Manga Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle [Warning: Spoilers]
SunfallE replied to Aya_Fujimiya_42's topic in Otaku Central
Well the latest chapter was quite interesting with all the magic going on. Fei Wong was definitely not happy at all. However based on one panel in the last chapter, it no seems that I need to read up on Cardcaptor Sakura as well. I am assuming the staff and the card reference is in relation to that series. Okay, nevermind, I just asked and Des confirmed it by saying the staff shown is one that is from that series. o_O Things are certainly getting interesting, and more complicated as well. -

?If you can?t get through one paragraph without swearing, then you need to get a dictionary and starting expanding your vocabulary.?
That really sums it up for me as well. Just as the bit about there being a time and place for it does too. It's not that hard to not swear after all. I tend to not swear a lot since I was raised where it was discouraged and then had jobs where it was also discouraged. So though I do swear some, it's not a lot. I'd definitely say the trend of swearing more is true, but I don't know if I'd blame the current economic crisis. I think it just gave some people a new thing to swear at.

See that implies that there's no reason Macey hates Bavaria. She's not insane in her hatred, she's also not actively sending Bavaria hate mail, she just passive aggressively makes her annoyed, upset, and feel harassed. Her sister hated Bavaria, Fonty is on the fence, and their mutual sibling is too nice to hate anyone.[/FONT']
I'm not saying she doesn't have a reason. But we never did fully explore why some seem to hate her so much. After all she was disliked before the events at the funeral and follow up with her getting cozy with the Dynast. Bavaria definitely needs more to her and Indi already started fleshing her out a bit with the concern over Harrison's career, so I'm sure that process will continue as the rp progresses.
She had a Father and Brother who was much too busy bickering to really provide her comfort and another entire family who hated her from day one.
Rach already covered it in his post, but saying the entire family hated her is a stretch really. Alecia never hated her and they got over the spat they had before the other arch even ended. Just go back and re-read our posts and you'll see for yourself. I honestly don't know where this idea that everyone hated her is coming from. Macey is just insane really since her intense hatred of the woman doesn't reflect what the rest of the family thinks of Bavaria.

Elaine was checking Jace to see if he was hurt when she heard Juste utter the phrase uh-oh. Something about the tone caught her attention and she turned sharply, still on her knees. She watched as Felix tried to help him only to slip himself and fall as well. It happened so fast that they were over the edge before she was even halfway up in an attempt to assist them. She was brought up short when her coat caught in something and she looked back to see what it was. Jace had a hold of it and he was shaking his head at her as he got to his feet. Elaine tried to pull her coat free but he wouldn?t let go. ?Let go Jace!? ?No Priestess,? He said sternly. ?It?s too dangerous.? ?But.? She started to protest. ?No buts.? He steadied himself. ?We won?t do them any good if we fall and land on top of them. Give us a moment to check and then we?ll decide what to do.? She looked at him for a moment and then nodded reluctantly. ?Very well.? Elaine started to take a deep breath and stopped herself, remembering at the last moment that doing so in such cold temperatures wasn?t a good idea. There was nothing for her to do other than to check their packs as Jace gathered the Chimeras and Gerald carefully checked the edge of the canyon that the two had fallen into. His expression was grim when he finally returned to the group. ?The fog makes it impossible to see the bottom and the side of the canyon is covered in ice. We do have some rope for climbing, but if the drop is too far, climbing back up would be troublesome.? Gerald explained. ?What do you suggest?? Elaine asked. ?Even if?? She choked a little at the thought of them being dead. It was possible they had landed in snow and were fine; she pushed the thought back, until she knew for sure she wouldn?t accept it. Gerald looked briefly at Jace and then back to her, none of them willing to voice what they each had to be thinking. He pulled out the map they were supposed to be using and held it so the others could see it. ?I think we are here.? He pointed to the map. ?If we follow the edge of the canyon here it looks like it gradually goes down to the valley floor. Once we?re there we can backtrack to where they fell.? ?But that will take hours.? Elaine bit back her frustration. If they weren?t dead, they could be seriously hurt and the longer they took to get there? ?Alright, let?s get going.? There was nothing she could do to make things go quicker. Jace had tethered up the Chimeras that Felix and Juste had been riding and they followed along, unbothered by the sudden change. Gerald was taking the lead while Jace brought up the rear. It seemed to take forever to follow the edge of the canyon down. Hours later, it felt like something was off since the climate seemed to be changing drastically. She had to be imagining things; it couldn?t be getting warmer, at least not enough for her to be able to notice it. But as small patches of earth began to become visible and then the snow vanished as they finally got to the bottom of the canyon and turned to head back in, the sight of tall lush green trees in the distance was even more startling. They couldn?t have traveled down far enough for anything like that to be possible. What in the world is going on?

