1.
*minor spoilers for Xenogears* I was just restarting Xenogears and I'm at the part right after Fei blows up Lohan. Fei had lived in Lohan for three years. During that time, he befriended all of the villagers, played with the kids, and was apparently just a joy to be around. Everybody seemed to like Fei. When gears attacked the village, the guy had rissen to fight against what he thought were enemies from the neighboring country raiding his village. However, during the fight, the gear that he was fighting in malfunctioned (as far as Fei and the villagers know at that point) and blew away the village. When he woke up to find the survivors, there were no comforting words from the villagers that he had befriended, nor was there a hesitant yet inevitable exile. Instead, they bluntly called him a murderer and all but drove him out. Over-dramatization, anyone? *end spoilers* Lets say that a cop fires at a group that's about to execute a hostage. But something's wrong and the hammer locks. A few seconds later, while the gun was pointing at the ground, the hammer unlocks and the bullet ricochets and hits tightly compressed gas heater. The bullet causes a spark that causes an explosion that take out that section of the room and four hostages with it. One dead hostage's dad is standing outside. How do you think that he'd react if he were your average half-way sensible 35 year old man? Sure he'd be mad at the cop, but he'd realize that it was a malfuntion from the weapon of a man that was trying to save his kid's life and the unfortunate chain of events that followed that killed his kid, not the incompetence or malice of the cop. And what about anime's general view on war? If you've ever watched any Gundam besides G, you know that it portrayes war as some clash of human emotions, just causes, and revenge. All I've got to say is SENSE WHEN?! War is just a bloody and expensive business transaction. The rich guys use their influence to send a bunch of soldiers to kill people so that they can gain what the targets have. Every war that I can think of was either a grab for power, influence, and territory and/or a grab for another nations rescources. WWII was Hitler's attempt at gaining control of Europe, the Crusades were the church's attempt to expand their influence, Desert Storm was Iraq's attempt at gaining territory and rescources, the American Civil War was a the attempt by a few men at snatching territory for their own country. In the most recent case of the war in Iraq, America wants oil deals and another foot hold in the Middle East. To glorify war as something more than one entity's attempt to gain profit is stupid and a show of just how gullable people are when it comes to the forked silver tongues of politicians. There are a lot of other things that anime screws up in on the regular basis as well. When was the last time that you saw an actual couple stay in the shy stage for months on end? When they become close, don't the outer walls pretty much drop? Or when was the last time that you ran into a semi-intelligent person that could have their entire life philosophy destroyed by an *** kicking and one stupid speech? The list goes on. I'm still a fan of anime, but I think that anime "realism" is given more credit than it deserves. Can you honestly call these views on life realistic?
I would have to argue that on some level the views are very realistic. Take the first example from Xenogears. Regardless of whether or not it was an accident, all they knew is that his attempts to help resulted in destruction. There are always going to be people who in the initial dispair of loss will find someone else to blame. Realistically in such a situation after time there will be some of the people who after things have settled down would realize that their blame was missplaced and will try to make up. In general we are talking about a herd mentality here, people will react and do things in a group that they would never do if alone. For the second example about a cop trying to help a hostage. Can you honestly believe that the Dad is not going to blame the cop? Very few people can think rationally when they have lost a loved one. Having lost one myself I know just how painful that is. Such powerful emotions are difficult to handle and for some people the only answer is to find blame. There are some who would blame the person who took them hostage and then there are those who will blame the cop claiming he didn't handle the situation properly. This I know from my uncle who is a sherriff. It has amazed me the amount of people who absoutlely refused to even consider it was an accident in such situations. Now as for the war view. Yes I agree war is an excuse for others to take what isn't theirs. Yet within that war there will be good people caught up in it that for them it is a clash of emotions, just causes and revenge. Take WWII with Hitler. It was a power play for him to take over the world and the people he dragged into it were people fighting to save others *a just cause* and those who wanted him dead for the people he caused to be killed *the revenge angle* If you are looking for a different anime war movie try watching "Now & Then, Here & There" It does have some werid anime twists, but it does accurately potray just how senseless war really is in a way. Fair warning though it is a bit intense unlike the other series. Now about a couple staying shy for the first few months, that is something that happens far more than you might think. So many people get married because they think they should and so many get married without truly knowing if they love the person they married. It's part of why the divorce rate is so high. So I don't find the