2. Marcus hadn't bothered keeping his feelings to himself, the weight on his shoulders was growing heavier by the minutes now. He had tried his best to relieve the stress with speaking to Berserk like that, knowing he had to do something, the behemoth was getting on his nerves constantly now. He would prefer to just bury him in pain and let him be die in his own blood, but the option wasn't his right now, especially with their orders being to protect the retired operative. He stayed against the wall then, his arms crossed and his mind gone again, he didn't let his thoughts linger on anything for very long. Every thought that he seemed to be was another dead face pointing at him, accusing him of failing them, he saw all of them gathering before him. Each one showing the wounds of their death, Fiddler was riddled with bolts, Yan still had the daggers sticking out of her body, Yedan had his sword stuck through him. He could see Mists face now, seeing the scene in his head that he had read on paper so many times, he stood before him with a hole in his chest. 'What makes you so special? Why do you get to live, while we die? Why are you worth saving? You lead us to this.' Marcus tried to banish the thoughts, make the ghost flee his mind, but all he succeeded in doing was bringing more of them to life. He pulled away then, their presence becoming too much as he ripped his mind form his body and took it to the shadow realm. The solitude of the dark world was broken by the whispers, the voices speaking to him now in their hard tones. 'You should have died Mystic.' 'He should of cut your throat.' 'I hope he finds you, for what you did!' Marcus gripped his head then, his eyes shifting between the different faces. Seeing their wounds, the rips and tears into their flesh, the very instruments used to kill them. "What do any of you know?! I did everything I could for you!" He roared at them now, the madness of the situation threatened his very mental state. His memories coming to life more powerful then before, they didn't just play on the world, they became real. He could see the bodies, the blood, the entrails of everyone he knew, he could see them all dead now, him standing alone in a field of bodies. His eyes looking over the field and seeing the twisted faces and broken bodies of the team he knew as his family. Pocket lay near by, her chest ripped open, her ribs exposed to the world as the wound showed the forced use to rip her open. Jason was split in half at the waist, his intestines hanging out as his top half was reaching out for something, the dead look in his eyes revealing nothing of his last thoughts. His lower half was nowhere to be seen, Marcus eyes seeing more people, Jeff pinned to the ground with blades, his head bashed into a bloody mess, Sasa skewered through with several different weapons, blood still leaked from where her eyes use to be. He saw limbs scattered about, blood covered everything, he saw Demetri then, his body twisted as he saw that half the mans face gone, his brain matter splattered about, his torso torn into by clawed hands. Marcus almost vomited, until her heard a soft sound, turning to see what it was he saw her then, on her hands and knees the wound in her chest seeped blood. She was weeping now, she was in between two bodies, was was the remains of Demetri he had seen, the other was the cold, lifeless body of a tattooed figure. His right forearm removed, his head barely hanging on to where his neck and been chopped into, her face looked up, then bruises showed. 'You killed them all, you killed them all!" She screamed at him, Marcus didn't understand, not until he looked down, his hands black and clawed, wisps of white hair floating into his vision. The horror dug deep then, his hands were covered in blood, his body drenched in the life materiel of every person he valued. His screams echoed through the dark world as he gripped his head again. The scene faded instantly, Marcus on his knees now as he gripped the sides of his head tightly, the voices still whispering, the shadows taking form as the old man appeared. With a simple wave, they were gone, the faces, the whispers and the blood was all gone, Marcus eyes wide as his hands fell away, rising slowly he took the deep breath he needed. "You can't let them get to you like that my boy." Marcus didn't turn then, trying to calm his mind. "I couldn't get away from then if I tried." "I know, but they are part of you now, not the other way around." Marcus closed his eyes for a moment, opening them gently as he saw her standing there. His love from another life, she stood 15 feet away from him now, she started walking towards him, her face in a warm smile as she came closer. Marcus stood fast, his arms at his sides, when she was half way to him, her face changed, her eyes becoming red in color. She stood before him then, closing the distance in only a matter of moments, he didn't move as she threw her arms around his neck and pressed her lips to his, just letting the moment take him as he closed his eyes, letting it all fall away. And just like that, she was gone, her stood their alone now, his grandfather standing at his side. "I'm afraid, grandfather." Shadowthrone laid a hand on his shoulder, Marcus accepting the warm gesture. "I know my boy, I know. A lot was asked of you when you went after Anomander." Marcus could only shake his head then. "I don't remember any of it, I remember his face, and his name, that's it." "No one else did, anyone else who was already there recognized his face. But, only you knew his name, and his face. You have to try to understand what that means." Marcus needed time now, his thoughts calming down enough as the ghosts didn't return. He closed his eyes then, feeling his mind return to the shell left behind. His body moving again as he loosened the muscles, feeling how his body had clenched with his leave. He pushed off form the wall then and walked outside, seeing Demetri standing there he stood by his side then, staring off into the darkness with the giant. "What was that about Patch?" Marcus looked up at him now, looking away again as he spoke. "I believe Patch is trying to make his move on Ali. I walked in on it in the med ward." Demetri nodded his head to him then. "I understand where you are coming from, but still. He is one of the best healers we have, only makes sense we bring him here." Marcus crossed his arms then, feeling the bare spot where a bandanna use to rest. "I saw something in him, something that makes me uncomfortable. I want him away from her for now, oblige me Commandant." Demetri sighed then, nodding at him. "Alright, he will be under close watch, I can't take any further action." Marcus bowed his head to him. "That's All that I ask. We should get i contact with the HDF, we found who we were looking for." "We will leave as soon as Ali is alright." Marcus didn't say anything then, simply walking away back into the house, re-securing his place against the wall as he watched Leech work. He felt his fear still hanging around, still trying to claw its way free. He kept it suppressed, kept his eyes on Ali, trying to keep the scene at bay.
3. Marcus had tried to keep his head on straight, seeing what Ali had did, his mind was torn in two directions now. He saw what she had done to that man, and being born with the same antimony he felt the phantom pain himself, seeing how gruesome the act was, it provided a mental image he never wanted to see done again. But, when he saw the small form, the broken body of that child he had raped and murdered, he understood all to well why she did it, justice came on swift wings when it was administrated. Marcus had done something like that a few times, during his time away from the HDF for the decade he had been in the desert. His final conclusion came hard then, she had been in the right, even if her method was a brutal. Brutal acts required the same heavy handedness, people like that needed to die, Marcus hoped to be free of his Commander title one day, he couldn't be truly himself again until he was away again, out of the HDF's hands. And if he could bring Ali back, if he could win her heart, he hoped he could pull her away from it all too, still use their powers as they saw what was right, but be free at last. He sighed lightly to himself then, admonishing himself for those thoughts, they would never be out of their sight, as long as he was as powerful as he was, and her powers kept developing like it was. She stood under the willow now, seeing how she held herself close now, he could see her body shudder softly, he knew the tell tale sign of her weeping then, subtle things like that stuck out to him now. He climbed the hill she stood on, the willow blowing gently in the wind as he reached where she stood, standing beside her as he simply looked out at the rest of the forest then. He kept his hands at his sides, repressing the need to wrap his arms around her and hold her tight, he had seen himself coming u behind her and gently putting his arms around her middle. He envisioned just holding her as he whispered to her, telling her that it was all ok, that everything she did was the right thing, he wanted her to know that he still loved her. Everything he wanted to say he couldn't do, not until she gave her heart to him, if she even did that. No, all he did no was stand there now, she didn't look at him, just kept quiet as she stared off, the tears rolling down. "I knew it was you, Marcus." He kept silent then, feeling his chest rise and lower faster then it should, trying to keep everything controlled he spoke then. "Truly? How so?" He asked, the curiosity in his voice as he kept it even. "You step lightly, I can barely hear your steps, but when you get close enough, I can hear you breath harder. It's slight, but I hear it." Marcus was at a loss of words then, he didn't know how she managed to do that. He understood the subtle things about her body, her scent was a number one tell, other things were far less noticeable, the way she moved, the way she walked, it all stuck out to him. He spoke now, his throat finally having loosened enough. "You did the right thing Ali. His crime.... it called for that sort of punishment." She just nodded then, the tears slowly dying away then as Marcus kept speaking. "Right now, we have a lead for the woman we are looking for. She has the ability to take life, we need to tread carefully now." Ali nodded again, she turned away then and started walking down the hill, Marcus taking his time before turning away, thinking about how many different ways this could have gone. He shook his head then, the world feeling heavy on his shoulders again as he held on to the thoughts he had before, of every thought of how he wanted to take her away from it all. Life in the desert, in the forest, in the world away from the rest of the world was always more relaxing. He held on to that hope now, never wanting to let it go as he followed in her wake, one hand resting on the handle of his sword as he tried to steel himself. They waited around only for a little while before they saw the commanders of the deserters arrive, departing after a few words they set out into the thick forest, their hearts heavy now with the scene. The memory of all of the death and blood lingered with them long after they had left the dingy camp miles back. Marcus had fallen to the back of the pack, his left hand resting on Blue's sword now as he watched the darkness around them, the trees crowded around them, blocking out any light with their thick canopies. The thickness of the darkness around them made him nervous, his eyes looking to where Ali walked ahead of the group, she held herself high, taking on the roll of command easily. He saw Demetri standing not to far form her now, his eyes shifting between the two. He felt his grip tighten slightly, his eyes then traveling down to his left arm, seeing the twin scars now. One on the outside of his forearm, the other on the inside. His eyes finding the other on his right arm now, the wound having been deep enough to cut the tendons in his arms, he reached up then, feeling the two marks on his chest now, the fine, thin scars bringing back the chilling memory. He knew there were two identical marks on his back, he didn't want to remember anymore. 'You'll die soon enough anyways!' Marcus whipped around then, both swords n his hands in an instant as he stared off into the darkness. The words having echoed in his mind, the sick voice that held on to his mind tightly now. He growled then, his grip on the weapons tight now. The other stopping now as they noticed him no longer moving, weapons drawn they fanned out. "Where are you?" Marcus yelled out into the darkness, and as if on command, the darkness formed and brought to life the black skinned life form of Anomander. His wicked grin showing now, Marcus standing before him, holding up one f his blades as he heard Jason step forward to bar his path. "So astute of you Marcus. What gave me away?" Marcus lowered the blade and focused his dark eyes on him. "I could..... feel you now. You took something from me, something that made you, stronger." The grin only grew as he seemed to flex his clawed hand. "I wondered how long it would take you to notice." Demeitr stepped forward then, his energy crackling around him now. "What does he mean Marcus?" "He used a spell on me, in the shadow realm. He took something from me." Anomander laughed then. "I took your knowledge, I took your 'wisdom', and I took your life. 889 years of it to be exact, Mystic." Marcus felt his heart stop, his hands losing grip for just a moment. It wasn't possible, nothing he knew could pull that much life from someone unless freely given. "No, you couldn't have taken that. Not with a simple spell, I would have had to give you that much." "Exactly, the spell was a catalyst. You gave up those years, for her." Anomander didn't gesture then, Marcus knew what he meant then. He had given up his life for Ali, somewhere in his subconscious he had decided to will it all away. He would have outlived her easily, out lived her entire family and his own, he might have even seen Neos grow old and die. He tried to keep his features expressionless, the muscles twitching on his body and his face. He shuddered at the thought, he had given it all up, unintentionally. The his hands suddenly gripping the blades tightly in his hands, a growl erupting from his throat. "That's how he keeps finding us, because of me." Anomander shook his head then. "I found you, because of him." He pointed then, to the giant with his clawed finger. Marcus understanding that as well, seeing how he had put them all in danger, because of his attempt at keeping peace in the base. Marcus felt his heart beat hard now, the sound of his heart beat thumping in his ears, panic threatened to take him now. His mind was blank then, only filling with thoughts of blame now, he had brought this down on them now, and they would all perish because of his mistake.
4. Marcus kept his eyes on the giant as h cut into himself, the blood flow steady with every slice. his mind marveled more at what lead to this event. He had felt it then, thunder without sound, he felt the pressure reverberate through his chest. Ali had just touched him, that was all it took and he was under her control, Marcus rune burned out around his head, it could only handle so much rage before it was rendered inert. He hadn't been surprised to seem him override the power it had, the other rune would remain intact as long as he didn't over use it. Every rune he knew, every technique he had developed could not utterly controls someones mind like that. And expenditure of power like that would surely leave someone feeling weak, Marcus started walking then, Demetri calling after him. "I'm putting Neos to bed, don't do anything I wouldn't." Marcus didn't answer back as he kept walking, stopping only at the wall where the sword had been driven deep and yanking it out of the wall. He sheathed the weapon before he kept up his pace, a rift opening to his side as Pocket stepped through, the training with Neos had given here the strength to open rifts now, she could bring people with her now. Since Time worked differently in every dimension, Pocket could appear somewhere in a split second, or could make over land journeys only take a couple hours, instead of days. He had encouraged her to keep using her strengths, not to be discouraged by the travel operatives they had, he knew her power was more then that, he wouldn't be surprised one day if she could eventually manipulate dimensions. It was a somewhat unsettling thought but he imagined her nature would keep her from truly reaching that god like ego, she walked by his side now, following him through the halls. "I'm glad you can use your powers without me Calypso. You can gather more information on your sister." Pocket nodded then. "The runes are holding up, she seems to be getting closer to consciousness but I'm not sure yet." Marcus kept his gaze forward, his hands loose at his side now, his muscles not as tense, he still felt a tenderness in his ribs but ignored it as the pain faded, whatever cracked ribs had appeared were healing now. Marcus reflected on the means of bringing back her sister, her mind having been broken from her body proved to be a more taxing challenge, they couldn't make a connection to where her body was. Which, in Marcus mind, meant her body was gone, there was no physical form to attach her too but he wasn't about to just abandon Pocket and her chances at helping her. He stilled looked when he could, he having only recently come back into the shadow realm himself, finally making contact only a couple weeks ago he felt relieved to see the old mans grinning face, his fathers hooded visage, he was even partial now to Exodus. They soon arrived at the med ward then, going in to see Jason getting his arm put back into place, Stitch was handling the situation for him, the pop coming when Jason grunted, Stitch using his hands to start to heal any torn muscles in his shoulder. Marcus headed toward the other room as Pocket stayed with Jason and Stitch, He was thinking that Pocket might have been developing a crush on Jason, but he couldn't be sure, she was pretty good at keeping things like that to herself. He heard talking then, still continuing into the room as he heard the end of the conversation. "...well I do spend to much time in this med ward, would you think you mi-" He was cut off when Marcus pushed through the current, he could see Patch finishing up his work then, he could see how he was tenderly holding her hand now, using his other to slowly glide over her skin, the green glowing working its way into her bones, fixing the damage then. Patch's eyes flicked up to Marcus and he saw it then, the burning desire in his looks, the slight triumphant in that look as he kept her hand in his grip, Marcus kept his expression blank as he raised a brow. "How is the healing coming Patch?" Marcus tried to mask the vehement nature of the comment, mentally shaking himself so that he would relax, it took a few moments but he saw Patch release her hand and his heart stopped thumping so heavily. "Very well, Commander. Your team leader of Alpha squad should be ready to go soon, she needs to just rest the arm for the moment and take a break, she's a bit beat up." Marcus nodded to him, Patch rising then, catching the glower in Marcus eyes as he left the room, attending to some other mundane task still standing close enough in ear shot. Marcus tried to keep himself in check as he spoke. "Hows the arm feel?" Ali nodded then. "It feels better, Patch did a good job." "Good, can't have one of my top operatives out already." He thought he might have seen a slight color hit her cheeks, she was still sitting on the medical bed rolling her wrist lightly as to get the soreness out. "You need to be a little less serious Commander." Ali suddenly said, it had caught Marcus off guard, he was use to his expression being hard, Ali was one of the few who saw a frequent smile on his face. He let out a sigh, a smile breaking his face as he let out a soft laugh, walking over and sitting beside her he took a deep breath. "Can't help it, most of my life was spent in serious situations." "Well, I can relate to that." He nodded to her then. "I know, I've seen your file. You had a tough life growing up." She nodded then, he picked up the conversation to keep it moving, not wanting her to dwell on the painful memories. "At least you have your brother, he'll always be here. If we can put him on a leash at least." He got a soft laugh out of her then, the laugh warming his heart more as his smile grew, a small laugh escaping him as well. He touched his arm then, the bare place where his blue bandanna had been she traced the runes there. "These markings, they are really amazing. I saw the light, and how they changed, its truly beautiful sight." His heart almost stopped right there, the words echoing in his mind now as she traced the runes gently. She stopped midway as he suddenly shifted the lines, making them take on new shapes, he heard a slight gasp as she saw the light and the way the changed. She traced the new lines now, her gentle touch making him want to shiver, he had to suppress the need. Shields words echoed in his mind now. "She may not remember you anymore, but trust me, that kind of love, the kind of love she has for you and my son, that still exists." He turned his head to look at her, seeing how she was fascinated by the runes, she pulled away then, looking over and picking up the blue bandanna and tried to hand it back to him. He shook his head at the gesture. "Hold on to it. I'm sure it'll comeback one day." She withdrew it then, he could see a slight blush on her face, the rosy color to her cheeks making his face darken as he looked away. He felt almost like a little kid again. She quickly started up the conversation again. "You are very, unusual Commander." He let out a nervous chuckle then. "I'm not surprised to hear that." "But I like that, your smile too." He let out another nervous laugh as he felt his heart beat become rapid. "Thank you, I usually only smile for someone in particular." "Who is she?" Marcus let his mind flood with memories then, the warmth of them all making his smile gentle now. "She was someone, very special. I shared a lot with her that I never did before, she is actually the only other person I've ever loved." He back handed his arm then, he laughed as he leaned away, rubbing the arm and seeing the playful look on her face. "Don't hold out on me, what is her name." He just smiled at her then. "Someone I hope to see again." She shook her head at him as she rolled her eyes, he laughed as rubbed the spot where she had smacked him moments ago, still feeling the slight sting of the impact.
