Though I like the idea of sailing the sea and searching for treasure, I?d rather be able to defend myself and be able to use all of the stealthy and sneaky skills that a ninja possesses.Nothing like giving a would be muigger the shock of their lives when you clober them.
However, if we were talking Han Solo-type space pirates, then I'd be all over that.
Now if we are talking about space pirates, that?s another story altogether. I?d much rather be a space pirate than a space ninja.

The best way to get it taken care of is to report the stolen art by using the report button located under the actual image itself. It?s important to include the details, like the link you provided to your Deviant Art account showing that you had the picture posted there and that you did not give the person permission to use your wallpaper. Without verification the report will just be closed with no action taken, so be sure to include any appropriate links or other material that proves the wallpaper was made by you.Once you've done that, I (or another moderator) will review the report and remove the stolen wallpaper.
For those of you who asked about this, I'll answer it as simple as I can. I work for a internet game community for teens around the world. Each Country (Hotel) has their own moderation team, who are to send in a report about serious offenders against our game rules. I am to go over the reports, and this one report happened to catch my eye. I hope that is what you were asking.Sorry if I made it out to sound like a "Earth shattering event", for those were not my intentions at all. I simply wanted to bring up that the fact that people making fun of Mormons is starting to become more and more popular.
Ah, that explains a lot. I live in Provo, Utah and I was a bit confused since I didn't recall seeing anything that fit what you had mentioned. So long as it's not a case of being excluded due to being Mormon and just a case of tasteless jokes, I wouldn't worry too much. It's unfortunate but there will always been people who poke fun at others and if it's not over their religion, they'll just find something else. If it is a case of harassment, then I assume you can report them to the appropriate person in the Internet game? It's one thing to make a tasteless joke but if they are constantly bothering say you or another member since they are Mormon, at that point they might need a reminder that harassing other members isn't a good idea.

Welcome to OtakuBoards Takanutsu, Please be aware that we have a rules page that all members are required to read before posting. These Rules and FAQ can be found on the left navigation menu and the Otaku Lounge Rules are pinned at the top of the forum. You can also use the underlined links I have just provided. I will be closing this thread since the purpose of your game is to encourage other members to list people they wish were dead or banned. It may seem like harmless fun, but since it encourages flaming among members it doesn?t fit as we encourage members to be respectful towards one another. Once you're re-read the rules this will make more sense. If you have any questions feel free to pm myself or another member of the staff. ~SunfallE Thread Closed

I was just at work going over some major problems we have in-game. I was sitting at my desk and drinking a delicious Blended Vanilla Bean from Starbucks (^_^). Then I came across this one report, which made me very, VERY, upset. "Mormons are *******, all they do is dress up in these ugly suits, and ride around on bicycles! And on top of that they have like 500 wives!"
Perhaps you could explain what this report is that you are referring to?
And why must everyone pick on the religion? Seriously, isn't there someone else that can get fired upon all the time?
Others have already mentioned that pretty much any religion is made fun of. And since Mormon?s have been around for a much shorter time frame, well it?s pretty obvious that other groups have been picked on far more than Mormons.
Even on Late Night shows (Jay Leno, David Letterman) are starting to take aim at my religion. It's not funny, and not fair. I mean, God forbid someone makes a crack on a Catholic (no offence people, really). The whole church would go crazy and the person who said it will go under fire.
As for shows just starting to make fun of Mormonism? They?ve been doing that for as long as I can remember. It may seem recent, but Mormon?s have been made fun of from the very beginning. And besides, since when was being made fun of fair? And last time I checked Catholics get made fun of all the time.
And as I know it, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints does not practice polygamy anymore. Yet, there is this one show on HBO called "Big Love" about some Mormons in SLC, Utah. I think the main character has like two wives and 10 children or whatever.
Of course they don?t, the federal government made it very clear that polygamy was not acceptable so naturally the church discontinued that practice. Not that I care about that anyway, unless it?s with a minor who isn?t old enough to consent to being married to a man more than twice her age. What?s really ironic about the show Big Love is that until some Mormon?s got upset and started circulating petitions in attempt to shut the show down, it was getting terrible ratings. What made it stupid is that many of the people who signed the petitions had never even seen the show. They just assumed the show was bad. And yes I?ve seen it; it?s actually kind of funny in that it pokes fun at polygamy in general. Yes there are references that make it clear that they used the Mormon Church as a model when making the show, but unless you are a Mormon, you wouldn?t catch it.
What do you think about Mormonism always under fire?
The same thing I think for all religions, it?s pointless to get upset over someone making fun of it. It?s not going to change and do you really care what others think? They haven?t even got their facts straight so who cares?
For those of you who ARE Mormon, do you find shows like these offensive?
For someone who, many years ago, was Mormon , (and in case you are confused I no longer belong to any religion) I find nothing offensive about the shows or over being made fun of. I think part of the problem here is that most Mormon?s don?t take the time to learn what others have been told about them. The LDS/Mormon Church is infamous for keeping their members as ignorant as possible. If you want to understand what I am referring to just pick up a copy of An Insider?s View of Mormon Origins by Grant H. Palmer. In a nutshell, much of what Mormon?s take for granted as literal history has been tailored over the years, slightly modified, added to, one aspect emphasized over another, to the point that the original narratives have been nearly lost. In other words, the rest of the world has known from the beginning that many things the Mormon?s teach as truth is in fact not the truth. And the Church?s response? They ex-communicated the author for daring to tell the historical truth.
And finally, do you think if other religions such at Catholicism, were to be made fun of, would they be very upset and make a big deal about it?
We already covered this, and though they might find it annoying I?ve yet to see the Catholic or other religions get all worked up over being made fun of. In summary, I wouldn?t worry over it, there?s really no way to force others to not make fun of something.