idea of a couple being shy at first unexpected. In fact I bet it happens alot. Espically in religious situations where children are expected by parents and peers to get married at a young age, before they are mature enough to truly handle such a life changing event. Now having your philosphy distroyed by one speech. That too is common. So many people grow up stating beliefs that they never developed on their own. They are simply following what they have heard others say. So many people have belief systems and philosphy that they never challenged or tried to expand. It's easy to knock someone down someone who's philoshpy is not firmly placed. How else could so many people stay in destructive relationships? Their sense of self is dependant upon others opinions. As for my opinions about this, I've based most of the responses upon personal experiance and what I learned in my Ethics class and Psychology classes. Now in general, based on what you have said it sounds like you are the type to question and not take things at face value. I'm glad to see that. It's nice to see people who would think things through instead of immediatly blaming others for how things have gone in their lives. :animesmil Sometimes it seems like there aren't enough people like that. :D
 2. If you haven't decided yet I too would recomend getting this anime series. It is primarily for girls but it's definalty fun for guys too. As other's have said it's funny, has a bit of romance, a werid sci-fi twist where there are characters who are cursed. Every time they are hugged by the opposite sex or their body is weak *like from being really sick* they transform into different animals from the chinese zodiac. It's the type of series that just draws you in. Plus it has good english dubbing as well. This series is cute, funny, and downright loveable. In fact I've used it to introduce people to anime in general and so far everyone I've shown it to have loved it. I definalty recommend it.
 3. I guess it would depend on what the weather cycles are like where you live. Where I am it isn't unusual for us to have seven to fifty years of warmer than usual weather followed by seven to fifty years of colder weather than usual. We also go through drought and wet cycles that fit that pattern too. I'm not familar with where you live, but does your region go through cycles as well? Perhaps that's what's going on.
 4. I've never had a first love. I've had plenty of first crushes and people who it could have developed into love, but never a first love so to speak. The only true love I have experianced is the love for a cherished friend and for a cherished family member. Although I cared for some of the guys I dated, we never did get to the point where I felt that deeply for them. I liked them but didn't love them. I can imagine what it must be like though as I can't imagine my life with out the friends and family I love and care for. :animesmil
 5.
I have been missing the ocean so freaking badly lately, and it somehow got me thinking about elements and personality. I'm sure that most of you have stumbled across those quizzes like "What element represents you?" at some point, or have seen the question as part of another quiz, so I'm going to take it just a little further. Because I can't choose just one element to identify with, I'm assuming that people usually identify with several, so I think it would be cool to find out which elements you identify with and why. And I will use the standard four (earth, air, fire, and water)-- plus light and shadow-- to choose from. I'm looking forward to reading your responses, and I'll post mine once the thread gets going a little.
Hmmm in some ways I feel like I identify with all of them, However some far more than others... Fire-I would say is proably the strongest I associate with since in many ways I'm the type to be very passionate about what I believe in Dark-I would say is the next strongest, not because I have a dark personality, but rather I'm not the type to run from it. In many ways I'm not afraid of the darker parts of my self *sorry if that's confusing* Air-I would say is the third one I strongly associate with. I love the fluid flow and feel of air and to me it seems like an element that takes you anywhere. And though people have told me I'm strange for saying this: I love Tornadoes. I think they are beautiful. Water-Although I love water, espically the ocean, I don't feel as deeply connected to it. Espically the Ice side of water... I really hate being cold. Earth-I'm kind of neutral on this one. I love mountains and such but it's more like a calm reminder that nature is grand. I enjoy nature, but don't want to be one with it. Light-This is the one I definatly feel is not me. I just can't see myself being the type to focus exclusively on goodness or purity. I tend to be more cynical in nature.
 6. I'm a tiny bit embarrased to admit that I accidentaly signed up for it as I thought it was the forum OtakuBoards. *sigh* A fact that I quickly realized, but I just kept the account anyway. I've played with it a little bit but I haven't actually done any posting on my site. Other than an into and two quiz results. Sadly my computer experiance is more with solving software and hardware issues when it breaks down. I'm not very good with how stuff works on the internet or with running websites. So half of what you can do I'm not even sure how to do it. It took me a while just to figure out how to do signatures. *though I'm learning :animesigh * I've been checking out your sites and seeing just what yourOtaku is used for. It looks like alot of fun. But I've never been the type to keep a journal so who knows what I'll end up using it for.
