I don't have any type that I drink at all. I do have some herbal tea that has the effect of waking you up a bit, but it's not an energy drink and happens to be healthy for you, so that doesn't really count. The closest I come to what could be considered an "energy drink" is perhaps soda for the caffeine in it. In the end, I prefer water actually, even if I am tired and could use something to wake me up a bit.

Does anyone believe in love at first sight???
SunfallE replied to Lunar's topic in General Discussion

So does that make it fair to call all the people who believe in love at first sight delusional fools?
Who said anything about delusional? Rose colored glasses implies that upon reaching that happier state of love or marriage, the person or persons in question are looking back at when they first met and romanticizing it as if it were a perfect moment of instant love. But the reality is, as one who is 37 and has watched her friends get married - declare it was love at first sight, only to later on get divorced and realize it was anything but that... just brings home the reality that if anything, love at first sight, or rather believing in it is dangerous and downright foolish if you want to build something that's going to last. Everyone I know who has been more successful with their marriage and raising kids, do think of that moment they first met as being special, but they never say they fell in love at first sight. Because after a decade or more of raising kids and getting through those hard times, their love is far more than just a fleeting first second of meeting one another. So I do not believe in it because it is a false promise or faulty belief that you can just meet someone and instantly fall in love. True love in my opinion comes from getting to truly know the person you are with and putting in the effort to make it work. True love comes from all those little things you do for one another that shows you know them well enough to understand them. -
Don't let these guys being mischievous fool you chibi-master, Naps was nothing more than a prank being pulled by some members who were bored and had nothing better to do than troll the boards. :p The article fails to mention that they were having fun also trolling staff by sending pm's with nothing but variations of the word meow in it. In other words, pointless spam really. Now as for pets, I prefer dogs. I grew up with St. Bernard's but I grew tired of larger breeds since they're a lot of work. Believe me, as someone who knows how to properly wash dry and groom them... it's a hassle. I've grown fond of smaller mid-sized dogs, especially ones that don't shed and are not hyper.
Oh! That's the one with the boy who transforms into other types of warriors right? One with long blonde hair and the other a type of energy being. He has a flute he plays melodies on to unlock parts of the dungeons if I remember correctly.
You remember correctly. Ironically I just got a copy of the soundtrack to that game. Listening to it is making me want to replay it as well as wish they would do a remake of it. I just wish they would stop putting re-makes on a hand held system. I so prefer a larger screen over the tiny one of the DS. XP And since I'm in here yet again I wouldn't mind seeing a re-make of Quest 64. The idea had merit but they didn't really go very far with it in my opinion. It's something that if fleshed out could potentially be a lot more fun. I enjoyed it for a once through but that was about it since the story was kind of non-existent. It's like they got half way done producing it and just skipped straight to production instead of giving it any real depth. So I'd be curious to see it in a more developed format since I did like the basic idea.

Since everyone has their own opinion, which video games are better? Battle Games, Fighting Games, Adventure Games, Gameshow games, or any other games?
I can't really say one is better since it's so dependent on what one actually likes to play. I could say that Adventure/RPG games are the best, but that's only based on what I prefer since I find Battle/Fighting/Racing games boring. So sure I think Adventure/RPG games are the best, but again, that's what I like to play. I'd rather not go into why since that's kind of pointless really.