While the original poster of this thread may not be around I know that the rest of you are. And on some level I want to kick myself for never commenting on this game. I have both games, though the second disk to my Silver Star copy was stolen so I?ve never gotten to finish it. But Lunar 2 Eternal Blue is one of my absolute favorite games of all times, well other than Zelda that is. ^_^ I love the characters and even though it?s done in an older style I love the game play as well. It does require taking the time to level up but it?s well worth it to make the story progress. It?s great how there is well over an hour?s worth of anime cut scenes woven into the story as it keeps it from being a never ending run of battles. It?s also fun to run around in each and every town taking to the NPC characters as you?ll run into all sorts of funny stuff. The same goes for trying to read books on the shelves. I love how they took the time to make exploring the town and talking to people a fun part of the game.
I only played and own the second one Eternal Blue and it was really hard. Once I got into the castle (you know where he sees the light) and got to the top floor I quit lol its actually a really hard game for being so old. You noticed as games get older they get easier? Games back in the day were so hard, its good for me that there easy cause i suck, but geesh it was hard for me. I read up on the story since I couldnt really finish it. I liked Hiro and the guy with the horn in his head. Thought he was cool, reminds me of Kimahri except without speaking in third person (Kimahri loves Yuna. Kimahri love Sushi) Lucia is also especially pretty. I wish I could talk more about the story, but i dont know much about it :( if someone could fill me in more that would be great. I've always wanted to know what happens ^^ [/SIZE']
It?s actually not that bad, it just requires spending a little extra time leveling up to get further into the game. Using your techniques or spells is a must, otherwise you just get clobbered on a regular basis. Ah yes, the guy with the horn, Leo. He?s such a fun character though like you said he doesn?t speak in the third person mode. It?s a spoiler but later on in the game Leo
ends up in your party when you go after the main boss of the game.
As for a brief description of the story, well basically an ancient evil
Zophar
has been
awakened
and Lucia has come to
meet with the goddess Althena to stop him.
But before she can do that
Zophar attacks her and strips her of her power and curses her.
So you spend the whole game helping
Lucia on her quest to meet with Althena in order to destroy Zophar.
Another fun aspect of the game is that once you?ve beaten it, there is another storyline to complete so you get to start playing it again from the prospective of after things have been settled so to speak. It's worth finishing this quest just to unlock more of the anime cut scenes. ^_^

