I remember once when my brakes were going out. Only I got no warning, I was going down a hill, hit the brakes and had a lovely moment of free-fall when I pushed down and nothing happened, at all. Luckily a few seconds later they came back... so I drove to the closest mechanic and had them fixed on the spot. That's something I never want to repeat. Heh.

The Substance Thread: Substance-Induced Thoughts [M (for Mature)]
SunfallE replied to Mr. Maul's topic in General Discussion
Since this thread is for current thoughts while one is actually under the influence, I moved the most recent post to here: post -
You've misunderstood my intent CaNz as the others have pointed out. Mentioning that most towns have disaster plans, among other things, wasn't meant to mock you but rather to point out why the idea you presented was flawed. That's what the backstage thread is for, to put an idea out so others can jump in and either add to it or point out what you've missed. It's certainly not meant as mockery but simply as my input based on what had been brought up already. I would certainly expect you to do the same if I suggested something and you noticed that either my idea was missing something or had it's own flaws.

If I Were Human... Lucia hated it when Karl was right. She wanted to object but once again, she couldn?t. So she simply agreed with him even though it galled her to do so. What else could she do? The last thing she wanted to do was alert the vampires as to where they were living. She already knew she wasn't prepared to face them. She sighed resignedly. Was there nothing she did that was actually correct? It seemed like every time she turned around there was something new that she was doing wrong. Karl?s rather smug look didn?t help either. She knew it was childish but she wanted nothing more than to box his ears for it. ?I?m sorry Lucia.? Ruby?s voice interrupted her thoughts. Puzzled, she looked at her and then wondered why Ruby looked so despondent. ?Why are you apologizing? It?s not your fault.? She sighed again as she followed behind Karl. ?He?s right; it does make us stand out. I should have seen that.? ?I?m sorry because I should have realized it too.? Ruby explained contritely. ?I never thought about it either. I could have insisted that I stay invisible to the humans like the others do.? ?There?s nothing we can do about it now, so don't be so hard on yourself. We?ll just be more careful from now on. Okay?? Lucia soothed her. Though she had thought they already were being cautious. How could she have missed something so obvious? That bothered her more than anything. What if she had other habits that made her stand out? Just thinking about it was enough to give her a headache. If she were human, she was positive that she would have one already. ?Well there is a bright side to it.? Ruby said. ?You won?t have to keep explaining or insisting that they let me in when you go to work.? ?True.? Lucia agreed. ?That will make it easier this time.? ?Oh? So you accepted the assignment to do contract work for a new place?? ?Yeah, I talked to my contact about it while you were visiting Alex and Nall the other day.? Lucia answered her. ?I thought you were going to wait a bit before taking any assignments.? Lucia shrugged. ?That was the plan, but this job is too good to pass up.? She followed Karl down as he landed on the ground. She frowned when she realized that Isen was in the area, again. It didn't make any sense to her why she was hanging about in the distance and observing the training. ?Has she nothing better to do than watch you train me?? Lucia demanded crossly. Karl just smirked slightly. ?Why don?t you ask her?? Lucia folded her arms across her chest and fixed Karl with a slight glare. ?I figured you would know why she started doing that the past few days.? ?The past few days?? Karl?s eyebrow shot up. ?She?s been doing that since we started.? He shook his head slightly. ?I?m going to have to work on your observation skills if it took you that long to notice.? Lucia stiffened in irritation. For the love of... How had she missed that Isen had been around? She resisted the urge to swear.