 7. Hatsuharu from Fruits Basket is proably fits my character more than any other I've seen. Espically his "Black Haru" side. I was always doing that. Didn't matter who it was teachers, strangers, anyone who pushed the right buttons got nailed. It's like something inside just snaps and you don't care what trouble you get in as long as you clobber the person who was pushing your button. Heck, I even beat up my second grade teacher. I can laugh about it now but serisously I'm lucky I didn't kill her. She was pretty mean. She would pull your hair to punish you if you did anything wrong. I don't know the word for it, but I've always had the problem that when my hair gets pulled it's painful. I don't even wear ponytails as the pull from that gives me a headache. Needless to say one day when she pulled it again I decided right then and there to let her see what it felt like to be picked on. So I waited till lunch and when no one was around placed marbles on the floor in the hallway. When she came out she slipped on them and fell. She hit her head so hard on the floor it knocked her out. And being a kid, I never thought she was really hurt so I went over, picked up the marbles and just left her laying there on the floor. She was gone from school for two weeks to recover. I never told anyone till after I graduated from High School. It wasn't until I was older that I realized how serious that could have been. :animesigh I still get the personality snap and want to clober people, but being an adult I always think it through first and rarely do anything to people anymore. But to this day, I still have elememtary teachers who remember who I am even though it's been over 10 years. :animeswea
 8. I sure everyone can guess mine just from my avatar and signature. Zelda has always been my favirote RPG series. I never get tired of playing Zelda. I like the hero rescuing a princess from evil theme and I think Zelda captures that style quite well. I also love Lunar Silver Story and Lunar II. The anime cut scenes for these two games just bring the whole story alive. Plus it's full of interactions between the characters that make it fun. So many series don't put enough into the relationship between characters. I like that aspect of this series. I'm also a Final Fantasy fan as well. FF8 is my favirote, but only because it was the first FF game I ever played. I really liked the concept of summoning Guardians to help you fight battles. There are alot of others that I really like but those three are definatly my favirotes. edit: I wasn't sure if you meant me too in your post James, but regardless I added a bit more, I hope this makes my post better. :animesigh espically since I agree that just listing the games is a pointless post. :D
 9. I just saw this series for the first time this week and I have to say I absoutely love it. It's beautifully animated and the manga is equally as beautiful. I also love the music. I think the opening song is one of the most beautifully done songs I have ever heard in an anime series. But proably what I love the most is how it doesn't center on nothing but conflict. Sometimes it gets so old to have nothing but endless fight scenes. *I love Fruits Basket for the same reason* Also, I love how some of the episodes explore the depths of relationships and how people intereact with one another. Like the episode about Daisuke's mother and father and how they ended up together. In that respect this series seems to me to be more directed towards adults. Although I've only seen the first 12 episodes and read the first 6 books I can't wait to see the rest! :animesmil
 10.
To everyone else: Would you want to become a staff member, and of so, which post would you want?
Although I am certain I could be a good moderator I would never be one. Usually I barely have enough time to read and post replies. :animesigh And although this is a bit off topic I mainly responded to this thread as I wanted to comment on how amazing the moderators here are. I have truthfully avoided forums as they are usually full of spam and poorly monitored. I can honestly say I have yet to find a forum as well run as this one is. For example: just a few days ago a new member joined *I won't say who* but this person was absoutly annoying and rude and one of the moderators *I think it was Dagger* stopped the new member's posts and rude comments quickly. I was very impressed. I love coming to this forum as 99% of the time I visit I never have to deal with the jerks out there as the moderators do such a good job of keeping them under control. :animesmil
 11. Although I was raised as a Mormon by my parents I haven't belonged to any religion for 8 years. I don't even consider myself Mormon. Truthfully I believe that religion is unnecessary. I don't know how to explain it as I only know that I have no desire to be part of any secular religion. Religion to me has always seemed to be a means for fitting in with what ever culture you feel most comfortable with and I deeply dislike the idea that to fit in you have to be part of a religious group. It's hard to explain but I prefer to know and be part of people's lives because of who they are and not what they belong to or rather believe in. Sorry if I make no sense. :animeswea
 12.
