1. Welcome to OtakuBoards xXxiTaChixXx, I am closing this thread for the following reason: A thread?s main topic of discussion should be something that can spark an intelligent discussion of some form. This falls short of this requirement since other than to say yes make me one of this name there isn?t any room for a discussion. If you want to offer writing people?s name in Japanese for them, a good place to put that would be in your signature with instructions to pm you on what name they would like to have written. You could then pm the result back to them. Please take a moment to read the sticky: Otaku Lounge Rules for information on creating threads. If you have any questions feel free to pm myself or another member of the staff. ~*SunfallE Thread Closed
2.
[*]Pumpkin : Obviously my old username on OB. I'll probably change it back once I get bored of the one I have now (yeah, I know you saw that one coming didn't you?). First name on the otakuboards and I can't seem to find anything thats any better. If you have any great ideas for names, PM me and I'll give you a cookie. .
There you are! I didn?t catch that you had changed your user name so I thought you were gone! *hug* :catgirl: My first nickname was Boo. Apparently when I was a baby my older brother heard my parents calling me a beautiful baby and his attempt to say the word beautiful came out as Boo. Later in Junior High I was given the nickname Bethany by my friends. My legal name is Elizabeth but I go by Beth and they changed it to Bethany. Other than that I?ve don?t have much in the way of nicknames. There are others that I?ve been called and I have in turn called them the same thing, but calling someone sweetie or honey is something I picked up from my parents and relatives, as it seems to be part of their southern accent. 3.
Cars, which ones are your favourites? Do you like the newer models of cars or the classics? Do you like the expensive, almost near-impossible to get ones, or just the run-of-the-mill kind? You can name specific brands and models if you like.[/color']
I use to have my heart set on a car like a Toyota Matrix or the Chevy Impala, but ever since I drove one of these: I?ve grown to love the big trucks. ^_^ I?m almost kind of sad since things in my personal life require my being home more than a few days a month as I really enjoyed driving along the west coast. If money wasn?t an issue or if I ever do return to being a truck driver I?ll probably get one of these: Although regular trucks have a lot of great features the newest ones are even better since it?s like having a RV but with all the added convinces that come with a Semi. With satellite TV, radio and Internet, you don?t have to leave very much behind. I know I liked having my Game Cube and Playstation while I was on the road. ^_~
4.
No kidding; this is great stuff. It's clear that a lot of effort and thought went into all of the images (not to mention the other parts of the process, such as collecting quotes), and I can only imagine how much time it took.
I?ll second that the way the results were presented is down right gorgeous. I look at the detail that went into them like the Avatar Submission Thread one and it?s just a total Wow! We need a Nifty Fifty One just for those graphics. ^_~ I know what I?ll be nominating for the next time. I?ve been looking forward to seeing the results and it far exceeded my expectations. ^_^ Congratulations to everyone who was chosen. ^_~
5. Exploration is the very essence of improving humanity. It?s the spirit of exploration that has lead to improvements in technology. Space exploration is valuable in that there is great potential in the possibility of finding even greater things. If you are looking to remove a waste of resources, well there?s certainly a lot of political porking so to speak. I can think of several bills passed by the state I live in that in the last week alone will amount to millions of dollars of wasted resources. And others have mentioned things like weapons research. Do we really need to spend billions on refining the art of killing each other? It would certainly be nice if there was no need for weapons. If we were to wait to do something until people got along, well nothing would ever get done. ^_~
6. I?m trying to think of something weird that I?ve eaten and I just can?t think of anything. Well I suppose plain Tofu would do as the one time I tried it, I swear the stuff tasted like cardboard! As for breakfast, I?ve never cared for breakfast food I?ll eat anything except traditional breakfast food. I?ve never cared for cereal, pancakes, sausages, eggs or other types of breakfast food. So the weirdest thing I?ve eaten is actual breakfast food! I think I have that about once a year and some years not at all.