Just something else to add that I was thinking about, which goes along with the idea of leaving honorifics out. Even though there is a fairly specific set of honorifics for English, at least where I live, there are other honorifics that are used depending on location or religion. The most obvious one I am aware of is in the LDS/Mormon religion where other members always attach the word Sister or Brother before the person?s first or last name if you don?t know them personally. And even then, especially if you are a kid, you are suppose to use it all the time as it?s considered rude if you don?t. I haven?t been a member for years and years, but it took me forever to quit calling people sister so and so or brother so and so. And then since many of my relatives are from the south there is yet another way of speaking that differs from the standard English honorifics. It?s not at all usual for an adult to refer to children as Hun or honey or sweetheart and never call you by name. And I know that when I was living there I was expected to always use yes sir or yes ma?am when answering an adult. Even if using them is more true to the original format, it doesn?t change the fact that it?s going to be out of place in a different culture. And though I don?t mind it too much as I?ve been around anime long enough to understand it. On some levels I can see how including them could be a turn off to potential/future fans. Which is why I suggested the triple audio feature, though like r2vq already pointed out, that would be a waste of money and I think they would be better off on focusing on improving the voice acting and taking into consideration matching the lip movements. And by doing so, using honorifics when without them, matching the lip movements would be way off. A compromise if you will instead of an outright they have to be included because that?s how it was done.

If I could only choose one it would be to control air. The ability to manipulate it to create a calm breeze or say a devastating tornado would work for me. And if possible I?d use it to be able to fly. Though if being able to fly didn?t work I?d settle for being able to fly by itself. Of course I?d have to throw in some way to protect myself other wise going over a certain speed would end in my getting killed. Being killed by your own superpower would be extremely lame. For some reason I had it in my mind that the buildings for grade schools were made enormous to keep kids from sneaking out. I excelled at getting into trouble when I was a kid so sneaking out was one of my favorite things to do. Anyway, I thought that all those rooms and doors had adults in them just waiting to catch you if you tried to sneak out the door and go play instead of being in class. I eventually got over it, but it wasn?t until I was much older and for some reason or another entered one of the grade school?s I had attended as a kid that I realized that it?s size was no different than any other building. It was only my small stature as a kid that made the building seem huge. The other one was that I thought space travel and living on the moon was going to happen by the time I was a teen. I was determined to be one of the first kids to attend High School while living on the moon. That one was a killer to find out as I had been looking forward to living on the moon.

I don?t know if it would be called malpractice, but I?ve certainly run into incompetent doctors. The one I remember most is one who had been treating my brother for problems with his knees. Every so often his knee would give and as a result it would swell up and he had to stay off of it for weeks. The doctor would just use a syringe and remove stuff from around the knee, put him on some meds for inflammation and send him home to be miserable for weeks. The third time it happened the doctor had moved to a new office. Now this wouldn?t have been so bad, but if a patient needed to use the restroom they would make them walk to the other side of the building to use a public one. That wouldn?t have been a big deal either except the previous doctor in that office had been my physician so I knew for a fact that there was a restroom there and for what ever reason his office was making patients with knee and other joint injuries walk to the other end of the building when it wasn?t necessary. It was thoughtless and in my opinion showed a complete disregard for the patients under his care. So my brother made an appointment with another doctor who unlike the one he was seeing was also into sports medicine and did a lot of work with the athletes on various sports teams where I live. The first thing the new doctor did was x-ray my brother?s knee, something the other one never did and it turned out he had some sort of defect that needed surgery to correct it. So if the first doctor had just x-rayed his knee the first time, something I?ve since learned is standard for the type of problem my brother was having, well my brother wouldn?t have had to keep having the same problem. Now that he?s had surgery on both knees to fix the defect the problem has ended.

Whether or not honorifics are used doesn?t really concern me. They don?t really fit the English language since for the most part we really don?t use them. Most disks already have it in the Japanese subtitled version and while it fits there, it just seems out of place when they use it in the English version. Some of them do use them and it?s a big turn off to my friends who don?t watch a lot of anime. If they were to add them, I would choose the option where it?s a choice. Like Aaryanna mentioned. DVD technology keeps improving so it?s not like space is an issue. Most disks out there don?t even take advantage of the space available so it?s not like it would be all that hard to have it as a seperate option.