Oh I don't know James. I think the complaint that putting something out there so the general public actually has time to read if they so wish, isn't unreasonable. By giving so little time before the actual vote, it's basically forcing people to rely on other outlets like the news or summaries online. Most working people simply do not have time to read much beyond that. I simply do not agree with the idea that telling the public, or anyone for that matter, to just suck it up and read it in such a short time, is in anyway fair. I see that kind of mentality and attitude very egoistical and downright annoying to deal with when I'm trying to understand politics. :/

i did not know that, i thought it was general consensus that the league was in charge, really the rebellion would not even be rebelling, they'd be preserving, the league is more like a rebellion then...
Says right in the sign up that the League decided to step in and take charge since the champion is absent. So though they are in charge, it's recent and they're moving to subdue those who object to it.
well. would anyone really guard the shelters if people went to them? would the publc recognize the "rebellion" if they said an attack is coming and follow their directions? maybe it would be smarter to tell them to stay inside and dhave an exit planned in case anything happens.
Other than a token force, the idea would be to defend the borders of the actual town I would think. I'm sure the concept of stay put and out of harms way isn't hard to grasp. I think most parents with kids would insist on it. So staying in one's homes or not organizing into designated shelters which, by the way, most towns already have in case of a natural disaster, would be foolish. So they wouldn't even have to figure that part out. There would already be schools or locations that are deemed shelters if needed. If you know you're about to be attacked by an army large enough to surround the city your in, you'd be pretty foolish to leave people in their homes. The absolute chaos of trying to organize them if the opportunity came for evacuation, would be horrendous. Which leads me back to my first suggestion. I think they're in shelters already with small groups or teams designated to keep an eye on them and help with evacuation if needed. Though at this point, that's likely to be to another designated shelter if the fighting got to close instead of out of the city. At least that's what I think.

I am not entirely sure what's going on with the civilians in Ecruteak. I don't know how much of them were evacuated and where, or even if there was the chance for an evacuation at all. They could be safe somewhere at Morty's discretion, they could be SMACK DAAAAB in the middle of this thing.
Considering that they had all of perhaps one night to prepare, I would imagine that unless Morty had a sure way to get them out of there, most of them are still in the town. From the posts so far I get the impression that they were rushing to prepare with what little warning they had. The way I see it is that if (and this is only if) there was a route to send the children and mothers elsewhere, Morty would have probably seen to it. If they were too surrounded, then I would imagine that they would be encouraged to move to the most secure locations possible. So either a group of civilians were evacuated, which is definitely possible, or they're taking shelter in some of the buildings, like a school or something.

Kay then, I didn't know.. so I guess it's just useless to new members?
Not completely. If you sub to someone and they blog on the older myOtaku system it will show up in your backroom as an update. So you'll know when people have posted. And you can log in and comment on their update as well. But to use as a blogging system for yourself, that is correct. That's part of why Worlds was created, the older system simply wasn't capable of expanding and supporting the features that the newer theOtaku can. So worlds make sure that any new members who join will also have blogging options since they can't access the older system. -

It's not going to let you. You only joined the network this week and myOtaku is the older blogging system before Worlds. It's still open so people who were using it before we upgraded to Version Vibrant last year, can still access and use their myOtaku pages. Anyone who joined after the change will be unable to create myOtaku pages since it's no longer connected to the main network in that respect. You can still comment on other people's myOtaku blogs, but that's it. -
I picked up the Guild Wars Trilogy set this month so I'm working through the first one, Prophecies. I find this rather ironic since I've always steered clear of MMO games since I don't want something that requires more than casual play. That and I had no interest in paying monthly fees just to be connected for it. What has made this fun so far is that yes you do need to work with people, but so far there is a lot that you can do without needing to team up with other people. So I like that it's not completely dependent on teaming up. Anyway, I'm enjoying it enough that I started a second character over the weekend.