7. Welcome to OtakuBoards Alannie. I?m locking this thread for two reasons. One because the question of does anyone watch Asian Network? is unlikely to generate much in the way of discussion. The way you have phrased the first post is encouraging short, spammy responses like yes I have watched Asian Network or no I haven?t. The second reason is that this is the wrong forum for discussing anything anime related. You can use the Anime Lounge for that. You will find that there is already a Yami No Matsuei (Descendants of Darkness) and a The Record of Lodoss War thread available. Also to keep from repeating threads it is asked that you don?t create more than one of each Anime. Instead we encourage you to go ahead and join the current discussion going on. Just take a look at the Official Threads Directory in the Anime Lounge to assist you in finding the correct thread. For more on OtakuBoard?s policies on spam and post quality, take a moment to check the Rules and FAQ located on the left sidebar. If you have any further questions, feel free to ask myself or another staff member. Thread Locked
8.
Oh do you think so? I'm sorry..... :animecry: :animedepr Though choices, but I guess I'd go with the first choice. At least anyone (that doesn't know me personally of course) who watched the movie didn't know I'm the star of what they watched :D cause XXX movies tends to not include their actor's ( :D ) name. It's a though responsibility, having a kid on your 14th age..... :animeswea Indeed you are..... :D Ok, here comes...... Would you rather :animeknow Eat ten kilos of dirts which has all kind of animal shits (sorry.....don't know how to say it on a more....polite way.....:animeshy: ) on it...... or Slaughter your own family...... Back to the massacre...... :D
Do I get to choose which family members? kidding! ^_~ I?d chose to eat the nasty dirt. >_< Okay here?s one. I read the thread so if I still give a similar choice sorry. Would you go hungry and possibly die? Or would you? Eat your own pet to survive?
9.
Yea but when America wants to drill in Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, something's wrong. That's a refuge for animals simply because we've drove them out of every other possible place. And they wanted to drill it for more oil? That makes me sick. I rely on oil just as much as everyone else, I have a car that I drive to school and work from. But I would much rather the American and Canadian governments to invest that money into finding renewable resources, so we don't have to start destroying wildlife habitats more than we allready have. There's plenty out there... nuclear, solar power, wind power, hemp (can be used as a fossil fuel), there's no need to destroy a place that we preserved for wildlife. I believe that conflict was resolved, for now... but it's just a point I'm making. We're getting too damn oil hungry for our own good.
I agree, in fact some of the oil shale here in Utah is very close to many national parks and there is concern that the vibration from drilling could damage many of the geological features that make the parks so unique. It?s a constant argument since companies want to use the area as a testing ground for finding better ways to extract the oil. I always vote against the request when given a chance since I think the money would be better spent in developing alternate energy sources. Like the diesel fuel that can be make from vegetable oils. You can grow new vegetables every year. So I just don?t see a reason to damage wildlife or parks for a resource that isn?t renewable.
10. I actually do not agree that oil is going to disappear in the next 30-50 years. The topic that oil is going to run out has been going on for quite some time. Before the first U.S. oil well was drilled in PA in 1859 supplies were limited to a crude oil that oozed to the surface. So naturally it was going to run out as we lacked the ability to drill for it. But it didn?t stop people from issuing statements that we would be doing without within a very short time. In 1874 it was estimated that only enough U.S. oil remained to keep kerosene lamps burning for four years. A prediction that was far from accurate. If you follow the history of oil production every time a prediction was not accurate a new prediction was made that moved the ?time? it would happen forward by a few years and then it?s published again in more visible and prestigious sources. Non-experts persistently predict an oil shortage because they misunderstand petroleum terminology. Oil geologists speak of both reserves and resources. Reserves are only the portion of identified resources and do not include ?resources? that are unknown. If exploration for new sources were not continually sought it is estimated that we would have run out of oil back in 1930. It?s true that oil is not a renewable source of energy, but so far exploration is finding oil at a rate much faster than we can pump it out of the ground. In 1920 the U.S. Geological Survey announced that the world?s total amount of oil was about 60 billion barrels. In 1950 they changed it to 600. From 1970 to 1990 it was changed several times to be between 1,500 to 2,000. In 1994 it was changed to 2,400 to 3,000 billion barrels. If world oil consumption continues to increase at an average rate of 1.4 percent a year and no further resources are discovered, then the supply will be exhausted around 2056. But even that is ignoring the fact that there are other unconventional sources of oil. Like Oil shales which hold close to 14,00 billion barrels. 1,500 billion of that is right here in Utah, Colorado and Wyoming. And there?s even more potential resources. The thing is that unconventional sources are more expensive to get to. But technology is improving all the time. The first American oil drill only reached about 69 feet. Today?s technology allows them to reach depths of 30,000 feet on land and about 9,000 feet in water. So I wouldn?t get too worked up over the prediction that oil is going to disappear in the next 30-50 years. My grandmother, who is 94 was told the same thing, and my parents as well. Oh and lets not forget that I remember hearing the same prediction just over 20 years ago saying we would run out between 2000-2003. And guess what? Now that oil is not gone like my grandmother, parents and I were told a new prediction has once again been published. It?s more likely that in 30-50 years you will get a new prediction instead of oil actually disappearing. Or prices will increase as they move to using oil resources that are more expensive to get to.