5. Jason's words tore into Marcus mind now, he had almost instantly whirled around and sprinted down the hall. His breathing becoming panicked as his mind raced, he felt out then for some sign. The rune on her body not reacting to his probing, her mind alteration having changed the effect of the rune, he wouldn't know the extent of the change until he found her. He reached out for another source, the only other rune he knew he could find, the behemoth instantly coming into his mind as he tried to pick up his pace, his runes flaring to life as they propelled him forward, his sandals having vanished with his need to move faster. The swords at his side swaying with his every movement, his muscles tensing up as his need grew to find the giant, his hands were balled into fists when he rounded the last corner. He felt his rage flare to life then, seeing the scene in his mind, Felix holding Ali in the air by the throat, he felt a sharp pain echoing through his mind as charged forward now, suddenly aware that Iron Bars' sword was in his hand as he closed the distance, sliding past the two he came up behind Felix. His blade reached out then, the edge sliding across his calf, the edge biting deep into his muscle as it came across the tendons, snapping them as his leg gave out, falling to the knee he still held her firmly in his large fist. Marcus placed the blade on the side of his neck then, still standing behind him. "Let her go. I'll kill you if I must." Marcus face was stern then, the intent clear in his eyes, he wasn't aware that Ali was staring at his glowing runes, the energy pulsing off of him. Felix released his grip on her, the hand suddenly whipped back and grabbed the blade yanking it over his head, Marcus following with it, he released the handle then, spinning over the giants head before landing on his feet, one hand on the floor before he rose steadily. His hands still balled as he kept his eyes on Felix, he could hear Ali breathing heavily as she gripped her throat, trying to get her air back. "Stay here Alex." He said as the runes wavered now, the shapes changing then, the lines shifting and moving around at will. Felix held the blade in both hands now and brought it down on his knee, it bounced harmlessly off much to Berserk's surprise. Marcus spoke coldly then. "You won't break that weapon, no matter how are you try." He grunted in frustration as he threw it aside, using such that it jammed into a near by wall. Marcus had moved in front of her now, standing a foot away from her and looking the giant in the eyes. "You seem to have issues with understanding orders." Felix just grinned at him, feeling blood running down his leg he remained standing as best he could. He scratched his face as he spoke now. "I take it you'll use your runes to bring me down, seems like something you would do mystic." Marcus rolled his shoulders then, the light radiating off of him now. "That would be too good for coward like you, lets make it even." Marcus lashed out with a fist then, the hit making contact as he felt bone crack, Felix hardly moved as he tried to return the hit, Marcus moving out of the way as he struck out again, hitting him in the ribs, Felix swinging again as Marcus moved out of his range before he leaped in the air and brought a blow down on the same bone he had cracked, he could hear the giant grunt with the pain it delivered. Felix surprised him then, using his uninjured leg to smash into Marcus, sending him into the air as he smashed into the wall, the impact making a impression as the walls cracked then. He was breathing heavy as he felt a soreness in his ribs now. He wasn't ready for this, his body still not at its maximum but he wasn't going to lose, he let lose a wave of power then, sending it spiraling into Berserk causing him to spin through the air and fall on his back. Marcus bringing the rune on Felix's body to life then, the pain radiating through his body, he grunted as he tried to rise, the pain keeping trying to bring the rage up but the other runes keeping it at bay. Ali took the opportunity then to jump on him, using her flexibility to flip into the air and smash into his chest with her feet. The effect brought the giant down on his back again, Ali getting on top of him then as furiously punching him as hard a she could. He pushed past the pain then, gripping her arm then, Marcus heard a sickening snap then, she screamed out in pain, the rune on that arm flare to life then sending the wave of pain into Marcus as he almost fell to his knees then. Felix gripped Ali's neck again, holding her so she was facing Marcus this time, Marcus felt her pain then, the rune finally reacting to something, the pain keeping him planted where he was. "Can't do much with her in the way ca-" He was flung backwards then, Marcus eyes wide as he looked to see where the blast had come from. Neos stood by then, the little boys body glowing before it subsided. He ran to Marcus then, his little feet patting against the ground until he was standing before him now, hugging Marcus legs. Marcus patting his head a she saw the damage he had done, Felix had dropped Ali the moment he got hit, she crumpled the ground then. He looked to Neos then, speaking to him quietly. "Neos, you can't tell mommy that your her baby ok?" "I know daddy, not until she is all better." He smiled then as they both rushed to her, he heard the scrape of claws then, knowing Jason was around the corner now as he knelled beside Ali. He looked at her arm now as she cradled it, touched her rune then, changing it, just enough to be able to find her then. He looked at the obvious break now, thinking they had on option, he was about to speak when he heard another crack and then a scream from Ali. She had pushed the bone back into place, setting it properly, he was stunned momentarily before he pulled off Blues' bandanna from his arm and wrapped it around where the break was, tying it off she flinched a little before he helped her rise. "Are you alright?" Was all he could manage then words escaping him as he tried to keep his breathing even now.
6. Marcus couldn't move, all he could do was watch Jason walk away with the limp form in his arms. Marcus felt on the verge of tears, his heart beating so hard that he was sure it was going to explode. That thought didn't hurt him as much as he would have expected, it was already broken now, damaged yet again but unseen events. He felt so much pain now, he also felt out rage and unequivocal hurt to any other time, he was sure that Masan's death years ago had left him in the same place. Only this was worse, Ali still lived, she had just wiped away everything that brought them together, his eyes suddenly caught Demetri then, the anguish in his eyes and the expression on his face. He felt his rage settle then, his body trembled lightly as he saw what this did to Demetri. The Commandant soon looked over him, seeing how calm he appeared he spoke in harsh tone. "How can you be so relaxed right now? We drove her to this!" Marcus kept staring at him. "I know." He voice barely level, the effort difficult now. Marcus looked out and watched as Jason disappeared with her. He spoke again as he kept looking forward. "How long Demetri?" He looked down at him then, Marcus continued. "How long did you have her for before I showed up?" "Two years. Three more when you left and we got married." Marcus felt it more then, how much pain Demetri really must have been in. "I only had her for five and half months, two and a half of those months we're spent in recovery." He felt the tremble increase slightly, he had to clench his hands into fists before it steadied out. "I think I should leave again." Marcus said then, feeling how much those words hurt, feeling how it rang heavily in his mind. He heard a throat clear behind him, turning slowly he saw Shield step up. "You are not going anywhere, Commander." Marcus lifted a brow lazily at him, not liking where the conversation was going. "What?" Shield showed his smile then, the sadness still in his face but the look still had the same effect. "Alex Talon is no longer base Commander, with her mind being altered. You, however, have been marked as a target, I can't let you leave. you are now the Northern Base Commander." "No." Marcus said instantly, his mind already set on leaving, he had no place here. "It's too late Commander Demos, papers filed, signatures forged, you are now the acting Commander. You cannot leave." Marcus face took on a dark tone then. "Watch me." He turned to start walking out, a force stopping him then. It quickly brought him to his knees, grunting as he kept trying to stand. Shield walked to him slowly and leaned over to talk to him now. "Marcus, listen to me. He got to Phoenix in her own base, he killed Mist while everyone was standing around him. He almost killed you in your own world, we need to remain together. She may not remember you anymore, but trust me, that kind of love, the kind of love she has for you and my son, that still exists." Tears slid down his face slowly then, his head bowing as it hung there, his body shuddering slightly as he let the tears flow before pushing them away. He felt the weight let go, taking a deep breath he calmed himself again. "Alright, I'll accept." Shield nodded to him then, leaving the room with his hands behind his back. Marcus rose then, Cloak having disappeared from the room without anyone noticing. Marcus rolled his shoulders then, looking to Demetri now, he felt the pain try to worm its way back in, he crushed in right then, steeling himself so that he could push through this. "Where do we do now Marcus?" He heard what that question really meant, the real question, was what will they do about Ali. Marcus kept his gaze steady. "I intend to fight. This is a chance for both of us." "We'll hurt her again, if we do what we did before." Marcus nodded then. "Lets keep it civil then. But I'm not going to lie to you Demetri, I intend to walk away with her heart. Fair warning." Demetri returned the look now. "Warning taken." Marcus turned away then, unable to look at Demetri any longer, he was sure he would of faltered then. The words spoken between them seem so cold, but he couldn't let it be anything else, he was a friend, a comrade, and it twisted in his chest now. Leaving the room, taking the elevator now, he felt his heart beat rapidly. He had a few things he needed to tend now that he was in this position. When he had arrived at the room, seeing Luwien had jarred him a bit, the youth was still having problems coping with Mists death. He gave him the only words he could think of, ones that he hoped would help him through his ordeal. Once he had left Marcus stood in the room now, after taking a few moments he walked to his dresser, Ali's belongings we're gone now, leaving him feeling a little empty now. He reached for a box sitting on top of the dresser and opened the lid, Blues' bandanna resting carefully, he pulled it out and secured it to his left arm seeing the scars on his forearm now, he ignored them as he pulled out a rust read bandanna now, securing that one to his right arm took another breath. He now carried both Blues and Iron Bars with him, wearing his bandanna around his arm, his sword strapped to his right side with one of Blues' sword strapped to his left now. He needed to set up the appearance now, his face straightening out when he heard a knock on the door, the door opening up when he voiced his confirmation. He heard the steps behind him, the thud of the massive feet as a giant figure squatted through the door and stood up in the room, the stench of alcohol coming off of the man in thick waves. "This is a nice place, might have to take it now." Marcus turned to look at him now, seeing Felix looking around at what he was sure would belong to him. His eyes slightly wide and a twisted smile on his face now. "Welcome to the Commanders quarters, I'm the new Commander." Marcus said with very little emotion, Felix shifted in his stance as he put his hands on his hips. "What happened to that tasty looking vixen?" Marcus stayed calm, trying to keep his powers calm as well. "Doesn't matter. You are dealing with me now and while you are under my roof, you will obey my orders." He heard a deep laugh form him then, Marcus was sure the room would pull apart from the bass of the sounds. "You're only a little bigger then that girl, plus you look like a freak cue ball." The giant reached out and placed a palm flat on Marcus head, Marcus didn't move at all. "I could crush your skull with just a squeeze." Marcus let a smile break his face. "I was waiting for you to touch me." His runes flare then, a sudden burning sensation appeared in Felix's hand. He yanked it away with a yelp, looking at the rune now burned into his hand. "Sit boy." The rune flared to life then, Felix feeling a wave of pain shooting through his body, the feeling making him buckle. Marcus looked him in the eyes now. "You are marked now, the rune on your hand now serves two purposes. One, I now will know where you are at all times. Two, it will cause you pain by my will, I hear anything you have done, you'll be screaming for hours. This rune, will have one purpose." Marcus brought his hands up and clapped them around Felix's head, letting the power surge he heard the man scream before letting go, a rune burned into the sides of his head. "This one, will keep you from touching your rage. As long as you are in my presence, you will not be able to use your powers without my consent. Now that we are clear on what is gonna happen to you, get out." He saw the rage try to burn in his eyes, the feeling never rising, he tried to reach out then, tried to take a hold of the mystics throat, his rune on his palm flaring to life making him scream again. Marcus walked away then, the giant getting up after a long while and leaving with his tail between his legs. Marcus made his way to the Commanders office, sure he needed to be there to set up his next appointment. After reaching the room, he walked through the doors, seeing his new assistance doing paperwork now, ignoring them he walked until he made it into his own office. He spoke to only one assistant on the way to the office, she had instantly gotten up and took off, Marcus now sitting in his chair as a familiar face came in. Jason standing before him, his arms crossed as he looked at Marcus. "I see you wasted no time in getting settled in. Already barking orders and pulling me from my quarters." Marcus didn't say anything for the time being, just watched Jason carefully before speaking. "When she is conscious, bring her here Jason." He instantly shook his head. "No Marcus, you can't do this. She wiped her mind so that she could start fresh, I don't need you pressing on her already." Marcus remained silent. His thoughts running rampant until he forced them to focus on one thing. "I don't intend to press on her, I intended to introduce myself. As the Commander, I need to make it a point to see decorated officers. That will be all Jason, I swear." He could see the skeptical look on his face, the hesitation in his eyes until marcus spoke again. "You and Pocket will sit in on this meeting, I do request you remain silent through out the entire time. You can say whatever you want when we are done." Jason sighed, nodding finally then. "Fine, but you can't say anything about what she wiped her mind for." "You have my word, I'll keep it calm. I just need to see how she is doing. Make sure to get Pocket as well." Jason left then, Leaving Marcus to sit in his new chair now, rubbing his face as he waited patiently for a new beginning. He only hoped he would ruin it before it started.
7. "It's ok Alex, you did everything that you could my love." She still wept then, he felt more helpless then before, having one crippled arm and his body in ruins had made him feel weak and vulnerable. He had never felt this way before, with every injury and every time he had needed to visit the med ward he had never felt this battered and broken. Ali was the only thing that made him feel useful now, even though she had to cater to his every need, he hated having her to take care of him, this wasn't how he wanted their life to start together. He held her as tight as he could manage, his own body having atrophied with his sleep and the time he was spending in the chair, his right arm was strong enough but he would do all he could to make her feel better. "It's not ok, he died while we all stood there. He killed him! He tore right through his chest it was...." She trailed off then, the tears taking her again as he felt them flow down his body. He kept her close, letting her cry as he whispered to her, letting her know that every was going to be fine, that she was doing everything that she could. He knew his own torn body wasn't helping his argument, he was crippled and hardly able to take care of himself at this point. He wouldn't let his weakness break her, like it almost broke him, he whispered words of love then, letting her know what she meant to him. She nodded with his words into his shoulder, kissing her gently on her cheek as he used his good arm to wipe away the tears as best he could. He kissed her gently on her lips, pressing his forehead to hers. "Let's get some rest, my butt his starting to get numb again." She shook her head as she laughed through the tears, they faded slowly as she rose from his lap, pushing him over to the bed she helped him up, his legs only slightly obeying him as she had to help him under the sheets. He felt worse by the second, his lack of movement made him feel old, and that Ali was just his nurse. She changed quick enough out of her gear and came back to the bed, getting under the blankets she gently snuggled up to him, he had been forced to sit upright since she had brought him home, he didn't mind so much since that was how he meditated, but it still felt like it ruined the time they got together. She was careful about his ribs, the slight twitches from her would make him grunt slightly but he did his best to suppress the pain, he needed to be close to her to feel better. His rest had been fitful the last few nights, he found it more and more difficult to connect with his own world, finding it almost painful. This night would only prove to be worse, when the lights were off, Ali having gone to sleep now, he slowly tried to meditate into his own world, tried to pull away so he could keep healing and finally rest. He found that he felt like he was being suffocated then, his mind trying to reach out and go into his world but the way was closed off now, his heart pumping fast as his body fell into a real sleep, his attempts at a cognitive time was replaced with fitful dreams. The dreams twisted and changed, the dreams becoming nightmares, and it was the same for him now, that laughing face, the white, sharp teeth. He felt the blades in his chest again, the life draining from his body as he was trying to move, trying to think. The same laugh echoing in his mind, he could feel the cold blade on his neck again ,the edge touching his flesh. He felt the blood in his lungs again, he felt like he was dying again. He was breathing heavily in his sleep, his body sweating as his muscles tensed, Ali was awake now, her hands on his face as she tried to wake him. "Marcus! Wake up please! It's ok, wake up!" She didn't want to hit him, she was scarred of the damage she might do. She could hear his grunts, his whispers as if he was talking to someone. The sword res ton his shoulder for just a few seconds longer, before the black skinned man pulled it back, the swinging coming down instantly. Marcus eyes snapped open as he suddenly lurched forward, a panicked a yelp leaving his throat as he felt the pain shoot through his chest. He looked around, his eyes full of fear as he tried to get a grip, Ali pulling his face to look at her. "Relax baby, relax. It's ok, I'm here." His breathing slowed then, his body feeling cold as his sweating stopped. He felt his heart start to slow down, the panic subsiding as she puled him in, his head resting on her shoulder, putting his arm around her she wrapped his arms around her now. "What happened?" She whispered to him, he was silent for now, letting his mind clam down finally. "I-I tried to connect, with the shadow realm. I ca-can't do it, I'm cut off." "It'll be ok, I'm sure it'll just take time. You just need to heal." He shook his head at her grasp. "I had a nightmare, I-I was back on my knees. I was dying all over again, he killed me. He killed me with his sword. Neos wasn't here, the seven weren't there. He killed me." She kissed his forehead, rubbing his back gently as she kept his head pressed against his shoulder. "He didn't kill you Marcus, you're still here. What seven Marcus? What did Neos do?" He talked then, feeling breathless then. "Neos is the one who stopped Anomander. Sly isn't just an animated toy, he's part of Neos. One of the seven pieces of his soul, mine are the crows." He touched his chest with his broken arm, using his exposed fingers to touch them. "Neos, he has hounds. He brought them to life, they saved me." He kept close to her, letting her scent linger as he got a firm grip then. "I'm sorry, I'm sorry Ali, I'm so sorry." She pulled away then, looking him in his dark brown eyes. "Why are you sorry? You didn't do anything." He nodded then, his eyes looking away. "I tried to protect Neos, he was after him, I should of taken him and ran. Left the world, I fought him instead. And now, you have to take care of me like this. I never wanted us to be together like this, with me so broken and useless, I nev-"His sentence cut short a she brought his face up and pressed her lips to his, his eyes closing as he felt the emotions running off of her, pushing into him now making him relax and melt again. She pulled away, the sweet smile on her face, so clear to him even in the dark. "Just stop, don't question it. Just remember that I love you." He nodded then, feeling more relaxed now. "I love you too." He felt the warmth take hold, his problems seeming to vanish then, all that mattered was that she was there.
