1. I don't hear it either. You get out there and look around on youtube and listen to different recordings and like Nathan said, most of them lack that 'm' sound that would be required at the end of the first word for it to be saying Islam. This whole thing sounds like someone let their imagination get the better of them.

  4. ?So why did they chose you to escort them to the capitol Commander? It?s not like you need an escort for a body or slaves after all.? Crystal looked up from her handheld computer, ?True. However, traitor or not, it?s still procedure for any member of the High Council to be accompanied to the capitol for burial.? ?If that wasn?t the case, would you still be coming along though?? That?s right, she thought. No one wants to see beyond the notion that they?re merely slaves, property of the Empire to be used at whim. Her lips curled in disgust as she stared at the Commander of the battleship, her eyes narrowing. ?Why would they bother to use a battleship for such a menial task then?? She waited for him to think about that. ?Alright, why?? He finally asked after thinking about it for a few minutes. ?Wouldn?t that make it obvious that they?re important? Otherwise, they would have been sent on one of the regular transports for such things.? Crystal turned her computer off. ?I choose to come along since people are still stuck in the mindset that no slave is valuable beyond a mere resource.? The Commander snorted. ?There is no value beyond that. They?re incapable of doing anything else.? He sneered, ?You?re starting to sound like one of those slave rights fanatics.? ?Perhaps,? Crystal conceded. ?But I?ve been saying for decades that we needed to change how we treat the lesser races. I think the current war proves my point.? ?Only that people are sentimental fools.? He countered. ?No, that people are realizing things should change, and that includes understanding that the mistaken perception that the other races aren?t intelligent is a problem.? She started drumming her right fingers on the sidearm of her chair in irritation. This pigheaded stubbornness among the military and people is rapidly becoming tiring. ?I could easily prove my point with the very slaves onboard that you consider so worthless, but if the High Council?s decision to grant them privileges no slave has ever had isn?t enough to convince you of that, then nothing will.? She stood up. ?The days of being considered superior are over. Even if we win this pointless war, sticking our heads back into the sand won?t change anything.? Crystal took a deep breath and let it out. ?We may not agree Commander, but at the very least you should be smart enough to actually read the files on the slaves you?ve been ordered to transport to the Capitol. I find your lack of knowledge on your sworn duty disturbing.? He sat up straight, schooling his face into an impassive mask at the rebuke. ?Of course Commander, I?ll rectify that situation immediately.? ?See that you do.? She said coldly before turning and exiting the bridge. At this rate, she?d end up spending the trip in her quarters. Snipping and arguing over policy and whether or not the slaves or current war was justified? was something she was in no mood to discuss. At all.

    Yu-Gi-Oh!

It definitely is a lot better LoLoLaLoco, if you get the chance, pick up the manga and read it. It's quite a bit different since the show was horribly edited like you've noticed. I actually disliked it a lot and quit after seeing a few episodes, but I adore the manga. :catgirl:
  7. ↑ Hey Chris, welcome to OB by the way. Anyway, time for the topic! And yes I'm skipping what's been said so far and going straight to what I think. Personally I do not think it's wrong. I think the act of sex, whether it's someone who's straight or gay, is being confused with intent. What makes sex wrong, regardless of the situation, is the reason why one is having it. In my mind, if it's someone who's being forced in someway or not old enough to consent, then it's wrong. If it's someone who's married or committed to each other then I see no problem with it. Limiting yourself to platonic love and saving sex only for having kids seems one sided to me. Humans engage in a lot of activities that aren't necessary for survival so why should sex somehow be any different? The key is not so much moderation but rather responsibility. And that's true of anything, eating, gaming, reading, etc. What level of sexual activity one has is best determined by that person and what's healthy (as in how often) will depend on the person. What a person's orientation is, skirts the issue and is being used as a means to discriminate against someone. Much like women couldn't vote and blacks were also treated unfairly. It's just a shame that quite a few people refuse to acknowledge the fact that they are being bigoted.

  9.
Aaryanna: The only reason I make this stance is because I can say with full confidence that there is no such thing as "extreme" Islam. "Extreme" is a word tossed on by the media to make headlines draw people to read; it does not in actuality exist, just as "pacifist" Islam does not exist. Granted, not everyone who is Muslim is a terrorist. But that does not mean that those who are not would not kill if given the chance.
Full confidence? o_O You and I are not going to agree on this. I can't and won't label people as potential killers if given the chance.
I think the difficulty in recognizing that type of pervasive animosity comes from living in a nation where there is simply no reason to fight each other. That region of the world has been in constant conflict since the Hebrews first conquered Caanan . . . by marching around a city for a week and blowing trumpets.
This I can agree with, however, a look at those of this faith who live in the US only proves that when given a chance to live in an area where there is no reason to fight... there is no fighting or killing. I would argue/point out that this proves that being in constant wars/conflicts brings out that extreme attitude/side of Islam you just claimed didn't exist.