Dhampir, I will be closing this as a thread devoted completely to advertising is not allowed. You are allowed to advertise another site, but not as a topic for discussion. Such threads offer little in the way of conversation and as a result end up cluttering up the forum with unnecessary threads. A quick look at the rules does show that members are allowed to use their signatures to advertise their own site or any other site provided that it doesn?t contain offensive/adult materials. So feel free to put what you have posted into your signature. If you have any questions feel free to pm myself or another member of the staff. ~SunfallE Thread Closed

When I was a newbie, I was very intimidated by the posting standards of this place.
When I first joined I wasn?t intimidated by the posting standards, I had been a member at a couple of other forums and the better posting is actually what attracted me to this site in the first place. The other forums had become boring within a very quick time since the conversations lacked much in the way of depth. At least to me, I didn?t know how much I was looking for more involvement until I found OB. Some of the other sites you could scratch the surface, but trying to expand on the topic just turned others off.
I also realised that there were some sort of social hierarchy to this site. As I stayed longer, I saw these social groups more and more closely.
On some level it?s unavoidable. I don?t think there is a set top group per se, but there are definitely groups with different interests. The standard older group and newer group, I suppose the big difference between OB and other Internet forums is that the groups or social hierarchy here isn?t exclusive towards other members. I know when I first joined I sent Panda PM?s on a regular basis and she always took the time to address any questions I had.
Are some users categorised because of where they post most often?
Actually I think someone is categorized more by how they post instead of where. Where they post just seems to be more of a way to reflect their interests instead of a way to categorize them.
Yes. Some people need to give newbies a break. The posting standard of this forum is very high and it's also ...hmm... difficult isn't the word I want to use but I can't think of a better one. It's also difficult to make friends around here because of the groups and whatnot. That's what I found when I was a newbie.
I agree, especially since a lot of people come here from forums where poor posting is common so I honestly think it doesn?t occur to new members to check out the rules before they post. Once you?ve spent a lot of time visiting other boards like that you have to get into a different mind set altogether when you come here. As for making friends, well I had a hard time at first, but that was primarily because I was still working as a truck driver so I was gone a lot. It?s kind of hard to be friends when you?re gone most of the time. Since I changed jobs and I?m here more, I?ve gotten to know some pretty cool people.
As is often the case in real life, a social ladder only exists because people create them in their heads. The best way to make friends on this place is to be active and interesting.
I think that?s truer than say a 'set' social ladder here at OB. It?s more of a perceived ladder than an attitude of you can?t become part of a group or participate in something just because you haven?t been around long enough.

If he never bothers you when he?s alone then I would have to venture that he?s really just a coward who?s trying to look all tough and cool in front of his friends. I?ve had very little trouble with bullies, but usually the ones who really are out to get you will beat you up the first chance they get regardless of whether another person is around or not. I?d do what Charles suggests and approach him while he?s alone. Without others there for him to look ?cool? in front of he?s likely to be more reasonable. He may lift weights, but looking at that link you provided he certainly doesn?t look all that big. I mean he?s been harassing you for a couple months and he?s yet to actually attack you right? He may react to you asserting yourself by attacking you and he might even win, but like the others already said, at least he can?t truthfully claim you are a coward. Right now by not doing anything, you?re indirectly reinforcing his belief that you are an easy target. The only thing I would worry about is if your confrontation makes him more vicious, based on what you?ve said that doesn?t seem likely, but if he did start threatening you, at that point it might be best to voice your concerns to an adult. Edit: Just thought I'd clarify what I mean by an adult. I'm reffering to someone in charge whether it's the principal at your school or say the police if need be.

There are a lot of anime shows out there that I really enjoy, but to say one is my favorite, I suppose Fruits Basket would fit that role as it?s one I?ve re-watched many times since I never seem to get tired of it. Tohru?s way of always seeing the good in others is a bit overdone at times, but it?s still sweet in it?s own way and gives rise to the development of other characters in the show. Overall Fruits Basket draws me back time and time again as I never get tired of watching Kyo and Yuki argue or Shigure being his usual perverted self. I always crack up when he does his little
song: High School Girls!
And when Haru goes black I just love watching the fur fly so to speak. One of my absolute favorite episodes in the whole series is when Haru shows up for the first time. That whole episode with Kyo obsessing over
beating Yuki in the long distance run for school, to when Haru trips Kyo as he?s running to pick a fight with him.
It?s just the icing on the cake.