8. Marcus sat in the chair, the remote still in his hands, the tv was still off as he let the scene he was seeing settle in his mind. While he slept, while his body had healed, he had been thrown into the shadow realm, feeling every moment of pain and every touch that occurred. He wasn't sure how long he had been asleep in the world, but he knew he had spent what felt like years in the shadow realm, the pain never ceasing, abating slowly but too much for him to move, to rise from where he laid. His mind should have broken, he should have lost to the will to live after being there so long, the only thing that kept him sane was his memories, seeing them play before him he managed to keep his mind off the madness that threatened to take him. His grandfather visited often, talking to him even though marcus hardly heard any of it, his father didn't say much when he appeared, he always knelled and would place his hand on Marcus, letting him know that someone was there. Exodus had come and gone as well, typically showing up alone, as he talked, telling him it was going to be alright, that he needed to hold out for just a little longer. The pain had abated enough one day for him to rise enough to be sitting up, his arms were weak then and his body was stiff, he had barely managed to sit up, Ammanas had summoned something for him to lean on, resting his back against it, his voice coming out in a rasp. "Am I dying?" "Fortunately my boy, you aren't anymore. That was a close one." Marcus' breath was somewhat labored, having only known pain for so long now. He knew this would affect him somehow, he wasn't sure what it would do to him yet. He didn't dwell on it as his head began to swim, he kept his eyes close as he tried to breath, pain shooting through his chest as he grunted, his hand touching his chest as he felt the scars now, the obvious effect of the swords being jammed into his body. He let his hand fall away as he kept his breaths shallow now. "Why was Iron Bars killed? He wasn't anywhere around when Anomander was sealed." He heard a sigh then, Shadowthrone seeming hesitant to talk. "Speak up old man, usually you drop and answer for me, along with a riddle or two." "Iron Bars was killed, because he was in the wrong place at the wrong time." Marcus eyes opened then, looking forward to Ammanas now, his head feeling heavy. "That can't be right, he didn't know anything. He was an expert with that sword, all of the Crimson Guard were." Shadowthrone nodded at his words. "He was indeed, but he wasn't enough. He saw Anomander, knew he was free, he was killed so he couldn't talk." Marcus' mind couldn't process this, he couldn't believe that was the reason. It had to be more, he had to have something Anomander wanted that he took from him. "He had his sword, that's what he was after, it had to be." Shadowthrone shook his head sadly at him. "That is the only reason Marcus, his sword was just a trophy. I'm sorry my boy." Marcus could feel the tears slowly running down his face, a veteran killed for nothing but being in the wrong place. He had to keep his breathing under control or feel the sharp pains shoot through his body again. He suppressed the tears then, taking the time to breath again he let his muscles relax, the tension squeezing on his broken body. He closed his eyes again, feeling his breathing evening out before his eyes suddenly opened to blinding light, waking up in the med ward he didn't know what to expect, his mind coming out of a fog. He heard Ali's voice then, listening to her carefully, when he had the lack of feeling in his legs he got his answer from her. He panicked then, trying to stand and finding he couldn't support himself, collapsing on the floor it had jarred everything in his body. He felt a depression settle in then as he was helped back into his bed, when Ali tried to hold his hand he just wanted to be alone then, knowing he was in for a long recovery he didn't need anyone to see him suffer or sulk. When she had admitted her love to him, it struck him hard, especially seeing Demetri in the room and not saying anything about it. He didn't fight her then, just let her take him until they reached the quarters, the shock and surprise had wormed its way deep into him. His heart beat rapidly as he tried to control his breathing, he was still having a hard time believing it was true, that everything was actually happening like this. Ali looked back at him now, doing some final touches as she stared at him with his bewildered look. "You going to watch tv or no?" Marcus came out of his wandering, still holding the remote in his hand. "You know the last time I actually watched tv?" "Let me guess, 1950?" He gave her an unamused look. "You know I'm not that old right?" She shrugged at him. "Could have fooled me." Her smile spreading across her face as he shook his head, the same smile on his face now. Turning the tv on finally, he felt awkward holding it in his right hand, his fingers were still somewhat numb from the fight. He struggled initially until getting his fingers to obey. "this is going to be really difficult to do." Ali had finished up plating the food as she set it on the table, coming over and wheeling him to the table she sat down beside him now, he set the remote aside as he tried to eat, feeling awkward still, Ali noticed his struggles. "You only have one broken arm Marcus, you should be able to eat." "I'm left handed." Her eyebrows lifted in mock surprise. "Really? I didn't know that." He let out a soft laugh as he gave her a gently nudge, finding that he was all he could manage as his body was weak. He was only able to eat a little bit of the food, his stomach having shrunken during his time unconscious. Ali taking his plate away then as he simply sat there at the table. All of it finally sinking in as he saw her finishing putting everything away. "This is seriously OUR room Ali?" She put her hands on her hips as she looked at him. "Of course it is, did your time away make you deaf or we're you just ignoring me?" "Well I.... I mean I just...." She shook her head at his stammering and walked over to him, giving him a kiss on his lips, letting her feeling rush into him as she cupped his face with both of her hands, he melted as the warmth and happiness settled in finally. "Yes, this is our room my love. I'm going to take care of you until you get better, like you did me." His smile grew then, a genuine warmth radiating from him now as he reached up and held her hand now, closing his eyes gently as he let her touching take him away now.
9. Marcus could see Ali out of the corner of his eye, sitting with her arms crossed now, he let his heart settle, this was the first time she would actually sit on a training session with them and he knew it wasn't going to be anything special, no one beside himself, Neos and Pocket would actually experience anything. Luwien was a nice addition to their party now, he relied on the young man more now as the protector of their physical forms, Marcus was able to see into the normal world, but there was still always that slight delay when he returned to his body. And now that Ali was there, it made it all the more comforting and made him feel that Neos was very safe now. He placed a hand on Neos face, seeing a smile glow on his face, the runes coming to life with just a simple touch now. "Ok Neos, are you ready to start?" He nodded furiously, getting ready to settle in and let Marcus do the work when he caught his attention. Neos speaking up. "Daddy, Can I take us there today?" Marcus felt a little surprise hit him, and pride as well, smiling at him he nodded. "Go ahead Neos, we're ready." Neos squeaked with excitement before settling into his comfortable position, Marcus and Pocket ready as well as they waited. Marcus blinking only to suddenly find himself in the shadow realm, standing around he let out a laugh at how quick the transition was, the feeling smooth and down right effortless for Neos now. He felt the small hand take his, looking down he saw Neos smiling up at him, he could feel the proud feeling trying to overwhelm him. "I did good daddy?" Marcus nodded, his throat tightening up and making him unable to speak. Swallowing he opened his throat so he could talk to Neos, Pocket standing near by with a look of surprise. "You have come a long way Neos, lets try to do some other things ok?" He nodded as they turned to Pocket now, Pocket coming over and holding Neos other hand as they began to explore, this shadow realm was slightly different then the one Marcus seemed to bring them to often. He could see structures now, the buildings ethereal in look, passing through them as if they were nothing, they explored the world more carefully now, seeing shapes and things moving in the darkness of the world made Marcus realize that this area of shadow was more wild then ones he been to before. Beings of an unknown origin prowled this world, they seemed to keep their distance but Marcus felt unease still. He had put up his own barrier now, keeping anything at a further distance now, Neos glowed with an eerie dark blue now, his happy face still smiling. They continued about unimpeded, performing complicate runes and techniques along their path, all of the runes causing different effects, some were minor while others caused the world itself to brighten up before it darkened again. This seemed to be going on for hours to them, Pocket walking with them as content as possible. Marcus let his mind float back to the training room, remembering how clear the look was in his eyes, he had seen the look of surrender in his face. The look would of brought joy to his heart normally, the path clear to him now, but all he could feel was sadness and grief for the mans loss. They may have fought, hard tried to harm one another, but it was all for the wrong reasons, they fought for jealous possession of Ali, instead of fighting for what would make her happy. He would accept the 'victory' when he could, but right now, he just needed Ali to be happy, and her happiness was with her children, not either one of them right now. They stopped for a little bit, getting some rest finally, Marcus leaning down to talk to Neos. "Can you bring up the mirror so we can see mommy and Luwien?" Neos did it instantly, his hands not even moving as the mirror appeared, the size of it showing the whole room. They cold see Ali still sitting patiently in the chair, Luwien near by with his staff in hand. They could see Neos runes glowing faintly now, Marcus responded with every glow. "I guess we're putting on a light show for your mom huh?" Neos nodded, suddenly skipping off then, Marcus standing to follow after him, a figure appearing to his side, Marcus striking out instantly by reflex. The figure vanishing and appearing only inches from the place it stood. "You are quicker then I give you credit for Demos." Marcus eyes focused in on Exodus now, shaking his head as he straightened out his body now. "You shouldn't sneak up on me like that, this isn't a level of shadow I am familiar with." Exodus showed his smile to him. "It's alright, I'm sure Neos can teach you how to get here more. You can make this your own private Shadow realm, maybe where your grandfather can't look in on you while you do...." "Why does everybody know about that? All you dead people do is watch what I do now!" Exodus shrugged at him. "Well, when you are doing things like that, with my daughter, I take an interest." Marcus would of blushed in embarrassment as hearing the tone in the mans voice, his skin tone the same as the shadow user. Any blushing simply was lost in his dark skin, he did feel his chest tighten at the memory, then it further tightened at remembering he hadn't been anywhere close to her fora while. "Doesn't really mater now. She hasn't shown any interest yet, I'm not sure she wants anything to do with me anymore." A knowing smile on Exodus face, Marcus catching that instantly. "That will change soon enough, but I have to warn you, this is gonna hurt." Marcus face showed questions gathering, Exodus disappearing now, he heard a scream and whipped around, Pocket stood in horror as she held on to Neos now. The obsidian skinned man standing their now, his snow white hair contrasted horribly with the world around them, his eyes looked weak now, his skin less taut then it had been before. Marcus was there in only a few steps, standing in front of the two, his heart was beating furiously now, the cold chill reaching in and trying to take his heart and crush it. His face was cold as he looked at the form of Anomander, seeing how weak his body looked now, he didn't understand but he grinned none the less. "Look a little weak Anomander." The yellow teeth showed in his gruesome way. "I feel great actually, thank you for your concern." "What are you doing here?" Marcus having no intention of being pulled into any battle of wills. The yellow smile still on his face. His clawed hand pointing to the boy behind him, Marcus glancing back momentarily before looking forward again. "I originally came only for him, but now that you are here, I can kill two birds with one stone." Marcus drew his swords then, holding them firmly as he readied himself. "You won't have my son, you'll have to kill me first." "I intend too." Marcus heard a distinct ring as Anomander drew a sword, the weapon a double edged sword, the tip was different in the fact it was squared off instead of pointed. Darkness wormed its way across the blade now, Marcus recognizing the weapon instantly. "Remember the sword Marcus? Iron Bars was very fond of it." Marcus felt his rage grow as the runes burned to life, lunging forward now with a roar he struck at the man. The sound of metal on metal as their swords began to sing with each hit, the movement becoming blurred as Marcus' runes grew in intensity and his speed and strength growing. Anomander block, parrying, and dodging easily, Marcus rolling, spinning out of the way of each move he couldn't block. Marcus knew he should of had the advantage, his twos words could get more hits in, but Anomander seemed almost god like with his one sword. His speed and finesse with it was unprecedented in Marcus mind, He spun in mid air to avoid a low cut to his legs, the sword suddenly coming down on him and he blocked by crossing his tow swords. His eyes focused forward as he yelled to the two behind him. "Run! Get Neos out of here!" He didn't know if they actually run, all he knew was that he was fighting for his life now, and this was a fight he wasn't sure he would win. He felt the get around his defenses as it cut across his leg, the edge pitting deep as Marcus grunted withe the pain, trying to removed and arm he missed his target but was able to bring his other blade around to skim it across Anomanders own leg, the damage hardly worth the opening he left then. Anomander sword coming across Marcus right arm, cutting deep and he felt the tendons snap, his fingers loosing the ability to grip as the sword fell from his grip he roared in pain as he fought on with his other sword, one arm hanging useless now. He did his best to back up a few steps, his left leg bleeding freely, pain radiating up his entire body now. The warm blood flowing down his arms, the swords still singing as he did his best to block, unable to get a hit in now. Anomander struck out with his foot now, the boots he wore and his combined strength enough to break Marcus leg as he kicked his thigh. The shatter leg giving out as Marcus screamed in pain with the impact of falling, He held up the other sword now, trying to hold off the attacks, his bod getting tired and trying to fight off the pain. He tried to block a downward swing, succeeding this time he prepared to counter attack when he felt a flash of white how pain in his left arm now. Anomander had been hiding his speed, after his hit he had managed to draw back the sword then drove it forward, the square edge went into his left forearm horizontally, the blade passed with ease now, shattering both bones in his arm as it cut through the tendons, his hand loosing grip of his other blade. Marcus was on his knees now, blood flowing form his body now, he was feeling light headed now, confident he was bleeding to death. Anomander sheathed his own blade now, casually picking up one sword, then the other off the ground. Looking at the blades as if admiring them, a sick grin on his face as he held them firmly know. "These are very nice, I see why Blues liked them so much. Too bad they didn't do you any good." Marcus breathing was heavy, his eyes focused on Anomander still, the bleeding was stopping, Marcus already concerned about that since he should of started healing already. "You won't be closing up your wounds anytime soon, thanks to Iron Bars' weapon." Anomander speaking as if reading Marcus' thoughts. He swallowed back the dryness in his throat, speaking in hoarse voice. "Kill me already, you still won't get Neos." Anomander letting out a twisted laugh from behind his smile. "Not just yet Marcus." The next move was almost lightening fast, Anomander thrusting forward then, the two swords passing through Marcus' body then, the sword penetrating his lungs and pushing out the back. He gasped then, the pain so much that his body went numb, he trembled lightly as he tried to breath, the air feeling thinner now. His eyes were wide as he stared at the black skinned man. "You still ave longer to live, I need something from you Mystic. Now, I will take it." His clawed hands reached out, gripping Marcus head as he began to whisper something. Marcus suddenly felt a pull then, something inside of him being torn from his own soul. The energy leaving him through the runes, he tried to scream as it felt like someone had set his skin on fire, his body unable to do anything but tremble as his eyes were wide, staring at the black sky. Anomanders skin becoming taut again, his eyes taking on a more youthful look as his muscles regained shape, his body taking on a more powerful stance as he ripped the life from Marcus. The spell only lasted moments, but felt like an eternity to Marcus until the hands released his head, he slumped as best he could ,the swords still in his chest. He felt the blood in his throat now, the swords keeping the blood flow slow, but steady he coughed blood splattering out, strings of red saliva hanging from his lips then. He lifted his head as best he could, his red teeth showing to Anomander. "You'll never have my son." He said weakly, feeling the life pulling away form him now, he breathe harshly, the pain holding on to his body now. Anomander drew his blade again, his yellow teeth no more, but they still held their sharp points. "You will be number 7 Marcus. Pity, I had hoped you would be last." Marcus growled lightly, the blood frothing at the corners of hsi lips. "Better hope you..... finish me now...." He stared with defiance in his eyes, Anomander holding the blade to the side of his neck, his dark grin showing his intent as he blade back. A small shape appearing before Marcus now, the dirty blond hair looking up at the dark skinned man, his runes burning harshly now as he stood before the man. "LEAVE MY DADDY ALONE!" Marcus heard the boy scream at Anomander, his wicked grin on his face, until he saw the small stuffed fox beside Neos, the creature looking at Anomander with what looked like a murderous intent. The fox's body shredding to bits as the creature grew, a massive hound appearing where the fox had been, his body easily as thick as a barrel, it would have been easily up to Marcus waist standing on all fours, the boy was dwarfed by the sheer mass of the creature, the hounds black fur sleek and had a slight shine to it, the creatures muzzle pulling back showing off its gleaming white teeth. Anomander prepared to strike the hound, when he suddenly heard the growls around him, six more appeared now, walking from the shadows, each one different, one was gray with milky whie eyes, another had a scar cross its face, each one varied in look, each was a different size, none were smaller then half of Marcus height. Each had a look of murderous intent ion their eyes. Marcus eyes were wider now as he saw the number. Seven hounds, he has seven hounds! He thought to himself, Anomander's face was one of worry now. Neos stood at the for front, his hands balled in fists. "LEAVE!" He screamed at the demon of a man, the world shifted then, Marcus coming awake then as he felt on his back, he couldn't catch his breath, breathing harshly as he was staring up at the ceiling. He felt hands on him now, he could hear faint words as he tried to look around, his body feeling warm pool around him, the feeling was leaving him cold. He tried to talk, only managing a few words. "Neos...Neos..." He coughed then, the violent nature of it making him spit up more blood, a fine mist sprayed from the holes in his chest coating anyone above him in blood. He felt his body being moved then, his vision blurring and going dark momentarily as he found himself on gurney looking around. The other around him now where blurs of faces, he tried to understand what was going, his breath not catching as he felt like he was suffocating now. Patch was over him now, seeing the blood and the holes in Marcus he went to work instantly, his face showed his terror and shock he suddenly yelled for tools, his hands still on Marcus as he a green glow touched his flesh. "He's not healing! Oh gods, we need to do surgery now!" They brought over the instruments now, another medical assistant bringing him anesthesia when Patch stopped her abruptly. "He'll die if we knock him out, he's got to be awake for this." The face sin the room we're all horror stricken as he started his work, Marcus unable to scream as he felt the tools digging into his body, his body twitching and moving until he felt hands holding him down. Blood lining the corners of his mouth as he coughed again, the blood splattering then, he tried to look at faces, tried t see who was around, but all he could do now was hear someones screams of distress, feeling the sadness in the screams he held on to that with what little consciousness he had. The pain becoming so overwhelming that Marcus felt his vision begin to fade, his mind slipping away then as he left this body trying to escape the pain.
