Abstinence only programs Yay or nay?
SunfallE replied to ChibiHorsewoman's topic in General Discussion
Personally I think that at least some form of education regarding sex is better than none whatsoever. Here in Utah there is no sex education. There is a high rate of teen's becoming pregnant here in Utah so it would be interesting to see if adding a sex education program to the cirriculum would make a difference. Otherwise unless the parents take the time to educate their children they are completely ignorant of the risks involved. I was lucky as my mother took the time to explain things to me when I was about 12 years old as she wanted me to be informed about the possiblity of becoming pregnant or getting sexually transmitted diseases and other good information to help me protect myself. Although I'm sure the current program could be improved I'm 100 percent sure that it's better than the current lack of any program here in Utah. -
Well for me the hardest task I've ever done is to beat the boss in the desert in Diablo II. He's a pain on normal level, downright annoying on Nightmare level, but on the Hell level you just want to strangle who ever made that boss and put it in the game. I lost count of how many times I died trying to beat him on the Hell level.

I lost my dog about 4 years ago, she got an infection and her poor body just couldn't handle it. We tried treating her at the vets but she was over 16 years old and although the medicine helped part of the problem they couldn't stop her liver from shutting down. :animecry: So instead of letting her suffer for several days while she slowly died we had her put to sleep. Boy did that hurt alot since she had been with us for so long. I stayed with her till the very end, it was one of the hardest things I have ever done, but she had been such a faithful pet and I couldn't abandon her in her last moments on this earth. We have another dog now as I believe you shouldn't give up on experiancing the joy a pet can bring you. Some of my friends refuse to get another pet as they don't want to ever be sad again. I'm glad I didn't listen to them as the dog we have now is the sweetest thing. :animesmil

Well I guess the best I could say is to wish you good luck in getting back in shape. :animeswea Personally I'm not in the best shape. I try to walk several times a week to get in a cardio workout, but that's about all I can do. I've got two types of arthritis and other than walking and swimming most gym exercises and other forms of workouts are just too damn painful for me. Though walking on a treadmill works just fine. I'm not weak though as I can handle lifting around 75 pounds, which for someone with arthritis is a lot. As for the diet aspect, well I am hypoglycemic so normal diets just make me sick, so I've no advise there either as what I eat is specific to keeping my bloodsugar up. Basically I would try to find a regime that works for you and stick to it. :animesmil

I've always enjoyed some of the older bands like Van Halen, Led Zeppelin, Motley Crew and Black Sabbath but I don't know if they are metal or hard rock.

I was visiting the reviews section of theOtaku the other day and I noticed that there aren't very many reviews on the various shows. I looked up the site guidelines and although they do give information on what to do it seems like they are a little too vauge. Reviews must be well-written with proper grammar and spelling. Along with articles, this is one of our most competitive areas. Over 90% of all submitted reviews are rejected. Reviews must seek to balance both a summary of the anime with an evaluation of it. The best reviews summarize for 30-40% and then evaluate for 60-70%. Often, reviews are rejected for summarizing 100% or evaluating 100%. As I was reading the review I noticed that some of them included sub-catagories like Story/Setting, Animation, Voice Acting, Music, Over all Opinion. I submitted a review myself, but since it hasn't been 48 hours yet I don't know if it was accepted or not. Basically I think it would help if there was a more specific guideline of exactly what you are looking for in a review. I am sure that many fellow members are like myself. We have a good opinion, but don't have the specific skills or understanding of how to write reviews. Maybe a format with sub-catagories would be a good idea. :animeswea
does any body know when the release date for this game is because i keep hearing june but my friends are saying november of next year so if someone could tell me when its relase date is i can set a reserv foor it and get it. :animeangr
It's definately coming out this year as nintendo's site has its Release Date: Holiday 2005. So I'm guessing that means it will be out before christmas. But they could always change their minds. The new trailer definately looks awesome, I was a bit surprised by Link turning into a wolf. Talk about a strange twist! Though I shouldn't be surprised since Link turned into other stuff in Majora's Mask. :animeswea I'm still not sure about it having voice though. I just can't imagine Link having a voice. Unless they do what Generic NPC #3 mentioned and use a made up language. Either way it will be interesting to see. :animesmil

I've never had anyone break into my home, but a while back there was a robbery and the guy just out right shot the cashier in the head and killed her. It was a bit freaky as the cops were all over the neighborhood searching for him. I remember making sure all my doors and windows were locked so I wouldn't find him hiding in the house later. He actually ran another direction and they found him a few blocks over from my place. I definately would give your dog a super treat. ^_^ I have a Bichon Frise, which translates into a tiny 14 pounds of fluff. She growls and barks at anyone who comes in the yard even if she can't see them. As long as the person doesn't see her, my dog sounds like she will chew you up and then spit you out. She even growls at me until she realizes it's me in the yard. LOL I don't keep any weapons in the house, but I did get some training in how to use pretty much anything as a weapon. I bet if a burglar does break in he or she will be surprised by being attacked by a chair or whatever is closest.

