This is one of those polls that I always have to take on every anime forum that I hang out at... but I decided to wait on it because I was running my Best Anime Girl Tournament and there was another active Sailor Moon topic when I thought to ask. Anyways, who's your favorite sailor senshi and why? A lot of you already know that mine's Sailor Venus. She ties with Sailor Moon the most lively and spirited out of the bunch, but doesn't share Moon's initial incompetance and cry-baby attitude. Mars is second... her fire attacks and spiritual powers are cool. My least favorite is Chibi-Moon. Stuck up little brat... I would have whupped my kid's *** if she started getting a bossy attitude towards me. Mercury is also really overrated... she's not even combat-smart, all she does is restate the obvious. "We're in an illusion!" As if the fog and ridiculously wierd images floating around weren't clue enough. "The heat is real!" Yeah, I'm pretty sure that your friends can feel it too. "Aim for the crystal in the chest!" Great job, pointing out the obvious target. "There's a 3 second delay where the guy has to cool down after his attackl! Let's try to take advantage of it!" Hey... you're not Sailor Mercury! Bring her back out here, Mistress Nine! "Sorry... I just felt the sudden urge to possess her body..." Go home! You get the point... Plus, she has to use a super computer to notice what any amatuer could see with their own two eyes, so I guess that makes her stupider than most.

I'm responding to this WAAAYYYY too late... Anyways, saying that adults like to critisize anime is pretty general... adults come in many more different flavors than teenagers do. And from what I've seen, its seems like acceptance of "geekier" things like anime and videogames is much more common with the average 20-40 year old working man than it is with the average teenage prep. Sure there's the adults that can't get passed the 70's, 80's, and 90's, when cartoons where almost purely aimed at kids, but most of them seem at least willing to look past that. Although, it seem like a lot people over the age of 40 are past the point of being able to truly accept animation as an adult form of entertainment...

Anime Dating Anime Characters: Would You?
Bloodseeker replied to ChibiHorsewoman's topic in Otaku Central
I probably wouldn't, for several reasons... 1. Those eyes... can you think of how freaky those would look in real life? Does anyone remember the run away bride? If you thought that she was bad, wait until you see a girl that has eyes that take up half of her face! 2. Access to the "hammer dimension". Anytime that I even did so much as irritated her, she'd have the potentia tol pull out a hammer or some other painful item from out of nowhere and start taking swings at me! I don't know about you, but I wouldn't want to have to watch myself every time that she was PMSing... Now if they didn't have access to the hammer dimension and didn't have the huge eyes... In no particular order: 1. Asuka, from Neon Genesis Evangelion! Most of my friends already have ego trips, so the pride wouldn't be anything new to me. Likewise, while I'm not the most energetic myself, I tend to get along best with outgoing people. Yeah, Asuka would be nice... 2. Rei, from Sailor Moon... I like Minako better in the series, but Rei would probably make the cooler girlfriend, with the spiritual powers and stuff. And you can't tell me that having a sailor senshi as a girlfriend wouldn't be cool! Come on, I know that all of you would eventually find yourself blasting ambitious super-powered ******** with a desert eagle or some other high powered hand gun... 3. Minako from Sailor Moon... on the second thought, I might get along better with someone like Minako... like I said earlier, I always get along better with outgoing people. Plus, blondes are the hottest in real life... -
Many ppl might not no about dis game, but i think Lunar silver star story should b an anime(dis is only if ur into [/B'] RPG's) But yea it would b so cool if there was a final fantasy & Ledgend of dragoon Anime but da final fantasy 7 movie is out (i think  )But i think most rpg's should b an anime(they hav 2 b real good game and a favorite one as well) :animeswea Oh yea if ur into hot gimmick i think dat would b a real good anime too
Eternal Blue >>>>>>> Silver Star Story For starters, EB has much better characters. Does SSS have anyone that can match up to the coolness of Ronfar? I don't think so. Are any of them as likable Leo and his super-hero alter ego? Hell no. Are any of them as badass as Gene? Nope. Do any of them add as much character to skits as Lumina? Nash comes close sometimes, but still no! You could make an argument as to why Nall is better than Ruby, but I thought that Ruby was the more entertaining character, especially when she kept on burning Ronfar's eyebrows off! Plus, I'd all but forgot about half of the cast in SSS. The only ones that I didn't need to look at an FAQ to remember were Alex, Luna, Ramus (I only remembered him because he was pathetic), and Jessica. I can't say the same thing for EB. Alex > Hiro, but that's it. But that's still not saying much, seeing as Hiro was easily the dullest character in your party on EB. Further more, the relationships between the characters were more interesting in EB.
The writers made sure that Hiro developed, at the very least, a well defined relationship with all of the main characters, which is once again more than we say about SSS. Several of the relationships were very dynamic, such as the gradually increasing bonds between Hiro and Ronfar and Hiro and Leo. On top of all this, Ronfar's passes at the female members of the party are always funny.
Then there's the story.
We know that Zophar is a much bigger, badder villain than Ghaleon. Ghaleon is Zophar's b*tch for 3/4 of the game, after all. And even when he stops working for him, its not like he leaves with a bang or anything. Adding to it, the pasts and backstories for each of the main characters are much more detailed than in SSS. SSS gave you a brief rundown of each characters orgins, and that was it. Some characters you learned a bit more about than others, but it was always still pretty vague. EB goes full out and makes sure that you know what went on the past of each of the party members. Actually, a fair amount of the game is based around the main characters settling their old problems. Once again, that puts the EB crew a few notches above the SSS crew in my book.
Yeah... I liked Eternal Blue more.
The game I would seriously want to change into an anime is tales of symphonia that would be so cool
I think the exact same thing every time that I watch the opening cutscene... maybe they could pull the same thing that I've been hearing about with Xenosaga... make the anime go in a completely seperate direction from the game after the first major events. (they'd absolutely have to keep all of the game's characters around though... well, maybe they could do without Zelos, but definitely keep the rest of them)