Yeah, I'm kinda thinking "what moral decay"? You mean, now that women don't have to live at home and be beaten while their husbands enjoy immunity? Children can no longer be abused in as much silence as during the 50's? Women aren't giving up their 'illegitimate' children because of how society might reflect on them? I mean, geeze...lol Crimes against women and children and so on aren't really going up, it's just that these days they are reported far more. Society was very messed up and depraved during the 50's and before that -- a lot more than it is today. I don't know why anyone would hold up that era as being some gold standard of morality. The same stuff happened back then, but it was dealt with under the table and in a completely irresponsible manner. So, yes, we can see more of our society's warts today...but at least we are aware of what's there and we can talk about it openly and try to fix it.
I completely agree. I think that the concept of 'moral decay' in unrealistic. A lot of schools completely ignore a lot of history as it is considered too violent to teach to children and teenagers. I was quite surprised when I took classes in college at how much crime, violence and lack of morals that existed through out history. I forget which period it was when it was considered wrong to spill blood so they figured out ways to torture people with out breaking the skin. I could spend hours discussing the stuff that has happened. In a sense I believe that our morals have actually improved instead of decaying. People are no longer willing to ignore violence and pretend it doesn't happen. They no longer just turn their backs. I think it appears to be decaying because it's no longer treated like it never happened. In my opinion people today are more morally responsible than they have ever been.
 13. I've had one vision and several dreams that have come true. The vision was about my brother who had been in a car accident and was in a coma. When my Mom was driving us to the hospital to visit him. I saw an vision of a person being taken out of a hospital room in a black body bag. 10 minutes later when we arrived at the hosiptal we found out that my brother had died at almost the exact time I saw the vison. I was young and thought that somehow I had killed him because of my vision. It took a while for my Mom and the doctors to explain to me that I couldn't possibly be responsible. A few years later my grandmother was really sick and in the hospital. At the time they expected her to recover. She had even been moved from the hospital to my Aunt's house to finish recovering. A few nights after she was at my Aunt's house I dreamed that I was there visiting her. In the dream my grandma got out of bed and told me that it was time for her to leave. I tried to get her to lay back down but she started floating in the air and literally flew through the wall of the house as if she was a ghost. I ran to the window and jumped out to follow her. My gradma turned around when I called to her to stop. She then told me tell everyone that she loved them. She then flew up into the sky until I could no longer see her. I was yelling at her to come back in the dream when I woke up. I found out later that day that my grandma had passed away during the night. I have had a few other dreams that came true, but none of them were as shocking as the vision of my brother and the dream of my grandmother.
 14. I can't say that I don't believe in ghosts, dragons, and such. There is so much in this universe that we don't know and don't understand. I personally think such things proably do exist somewhere. Maybe not on Earth or even in our universe, but in another reality different from ours. Until someone comes along with absoulte scientific proof that such things don't exist I will always believe they do. And since we as a race are so limited in our knowledge of what's truly out there, I sersiously doubt anyone will be able to provide the proof that they don't exist. I myself have never had any experiance with any ghosts or dragons or faeries but one thing my education has shown me is just how much we don't know. No matter how much I have learned there is always so many things I still haven't learned and there is even more things to be discovered.
 15. It's kind of sad how people assume with out even bothering to actually find out the truth. I went to the bookstore to buy the first two books in D.N.Angel today and a married couple was there in the store with their kid. When the mother saw what I had she asked her husband what it was. He actually told her that it was Japanese sex and porn novels and that everyone in Japan read them all the time. It was really sad to see them make such an assumption. Yet at the same time it was so riduculous that I couldn't stop myself from laughing at them. *though that had alot of people staring at me, and yet the more people who stared the funnier it became* Anyway, If it really was porn like they thought was it wouldn't be sold here. Utah has a law against porn being sold here in the stores. Forchantly not all the people here are that stupid. But if you know anything about Utah then you can imagine just how closed minded they are about anime and manga. My family isn't, but then my aunt use to live in Okinawa, *yes my spelling sucks, sorry* and my parents aren't from Utah either. so I've been exposed to Japanese culture for a very long time.