And here I would have thought the employee would have known better. Every job I've had that dealt with any form of merchandise, had a very strict policy about not taking stuff, even if it was put in the trash. It was considered grounds for immediate termination. The others have covered it, but if people can just wait for something to be tossed then why bother to pay? Also, like Darren, I'd like to know if this was a first offense or if they've been reprimanded for such behavior before.

Students post videos of brawls online
SunfallE replied to Rachmaninoff's topic in General Discussion

What annoys me really is the double-standard I think. I mean YouTube probably wouldn't allow video of, say, a viscious dog fight or something - so why allow videos of children getting into often serious brawls? At least maybe an attempt should be made to rate videos, but I suppose that has its own pitfalls too.
I don't think they encourage it. I didn't read through their complete terms of service, but the second page of the article did say this:
Scott Rubin, a spokesman for Google-owned YouTube, said users can flag videos for graphic or gratuitous violence. The company then reviews those videos for possible removal. But Rubin said the large volume of content posted to the site ? 15 hours of video every minute ? does not allow the company to search for inappropriate material on its own. "The flagging system works," he said. "Is it perfect? No, of course not. But it's a good system."
It sounds more like a problem of having more material than they can keep up with. That's a lot of videos being uploaded. o_O It would be interesting to see just how much stuff that is flagged by users actually gets removed though. Anyway, in general, I agree that violence isn't necessarily increasing, just our ability to find out about it is. Also, kids recording and posting videos like this... stupid, dumb and not bright at all. -
Elaine was not surprised to find that the Ibert was already being loaded up with supplies, including some chimeras. If there was one thing she had noticed since she became a Priestess, there was nothing that the Sief missed. The woman had a talent for organizing things in addition to finding the right person to oversee certain aspects of the Church. It had to be why she was going along. It was more than just for spiritual guidance; she was trained to treat the sick. Not to the same extent as a true studier of the medical arts but she certainly knew enough. Elaine couldn?t help but notice all of the supplies as she boarded the airship, supplies that indicated they?d be traveling away from the airship. There were kits for making a camp among other things and though the Sief had already mentioned that they would be traveling via Chimeras, it made her glad she had packed the work clothing for those tasks where a Priestess? attire wasn?t suitable. She put her stuff away and then took the time to double check the medical supplies. She was not surprised to find that everything was in order. Now that they were approaching the Vosper Summit Elaine had changed into her work clothing. White boots with fold down flaps lined with gold trim. White pants that tucked into the boots. Along with a long sleeved, high collar short dress that came down just to the top of her legs, the skirt pleated for freedom of movement. The cape that came down to her knees was a medium blue color. It was fastened in place over to the left just below her shoulder by a gold clasp with a blue stone set in the center. There was a blue flat wrap around her waist with a two inch leather belt that fastened in place with a plain brass clasp in front. There was a series of chain loops that ran down from the right with leather straps hanging down a bit since they wrapped around and were fastened to similar chains in the back. When the time came, she would have little pouches that carried various medical supplies that would attach to the chains and leather straps. The outfit was finished off with a band of cloth holding her hair back from her face. Elaine rarely wore her working outfit and as she joined the others, she felt a little self conscious in something other than her Priestess attire. She was still properly covered from head to toe, it just seemed odd to her. Felix turned from where he was standing next to the pilot of the Ibert. ?Perfect timing Priestess. We?re about to land.? He turned back to the pilot and the view of the mountains. She looked over at Juste who was also ready in his cleric uniform. The only difference was a long strap over his shoulders that lead to a small bag. She had seen him tuck a slender notebook into it so it was probably something he needed for working with the Xear language. ?Do you know how to ride Chimeras?? She asked him. Juste glanced briefly in her direction and then back to the view of where they were coming into land. ?I?ve ridden a few times,? he looked back, a look of uncertainty crossing his face. ?It was before I became a cleric so I don?t really remember how.? ?I haven?t ridden one at all.? Elaine said softly. ?You don?t have to worry,? Felix spoke up. ?Jace, one of the men I chose to come with us has worked extensively with Chimeras.? Elaine was puzzled. ?I thought he was a guard.? ?He is. So is Gerald our other escort and Tailem, our pilot. I chose people who have some form of experience.? Felix explained. ?Tailem will be staying here to keep an eye on the ship.? He looked directly at both of them. ?It wouldn?t do to come back and find other groups have messed with our ship.? Elaine, upon thinking about it, agreed. It was going to be dangerous enough as it was. Just looking at the mountains from the safety of the ship was intimidating. The Vosper summit had a reputation of being treacherous and looking at the steep slopes and rocky terrain only confirmed what she had heard about it. She took a seat when the others did as Tailem skillfully brought the ship in to land. As it settled down she couldn?t help but feel grateful that they would be using Chimeras. Even if she didn?t know how to ride them, she couldn?t imagine attempting to climb further up. She was in good shape but it was tiring to simply look at it. ?Alright, go and fetch your packs, as soon as the chimeras are unloaded we?ll be heading out.? Felix said.

