1.
This happens quite a lot. The person who approves wallpapers generally approves hundreds a day, and sometimes things "slip through," another problem is with members who have submitted enough quality work to become a "senior artist" and then their quality takes a nosedive because it no longer needs approval to be seen on the site. I hope I've answered any questions...
I would have to agree with this statement. I had to remove around 32 wallpapers and re-do them as the modifications I made were too simple. If you don't have to wait for approval it can be easy to not put as much effort into making your wallpapers. Though since I had to remove some I've made sure to put more effort into making them. Though it helps that I went and got a better software program so I could do more to them. ^_~
I think another problem is that, when it comes to using official art in wallpapers, a moderator may not be familiar with the source material. So when they see the wallpaper, they won't really know how much it's been edited, and thus can't make an accurate judgement about it.
I agree with this statement too. I have a number of Magic Knight Rayearth backgrounds that I have done from Offical Art. At first glance they appear to just be the picture, but almost eveyone of them had huge black borders that I removed. I then had to make adjustments on the actual photo so it would look good at 1024 x 768. It's also true of some character sketchs I did of Sailor Moon. At first glance they look like a simple scan of the art book. But they were actually two pages that were scanned seperately, put back together and then repaired enough to look good. Though if you are really curious I have posted the orginal pictures I used in a gallery I provided a link to on myOtaku page. There is so much anime out there it can be hard for a moderator to know what is offical and what has been modified.
2.
Then you're living in the wrong part of Utah, sport. ^_^ I've been in Utah, and although they may have a few sticks up their butts, they're pretty nice people and if you give them a chance and explain to them, they generally get the idea. As for maleducation, you're picking on the wrong state. BYU and UofU are two of the highest respected universities outside of the Ivyleague. So just like you are generalizing Utahns, so are a lot of people generalizing yaoi. Stereotypes. You've got to look beyond the outter layer of what is presented to you and find what really makes it what it is. Don't just assume that the entire population of one area feels the same way. ^_~ It's all about the little things.
As I am a Utahan myself I can?t help but point out that there is no ?correct? place to live in Utah. If you have only visited Utah, perhaps you should try living here before assuming that explaining things to them will make people understand. I was born here in Utah and have lived here most of my life. Indifference is not overstating the fact that people are intolerant here. And she did say many people, not all people here in Utah. After all I like anime myself and know a few here who do. I could spend a while explaining all the things the people have attempted to have banned here in Utah as many of them have no tolerance for a different opinion. For starters the universities here including BYU attempted to have Ethics classes removed from the school as they felt it was misleading their children by teaching a moral system different from the one of the main religion here. Then they tried to remove Biology, as evolution does not fit the view of how life began according to the main religion here. My father worked for BYU for over 30 years and before he retired he was dean over six departments. I remember this quite clearly as he was opposed to them removing the classes. And lets not forget the attempt to ban Harry Potter in the schools here when the series first came out. They also attempted to ban anime sales in general. When it didn?t succeed many of the stores here responded by simply removing the items and refusing to sell them. Now only the bigger cooperation?s that are not based out of Utah sell them where I live. And even they have drastically reduced what they will carry as so many customers complain that they are selling ?filth? in their stores. I have had people be downright rude to me when I have been picking up a DVD from an anime series. I got accused of promoting pornography when I picked up a DNAngel DVD the other day. He didn?t even give me a chance to reply but instead complained to the cashier that he wouldn?t be returning to a store that sells such garbage. Not all Utahans are intolerant; after all I have met several of them online here at myOtaku. But I do agree with indifference that many of them are not tolerant. I could easily go into further detail on the things that are banned here, as they do not fit the view of the major religion here. On the positive side as many things did not get banned after the attempt was made, it is obvious that there are tolerant people here as well. ^_~
3.
The pm said it was only a warning. As it was the first time one of my wallpapers had been removed I was surprised as it had been approved. I just didn't want to get in trouble when I thought the submission was fine. Now that I know it is considered borderline in terms of modifications being made I will make sure to apply more changes before I re-submit it. Thanks again for your assistance.
That's what's so nice about this place as all the moderators and people who run this place always help you out when you need it. ^_^ I wouldn't worry too much seeing that it appears to be a misunderstanding. Besides, even if it wasn't a misunderstanding if it's your first time they have actually removed one, I doubt they would instantly freeze your account. I suspect they would only do that if you continued to submit wallpapers that need more done to them after being told you need to change them more.
4.
