Besides stalking Des? Lets see... Like other mods I always check my area and the staff one first, and any pm's I may have. Once I'm done with that I look at my subscribed threads to see if there are any new posts. From there I just go to different areas of the boards based on whether or not there are any new posts to check out. Sometimes it's the Lounge I check first, sometimes it's the Arcade... it just depends on activity. :catgirl:

I just about always go to bed between 9-10pm. It's habit. I'm use to getting up early for school so by the time it hits 9pm... I start getting tired. It's the same even on the weekends... XP I'm just too use to going to bed early. Sometimes I'm up until midnight, but not very often.

Anime My Mama Always Told Me Stupid is as Stupid Does...
Aaryanna replied to The Spectacular Professor's topic in Otaku Central

You're right, and once again, I am VERY sorry:animeswea. Although I probably missed something in the article, because I'm confused. The guy that wrote that wrote the article wrote that 700(or over, I forgot.) people were sent to the hospital, but in the wikipedia thing that Aceburner brought up, it said 600-something. Does the article author not have his facts straight again, or am I just missing something that'll probably turn out to be obvious?
Whether or not the numbers are correct is irrelevant. What is, as others have pointed out is that he was attributing watching anime to causing a known medical condition; Photosensitive epilepsy. The condition exists whether anime is around or not. Television has traditionally been the most common source of seizures in PSE. For patients with PSE, it is especially hazardous to view television in a dark room, at close range, or when the television is out of adjustment and is showing a rapidly flickering image (as when the horizontal hold is incorrectly adjusted). Modern digital television sets that cannot be maladjusted in this way and refresh the image on the screen at very high speed present less of a risk than older television sets. The author mistakenly blamed Pokemon for this when any media that shows flickering lights is known to potentially trigger a seizure if certain conditions are met. Video games, even fluorescent lighting that is not working properly can trigger it. This is something that even today presents a problem and it's hardly related to anime, for example: A segment of animated footage of the 2012 London Olympics (released at the same time as its controversial logo) was criticized as viewing it had triggered seizures in people with photosensitive epilepsy. If we were to follow the illogical fallacy of the author's claims then we would have to also say that the Olympics are destroying our society. lol I understand that the part of the footage that was an issue was yanked from their website, but still, the point is that the numbers don't matter, what does is that he was blaming anime, specifically Pokemon for something that has nothing to do with anime. Any form of lighting that meets the prerequisite for triggering a seizure for someone who has this medical condition is the problem, not anime in general. -
Valencia at first had no idea what Kiva Salqarian was talking about. It took her little time to realize what had to have happened though. Oh my hell, that stupid little fool! What was she thinking? It couldn?t possibly be her passenger, for the simple reason she had no such equipment with her and there was no access in her quarters. Plus, Cassandra would have cut off any attempts made by passengers if such a thing had happened. No, the only one capable of such a feat was Cassandra, but the question was, why? She hadn?t given her any orders to attempt to hack the Catalyst. She tried to explain it to Kiva but she didn?t believe her and really, why should she? As far as Valencia knew, Cassandra was one of a kind. In all her time as a pirate, she had never come across anything to indicate there were other computer systems like her. Careful probing on her part had turned up nothing for over seventy years. As she stared back at Kiva after being ordered to start talking, she wondered how the hell she was going to talk her way out of this one. Considering what the Catalyst was, the newest prototype for the Messenger Ships; that was something that even Stevens would have not overlooked. Great, this is just great. ?I need to do something first,? Valencia explained. ?I need to tell Cassandra to stand down.? -Why should I?