A new version called Version Vibrant was launched on that date. At that time the new blogging platform Worlds was introduced and myOtaku was archived. 11.
I have several acquaintances who have had extensive contact with the Muslim community, both in the Middle East and throughout Europe. They have held commune with laypersons and religious leaders alike, and what they have seen is that no matter the station, the same beliefs are held. One of my colleagues was careful to mention the media's representation of the violent factions as "Muslim extremists", and noted that this is not the case, citing a conversation with high-school aged students about a Muslim in Britain who had converted to Christianity; the response echoed by each student was "he must die", without exception. One young man even went so far as to stab the table with his knife to show the strength of his feeling.
I may not keep up on this as well as I could but: BRITISH MUSLIMS ARE 'TOO EXTREME I still maintain that asserting all of them are like that is ignorant. It reminds me of how ill informed people are about the religion my mother belongs to. There are branches or sects that would be considered extreme and yet saying all "Mormon's" are like that would be wrong. So my stance is the same. It's a bit too easy and far too pat to think that everyone must think like that.
  12.
Also, I am not generalizing a group of individuals as much as I am just generalizing the ideal.
Well anyone who uses the ideal of kill them all is pretty stupid in my opinion anyway. 13.
You are exactly right, Vicky. I am implying that the West is better. My way is better and that's that. I don't believe that all of them hold the view of "you die, and I continue my reign." Seems pretty ignorant to assume they all think like that. 14. Just a little post to bring my character up to speed with where you left off in your post James. I figure you have a landmark in mind to cover that so I didn't want to speculate as to what was going on. Though Katelyn is definitely going, what the hell?
  15. Katelyn had left the first class deck hours ago. It wasn?t that the others made her uncomfortable, it was that after all that had happened; she was tired, more mentally than physically. Even though they had been stuck at the station for hours, the actual walking and crawling through the air system hadn?t been that hard. It was what they had found that still had her mind spinning in circles. She had stayed around for a while before finally taking her leave and finding a member of the ships staff to let her back into her room. It had taken very little time to take a shower and get cleaned up. She had been sitting out on the little balcony to her quarters for what seemed like hours, lost in thought, when it felt like a tremor ran through the balcony. Ehhh? She tiled her head to the side and placed her hands flat on the surface of the table. Nothing. Katelyn looked out at those going about their business below, no one seemed to be alarmed or bothered. I must have been imaging things. She put it out of mind, after all, the technology on the Von Braun was too advanced for a human to notice actual ship movements. The real question was what, if anything, should she do about what she had learned. She didn?t have a camera like the reporter, so telling anyone was out of the question. No one would believe her. What good would that do anyway? All she had, other than seeing the aliens, was what others had told her. Just because Zahir seemed to have read stuff, it didn?t mean what he had told them was even true. How did they know that the aliens they found weren?t a recent discovery? No matter how she looked at it, she wasn?t willing to assume more than what she knew. What about that terrorist group though? Katelyn wondered if they would have really done what they did if they didn?t have proof. Don?t be silly, proof or not, you don?t kill innocent people. With a snort of disgust she stood up and then clutched the railing tightly when the same tremor she had felt before returned. To her amazement the small vase of flowers on the small table actual moved a few inches on its own. That can?t be good. A moment later, it fell off the table completely, landing on its side. Katelyn ran into her room to check the computer terminal. She had taken no more than a few steps when the light changed to a red hue that was shortly followed by a message displaying on the screen. It was followed by a diagram of the ship itself, indicating that it was? You?ve got to be kidding me! How can that even be possible? For what seemed like an eternity Katelyn just stood there, staring at the screen. The sounds of people?s voices carrying into her room from the balcony door that was still open caused her to come back to herself with a start. I?d better hurry, if it?s a real emergency? She buried that thought and hurried to grab a few things before leaving her quarters.