I have another question about wallpapers submissions. I submitted one for approval yesterday and after it was approved and posted I got a notification saying it was deleted as it did not have enough graphic effects done on it. The pm warned that your account can be frozen for such submissions. I am kind of confused as to why such a warning was given. Unilke some of the members I have met here at myOtaku, my submissions are not automatically posted. Each and every thing I have posted has gone through approval before being posted. I do not mind that it was removed I am just confused why I would be in trouble for something that a moderator approved to be posted. Was it removed by a different moderator who was unaware that a different moderator approved it in the first place? I am fairly new here and I would hate to have my account frozen over a misunderstanding. Any help regarding this would be greatly appreciated. indifference
As I actually downloaded the wallpaper before they removed it I'm confused too. It was on a simple white background, but the seven different characters you put on it had a graphic effect where it looked like you had ghosted the image as if they were moving and you still got several of the image outlines of where they were. I thought it was nicely done. That's odd that one moderator would approve it and then another remove it and send you a pm warning you about submissions. Guess it's a case of the right hand not knowing what the left hand had just done. The moderators here are really good, so I'm sure they won't freeze your account as it sounds like a misunderstanding to me.
5.
I have to wonder how many people who felt the desire to kill themselves would seek help if the stigma of being selfish for even feeling that way were removed. I am quite sure that for many of them it is really a selfish desire to live.
As I have actually had a time in my life where I wanted to die, I completely agree with this statement. I live in a highly religious area and the people here immediately lecture you on how sick and selfish you are for even wanting to die. For me it really was a desire to escape my current life and live a better one. I've long since moved past that point in my life, but primarly since one person saw beyond the stigma of wanting to die as being selfish and did reach out and help me when I needed it the most.
6. One of my friends got a message on her myOtaku site saying Unauthorized access detected, please contact your site adminstrator. I was wondering why she got that message. She changed her password and then made sure she didn't have any viruses and checked for spyware and then made sure she had all the microsoft updates installed. Is there something going on at myOtaku? Or is it a problem that was already taken care of. Any help regarding this would be appreciated. Thanks. ^_^
7. Well NASA succeded in hiting the comet. Only time will tell if it actually provides any useful information. I still think blowing things up isn't a good method of investigation but at the same time I'm glad they got something out of the money that was spent. That would have been a pretty expensive miss if it had failed to connect. Here's a link to an article about the results, and a picture of the comet is showing it after the probe from the Deep Impact spacecraft collided with it early Monday, July 4, 2005 Picture of Comet Impact
8. This is the one thing in this series that gets on my nerves a bit, Kikyo is dead, unless InuYasha dies and they go to the afterlife together, being with a dead woman is pointless. It doesn't matter than they loved each other and it was destroyed by Naraku, she's still dead. Kagome may not be from InuYasha's time, but she's at least alive.
9. I was reading this in the newspaper the other day??. Scientists hope the July 4th collision between the Deep Impact spacecraft and Tempel 1 will gouge a crater in the comet surface while an impactor and mother ship collect near real-time data. If the $333 million mission is successful, Deep Impact will be the first spacecraft to touch the surface of a comet. The force of the collision is equal to about 5 tons of dynamite. The resulting crater could range from the size of a house to a football stadium. Impact is expected around 1:52 am EDT on July 4, 2005. If you want the full details here?s the article: Deep Impact I was a bit surprised when I read this article, as I don?t recall seeing anything about it in the news when the ship was launched back in mid-January. Perhaps I missed seeing or reading about it. What I am curious about is what all of you think about it? Personally I think blowing things up or at least trying to blow them up isn?t a good method of investigation. I have to wonder what was going through their minds when they came up with this idea. I find it appalling that so much money was spent just to try and blow up part of a comet. I was especially offended by the statement: NASA guarantees that its experiment will not significantly change the comet?s orbit nor will the smashup put the comet or any remnants of it on a collision course with Earth. I think such a statement is quite arrogant. How can you possibly guarantee such a thing? I guess we will all find out in just a few days.
10.
Raiyuu, within the thread, which shall be nameless, my friend, who shall also remain the such, was told she would have to be "dropped" cause the thread-creator stated that she would prefer to " work with experienced OB members" Thanx for the complemnt too. i dont get those much.... THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR THOUGHTS. It's nice to know that even though I do have a problem, we can all maturely discuss the matter, and others over this forum. I greatly appreciate OB and I thank them for letting us use this space to voice our opinoins. I, myself, am starting to broaden my sights and enjoying all that OB has to offer. Once again, thank you very much for all your thoughts and comments.