11. Well if your friend is posting the pictures somewhere claiming that they drew them then I would turn them in like Retribution suggested. Whether it?s your art or not is irrelevant. Your friend did steal and if they steal from others if you have art too they might steal from you as well. Usually people who steal have no trouble stealing from any and everyone. Though she might be smart enough to never show you the copies she did of your art. If you have art that is. You ask if it was right to confront her, well is it right to just say nothing? Do you really want to protect a friendship that on some level is based on a lie? And what about the people she may have hurt by stealing? What if they were your friends? Wouldn?t you want the person plagiarizing to be stopped since stealing is wrong? If your friend is acting like they did nothing wrong then do you really want someone like that as a friend? Not only is she hurting the artists she steals from but also she is hurting you by pretending to be something she?s not. If she had admitted she was wrong and tried to make amends then I?d keep being a friend. But based on what you?ve said it sounds like she sees nothing wrong with stealing and lying to you and her other friends. And that to me is someone who is unworthy of being your friend.
12.
Alrighty, i like to talk about phiolosophy every now and then with my friend. He's really into it, and i'm arrogant, so we can get into some pretty good arguments every once in a while. It's fun. I figured i'd ask ya guys a question, see what you guys would answer. Ok, here's the question: If you had the oppotunity to cure all of the world's diseases and hunger, would you do it? Now here's the kicker, you have to sacrafice one person in order to do it. One person's life, taken by you, to save billions. What would you do? Personally.....i'm not a 100% sure what i'd do. But i'm leaning towards the saving the billions for the one. It's all about, do the ends justify the means, i believe they do.
Ignoring the debate going on here I?m just going to answer the initial post. My answer to this question is I would not sacrifice one to save others. Why? Because this argument is flawed, it is ignoring the fact that cures to diseases are being found and that answers to solving hunger are being addressed. It?s in interesting idea to think that a single sacrifice would save billions but I also think its naive. The chances of anything like that ever happening are highly unlikely. Especially since it?s not likely that the ability to find cures or to find better ways to address hunger are going to end. Progress is always being made. It?s easy to look at current problems and think nothing is being done, but if you look at history then it is obvious that solutions are being found to address hunger and disease. Also, unless one is presented with the situation, no matter what you say, until it actually happens you really don?t know what you would do. You can hope you would behave a certain way, but you just don?t know. So my hope and belief is that unless I knew for a fact that no cure would ever be found (something I highly doubt) I would not sacrifice anyone.
13.
I?m having a problem with sending and receiving pm?s. For over a week I?ve had pm?s simply disappear. I will write the pm, check the box to keep a copy in my sent folder and though I get a message telling me that the pm was sent successfully the person I send it to gets a really old message instead of the new one and the message I sent doesn?t show up in my sent folder like they usually do. I tried testing it with a friend today and she got a pm I sent to her back in December instead of the new one I sent. In fact, every pm she?s gotten from me in the last week has been older pm?s instead of the current one I just sent. And so far not a single one that I have sent has shown up in my sent box making me wonder if each and every pm has been lost. Is there a problem with the pm?s? Or is it just my account that?s having problems? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
I'm having the same problem too. I've found that every pm that it says was sent successfully but didn't show up in my sent box, was not recieved by the person I sent it to. Instead they get a pm I sent a long time ago, just like indifference was talking about. Though unlike indifference some of mine are being recieved. I sent one to indifference today and she got it just fine, but when she sent a new one to me I got an older pm that she sent back in December. I still haven't gotten the new one. So some of mine are going through and others are not. >_< So are the pm's just delayed? It's kind of frustrating since I don't want to keep sending the pm if it's eventually going to arrive. But if it's lost is there any way to find them or should I just resend the pm?