10. The past few weeks had proven to be easier as the days trailed on, watching Ali became less and less taxing. It soon came to the point where Marcus could meditate almost the entire time of his shift. He had done everything he could to reach her these days, her form no longer appeared to him, she had just vanished in front of him one day, he had searched out for her and found nothing. It felt like watching her die, seeing her vanish from his eyes, he couldn't do anything else. Finding the Shadow realm lonely now he would simply stand quietly in the world, letting his thoughts wonder until he couldn't wander anymore, the suns rays always interrupting him as it forced him to pull away. Demetri taking control when the time had changed, he visited Patch more now, knowing what the man himself had gone through for several years now. How he had been rejected by her in the most innocent way, she never meant harm and he never believed she did, that was a strength Marcus respected. He kept Patch up-to-date about her health, how she was managing, she hadn't had a relapse, hadn't tried to claw her skin off like before. Marcus could still feel the phantom pains of where her nails had tore a this flesh, where she had peeled his skin from his back, he was going to keep that from her as long as he could, if he could, he would never tell her about that. The passage of days had become nothing to him now, he spent all of his time with Neos and Pocket now, Jason would come and go as he pleased to see Ali. Luwien had made his present known often enough that Mist brought him around more, Sasa had returned to the Southern Base for now, not sure when he would come back. Jeff was so quiet that he was sure he was just a mute now. Neos kept up with Marcus training, he challenged the boys powers, also challenging his ability to adapt to different situations. Marcus may life for a long time now, but he wanted Neos to know everything he had ever learned, the need to pass on his family knowledge. He taught him the small family secrets they had developed, techniques and runes he hardly used himself, Neos just absorbed it all up like sponge. Pocket was more then accommodating to the ritual they had now, she didn't understand anything he talked about, but it gave her a chance to test out her abilities, to grow stronger, she was getting better at walking different dimensions now. Marcus and Neos often traversed them with Pocket now, they also spent a lot of time figuring out the mystery on Pocket's sister. The different perspectives always produced new theories on what had happened and what they could do. All of the suggestions were just that though, suggestions that had no weight or merit. Now, Marcus didn't think about any of that, seeing Ali come awake had shocked and awed him in such a way he wasn't sure he would ever experience it again. Seeing how she reacted to Demetri, how she had pulled away so violently and in such ferocity, he almost couldn't believe what he was seeing. Blind panic in her eyes as he settled her down on the couch then, seeing her tears falling form her face as he knelled before her he tried to connect with her again. Her emotions flooding out now with such strength that it almost hurt, almost knocked him down, he steeled himself enough that he hoped it would be enough for him to get through this. He tears making it all the more difficult, her face in her hands as she continued to sob. "It still hurts Marcus! Even now I can feel my heart breaking!" He frowned slightly, watching as her hand wrapped around her scarred arm he saw the implication then making his body tense. "And what happened to me? Why...why do I have so many scars?"She bit her lip and Marcus' eyes widened as he saw the blood seep from the corner of her mouth, he grazed his fingers along her cheek and felt his heart twist as her teeth only sunk deeper into her lips. "Alex, stop it. Your hurting yourself."She didn't seem to hear him as more blood came from her lip and he acted instinctively as he bent down and pressed his lips to her's, tasting the blood he felt her stiffen, her teeth dislodging from her lip, he pulled away, his heart beating frantically. "Why am I so ugly now." His eyes widened at her statement. He felt almost on the verge of breaking down then, her skin had always been beautiful to him. Every scar was something he treasured in his own way, her scars defined her, made her who he knew she was. He never cared about them, it didn't matter what size they were, he would never care. "You not." She squeezed her scarred arm and whined, the whine tearing at his heart as he saw the pain on her face, the metallic taste of blood still on his tongue, his heart beating so fast now that it was getting harder to breath. He kept his breathing even as long as he could mange it now. "Don't...don't try to tell me I'm not...I'm covered in scars now Marcus! I'm so broken..." She pulled her knees to her chest, putting her face in her knees as she sobbed openly infront of him, he reached out then, his hand touching her's as it wrapped around her legs. He dug his fingers in around her hand, giving it a reassuring squeeze when he knew he had it firmly in his hand. "Stop it Alex, you are not broken. You are more...... defined now." He heard her sob softly. "Don't lie to me, I'm like an old doll now. Sewn back together, just to make someone happy." His face darkened then, holding her hand firmly now he let it all out then. "I told you Alex, years ago when we were alone. The first time we made love, do you remember it?" She nodded softly, he would have missed it if he hadn't be hoping for it. He continued to speak then. "I told you then, 'I love your skin, no matter what is on it,' and that has not changed." He didn't see a change in her then, just her tears growing. His body reacted then, his mind simply letting his feelings roam free now. His hand pulled hers away from her grasp around her legs and placed it on his face, holding it there as he spoke. "If your scars make you broken, what does that make me? What does that make each and every tattoo on my face, my arms, legs, my entire body, what does that make me?" She shook her head now, looking at the marks on his face, the intricate design that crossed his entire body. "That's different Marcus, these are so beautiful. I love these marks." He let her words sink in before speaking. "It's not different Ali, your scars, those are your marks too. And to me, to Demetri, they are beautiful. I hate remembering how you got them, what drove you there, but I value those marks. It shows that you have the uncanny ability to survive, against all odds, you survive." He kept her hand to his face, feeling then her slender thumb gliding across his skin then, lightly tracing a rune on his face. She finally managed to pull her hand away, holding her legs close again he felt his heart break again. Thinking he was getting close, only to find her pull away, he finally just leaned forward and kissed her gently on her forehead. He was rose form his position, ready to turn away and sit in far chair when her hand lanced out, grabbing his arm he looked to her face. "Sit next to me..... please Marcus." He obliged her request, the tears still flowing but having slowed, he sat beside her then, she didn't cuddle up to him, she didn't wrap her arms around his waist. All she did was rock slightly as she cried, whispering about her scars. He did what he could, wrapping his own arms around her to try and provided some sort of comfort. He didn't know what to do for her, all he could think of seemed to be the one thing he felt would be the wrong thing to say. He pushed it away, coming back with force every time he kept pushing it away and until it only crowded his thoughts now. He didn't dare speak the words, he simply let them runes express it, letting the words float gently into her, he hoped it would be enough. He wasn't sure what he was going to do when he needed to start with Neos, all he knew was he needed to be here right now, he needed to be in this very spot. I love youHe mouthed the words now, hoping he could give them strength.
11. Marcus chest was tight now, he felt almost as if anxiety was taking over now, the thought almost made him laugh. In the time he had returned to the Northern base, he had faced down Nightwalkers, an almost god like monster man, soul crushing rejection, a vampire coven and gods know what else, and he was feeling anxiety from just thinking about giving Ali a bath. He steadied his breathing as he simply took it one step at a time, guiding her slowly through the room. "One step at a time Ali, we have all the time we need ok?" He wasn't sure if the words were comforting at all, he didn't even know if they were the right words, all he knew was that he needed to keep talking. She seemed to react slightly, her head simply laying on him now as he walked her slowly to the bathroom. He delayed the trip as much as possible, letting her walk as slow as she wanted before taking her all the way to the master bathroom. He wasn't sure how he should feel about this, he was with her alone in a long time, she was what he wanted. But, in her current state, he couldn't help but the sadness and depression threaten his heart, her sunken cheeks and frail form was almost too much for him to bear, she hardly weight anything anymore. He felt he could just scoop her up in one arm, like he did to Neos many times, he felt concerned as well at the feeling that he could break her with just the wrong movement, the wrong twist of his hand. They finally entered the bathroom after what seemed like an eternity, he never fully got over the luxurious feel of the entire place, the bathroom itself easily could have been someones quarters in the base. Half of the floor was carpeted, starting from the door way and ending in the middle of the room, the rest was tile and ended where the bathtub sat. The counters were white marble, the faucets were sterling silver, Marcus almost expected them to be gold plated that poured out diamonds and rubies. Hew saw that the shower was separate form the bath tub, the shower having a single door that opened up to reveal a large tile floor inside. The bath tub was rather large with what looked like water jets, Marcus could only feel more uncomfortable by the second, he was sure he was gonna become agoraphobic because of this place. He settled Ali down around the edge of the bath tub, Marcus trying to set her up so she wouldn't fall back and hurt herself. When he was satisfied he turned the knob, the metal of the handle cold against his hand, turning it as far to the hot side as possible, holding his other hand under the water, he turned the heart down until he found the right temperature. Plugging up the drain he let it start to fill slowly, constantly making sure the water was the heated perfectly for her. He saw out the corner of his eye of her wavering, he was about to turn and grab her when he saw that she simply folded to her side and laid her head and hands on his bare back. He shivered slightly at how litter her weight actually affected him, he also realized that the shiver was from her being this close again, with her just laying on him now. He closed his eyes for just a moment, letting his mind wonder, his eyes snapping open at the whisper he heard. "Thank you." The words so weak and frail he was almost sure he was losing his mind, the voice he had heard in other worlds having followed him now. But, when he turned, Ali sitting up right he saw that smile on her face, the moment of clarity there, then gone as quickly as her smile became lazy again. He let a smile crease his face, trying to keep as much warmth in it and push away any sadness that hid in his eyes. The water had reached its peak, turning it off, he pulled his attention back to Ali, a sudden hesitation flooding him as he knew what he needed to do next. He slowly reached forward, gently taking hold over her loose fitting shirt he began to pull it over her head, her arms complying as it slipped easily off. He set it aside before looking back, realizing then that the shirt was the only thing she had been wearing to cover her breasts, he saw the scar then, he also saw where her skin had become drawn. He hoped she would continue to cooperate with them when it came to food, they needed her to be strong, if not for her sake, for the sake of both men's hearts. He had her stand as he removed the rest of her clothes. Guiding her into the water then, sitting her down as he began to bath her, his hands gliding over her skin with water to start, he felt her bones then, feeling her spine as he took his time, talking at the same time. "I wish you cold just tell me what to do Ali, I'll do it. I would do anything." Adding the soap then, he carefully rubbed her down, trying to get her as clean as possible, Demetri's words hanging in the air now. He felt her a few times follow his hands, her body moving with him every so often, he held on to those moments as long as he could. When he finally finished, he had to walk over quickly to get a towel, he unplugged the drain as helped Ali to her feet. Drying her off carefully, but as quickly as possible, he wrapped her in the towel then, guiding her int he bedroom before setting her down on the bed, quickly going through her drawers before he found clothes he could get on her easily. Pulling the towel off, he dressed her quick enough before he dried her hair as best he could, she smiled at him still. He leaned forward once he was done and kissed her on the top of her head, pulling back the covers he helped her into her bed, tucking her in as she saw her settle in comfortably. Grabbing a chair he settled it close to the bed, seating himself he leaned back in it as he rubbed his face now. Gods I hope things keep going well. He thought to himself as he kept his eyes on her, his heart still not trusting she would be ok alone. He would make sure she never was again.
12. There is finally a light at the end of this horrible tunnel, finally, some progress. Marcus thought to himself as he back off from Ali now, walking over to Patch he sat beside him now, seeing the worn and aged look on his face. He tried to keep his demeanor relaxed now, Ali having dulled out the punishment to him for speaking to Dante that way, they all knew about his anxiety, the tension on his shoulders now. Marcus let out a sighed as he rubbed his face, leaning forward in his chair now. "You need rest Patch." The medical examiner looked at him, his eyes were blood shot and bags showed clearly now. "i need Ali to get better first." Marcus shook his at Patch, his face looking dark now. "I know how you feel Patch, you need to rest or you'll end up dead." He heard him scoff then. "Sorry we can't all be like you mystic, all powerful and omnipotent! Sorry us lowly mortals are so frail." Marcus stared at him then, his feelings cold now as he could see the damage the healer was doing to himself. "I'm going to let that slide for now healer. I'll attribute your attitude to your lack of sleep." Marcus rose then, his body taking on a commanding stance then. "Get some sleep, or I'll have you removed from your duties and suspended from the Med ward until you are at full capacity. I need you better to make her better Patch." Marcus could see a bitterness in his eyes, the lack of sleep and proper nourishment was putting him on edge. Marcus couldn't relate much to that feeling anymore, he imagined Demetri would be more sympathetic to his plight. He turned away then walking back to where Ali had fallen into a sleep, a smile creased his face now, they had to taken one victory at a time, anything that made them understand on how to bring her back was more then enough. Marcus placed a hand on Tanks shoulder, the young man looking up at, a great smile on his face with tears gently rolling down his face. An imagine hit Marcus suddenly, Tanks face changing to see the grizzled look over an old veteran he knew, a red beard on his face as the same smile. The imagine vanished as quickly as it came, Marcus blinking rapidly before straightening out, his smile fading then. He cleared his throat before speaking. "You two take care of her right now, I need to check in on a few things. I won't be gone long." They nodded to him before he walked out the door, his memory suddenly remembering words spoken to him three years ago. "He died in the field, reports fuzzy. You should look at it sometime, you might glean more from it then I did." He felt a twinge of sadness seep in, and then a feeling of dread creeping in. He walked through the corridor now, his pace urgent as he made it to the record room. Going through the clerk, he was able to find the records he was looking for, paper files still holding the most amount of information, considering the operative he was looking for was around while paper was the main record holder then. He searched the files until he found the one he wanted, opening the folder he scanned the contents until he came across the last bit. 'Operative: Iron Bars, Status: Deceased. Items found: Crimson Guard Uniform, communicator, empty scabbard, pendent. Corners Report: Deceased was found with multiple stab wounds to his upper torso, two puncture wounds in his neck. Heart was destroyed, black substance all that was left. Victim showed signs of a struggle.' Marcus reread the material two more times, his means of death was disturbing and was far to well connected with the others deaths. What disturbed Marcus the most, was that Iron Bars' sword was missing, everyone in the Crimson Guard kept their swords close, only Blues had given his away weapons away, other members of the Crimson Guard had been buried with their weapons, Iron Bars shoulder have been the same. Marcus closed the folder then, setting it back into the box with the other files, he closed it up and set it aside, leaving the archives with more on his mind now. He didn't remember Iron Bars being at the sealing, but, he didn't remember much, he still felt it was wrong for him to have died like that. He would need to find out why he was chosen, and why he had to fall.