- Cassandra?s voice came over the closest speaker before Kiva could speak. ?If I follow that order, what?s to stop her from just killing you and destroying the ship anyway?- ?Shut up, you stupid idiotic little fool!? Valencia snapped, mindful of the fact that Kiva still had her weapon trained on her as she kept herself as still as possible. ?We wouldn?t be in this mess if you hadn?t attempted to hack the Catalyst.? -Fine!- Cassandra snapped in response. ?I?ll stand down.- Valencia took a deep breath and then let it out. ?You do that, and so help me, if you don?t follow my orders and cooperate with Ms. Salqarian, I?ll jettison your core into space myself.? -That was unnecessary.- Cassandra complained. ?Just as hacking into the Catalyst was you fool.? Valencia winced at Kiva?s look, she had seen it far too often, if she didn?t explain and soon, her promise that things would end badly would be followed up on. ?Now, you wanted an explanation.? ?Correct.? ?My passenger is Kerstin Anderson,? it seemed to Valencia that Kiva recognized the name, but the tiny hint was gone so quickly from her expression that she wasn?t sure. ?She requested passage from sector one to sector nine. Ms. Anderson believes that her brother Darren Anderson is being held by the New Alliance and she wishes to petition the Representatives in order to find out if this is true.? ?Go on.? ?There?s nothing else to tell, once I was done here I was going to head to sector nine to drop her off. Now as for Cassandra, I can?t tell you what she is because I don?t know.? Kiva?s expression hardened. ?That?s not good enough.? Valencia frowned as she wondered how to explain it. ?This ship, the Stykera was given to me almost a hundred years ago, Cassandra was already installed. By the time I realized she was more than a simple computer system, it was too late to back track the person I got the ship from.? She paused briefly wondering how much she should tell her, opting for being up front as she got the feeling that withholding information would not be tolerated. ?I?ve since then hunted for information to see if she was some sort of prototype computer system since she behaves more like she?s sentient or at the very least has the memories from perhaps her creator. But in over seventy years I?ve found nothing and Cassandra can?t disable her own security to let me or anyone into her core systems.? ?Anything can be hacked.? Kiva pointed out. ?Normally I?d agree with you, but I?ve tried, I?ve gotten experts to look at the system and attempt to get in, no one has succeeded.? She sighed, ?It?s the truth, I don?t know what she is and I can?t get inside to find out. I don?t even know why she chooses to work with me and follow my orders. Just as I don?t know why she decides to do things on her own, this isn?t the first time she?s done something like this.? ?You?re going to have to do better than that.? Kiva was still unconvinced. Cassandra snorted. ?What more do you want Ms. Salqarian? Can you physically open up your head to let someone look at your brain? Even if Valencia has ordered me to cooperate with you, I can?t do it, I can?t just drop my security to let you in, believe me, I?ve tried.- We?re at a stalemate, Valencia thought. And trying to hack in to the Catalyst is something Kiva Salqarian won?t be able to overlook. I have no choice, I?ll have to? She shook her head in disgust. ?I surrender.? ?Excuse me?? ?I can?t prove my claims and I?m unwilling to risk the destruction of the Stykera, therefore, I surrender.? Valencia explained. ?To prove I am serious I?ll give you my access codes.? She rattled off her passwords that would give Kiva access to everything but Cassandra?s internal system; she had no code for that. ?Do what you must; all I request is that my ship is unharmed.? ------------------------------ OOC: Your turn GuyYouMetOnline

