Those sentences show that you haven't really read the books. They also show how ignorant you are of the millions of fans the books have gathered from all over the world. Not just ten-year-olds, mind you, but adults and even old people who're still connected to the child within them. Since I'm in a relationship with the admin of Finland's largest HP-fansite, I've met hundreds of those people and seen with my own eyes that the fandom isn't going to just fade away in a matter of years.
Since I semi started this whole debate I have something I?d like to point out and that is the average reading comprehension of many countries, the US being my prime example? If you look around at newspapers and the various literatures written to address the public, you?ll find that often the level of reading comprehension attached to it is that of someone who is in grades 7-9. This is to reach the widest audience possible because that is the average reading comprehension of the public. (here in the US) Yes there is stuff that is written on a much more complex level, but the fact remains Harry Potter is written to be understood by grades 4-6. Now given what I?ve just told you, it makes perfect sense that adults are going to like the books, because to be blunt, it fits well within their ability to read. And let?s not get me started on the percentage of people who can?t even read!
Again, just because you don't appreciate something, doesn't mean nobody else does either. You can consider yourself an intellectual for reading "grown-up books" (and that goes to you, Allamorph, as well), but until you realize that people are different, you're really not one. Or if you're just one of those people who assume that everything that is popular must automatically be "uncool", then it's your loss.
Wait? what? No one said that others don?t appreciate the books, where did that assumption come from? Matt, Allamorph and I expressed dissatisfaction with the series in general; we never once said others don?t appreciate it. Nor are we incapable of seeing that others are different. You?re taking our input about the series a bit too personally if you ask me. I can?t speak for the others but I have read the first four books I have seen the first couple of movies, so for me to say it doesn?t draw me in and I find it boring? is perfectly acceptable. I gave it a chance and I just didn?t care for it. I find it ironic that I own the remaining books since I figured I?d get to them and yet that seventh book is still sitting on my bookshelf unread.
Actually, I find it rather an exemplification of the general societal tendency to avoid thought. I am well aware that the general global populace raves over Harry Potter. I also am aware that the general global populace doesn't read much else. Especially much else of value. (^_^)
What I find ironic about that statement, besides the fact that it's completely true, is that many programs designed to instill a love of reading in children are banking in on the popularity of Harry Potter to get kids to actually sit down and read instead of playing computer games and watching TV. It's a well known fact that if you get kids into reading at a young age then they tend to continue that trend. I've done volunteer work to assist reading comprehension of not only kids but adults who can't read. And Harry Potter has become a staple suggestion to get kids and adults to actually start reading. It's used because it is simple, it does hold you by the hand as you progress through the story and that makes it a good lesson in reading comprehension. So all those things that make it boring to me as an adult since I prefer my stories to not be so obviously forward... is what makes it work so well as a tool to promote reading in the first place. Anyway... after all of that I have finally decided on what I am going to read next, and that will be Homer's Daughter by Robert Graves. It's something I was given last year and just never got around to reading.

You'd be better off for it. HP really is a horrible read - predictable characters, stereotypical side characters (I'm looking at you, Malfoy), and a boring villain. All of it is just so mundane, you can only wonder why it is such a success. It's the type of book you would read when you want to not think for a few hours.
The biggest problem I see is that it's something I would have loved when I was between eight and ten years old, but now? It just seems to lack a certain amount of depth. I imagine that's why I get bored so easily with it. I do think the general idea is fun, I just don't care for the execution of it. XP Also, I did put it aside and plan on picking something else to read. I just don't know what yet.

And here I need to get past the Goblet of Fire Sandy... Harry Potter just never struck a cord with me. So though I've seen some of the movies, I got tired of reading the series and never bothered to finish it. I don't know why the series tends to make me apathetic, but it always does. So... that is what I am reading right now, the next one in the series: Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix Sadly, I'm already getting bored with it and I'm not that far into the book. At this rate it's going to take me forever to get to the end of the series. And part of me could care less. I'm tempted to set it aside and find something else to read.