13. "Can you pass me that Luwien?" He blinked at Marcus, looking where the sound of his voice came from. Marcus sighed momentarily as he placed his face in his palm at his slight embarrassment. "That was my fault Luwien, reach to your left, there will be a container there." Luwien grabbed the contained and tossed it easily to Marcus, his aim dead on. Marcus giving out a small chuckle as started seasoning the meat sizzling in the pan now, he was trying to keep his mind occupied, Tank was taking up watch for now, Marcus was still unsure of whether it was safe enough to leave Ali alone, he was glad for Dante being near and able to help out so much. This dinner would be a proper thank you to him, he also felt he owed it to Demetri, with their arguments having died out for now, he understood they needed to maintain some civil behavior now. They understood now that a choice didn't needed to be reached immediately, Ali's life had become more important now, her mental and emotional health needed the most help now. Marcus still couldn't touch or talk to her in the shadow realm. He had been able to rage in the other world about it, nothing to destroy in that world, his magic ran wild, he had felt what it was like to release it to the point of passing out. Sometimes, the face of that obsidian black skinned creature came back, his name floating in his mind again as he tried to recall more about him, he knew hardly anything about him, when he actually thought about it. That was unsettling in itself for Marcus, he prided himself on knowing more then anyone else, on being well informed, and he still had no idea who the others were. He had to push it away often, couldn't allow it to chew away his mind, couldn't let it consume him. "Luwien, can you manage this for me for a little bit?" "I'm not sure Marcus, I think I'll end spilling it all over the place. Since i'm blind and all." "No need for the remark, Luwien, I get it. I'll be right back." Marcus setting the towel over his shoulder as he walked over and entered the bedroom, seeing Ali just laying there. Her skin wasn't as pale now, but still she looked sick, like she was lacking in her will to live on. He sighed to himself as he leaned into the door frame, his arms crossed as he watched her closely now. He remembered the night when he would see her emotions break through, see her true self break through for just a few moments, those times are the ones he held on to now. He recalled them vividly now, he was sure he would always recall them now. He had been sitting by her bed one night, his mind looking for answers to the problem at hand, on what he could possibly due to reach her level in the shadow realm. It seemed anything he did couldn't change the fact that she was beyond his reach, her father having been a shadow manipulator must of had some sort of effect on her. He hadn't paid too much attention to her inactivity, he suddenly saw it then, the glint off her face as her eyes were closed, her body resting finally. The sight making his heart leap as she would whisper, the whispers growing as a name slipped from her lips. "Marcus, where are you?" He heard from her, all he could do was hold her close a she whispered to her back, having crawled on to the bed with her to cradle her head to his chest as he wept that first time, whispering to her, hoping she would hear him and comeback to them. He tried so hard that night, he used everything he could think of to try and pull her free, to return her mind to her body, to bring her spirit back. It inevitable failed, she had slipped back into her world, the tears drying up, Marcus flowed longer then. Until he finally let her go, pulling away to let her rest more, he didn't mention it to Demetri initially, he didn't need to see the grief in the mans eyes. Several nights later she did the same, this time uttering Demetri's name, asking where he was, Marcus stayed close still, simply asking someone to retrieve Demetri. He had come quickly then, whispering to her over and over again as she cried. The results were the same, she slipped away and they were left with broken hearts, Demetri and reluctantly gone back to bed, Marcus remaining in his place. She did this for sometime, the name falling for her lips was one of the two, he did what he could when he heard his, called Demetri when she uttered his. Nothing worked, she finally came back around enough that they could let her back to her quarters. He looked at her now, his face blank, but his soul pleading for her to come back, for her to just return to them. Especially after Patch's words, those hung around his neck now, a noose that no one but himself could feel or see, the knot tightened all the time, his throat would constrict with its tension, and before he was sure the blackness would take him, the noose would loosen. Turning away he went back to cooking, finishing up the meal he cleaned off and served up dinner, with Luweins help. "Dante, will you help feed your mother?" He nodded instantly as they both walked into the room, sitting beside her Tank simply helped her to and up right position, her hands and arms still functioned, they moved with an almost robotic motion. Marcus having cut up her food enough to just eat it all in bite size bits, he gave her a plastic utensil, keeping a close eye on her as she ate slowly. Her movements were almost unnatural in the stiff way she acted, almost as if her body was dead and she was back to life in a dessicated form. When she finished Marcus took her plate, giving her a light kiss on her head, he left, Tank giving her a kiss as well as they let her lay back down. Marcus tossing the dishes into the sink, he started to clean, his mind still trying to run rampant. He had set aside enough food for the giant for when he returned, Marcus plate still sat on the table, hardly any of it eaten. His appetite was weak today, he would finish it when he could, but he just couldn't eat right now. When he finished with the dishes, he packed them into the dish washer finally and dried off his arms. He turned around to see Neos playing with his fox, he smiled at the boys innocence, the marks on his body having gotten dark now, the lines distinct now, obvious to any around. He had also noticed his eyes had darkened several shades. They looked like Marcus' now, his build was still consistent with his Mother and father, his hair matching Demetri's almost perfectly. Marcus had watched one night when Dante had given Neos a bath, he had seen the runes all over his body now, their presences was known now. Marcus was glad his son wasn't going to get tattooed like him, but he was also sad that he was now cursed with the same exterior. He had done this for his own reasons, and because of the charge of magic in his body, his hair didn't grow anymore, he found that he frequently touched and rubbed Neos head to make sure his hair wasn't falling out, or that it was still growing. He saw Lily playing with him then, seeing how excited he was that his big sister would play with him Neos let his energy loose, his runes glowed suddenly, Marcus eyes widened moments before he rushed forward and dove for Neos. His arm scooping him up as he skidded across the carpet on his back, he let out a sigh of relief as he saw Neos' runes stop glowing. "Oh thank the gods! Neos, what have I told you about using your powers?" "Not to use them when I'm playing." He had a sad face on, his obvious means of getting out of trouble. Marcus smirking as he rubbed his head, checking one more time to make sure his hair was still there. "That's right, now, you can use them on Sly, but not on Lily ok?" Neos nodded, Marcus letting him go as the boy ran off, Marcus rising slowly, feeling the slight rug burn on his back he rolled his shoulders. He heard a knock on the door then, approaching it immediately he opened it to find and HDF messenger standing at the door, Marcus looked at him with an eyebrow raised. "The Commandant isn't here right now, someone already came to get him." "I'm looking for you Colonel Demos, Councilor Shield has requested your presence. He says to meet him at his office." Marcus bowed his head then, turning his head he looked to Dante. "Can you take it from here for a few Tank?" He nodded, already starting to heard the other two to bed, Neos running around his legs as Tank tried to get a hold of him. Marcus shook his head with a small smile on his face, Demetri had a wonderful family here, he wished he could of had that. He stepped out the door, walking down the hall, hot on the messengers heels they took a few minutes until they came to Shields office. Walking through the door, he came to the rather large office room, he saw Shield standing beside the chair, his mother stood to the other side of the chair, surprised to see her he bowed to them both before he saw who was in the middle. The High councilor tossed a folder on to the desk, Marcus wasn't sure what was going on now. "Councilors, may I ask why I am here? I didn't get much out of the messenger." The old man in the chair spoke first, his voice gravely with age. "Read the file please, Colonel." Marcus reached out and pulled it off the desk, opening the manilla folder he started looking through it. His eyes growing wide instantly and his mouth gaping now, he had to reread the information three times before he believed it. "This can't be right, this is impossible. She can't be dead!" The councilors held straight faces, the news was devastating indeed. "Commander Phoenix is dead Colonel, murdered in her own office. From what we caw of the scene from these photos, there was a struggle." Marcus shook his head, throwing the folder back onto the desk. "I want to see this scene myself, I'll find something they won't." He saw a smile on Shields face then. "We hopped you would say that Marcus." The mystics eyes shifted to him then, suspicions growing now. "Why is that Shield?" His mother spoke now. "You have to understand, the investigation of the Commanders death is a public on, we have our own unit working on it." "However." Marcus said, waiting for the rest. "However, we need you to go deeper. We think that your involvement should remain secret for now." Marcus silent now, his arms hanging at his sides as he looked to each face, each was closed of from him. Revealing nothing of their thoughts. "Fine, I'm going now then." Marcus was about to leave when he heard the gravely voice again. "You can only take three members of Alpha with you. We need to keep the numbers minimal." Marcus turned his head to look back at them. "Fine, I'm taking Pocket and Luwien. Any objections?" He heard nothing form them, he walked out then, he felt his chest tighten as he recalled the photos now. How her corpse had been riddled with holes, how she looked like she had been torn apart He shook it form his mind then, gathering the two he was taking with him, he headed for the departure point, finding Warp standing there now. "Lets go." Warp looked at the three, about to object when Marcus spoke. "We need to do this in one trip, you can take three of us. You have to build that power some how." She was hesitant at first, complying with his order as she placed two hands on Marcus, Pocket and Luwien putting a hand on her arms, they ripped through, finding themselves standing in the Easter base, Pocket leaning over as he vomited, Luwien breathing heavily, seemingly on the verge of it. "It's always hard on the first trip. Move." They moved through the base now, Marcus walking down the halls with ease as his body simply walked on. Coming to her office they passed through the yellow tape, Marcus standing at the front of them as he walked around the office now. He looked at the scene with as cold of a mind as he could manage, his words coming out harsh then. "Pocket, I need you to sense for any sort of disturbance, dimensional mainly. Luwien, I need your senses to find anything out of place, I don't care what it is, find something." They went about their tasks as Marcus approched the desk before him, blood still splattered all over paper work. The blood on the back wall and the ceiling, the chair was caked in it and Marcus looked at it carefully, the blood black now as he smelled something foul, tasting it on the air as he looked around. He came across the source when he found a severed Nightwalker arm under the desk. The darkness having protected it from vanishing, the thing was putrid and the blackened flesh had bubbled and festered. He didn't bother touching it, rising form looking under the desk he saw a look i Pockets face as if she was about to vomit. "This place is tainted with something dark, it's like being back in Russia." He looked to Luwien now, the young man feeling with his hands, he perceptiveness giving him an edge. "I feeling something wrong, this room feels as if it as tainted. I feel malice, it's unsettling." That was all Marcus needed as they walked out again, the culprit obvious in his own mind as they walked back to the departure point. Warp still standing there. "That was fast." "Back to Northern base. We need to report now." Their bodies ripped form this dimension, passing through several more before finally landing back at Northern Base, Marcus instantly walking, the other two trying to keep up, looking better then before but still looked sick. Roger appearing then, his face seemed distressed, Marcus raised at and eyebrow at him. "Whats the matter with you Cloak?" "Demetri, he hasn't responded to any calls, we lost his locator, we need you to go find him." Marcus crossed his arms then, dismissing Pocket and Luwien, his patience was thin right now. Seeing the place another friend died at tore at him, it was worse that all the clues pointed to Anomander. His black face grinning at him now. "Where was he last taken to?" A black smoke enveloping him now, suddenly standing in the woods Marcus looked around. Groaning at the suddenness of the move, he rest his hands on his hips, feeling the blades at his side, he had almost forgotten they were there. Walking through the forest, he began looking for Demetri, only seeing something had gone wrong when he walked deep enough in to see shattered trees, several trees look like they had been blown back by a destruct force enough to make them bow rather then break. He rushed forward then, feeling the urgency seep in now, drawing his blades, he held them ready, his instincts telling him they would be necessary.
14. He sat there, quietly at first, seeing how still she was, he touched her hand then, her skin cold and almost clammy. She didn't react, didn't fluctuate even the smallest hint, nothing indicated she was aware of anything. He had looked to where Demetri had been, thinking about how much restraint the man had shown, even when he had decked Marcus in this very med ward, he could of broken Marcus neck. He chose to simply hit him, they did blame each other for this, but now, they accepted that the blame was everywhere around them. Her skin was paler then usual, his olive tan skin more contrasting then usual. The sight of him made to want to almost scream with out rage, this was not the place she belonged, she belonged with her kids, with someone supporting her, someone to give her all that she would need. He sighed as he looked down from her face now, seeing marks on her arms his eyes widened a bit, his hands tracing the marks as it took a few moments to dawn on him. "Finger nails." He heard a voice over his shoulder. Patch standing behind him now. "She tried to claw her own skin off earlier, she's gonna be scarred for a long time." Marcus gently rubbed her arm now. "I don't care whats on her skin." He whispered to himself, remembering what he said about her scar on her chest, he didn't care about any of them. The scars just showed him how strong should could be, and how she bore the weight of the world around him. He breathed heavily as he simply looked at her lifeless body, her breathing even more shallow then he recalled form earlier. He felt conflicted now, he had an idea of something he could do now, he had seen her there before and was thinking she might be back now, he could talk to her then. He looked to Patch, he was still standing over his shoulder, this was a good of time as any. He didn't bother closing his eyes, his body staying rigid as his mind pulled away, the darkness appearing in an instant, throwing up his hand, the shadow swirled and the mirror appeared, looking down on the bodies, he could see Ali laying still, her dull eyes looking up to the ceiling, his body was still there as well. Rubbing her arm gently as Patch talked quietly now, Marcus not hearing the words as he started walking, the mirror following him now as he trekked through the swirling shadow now. He needed to find her, to know she was still alive some how. She appeared quick enough, he could see her holding herself, standing alone, he rushed forward then, yelling to her. He didn't bother to pay attention to the small details then, not until he was on top of her and tried to grasp her, his body passing through her as if she wasn't there. His eyes were wide, the thought sent terror into his body, he tried to get a hold of her arm, get her to see him, he just passed through her. He growled then, his mind only assuming one thing. "Ammanas! I will kill you! This isn't fun old man!" "This isn't a joke Marcus Demos." He whipped around then, the voice unfamiliar, he looked into a olive tan face, a dark beard on his face with his short military cut hair. He had a serious expression on his face, the man was massive compared to Marcus, he wore the military uniform of the HDF. Marcus stood as tall as he could, his muscle tightening as he ready to hold his ground. He looked to the mirror following him, the scene still the same now so he turned back to the man before him. "Who are you? You look somewhat familiar stranger." The face broke into a smile, the clash of white teeth against his dark complexion reminding Marcus of when he smiled. "I'm Exodus Talon, Marcus. I am Ali's father." Marcus simply stood in silence as he looked over the man, he would of said that it wasn't possible, that he couldn't be here. But, his own family resided in this very world, his father and grand father both lurking in this shadowed world. "Why are you here?" He simply said, he saw Exodus shake his head at Marcus as small laugh left his throat. "Just like your father. You are a little more straight forward then he was, but still did that same, remain silent thing." Marcus face was in a dark expression, he wasn't in the mood to deal with more madness. "You need to relax Marcus, just wanted to talk to you for a bit." Marcus gestured then to the shadow of Ali, it was moving and he could see tears on her face then. "What is this about? Why can't I talk to her? Touch her?" "The shadow realm you walk often has many levels Mystic, my daughter is currently on another level then you. Her mind pushed her out of your reach, knowing you could come here, she needed time alone." Marcus shook his head then, looking to the mirror again, Patch adjusting things, the sleep deprivation obvious in his eyes, but he still trudged forward, for his friend. Marcus looked back then. "I would say I find that hard to believe, but, not much truly surprises me these days." He heard another laugh from Exodus. "My daughter does frequently, from what I've seen of her memories. You sure did a number on her heart Marcus." His eyes fell away then, his shoulder slumping a little as he felt the weight come down on him again. "I did too much, there was a reason I stayed in the shadows of the world for so long. I was taught it was a safer that way, 'stay away from people, don't get to close to anyone, protect your heart.' I threw all f those lessons out the window, and look at the damage I caused." He heard Exodus scoff then. "Good, you should have thrown those lessons out. Your own father didn't even listen to those lessons, you're proof of it right here. He gave his heart to your mother Marcus, it's not meant to be horded, it's meant to be shared." Marcus felt his breath shorten, he felt the heart break seep in, Exodus was right in his words, he had given his heart to Masan first, he had thought his apprentice had torn his heart form his chest and destroyed it. Years later, Ali came into the picture, and he gave it away again. It took longer, and he didn't do it until the connection had been made, but now, it rest in Ali's hands, to accept or reject him at her will. He took in a deep breath, letting it out slowly before speaking. "Is there nothing I can do Exodus?" The man just smiled at him. "You'll see Marcus, it'll take something extreme." Marcus perked up then, the words foreboding his the other mans voice. "What extreme? What will happen?" Exodus shook his head. "I can't say anything more, things must occur without interference. For now, go back and stay at her side, she needs that right now." Marcus felt himself pull back then, his vision clearing up as he came back to the real world. He blinked a few times as he rose from the chair, stretching a little as he stood beside her bed, her hands suddenly twitching, her fingers becoming claw like as she suddenly started squirming, her hands trying to dig into her skin again. Marcus felt his body react, putting his body over hers the finger nails dug into his skin then, feeling them peeling away the skin and warm blood flowing down his back. Sweat beading his head as he roared for Patch, he came rushing in, instantly reaching out and grabbing a syringe, quickly inserting it into her IV, he pushed the plunger, the sedative kicking in as her hands fell way, his blood on them now with his skin under her finger tips. He stood up then, feeling slightly dizzy but staying on his feet, he wanted to scream then. But, he held it in, he didn't need to make any noise, his face showing his pain clearly, Patch running over to begin the healing process. Marcus simply stared at Ali then, breathing heavily as Patch worked, once he had finished, Marcus started cleaning her hands then, removing the blood and flesh from her nails and slender hands. He wouldn't let her wake up with blood on her hands.
15. Marcus had taken up a place in one of the chairs, Patch's words had torn into him likes knives, he felt every cut and every slice into his soul. His thoughts were broken, unable to form coherent thoughts, especially ones that could be useful, the words cutting apart every thought he had as he tried to focus more, rubbing his forehead as he felt the panic in his mind. Everything was falling apart, Demetri's scene in he ball room, Ali storming out, Marcus' outburst as he decked a higher ranking officer in a crowded room, and then finally, there was this. He glanced at the motionless body on the table, the transfusion taking place now, giving her the chance to come back around. If he didn't know better, he would have taken her for dead, seeing enough corpses in the field she was barely breathing, her chest only lightly lifting, he didn't even see the slightest twitch in her muscles, nothing moved, nothing gave any indication she was still alive. He felt like crying again, seeing how this was indeed his fault as well, he had pressed to hard, he had tried too hard to be more then what he could be, he had pushed into her heart harder then what was safe. He had been selfish, he had been self-centered and never took into account her own thoughts. Every connection they had, every advantage he thought he had, turned out to be his biggest hindrance. He felt something warm touch his face and looked up to the window, seeing the sun peaking out now, he rose from his seat, trying to keep his emotions in check. "Your shift starts now Commandant." Demetri didn't say anything as Marcus was about to walk out, he heard him speak then. "Going to find Neos are you?" Marcus felt his heart stop as he froze in the doorway, his body stiffened at the name. He had completely forgotten about Neos, he felt the claws dig in more, he couldn't believe he had done that, he had let it slip from his mind entirely. Neither man could see the expression on his face, his wide eyes and his jaw slightly hanging open. They could see the tension building in his shoulders, his muscles tensing before he turned to look at them, his face as straight as he could keep it. "Yes, I need to continue his training." Demetri scoffed as he sat nearly Ali now. "Just looking for another way to break the family apart aren't you." Marcus ready to retort when he saw the look in Patch's eyes, holding up a single finger at the mystic, Marcus suppressed the feeling. Letting out a heavy breath before speaking. "I'm just teaching him to use his powers, he needs someone with experience for this sort of thing." "Good luck finding him then." Marcus frowned as he heard the harshness in Demetri's voice. "Where is he Demetri?" The giant was silent for now, Marcus felt his temper growing with his lack of cooperation. It was to be expected, both of them were at odds right now with each other, Marcus only being so well behaved due to Patch and Jason being near by, both kept looking at him, their attentions focused on both of Ali's lovers. His arms crossed as he waited for Demetri to speak. "He's with my family, with my blood." Marcus was ready to snap, he heard a growl form Jason as Marcus' runes glowed lightly. He disengaged from the conversation then, knowing what he needed he left, his blood pumping so hard and his heart beating so fast that all he could hear was the thump of it in his ears. He went to Pockets quarters first, finding her still asleep he woke her up gently, trying very hard to not just roll her out of the bed and order her to get ready. He couldn't displace his anger on her, it wouldn't be fair. After he spoke to her, breaking through her sleepy mind, informing her that she should get ready and meet him outside his quarters. She nodded sleepily as she rubbed the sleep from her eyes, Marcus left then, going to his own quarters as he changed, he had found all of his clothes from the ball on his bed. His mind sliding back to that event last night, Ali popping into his mind yet again, her dress had been breath taking, the form fitting look had made his breath quicken, he was only disappointed by the situation he had seen her in at that time. He had hopped for a dance with her, being able to hold her again in a more public setting, show her he could actually dance. He let out a sad laugh then at remembering her comment before they walked into the Club. "What's the matter Marcus, worried that a little dance club is going to blow the cover of you inability to dance?" He had to push away the bad feelings now, he couldn't let Neos see anything while they taught him. He dressed in his robe again, his swords hung up on the wall now with new pegs he had put in, he left them behind for now, walking out to find Pocket bright eyed and ready for their training. They walked through the halls, exchanging small talk, Pocket picking up pretty quickly that Marcus was distant today, she did her best to brighten his mood, but nothing seemed to work. They passed through several doors, several hallways, entering the Councilor chambers, they passed even more doors and until finally stopping at their destination. Marcus knocked gently, waiting patiently until the door opened, Madam Touching standing in the doorway, Marcus smiled at her as much as he could. "Mystic, surprised to see you here." Marcus bowed his head to her. "Morning Touch, I'm here to see Neos. We are here to continue his training." She looked at him with an unreadable expression. "Demetri brought him here, I don't think he would be ok with you being around him right now." "Please Madam Touch, he needs the experience. It'll only be for a few hours. I will leave afterwards." She looked hesitant at first, then allowed them in. Neos came running instantly, jumping into his arms, Marcus swinging him around. Beginning their training, it took what seemed like days, the time passing ever so slowly for them, they came out of the meditation soon enough. When Marcus opened his eyes he smiled at Neos, touching his hair when he suddenly saw faint lines on his face, the lines having the shape and consistence of the runes on Marcus' own body, his hand darker compared to Neos' but he could see the faint lines. He only stared for several minutes, marveling at his sons power.