Always On Call Lucia briefly lost her focus on the current conversation upon hearing that not only had Phaidra wanted to come to Earth to do research, but that her request had been granted. It was absurd really, that she was denied that when others were obviously accommodated when it came to doing what they wanted to. For the briefest moment she had the desire to head back and demand an answer and only the fact that previous attempts had been ruthlessly crushed stopped her. Instead she did what she always did; put it aside as best as she could since there was no point in dwelling on it. There was nothing she could do, just as there would be no point in discussing it with the others. She had made that mistake in the beginning, attempting to find some form of recourse. That had resulted in those who had considered assisting her being told to mind their own business. With a start she realized that both Phaidra and Sarvel were leaving and she hastily brought her thoughts back to the reason why she wanted to talk to Nathan in the first place. Lucia did her best to be as expressionless as possible though she got the impression that Nathan missed nothing. ?So,? he finally asked once Phaidra and Sarvel had left. ?What exactly were you in such a hurry to discuss?? Lucia wondered briefly yet again if her impatience had done more harm than good and yet at the same time, she wasn?t very good at reading others intent or body language. So she did as she always did and simply moved straight to what she wanted to ask him. ?I wanted to ask you about this,? she moved to where the computer she had was set up, sending out the tiny trace of spiritual energy necessary to turn on the six by six picture hanging on her wall, activating the screen. Within mere seconds it responded to her also sending the data she had gotten from her scans at the Count?s mansion. The image was split among three sections, the first one on the left was that of the actual room where all of them had been caught in the trap before they had gotten to the Count. The image was far from pretty since it was one of the blood splatters and ribbons of flesh that were spread out on the floor. The middle section was a compilation of the actual data, a summary based on what she had been able to determine from the information gained from the scans. The final section on the right was a simulation of what had happened that she had prepared in an attempt to fill in the gaps, it was not complete in that it only showed the patterns that matched up with the data, but it was clear what it was supposed to represent. She waited briefly for Nathan and Isen to take in what was on the screen before she continued. ?I?ve checked and re-checked the information from the scans I got at the mansion,? she paused to fold her arms when Nathan turned to look at her. ?No Shinigami is capable of moving at that speed, at least not that I?m aware of.? Nathan just looked amused so Lucia pressed on. ?Obviously you can since you did so to take my communicator briefly, but that?s not the point here. The problem with the information is that blood splatters though useful in determining what happened are only good up to a certain point. With each blow, more is sent out based on the speed, direction and type of hit. The more there is, the more the original pattern is corrupted by the next spray of blood.? ?You don?t say.? Nathan remarked casually. Lucia reached over and picked up a small little scanner off the desk, holding it up between her and Nathan, waiting for him to take it, ?I wanted to ask you if you would be willing to use this and record that move that you did that resulted in your opponent being reduced to ribbons. I already have most of the data from studying the results, but I?d like to fill in the gaps.? Instead of answering immediately Nathan folded his arms and gave her what seemed like an odd look to her as he considered her request. ?Why?? He finally spoke. She was pretty certain that he didn?t need an answer but considering what she was asking it was only fair to give him one. ?I?m sure I don?t have to tell you just how stupid that whole affair with the Count was.? He nodded in agreement to the statement. ?Sending all of us on a mission where only one of us had any clue about what was going on? It was almost as if the Council didn?t care if Aeru was rescued or if any of us died. Other than yourself, none of us knew anything about vampires; the whole thing was utterly stupid and pointless. Especially when I find it hard to believe that the Council knew nothing about the fact that vampires are still around.? Movement from the simulation on the screen reminded her that it was still on, prompting Lucia to send a trace of energy to shut it off before continuing. ?In addition to gathering more data on what Reapers are capable of, since the Count was able to move quicker as well, I intend to track down information about vampires and their abilities here on Earth.? Lucia scoffed a bit, ?It's my intent to learn more so we're not so ill-prepared should another issue like that comes up. I have no desire to be sent on another suicide mission like that. We may be eternal, but it doesn?t mean we can?t die and I already know that the Council can?t be relied on to give us any information at all.? Having warmed up to her subject, Lucia completely missed how Nathan slightly raised one of his eyebrows at her last statement. She was too caught up in what she was interested in discussing at that point becoming more animated as she paced a bit and then caught herself doing it before she stopped; looking to Nathan who was checking out the small scanner she had given him. ?I take it that this only gathers the information and nothing else?? ?Correct.? Lucia confirmed. Nathan looked up, ?that?s too bad.? She tilted her head to the side a bit, wondering if he was serious or not. ?If you?re interested in a communicator like mine, I can make you one. It wouldn?t take me very long.? Lucia finally offered. Their discussion was interrupted by a chime indicating she had a message, frowning she paused to take a look and then shake her head at what it said. "They always seem to excel at picking the worst times." She tucked the communicator into her tunic. "Whether or not you help me with the scan, I'd still make you a communicator if you wished it. Just give me a couple of weeks and I'll have one ready for you." "Alright," Nathan replied with his usual grin. "In the mean time it seems that you have other business." "Yes," she replied, not bothering to hide the irritation in her voice. "They enjoy springing sudden assignments on me in addition to my regular schedule." She moved to leave and then stopped and turned back. "I'll send you a message once I have the communicator ready." And then, before she would add something else on that she would regret saying, she left.

Speaking of pictures... Or in this case avatars, specifically Sabrina's. The rest of us Beth, after discussing it a bit, have decided that the saying on that doesn't really fit Sabrina at all. Now Lucia on the other hand... She just doesn't see people or other Reapers at all unless there is a compelling reason for her to talk to them. About the only thing I can get out of her is a few moments where she wonders if not being more social is an issue, but it never lasts long. Anyway, I really need to finish up the post I'm working on so we can decide what else we'd like to do or if we want to start moving into some of the time jumps we discussed via AIM a while back. *wanders off to start working on her post*

Every time I hear the debate over Gay marriage the first sarcastic thought that crosses my mind is "OMG it's the end of the world!" And then tomorrow still happens, life goes on and nothing really changed at all, so the big fuss is really just that, a silly fuss over nothing. Why people care who someone else is married to never made any sense to me and still doesn't. I mean, so what if they are the same gender... Seriously. Personally I think the days of dictating to others who they can't marry is long over and people need to quit fighting over it.