Right now I don?t work during the night, but my previous job as a truck driver had me working different hours all the time. It was a combination of pick up and deliver times that constantly shifted the time I was working. In any given week I would have at least one day shift, one swing shift and one graveyard/night shift. Most of the time the night shift was actually pretty nice since it meant you didn?t have to deal with very many four wheeler?s. (when you are a semi truck driver, any vehicle with four wheels is a four wheeler as it?s referring to actual number of wheels and not what the transmission system is) The only drawback to that is that in the winter, night time is the most dangerous due to the drop in temperature and potential ice on the roads. Yeah drunks are an issue, but a huge percentage of your time is spent driving on the open freeway and not in towns, at least on the west coast that is, and drunks tend to stick close to where the liquor is, in town. The rest of the year it?s a lot of fun and if possible I would plan my stops out in the middle of no where so I could enjoy the silence and gaze at the stars. There are some great rest stops in some of the mountain passes where the night sky view is fantastic. And being in a semi means you have a decent amount of comfort to go along with it. Anyway, I no longer have to work at night, but after being a truck driver, well different schedules aren?t an issue for me. I can sleep pretty much any time or in any car for that matter. I like having a regular schedule, but part of me misses the randomness of my days. You rarely knew more than say five days ahead so it was always a surprise as to where and what you would be doing next.

I don?t recall my first brush with death as I wasn?t even a year old. Apparently I had gotten double pneumonia and if I didn?t respond to the antibiotics the doctor had told my mom that I could die within the next twenty four hours. Fortunately I did get better. The next time I do remember, but only vaguely. I was almost five years old and my mom was visiting one of our relatives in Texas who has their own pool in their backyard. I?d never been swimming before and had no concept of the idea that you even needed to know how to swim. According to my mom once she had me in my swimsuit and I went outside, I just ran for the pool and jumped in. I didn?t know there was a deep end and a shallow end to the pool and I jumped into the deep end. She saw me jump in and immediately ran outside and jumped in herself to pull me out. So luckily I wasn?t underwater long enough to drown. The next one I?m not even sure if it counts. I was outside during a storm when lighting struck so close that I got pushed backwards by the sudden change in air pressure. I suppose if the lightning had hit me it might have killed me, but having it hit close enough for me to feel the pressure of the superheated air, along with the loud thunder certainly scared me pretty good. The most recent one happened just a short while ago. I got an infection in my throat that was literally cutting off my ability to breathe. It was horribly painful and I couldn?t eat or drink. The doctor put me on antibiotics that were so powerful they made me sick and the pain meds were awful. They worked, but I absolutely hate the muddled feeling they can give you. It didn?t help when the doctor warned me to immediately call 911 to be taken to the hospital for emergency surgery if the meds he gave me didn?t work. They did, for which I?m grateful, I hate needles more than I hate taking meds.

Everything you?ve listed is due to a member failing to follow the rules that you agreed to when you joined. Instead of outright banning a member for not following the rules we like to explain to the member that what they are doing whether it be double posting or getting off topic, is not how the forum works. A lot of members come here to interact and enjoy the discussions with other members, and spammy posts, threads and off topic posts distract from that purpose by needlessly cluttering up the forum with unnecessary/distracting posts. Which is why there are rules that members are expected to follow. Reading the rules and doing your best to follow them is the best way to avoid the things you?ve mentioned. If anything you?ve read in the rules is unclear you can always pm one of us for clarification. ^_^

Sometimes I think I?m forgetting what it means to be bored. Lately it seems like I?m always busy. But when it does happen I start looking through all the things I enjoy doing. I usually end up doing something like scrap booking, reading, playing video games or watching a movie or some anime. My favorite thing to do, especially in the summer is to go outside and just relax in one of the lawn chairs and soak up some sun. Central Air is nice but sometimes being nice and warm is more relaxing.