Here in Utah, USA you have to be 21 to drink. Personally I've never cared for alcohol. I did end up having some vodka when I was only 15 cause some friends put it in the punch and I didn't realize it. All it did was make me sick though. Even though I can drink if I feel like it, I just don't care for it. It smells and tastes terriable. I also avoid it as my older brother was run off the road by a drunk driver. He was in a coma for 3 months before he died. He never came out of the coma. :animecry: Seeing someone die pretty much cured me of ever wanting to actually drink. It's just not worth it in my opinion. I will occasionally use alchohol t to cook with but that's about it.

Personally I don't care for prom, but eveywhere I have lived prom night has meant lots of stupid teenagers causing nothing but trouble. Take last week for instance. I was on vacation with my family in West Yellowstone as we were visiting the park. Well they had their prom night while we were there. And although I am sure there are plenty of teenagers who don't cause trouble we had to put up with drunk drivers all evening *some even wrecked and were killed* Plus some of them got the bright idea to buy chocolate shakes and drive around and thow it onto cars in the parking lots of the hotels. Naturally they nailed my brother's truck and my dad's car. Then there were the groups driving around and using any and evey puddle to soak any tourist who was walking next to one. *forchantely I missed getting soaked* So although I'm sure it may be fun for some, it's always been a big pain in the neck for me.

Well I'm pretty sure I've commented on what a great place this is before, but now that I've been a member for just a little over two months I look back and realize that it's far more amazing that I could have ever anticipated. At first I enjoyed it as the people posting here were having actual discussions instead of the usual, one word, broken english or other spamming I saw on most of the forums I had been to. As Otaku America put it. It was definately a breath of fresh air. But then I started to explore a little further into the other aspects of Otaku. Like theOtaku and myOtaku. theOtaku is absoutely amazing with all the stuff you have access to: Articles, Cosplay, e-cards, Fan Art, Quizzes, Reviews and Wallpapers. I love checking out the new info and stuff there. ^_^ myOtaku is also absoutely amazing. Once I figured out how some of the stuff worked, having an online journal that you share with friends and family is so much fun! I don't think there are words capable of describing just how amazing this place is. In many ways, it's like an online community and family that you didn't even realize existed. So to those of you who created this amazing place you have my eternal grattitude. ^_^

What deep thought or quote do you think of regularly?
SunfallE replied to Kyoko Makashiro's topic in General Discussion
The quote I think of most regularly is "Don't sweat the small stuff because it is all small stuff." When I was in grade school the major problems in my life, like not having the "in" toy, is now just silly to look back at. As I go through life I realize that the things that were major stresses in my life weren't really that major. Math tests in elementary school. At the time, major worry. Did getting some of the problems wrong really change my life? Nope. But at the time it sure felt like the world was crashing down around me. Breaking up with my boyfriend in high school. End of the world? Nope. Life just keeps on a truckin' along. In the cosmic scheme of things, there are very few things that really need to be that concerned about. ;)
Sounds like a quote I need to add to the ones I think about. I have to agree, there are very few things that really need to be stressed over.
Everyone needs to stay on topic here. The topic is what deep thought or quote do you think of regularly...not why I think your quote or thought is stupid. Everyone who has gone off topic is being warned. If you continue to break the rules and take this thread off topic and/or insult other members your account will be banned. This is going to be my only warning in this thread. Please stay on topic. -Panda
Sorry Panda! I removed my last two posts. Seems like I was forgetting one of my favirote quotes. "Everyone has the right to disagree." *in a nice way of course* :animeswea -
Well I don't know if this is a technical problem or not but when I come to OtakuBoards there is a small box at the top that says: Counter code has changed. Please update your code. bravenet web services. If I click on it it pulls up a page that says: We were unable to find the requested counter. For additional assistance, visit our Help Center. I've been a member for two months and this is the first time I've ever seen this box before. Is there something I need to fix? Or is it a problem with OB? Edit: I also get this when I go to theOtaku.com and myOtaku.com as well.