Published author? No. Good with English and grammar? No. Do I write stories on a regular basis? Yes. So by that line of reasoning I consider being an author something that I do as a hobby. Much in the same way I can sing since I've had some training and yet nothing like what Darren can do with the Cello since he is a professional musician. I've often thought I should return to school or at the very least learn more about how to write. For the simple reason that I'm always getting ideas for stories, I've been doing that since I was little, including writing. Though some of those early stories will never see the light of day. XP If anything, it would be be fun to finally learn how to get some of those ideas onto paper in a more tangible format than simple notes.

It was hard to believe that just over seven months had passed since that terrible day, just as it was also very hard to believe that so many changes were being made. The city itself was already falling back into place as most of the terrible damage had been repaired and new buildings built to replace those that had burned to the ground during the disaster. It was not the same and some of the construction was not finished, but it pointed towards a city willing to move on instead of looking back. There were still issues with those who stubbornly held onto the idea that those of their sister city were inferior somehow and realistically, Alecia knew that would take more than a few months to change. If she could somehow pound that notion into their stubborn mindset, she probably would have. Instead she finished up her lunch and went back to doing her work like always. It was becoming harder and harder to keep up as her pregnancy crept ever closer to the approximate date she was due. Alecia made her way to her office since she had altered her schedule to only include morning rounds, she just couldn?t do both anymore, it was too tiring and hard on her back to stay on her feet all day long. But that didn?t mean she couldn?t take care of paperwork during the afternoon until Alexander was done for the day. Technically he was never done since he had so much work that needed to be taken care of. But when it became harder for her, he had delegated some of that work load in order to make sure he was available to take her home each evening. A tiny kick brought a smile to her face as she set the paper work she had in her hands down. She was hit by another twinge of something else altogether, something that was repeated several times and then eventually followed up by a clear indication that she was not imagining things. Oh my, is it time already? Alecia stood up and made her way to her office door. She caught the attention of one of the medical staff passing by. ?It?s time,? She told the woman who instantly moved to help her, after all it was obvious as to what Alecia was referring to. It was impossible to miss that she was clearly pregnant. ?Right this way Lady Almagest,? the woman did not bother to question Alecia?s statement, after all Alecia knew how to tell the difference between false labor and true labor. After seeing her into one of the waiting rooms the woman turned to leave but halted when Alecia caught her hand, causing her to look back. ?Please make sure a message is sent to my husband.? Once the woman nodded, Alecia made herself as comfortable as possible and did her best to simply wait the symptoms out. Someone would be in to tend to her long before they became more urgent.
100
The one thing that Alexander found distasteful when it came to his new duties was the sheer amount of meetings it required. Every day was filled with some sort of meeting, making him miss the days when he simply patrolled the streets. It wouldn?t have been too bad if not for the tendency for things to get dragged out far longer than they really needed. Something that had prompted him to take the stance of ending things whether they were done or not when five o?clock came around, least he miss out on taking Alecia home at the end of her work day. There had been objections at first, but now they were use to it. As he listened to yet another person endlessly drag yet another issue out, the thought crossed his mind to put prioritizing what would be handled and what wouldn?t in the meetings on the agenda. Most of this stuff isn?t even worth wasting our time on when it can be handled efficiently by someone at a more local level. This habit of thinking every little thing has to go to the top is absurd. Alexander knew it was merely what they were use to but still, if they didn?t break things down, they?d never get anything done, ever. A knock at the door interrupted the meeting, something he seized upon to get up and answer the door to the conference room immediately. It was a messenger. ?I?m sorry to bother you sir, but I was told the message was urgent.? He pressed the folded piece of paper into Alexander?s hands. His brow furrowed, Alexander opened it up and then a moment later his eyes went a bit wide at the content. Then with a nervous smile he thrust the paper back into the messenger?s hands. ?Do me a favor and tell the others what that says,? he indicated the rest of the group still waiting in the conference room. Then before anyone could say a word he left, ignoring the weak protests that it wasn?t five o'clock yet.
100