As it stands now the Church group should be arriving at the Vosper Summit, with the Anovans some distance behind. I'll likely be writing the introduction post to Vosper, I just want to talk to Sunfall or Rach first. The Czenovians haven't even left yet, but if someone wants to handle that feel free.
I'll be handling their arrival. I'm working on that right now and since I know exactly what I want to do, it will be posted this evening. And I just know you're up to something sneaky Shy. I don't see the church managing to sneak in there and snatch the artifact before the others arrive. So I guess the only question remaining is to see just what kind of trouble you're going to land us in. lol

Fastidious spelling snobs pushed over the edge
SunfallE replied to Rachmaninoff's topic in General Discussion
Oh gosh, I just don't care really. Unless it's professional stuff. I mean if you go to the doctor's office and they have signs in there misspelled, you're not going to feel very confident in their ability to treat you. XD I ran into that just this week since I had to go in for my yearly check up. They had mixed up the forms of your/you're for one of the boards about insurance for tests. Looking at it reminded me of this thread. Anyway, I make so many mistakes and would just die without spell check so I tend to ignore simple mixups. Though I have to admit that mangled posts are a bit annoying. I prefer it if someone at least puts the effort in. If that's the case a mistake or two is fine, but if it's something that is just littered with them... ugh. -
So... what did you get for Christmas?
SunfallE replied to ChibiHorsewoman's topic in General Discussion
I forgot to post in this and getting my new Star Ocean game reminded me this fact. I picked up an xbox 360 and Tales of Vesperia. I also got an art book for Full Moon (I'm a sucker for anime art books cause they're so pretty). That about covered it, well other than some recordings that were made for me. :catgirl: -
These attempts to ban Barbie always make me giggle. Mainly because I had three older brothers growing up. So my dolls fell victim to us eventually blowing them up with firecrackers all in the name of good fun. =P Since then I have collected a handful over the years cause I thought they were pretty. Like my one of Princess Leia from Star Wars and Queen Amadala. The dolls never made me feel like I wasn't pretty enough, they were just good fun to blow up and then later become decorations for my room. lol

