they could finish the series, and i feel that FMP didn't even do that much. i LOVE both and hope that isn't all they have for us. -
i've never seen the anime, but i have all of the manga that are out in the states and it's my new favorite manga. has anyone read the books and knows how much the anime follows the storyline of the manga? i don't know about the anime but the manga are still coming ((there are 6 out of 10 in the U.S. so far)) out so it's probably the same case for the anime. if the anime's as good as the manga, i will definitelyy buy it.

awwww, your a good boyfriend going to these lengths to surprise ya girl. but anyways, i think it would be cute to plan a mini hike, or camping trip or something for her while she's gone . . . but i dunno how old you are or where you live so that all depends. you could also take her someplace to get tea and buy her a lil present or something, or since she likes the outdoors it could be an outdoor picnic type thing. i dunno how small your town is, but another idea is that you could take her to see a shakespeare play or something. i hope i helped, lol. good luck!

I started thinking the other day about this, and after not coming to come to any definite conclusions, i decided to start a thread and put this up for debate. At this day in age, as the fan base for anime grows, so does the variety of available shows. There are the Shows that we all watch and love that we know are anime- like Spirited Away, Neon Genesis Evangeleon, Fruits Basket, & DBZ- but there are also more and more shows that seem more "questionable" when it comes to their category such as Teen Titans & Avatar. With the line that separates anime from general cartoon becoming more and more blurred, where do you think the line begins and ends, and why? Tell me what u think.

Anime favorite and least favorite anime songs
haruko girl replied to ChibiHorsewoman's topic in Otaku Central
there are a lot of songs that i really like, but here are some of the main one's- "Obsession" from .hack//SIGN, "Inner Universe", "Lithium Flowetr", and "Run Rabbit Junk" from Ghost in the Shell: OST, all of the InuYasha end songs, "Crazy Sunshine" from FLCL, "Real Folk Blues" & the opening song from Cowboy Bebop, "Half Pain" from Witch Hunter Robin, "Simple and Clean" from Kingdom Hearts, "Gravity" from Wolf's Rain. i know there are more that i just can't think of right now, but when i think of anime songs i can't stand the opening theme for Big O comes to mind. i just bust out laughing when i see it- i don't know why. . . -
personally, i don't fit into any one group. i do have a wide variety of friends: goths, punks, jocks, preps, hip hop kids, and gamers; i pretty much get along with anyone and am friends w/ a lot of people. i go 2 a small private school so i don't always kno about some stereotyping associated w/ specific things in public schools. i bought a tee from this one store like over 6 yrs ago be4 the store was well known, and once when i was wearing it my friend who goes to a public school was like "i didn't kno u were a prep" and i had no idea it was considered 2 be a preppy store ((but i won't go to like Aberchrombie and buy a shirt 4 like $30- no offense but personally i think that's a waste)). i didn't really care, i'll still wear the shirt. one thing i hate though is when people look @ me and try to catagorize me. there is no way you can look at me and deturmine who i am ((or ne1 4 that matter)) because there are so many different aspects of my character. yea i play sports, play video games, watch anime, like going out, get good grades, dancing, reading, drawing, and having a good time but it doesn't mean i fit into any one category for others to define who i am. if i feel like getting up and wearing a black shirt, jeans w/ buckles all over them and darker makeup i will. if i feel like wearing a skirt w/ flip flops and a tee i will. i wear what i feel like and in the mood for, that's all there is to it. all i can be is real.

i like the message this one is trying to convey, but i thought of a way of rephrasing it: some nights without sleep i stare up at the ceiling asking what went wrong it's still not metaphorical or fanciful or nething- it's blunt and to the point, tho at the same time it's different, and this is one that everyone and anyone can definately relate to at some point in their lives. i dunno, tell me what u think- my site.
I couldn't come up with a title for this, so It's just the first few words of the haiku. Comments are appreciated. Meh. I used the word 'word' too close to each other. This one I dont like too much. This mouth gnashes words With sharp words they assail me How rude is their tounge!
i have to admit, i don't like this one as much as the others i viewed but at the same time it's not bad. i understand what ur saying about the whole word thing, and u don't have to but you could maybe use thoughts, ideas, or demands in place of words in the second line- except u would have to change something to use demands because it's 2 syllables. good luck with it.

i liked Blossomed too. i like ur haiku because they're not stale. i mean, i like nature and haiku and everything, but it gets repetitive hearing about wisdom and nature all the time. i can understand and relate to your haiku. i also like the second line too- it's not some fantasy-like thing that's artifically beautiful or an elaborate way of describing something. gasoline is something that we all see in today's society, and wouldn't think of as something you could attribute something to in poetry. you took something common, gave it meaning, and made it work, even if it was scribbled down in class. nice.
Azure Azure sea glimmers The sun's gold lines every cloud I wish you were here. The last line were inspired by Incubus' song "Wish you were here." I thought it fit perfectly with what I was trying to say, and it was 5 syllables! The only qualm I have with it is... is 'azure' two or three syllables? I don't even know how to pronounce it. Constructive criticsm is welcome! Most of my poems aren't even commented on, which doesn't help me improve. >_>
i really like this poem. it paints a beautiful picture and it's really cute and sweet in only 17 syllables- that takes talent. p.s.- i'm pretty sure azure is 2 syllables.

before- i was all for the parents but now i'm not as sure about my opinion as i was. i'm not on a specific side nemore because when it comes down to it, none of us truly know all of the story in it's entirety, but what really pissed me off is when Terri passed away, her husband wouldn't let her parents go see her. i mean- sure he may have his reasons as to why he wanted Terri's feeding tube removed, but there is no excuse that can justify him keeping Terri's parents away when she was dying- no excuse! you just don't do that.
