1. Tsukasa awakened Aura and set up the events of the .hack games. While I don't like Tsukasa much either, once again, that's not a character without a purpose.
2. For me, it has to The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion. Morrowind is my favorite game of all time. There were so many things to do, it would have been ridiculous if it weren't so much fun.It took me several hundred hours to do everything. Bethesda claims that Oblivion is going to be larger and more interactive than Morrowind, and that combat is going to be deeper. I can already see that its also going to be much better looking. And unlike Lionhead, Bethesda has shown an ability to back up their claims in the past. This is going to rock.
3. Last day bump. Good, Minako's winning this one. Nobody has any sort of comment? I know that I'm not the only Sailor Venus fanboy out there! Ah well. I guess its to be expected with an unknown like Najica in the mix.
4. Last day bump. Lacus is winning... not totally unreasonable, I guess. The Major is still better in my eyes, though.
5. If you want to be well liked with the "in" crowd, they usually like people with a crazy and random sense of humor. If you want to be well liked with the nerds, become a videogame master! Knowing stuff about programming won't hurt either. If you want to be well liked in general, just be nice in a non-geeky relaxed sort of way and show a bit of spunk along with that. Stand up for yourself without being an ***. Everybody respects that.
6. What?! Relena Peacecraft moved along half of the major plot points in Gundam Wing! She was responsible for just about every movement towards peace in the series! That's definitely not a character without a purpose! And what's wrong with Shippo, you ask? All he does is follow Inuyasha and company around and restate the obvious. The only time that he did anything useful was when he escaped from Koga to tell Inuyasha where Kagome was, and Kagome ended be able to handle herself just fine anyways.
7. 1. Age: 17 2. Gender: male 3. Where are you from? California 4. How did u come across anime? Toonami. 5. Do you think Anime influences you as a person? Every hobby influences the person that's into it. Anime is no different. As a matter of fact, I think that anime might affect you more as a person than most hobbies. With sports, you really just get into the sport and that's about it. With anime, there are story lines and characters to get to know, and I know that I've found myself picking up habbits from my favorite anime characters a couple of times. *snap* 6. Research shows that anime is increasingly popular with the western world. Why do you think this is so? Toonami and Adultswim have managed to give anime some publicity. Now that people know about it, they have the ability to like it. 7. What attracts you to anime? Deeper and more complex character developement and story. I also like action in some of the violent anime, but its secondary to the better characters and stories. 8. Is your interest in Anime, in any way related to an interest in Japan or to learn about Japenese society? Not really. I do have an interest in learning about Japanese culture though. One of my long term goals in life is to examine as many cultures as I can. 9. Have you taken a Japanese language class or been to Japan? No, but I'm going to Japan in September, assuming that no big bills come in between now and then. 10. Have you learned anything about Japanese culture, and if so, give 3 specific examples? Not so much from anime, but I know that the Japanese in general are generally more polite than most westerners. Drinking at a young age, while not encouraged, isn't as discouraged in Japan as it is here. Lastly, Japanese habbits are healthier than American habbits. Their meals are about half the size of American meals, and many of them choose to walk on short trips rather than drive.
8.
I don't download music anymore (which is due to the fact that I've more or less lost interest in music, not some kind of moral epiphany).
That's not cool! Good music is awesome... nothing is better at making time pass more smoothly when you're driving or working or whatever. If you're in to rock, give Rammstein or System of a Down a try, or maybe revisit some of the older Metallica CDs. (if you haven't heard any of the Master of Puppets-Black Album CDs, pick em' up) They might be able to rekindle your interest.
9. Its a classic problem. People tend to mistake for weakness, and most people like to take advantage of weaker people. Its good to be a nice guy, but sometimes you've got to go psycho on people that try to take advantage of your kindness to let them know that you're not going to be pushed around. Otherwise, people will continue to disrespect you because they know that you're too nice/weak to do anything about it.
10. My most recent is a level 50-something dark elf with daedric armor, those white enchanted gauntlet thingies (fists of something...), and no helmet. He uses an enchanted daedric dai katana.