14. Well the last thread I killed was a Dr. Who RPG. >_< The person who started it just doesn?t have time due to school, but I still feel like I killed it somehow. I?m sure I?ve killed others, but none come to mind at the moment. Still to have killed a Dr. Who thread. >_< I feel like a murderer somehow! LOL!
15. Well if you want to get technical then all cells are alive. Even if they depend on other cells for their survival. So even before conception there is life. But what makes them alive to me is the ability to survive on their own outside their mother?s womb. Sure a baby would die within a very short time without care, but at that point they are living separately from another human being. As for when they become aware? I would have to go with when their brains are developed enough to start producing brainwaves. They still aren?t truly conscious in my opinion, but it?s a big step towards becoming capable of independence.
16. Well I hope you like this Retribution. It more on the simple side, but it did take me a while to put it together. I've still got the PSD file if you need me to change anything. Anyway, here it is: picture As for your piece Ozymandius Jones. It?s beautifully done. ^_^
17. For the first picture I like the text running down the right side. I also like the word silentwar though I don?t care for it being placed right against the edge of the picture. Seems like it needs to be moved to the left just a little. Have you tried putting text along the right side like you did on the left? I like the overall feeling to the picture but I don?t care for the background on left side. Its just comes across as empty space. That map is too funny! ^_^ Looks like I?ll need to move before the changes take place.
18. I don?t suppose you?d take another vote? I?ve had trouble getting online most of the past week. >_< Well I?ll post it anyway and you can decide whether or not to accept it. ^_^ White: Well first of all I really love the words you choose to represent hate. The font of the main words and the faded one in the back really set the mood of how hate is always there, lurking behind everything. It gives off a dark feeling to it. Very nicely done. The only problem I see with it is that there is so much empty space, but at the same time that?s kind of what hatred is about, an empty darkness that surrounds you and leaves nothing behind, no light or joy or anything. So even with the extra space it still conveys the feeling quite well. Though I think if you were to crop off the extra space it would make an awesome banner. Retribution: What really stands out is the sharp contrast in colors. The pink O is nice but a bit distracting. I also like how clearly the word poltik stands out and the bit of a drop shadow gives it a nice feeling of depth. Although I do think that the overlapping words in the back give a good feeling of how politics really are what throws me off is how the individual letters that don?t overlap are touching. It?s a good thing though as it gives the impression of being irritating and unreadable which is often how politics really are, a bunch of lies and useless laws. It really fits quite well. It?s hard to choose since I like both pieces, for this one my vote goes to Retribution.
