I just want to see where everyone stands, what they like/dislike about the candidates/potential candidates. And who they've be voting for at this point.
I don't stand anywhere or rather I can't vote. If I could I would be choosing to vote for Obama. My understanding is limited for the simple reason that other than to casually follow things I don't purse what's going on in depth, once I can vote I'll probably start paying more attention, however right now I really don't care. The only thing I do care about is that from what little I?ve read up on, I don?t care for the Republican Party at all. Everything I read points to a group that favors businesses and the wealthy instead everyone else. Anyway, next time I?ll get to vote so I?ll be sure to actually pay better attention, but for now? politics just annoy me so I tend to skim and move onto something else. XP

I was using your post as an example rather than trying to single you out. I was trying to point out that I wanted more information. I'm really sorry if I sounded like I was singling you out.
No need for that. I know you were just requesting more information... I was just explaining that I made it all up and how I came to my conclusions using people's sign ups. :catgirl:

Ok, this is going to sound kind of nitpicky but can we have a better explanation of the organization NARSIA? After reading Aaryanna's post and seeing how her character wanted to go to the NARSIA academy, I couldn't help but wonder exactly what kind of Agency it was. I thought it was modelled after the CIA, NSA, and Secret Service, i.e there isn't really an academy. Also seeing as it has a Director rather than a CEO, I also assumed that it was part of the government. The only reason I brought it up is once again Aaryanna mentioned an academy and in my post my character just took a job there. Sorry again if this is nitpicking.
Huh? I was going on the information in the example sign up, the one about Samantha A Wells who literally outranks the Chief of security on the Von Braun. So I figured something with that kind of authority was more than just some simple organization. Also, my character is still a teenager, so I figured that there is some sort of training academy much like there is for other organizations. It could even be one huge academy and she's simply specializing in preparing to gain entry into NARSIA instead of other areas of government or military. *shrug* Your character is one who's an adult and has spent decades serving in something that is probably very similar so you'd probably just get a quick course instead of needing full training like some wide eyed kid who knows nothing.
It should be pointed out, though, that NARSIA is a less-than-benevolent organization much of the time. I'm sure that many of its most junior recruits are wide-eyed and idealistic, but yeah... it doesn't have the best reputation. Many citizens are somewhat skeptical of it.
Now he tells me.

Okay, how I ended up reading my next so-called book I'll never know. XP Somehow I ended up in some weird conversation with my friends about what we read and comparing it to what the other one is reading to see who was being the geekiest. It's so NOT my fault that I got curious about that book Crystia mentioned People of the Lie by M. Scott Peck. So naturally I got tagged as reading the weirdest book. How that morphed into I read the Dictionary for fun is something that made no sense whatsoever... However, now I am. o_O Webster's new world college dictionary, third edition to be exact, I'm on the Historical Overview section at the moment. Plus I don't know how much I'll actually read in the end. Though I've just realized that the fourth edition is out so I probably need to get the current one. Anyway... I suppose it will be interesting to see how far I get with this before I quit, I do at least plan on getting through part of the first letter of the alphabet, if only to see how many words I actually recognize. :p

If there are any issues with my sign-up let me know. I had hoped to catch James or Indi online before I started writing my sign-up, but once I got started I kind of got carried away. For the record: Edward Kundi, Terra Prime and Arthur don't know anything specific about the cause of the Great Disaster, but merely see some sort of connection between it and space travel. They mean well in their mission to prevent another Great Disaster from happening, but will not let the loss of a few lives get in the way. -Shy
I certainly hope there isn't any issues, I did tie the death of my character's parents into your character's horrible fanatical father after all! :p It was just too good of an opportunity to pass up. One of these days Katelyn is going to haul his butt to jail! Ha!

Passenger Name: Katelyn Brennan Age: 18 Identification: Occupation & Background: Katelyn was born and raised in the suburbs of Washington Prime. Though originally raised by her parents, she became a ward of the system shortly after she turned sixteen. This happened because both of her parents were killed when the production plant they worked at, on the farthest outskirts of the area, was destroyed by the terrorist group known as Terra Prime. Since then she has been studying to prepare for entry into the academy for NARSIA. Katelyn intends to help hunt down all of the individuals responsible for not only the death of her parents, but for all citizens who have been harmed by the fanatical group that hails under the name Terra Prime. When she turned seventeen, a year before the Von Braun was projected to launch into space, a writing contest was held for students of any school who wished to take part in the first voyage in space. Since her parents before the tragic incident that claimed their lives had been saving in the hopes of being able to afford to purchase tickets, she entered the contest. Katelyn was among those chosen out of the millions of entries and now, barely a week after her eighteenth birthday she is preparing to board the Von Braun.