You have to identify it as spam in order for it to be added to the list of known junk e-mail addresses. So yeah. It's just to bad that they haven't busted more of these idiots out there. If I understand this correctly, these guys have been engaging in reckless financial endeavors all in the name of profit and now the government is trying to fix their stupidity. Uh... if I do understand this correctly, then it's something we shouldn't be doing, paying for people making really stupid mistakes. So no thanks. I would only be in favor of a bail out if strict regulation was also introduced instead of a quick fix that wouldn't stop it from happening again. Of course this makes me worry about the economy, but at the same time, I don't want to see us simply holding off a greater disaster by not fixing what allowed it to happen in the first place.

  22. Valencia hung on as the small ship shuddered from taking another direct hit to the back. They?d managed to escape from the New Alliance in sector nine, but now they were having trouble slipping through the defenses to get back into Imperial territory. It didn?t help that she no longer had safe passage codes to get through. Nor did finding out that her ship specifically had been added to the list of hostile ships. Cassandra had learned that by hacking into one of the communication relays between sectors. I am so going to beat the crap out of William if I ever get the chance. She scowled as another hit from the defenses between sectors four and five nearly sent her flying out of her seat. ?Cassandra! Would you stop flying right into every damn shot?? Her hands flew over the controls as she boosted the power to the safety fields designed to keep her in her seat. ?I can?t hit the damn defense towers and hang on to my seat at the same time!? -It?s not that easy to dodge them!- Cassandra shot back. ?You?re the one that insisted on coming this way instead of skirting the edge of sectors two and three like I suggested we do.- Valencia paused to hang on to her seat again as another shot hit, a few lights flicked before one of the consoles in the bridge shorted out, sending a shower of sparks into the air. ?You?re the one who told me that the outer defenses had been increased for those sectors. If we had gone that way, we wouldn?t have been able to get back in at all!? She looked at the map up on the lower right hand corner of the main viewer. Just a few more and they?d be through. I shouldn?t have dropped out of hyperspace, if I hadn?t done that to let Cassandra hack into one of the relays, we wouldn?t be in this mess. Getting the information hadn?t been a problem; it was the attempt to return to hyperspace that had triggered the defense systems in that area. -You?d better hope that we aren?t on their list too. At this rate, we won?t be able to outrun anything.- Cassandra pointed out. ?We?re going to need an actual space dock for some of the repairs.- Valencia sighed, ?Let?s just get the hell out of here first? Well worry about that later.? She tuned Cassandra out and focused on taking out as many of the defense towers as possible, if they took too long, they?d run the risk of encountering New Alliance patrols. A short while later she sighed in relief. ?Finally!? She leaned back into her chair. ?Take us to the closest merchant station.? -Uh, that?s going to take a while.- ?Why?? A cold feeling crept over her. ?Don?t tell me?? She looked to the control panel next to her chair; the reports for the actual damage were still being assessed. Well beyond the initial reports she had gotten during the scuffle. Oh hell? ?Shit.? She pressed her hand to her forehead. ?How long.? -We?re down to approximately forty percent capacity.- Cassandra explained. ?That means that the closest merchant space station is just over two months away, unless?- ?Unless what?? Valencia looked up at the viewer. ?Great, just great.? -If we avoid Imperial resources and stay far enough away to avoid detection, that makes it three months to get to the merchant station on the other side of this sector.- ?And if we trust that we aren?t on the Empire?s list, getting to their space docks would only take a month.? Valencia bit her lower lip. ?Let?s take a moment to see what we can pick up first. Where?s the closest communications relay?? -There?s one just a day from here.- ?I assume you mean even with our reduced speed?? -Yes.- ?Set a course for that then, I want to know just what the hell is going first.?