Berserk. That's the only time that I've ever gotten angry over an uncensored TV show.
"Griffith!" *scene suddenly changes to Guts walking out of a house... credits pop up*
What was the point of excluding Skull Knight and the other apostles if you were just going to leave it a cliff hanger? Effectively self-contained my *ss.

Looks like the White House is there... as is the Pentagon, if it wasn't before.

Is it just me, or are governments founded under Islamic beliefs almost always really messed up? I'm not a supporter of gay marriage, or of the gay lifestyle in general, but I don't think that its a crime, especially not one punishable by death.

Google Earth This is pretty cool, definitely worth checking out. Its a 3d image of the Earth... you can rotate it and zoom in anywhere, and it'll tell you the names of roads, inns, diners, schools, and the like. (its free, BTW) I was able to find my house! That picture must be at least 2-3 years old though, because the spot where the plaza currently is is still just dirt (the field is gone... it looks like they're just about to start moving in the construction equipment), and my best friend's mom is still driving the Escape. Some of the cities are still kind of blurry (as in you can't get any detail when you zoom in... that city near Waikiki Beach was like that, as was Kyoto), and I'd imagine that there's probably a lot more old pictures of cities, but most of the areas in the continental US, Canada, and western Europe are clear as day, as are some of the really major cities elsewhere (like Tokyo and Sydney).

Game into Anime: I'd like to see a Legend of Dragoon prequel. You never get to see how the originals met their dragons, how things were during the Wingly's rule, or how the war against the Wingly's actually went. You know how it all ended, and that's it. I'd actually prefer it if it were a game, but I sure as hell wouldn't gripe over an anime. Anime into game: Mostly, I'd like to see an Armored Core style Neon Genesis Evangelion game in America, complete with customizable Evas. You can't tell me that wouldn't be awesome... you can learn new ways to use your AT Field (like a wave, a shield, or a focused blast of energy), spend money to research new weapons for Eva (like a progressive sword as compared to a progressive knife, or a sniper rifle), and customize your Eva's armor. This game wouldn't work unless the controls and graphics were top notch, and it would have to have some length and story to it (both in the main game and in the extras), but if they could wrap that all up into one package, that game would be downright awesome.