What do you do with your leisure time?
Aaryanna replied to Rachmaninoff's topic in General Discussion
I read. Seriously, I always spend so much time each day reading. o_O My day just isn't right if I don't. The best part is that I never run out of things to read, well... sometimes. But only until I can get to the library to check out more stuff to read again. Heh. Sometimes I play video games, but not very often. Oh and I suppose I could say I take my dog on walks and stuff, but I do that all time anyway, even more so now that it's finally warm again. ^_^ -

This basically means I am Moriarty incarnate. Insult me at your peril. Though I suppose the fact that I don't feel like insulting you makes it even more funny. Anyway, depending on one's definition of a nerd I certainly fit! :catgirl: Do I care if someone thinks I'm a nerd... not really.

Crystal was far from happy with Jared being gone, the last person she ever wanted to be in charge of the Creator was Vallon Drace, but the decision was out of her hands. Her only comfort was the knowledge that she could go over his head if need be, but it didn?t make having to deal with the fool any easier. I hope Jared is still alive. It mattered not that he annoyed her at times, or that she disapproved of his methods. What did matter is that he had been easy to work with in the sense that he had always been open to harsh criticism, never taking it personal. Jared had been too professional for that. Now she was stuck working with an egotistical jackass whose only goal was to sway the favor of the crew to put himself in a better position of power. Crystal only hoped that Sandra was smart enough to see it. Though she had no doubt that Stevens did, that one was far cleverer than he let on. A chime from her computer terminal brought her back to what she was doing in her office in the medical bay. Curious she opened up the message only to be surprised by an order from Commander Drace to come to the main computer lab of the Creator. What in the world? Crystal couldn?t think of a single reason for him to have requested her presence, he despised her for being a doctor and even ignored official reports from her. This included the one reminding him that he was long overdue for the physical that all members of the military were required to do. With a sigh she got up and made to leave the medical bay and head for the computer lab. I?d better see what that fool wants. It didn?t take her long to get there, not with the various lifts running through the ship, she was just entering the main computer lab with the entire ship shuddered and then rocked violently, nearly tossing her to the deck. In the same moment the lights failed before switching to that of emergency power only. One of the security standing watch at the doors to the lab caught her by the arm and helped her to regain her balance. What the hell just happened? Instead of bothering the crew who were frantically trying to figure out what had gone wrong, Crystal instead pulled out her hand held computer and accessed the updates. Her eyes went wide as she read the simple note that something had dragged the fleet out of hyperspace. How in the world did that happen? There was nothing else and she imagined that until they figured out the cause there wouldn?t be. Crystal was putting her hand held computer back into its little pouch at her side with a commotion caught her attention. She looked up just as Commander Drace backhanded Jason, sending him tumbling over the computer terminal. What is that fool doing? She thought as she watched him step forward and grab Celestia by the neck before demanding that she explain what she had done to the ship. ?Sir.? His assistant Pheonia Roth started to say but an abrupt order from him to shut up and she fell silent. Why in the world does he think she?s responsible? Even Crystal knew that their access was strictly limited. Her eyes narrowed when she realized that he was grasping Celestia so tightly that she could barely breathe. That idiot! Without hesitation she took two steps over to one of the security personnel and took his disruptor from its holster, pausing only long enough to order both of them to stand down and make sure it was set to stun. Then she turned and took a few steps in Commander Drace?s direction, stopping when she was about ten feet away. ?Release her.? She ordered firmly. Drace glance at her and sneered, ?This does not concern you Doctor.? Crystal could see the desperate look in Celestia?s eyes as she tried to pry his fingers from her throat. They were practically begging her to do something and considering the orders for those two from the High Council, she was going to. She looked back at Drace and raised the disruptor, aiming it directly at him. ?Either you release her or I?ll shoot.? She ignored the shocked stares from the other crewmembers and Drace?s look of contempt as he tightened his grip on Celestia a bit. ?You are overstepping your authority Doctor, stand down.? ?And you are disobeying a direct order from the High Council.? Crystal countered. ?Release her at once.? The two stared at each other, Crystal resolute, Drace weighing her expression as if to gauge whether or not she really would fire. Movement from Celestia as her body went limp motivated Crystal to fire immediately. The first blast caught the Commander by surprise and he staggered back a bit after releasing Celestia. Crystal ignored her momentarily as she collapsed to the deck and instead fired again, this time the Commander went down, knocked out by the second stun blast. With a sigh she moved to quickly check first Celestia and then Jason. Both were unconscious but she figured it would be best to have them checked just to be safe. ?Take both of them to sickbay immediately.? She ordered the security personnel who had been uncertain as to what to do. When they hesitated she stood up and snapped at them. ?You heard me, at once!? Both of them moved to deal with the pair, calling for additional help to transport the pair to sickbay. Crystal set the disruptor down on the closest computer terminal and opened up her hand held computer, contacting the head of security. She didn?t give the man time to tell her he was busy, she instead issued him an order immediately. ?I need a group to come and place Commander Drace under arrest.? ?Excuse me?? The man gave her an odd look. ?You heard me; the Commander is guilty of disobeying a direct order from the High Council. You are to place him in a cell until Commodore Luciana can review the charges and decide his fate.? ?I see, understood Commander Matheson. I?ll send a squad to pick up the Commander immediately.? Crystal ended the transmission and then waited until the squad arrived to pick up Commander Drace. Then she handed the disruptor over to Pheonia Roth who was still just standing there. ?Next time, shoot the fool yourself.? She advised the woman. ?It doesn?t matter if he?s your superior officer or not, no one is above obeying the High Council?s orders.? Then she turned and left the computer lab to head for sickbay. Sorting out what had caused the mess was something that was not her duty anymore. Crystal didn't care if she did get in trouble later on; it had been oddly satisfying to shoot that arrogant bastard.