I?m Not Asleep? Lucia quickly took care of her only assignment for the day, a middle aged businessman who had been in a lethal car crash. It had been both amusing and slightly annoying when he attempted to bargain with her in order to remain on Earth. She had wondered briefly what he would think of the next phase since it was nothing like he expected. The passing thought was lost as she hurried back to her place. Tired or not, she only had so much time for herself now and she couldn?t afford to waste a single minute. At least Karl either wandered off just out of sight or kept out of her way when she worked in her lab. He didn?t bother her with pointless questions or interrupt her when she was doing something either. A trait she could appreciate since she was already greatly annoyed with losing so much time to training. To lose even more of what little free time she had, would have been too much. It pained her, after a while, to realize that she couldn?t seriously object anymore. She felt like a fool when Karl explained why human limitations prevented them from being able to effectively train her. What she had learned was useful, but flawed. Humans simply couldn?t keep up with a Shinigami. As a familiar, Karl could, and she could no more keep up with him than anything. From basic hand to hand combat, to working with her scythe to attempting to predict and counter a foe?s moves? by the time they were done each day, she was so weary it was all she could do to stay awake. She wanted nothing more than to curl up and sleep and yet Karl seemed unaffected by it. It was slightly maddening. Lucia knew she had a lot to learn, but she hadn?t realized just how profound that gap really was until now. Even if she was doing her best, even if she tried her hardest to keep up, she just couldn?t. And unlike the humans, if she messed up by falling back on what Karl had told her she had to unlearn, he would take advantage of that mistake to send her flying. Lucia knew he was holding back, but it was still humiliating to realize just how weak she really was. No human had ever been able to land a serious blow on her. Karl did it as if it was as easy as breathing. He never hit hard enough to seriously hurt her, but it still made her aggravated. Bit by bit, with each session, her hopes for finishing the training quickly was shattered. ?You?re such a dork Lucia.? Ruby?s mocking voice surrounded her. ?I told you that you needed real training, but you refused to listen.? Startled, Lucia whirled around, but the main room was empty. ?You never listen to anyone.? Ruby?s voice continued. ?All you do is whine about being forced to be a Shinigami, you?re always thinking about yourself and no one else.? Puzzled, Lucia looked for Ruby. She couldn?t feel her aura? where is she? ?You don?t even care if the others die, do you? Your work is more important than your friends.? ?What are you talking about Ruby?? She stood up, angry at the accusation. ?I am frustrated, but why would I ask for more training if I didn?t care?? ?Lucia.? ?What.? She replied shortly, irritated. ?Lucia!? ?WHAT?? She demanded crossly. ?And dammit Ruby! Why are you hiding from me?? ?Lucia, Lucia, Lucia.? Ruby?s voice echoed around the room. Everything began to spin and with a start, Lucia found herself sitting in one of the plush chairs in her place. What the hell? D...did I fall asleep? She looked at the crystal communicator that was resting in her lap. She had been working on something when she sat down. Lucia picked it back up; she turned it on only to see that she had been asleep for two hours. She didn?t even remember falling asleep. With a groan she turned it back off. She had less than an hour before the next training session. She looked over at the red dragon that was curled up in her own chair, fast asleep. Lucia smiled slightly. She should have known it was a dream; Ruby never took that tone of voice with her. She stood up and walked over to where Ruby was. With another smile she reached down and gently scratched her ears, smiling even more when Ruby stretched in her sleep in response to the caress. Then she turned and walked over to her desk. She didn?t have enough time to much research, but she did have enough to quickly check her programs that were hunting for information.