 16. Well since there are so many I'm only going to list the first games I ever played by Squaresoft and Enix. The first one I ever played by Squaresoft was The Secret of Mana-It was such a fun game to play. I espically loved how you kept getting more and more different spells to use. I also loved it because you could play with someone else. My brother and sister both loved to get together with me and play this game. The next one was Secret of Evermore by Squaresoft-This too was alot of fun. The idea of being transported to another world and then for that world to have different ages of technology was facinating. I liked the spells in that one too. I loved how it ended too. *I won't spoil it for those of you who haven't played this game* The first game I ever played by Enix was Illusion of Gaia-I liked this game so much that I still take it out and play it occasionally. I like how the main character transforms into different warriors and I love the music for this game. Some of the dungeons were really cool. Like the one in the air that you solve both the top and bottom side to continue. :D
 17.
Wow, really? I didn't notice, since I never got hit during the final battle in MM. (Fierce Deity's Mask for the win. :animesmil) I keep thinking I should go back and fight Majora without the Fierce Deity's Mask some time, but I just never get around to it. MM just doesn't really do it for me in the way of dungeons and fighting; best thing about the game is the character interaction.
LOL I found out the hard way since I was unable to get the fierce diety mask at first. I couldn't pass the section as a Goran at the end. I kept falling off until I realized that once you were going straight you didn't need to steer. Plus without the fierce diety mask the advice you get from the fairy just gets you beaten up. *sigh* Unless I am absoutly completely stuck I am the type to not follow guides or look online for help as I like to figure out as much as possible by myself. So I had the game for several months before I actually got the fierce diety mask. Each and every Zelda game has it's points I love about it. In Ocarina of Time I loved the time travel aspect, fighting as an adult and as a kid. In Majora's Mask I loved the 3 day repeat and having to figure out how one action affected another aspect of the game. Or how certain things could only be done on certain days. In the Wind Waker it was the new landscape. I thought the idea of being on a vast ocean and searching for treasure was a refreshing change. The new game looks so amazing and I can't wait to find out what points they continued to use and I can't wait to try the new ones, like fighting on horseback. It will feel strange since you were always invincible on horseback before. :D
 18.
stupid americans!!!! no offence but they are the ones that sub them and cut them so sorry if i offended you but its the truth!!!!! ------------------------------------ i think ive made my point
I'm not offended, but people tend to forget that 99% of us Americans have absoutely no say what so ever in the sub or as to what is cut. Believe me you will find that most of us who love anime want to strangle them too. *sigh* As for anime dying, well I'm old enough to remember how anime has gone from having a very small audience to having millions of fans. It's great to see that so many series are now coming to America. I also remember when what little anime seen on TV was nothing more than a few series that were majorly edited as well. Anime has grown exponentially here in America. We have gone from having only a few series available to having hundreds to choose from in the past 25 years.
 19.
I also think they should get rid of the temporary invinciblity after you take damage, as well as removing it for monsters. (They headed in this direction with TWW, since you could do some nice sword combos and actually do damage with each hit. You just couldn't damage enemies that were knocked over.) If something manages to hit you 2+ times in quick succession, every hit should do damage, and the same when you're attacking enemies. That could help quicken the pace of combat and add some difficulty. The former was improved on in TWW (and I hope it's further increased with this new game), but the latter is still sorely lacking in the 3D games. But I still want some sort of indicator for which enemy I'm targeting. Would really be annoying without.
I agree that removing the temporary invinciblity would be a huge improvement. I think it would be more realistic that way. I mean they did it in the final battle with Majora's Mask. It made beating the game that much harder. Espically when the mask would toss Link accross the room several times in a row. Not only could you do nothing to block the attack, you took damage even though Link was flashing. It would definatly be a huge improvement so I hope they do the same with the new game. I agree with the targeting too. It would be totally annoying without it. Though when you watch the trailer, even though I don't see anything it does look like Link is targeting the enemy so it's proably included.
 20.
Basically, I'm mixed about the voice issue. Let's say, in a worst-case scenario, Nintendo puts horrible voices in the game. If they at least let me turn them off and just read text...then that'd satisfy me. Even Link's currently-existing adult voice (when he's slashing his sword and so on) really suits him. How would it sound when delivering dialogue? I don't really know.