16. Marcus had come out of his cell after what felt like hours, he had remained in the same position his entire stay in the room. He had let his mind go, he had moved through world upon world to try and dissipate his rage, his anger, and his sadness, he had meditated in a more conventional means, he never let his mind leave his body, he just remained silent as he quieted the voices in his head, all of the sounds dying down as he let his body relax, the tension leaving his body slightly. When he finally came around, he was on his feet and leaving the cell with his mind focused again, his heart beat had slowed enough to keep his body cool, he felt the cold ground on his feet, closing his eyes as he walked the halls slowly. He needed to just breath now, he kept going until he found himself in the med ward, Shield was doing rounds with Patch, he turned to see Marcus and smiled at him. "Ah, I see you finally came out of that room. You look better then you did before." Marcus just nodded to Shield before he suddenly heard an alarm go off in the med ward. "Alert, Life-sign faint in Training room. Need immediate medical attention." Patch took of then, Stitch in tow with Shield and Marcus following behind them wanting to know who could possibly have been so hurt in the training room. They swiftly made there way to the training room, arriving in only moments to arrive on a scene that sent horror and soul crushing sadness into Marcus' mind. Ali lay on the ground, her blood covering the mat, her body was torn to shreds. Puncture wounds through one shoulder, the arm useless then, the other arm was completely ripped off, bitten off in several bites. Marcus tried to scream then, feeling his heart simply die in his chest as he found he couldn't move, couldn't breath, Stitch and Patch moving quickly, taking her away into the med ward. Shield turning to Marcus as he was simply frozen with the fear at seeing her condition, his scream echoing in his mind with such ferocity he was sure his ear drums would burst. The scream finally reaching his lips as it tore from his throat, Shield holding him in a grip that couldn't relieve Marcus' grief. "Ali!" He screamed, Shield finally letting him go as he charged through the hall, his runes flaring to life but the glow looked sickly know, almost tainted with his fear and horror. The glow seemingly green in its foul presentation, when he made it to the med ward Shield wasn't far behind as Marcus could only watch as they reattached her arm, slowly and precisely attaching nerve stems, ligaments, tendons and muscles back together. They had stemmed the bleeding, using gauze before they reached the other areas, the arm having taken precedence. Once the arm was back on they then began the rest of her body, fixing the holes, plugging her into an IV to replenish her blood they repaired the holes, mending the broken limbs and the gashes in her body. Marcus hadn't felt the tears streaming down his face as stood as close as he dared, seeing the look on her face was what made him almost retch. She had been awake the entire time, every painful connection made, every stitching they had down, every last detail they took to stop her from dying, she simply stared into the ceiling. He couldn't understand it, he couldn't fathom why she would do this and why she would show nothing in her faze, even the pain should of made her flinch. Marcus approached after hours of fixing her, Patch and Stitch showing their fatigue, Marcus looked at her and seeing the still, dead look in her eyes. "Ali, can you hear me?" He said, his voice hoarse from weeping, the scream having done its damage to his throat. She turned her head just enough to look at him. "Of course I can, why wouldn't I?" Her dead eyes almost made him break down again, pushing back the tears and the feeling he cleared his throat. "Why Ali? Why would you do this?" "It doesn't matter anymore, nothing does." Marcus almost died hearing those words, sure he was about to collapse right there. Her words had been so cold, so unforgiving. "You can't mean that. You have far too much to live for." "No, I don't." "Don't say that Alex, you still have a family, three children for gods sake!" She didn't seem to care at hearing his words, she seemed to be looking past him now. She remained silent, Marcus broke it with his words again. "You still have me Ali, don't leave me. You can't leave me." Her next words cut like knives. "Why not? You did it to me." He reeled back then, his grief consuming him as he roared out, the tears returning as he gripped the side of her bed now. The sheer power of her words had broken him so easily, she had taken his heart and simply crushed it in her hands. "He doesn't love me anymore, I don't know when it stopped, but it did. All he cared about was getting even." Ali kept talking, her words making no sense in his moment of grief, he felt a hand on his shoulder, the hand suddenly whipping him around when a fist came down and smashed in Marcus face. He fell to the floor, his body no longer having the strength to stand. Looking up to see that it was Demetri now, the terror in his eyes mirrored by his rage. It clicked then for Marcus, his grief being consumed by the fires of his anger and hatred. "You did this to her!" Demetri growled at him. "You are the the one who did this Marcus! You tried to destroy everything we had!" "Gods dammit! I did nothing like that Demetri! I consoled her when she doubt her because of you! You drove her to this, because of what you did at the ball! She tried to kill herself." The words sinking in now, Marcus giving up on the fight then as he was sitting now, his knees pulled up and his hands on his head as he wept more. He didn't pay attention to Demetri anymore, he didn't pay attention to any of the words around, he only kept in his mind what she had said to him. His tears coming stronger as he felt them stab deeper and deeper into his soul.
17. Marcus could only watched the scene play before him, feeling like he was watching something unreal, as if he wasn't in his own body and this wasn't happening in reality. This could of been easily a time when he was in the shadow realm, he knew it wasn't though, everything was far too vivid, he wasn't looking through a giant mirror that showed him the world around him. He watched Ali's world fall apart, he saw the blow she had to absorb, he saw how much pain she really was in. He felt a sharp coldness seep into his stomach, twisting all sort of ways as he stood by helplessly, and as soon as it had began, it ended. Marcus watched her vanish into the crowd, the whispers starting the, the rumors growing yet again as Marcus went and sat down, feeling the shock of it all settle into his mind as he started to rub his face. He felt his body tremble lightly, he knew what that was the beginning of, Jason showed up quickly afterward, sitting beside Marcus and leaning in. "This is insane! Did he really do that to her?" Marcus could hear the the growl in Jason's voice, his eyes taking on that specific look that showed the change was imminent. Marcus reached out and placed his hand on Jason's shoulder, doing what he could to keep him calm. Marcus loosened his tie, feeling suddenly pent up in the monkey suit he wore, he only wore it for Ali, thinking to impress her at least a little bit. She hadn't even noticed him, hardly spoke to him except in her drunk stupor, he hardly felt able to move from his place in the chair, until he felt the spark in his chest, he felt sadness welling up in him, he could feel tears coming to his face. He touched his face, feeling the water gently rolling down his face, he didn't understand why this was happening, a rune on his flared to life briefly before he understood. Ali's runes was telling him everything she was feeling, he felt like everything was over then, he also felt a wall start to build, barring off everything from her heart. His own anger growing then, he pulled his tie off then, feeling his skin heat up be pulled off his jacket, rising form his seat he buttoned his shirt, yanking the tails from his belt line and tossing it on the table. Jason could smell the rage coming off of Marcus now, he could see light beads of sweat on his body, Jason rose and spoke quietly, a small smile on his face. "Why do you need to undress when you are going to kick someones ass?' Marcus turned his head, feeling the joints pop before he slipped of his sandals then, walking through the crowd in his dress pants now. His rage in his body rising, the heat coming off his body made people look back towards the source, seeing his dark expression they parted slowly, his muscles tensing as he readied to do what should have been done before. Pushing through the crowd, uncaring of peoples reactions he made his way to where Demetri stood with his date, Marcus felt disgusted for mistaking her for Ali, she had nothing that Ali did. When he was within distance, he spoke one simple word. "Demetri." The head turning to the source of the voice, a tattooed fist rocketed forward, smashing into the side of his face. He saw his head snap to one side before he saw the fierce look in his eyes. Arms suddenly lunged out and secured both me, Marcus feeling the rage take control, trying to pull away from the mass as Demetri did the same, the woman trying to hold him back as well, Marcus started yelling at him then, trying to move forward. "You stupid bastard! She loved you! Why would you do this to her?" "You were trying to steal her from me! You tried to destroy our family!" Grunts and growls coming form both men, the arms holding them tight enough to stop their progress. Marcus runes had a light glow to them now. "I didn't try to steal anything, all she wanted to do was prove to you that she was right for you! She would have died for you!" "And now she would die for you." Marcus felt frustrated and angry, his inability to speak to Demetri making the situation worse. The suddenly felt a pressure, the weight pushing them both down as the arms released them. They found themselves on their knees, trying to keep the weight from crushing their bodies, the both looked up at the sound of gasps and the footsteps that stopped before them. Shield was standing their now, looking at both with judgement in his eyes. "That's quite enough boys." Marcus saw him make a hand gesture towards him, he felt hands on him again, trying to struggle the pressure let off of his body as the two bodyguards lifted him to his feet. He didn't fight now, hie face still dark and his body tense as he breath harshly. "Take Colonel Demos to the brig for now, let him cool off in a special cell."The guards acknowledged his commands and took Marcus away, he turned to his own son then, relieving the pressure on him as well, seeing the swollen mark on his face now. "Go check in with Patch, retire for the night, you need your rest." The anger and bitterness clear in his eyes as she stormed off, pushing through the crowd. Marcus was dragged for several minutes before they came to a doorway, the guard sliding his key card, the door groaned open before they dragged him through the door, they came to one last door, the door itself was engraved with runes all over the surface. They pushed him inside, the door closing behind him, Marcus could see what the cell consisted of a small table, two chairs and a cot. He let his anger out then, roaring as he pounded on the door and walls, his hands coming in contact with a barrier that seemed to repel everything the did, his magic running loose as his emotions raged out. He eventually settled in the middle of the floor on his knees, finding himself breathing heavy and his body drenched in sweat, he felt tired now and simply sat in the middle of the room until he heard the door open. He turned his head to see Shield standing in door way, he looked away again, staring at the wall now. "Leave me alone Councilor, let me serve my time in peace." Shield let out a laugh as he walked into the room, the door closing behind him. "You won't be serving anytime Marcus, you just needed to let it all out. Your father was the same way." Marcus let his eyes look to Shield now. "He warded this room didn't he? It's why I can't break through." Shield showed his casual smile, winking at Marcus. "Your father was a bright one Marcus, he knew how he was, and guessed right how you would be." Marcus let his head turn to watched Shield, the Councilor walked to a chair and pulled it up and sat in front of Marcus. Leaning back as he looked the tattooed man over. Marcus spoke first. "You're not going to punish me for decking the Commandant? For hitting your son?" Shield kept his wicked grin on his face. "It's his call on what to do, I feel you are punishing yourself enough. Like I said, I knew your father very well." Marcus nodded as he lowered his head now. "How are the rumors our there?" Shield just shrugged, mainly for his own emphasis. "Don't know, rumors aren't my forte." "I'm sure they are talking about the Marked man trying to steal the Commandants wife." "That sure was quick to get around, I need to try to keep up." Marcus looked up at him. "Don't patronize me Shield." He held up his hands in a disarming gesture. "I'm just here to talk. I was asked to keep an eye on you, and after tonight, that's become horrendously obvious." Marcus started at him for a few moments, trying to grasp his words. "Who asked you to keep an eye on me?" "Your mother of course, worried sick about you. After you rushed out of her room to save my daughter in law, she knew you would be close to my family, so she asked me to make sure you didn't get into to much trouble." Marcus scoffed. "I'm more then capable of watching out for myself." "After tonight, seems to need guidance." Marcus waved him off. "I'm far older then I look Shield." "Oh I know, how long did you spend in that shadow realm again? Almost 60 years by their time maybe more? 6 days to the rest of us, but for you, it was different." "You couldn't know that, no one does." Shield showed his smile again. "I have my ways, now, I will leave you here for the time being Colonel Demos. Come out when you are ready, all you have to do is knock." Marcus remained on the floor, Shield walking away from him and exiting the room. Leaving Marcus to swim in his thoughts, he wasn't sure if he would try to rest in any form tonight, not wanting to ruin the world he had shared with Ali. He just sat on the ground, staring at the ground as he let his thoughts, grabbing anything he could to keep himself settled.
18. Marcus had followed them to the med ward after the mission, his eyes following Demetri and Ali as Patch and a new member appeared to start their healing. Marcus' had been easy, a simple touch on his face as his cheek bone was mended back together. Patch talked to him for a little bit as he noticed the look in Marcus' eye. "Something wrong Marcus? You know you are all set to go." Marcus looked to Ali on the bed before he rose from the doctors bench and bowed his head to Patch. "Thanks for the quick fix, Patch. Take good care of them." Patch looked at him oddly before giving him and unsure nod. Marcus left then, his body feeling tight from not having proper rest. He walked through the halls slowly, letting his mind wander and travel wherever it wanted, his eyes soon came across Luwien, he was standing alone. His back up against a wall as he seemed to be in a deep thought, Marcus approaching him now as he stood before the young man. He saw him look up at him, as much as a blind person could look at someone, and acknowledge Marcus presence before he spoke. "Mystic, I didn't expect you to come to me. I was confident you were still, distraught, about earlier." Marcus recalled clearly, he didn't bother with the emotions of it, he had let his mind fall into a panic. His thoughts hadn't been clear and he let the small things tear at his mind. He crossed his arms as he spoke. "I know you didn't mean anything by it, you couldn't have known what those swords mean to me." "I don't understand the attachment in general Colonel." One of Marcus brows lifted as he looked at the youth carefully. He saw some of himself in him now, the coldness was what really hit him the hardest, especially after Masan. When he had escaped to the Shadow realm to get away form it all. "I know what it is like to be in your position, if I have any advice form all the actions I've taken, all the places of seen, all the people I've come across in my life, it's this Luwien. Emotions are important, feelings are as much part of you as you're heart is. You'll never get stronger until you learn that lesson for yourself." Luwien just nodded at him, his expression still blank as he remained silent now. Marcus gave him a slight bow, not caring if he could see it or not, he then turned and resumed his walk. He spoke to Pocket briefly, informing her of their training schedule the next day, they departed and Marcus made it to his room finally, opening the door he set his swords aside as he settled into couch for a little bit. He felt a ache on his cheek now, his joints ached slightly as well, his body was still young, still strong, but his mind was much older then it should have been for someone his age. He settled into his normal position, his eyes closing as he relaxed, his mind breaking off as he opened his eyes to the swirling shadows. He rose, stretching his body out as he began walking, not understanding why, but he felt he should. The time dragged on before he suddenly came upon someone else, the surprise in his voice when he saw her. "Ali?" She turned then, he saw a brightness in her eyes he hadn't expected, she stared up at him from where she was sitting, her body healed in this world. He felt warm at seeing her healthy again, his heart beat faster at seeing how excited she seemed to see him, he loved seeing that look in her, and he wanted to see it every day. "Marcus..." She simply said to him before he spoke again. "What are you doing here?" She shrugged at him with an annoyed look on her face. "Hell if I know. Patch drugged me because I wouldn't shut while he was treating me. Next thing I knew, I was here." He nodded to her, the next question on his mind stung a little but he needed to ask anyways. "I see, do you want to go back?" He saw then something he wasn't ready for, he saw a doubt in her eyes, his last question seeming to hit her harder then he had expected. He could only stare at her as he waited for her say so. He fond his eyes wandering then, time passing them by as he looked at her form again. The lack of any real clothing causing his desire to burn in him, he had to push it down, knowing she wasn't his for those moments anymore, she was Demetri's. His thoughts scattered as she rose, his robe fitting her but was still open to his viewing, he could only watch her as she took a step forward, he could see her hesitate for just a moment before he suddenly felt her trail a finger down his arm letting out an involuntary shiver. She closed the distance and brought her lips to his, he was unable to think of anything else then, feeling the desperation in her kiss he couldn't do anything but pull her into him then, her arms around his neck as his were around her middle. The passion burning in him now, he couldn't stop himself now, he heard the words in his head, the truth of his situation of how he should stop now. He was ready to pull away, ready to tell her that she should go back to Demetri, that moment never came as he found himself falling deeper into the kiss. His body had ached for this, had wanted this for so long that he felt his care blow away. His reflexes kicked in as he suddenly leaned forward, she leaned back and they fell, expecting to hit the ground they felt a soft landing. Both looking to see a rather familiar bed underneath them now, looking at it for a little bit, they looked back to each other with smiles on their face. "I remember this bed." She said in his ear, he let out a small laugh as his skin touched the sheets. "I forgot how much I liked your satin sheets." He heard her give a soft laughed before they kissed again, sliding up the bed before reaching the head board, Marcus on top of her as his hands slipped under the robe, slowly pulling it off her shoulders before he tossed it away. Their hands were eager, pulling clothes off from one other almost in synch, their bodies devoid of any clothing in only moments. Marcus hands traveling Ali's figured, feeling familiar scars, he could only smile at the memory, the one of her chest and the one on her back. Kissing them delicately she let out a soft moan, he hair having fallen in a halo around her, he kissed her neck as she held on to him, embracing her as he kissed her neck he felt her nails dig into his back. His body moving with the motion as he heard the moans leave her lips, he was losing himself then, letting it all fade away, letting her take control he accept his place under her as he held her hand, the runes coming to life again, the connection flooding them with the passion that made their time together all that more special. He never wanted it to end.