11. I got Disgaia... fun game! I like those penguin guys. "Dood! Dood! Dood dood dood dood!"
12. Are you referring to main characters, or all characters? Because if its all, there are countless hoards of minor characters that didn't serve any real purpose. As far as main characters go, I'm gonna have to say Mihoshi from Tenchi Muyo. Cute character, and its been a while since I've seen Tenchi Universe, but I don't remember her playing an active role in the story or even doing anything worth mentioning. She was always just there. Also, Kumugi from Soultaker. Throw her in the same catagory as Mihoshi.
13.
I also fear dissapointing others (example: if I introduce someone to something they dont like i instantly appologise 3 or 4 times after). :(
I have a people problem too, to an extent. I hate it when I try to talk to the guy sitting next to me in the waiting room only to have him look at me like I'm crazy and rush to end the conversation. I hate people that have that get that dumb look on their face and turn sower whenever something goes slightly wrong. I hate it when people get rude for no reason whatsoever. And more than the other three, I hate it when people have no tolerance for anything, and get taken aback by harmless comments... when it seems like they're almost looking for an excuse to get offended. But just focus on relaxing, if that makes sense. Chill out, and take things as they roll in. Don't apologize if you introduce someone to a game they don't like, just say "eh, to each his own" or something to that extent. Don't freeze up at the party, just go hang out with your buddies and try to be friendly towards anybody that they introduce you to. Don't try to continue the conversation with the antisocial guy, its pretty obvious that he doesn't want it. Just relax.
14. Two people. The first is my Grandma. She whines at least two or three times every time we see her. "Well, my rash has been getting worse. I don't know if I'm going to be around this time next year." Yeah, you've been saying that for a decade now. Not to mention that she ruined our trip to Oregon with her fake heart attack. (which was really just an anxiety attack... I'm not joking) And when she's not whining, she's telling the most boring stories you will ever hear. "...and my niece said that she won't have pig for breakfest. And then my husband told her that they're having bacon. She said that's fine, but she won't eat pig. HAHAHAHAHAHA!" GRRRRR, STFU *****! Lately though, I'm less annoyed and more amused by her whining. Its just so pathetic that I can't help but laugh. My mom got mad because she left a message on our message machine saying thaat she wasn't feeling well and not to call her, and I started busting up laughing at how stupid she sounded. Her stories still piss me off, though. The second is this kid that I used to know, Westly. I'd heard about the guy before I met him. I knew that people often completely misjudged people with small quirks, so I decided to hang out with him on the dodgeball wall. He got mad when I nailed him in the stomach and left. What did he expect? Its dodgeball! My second encounter with this kid was in sixth grade on a basketball court that I just so happened to be passing through. "Get off of the basketball court or I'm going to tell the teachers on you!" "Free country." Instead of turning around, I kept going. I wasn't getting in his way, and through the basketball court just so happened to be the quickest way to getting where I was going. "That's it, I'm telling! Teacher, he's cussing!" "Hey Westly." He turned around and found his basketball hitting him in the face. Keep your words and actions soft and sweet, because someday you might just have to eat them. Pretty funny stuff, and it lead to me meeting one of my best friends. In eighth grade, Westly needed a ride home. I decided to give him another chance. After all, people do change and mature with time, and its not cool to assume that people aren't going to learn from their mistakes, especially when they've been so severely and constantly punished as Westly had been. (his trying to get kids busted for any minor rule breaking earned him a lot of enemies) I asked my mom if she could give him a ride. No problem. The next day, do you know what the first words out of his mouth were? It sure as hell wasn't a happy hello, or a thank you, or a tell your mom I said thank you."Your mom kinda looked like freak." WHAT THE HELL?! That's not the way that you respond someone going out of their way to keep you out of a strong storm. I don't think that I need to tell you what happened next. And just for the record, my mom doesn't look odd at all. Needless to say, I pretty much severed all ties with Westly after that. The only other time that I really interacted with Westly past that point was when he tried to get his payback by kicking me in P.E. class. That was the second to weakest kick I have ever felt by somebody my own age. (there was this Mexican kid that kicked me in the stomach after I refered to him as the fat kid when the girl that I was talking to mentioned Salistino... that little bastard made me laugh... he's alright) I kicked Westly's *** for the second time. And from what I've seen of him since then, he still hasn't changed. He is the most disrespectful and weak person I have ever met, as well as the most deserving of the punishment that he gets as a result. I hear that he's getting a lot of sympathy dates from the ladies these days. Don't you get it, girls? He doesn't deserve your sympathy. He's the one that makes life at school just a little less fun by playing spy, and the one that repays friendship by selling people out. (poor Chris... planning out and skipping a day of school shouldn't have been any of Westly's business, and he knew that Chris has strict parents) Don't reward the shrimpy bastard for being a shrimpy "bastard".
