2. I don?t see anything wrong with it. Especially if it?s someone you?ve been dating for a while and you are serious about getting married. The only problem I can see is if either your relatives or the relatives of the person you want to live with would object. It may be none of their business, but if they are like some of my Mom?s relatives, well if they knew that you had lived in what they consider a sinful situation, they would basically disown you. Admittedly some of them I would love for them to disown me, but I wonder if it would be worth it to alienate all of them. o_O Anyway, seeing that marriage has changed drastically through out the years: Marriage I really don?t see why it would matter if someone tried living together before they got married. It would make sense to me to see if you could get along. It?s one thing to get along a few times a week but every single day? I?ve got friends that a few days a week is all I can stand. ^_~
  3. It?s from an art book of illustrations "Project by Touhou series; Marvelous Grace - Tateha." Now that the question has been answered and since a number of the responses have been rather spammy there is no reason to keep this open. ~Aaryanna Thread Closed
  4. Seeing that this is turning into nothing but simple lists of different anime shows I?m going to shut it down as there?s very little in the way of conversation going on here. Zerosaber since you?ve been away for a while I suggest you take a moment to review the rules, once you?ve done so the reason why this was closed will make more sense. Hi

Welcome to OtakuBoards Animeswordmaste Introduction threads are not permitted at OtakuBoards because they have very little conversation value and end up cluttering up the forum. So instead of posting introduction threads, we prefer that new members just jump right into conversations since we will get to know you through your posts. Make sure to read the rules before continuing to post, and if you have any questions, feel free to pm myself or another member of the staff. Again welcome and we look foward to reading your posts. ~Aaryanna Thread Closed
  6. I can think of lots of things that make life worthwhile.
My Dog: No matter what I do she?s almost always a part of it. From curling up on my lap while I play a video game, to laying on the grass while I read a good book to going on walks and just having fun together. I always look forward to doing stuff with her. Books: I love coming home from the library with a sack full of new books to read. It just doesn?t seem right if I haven?t spent part of my day reading. Thunder Storms: Perhaps because they are so rare where I live, so when they do happen it?s fun to sit back and watch the lightning, it?s just so pretty. Especially at night. Family and friends: It just wouldn?t be the same without them. Even though we have our arguments I still love my mom. Music: I?m a big classical and movie soundtrack fan. I love going to classical concerts with my mom.
I?m sure I could come up with more, but these are the things I look forward to the most.

7. My favorite mythical/mystical creature is a fairy. From the Enchanters and enchantresses with supernatural powers to Nature fairies who are connected to nature, the water spirits, tree spirits and such. The other reason I like them is because I like the idea of having wings. I mean who wouldn?t want to be able to fly and have magical powers as well? ^_~
  8. Which is better: Sharingan or Byakugan Sharingan received 19 votes Byakugan received 19 votes Now that the poll is closed I merged this with the official Naruto thread. ^_^ As for the results of the poll, it was a tie. ^_~
  9. Avenged666fold I merged your thread with the existing Super Gals thread. Please be sure to check the official thread directory before starting a new anime specific thread. If you don't see the show listed there you can also do a quick forum search to see if one already exists. Also, please put a little more effort into your opening post. Your opening post was borderline spam as you didn't take the time to explain what the anime was about. Or to explain why you thought it was great and what it was about the art style and personality of the characters that you enjoyed. Anyway I have not seen this show so I went to Anime News Network to check it out and now that I've read this:
Plot Summary: Ran Kotobuki is the self-proclaimed world?s greatest gal. She lives to shop, eat, and have as much fun as possible. But she?s not all faux nails and Hawaiian jewelry; in the midst of all of her goofing off, she protects Shibuya from all manner of undesirable people. Purse snatchers, pushy guys and invading gals from elsewhere don?t stand a chance in Ran?s territory. Because of this, she?s widely respected by the denizens of Shibuya. And although she may look (and even act) a bit shallow, she?s got a big heart and a sense of justice that could put her Police Chief father to shame. But she?s not interested in that line of work, much to her family?s dismay. All she wants is to hang out with her best friends Miyu and Aya, and continue being the world?s greatest gal forever.
It looks like it would be a fun show to watch. Maybe I'll get lucky and it will be airing on some channel or available through OnDemand.
  10.