19. Amber waited until the half moon had risen high enough to partially illuminate the abandoned warehouse before flying down from her hiding place in the rafters. She checked her makeshift bandage in the moonlight to make sure no more blood was soaking through. Satisfied that it was in place she quietly left the warehouse to head back to the train station near her flat. Surprisingly the few local police she encountered didn?t seem to be searching for anyone. Amber was careful to avoid being seen but there was no indication that they were looking for her. Within a very short time she was at the train station. She held back and observed it for a while to make sure no one was waiting to ambush her. Once she was certain no one was waiting she slipped into the building where the lockers were and retrieved her stuff. Amber smiled to herself as she was leaving the building. Next she would stop at one of the local bars. It was a good thing she kept all of her disks in a separate location. She reached into her backpack and pulled out one of the disks, which had a blue label on it. It would fetch a good price on the black market. Several hours later Amber walked out of a local department store with several bags and headed back towards the abandoned warehouse. Once inside she set the bags down and pulled out a plastic bucket and set it on the ground. She removed the silk sash and put it in the bucket and then opened the pack fastened around her waist and also put the kitchen towel in as well. Then she removed the pack and put it in as well. Amber pulled out the medical supplies she had bought and properly bandaged up her left arm. Then she took the gallon of bleach she bought and poured it into the plastic bucket until everything inside was completely covered in the liquid. Once that was done she flew up to the rafter where she had been hiding earlier and poured bleach on the spot where blood had dripped. She applied it several times, making sure all traces of her blood were destroyed and then flew back down to where the bucket and her things were. Amber carefully picked up the bucket and took it outside and placed it in a dumpster, careful to avoid tipping it over. Now that she had taken care of that she went back into the warehouse to get her things. She was preparing to leave when she realized that back in one of the corners was an old office up higher. She took her stuff and flew up to take a look. In the moonlight she could see an old and battered sofa that was still there. She walked over and shook the dust off the cushions and sat down. It was surprisingly comfortable. Amber stifled a yawn and got up. Upon checking it was clear that the stairs to the old office were gone. It wasn?t the best place but it would probably be safer than a hotel. Even if the police weren?t looking for her U.N.I.T was bound to still be on the lookout. Once again she stifled a yawn. Amber walked back to her stuff and pulled out a small throw blanket and the water bottle and sandwich she had bought earlier. She took her stuff over to the couch and sat down. Tomorrow she would look for a new place to stay. She finished her sandwich and curled up under the throw blanket. A few minutes later she was fast asleep.
20. All this fuss over a cartoon? Seriously I think people are overreacting. Since when does the Muslim community have the right to dictate to others what they can and cannot print? Cartoons are not truth! They make fun of all sorts of ridiculous situations! The problem is that no matter what you print somewhere you will find someone who is offended by it. I was reading in the local paper today that some of the Muslims are demanding that the cartoonist be tried for blasphemy. It?s ridiculous to think that your way or religion is the only way on Earth. So what if other people don?t agree with you? It?s not the end of the world. This is hardly a reason to do away with freedom of speech. If nothing else it is a good example of why we need freedom of speech. All that is happening from the riots and burning embassies is that a few Muslims are making the rest of the others look like a bunch of idiots who can?t handle someone thinking differently than they do. Yes the cartoons are offensive and in poor taste but its no excuse to attack others who have nothing to do with it. It?s not the first time a religion has been insulted by a political cartoon and it certainly won?t be the last.
21. I don?t really do much for Valentines Day. I do send e-cards or messages to my friends but that?s about it. As for my family, my Dad always gives each of us a little gift. Nothing big, just some flowers or chocolates. My parents belong to the LDS Church and just like they do in indifference?s area they give out plants or some other little gift to all the mothers and single women in their ward. And groups of them take similar gifts to the nearby homes for the elderly who need assisted living. Overall though it?s not much of a holiday around here, except for the kids who exchange Valentines cards at the elementary schools.
22. I don?t really have a favorite color per se. I like too many to pick just one. There are so many shades of purple, green, blue and other colors that I really like. Probably my only preference as far as colors go is that I tend to stick to the warmer tones of the shade instead of the cooler ones. I don?t really care for the more bright colors like neon green, it?s pretty but after awhile looking at it gives me a headache. ^_~
23. Interesting that other forums would consider OtakuBoards members elitist. I joined primarily because I got tired of other forums full of spam, flaming and poor posting quality. I like to actually be able to understand what the other person is saying when they post and if that makes me an elitist, so be it. I certainly like it much better here as the moderators do such a great job of keeping the spamming and flaming to a minimum. I wouldn?t say that better grammar and posting makes us elitists but rather people who understand the concept of using programs like Word to catch our mistakes. ^_~
24. I?m definitely still interested. ^_^ Like Aaryanna I?ve already got several ideas written up but I wanted to see what others posted incase I needed to change anything. And like Blayze I?ve been waiting for the Doctor to be introduced since I didn?t want to contradict what Jokopoko had in mind. ^_^
25. Interesting idea. ^_^ It was surprising to see where people lived. So far I?m the only one in Utah though. >_< Oh and Baron Samedi, I love your new signature. Hehe! Priceless. ^_^