15. Tales of Symphonia was pretty fun, even if you could see every last plot twist 5-20 hours before you got to it. I guess you could put that alongside Star Ocean as a recent game worth mentioning. I was looking forward to Jade Empire too, but I've been hearing that its only about 20 hours long. Damn. Neverwinter Nights is one of those MMORPGs that you have to pay extra to subscribe to, right? As much as I'd like to play it, I don't have the extra money. Besides, I don't know that my computer would be able to handle a performance game like that. Multiplayer dungeon crawlers like Gauntlet get repetetive after a short while. That's why Final Fantasy Chrystal Chronicals isn't sitting on my shelf.
16. I didn't care much for Final Fantasy Tactics Advance. I couldn't get into the story. Diablo 2 is pretty fun, one of my favorites. I find myself going back to that one a lot. Fable is fun, but really short. Once you know what to do, you can easily beat it in under 10 hours, and get everything in about 25. Morrowind is my favorite game of all time. I've clocked a few hundred hours on it. There's so much to do in those games, it took me those few hundred hours to do everything. Unfortunately, once you get a bit of skill (enough to jump out of the way of magic attacks), get yourself a powerful weapon (you're powerful enough to find and pick up a daedric dai katana by level 5 or so... and that's the best you can get without enchanting) and learn the tricks of the trade (namely, that powerful enchanted items are your best friend), nothing in the original game can stand up to you, not even the "powerful" monsters in the expansion packs. I was a bit dissapointed by Knights of the Old Republic. Good and evil were determined by dailog choices of all things, and your character looked like **** if he was evil. On top of that, it just wasn't an in depth D&D game. I liked Baldurs Gate a lot more. Disgea and La Puculle sound like they might just be what I'm looking for though. I think that I'll check them out.
17.
Holy crap, Eternal Darkness was so freaky. I was looking through this whole thread hoping someone had mentioned it. Anyway, It definitely screws with your mind like you mentioned. Also one of the scariest moments is when [spoiler']you go in the bathroom in the mansion and you walk over to the bathtub and all of the sudden the whole camera shifts and you see yourself dead in a bathtub filled with blood. It stays like that for a few seconds and then the camera shifts back to the normal state.

Yeah, that scene startled me. I wasn't expecting to see that! There really weren't any other really creepy scenes though. Eternal Darkness is awesome. Its a must own for any Gamecube owner. I hardly ever get creeped out by games these days. The Suffering startled me sometimes when I was drowsy, and that's the only game that started me more than once or twice.
18. There's something that's really bothered me with this last generation of games: Most of them can be completed in under 20 hours! The only worthwhile game that I've played recently that gave me over 50 hours was Star Ocean: Till the End of Time. Are there any good, recent RPGs that can give me a good 40+ hours of gameplay?
19. It sounds like Jumangi meets a lugi board. Eh... at least it sounds better than Yu-Gay-Oh!
20. Its not rare at all for message boards to be slow at the late night/early morning hours, but this place straight out dies around midnight. Where are the nightcrawlers?