Allen was poring over the schedule for when the next bullet train for Blackthorn City was scheduled to leave as he slowly walked through Goldenrod. Trusting in Tess’s sense of direction he paid little attention to his surroundings. They had been to Maya’s before and it was unlikely that Tess would ever get lost. “Even if we found her in the next five minutes, we’d never get down there in time. We’ll have to catch the next one.” He sighed. “I should have gotten up earlier. Knowing my luck, Dad or Mom will think to check there.” He tucked the schedule back into his pocket. “I wonder if she’s already had breakfast,” Allan asked Tess. “We could always wait in one of the cafés near the station until the very last minute.” “I already ate.” A voice just in front of him said. Startled, Allan looked up. Maya was standing on the sidewalk, just over ten feet away. Her eyebrow shot up as she looked at him. “Oh, uh…” He faltered, unsure what to say. "Good morning Maya." He finally managed. She nodded in response. “I assume you got the order to report to Blackthorn City?” “Yes.” Maya glanced at the duffle bag he was carrying. “You have everything you need?” Allan nodded. “Let’s get going then.” She turned to head back in the same direction she had just come from. Relieved to finally be heading out he walked alongside Maya. They hadn’t gone more than half a block when she suddenly turned and headed into a fairly empty parking lot. “Uh…” Allan stopped; Maya did as well and turned back around to face him. “Isn’t the train station in that direction?” He gestured to the left. “I wasn’t planning on taking the train.” She gave him a curious look. “Why would I waste money on a train ticket?” “You’re planning on walking?” Allan’s eyebrows shot up. Maya looked like she was holding back laughter as she reached for her belt and retrieved one of her balls. “Of course not." She grinned as she called one of her companions forth. "Time for some fresh air Gyarados!” Startled, Allan took a step back as the huge blue serpent came out of its home and then hovered in midair to the side of Maya. At nearly twenty five feet long and easily six hundred pounds, if not more, the great serpent was both intimidating and impressive. Wait… she doesn’t mean… “You ready to head back home?” Maya was talking to her Pokémon. “We have a guest with us this time. You don’t mind do you?” Allan had no idea what the sounds it was making in return meant, but Maya seemed to take it as a yes. She made sure her stuff was securely fastened and then nimbly climbed up on the back of the Gyarados. “What are you waiting for?” She frowned slightly at Allan who was still standing there. “It’s alright, carrying two people is easy. You’ll want to get your companion to ride in their ball though.” “Uh… right.” Allan looked at the massive serpent again and then back to Maya. Lovely, she really is serious about this. “You’re not afraid of heights are you?” Maya asked when he continued to hesitate. Allan flushed slightly. “No.” He shot back stiffly. At least he didn’t think he was. He went to fetch the ball from his pouch. “I hope you don’t mind Tess.” She nuzzled his hand to indicate that she didn’t before returning to her ball. Allan secured it in his pouch and then fixed the duffle bag strap so it was across his chest with the bag resting against his back. Then at Maya’s guidance, he scrambled on back of the large serpent. Once Maya was satisfied that he was situated, with a grin and a warning to hang on, she gave the word for the creature to take off.

Homeless sex offenders directed to woods
SunfallE replied to Rachmaninoff's topic in General Discussion
I've no idea if there is any current legislation to lighten up the laws in regards to what could get you placed on the registery, Allamorph. I still think what Indi said here fits it the best:
The problem is that assuming someone on the Sex Offender Registry must be dangerous, is far from accurate. Plenty of people are on there for stupid choices they made instead of being individuals who are truly dangerous to society. Either way, it's still not an effective solution at all. [/COLOR']
This would be my main concern. Even so, turning someone, as Nerdsy put it "into tree-folk" isn't an effective solution at all. So based on the poll choices I'm leaning towards both one and three. Help direct them to proper housing and lighten up the laws for those who aren't a danger to society. -

However for the person I mentioned they said that they actually did report it and "nothing was done" so that was the end for them. I can only go on what I observed myself and was told perhaps there was more to it.
If it's still up, then it's for one of the following reasons:

No proof provided (which is fairly common)
The proof was unrelated (I do see this a lot, links to stuff that has nothing to do with it)
They were mistaken and it's not stolen (just like I explained in the link Allamorph provided in his post)