Manga The Battle Between Manga and Anime (Manga Side)
Aaryanna replied to Nomurah!'s topic in Otaku Central
I just answered this in the other thread, but there is one exception where I would like manga better. And that is when the anime is essentially edited to death, ruining the story. Good example? Yu-Gi-Oh. In the end though, I still rarely read manga at all. I've probably read less than ten series altogether since it's not what I prefer to read. -
Anime The Battle Between Manga and Anime (Anime Side)
Aaryanna replied to Nomurah!'s topic in Otaku Central

This will end the battle between Manga, and Anime. Most of us like both. But we can't lie. We prefer one over the other. But which is it? In this epic battle, I think we will finally get the answer. On the anime thread for the battle, you will post what you like about Anime, that manga doesn't have.
What battle? If we are getting into what one prefers, to be frank its neither anime nor manga but full length movies and novels. You know, books that have no pretty pictures to tell the story, but I digress. I do tend to watch more anime than I do manga because to be blunt, manga, unless it's to clarify the story or because it was radically altered, is very stale to read. No visualization, no music, voices or movement. And what makes it worse, no real reading comprehension required. Nothing against manga, I just prefer my reading to have more too it. So in the end, I watch more anime than I ever read manga. -

Waiting in sector three for her contact was anything but fun and Valencia was less than thrilled at being required to wait on the outskirts of the internal systems. Dropping out of hyperspace only to find her presence immediately confronted by the military had been a bit surprising since she was unaware of the attacks. She didn?t mind keeping her distance while waiting for her contact to arrive; it was a little annoying that she couldn?t head planet side while waiting though. -So? they?re sending that ship to pick up the Commander.- Cassandra sounded less than thrilled as she brought it up yet again. ?It?s not like I get to choose who my contact is,? Valencia explained. Though she too had been surprised to arrive in sector three and get the confirmation message with the information for who she would be handing the Commander over to. She would have much rather handed him over to Commander Landers since the Liberator was also present in that sector, but he was not her contact and she never broke from her agreement, as much as she would have loved to. Damn stupid Elite Specialists. I don?t care if this Kiva Salqarian is really an agent for the New Alliance, if I?d known they were sending her, I would have insisted on delivering the Commander directly to William. Valencia sighed and leaned back in her chair on the bridge, there was no point in getting upset over it, just as there was no point in saying anything to Cassandra either. In just a short while, once the Commander had been handed over she could leave for sector nine to get rid of her other passenger too. Maybe I will take a break after this assignment, I could always? she shook her head, knowing that she would not, there were too many other things she wanted to take care of. It made no sense to her that the New Alliance would bother to go to such lengths to capture the Commander though. He was fairly high up in the Versilan military?s chain of command but still, using the resources needed to get to him and the risk of such an undertaking? She was more inclined to believe that it was unexpected instead an actual mission to capture him. Wasting the resources on such a task was something she was sure the New Alliance couldn?t afford to do. -I know you don?t get to pick who your contact is Valencia,- Cassandra sounded a bit contrite. ?I just have to wonder what the hell William was thinking, after all it?s not like we couldn?t hand him over to Commander Landers.- ?Oh come now Cassandra, the arrangement was made before the Liberator came to this sector and you know perfectly well that moving an entire fleet just to pick up a contact is a silly waste of one?s time.? -I know that!- ?Just take it easy, we?ll hand him over and then head to sector nine to get rid of our other passenger.? She soothed her. ?One would think you were a Versilan instead of a computer with the way you carry on.? Cassandra just snorted before switching gears to report new data coming in as a ship dropped out of hyperspace. ?Speak of the devil.- ?Yeah, I know.? Valencia was already checking the readout herself, the point was now moot as the Catalyst had just arrived. Right on time too, something that did not surprise her. Valencia waited patiently for her to finally contact her ship. It didn?t take long and as expected, the clearance code to verify that the pilot of the Catalyst was her contact was sent immediately to her ship. Valencia sighed and opened up a channel. ?Catalyst, your code has been verified, what manner of transfer do you require for the cargo?? She waited for Kiva to respond. ?I require visual confirmation of the cargo in person.? Valencia hid the inevitable sigh. ?Understood, I?ll make the arrangements and transmit the coordinates in five minutes, Stykera out.? -You should have denied the request.- Cassandra complained as Valencia got up to head for the cell where the Commander was being held. ?Why? That sort of confirmation is not unusual nor is it unreasonable either. Stop whining Cassandra, the sooner we do this the sooner it will be over with.? She left the bridge after taking a moment to make sure her other passenger was still in her quarters where she belonged. Though considering that Cassandra had locked the door, it would have surprised her if the woman was wandering around; still it was better to be sure. Upon arriving at the outside to the Commander?s cell Valencia took a moment to bring up the display on the outside. The Commander was awake, sitting on the tiny bed in his cell. Good riddance, she thought as she closed the link back down. ?Alright, open up a channel Cassandra,? She ordered, only waiting for a moment before addressing the Catalyst. ?Catalyst, the coordinates are being sent now, you may transport over when ready.? ?Understood.? Valencia waited patiently for the transport door to open, trusting that Cassandra would have lowered the shield as well as sent the coordinates as required. After all, unlike regular computers, it wasn?t necessary for her to issue orders for every single detail to Cassandra; she would know what to do. Sure enough, a short while later the transport door opened in front of her and Kiva stepped through.

Anime Best Anime Character Pairings / Relationships
Aaryanna replied to XKaoriChanX's topic in Otaku Central
This is a fun idea XKaoriChanX, however, if it's to continue I expect people to do more than just list characters from animes without at least putting a little into why they think they are a fun pairing/relationship. Because lists on their own are kind of boring. For example take the ones you listed but didn't explain. Jaken & Rin - InuYasha What makes those two funny is how serious Jaken is where Rin is more laid back and utterly ignores his serious nature. I wouldn't consider it a real pairing, but they are fun to watch. Lina & Gourry - Slayers These two, from what I've seen crack me up because Lina is so volatile and emotional where Gourry is so laid back and clueless. So their utterly different personalities are fun to watch in action. I'm not familiar with the other ones you listed so I'll leave those alone, but I'm sure you get my point about doing more than just listing names. ^_~ -
Writing Aaryanna vs. Aberinkula [Poetry Contest]
Aaryanna replied to Sabrina's topic in Creative Works