Well I can't draw to save my life, but I do enjoy writing. I don't do it as often as I would like since I end up reading instead. I love to read. But I'm always getting ideas for stories, I just never do anything with them. I don't really consider myself an author though, I don't really write often enough and thinking someone is an author... that's something I tend to reserve for someone who is actually published in some way. If someone says they are an author and yet has nothing I can go physically check out at say the library or book store? Then I think of it as a hobby instead of them actually being an author. Because in the end, when I ask about an author, I'm asking about something I can actually go and pick up to read. Nothing wrong with doing it as a hobby though. :p

Anyway, in the future when you are posting, be sure to provide information on what series your talking about the next time you post.
In the future Blitz_Kid, remember that it's easy to go to a place like Anime News Network to find out just what a show is about. I'm not sure I follow your reasoning that people will think a thread is a scam if they don't. That makes no sense whatsoever. So to give a little of what this show is about, via the summary at Anime News Network:
Kyoko has devoted her life to Shotaro. When Shotaro came to Tokyo to debut as a singer, she followed him and worked to provide for him. But one day, Kyoko overhears Shota telling his manager that Kyoko means nothing to him. She's just convenient, a housekeeper. This makes Kyoko furious, and she vows revenge on Shotaro. But Shotaro just laughs at her, saying she won't be able to touch him because he's now a popular singer and she's a nobody. So Kyoko decides to get into showbiz and become even more popular than Shotaro to humiliate him. Unfortunately, Shotaro has destroyed Kyoko's ability to love, and she discovers that it is a prerequisite for her to debut from her chosen company, LME. The president of LME puts her into a new section made for those who caught his eye but have something missing. It's name... Section Love Me.
It sounds like an interesting series though I've never read any of it. Also, since it's a manga, I'll be shifting this over to the manga section when I'm done here. The idea sounds interesting, however, I get the feeling that your idea of short and mine are completely different. How about giving us more details as to just what the contest would actually entail. A good example of what I'm talking about can be found here: Poetry Contest As you can see that explains things so people have an idea of what they are signing up for. To give you an example, perhaps your idea of a short story is one that is between 400-500 words. Also, what kind of stories are allowed? Romance, comedy, action, etc. So clarification please?
You didn't post that last chapter! So... Post it!
Just a quick reminder though, don't forget that cohesive voting is required this time around! Raiha: Your poem comes across as being meant to be funny in an almost melodramatic manner that pokes fun at both praise and at competition in the first place. It is fun, but I don't really care for that style of writing, even when it's as well written as yours is. Allamorph: The variation you did is what makes your poem stand out, I can't help but giggle at what it really stands for. However! It's also a parody on stuff that only fellow OtakuBoards members who have actually read works by Raiha would understand. Funny, but has the potential to confuse people who don't know her. But it's still funny on it's own, it's just that the true fun comes from really knowing what it refers to. Anyway, for making me laugh, Allamorph get s my vote.