I have never participated in any of the RPG threads myself, but I do agree that the manner in which your friend was told she wouldn't be part of the story was tactless. I've had online stuff I've done where there could only be a limited amount of members or I didn't like the input of one person as it was different than how I wanted the project, so to speak, to go. Personally I try to tell people that either the position is already taken or that I'm changing the story line and want to kill off a character or elimate an aspect of the story. Telling someone that they aren't experianced is a appaling lack of good communication skills in my opinion. Having experiance at being an OB member doesn't automatically mean you are going to be a good contributor to a story. On the other hand, stick around and I think that like I have you will find there are quite a few amazing people here at OtakuBoards. And how long they have been members will have absoutely nothing to do with it. ^_^
11. Here's my attempt. The first one I layed three images together as they are quite small if you don't distort the picture. The second one is the entire picture, but it does distort it a bit. And the third one I zoomed in and chopped part of it to avoid distorting the image. Hope you like at least one of them. ^_^ Do you care if I make a wallpaper out of your picture? Not to post on the internet, but just for me to use on my computer? If you don't mind that is. ^_^ zelda01 zelda02 zelda03
12. I agree that chain letters are annoying. I also think that the best response is simply to delete them. After all that's one less link in the chain if you simply don't send it to others. I have to admit though, occasionally they are pretty funny to read, I espically love the ones that say if you don't do this then you will never get married or some other such dire prediction. LOL
13. I heard there was a new doctor for the series, but they haven't been playing it where I live. :animecry: I love Dr Who! I have tons of tapes of the previous doctor's before they took it off the air. I espically loved the 4th doctor, he was awesome. I hope they show it where I live soon as I would love to see it. For now I'm just collecting the episode's they have been putting out on DVD. ^_^
14. The funniest thing I saw was an article in the newspaper the other day. It was a guy with his truck that he had crashed by rolling it while going around a corner in the mall parking lot. The idiot actually told the reporter that his truck rolled because the corner was too sharp! LOL I'm sure the fact that he was trying to drive 40 miles an hour around a curve that should be driven only 10 miles an hour had nothing to do with it. LOL
15.
I hate air pollution! I've got allergies and I'm allergic to a lot of air pollutants. :animeangr I try to help by recycling, but it's hard as there isn't much in the way of programs where I live. You have to sort it yourself, pack it in bags and then drive down to drop the stuff off. And the city doesn't take very many things to recycle. So I end up throwing perfectly recycable stuff away. :animesigh
That's true where I live as well. I'd love to see more places implementing better recycling programs. Or at least even having one in the first place.
16. What elfpirate says is very true, they aren't doing it on purpose, they can't help it. A few years ago my grandmother started having problems with Dementia. I had no choice but to place her in a nursing home as she required 24 hour care. She's 93 years old and until a few years ago she took good care of herself. It can be hard for family members to believe they aren't behaving strangly on purpose, espically since usually before the symptoms start their behavior was normal. I would recommend doing some research on the disease as it can help you to better understand what they are going through. I'm sure that most counslers could recommend some good books on the subject.
17. I was trying to submit a wallpaper I made and I keep getting a mesasge that says: A database error has occured. An e-mail has already been dispatched to us regarding the error and will be fixed promptly. The error returned: An error occured while executing a query. Since I have had no problems in the past I was wondering if something is wrong with the site.
18. When I got up this morning it was raining and quite cold. So when I sat down at my computer to check my e-mail I pulled out one of my many blankets and wrapped it around my shoulders while I waited for the central heat to warm the house up a bit. This got me thinking about blankets in general as I have quite a few of them. For what ever reason I just love blankets! Patchwork, puffy quilts, small ones, 4 & 6 sided granny square crocheted ones, Swedish weave, hand sewn circle ones, fuzzy ones and my all time favorite, the electric blanket! I started counting the blankets I have and I was astounded to realize that I have close to 30 of them! Since there is only my dog, and me it?s like we have a different blanket for each day of the month. And yet I?m always looking at other cute ones to add to my collection. I?ve also given hand made blankets to my family and friends. I?ve probably made around 20 blankets to give away. It?s especially fun to make ones for my friends when they are expecting a baby. So what type of blankets do you guys have? And what?s your favorite type? For me it?s really hard to choose, as there is so many that I like. But I always have to have an electric one; I use that one more than any other type of blanket. Also how many of you have made your own blankets? Over half of what I have I made myself.