19. Marcus felt his body tensing up, his muscles coiling as he tried to think of a way to help her, the vampire's hands touching her that made his rage spike. He Was having trouble thinking of what he could do, this situation was not something he usually got pulled into. If he had been the target the runes would have saved him, would have repelled this creature, he was short on ideas for what to do when someone he cared about got pulled into a trap and he had to save them. He saw the terror on her face, he felt the horror as he could only imagine what she was thinking as he just stood there. "You seem so deep in thought, not sure what to do are you?" Marcus gripped one of his blades, drawing it silently as he stood their, the vampire using his other hands to hold Ali's face as the nail was digging into her soft skin. "You think you are faster then me human? She'll be dead before you even move." Marcus knew the truth of that, he was fast, but not nearly as fast as the vampire was as he held her. His hand roaming under her sports bra, the fury growing in his chest as he continued to nibble on her neck. He saw the swelling begin on Ali's ankle, the pain must have been unbearable for her as he gripped the single blade in his hand tightly, the leather creaking. The runes on his body glowing lightly as his rage grew, the sudden glowing giving him an idea. He looked the vampire dead in the eyes. "You should let her go, if you value whats left of your life." The vampire laughed out loud, his hand squeezing under her sports bra, Ali yelping as tears started to roll down her face. Those tears we're the last motivation he needed to risk it. "Don't move Ali." He simply said before he closed his eyes, the runes on his body starting to glow, the light growing as the vampire laughed at first, his laughter getting weaker as the light grew more and more intense. It grew brighter still as Marcus lifted his head, his eyes still closed as the light seemed to consume the room, the vampire screeching as he pulled his hand away form Ali's face to shield his eyes. Marcus acted then, the glowing runes pushing his body forward, his speed enhanced as he was now upon them, the light blinding both Ali and the vampire, Ali had tried to shut her eyes to it when she felt something pass by her, the distinct sound of something cutting through bone echoed in her mind, the hand under her shirt going slack as she felt it suddenly fall away before she crumpled the the ground, unable to support her weight. She heard a scream as she suddenly noticed the light had faded, opening her eyes she now saw Marcus standing over her, the the vampires hand lay beside her, the vampire suddenly striking out at Marcus, a fist smashing into his face. The force should have broken his neck, the rage of magic surging through his veins and muscle, giving him the added strength he needed, the blow only making his head turn before he looked back. Marcus was sure his cheek was broken, the pain throbbing now, he pushed it aside as he gathered the blood forming in his mouth now, spitting it out into the vampires face. "That all you got?" The vampire cradling the severed arm, reaching up and tasting Marcus blood, he tasted the charge to it, its intoxicating flavor making it spike into the vampires mind. "Your blood, its so..... energizing!" The vampire trembled lightly as he coiled his body, preparing to pounce as he lunged forward. Marcus reacting with his blade, ramming his blade forward he jammed into the vampires torso, seeing the one hand reaching for him before Marcus roared and wrestled with the vampire before smashing the vampire into the ground, the blade stabbing into the ground, pinning the vampire before Marcus placed his foot on the vampires chest. The hand still reaching out for him, clawing at his leg now, the runes coming to life to singe the nails and fingers of the beast. He felt the light trickle of blood flowing down his leg, the wounds closing quick enough to tempt the vampire. Marcus leaned forward then, his face inches away from the vampires. "You're mine now." Marcus drew back before he knelled beside the creature, drawing his fist back he smashed it into the creatures face. He heard a the snap of bone, and a gurgle he was sure was a laugh. His fist coming back again, smashing harder and hard every time as the sound of broken bones echoed now, blood splattered form the wounds, the vampire still gurgling his laughter, his face smashed when Marcus finally rose. His features undistinguished able as it moved it head slowly, trying to say something, Marcus was not interested in his words. He drew his other sword then, placing the tip next to his head, he looked down at the face as he held the sword steady. "I told you to let her go." The gurgle coming out again as he swiftly dragged the blade, the top half of the vampires head rolling away slowly. Marcus sheathed one sword, moving to his other blade he pressed hi foot to the vampires chest and withdrew his blade with a sharp tug. His mind came back then, the coldness seeping away as the rage slipped away, he felt the pain in his face, in his arms and in his leg, he felt the blood in his mouth and spit it out. He knew his teeth would be red for a while, he walked to Ali now, seeing her on the ground broke his heart, he felt eh sadness of not acting sooner, he undid his sash and pulled off his robe, covering her up as he brought her close, tears in her eyes as he tried to calm her. "Its over now Ali. He's dead." Marcus didn't regret what he did, he only regretted Ali getting caught in it, and witnessing the coldness of it. How the act was so easy for him, he didn't want to visit that dark place again.
20. The marks on her face had been the final straw for Marcus, seeing that vampire nibble on her and hold her like that had started a fire in him, he had been on the war path, then the unthinkable happened to him. He had felt his weight become unbalanced then, as if he was missing something and saw then what was missing, one of his blades gone and his mind had instantly fled into a panic then. He hadn't been separated from those blades, like this, the entire time he had carried them, the day he left the Northern Base of the HDF they had stayed with him and he had guarded them almost jealously. With one gone, he felt incomplete, he felt broken and unable to control the panic and rage. Ali had come across him at that point, he would of normally felt pathetic, on his hands and knees looking for something that should have been obvious, but right now he couldn't think past that point. He had sen Ali, feeling better about her being safe but he still couldn't stop searching, he needed to find it, the compulsion driving deep into his mind now. He had shouldered her aside as he kept looking, her words falling on deaf ears until she finally snatched his wrist, her words finally breaking through. "Love please. Tell me what's wrong." Thee words crashed into the wall of panic and fear in his mind, bringing him back from his lost world. He let his breathing even out as he spoke, his words coming off softly. "Blues' sword... it's gone." She comforted him there, bringing him back to his feet as he calmed down now, the panic still gnawing at him but it was controllable now. "We'll find it alright?" He nodded then, follwoing her into the room the vampire had taken her, his breathing trying to remain even as she spoke to him. "I think the head of this club, that vampire I was with is the master mind behind this club trap. I knocked him out up here but than when I heard the music stop I got worried." He nodded and slammed into her as she stopped suddenly, he was looking over her shoulder now, seeing the distinct runes on a blade Luwien was holding. His body tensing up as he felt the panic replaced with anger, his hands squeezing on Ali's hips as he tried to control himself. She spoke before he could even move, no words had come to mind except to walk forward and snatched the weapon from his hands, other thoughts crossed his mind. He missed the exchange between the two of them, only feeling the whisper of Ali's words in his mind, soothing him as loosened his grip. It's ok Marcus, he didn't know. The thoughts keeping him calm, until he watched in almost horror as Luwien tossed the blade to them. Marcus knew that the sword was protected, the blade's would be able to handle a fall without a problem, it was the lack of respect for it that almost made him rip past Ali and smash into Luwien. Ali had caught it then, handing it to Marcus as she approached him, he held the blade in his hand for a few moments, feeling whole again, Ali exchanged words with Luwien again, Marcus ignore the words. Ali returning to him now, seeing if he was ok. He was about to answer when he saw the marks on her face. His words falling away as he saw the damage. "How did this happen Ali?" It's nothing." She responded quick enough that Marcus almost let it go, until he suddenly saw what happened play through his mind, Ali being struck across the face by the vampire, the force causing her head to snap painfully to one side. His mind returning to normal, his body registering what he had planned to do, he pushed past her now, Luwien was an after thought now, the blade in his hand would find another body to bite into. He moved into the room now, hearing a groan coming from a figured on the ground and he moved slightly. He moved then, his steps taking him until he was standing over the vampire now, the fire in his eyes mixing with his hard expression would have made someone freeze up. He reached down with his free hand, picking up the vampire as he dragged him and slammed him into a bookcase in the office. The vampire grunting as lay amongst the derbies, Marcus not relenting as he dragged the vampire out by his leg, the creature more conscious now struggled to get out of his grasp. Marcus swinging him across the ground to smash into a corner of the office desk, the vampire roaring out in pain as he thrashed. He pressed his sword to the vampires throat now. "Stop squirming." He said plainly, the vampire feeling the blade on his throat his movement stopped, Marcus reaching down and grabbing him by the front of his shirt and lifting him off the ground then smashing him into a wall, he heard the creature cough weakly. Marcus had his sword to his face now, the tip digging into his cheek, the tip resting on the bone now. "Let's see how your face fairs against metal." Marcus slowly started to drag the blade across his face, the vampire screaming as the blade cut deep. He pulled it back as he placed it on his throat again. "Anything you want to say before it ends for you?" The vampire laughed as he tried to get out of Marcus grip, the nails digging into his skin, the pain hardly anything to him. He saw a smile on his face that Marcus would of liked to tear off. "I don't, but I think, they do." Marcus turned his head just enough to see Ali running at him now, Demetri and the others close behind her. He heard them now, all of them telling him to hold back, he heard the hesitation in Demetri's voice. He had seen the marks as well, his heart battling with his duty. Ali had come the closes then, laying a hand on his shoulder, he glanced at it before putting his eyes back on the vampire. "Marcus, he is our only lead right now. Please calm down." He felt the fire still burning, but the flames were burning out, he now felt that his breath had become heavy with his anger. He slowed it as he came back to them all, Pocket was beside him now as well, hoping she could help some how. He lowered the blade now, sliding it silently back into place as he lowered the vampire next, his hand still on his throat, squeezing on more time, his eye bulging briefly before letting go. The creature falling to his knees as he gripped his throat, Marcus stepping away as he knew he needed to be far enough from the vampire. He stopped when he stood beside Demetri, speaking to him quietly. "You've earned the honor to kill him, make sure it's slow." Demetri just looked at him for a few moments before continuing to his wife and their new captive. Marcus placing his back up against the wall, crossing his arms, letting his mind relax, he caught Luwien in his sight. The memory of his sword in his hand made him unhappy, he couldn't blame him though, he didn't know. Marcus did his best to stay under control then, letting the anger, frustration and rage seep out of his muscles, the tension loosened now, he felt better, and at the same time horrible. His face stayed straight, but his mind and heart coursed with the thoughts of how he had probably just presented himself to everyone, especially Ali. He deemed he would stay quiet for now, only speaking if someone talked to him.
21. Marcus' mind had been reeling since the moment they had been forced to leave the training room, everything that had told him to keep his distance had washed away with those few moments with Ali again. An opportunity gone when the alarms came on, feeling robbed of something important he was bitter until she had kissed him quickly, that alone had thrown him for a curve, he couldn't focus for a moment as he held on to the sensation as long as possible. What happened next had caused it all to sink deeper yet. "I still love you. I don't think I could ever stop loving you." She had taken off after that, leaving him standing there for a few moments, he didn't know what to do as his body didn't want to move. He took off after her then, the few moment head start all she needed to beat him to the war room, he observed Tank leaving the room, walking into the room he listened to the mission before they were all taken by Cloak. Pocket had walked with him, Leuwin talking to Mist who had decided to attend as well, Jeff silent as usual and Sasa keeping her vigilance. Marcus couldn't help but watch Ali now, seeing her body move, he noticed her feet bare and contemplated offering his sandals to her, when he had finally determined he would they had take a break, Pocket requesting it as Ali sat on the bench. The vibrations could be felt by all, Marcus had ignored it since he was never very much interested in that scene, clubs, loud music and crowds of people made him uncomfortable, especially after he had lived alone for so many years. He heard Ali speak then. "I think I may have just found a tip." Marcus looked down at her, his eyebrow raised, hoping in his mind that she was not talking about what he was thinking. "Dare I ask?" She then pointed across the street towards the small club where they could hear techno music filtering out the doors. He sighed in his mind, feeling the dread of having to go into that place, he could feel the night starting to draw out now. "Your not serious Ali." She looked up at him smirking. He felt what was coming to next, suddenly realizing the trap he just walked into with his words. "What's the matter Marcus, worried that a little dance club is going to blow the cover of you inability to dance?" He had frowned at her, she rose form the bench then and the group followed, he grinned behind her back as he shook his head. His expression going flat again, keeping his features straight as they prepared to enter the club, the rank smell of sweat catching them all, the wind carrying with it the sickly scent of vampires as well. He hardly heard the exchange between Ali and Jason as he started to move forward, the group catching up as they passed into the club, Ali was getting ahead of them Marcus doing his best to keep up along with Demetri. He realized how out of place he looked right now, he hadn't had time to change like Ali, he only had his robe on him, his tattooed features drew looks from other people. Unable to cover up he could only push forward, keeping track of Ali as best he could, when she had finally stopped he had halted a fair enough distance away, the other filtering into the club scene as best they could, looking for their targets. When he saw Ali pull off her jacket, seeing her creamy skin exposed as it was, the smile on her face as the words escaped her lips made his heart beat so fast he thought he would pass out. "Well, this is a dance club." It was all she said to them as she went out into the dance floor, he saw the way she moved, the way she swayed her hips. He was pulled in instantly, unable to focus on anything going on other then her, trying to understand what she was doing, why dance here, or all times. He had his arms crossed as he tried to keep his eyes vigil, being her silent protector, her reasons didn't become clear until he saw someone approach her, he saw how he went for her neck first, nibbling on it without a care, Marcus blood rose, his anger starting to creep in as he understood who this was, a vampire trying to move in Ali. He unfolded his arms, they exchanged words, Ali having pulled her hair aside, Marcus watched as he felt the rage coursing through him. She saw him then, locking eyes with him as she saw the heat in his stance. He felt a presence beside him, the sweet scent following, he unclenched one hand and gripped the handle of a blade, a voice in his ear now. "Couldn't help but notice you, stranger." He growled at the woman beside him, his eyes focused forward. "Care for a dance." He remained silent as he glanced to his side briefly, before looking forward. "No, get away from me." He felt a hand on his shoulder, he jerk it away from the soft hands. Turning his head to look at her, showing her the fire burning in his heart now. "I said get away from me." The vampiress took the hint, slinking away from him with a dark look on her face. Marcus brought his gaze back to Ali and the vampire, he had began to dance with her, having pulled her farther away in the span of a few seconds, Marcus began to push through the crowd now. Watching as the vampire whispered to her, pulling her aside he suddenly, out of Marcus sight he pushed harder now, the runes glowing ever so lightly as he used more strength to get through. He saw her briefly, being pulled deeper into the club he followed, he pace as fast as it could be in the mass of people. He came across and area separated by guards, the guards clearly part of the coven, he growled as he saw him pull her that way. Crossing the last stretch he approached the guards, his eyes cold now as they tried t bar his path. "Whoa there freak, no entry unless you're invited." The guard looking over Marcus tattooed body, seeing the swords at his side he let out a throaty laugh, his partner did as well. "Nice toothpicks, do you even know how to use those?" Marcus ignored their words as he started walking forward again, the guard barring his path with his full body. "Hey, **** face, I just told you no entry unless invited. And you look like you wouldn't get the time of day fro-" His words cut off as Marcus lashed out then, his swords sliding back into its sheath as he kicked the form, the head rolling off as the other guard attempted to subdue Marcus. His runes flared to laugh as he smashed them into the guards chest, reaching in an crushing his heart, letting the fire of the rune burn through until their was only ash left. He kept going then, his rage and Ali's words mixing together to give him the drive to tear through anyone who threatened his life, or hers.