Writing Aaryanna_Mom vs. Treble [Poetry Contest]
Aaryanna replied to Sabrina's topic in Creative Works
Mom: I'm sure you can see why I can just imagine you looking at a kid who was taught a valuable lesson and didn't get it. It makes me feel like I'd better get it right or else! lol Treble: Yours is fun how it plays into how great mothers are to begin with. However at the same time it can apply to any mother, and though that's a great sentiment, it doesn't quite connect to just one mom. If that makes sense. XP And now to only choose one... I'll cast my vote for Treble. -

I've been a member of a few other forums for a while, and enjoy RPing and writing my own stories, so I'm quite drawn to the Theater as well (although, being English, I will have to point out that it's spelt "Theatre" ;)).
Ha! Victoria Ann had always known that adults did silly things, but seriously... fighting and squabbling like a bunch of spoiled children? Somehow as things settled down and she learned more about what had caused the fight in the first place, it just made her mad. What was the point in teaching and telling her the importance of fairness if you turned around and weren't fair to others? I swear, adults come up with the stupidest reasons for justifying their behavior! She knew that the others didn't take her seriously at all, well other than perhaps Auntie Catherine, but still... It didn't stop her from pestering everyone with questions non-stop once they had returned to Rosengard in the days following the air battle over High Czenoble. Even the normally patient Fonty, who was working with some documents at his desk in the study, finally looked up from what he was doing and fixed her with a stare. "Victoria Ann! Go and bother someone else please! I can't get anything done with you pestering me nonstop like this." "Fine!" Victoria Ann made a face, sticking her tongue out at him before she turned and flounced out of the room in a huff. What am I suppose to do? There's no school yet and when I try to help with the cleaning or anything else for that matter, I'm told to go and bug someone else! With a sigh she made her way to Auntie Catherine's room and halted at the sight of her waiting patiently near the main doors to Rosengard. Puzzled she moved to join her, wondering what she was doing. "You look like you're waiting for someone Auntie Catherine." Catherine just smiled, reaching out and giving her a quick hug when she got close enough. "That's because I am waiting for someone." "Are you going somewhere?" Victoria Ann looked up, puzzled as to where her aunt could possibly be going. School would not be starting until after more clean up and repairs to the city were made. With all the debris and injured, it was considered too dangerous for the children to be out walking on the streets just yet. Plus, most of the train system, at least the part that was still operational, had been taken over by the remains of the Royal Police Guard and the Military to help with the clean up and repairs. So most children had no means of even getting to Chaos. "I'm not going somewhere, someone is coming here." Catherine explained. "Now that things have calmed down a little your mother and the children are returning to Rosengard." Victoria Ann groaned. "That's the last thing we need. All mother will do is get melodramatic and fuss like a ninny over all that's happened." She turned to leave and halted when Catherine grasped her left shoulder. "That's not very nice Victoria Ann." Victoria Ann rolled her eyes. "It's still the truth. If I did things like her, no one would have even realized you were missing." Catherine shook her head. "It's still better to be polite young lady." "Maybe later... I'll think about it." Victoria Ann smirked a bit and then pulled free and took off for the attic; heading for the huge window that faced High Czenoble. She couldn't really see the details as well as she would have liked but at least it gave her some idea of what was going on. "Where's Victoria Ann?" Beatriste's voice filtered up from the main room below to where she was standing; Victoria Ann just scoffed and turned back to looking out at the city. A while later the sounds of someone entering the attic could be heard and she turned with a frown on her face, expecting it to be her mother. Not that she didn't care for her, but rather her mother's way of turning things into a crisis when they weren't bugged her a lot a times. It wasn't Beatriste who had come up but rather Harrison, still dressed in a military uniform and looking far to serious, even for him. "I figured you'd be up here brat." "Harrison!" With a shriek she threw herself at him, hugging him tightly. "Whoa brat! Not so hard." Confused Victoria Ann pulled back and then let go upon seeing his pained expression. "Are you okay? You didn't get hurt did you?" "Just some bruises brat." He moved past her to look out the window at the city, sighing softly as he did so. Why is he...? Victoria Ann moved to join him, wondering why he was so reserved and then it hit her. "You're only back for Uncle Daedalus' funeral, aren't you?" Harrison didn't answer and Victoria Ann said nothing, moving to stand next to him and look out at the city as well. It was just like dealing with the others in the family, he was different somehow. "You'll be going back to the military." It was a statement of fact and not really a question, but Harrison answered it just the same. "Probably." Victoria Ann was the one to sigh this time. "I swear, if becoming moody like all of you have is what it means to grow up, I'd rather not thank you very much!" This time she got a tiny laugh out of Harrison, but the mood quickly settled back to one of being quiet. I'll be glad for school to start again, she thought as she watched what she could see of the repairs being done in the city. Though she had to wonder just how many faces would also be missing there too. All the more reason to grow and make sure the stupid adults never fight like that again! Decided she turned her attention back to what was going on in the city.