Anime What anime character resembles you most?

Well if I were to go by looks, Collette from Tales of Syphonia fits me pretty well as I have blonde hair and blue eyes. But for my actually personality. I?m kind of a mix between Momiji Soma and Hatsuharu Soma. For the most part I tend to be like Momiji in that I don?t take things to seriously and I?m always wanting to just have fun. I also tend to hide things that bother or hurt me and don?t really show that to other people. The Hatsuharu Soma part comes more from my childhood. For the most part I was a happy go lucky kid, but if something got me going then I would snap like Hatsuharu does and go black. I got into so much trouble when I was in grade school. Even now I still get the snap, I?m just old enough to think before I act. -
Well first of all I really don?t see a problem with members having a group to discuss concerns they have about the boards among themselves. The only issue I have is that the original post was terribly unfair and insulting to a few people. A session of simply bashing a few individuals with no constructive criticism or any suggestions or alternatives offered. And the primary reason, the faulty belief that post count, age and years of membership somehow makes others better than other members and therefore more deserving when it comes to staff selection. The Boss and Gavin and others have mentioned that it?s not about becoming a moderator and I do believe you when you say that. But since AC!D!C?s post primarily focused on the belief that moderators should be replaced because they are young, have low post count or haven?t been a member for a year, well I?m sure you can see why people would think the group is primarily after a moderator position. And the meaning of MAMA doesn?t help that either as it implies you are against all of the current staff. It doesn?t help that AC!D!C assumed that Ozy was lazy and doing nothing. In all honestly the title viva otaku makes more sense and like Aaryanna I had noticed it and just assumed that all of you were concerned about improving the quality of the boards. In all honesty I think the secrecy is doing more damage to your group than good. And though this thread got off to a shaky start, I think it?s actually better that the whole issue is out in the open instead of behind closed doors. And Gavin you say that some moderators aren?t living up to your expectations, but like Aaryanna already mentioned we can?t read your mind. ^_~ Like her I go by the guidelines that James and the others provided. It?s never fun to be told you are incompetent without any reason other than you are too young or haven?t been a member for very long.

D. Resurrected, I?m going to close this thread and ask you to take a moment to review the Otaku Lounge Rules as a thread creator?s opening post is what kick starts a discussion, so when creating a thread please be sure you come on to your topic with a decent quality post. For example you could have taken the time tell us what games you play and why you like playing them. What features you find enjoyable about the card game etc. Also you could have clarified if you were reffering to online card games or to more simple ones that you don't need a computer for like Solitaire. Right now your simple statement is only asking for the answer yes I have or not I haven't played a card game. If you want to re-create this thread by all means do so just be sure to clarify your opening post. If you have any questions feel free to pm myself or another member of the staff. ~SunfallE Thread Closed

If you don?t have a chemical imbalance going on I would follow indifference?s advice:
If you are looking for something that doesn?t require medication then there are a number of good self-help books out there. One I would recommend is Feeling Good The New Mood Therapy by David D. Burns, M.D. It?s an excellent book that focuses on the use of Cognitive Therapy, which teaches us that by changing the way we think we can alter our moods, with out the use of drugs. So long as there isn?t a chemical imbalance going on, the techniques listed in the book are very effective.
I have that book and it?s been the key factor in helping me to fight depression. I?d have to post pages to properly explain how much that book helped me get over being depressed. If you?ve already seen a psychiatrist and know you don?t need meds, I?d definitely go and get a copy of that book. It?s a whole lot cheaper than going to a shrink and in many ways it was far more effective. At least for me it was.

What do you do when the power goes out?
SunfallE replied to CyberPandaLove's topic in General Discussion
So far every time the power has gone off it?s usually been at night. So other than to realize that my fan has quit working I usually just turn over and go right back to sleep. Occasionally it happens during the day, but since most of my computer time is spent on a laptop the battery keeps me from losing any information. I just turn it off and go read or do some yard work. When I?ve been at work, I usually have a deck of playing cards and in that case I either sit and chat with a fellow co-worker or pull out my cards and play solitaire until the power comes back on. It's kind of fun when it happens at work since you're getting paid to just sit there and do nothing.