19. Classical! I can't even begin to describe how much I love classical, even though I've heard so little of what's available. I love all sorts of music, but I always circle back to listening to Classical. ^_^ I don't think it's the only music that can be considered fine art. I've heard other types of music that were absoutely stunning as well. John Williams has written some amazing movie soundtracks like the one's for the Star Wars, Indiana Jones, and Jurassic Park series. I also really like the christmas music done by Manhiem Steamroller that is a mixture of older christmas music mixed with a bit of modern styles. Quite truthfully until I heard their style of christmas music I was a grinch who didn't like christmas music at all. If you haven't heard their christmas music I highly recommend it as it's totally awesome. As for my favirote classical music, well one of my favirote pieces is: Violin Concerto in E minor, Opus 64 (Solo Instrument with Orchestra) by Felix Mendelssohn. I just love listening to it. And I also love Moonlight Sonata by Ludwig Van Beethoven. There are more I enjoy, but those two are among my favirotes. :animesmil
20. I actually don't have any plans for summer except working. But then that's because my family already went on a 1 1/2 week vacation to Yellowstone National Park last month. ^_^ Though I am hoping to take maybe a weekend off to visit my brother in Oregon sometime in the next 4 months.
21. I'm not interested in going public at all. I would rather be very successful with out any of the problems that come with being famous. If I were to go public so to speak I would want it to be as a writer. Yet even then I would like it to be like it is here at Otaku. You may write a revew or do wallpapers or other such things, but people only know you by your user name, thus you get to be published and share your work with others and still keep your privacy at the same time. I know if I ever get any books published it will definately be under a pen name and not my real one.
22.
Ah, this is something I wanted to bring up. Perhaps not immediately, as many hubs currently lack any rating, but I would like to be able to see more than one review per anime. It seems...awkward, that such a member-oriented site would provide one[/i'] (almost definitive) review per anime.
This is something I would love to see. More than one review per anime. I've been reading the reviews and some of them I would love the chance to write one as my opinion of the show in question is completely different than the one posted. Also would it be possible to have a choice in submitting reviews that is similar to Miscellaneous Anime in the wallpaper section? I just saw the most amazing anime show the other day and I really want to write a review on it. The only problem was that when I went and checked the avaiable titles this show wasn't among the ones available. I thought that perhaps someone had already written one, but when I checked I didn't find a review of the show anywhere in the review section. I'm sure there are lots of anime shows out there that people would love to write a review of that isn't in the current list of available titles and not among the ones that have been reviewed. Unless there is a way to submit one and I didn't see it. :animeswea
23. Although I really enjoyed watching the new movie, I personally think the first Star Wars movie released in 1977 was the best out of all six movies. I'm always telling my friends that no other movie has done as well as it did, at least here in the US that is. I then get the speech about how Titanic made more money, but I remind them that they are forgetting to consider inflation since tickets were so much cheaper in 1977. I actually found a site that made a list of the top 20 movies in the US with the adjustment made for inflation and I was right. Star Wars does top the list. They even included what Titanic would have made based on inflation. Anyway, here's the link to the site if you want to check it out. They have lots of other interesting facts about movies. ^_^ Movie Charts
24. I don't watch very much TV because I just can't stand commercials, they go beyond annoying. But I do remember seeing a commercial for a type of truck several years ago, though I forget what type of truck it was. Anyway, it showed a cop using the truck trying to pull over a speeder in a very expensive sports car that could outrun the truck. So the cop drives over the mountain and waits for the sports car on the other side since it had to go around. It said something along the line, it's not how fast you can drive, but where you can drive that matters. :animesmil The most annoying commercial I remember was actually on the radio. It was for some stupid vacum where the idiot was saying, "Look honey! It's so powerful it can suck up the inversion!" Excuse me while I gag here, but that was so ridiculiously stupid that when ever I hear it again I turn the radio off. :animeangr Personally I think advertising has gotten so far out of hand that it bothers me to pay for cable as I am paying for that garbage to come to my home. And I noticed the other day that even the movie channels are editing out part of the movies they show so they have a longer slot between shows to advertise. And lets not forget all the new DVD's that won't let you skip all the annoying preview and commercials for their products, like it's not enough that you bought it they have to try and ram more stuff down your throat! :animeangr *end of ranting and raving* Too bad most commercials aren't cute anymore.
25. I didn't realize you needed one for a different forum, here it is again in the size you asked for 100width by 120height and without the name. It's one of the only pictures I have that is a dark theme. I'd be happy to make something else if you prefer a picture from a different anime. ^_^