21. Match #2! My only rule is to not spam this up. Do not post just the name of the character that you're voting for! If you're going to post, make a point, even if its just a short, basic one. Motoko will win this one. Lacus Clyne is pretty popular with Gundam Seed fans, but The Major has a fanbase even among Ghost in the Shell haters. Motoko Kusanagi (Ghost in the Shell) (save the fanservice pic for next time) vs. Lacus Clyne (Gundam Seed) Motoko, definiately! She kicks ***! Her only problem is that she doesn't like the awesome Tachikomas. But we can forgive that, right? Lacus? Well... she sings. And she has a stupid idea on how to bring about peace. You might even say that she's a mellowed out version of Relena Peacecraft. Eh, Lacus is cute, but I like Cagalli more. I like Motoko more on looks as well.
22. And its time to officially get this thing under way! My only rule is to not spam this up. Do not post just the name of the character that you're voting for! If you're going to post, make a point, even if its just a short, basic one. My prediction? Minako's gonna win this one. Najica is an interesting character, but Sailor Moon is more watched and Sailor Venus is one of the more popular sailor senshi. Minako Aino/Sailor Venus (Sailor Moon) vs. Najica (Najica Blitz Tactics) My vote goes to Minako. She's funny! And also, she seems to assume the role of leader when Sailor Moon isn't around to take charge. On the other hand, Najica always seemed like a wannabe to me. She had a thing against killing people, but next to other people that share the same doctorine, she seems pretty damned insignificant. On the final note, Najica's cute, but Minako has her beat on looks, hands down!
23. If you came to find the rules and bracket for this tournament, or if you wanted to ask me something about it, or if you just wanted to talk about the tournament in general, you came to the right place! A link to the original nomination thread (where the participants were selected): Nomination Thread Not a bad amount of nominations! I cut some of the less popular characters (from lesser known anime, generally disliked, or just not cared about) to even the bracket out. I don't think that any of them would have won, anyways. Set Up Very simple. Just go to the latest tournament threads and vote for your favorites. Whoever has the most votes when I call the end is the winner. The winner will move on to the next round. The character that wins the last round will be the Otaku Board's official favorite anime girl! I'll be posting two threads and letting them run for a week before posting the next two, starting tonight. Thursday will probably be that night, though I'll be starting right after this. I'll pick up or slow down the pace as needed. (though there's a good chance that I'll stick to that format) The rest of it should self-explanatory. 2 matches every week + 31 matches = 16 weeks = aproximately 4 months. If anyone think that I should pick it up, just say so. Rules Also very simple. Just vote for your favorite and post something on the matter if you want. I'm going to make this point at the beginning of every thread in this tournament, but just for the sake of explaning the rules: Don't just post the character that you voted for's name. If you're going to say who you voted for, then explain why you voted for who you voted for, even if that explanation is just quoting someone that shares your sentiments. It doesn't need to be complicated. Even something as simple as "I voted for Asuka because she has a lot more spunk than Rei" or "I voted for Asuka because she has a lot of spunk" will work. So long as it has more substance than "Asuka" or "Asuka's better", its fine. Tie Breaker In the case of a tie, the win will be awarded to the character that has the most posters (not necassarily posts) posting in their favor. If that count is equal too, I'll be looking at which character had the better argument posted for them. If the arguments are equally good (or, god forbid, equally bad), I'll flip a coin with the first character being heads and the second character being tails. One last thing. The matches here will be clickable if the match has started. If the text is red, its a link. I think that I've hit all of the necassary foreplay. Time to list the bracket! If your nomination didn't show up here: 1. They were eliminated. If they were from a lesser known show, or are considered annoying or not really talked about, that's probably what happened to them. I actually missed a few characters my first time scanning the nominations (including Rei Ayanami and Lacus Clyne), and as a result, I lost count of how many characters I elminated to even things out. Oops. 2. I might have missed them, despite my double check. If that's the case, sorry, but I'm not changing the bracket. If you have anything that you want to say, feel free to speak up. Ask, and I will at least try to answer.
24. Fire Emblem preview Fire Emblem for GBA stands alongside Golden Sun one and two as the only real stand out GBA games, and it ties with Pokemon Silver as my favorite handheld game. I'm going to both very dissapointed and very pissed at Nintendo is this doesn't show up in the states.