~Eleven hours later?
The hospital staff had finally left, leaving the three all alone in the small room. The newest addition to the Almagest clan finally sleeping, carefully wrapped up in a blanket, lying in a special little bed next to the one Alecia was in. Alecia herself was not that far behind as she struggled to stay awake, tired from the whole ordeal. ?The others, how many of them are still here?? She asked Alexander sleepily. It was two in the morning after all. ?I?m not sure. Did you want me to go and get them?? Alecia shook her head, ?No, little Daedalus Thomas only just fell asleep, they can come back in the morning.? She yawned a bit before closing her eyes, ?Make that late morning.? Alecia shifted a bit in an effort to get more comfortable. Alexander chuckled and got up from the chair he had been sitting in next to the bed, he bent over and kissed her on the forehead before responding. ?I?ll go and tell them love.? Alecia?s responded with a tired smile and then drifted into sleep. She did not hear the sound of the door to the room opening and closing when Alexander left, nor did she hear him return and take a moment to go to the other side of the bed and check on the baby before he finally took a seat next to her bed once again.

How do I got about changing my OB site name

William ended the transmission with Kiva, he had no immediate assignment for her just yet as he was waiting on some information he needed first. Considering all that she had done he figured she could do with a tiny bit of downtime before being sent elsewhere. What was more important was having the genetics researcher Tessa take a look at the message that Darren Anderson had finally pieced back together. He only hoped the wait for what was in that was worth it, otherwise, delaying the release of the contents of the third project in sector fourteen could backfire. ?Sir,? William gave his attention to his second in command. ?The transfer of the prisoner Commander Jared Scorer is complete, he?s in holding cell number three. Should I have him prepped for interrogation?? ?No, leave him where he is until further notice.? ?Yes sir.? William could hear the confusion in his voice and ignored it. He had already made preparations upon first hearing that Jared had been captured. Or rather he had called someone else in to take care of it. The decision had not been an easy one to make and though it had been agreed upon, it would still take them time to arrive in sector nine. There was no point in wasting his time and energy attempting to force the information out of Jared. It was no secret that part of what made Jared such an excellent interrogator was that he himself had spent years being at the receiving end of such treatment. Instead of breaking as others would have, he had instead patiently waited for the moment to turn the tables on his tormentor, killing him. William would not do it, for someone to have such resolve as a child? Normal methods would be pointless and he could not afford to spend so much time away from overseeing the current war in a futile endeavor. He would wait for the one he had called in to arrive, if anyone possessed the ability to force Jared to surrender what information he knew, it would be the person he had called in just for the job. It was more important to decide what to do about Valencia and Cassandra. That was an interesting mess that he needed to deal with, but at the same time the question was how to do so without creating an unnecessary stir. One of these days, things are going to go smoothly without any mix-ups. William wasn?t going to hold his breath in anticipation of such a rare event though. ----------------------------------------- Celestia had done it; the hyperspace program had been altered and was set to trigger the collapse of the distortion shields keeping the powerful crystals running the Creator from reacting with those that were kept in storage onboard. All of the special shields on the ship would go down at the same time, something that if the timing was right would drag the fleet out of hyperspace and possibly result in permanent damage to the crystals themselves. If not for the computer exploit she had found earlier it would not have been possible, her access to such sensitive programs was restricted and she could only hope that in the confusion they would not think to look in her direction. If they did, it would take very little to get it out of her; she had no illusions over her ability to resist interrogation. Unlike true Versilan?s she lacked the ability to resist the truth drugs that they would use. Celestia had said nothing to Jason, carefully working out what was needed in her head, slipping in bits of the program at stolen intervals when no one was watching. Without the ability to test the program, it was possible that it would fail and nothing would happen at all. She would try just the same. It can?t fail, it just can?t! It would be her only chance to do something meaningful for the war effort. She wouldn?t get another one, not after this, even if by some miracle they didn?t suspect her, the heightened security would make it impossible. Celestia carefully watched the time, waiting for the moment when the program would work or not, trying to stay calm and work on what she and Jason were supposed to be doing. It was one of the hardest things she had ever done, even more so when the newest Commander, Drace showed up as he often did, checking on the different sections of the Creator. It felt like an eternity as the Commander along with his nervous assistant Pheonia Roth stayed in the area. Why are they sticking around? If he?s here when the program runs? It took every bit of willpower Celestia possessed to not panic. But the closer the time came, the more nervous she became until finally, she did the only thing she could think of. Swiftly she pulled up the exploit and forged an order, sending it out and then exiting the program immediately. Only moments later she heard the sound of the Commander walking among the terminals, taking in what the various technicians were up to. Don?t look, she thought frantically. Act as if he?s not there!