Asuka: 11 votes Lucy: 7 votes Here is your winner... AND the Otakuboards favorite anime girl... Asuka Langley-Sohryu! And that would be the end result that I was both hoping for and expecting when I started this tournament. Just for the hell of it, I think that I'll count up how many votes each character got total throughout the entire tournament (counting post-match votes): Asuka (Neon Genesis Evangelion): 11 + 17 + 13 + 10 + 11 = 62 votes Winry (Fullmetal Alchemist): 21 + 22 + + 12 = 55 votes Lucy/Nyu (Elfen Lied): 16 + 10 + 13 + 8 + 7 = 54 votes Rei (Neon Genesis Evangelion): 12 + 16 + 13 + 9 = 50 votes Sango (Inuyasha): 28 + 17 = 45 votes Sailor Venus (Sailor Moon): 6 + 10 + 17 + 8 = 41 votes Ceres (Hellsing): 16 + 12 + 8 = 36 votes Naru (Love Hina): 17 + 8 = 25 votes Lacus (Gundam Seed): 16 + 8 = 24 votes Washu (Tenchi Muyo): 14 + 10 = 24 votes Kaola (Love Hina): 9 + 10 + 2 = 21 votes (at least she got squashed in the end) Nabiki (Ranma 1/2): 8 + 9 + 2 = 19 votes Lina (Slayers): 15 + 1 = 16 votes Urumi (GTO): 10 + 6 = 16 votes Chi (Chobits): 16 votes Kei (Dirty Pair Flash): 9 + 6 = 15 votes Motoko (Ghost in the Shell): 13 votes Caska (Berserk): 9 + 4 = 13 votes Merle (Escaflowne): 12 votes Belldandy (Ah! My Godess): 12 votes Faye (Cowboy Bebop): 11 votes Nana (Elfen Lied): 10 votes Anita (Read or Die: the TV): 10 votes Kagome (Inuyasha): 9 votes Ayeka (Tenchi Muyo): 8 votes Temari (Naruto): 8 votes Katsumi (Silent Mobius): 7 votes Kagura (Azumanga Daioh): 7 votes Akane (Ranma 1/2): 7 votes Haruka (RahXephon): 6 votes Helba (.hack//SIGN): 4 votes Najica (Najica Blitz Tactics): 1 vote I wouldn't take that list for too much. Some of the lower vote counts were just cases of popular characters going up against really popular characters in the first round. (for instance, if I had put Nana in Kei's spot, I'm pretty sure that her vote count would probably be up in the 30s at least) On the after thought, the only thing that really stumps me is how stupid annoying ol' Kaola got so far. How anyone can like a character that annoyingly wierd and energetic is beyond me. She needs to be tied together with Ed from Bebop in barbed wire and left to bleed to death.

1. They're animated, lots of people have trouble getting past the idea that cartoons can be aimed at people other than little kids. 2. Some of them are too complex for idiots to understand. That's a large part of the reason why Star Trek was hated on so much, you know...
-
To break it down... Literal Translation Anime = Animation = Cartoons But in terms of how the word is used here in the west... Anime = animation from the far east Cartoons = animation from everywhere else So, yes... and no.
I'm not entirely sure an Asuka vs. Lucy/Nyu Tournament would be viable since everyone and their mother has seen Evangelion and only a fraction of that have seen Elfen Lied, but regardless of that, I threw my lot in for Lucy/Nyu.
Lucy/Nyu beat Rei.

That's how you get the fans to endear your newest character... make one of the first official screenshots released a screenshot of her slamming the fan favorite in the back! I like Hitomi's new costume... Christie's costume would be cool too... if it weren't on Christie. (I don't like Christie, if you hadn't guessed.) She could lose the lip gloss too. Anyways, I've been a fan of the DOA series since DOA3 came out a few years ago, and this game looks like its going to be awesome. I'm a big fan of the fast-paced gameplay, and DOA4 sounds like its going to be even more fast paced than the previous ones. Itagaki interview with Kikizo I wonder if it was just a slip-up when he said yes when they asked if there would be mini-games and sidequests... the way he answered it made it sound like slip up. "The story of DOAU focused on Kasumi and Ayane, now its focusing on Helena!" That sounds like an interesting mini-game. BTW, this site has a few screenshots that I haven't seen elsewhere. (they're better at reviewing games than IGN)

I was in the middle of writing something completely different when I went to bring up the FCC. That made me remember why I hated 4kids so much in the first place. Does 4kids pick up anime that's mainly aimed at little kids anyways? Yeah. Does 4kids even look at the shows that the anime community really cares about? Not usually. Would the western anime community be talking about any of the 4kids shows if they had been brought to us uncut? Probably not. But does 4kids support and help add to the wussification of the west? Definitely. Companies like 4kids cater to the over-protective parents... that's not a group that society should support. Their agenda, combined with the support of our schools and politicians, will ultimately help turn their kids into soft-skinned pansies that don't know how to react on their own when a problem like bullying or failure smacks them in the face. 4kids may only be a really small part of it, but the existance of groups like them encourage society to continue down the path of youth wussification.