The females are a lot more timid, tend to have anime-themed avatars and sigs, and have a lot less outstanding natures. They don't generally attract as much notoriety as a lot of the guys. Why do you guys think this is? Is it just a manifestation of gender roles in real life, or is it just that girls aren't really expected to be the same magnitude of nerd as guys? Am I the only one who notices this, or am I just a paranoid freak? (Yes, yes you are...)
I?m wondering where that puts me with my Bichon theme. :p It?s usually pretty evident that I?m a girl, but I?ve just never had the urge to have an anime theme. I love anime, but I love my dog more. ;) I don?t know about what girls are expected to do elsewhere, but here in Utah, especially if you are LDS/Mormon you are expected to get married and have a family. And pretty much let your husband run everything. Something that has never appealed to me. Sorry guys I like to make my own decisions. Anyway, I?ve gotten people?s gender mixed up online, but that?s primarily because it?s hard to tell what someone really is unless they tell you or it?s part of the information about them. Most of the time I don?t think about. I just go by whether or not what they posted is interesting to read or not. For the most part I don't think about whether or not they are a girl or guy.
  11. Well she?s not in an anime per se, but she does look like an anime character. Even though she?s in a video game, though since there is an anime cut scene at the end of the game it kind of qualifies. Anyway, the character I resemble the most is Collette from Tales of Symphonia. I have light blonde hair and blue eyes and the only difference in looks is that my hair is shorter. Mine only goes about half way down my back. Personality wise we are nothing alike. I?m more open and speak my mind where she is reserved and apologizes all the time. But if you are going by looks alone, I could easily cosplay as her, especially if I were to let my hair get longer.
  12. Alannie I will be closing this thread for several reasons. First of all favorites threads like this are rarely allowed since like your opening post they often end up being nothing more than simple statements of which character is your favorite with very little in the way of an explanation of why they are your favorite. It leaves little room for discussion beyond saying which one you prefer. The other reason is expected post quality. Not only does post quality involve the concept of having clear, easy to read posts, along with correct use of spelling, grammar and punctuation, but it involves just how much a poster?s reply contributes, and expands to any given discussion. Something your opening post does not do. This is something that is greatly valued here at OtakuBoards, and we encourage members to exceed with their writing skills. Please take a moment to review the Rules and FAQ that is locate on the left sidebar and also read through the IMPORTANT: How to Post in Anime Lounge sticky located at the top of the Anime Lounge. 13. As much as I would love to make some extra money, unless I want to baby-sit, mow lawns or do other similar work, I can?t get a job until I turn fourteen. Something that won?t happen until later this month. Most places won?t even accept an application until I actually turn fourteen so I haven?t been able to apply for anything. At the same time, part of me would rather read and goof off all summer instead of working so I?m not sure if I am going to try and get anything or not. Especially since some of the volunteer stuff that I?m interested in won?t consider you unless you are at least sixteen years old.
  14.
I'm not saying that President Bush is secretly a master of prose or anything, but the way people speak doesn't always reflect their knowledge of the language. ~Dagger~
I would have to agree with Dagger. The way a person speaks in no way reflects their understanding of the language. A fair number of my Mom's relatives are from Texas and to listen to them you would get the impression that they aren?t very intelligent. They make all sorts of mistakes with their grammar and use all sorts of slang words when they speak. Yet in spite of that one is a vet and the other a family doctor. Both of them understood the language well enough to graduate from medical school. So the way they speak is not an indication of their literacy or lack of. You get them going on medical topics and the manner of their speech changes. But for simple conversation they fall back to speaking without regard to grammar. They aren?t horrible; they just make mistakes like everyone else. I always thought it was a combination of how they learned to talk as a kid and connecting with the person they are talking to.
What bothers me is not mainly the fact that we cannot speak English, but that we cannot read and write it. There are many adults who find themselves unable to comprehend documents, bills, forms, etc. America as a whole has lower literacy rates than we should considering the priveleges we have.