Oh, and to SunfallE, I actually do have the remake of Lunar for the GBA and I thought that it was very nicely done. It would be pretty cool if they remade Lunar 2 for the DS with extra content. I know I'd sucker in the money for it.
Same here, I'd snatch that up in a heat beat. I just adore the Lunar series, as if my signature didn't give that away on some level since I used characters from each game for a banner for a different rpg. Heh. I'd also love to see a remake of some older classics like Secret of Evermore or Illusion of Gaia. I still have those games and even pull them out to play from time to time. I'd even be satisfied with a version for the DS though I'd prefer something more substantial of course.

I know that there was a game made for the Nintendo DS called Lunar: Dragon Song, but at the time I did not own a DS and it seemed from what I read that it didn't really have much to do with the older games anyway. Maybe someone can fill me in?
We could definitely use a new Lunar game. I adore this series since it's so wonderfully done. I have no interest in buying a PS3 or Xbox360 but if they made a new Lunar game for it... I'd end up buying the system just so I could play the game. XP Also, the game Lunar: Dragon Song, though interesting, didn't really live up to the name. There is another one for gameboy advance called Lunar Legend. It's just another version of Lunar Silver Star Story, but the small variations in the storyline make it fun to play. :catgirl: Plus you can get a used one through a seller at Amazon for about $10. If you really like the game, it's worth getting.

That's kinda weird. I actually always considered diet soda to taste sweeter than regular. Maybe it's just a different type of sweet I'm getting. Anyway, I'm personally not a fan of diet soda. Don't know why. Probably has something to do with the whole childhood "good for you=bad taste" thing (though oddly enough, I can never get enough milk.) I've just never been fond of the taste. Besides, diet soda uses aspartame. I'd rather be fat than have cancer.:p
You're probably thinking of the newest one out that's called Splenda, that has a sweet taste that I find a bit sickening. It tastes quite a bit sweeter than aspartame. Also, I suppose I should mention that I have issues with being hypoglycemic, and regular sugar is something that takes very little to make me sick. So though I do like deserts or candy from time to time, if I want to have soda, it's diet or no deal. I can't stand regular and it takes very little of it to make me sick. Processed/refined sugar and I do not get along, at all. So I don't drink regular soda, period. Also, if I really want an energy boost it's herbal tea or a healthy protein shake. Both work far better than stimulants like caffeine and are a whole lot healthier. Soda is something that I like but don't really need.
Actually, diet soda gives you stomach ulcers.(did I spell that correctly?) It's not very good for you at all. So it's bad for you and tastes like sand.:animesigh
You might want to actually read up on it before you declare the dangers. ^_~ A lot of the concerns surrounding it, like many things we consume without thinking about it, have the dangers exaggerated to make them seem more dangerous than they really are. So, the caffeine fix I get comes from soda, like diet Coke or diet Dr. Pepper -- diet because the syrup for regular soda leaves a nasty taste that I don't like. Though maybe that's why I don't like sugar in coffee either, I've never liked my drinks to have a strong sweet taste to them. Sugar shock is not something that I enjoy. My routine always starts with pm's, staff business if there is any and then the Lounge followed by the Information Kiosk, since posts relating to theOtaku get posted there and I moderate for that site too. Raiha: Your poem is fun in that it seems to be hovering between being a satire and serious, not quite touching either line completely. Allamorph: Not only do I like the variation Support Raiha Queen of Death (I seriously laughed out loud upon realizing what that said) I like how the entire poem ties into that, most notably with the part: She has probably buried you once already, along with many others at your request. indifference: I like the variation you used as it really suits your opponent really well.