I may try out his Landover series, but unless anyone tells me otherwise, I'm not planning on high expectations. It's so outright simple in comparison to his Shannara series. Or less wordy, but it can also be a bit too simplistic too. Now as for Mercedes Lackey here's the order you'd want to follow with her books. She didn't help matters by not writing them in sequence. The Mage Wars: The Black Gryphon · The White Gryphon · The Silver Gryphon The Last Herald-Mage: Magic's Pawn · Magic's Promise · Magic's Price The Legend of Lavan Firestorm: Brightly Burning Vows and Honor: The Oathbound · Oathbreakers · Oathblood Heralds of Valdemar: Exile's Honor · Exile's Valor · Take a Thief · Arrows of the Queen · Arrow's Flight · Arrow's Fall Kerowyn's Tale: By the Sword The Mage Winds: Winds of Fate · Winds of Change · Winds of Fury The Mage Storms: Storm Warning · Storm Rising · Storm Breaking The Owl Mage: Owlflight · Owlsight · Owlknight Good for you that all of those are out so when she wrote them is now irrelevant. :p

1. If you believe in God, why do you believe? I don't. 2. Why do you think others believe in God? I can't presume to know what others think, but I imagine it's a combination of wanting to think there is more than the short lives we have. As Rach mentioned, I've run into people who are literally terrified over the notion that there is nothing after death. So it seems that their belief in God is merely something to still that fear. 3. The most popular conflict between faith and reason is usually on the evolution/creationism controversy. What?s your take on the issue? Can science be compatible with belief? Do you accept evolutionary theory? I tend to believe more in evolution than I do creationism. I honestly don't know enough on both subjects to fully say one way or the other, however, if I don't believe in God, that kind of makes believing in creationism problematic. 4. What do you think are the most compelling arguments to not believe in God? Or, what do you think are the greatest challenges to peoples? faith. for instance; some people think the existence of evil, in light of an all-powerful, all-good God, is a tough question that theologians don?t have a clear answer to and may lead people to non-belief Inability to actually prove such a being exists. I questioned that all the time when I was a child and the only tangible answer I ever got back was that it was my lack of faith that was the problem... That's not good enough for me, I want more. Ironically I have no issue with the concept of evil disproving something like God. However that ties into the Mormon beliefs that I was raised with [though I no longer follow that faith] since in that belief the concept that you have to make your own choices, good or bad, is something I agree with regardless of religion. 5. Do you think there is such thing as ?reasonable faith?? Or, do you think they are in conflict? I'd need to know more about this before I could give an opinion on it. 6. Lastly, if you believe in God. What evidence do you have in favor of your belief? Since I don't believe... this doesn't really apply.

I do occasionally vote for Republican leaders, but not very often. But like Rach just said, Utah is so Republican that it makes being a Democrat a waste of time and getting into debates over why you don't go with the majority is more headache than it's worth.
And as for the acclaimed target audience, Beth, I know you must be aware that Harry Potter & co. grow up in the books all the way to the year they turn 18. Guess what? The target audience gets older at the same rate. Sure, the first few books were very childish, because they were from the p-o-v of a 11 to 13 year old. After that, the series got progressively mature, and in the last book, there's hardly any trace of the magical candy cotton world of the first books. And Harry Potter has enhanced other reading in Finland as well, especially for boys. And that is never a bad thing. For Matt's consolence I have to say that most of the kids (and adults) who've started reading Harry Potter have moved on to other books as well.
I'd like to point out that at this point, we are pretty much hijacking this thread with a debate that could be better put elsewhere. As Allamorph said I am no longer her target audience. I find your insistence to defend the books simply because I do not care for them almost insulting, as if to imply I am missing something when that's not the case. People are going to like different things and all the defending of said things they don't care for won't change that fact. So lets stop this right here. I already got through explaining how it's considered a good series to get kids reading. At this point, even if you disagree, there comes a time when you need to respect that not everyone likes the same thing. You had no purpose in here other than to defend the series when that's not what this thread is about at all. I'm going to say it, grow up and accept that not everyone is in love with the Harry Potter series. Matt had a harsh opinion of it and he's entitled to that opinion. Let it go. Want to know one of the real reasons I tend to not like it? Besides what I already stated? I'm picky when it comes to magic based series and it's the actual world and how things run that I do not care for. Go and read some of Mercedes Lackey's Valdamar series and you'll see what I mean since that's the style of magical world that I enjoy the most. Toss in what I perceive as a book targeted towards a younger audience and my love of Sci - Fi and you get a series that simply doesn't grab me. Please do me the favor of not being like every other fanatical Harry Potter fan and stop attempting to shove it's perceived greatness in my face. I find it boring... so what? You make me sorry I even expressed my opinion because it comes accross as if I'm not allowed to even have it. :animesigh EDIT: Oh and before anyone responds to this... Sandy and I already agreed that we were taking each other too seriously a bit so... nothing to look at! :p