I'll take the blame. I forgot to host the Official OtakuBoards Whine Day last fall. I'll be sure to run it again this year so people don't get mad and leave. >_> XD Anyway... normal ebb and flow? Moving on? School, blah, blah, blah? I do know that like Darren said we do have a nice shiny prominent link over on theO's main page, so hopefully that will generate some more activity around here. :catgirl:

What did you want to be when you grew up?
SunfallE replied to ChibiHorsewoman's topic in General Discussion

I wanted to be King of OtakuBoards and 8 years later I'm still waiting....
*gives you one of those paper crowns you can get for parties* There, just be a kind benevolent ruler or we'll revolt. ._. Anyway, when I was little, I was going to travel to other worlds and be an explorer. Until I got old enough to realize space shows weren't real in any sense of the word. So then it became different things like teaching, driving, etc. It changes depending on what's around for work. =P -

Into The Sandstorm Lucia didn?t even bother to object to receiving help. Lately, any form of protest hadn?t done her any good. From the moment she had been summoned and informed that she had to accept being a Reaper and abandon her research, not once had her attempts to stop it, or anything else for that matter, made a difference. So this time, she just nodded and did what Phaidra suggested. She gave her the list of her current assignments and set her communicator so it would forward any surprise assignments to Phaidra for the next couple of days. Then, other than to snatch brief moments of work to dredge for information, she let healing trances deal with the injury. Now, a couple of days later, as she sat in front of her computer and checked her searches and looked for information on the vampire they had killed, it was becoming apparent that it had resulted in that line of investigation being closed. The messages she had been tracking had been redirected. Whoever changed it had increased the security, which meant she was going to have to rewrite her program and crack it. Her searches for information, based on what the identification that Phaidra had gotten from the vampire stated, also lead to a dead end. It was clearly fake since there were no matching records in the city and the address didn?t exist either. In other words, the best they had done was manage to eliminate one vampire and the name she had gotten, if they were indeed the person in charge of it, would be aware of what they were up to. However, considering the trap that Phaidra had collapsed a short while back, it was likely that was already the case. We?re lucky there weren?t more of them there. If there had been, training or not, they would have died. Ruby had been more than right; her stupid insistence on keeping others at arm?s length was going to get them killed. The training she had gotten from the humans had helped, but it wasn?t enough and if not for Phaidra?s quick thinking in using barriers to impede the vampire?s movements, she had no doubts that the woman would have won. ?What are you thinking Lucia?? Her eyes flickered over briefly to where Ruby was sitting on the makeshift desk and then back to the flat screen on the wall. ?I?m thinking about what we need to do next.? She started typing up a list. ?I need to write a new program to track the messages since the security has been increased. I need to find out more about who this Shou Jian is.? She trailed off... She had an idea on how to do that, though it was potentially problematic. ?Are you going to ask Nathan about training?? Ruby interjected. Lucia snorted, ?Who else would I ask? I already checked out the humans in the city. I could hunt for more contacts to see if there are others who know more, but I get the feeling that one of our own is what I really need now.? She had some other ideas she wanted to try out as well, getting stabbed was something she didn?t want to repeat. Getting electrocuted hadn?t been very pleasant either. I just hope Phaidra didn?t notice... She looked over at the two dirks they had brought back. They would be essential to what she had in mind. Lucia could finally figure out what they were and why they couldn?t ghost through them, and having them on hand would make testing something she wanted to try out easier. If what she had in mind worked, it would make getting stabbed like she had less likely. As soon as she finished up a bit more work, she was going to go and retrieve the necessary crystal material to get started. ?Are you sure you really want to write the other program you mentioned? If you get caught...? ?Yeah, I know.? That was something that really would get her in a lot of trouble, even more than she was now. But she couldn?t shake the feeling of uneasiness she had. ?I?ll be as careful as possible, I promise.? Before that though, she needed to send off the detailed report about that line of investigation being a dead end to Nathan and to ask him about training. If not him then who he would recommend. And then she needed to talk to Phaidra and Sarvel about magic.