The stupidest thing I ever heard was from a former friend when I was talking about making a 'spawn' disk (I think that's what they call it when you make a copy so you can network) Some games let you do that so you don't have to go and buy another disk in order to play a networked game. It's been long enough that I don't even remember what the game is. Anyway, the main reason I remember it is because the idiot told me you can't copy a game disk. At this time CD-burning technology wasn't mainstream yet, at least not in Utah anyway. He even went so far as to tell me that you couldn't burn music on CD's either. So I asked him how it got on there in the first place? After all games and music don't just magically put themselves on a disk. He didn't have an answer for that one.
I guess that I am weird for this, but my favorite weather are thunderstorms and tornadoes. The tornadoes make pretty colors in the sky. I remember in first grade that the skies turned from a light blue to a purplish black mist color...really sweet...the destruction of the fallen trees around the area were really awesome. (Just so you know...I lived in Illinois where there were a lot of tornadoes...but they never really touched the ground)
I kind of like tornadoe weather too. It's really beautiful how the sky changes colors. As long as it doesn't touch down near homes and such I love watching a tornadoe in action, I don't know why but I love watching them. As for regular weather well rain is nice so long as it's not cold. But beyond that I love hot sunny days. I have arthritis and hot weather just feels so good. I have central air in my house, but I love sitting out in the shade on a hot day to soak up the warmth. :animesmil On the other end of the spectrum, I hate snow. I mean it is pretty, but I hate living in it or driving in it. My idea of snow is to go somewhere for a week vacation at a mountain lodge and then to turn around at the end of the week and go back to the nice warmer weather.

Well the town I live in has nothing, and I do mean nothing, no movie theater or anything. Just a local pool and park. So the best "place in town" for me is not in town. Unless we get together at my house to watch movies or something. But mostly me and my friends like to go to the closest national park for hiking and fun. And one of the closest is Arches National Park. Edit: I fogot to mention that if we want to go somewhere in town then we have to travel around 20 miles to reach a movie theater and 45 to get other places like dance clubs and such.
Wow... It absolutley amazes me at how greedy/stingy some people are. Absolutley incredible.... :animesigh But anyways, I would spend a good majority of it on my friends/family. THEN.... I would spend the rest on BS. Also, just dropping this in quickly.... it's been about a year literally since i have been on the forums. If any new rules or anything has come about please send me a private message (somebody) and let me know.
I can't say I agree with that statement. Sure it sounds good to spend it on friends and family, but is that a good thing? I mean I have good friends I would just give some of the money too. But family or bad friends? For example, one of my brothers is a drug addict and I would never give him anything as I know exactly what he would spend it on. And I have other family and relatives who are just as bad as he is. *It would take too long to describe :animesigh * I personally would take care of my own needs, like a home, retirement plans and then with what was left I would buy things I want like anime DVD and manga. I would also give some to a few select friends and family.

Well I've never seen the show, but sounds like these people's addictions are more like an obssesion. I can't say that I have an addiction that would require intervention. I mean I'm pretty good at setting a time limit for what I like to do so it doesn't interfere with work or other stuff. As for people being cured by the Interventions, well I personally believe that unless the person really wants to change, you can try to intervene, but in the end they will just go right back to their addiction. I've seen too many people in destructive addictions that never get out even with help.

I'm about to ask the woman i love to marry me
SunfallE replied to Lightwing's topic in General Discussion
boo ya! Everyone is gloriously eccentric here! The advice I would give, is find out if she wants to get married BEFORE you do the proposal thing. I'm sure if you have been with her three years you will know that by then. Once you know the answer will be yes, find a time when she is least expecting it to pop the question. Girls love a surprise.