  24.
Who are you to disagree with my statements about tattoos? Who gives you the authority to decide that I am wrong or right? Playing the uncertainty card doesn't accomplish anything in regards to someone's own position on the stance. It just mentions a universal aspect of the universe, and that is the relativity of opinion. And here, it is done so in a manner to imply that I am somehow unaware of my own senses and feelings on the issue. However I digress:
I think both of you are arguing in circles really. You've stated your opinion, she doesn't agree. So I say to you... so what? You just indicated that opinion is relative. So perhaps you should take that advice to heart and accept that it doesn't match with what others think?
I am a man with enough experience in a multi-cultural environment to acknowledge the amount of deviations from the standard, and characterize when these deviations are beyond the third deviation or are unwarranted by the particular culture that someone has. I am also aware of the aspects of contrast, color, and figures working in concert with one another to develop meaning. I can recognize with multiple senses when there is too much information to be conveyed in a manner that is can be understood by your average person. I can see that it is someone's behavior towards and with tattoos that is the real indicator of their mental state, and a large amount of their body covered in tattoos is one of the indicators of this behavior. I am aware that some of the cultures that hold to the ideal of excessive tattoos also hold on to ideals that are destructive, and the use of tattoos are emphasized as some outlet of this culture.
Actually tattoos are becoming socially acceptable and no longer the eyesore they were once considered. You're also swinging dangerously back into the grounds of presenting what you get from your own perceptions, those "multiple senses" you speak of. You need some hard facts to back up the sweeping generalizations your making.
Do I have an exact number for the percentage of the body that should be covered? No, I do not. I do not have an exact amount of spices that need to be on chicken in order to maintain a reasonable flavor that doesn't overwhelm the sense of taste. I do not have an exact pitch, volume, and rhythm in which all music should be in order to prevent destructive interference. I do not have a specific wavelength of light that needs to be emitted from as particular point to decide what color that point is. Trying to establish some exact number is not the goal, because it is not a numerical system.
Comparing spices in food to amount of tattoos fails as an analogy since what one considers to much varies quite a bit. You're again skirting around the issue with comparison after comparison that gets you no where. It's simple, you don't have an exact number because there isn't going to be a consensus on what's considered too much.
Finding specific studies is hard, due to the changing culture of tattoos in modern society. The after effects of criminal culture (http://www.shutitdown.net/gangtattoos/) are still present, but modern culture is adapting. Other than some obscure study listed in Wikipedia and a phantom report that I CANNOT find online from Christina Frederick Recascino, there is very little on the study of tattoos in modern culture.
See here's where your discussion falls in on itself. Like many things in our society, their significance has changed considerably. And even if people use them for certain associations like criminal gang markings, you're forgetting that it's no different than say a bandanna. The tattoo isn't the issue it's the intent of the actual person.
But, it is there. A fairly simple web page (http://whyfiles.org/206tattoo/3.html) lists the conclusion on the studies of tattoos in modern culture. In particular, it mentions that piercings and tattoos behave similarly to self-mutilation and cutting in their ability to release stress through pain. This is characterized by, as I had said prior, excessive piercing or tattoos.
Now your making connections that don't exist. You've made the erroneous jump from someone getting a tattoo or a piercing to someone who has legitimate psychological issues. The problem has absoutely nothing to do with standard body modifications. I read the article, that's talking more about people who had issues with being social in the first place. That's not the same as what you consider excessive body modifications, that's someone who can't stop cutting themselves and by your logic, we should be pointing fingers at any behavior that causes pain.
It is very simple to reason the presence of a problem, though. If you are given that there needs to be a motivating factor for drastic changes to appearance, then this motivating factor is either related to the process of the act (mutilation), or the idea behind going to the extreme.
Motivating factor? We all have them, it's called wearing clothing, living in houses, training our bodies to behave in ways that are not considered natural. We mutilate our natural appearance on a daily basis. The only real difference here is once someone gets a tattoo or piercing, they don't have to keep doing it every day. =P
The idea behind can be MANY causes, such as association with a particular social group, rebellion against a force that discourages tattoos (I have seen quite a few people who tattoo only because the Church of LDS says they shouldn't), self esteem, an artistic statement, or probably several other reasons. Due to the statistic abnormality in which someone gets a copious amount of tattoos or some very large tattoos, a problem association is likely.
Again, you're going on old concepts and personal opinion instead of seeing how society has changed. And where is this statics abnormality you speak of? I think you need more hard facts and less fluff.
What the people who don't have a severe problem should be is thankful that others show concern over the issue, and should acknowledge that the distaste that others have is rooted deeply in a history of accurately associated issues. It is through this discernment of what is normal that someone is able to diagnose or see symptoms of a problem.
By the way, I'm one of those people who by your definition doesn't have a severe problem since I have no interest in body modifications. And my concern is heading in your direction since so far, you've backed very little of your statements with real facts. You're putting opinions out there as if everyone who doesn't get tattoos or lots of piercings think the same thing. Uh... no, we don't. :/ And I can guarantee you that our definition of what's considered normal isn't the same either.
  25. What Darren/Rach said is true. The Mormon church teaches you to not get piercings or tattoos or any form of body modifications. I gave up on that when I was thirteen though. Religion that is. However, when it comes to modification... I'm not interested. Other than the single piercing I got done for my ears. I don't really care if others do it though.