Aaryanna: Not sure I like the repetition of "dust" in the second line. "Dusted with dust" just sounds ... well, what else would it be dusted with? :p
XP I didn't even notice the repetition. Also, I agree, with the sentiment that Aberinkula put a lot of thought into their poem. I was thinking that mine was too simple after reading it. It's got a lot in it and makes a good expressive poem. ^_^ -
Treble, I like the nice simple feel to your poem, it?s like one needs to actually go to the ocean to experience it for themselves. 8bit, as Beth said, yours is nice and expressive and has a great depth to it. I like both of them, making it hard to choose since I like how the first one is playful and the other more serious. And since I need to chose, I pick simple, placing my vote for Treble. Writing Aaryanna_Mom vs. Darren [Poetry Contest]
Aaryanna replied to Sabrina's topic in Creative Works
Okay, for my mom, I like how it?s talking like one is remembering a past vacation. With it wrapping up with a person having pictures to remind one of the trips they've taken. For Darren, its fun how it?s more about being unable to take that trip because the person is tied down. So the vacation is more in their mind or rather the desire to take one is. Naturally I like both. XP and since I need to pick, I vote for Darren. -
Writing indifference vs. SunfallE [Poetry Contest]
Aaryanna replied to Sabrina's topic in Creative Works
I like how indifference?s poem is all about the actual seasons as they change. Beth?s is fun for how it?s more about what a person enjoys about the actual season instead of just the change. It makes it hard since I like the image of change presented in the first and the emotion of experiencing it for the second. And since I can't choose both... I vote for indifference. -
Gavin, I like the almost forlorn feel of the first paragraph, just as I like the sentiment of the rest where the city is alive. I really like the feeling behind it. It kind of doesn?t mesh though since it seems like two different poems. Allamorph, I like how your poem is the city at night and then goes back to that moment when it started. Like an endless cycle of life. It?s more like the city is talking than a person. For this one I vote for Allamorph. Great job you two. ^_^

Writing Raiha vs. Rachmaninoff [Poetry Contest]
Aaryanna replied to Sabrina's topic in Creative Works
You two just had to make it difficult. >_> I think Raiha captured the essence of finding and appreciating love in the desert best and Rachmaninoff got the actual feel of a desert down best. When reading the first I could imagine the two enjoying it where the second I could almost imagine I was the desert. I enjoyed them, great poems by both of you. In the end, I cast my vote for Rachmaninoff. -
Personally I am not interested in being a part of the military... once I'm old enough that is. But for those who are interested, I see no reason why it's not a good thing. And I think others here have stated reasons as to why well enough already. I have one question though and that's to wonder why someone always ends up jumping on the stereotype bandwagon of accusing the military of being nothing more than a tool for war. Because if you stop and think about it, the military spends far more time not being at war than they ever do engaging in war. I find it hard to believe that they are just twitting their thumbs and not doing useful peacetime activities in addition to their training. It's easy to go hunting and finding examples of where those services are put to use for humanitarian aid as well as stuff that benefits our society. I think this article from back in 1924 proves my point since it is but one of many examples I found by doing a little searching: Peacetime Benefits So to think that the military is only for war is in my opinion, extremely short sighted.

Writing Aaryanna vs. Aberinkula [Poetry Contest]
Aaryanna replied to Sabrina's topic in Creative Works
Rockies Ragged peaks thrust into the blue sky, The tops dusted with a pure white dust, Glimmering softly as the light slowly dies, They?ll be there tomorrow, in that I trust. Pale golden light frames the morning day, Outlining the jagged ridges and ranks, Slowly and surely the golden sun plays, Illuminating the firs as they cover the banks. I stand upon the edge of the soaring cliffs, They stretch before me, as far as one can see, The melting snow still gathered in drifts, Serene Sierras will always be, the home for me. -

I'm just not too happy about my portfolio being totally empty now. I didn't have much uploaded to begin with, but now I have to do it all over again. *sigh*
I'd ask someone to check into that for you. I mean everything in mine transfered to the new one without a hitch. The same for my other friends too. Anyway, in all honesty, even though myOtaku was fun and I enjoyed it. I like Worlds a lot. I do miss some of the customization but at the same time I hated all the hacked sites. The ones that looked pretty, but you couldn't access anything beyond the front page since it broke the rest. But that's not the point, what is, in my opinion is that I find it exciting to see so many positive changes happening around the network. ^_^ From the update to OB last year to the new skins and to all the new features at theOtaku. VV, if I understand things correctly, opened it up so a lot more can be done and so the site would continue to grow. Also, I'm really glad the pm's were moved to the newer blogging system only. One of the new features is the ability to block members and I've had members be downright nasty to me at myOtaku. So being able to simply turn my page off there so they can't leave comments, also means that with the new system, they can't send me hateful pm's anymore either. That more than anything really makes me happy. I haven't gotten a single one since the change, which is really nice. I was getting tired of getting rants because I moderate here. I mean, it made no sense because OtakuBoards staff and theOtaku staff are separate. XP

I watched about 6 episodes of this and then put it off to watch outlaw star. It's good I think but if it were any longer it would be tedious and terrible(I haven't seen it all but the pacing of the series makes that fact clear to me).
That's what makes it such a good show, they didn't make the mistake of dragging it out with unnecessary filler episodes and such. Just thirteen altogether. Short, to the point and a fun retelling of Cinderella. I actually like this version a whole lot better than the Disney one and most Cinderella retellings. I never did care for that fairy tell to tell the truth. Well other than EverAfter... that was well done too. But it's not anime. :p