Oh God yes man....find out if she wants to get married...or if it'll even work out...Im mean love is truely awsome, but it may not work out at that time in life. No doubt do to whatever career choices either of you make. You may feel that your best chance is to go to college at one end of the country while she feels her best option is 100+ miles away from you. That would throw your palns out of wack. I'd say congrats for wanting to put planning on it...even though the spontatious usually has the best results. I'm thinking fresh out of highschool isn't the best of times to just get married...try living with each other first...and see what the college education plans are...then you can think about popping the question more seriously
Okay I'm totally impressed here with the suggestion to see if she wants to get married. *my opinion of just how cool people here are just increased exponentially. I mean I was already impressed, but now even more!* Anyway, I would definatly make sure she is interested in marriage. Speaking from experiance I know lots of girls who want careers and want to work on achieving goals before they become married or have kids. Myself being one of them. I've said no to proposals to get married because my boyfriend just couldn't understand why I wasn't happy with just being a Mom. Nothing personally against mothers, I just don't want to be one. And I do like kids, so long as they are someone else's kids. :animeswea So I agree with Xander Harris and Geloog Pilot definately see how she feels about marriage. :animesmil By the way-I'm not a teenager-But I'm definately eccentric ^_~ -
I like manga, yes, but I would never say it's the best kind of book you can read. It certainly is different, with the fact that it's written in a similar style to a book yet has the look of a comic, but really, if you think that manga could be more preferred over a novel, let's say, than you obviously haven't had much quality reading in your lifetime. Now before you all start typing out hate mail, I'm only giving my opinion, and I haven't really read any manga that I would prefer over a nice thick book. Also, Dragonracer said that manga has more imagination and fantasy than books written in America. You probably just haven't been reading the right books, because to this day, I have not found a manga that could be put before a good old fashioned picture-less book. No, I don't have anything against manga, I like it just as much as any of you here. I just don't hold it over all other forms of literature.
I agree with you although manga is fun to read it really just doesn't compare to a regular book. Now if someone said manga is way better than a regular comic book then I would agree one hundred percent. I've yet to find a regular comic book that I could make myself finish reading. I also agree that manga doesn't have more imagination and fantasy than books. There are quite a few authors who do a superb job with imagination and fantasy, for example: The Sword of Shannara series by Terry Brooks. A basic magic sword type of series. The Valdamar series by Mercedes Lackey. Another series about magic and fantasy. The Belgariad series by David Eddings. Yet another series about magic and fantasy. I would recommend these series to anyone, espically the one by Mercedes Lackey, she's a very talented author. I really enjoy manga, but when I'm looking for a more serious read I look elsewhere.

Although I don't agree with it, I kind of agree with James among consenting adults who are we to police what they do? But among those unwilling or too young it definatly should be illegal. Just like it's illegal to have a sexual relationship with someone under a certain age. Being related shouldn't matter in that type of situation. So under that circumstance I think it should be illegal. As for cousins, well can't say I find that all to appealing either. >.< I know depending on what level whether it's first, second or so on, it's legal to marry a cousin. But again, ewww! >.< I guess I should mention most of my cousins are nuts! So I can't imagine having a relationship like that with them. :animesigh

What deep thought or quote do you think of regularly?
SunfallE replied to Kyoko Makashiro's topic in General Discussion
Well the thought that I've been thinking about alot lately is: Resentment is letting someone live in your head rent free. I suspect that's because one of my trainers at work is impatient, rude, and very negative, so I've been trying to not let her get to me. :animeswea -
I drive a white 1996 Geo Prism. It's not a flashy car, but it's very reliable. My brother had it before me and I bought it off him two years ago. It's got 112,000 miles on it and other than a new battery and water pump it's never had any problems. Only drawback is that the opening to the trunk is narrow so even though there is room larger items won't fit through the opening.

Thanks for your help Panda! :animesmil I'll go ahead and re-submit it and I'll be sure to recheck the specs to make sure it fit the guidelines. I thought I had but I may have missed something. :animeswea That's sad that people steal others hard work. I have no ability to draw but I can't imagine taking credit for someone else's hard work. My sister draws Sailoor Moon Fanart so I know just how much work can go into producing one picture. She's really good at it and some of her works have taken hours to perfect. Every wallpaper I've made has been done by using software to screen capture pictures off the series DVD's and then I've used other software to put them together. I don't use any images off the internet since as you pointed out it's not mine. I may download and use them as backgrounds but I never use any of the images I've downloaded when making a wallpaper. Edit: Wow! that was quick! I re-submitted the missing wallpaper and also another one I made and they have both been approved! ^_^ hehehe it's been so much fun to make them! I've had the pictues for months but not the software to finish making them. Now I just need to find software for making greeting e-mail cards and avatars and banners and I'll be set! Thanks again for your help Panda, as I've said before you moderators here at OB are awesome! :D

I've a quick question about submitting wallpapers. I submitted 5 in the past two days, 4 have already been accepted. I was wondering if the 5th one got lost as I noticed on myotaku site that where it shows how many wallpapers you have it included the ones that haven't been approved yet. Like it would say you have 4 when only 2 had been approved. My site has never shown that I have 5 so I wondering if that meant the submission got lost. It hasn't been more than 24 hours yet, but since the others worked that way I was wondering why this one didn't. Anyway, since it tells you to wait up to 48 hours should I wait and then re-submit the wallpaper?