I know as mods you are human and no system is perfect I by no means aim to label you all as useless and a like. It just seemed like more could be done in certain areas however if everyone is doing the best they can then that is fine and it cannot be helped. The other members will simply have to report the plagiarism and hope its dealt with accordingly.
Oh I know you're not trying to imply that moderators are useless, but it there is a lot more to it than people think about, mainly since they aren't responsible for dealing with complaints so they honestly don't know what's involved in the process. See, the thing is, when someone tells me that it seems like more could be done, they never come forth with just what could actually be done. Naturally it's not so simple since you don't know what we already do, but at the same time, it's feedback that isn't very useful since saying "it seems like more could be done" doesn't let me know if someone feels like something isn't being covered. If there is something that you feel isn't being covered then by all means feel free to send me a pm and I can try and clarify it for you. If it helps, the basic rundown goes as follows. We have regular moderators who check the daily submissions, they look for repeat items and stuff that is in the wrong category. If they see something they believe is stolen, they report it and I take care of it. If I see something that I know is stolen, I take care of it. On top of that, I also review each report made by members and take any action if warranted. Naturally members aren't going to see just how much work is done each day to deal with mistakes and plagiarism issues. So even if it might appear nothing is being done or not enough, we do have a dedicated crew that checks things regularly.

So it was finally time to leave Goldenrod City. That was fine by Allan; it would mean his parents wouldn?t be able to keep dropping by in an attempt to persuade him from leaving the group who disagreed with the League. Now if it would only cool off, how was he to do anything when the air was so oppressive that he couldn?t breathe? wait? it doesn?t get that hot here. With a start his eyes opened only to see nothing but fur. ?Gah!? He exclaimed in surprise, brushing the bushy tail out of his face. With a soft chattering noise, his Furret?s version of laughter, it nimbly scrambled off the bed. For a long moment it sat on its hind legs, poised in a position of attention as it watched Allan, making sure he was actually getting up. ?I?m awake, I?m awake!? Allan forced himself to sit up. ?See?? A comment that just made his companion laugh at him some more before letting itself back into its Pokeball. With a groan he got out of bed and wandered off to get dressed. It was better to get ready and go and find Maya, before either of his parents showed up. He had been wrong to think that moving out into an apartment would make a difference. Every chance they got, especially his mother, they would pester him about coming back home and dropping this foolish notion of his. ?Let?s see,? he glanced though his closet. ?There?s no way I?ll be able to fit everything in a single bag. I should have left most of it at home.? He opted for a second set of boots and several changes of clothing. There was just enough room to stuff the spare supplies he had for his Pokémon into the duffle bag. He could always pick up anything else he might need later on, if necessary. ?Ready to head out?? He asked Tess, his Jolteon, as he called her forth. She looked to the door and gave off a small whine. ?What?s wrong?? He turned at the sound of someone knocking at the door. ?Oh, I see.? He sighed. ?It?s them isn?t it?? Tess let off another little whine. ?Lovely, I guess it was too much to hope I?d manage to leave without running into one of them.? He picked up the small pouch that held the Pokeballs and fastened it around his waist before picking up the large duffle bag, the strap digging into his shoulder a bit. Time to get this over with, he thought as he answered the door. A tall, dark haired man with streaks of gray at his temples was standing there, he glanced down at the bag Allan was carrying and frowned. ?Don?t you think it?s time you gave up this charade?? Allan?s father asked him. Allan closed the door. ?It?s no charade Dad. I thought you understood that when you gave me that Dragonair. I?m not going to change my mind.? ?Listen son, you?re not thinking clearly.? He attempted to persuade him, following along as Allan moved to take one of the elevators. ?How do you expect to take care of yourself? You don?t even have a job and it goes without saying that I will not help you with this.? Allan smiled sardonically, ?I haven?t asked you for any you know.? ?Allan, I?m serious. Where are you heading to?? He scowled as the doors to the elevator shut and the car began its decent to the first floor. ?You honestly don?t expect me to answer that do you?? Allan?s eyebrow shot up. ?The last thing I need is one of your business friends hounding me non-stop to give up and come back home.? The elevator came to a halt, the doors opened and Allan stepped out. ?Anyway, say hi to Mom if you don?t mind. I don?t know when I?ll be back.? ?You?re making a mistake.? Allan ignored the jab as he exited the building; he waited patiently for Tess and then practically bolted down the steps. Once he was sure his Dad was out of sight, he?d head for where Maya was staying. The sooner he got out of Goldenrod City, the better.