All right, I'll play along. What if: The worlds of Sailor Moon and Yu Yu Hakusho fused and the spirit detective and company were forced to team up with the Sailor Senshi? -Tuxedo Mask would hang around Team Urameshi for about 5 minutes before Hiei killed him out of sheer annoyance. -The Sailor Senshi would learn what its like to have a pervert stalker... (Yusuke) -Yusuke would have to pull out his long-hidden spying eye glass and attach it to a camera. -Rei would start taking lessons from Genkai. -Hiei would go clinically insane after being forced to spend a week around the combined forces of Sailor Venus', Sailor Moon's, and Botan's ditzyness, Sailor Mercury's constant pointing out of the obvious, and Sailor Mini-Moon's brattyness. -Sailor Mini-Moon would die after making a comment about Hiei being a stupid brute. A party would follow soon after.
I have to say even though i am the biggest evangelion fan i have to not vote for her, she was the biggest bitvh in the series and she was the biggest ***** in the movie and i hate her for always being cruel to Shinji.
The way that Asuka treated Shinji was mild compared to the way that I would have treated him if I were forced to be his roomate. That whiny punk was in serious need of an *** whupin and a wake up call... Asuka hit him a few times, but for the most part, she just yelled at him when he was being a whiny little bastard. Most people would have done the same, or worse. *EoE spoilers*
That wasn't Asuka that Shinji met in the movie. That was Shinji's perception of Asuka. As such, Asuka isn't directly responsible for what happened there. Besides, I think that Shinji's choking Asuka was worse than anything that Asuka had ever done to him.
You want some good puzzles, go out and buy Myst and its sequels. I remember Riven and Exile having some real mind benders... but that was also several years ago... As for games that aren't pure puzzle games, God of War is king. That game would have been all-around perfect if it were about 10-15 hours longer...

This is it! The psychotic second child and pilot of Eva Unit 02 vs. the psychotic badass with the naive alternate! (AKA someone other than the enigmatic first child) My only rule is to not spam up these threads. Don't just post the character that you voted for's name. If you're going to say who you voted for, then explain why you voted for who you voted for, even if that explanation is just quoting someone that shares your sentiments. It doesn't need to be complicated. Even something as simple as "I voted for Asuka because she has a lot more spunk than Rei" or "I voted for Asuka because she has a lot of spunk" will work. So long as it has more substance than "Asuka" or "Asuka's better", its fine. My money's on Asuka. But I wouldn't count Lucy out... she did beat Rei! Asuka Langley Sohryu vs. Lucy/Nyu I like Lucy, and Nyu's really cute, but I'm going to have to cast my vote in Asuka's direction. As always, I like Asuka's spunk, and the fact that she had one of the most kickass mecha battles ever in EoE. Further more, she pesters that annoying wimp Shinji! This is the first time that I've ever argued against Lucy... all I can say is that she
ripped Nana's arms and legs off.
*spoiler... though you might want to see it even if you haven't watched EL yet... maybe it can serve as an incentive to get you to watch!* That sucks... *end spoiler*
Now I can understand defending yourself, and not wanting to go back to the crappy existance in the lab, but Nana was begging for mercy when she ripped off her remaining arm and leg.
Das not cool. Asuka's also one of the few anime girls that actually looks better than Nyu. (I can't say cuter, because "cute" doesn't exactly describe Asuka)

From the manga that I've read so far, Berserk. Berserk ties with Eva as my favorite anime ever, but the manga is even better than the anime. The manga actually has a sense of humor, something that the anime lacked in a big way, and the action is twice as brutal. Plus, the manga doesn't share the anime's ending, which is literally the only anime ending that actually pissed me off.

You've been a part of these boards long enough to become a mod... you've been wondering about anime for an awefully long time to have not really made up your mind about it. For me, its the character and story developement more than anything else. A 26 episode long anime series has so many more hours to develope their characters, their story, and their universe than a 2-3 long movie does, and many anime take full advantage of that. The result is that anime is home to many characters that viewers are able to connect with and grow attatched too... characters like Guts, Onizuka, Asuka, Misato, and even Inuyasha and friends. Likewise, its long enough to really suck you into their worlds and keep you in them long enough to get a good taste. And the same goes for getting involved with the story itself. That's what anime is all about for me, its what keeps me interested. Of course, good fight scenes that would sometimes be almost impossible to make convincingly in live action don't exactly hurt either.