22. Marcus felt his heart breaking for her, he had always seen her so strong, even with the connection they had with the runes he had seen her inner most thoughts, her doubts had always been pushed to the back when he dived that deep in. He couldn't understand why she would feel that way, he saw in her everything he had ever wanted from a woman, strength, independent but still warm, someone he was able to relax around. He didn't have to put a wall with her, he didn't have to keep up the pretense of the Mystic, the Warded man, or any of those other names he had been given, he was able to let everything out. Marcus stood before her as he pulled her hands away, cupping her face as he bent down to look her in the eyes. "Ali, everything you just mentioned about yourself, everything you see as a flaw, a defect, is what drew me to you. I'm sure the same can be said for Demetri." Ali shook her head as he could start to see tears welling up in her eyes. "I just want it all to be easier! I want things to be how they were, I wish my relationship with Demetri was like the one we had." Marcus smiled softly as one hand fell away to hold her hand, his other rubbing his thumb gently on her cheek. "All relationships can't be the same. I didn't act this way with Masan, I loved her dearly, she was everything to me as you know." Ali nodded, the tears slowly sliding down her face. Marcus continued. "But, I was still guarded from her. She couldn't know the things I know, she couldn't feel the things I felt. I never took her to the shadow realm. I never did a lot of things with her that I do with you now. It's always different." She still wept now, her face showing her distraught mind. He tried to calm her, hearing her speak again. "i know his family hates me, I just know it. Our attitudes are so different, they'll never accept me." "Everyone's family is different, you've seen them all except my mother. My family is insane! Most of my life was spent in training, which consisted of being teased, poked, prodded and joked at. I'm only good at the witty banter because of them, humor was what kept us all from falling into a depression. We all knew too much for a healthy human mind. Demetri's family had it differently, they had high society, he was taught to be more proper, he was a marine if I remember right." Ali nodded to him again, finding herself unable to speak, just listening to the soothing words from Marcus. "Everyone is different, we all have our flaws, our strengths. For me, I don't see flaws in you, everything you seem to hate and feel pulls you down, in my mind, makes you who you are, and seeing you do it everyday makes me love you that much more." He had stopped caring what slipped from his lips, when it came to her pain he knew he needed to tell her the truth of what was going on, to pull her from her sadness, her feeling of inadequacy, just as she had done for him. She had pulled those thoughts from his mind, she had brought him back from the brink as only she was able too. He had given up in his mind, feeling that his body was already dead, he simply had to finish the process, make it official. She stopped him, she saved him from an end that would of only hurt her more. He needed to do the same for her, he leaned in and pressed his lips to her forehead for a moment before pulling back, locking his gaze on hers. "You said to me before that I was an 'amazing' person. You only knew that because of this, because of our connection Alex. Three years ago we found that peace in each other, three years ago I fell in love with a woman who didn't mind throwing orders at me, who put other safety before her own, someone who would jump in front of a bullet for anyone on her team." She tried to look away, he forced her eyes back to his. "I still see that woman now, only she has gotten stronger, she has honed her mind and her body, a very fine body if I might say, and has never tried to do anything less then her best." He heard a soft laugh from her at his comment, her watery eyes had widened as he spoke, hearing everything he was saying was something new for her. He usually kept his words short, kept things tucked in, she had yo pry it from him before, had to reach deep into his mind and heart to get out what she needed. It seemed to just flow naturally from him now, as if it was all of his pent of words he hadn't used coming together to tell her everything finally. She spoke quietly now, her voice slightly hoarse. "The base still has no respect for me. I've heard the rumors." "No sure you'll have to worry about those anymore." Her face showed surprise before she asked. "What do you mean Marcus?" He gave a grin, the look in his eyes giving impact to his words. "I straightened a few attitudes, the rumors should die down for now. If they come back I'll see to it again." He felt her arms around him now, he held her close then, sitting on the bench next to her, he stayed silent then, letting her nuzzle into him softly as he felt the light sprinkle of her tears. He could only think one thing to himself as he held her, the words still in his head fro the first time he said them three years ago. I love you Ali[
23. The thoughts passing through his mind were ones he wanted to share with Ali, even if they were a bit on the wild side. Seeing how she had honed her body more, showing him every flexible move she could do made his blood boil, he was doing his est now to keep his mind as focused as possible and his body under control. He felt himself want to quiver, feeling his will getting weaker to not just tackle her now as make love to her in this very room. He took a deep breath, his eyes staying on her as he calmed himself, finding he wasn't doing a very good job, he watched as she did the splits on the ground, leaning forward and touching her head to her knee he let the shiver take his body before she looked back up at him. He saw then the sweet smile she reserved for him, his breath catching again as he rose form the bench and cleared his throat. "That is very impressive, you've definitely limbered up more since our time together, and we did some..... interesting things. Remember?" He said slyly to her, he saw her face blush as the memories surfaced. He walked to her and helped her up, feeling the sudden need show her a little more ten just his ability to change the runes. He rolled his shoulders as stretched for a bit. "Well, only seems fair I show you a little bit as well." He saw her cross her arms and watched him with a small smile on her face. He pointed a finger at her before he started. "No tickling me this time. I mean it!" She held up her hands in a disarming way as he heard a soft giggle from her. Rolling his shoulders one more time before he bent over, placing his hands on the mat, lifting his legs into the air he held it for a moment, Ali speaking up quickly. "I saw you doing this when I came in." He ignored her comment as he held himself for a few moments, lifting one arm from the ground and balancing himself on one hand. He held it for a few seconds as he looked at Ali, seeing her eyes wide before he bent his arm, lowering his body to the ground almost touching the floor with his chin and pushing himself back up. He did this a few times, a grin on his face as he saw Ali's expression before he had to look back down, stopping for a second he switched hands, placing his other hand on the ground before pulling his other up, doing another set of push ups before he set his feet back down gently as he held his hands out in ta da moment. She nodded her head in approval. "I didn't expect that from you." He gave her an exaggerated bow before walking back to her, grabbing the water as he took another drink. His thoughts traveling again as his eyes stayed on her and he recalled every move she had shown him, his mind telling him the logic of it all, just two very well acquainted friends that happened to know every inch of each others bodies. He heard a laugh in his head as he felt his heart speak, she still felt the same for him, she was showing off because she still wanted him as much he wanted her. He would never take her against her will, he understood a man probably couldn't with the way she had trained herself, the thought never crossed his mind, only thought was to be gentle with her and just accept her gentle touch when she gave it. He took another drink as he stretched his neck, feeling the distinct noises of the CO2 releasing from his bones. "I'm glad you found me in here Ali. I was worried about you." She heard the hidden meaning in his words, how he was talking about their time together in the shadow realm. She nodded at him as she tucked a loose strand behind her ear. "I was very surprised to see you in here, I'm glad I found you too." His heart felt like it was about to jump out of his chest. His breath speeding up, he held the bottle out to her, she reached for it and pulled it out of his hand, he grabbed her suddenly and spun her into his arms, her back pressed to him as he held her tight, feeling her squirm now as she tried to get loose. "You are so going to regret this Marcus!" He laughed as he started spinning her around again, her feet lifting off the ground as she squealed again as he kept the pace up. "I hate when you do this!" She yelled as he kept going, he slowed down then and let her go just long enough to get at her sensitive spots on her ribs. Feeling her twitch at his touch he held out his hands as she pointed a finger at him. "Don't you dare! I swear I'll get you back." A wicked smile on his face as he started to inch closer. "You got me, it's only fair I get you back Alex." He nipped at her sides again with her hands, a yelp coming out of her lips before he began his assault. She squirmed out of his grasp long enough to pour the entire bottle of water on his head, the water not stopping him as he renewed his attack, chasing her around as she used exercise equipment to block his path. Finally getting her cornered he pinned her against the corner and shook his water drenched head, spraying her, she tried to cover her self as he heard a half laugh half yell. He grinned at her as he saw she was just as wet as he was now, her hair sticking to her skin now as she looked up at him with an annoyed look, the smile on her face ruining any chance of her being serious. "You always seem to get me cornered or pin me in some way." "Well, I remember that you always enjoyed getting pinned." His eyes suddenly widened at his words, knowing that they both understood the hidden meaning in those words, he pulled away as he rubbed his face quickly. "I'm sorry Ali, I didn't mean for that to come out. Gods, only you can make me say whats on my mind." He shook his head at himself, feeling slightly embarrassed at himself, his heart beating fast as he felt the impact of those words now. He only hoped this wasn't about to turn into an awkward moment for them.
24. He held a small smile on his face now, feeling the sensation her touch inspired in him he knew he had finally made the right decision. For once he was sure he had done everything right now, he had no sense of anything being wrong, he enjoyed the touch around his waist now. He gentle kiss she had placed square on his back as invoked a shiver and he craved another, but he knew he could wait for another, as long as he was near her now, that's all that mattered, her and Neos. He placed his hand gently on hers wrapped around him, feeling her soft skin under his hand made him close his eyes for just a moment, a long enough moment for him to feel a spark, it vanished as quickly, but soon came again, lasting longer and longer every time it appeared. It finally became clear when he realized that it was from Ali, he felt her letting go of something and felt an energy passing through him. The flow was gentle and relaxing, he felt it find its way into his chest and wrapped itself gently around his heart, he understood what it was. His breathing slowly starting to grow more rapid as the feeling took a deeper hold on him, his smile growing softly he glanced over his shoulder before speaking. "I see that no matter how much things change, they stay the same." He felt he grip tighten again, the embrace intoxicating. He let out a soft groan, turning in her grasp he smiled down at her, a mischievous look on his face as she looked up at him. "Think it's time we finished what we started Alex, think you can beat me?" She let go and back up a few steps, he did the same, seeing an almost predator look on her face as she readied her body. "Lets see if you can actually fight mystic." He let out a small chuckle, she suddenly rushed him, her speed her strongest asset as she used it to her full advantage. Marcus doing his best to track her as she lashed out, her legs proving to be as flexible as he remembered he saw her make a hit for his face, His body moving out of the way, with almost no time to dodge her back swing he fell backwards, catching himself on his hands and landing on his feet before running at her. Letting his body fall into the routine he struck out with as his hands balled into fists, almost pretending that his swords were in his hands, letting the motion come naturally as he kept up the hit, she avoiding and tried to take out his legs again, he body reacting as he twisted in the air and landed on his feet. Her right foot was suddenly barreling towards his chest and he caught it before making contact, the force pushing him back as he held on to her foot. Landing on her hands she looked at him before he twisted her foot away and lunged forward, an open palm cam smashing down she had been only moments ago. She use her shoulder to barrel into him, being smaller then Demetri made him easier to push over, he took the opportunity to wrap her in his arms and use his legs to hold hers. She squirmed for a bit before getting loose, he rolled away as a knee came down, he was on his feet instantly and brought his foot up in a powerful kick, she used her hands to catch it but the momentum sending her up as she held on. Holding his leg in the air she balanced on it before flipping over him and wrapping an arm around his neck, pushing her hand into his spine before whispering into his ear. "Almost, but not quite." He grinned as he pulled her arm away from hiss throat, twisting it around and snatching the other one before he flipped her over, causing her to land on her back on the mat, pinning her down he smile a she breathed heavily. "You got a lot faster, but not fast enough." She was breathing hard too, her eyes glancing down, his followed to see her knee right in between his legs. He looked up as he saw that triumphant look on her face, he shook his head as he laughed, letting her go as he stood up, holding out his hand to her she gripped it, pulling her up innocent enough, until suddenly he leaned forward and pulled her over his shoulder, holding on to her he started to spin her around. He could hear her squealing at him. "Stop Marcus!" He heard between her laugh before finally slowing down and then setting her back down they both fell on their bottoms and laughed for a little bit. Sweat still coating both of their bodies as they tried to catch their breath. This made the memories come back in several flashes, all the times they would find themselves somewhere laughing because of a play fight they just had, most of the time it became more, but this wasn't one of those times. He looked at Ali, seeing her scantly clad figure, when she had been changing he had tried to avert his eyes, failing in that he tried not to look directly at her, he had blushed at seeing her like that, thankfully his skin was as dark as it was. He let his eyes wander before looking her in the eyes again. "I see why Demetri has problems fighting you. Much faster then you use to be." She smiled and get a small laugh. "You've toughened up some, didn't think you could keep up." "Hardly, lucky you didn't break me!" He said as he climbed to his feet, helping her back on to her feet he suddenly embraced her, giving her a light kiss on her head before letting go. She looked up at him. "What was that for?" "For everything Alex, wouldn't still be here without you." He saw he blush then, the words may have seemed extreme, but in all honestly they were true. The spell used on Sybille, had originally needed his own soul to complete the ritual, finding the power came from Masan and his love for Ali. His strength to keep on going the past three years had come from the memories of them together, and always the ever present thought of going back to her kept him going. He felt that now, more so then ever, he showed her that special smile before he walked over a took a seat on the bench, pulling out a bottled water from under and taking a deep drink. His eyes never leaving Ali.
25. Marcus had listened closely to her words, seeing the emotions flaring in her eyes as she spoke, he could see how intense her feelings had been fro him. How strong they still were and how he wanted to share those with her, he had gotten the meaning from his grandfather. Still shaking himself internally for the old mans attempts at rekindling their love, he had wanted to bring it back up as well. He had melted in her embrace, even if it was just her letting him rest his head on her lap, being this close to her made his blood pump faster, he couldn't help but feel his love for her start to burn through him again. When she talked about him leaving here all that time ago he had felt his heart sink, it had been a choice of keeping her safe, of keeping her sane. He could never fully explain that to her, explain that to anyone except maybe his mother now. He regretted that choice, what he had learned seemed like it wasn't anywhere worth what he had left behind. When she had pressed her lips to his, he got lost in the feeling, letting it course through him again. His mind going back to all those times they laid in bed together, times when they would be resting on the couch as he set aside a book just to spend those few moments with her as he wrapped his arms around her, she nuzzling up to him that made him quiver with delight. Her hands tracing his runes, that was the motion he missed the most, she always glided her hands across the shapes on his body, and now that he could change them it provided a new challenge for her. As her hands had traced his runes he had felt as if she was memorizing them all over again, her eyes hardly ever looking to where she was tracing, her body just followed the lines as if she had done this a million times. When she touched a ticklish spot she would smile and keep moving, he hadn't wanted it to stop, he had wanted to remain there with her. But, speak got him into trouble, it had taken from him what he had wanted most, the tears in her eyes as she walked away from him had torn into his soul, he hated the pain but he welcomed it over the void. He simply sat their in the shadow world, legs pulled up as he had his arms resting on his knees. His eyes staring at the dark floor, he felt alone again, and this time he blamed himself for putting himself in that position. The figure appearing again, a firm smack to the back of Marcus head followed, he looked up at the old man his face dark. "My boy, you are so smart. Yet you are incredibly stupid!" Marcus growled at him. "I don't need you to remind me grandfather. I understand clearly where I ruined it. I regret those words." Ammanas smacked him again, Marcus rising sharply, feeling slightly dizzy but hold himself up. "I was hoping to see something good and actually have front row seats! I mean, that move you did a few years back requires serious examination for future reproduction of that, if you can even bend that way anymore!" Marcus lashed out then, his hand passing through smoke before he whirled around and backed Shadowthrone square in the face, Marcus chest heaving as he stared down at the old man who just smiled with his hands up. "I swear to all the gods alive grandpa, if you only did this to watch us have sex in your bubble, I will send you so far into the abyss you won't know where your mouth begins and your ass ends!" Shadowthrone giggled. "That made no sense my boy." "It didn't need to you voyeuristic old perv! You think you can screw with my heart like that? I would die for that woman, I would walk the entire earth a thousand times to be with her." Shadowthrone nodded to him as he gripped his cane. "I am well aware Marcus, I may be dead, I may give you a hard time. But, all I did was try to help, I want you to be happy my boy, as does your father." On queue, Cotillion appeared, his face still straight as he stood with the other too. "Its true son, we're still trying to help. We know you need to do it alone, but we can give you the nudge in the right direction. All we want to do is give you the love you've earned." Marcus shook his head at them, his hands trembling as he felt his heart being pulled in multiple directions. "She chose Demetri, I'll always be second in her heart." "But two is bigger then one!" Shadowthrone blurted out, Marcus smiled briefly. He turned his head to look where Ali had vanished. "Ali, I take it back. I won't leave again, never again." The world around him vanishing as he suddenly found himself in Pockets room, Pocket nowhere to be found he left her quarters. Returned to the real world he noticed the base coming to life, he made his way to his own room, opening the door he found Neos sitting on the floor as he played with his animated fox. Marcus gave a small smile as he stepped in, Neos looking up, a great big smile on his face as he suddenly ran over and gave Marcus a great big hug, kissing him on his cheek Marcus scrunched his face as he started to tickle. The little boy laughing as he fell to the floor and Marcus kept tickling. "Daddy stop it!" He squealed before Marcus let up, Neos still laughing a little as Marcus was knelling next to him. "Neos, we're gonna start teaching you today. That sound like fun?" Neos nodded as Sly came up and nuzzled up to him, Marcus rubbing the toy fox. "What am I going to learn?" He asked innocently, Marcus still smiling gently at him. "Everything I can teach you Neos, you're gonna learn everything you grandpa and great grandpa taught me. Lets find Aunt Pocket ok?" Neos nodded furiously and they went hand in hand to find Pocket, finding her quick enough they began his training. The process was simple at first, Marcus showing him how to manipulate simple runes, runes that his family could use and Neos picked them up quickly, putting them together quicker then Marcus had been ready for, Pocket had remained through out the training, at one point Neos and Marcus traveling to the shadow realm together, Pocket having made her own path teaching two people at once made Marcus feel more useful. Taking his mind off of Ali for now, the time flew past them quick enough that it soon came time to bring Neos home, Pocket walking with them until the reached her quarters, she said her goodbye and Marcus and Neos continued on, reaching the Commandants quarters Marcus knocked, waiting patiently until Demetri answer the door, his eyes slightly wide at seeing Marcus. "Marcus, I didn't expect to see you here." Marcus gave a small smile and bowed his head. "I decided I would drop of Neos as well as pick him up for training. May I come in?" Demetri stepped aside and let him in, Neos rushing in as Sly followed. Marcus looked around more closely at the quarters, seeing how detailed it was and how luxurious it was. It made him somewhat uncomfortable. He looked to Demetri as he held his hands behind his back. "Is Ali here?" Demetri eyes him skeptically then nodded. "May I see her? I need to check her mind, make sure it wasn't infected." Demetri hesitantly lead him to their bedroom, she was sound asleep, he walked to her side, seeing the rune exposed he reached out and gently touched it. He let his power trickle out, only enough to get a simple message across to her in her dreams. I'm sorry Ali, I'll be here. He pulled away, nodding to Demetri. "She seems fine now, sleep will do her good. I will return for Neos tomorrow, keep him away from mirrors for now please." Demetri stared at him for a little bit before answering. "Alright, we'll do our best." Marcus bowed his head again. Walking out of their bedroom he walked out the room, letting his arms go slack as he let out a sigh. Rolling his shoulders he felt the need to work out, the training room his next destination.