I have to agree. If they do put a voice in for Link I hope they have enough sense to let you turn it off if you want. I'm too use to the existing voice for when he slashes his sword and such. It can be hard to play a game if the voice is really horriable. Yet at the same time if the game is good you will find yourself getting use to the voice. One of my favirote games had a voice that just drove me up the wall at first. But halfway through the game as the character's personality became more apparent it started to actually fit and it no longer bothered me. Part of me thinks a voice would be great and another part cringes at the mere idea.
 21.
I know I may get seriously murdered for this, but Inu-yasha is a big one on my dislike list. I just think that the series is drawn out too long and it takes too long to get to the point with series. It nearly seems as if they will never finish the story line. But it's just an opinion... so dun' hurt me! *Cowers.*
I actually agree with you about Inu-Yasha. I actually liked it at first and even collected the DVD's. Then they had to go and add Naruku to it and turn it into an anime soap opera. *at least that's what I think* Plus I think Kieko is annoying as well. I was really sad as I loved the series until they had to start dragging it out with those two in the series. I've quit watching it altogether as it's just too annoying in my opinion. Though I still like the episodes without those two.

Wow! Thanks! :animesmil It didn't occur to me that you could just trim the picture to avoid distortion, the other choice looks really cool too! I saved both of the images so I can use the other one later if I want. Thankyou so much! :D
 23. Lets see, I have had many setups over the years. First was the apple computer my Dad brought home from work. We got to play lots of games written by computer students preparing to graduate in Computer Science. Most of them were imitations of Arcade games like Pac-man, except the monitors had no color yet. Then we got the Nintendo system before SNES *can't think of what it was called as I no longer have it* We spent hours playing Mario games. SNES was next and I still have it and even play it on occasion. So many great RPG games like Secret of Mana, Illusion of Gaia, Seceret of Evermore and Zelda a Link to the past. N64 which in my opinion was a failure. Other than Zelda it didn't have any good RPG games. I still have it though as I enjoy playing my Zelda games. After my disappointment with N64 I switched to Playstation2 when it came out. Now that was a great buy. Not only did you get all the newest Playstation games but you could also enjoy the previous ones. Both playstation 1 and 2 have great RPG games. Like Final Fantasy, Hack and one of my absoulte favirotes the Lunar Series. Game Boy Advance SP I'm not a fan of the tiny screen but since I adore the Zelda series I got it just for that. And they also had a Lunar game and it's my second favirote series. You can also get Final Fantasy, but it's availabe on Playstation so I didn't bother as I prefer the bigger screen. GameCube Ironically this too was purchased just because of Zelda. Untill they came out with the Wind Waker I didn't even bother to get the system. Forchantly they have since then added some great RPG games like Tales of Symphonia and I can't wait till the newest Zelda comes out for this! Last but not least is my Computer. I love using the computer for games like Tomb Raider. You can get it for playstation but it just looks and plays so much better on a computer. There just isn't any comparison. Now, for my set up, currently I have the playstation2 and my gamecube hooked up through my amplifier. Plus I've got a flat screen 35 inch TV *at least I think that is the size* I have 5.1 digital surround and even though many of the games aren't in that my amplifier can simulate that environment. Plus I've got a good sub-woofer so It's alot of fun to play my games with my system. I've also got a smaller surround system that's hooked up to my computer for those games.
 24.
For some reason, my neurons aren't firing the way that they should be, so I'm not sure if I'll word this properly, but here goes If promised a large sum of money, say-- in the millions-- would you do something that you normally would be very opposed to (ie: something that goes against your personal moral code)? If yes, how would you justify going against your own morals for the sake of cash-- even lots and lots of it? And if not, why not?
Initally I would refuse such a request. No amount of money could make it worth going against your own moral code. However, I am sure that there are exceptions that would allow me to do such a thing. For example, what if you needed millions of dollars to pay for a surgery to save someone you loved? I'm not sure if I could say no if something like that were the case.
 25. I hate to ask since I usually do this myself. But I upgraded to Windows XP and my previous software was only compatable with Windows 98, sadly I'm too broke at the moment to get another software program. Basically I already have the avatar I want it's just too large. 160 x 160. I would like to have it resized to 80 x80. I know that avatars can be 150 x 80, but I don't want it to be distorted either. Anyway, if anyone could resize it for me I would be forever grateful. Thanks! :animesmil