Here in Utah there is a high ratio of students per teacher, it tends to make it easier for a student to slip between the cracks. With forty students per class if more than one student is struggling with reading and writing the teacher does not have enough time to work with each student to correct that problem. And as Stark mentioned, a lot of parents assume that their child is being taken care at school. Unless a parent takes the time to make sure their kid is actually learning how to read it?s easy for them to attend school and yet not be able to read. Also, not being able to understand documents, bills and forms isn?t a good indication of literacy either. Unless there is some class on it in High School, which I have yet to attend, none of my classes even covered the basics of understand forms. I?m assuming that with so many companies out there and the constant changes to the actual forms, that even someone who is literate would struggle to understand them. I think that part of the problem with documents is that the companies who send them to you make no effort to ensure that the people they send them to can understand them. Take this example from the plain language movement. Before When the process of freeing a vehicle that has been stuck results in ruts or holes, the operator will fill the rut or hole created by such activity before removing the vehicle from the immediate area. After If you make a hole while freeing a stuck vehicle, you must fill the hole before you drive away. I?ve seen some of the bills my mom gets and honestly they are so wordy that you have to read them twice to figure out what?s being said. I think that?s an indication that the person who wrote it lacked the ability to write in a manner that the general population can understand. Anyway, I?m sure I?ve made mistakes with my grammar, but I don?t think it?s a good indication of my ability to understand the language.

  16. Drat, I was hoping you were posting the second part. :p The fact that you have a character who needs to
die (well later on that is)
has nothing to do with my hoping the next part describing their
demise
was what you had posted. I know, I know, that would have been confusing to those who haven't read it before. Meh. Well that doesn?t really matter. ^_^ I agree with indifference in that the new format is easier to read and flows much better. The shorter paragraphs are easier to read and the separation of the conversation is definitely much better. She also makes a good point about having an introduction paragraph or two. It would give readers a little bit of insight into what they are reading. I have the same question as well. Did you want suggestions? Or just feedback on things that seem off? And more importantly, I don?t suppose you?ve written any of the next part of the story? I?m eager to see what happens next. ^_^
  17.
I think it was meant as a shadow since there seems to also be a corresponding shadow in the ribbon hole too.
Now that you mention it I see the shadow in the ribbon hole. Opps! I missed that. Now I have to take it back since it makes more sense. ^_^
  18. sakurasuka: What I like best about your piece is the overall feel to it. I love the circles and the placement of the word sad. The border is nicely done and I like the way her hair is black and stands out. What I don?t care for is that part of the line of her hair on the top of her head looks jagged and the s at the end of colorless fades into the white. r2vq: What I like best about your piece is how you made it into a bookmark. The placement of the text is fun and I like how you created a hole in the text at the top as if it was a real bookmark. What I don?t care for is the border. I don?t know if you were trying to give in some depth by having the left and bottom a bit thicker (at least that?s how it looks on my screen) but I think a solid border would have been a little nicer. Good job, both of you. ^_^ I think both pieces outdo the other in different ways. In the end I choose r2vq.
  19. Katana: What I like best about your piece is how the messy lines especially along the top fit the idea of falling apart piece by piece. It?s like the form in the picture is coming apart from the top down. What I don?t care for is that the font seems to be a little closer to the right border than it is to the left. Perhaps moving in over to the left a touch would help? Ezekiel: What I like best about your piece is how nicely it?s organized. From the placement of the picture to the background it?s nicely laid out. I also like the texture in the background as it keeps the piece from being to bland. What I don?t care for is the placement of the font at the top. Perhaps moving it down a touch would help? It just seems to be slightly blended in with the top. Though that?s probably my screen. Anyway, nice job both of you. ^_^ I see a lot of creativity considering the limitations that were placed on this round. In the end I vote for Katana as I like the feel of things unraveling in their piece.
  20. White: What I like best about your piece is how clean and simple it looks. I also like how you maintained the integrity of the inner white border around the whole piece. The thing I don?t care for is the white leaves. They look nice, there?s just too many of them. Boo: What I like best about your piece is the arrows on the cogs of the clockwork. I also like how you have the word clockwork looking a bit squeezed along with the clockwork on the bottom of the piece. What I don?t care for is that the cogs in the middle are not squeezed together? It just looks slightly off. Anyway, both pieces are nicely done considering the restrictions that were put on this round. In the end I vote for White as I like the idea of colorless leaves. ^_^
  21.
I've been on ?vacation? for a while now, but I think I should step in here.
Welcome back. ;)
I?ve heard talk of penicillin and antibiotics in the news and in this thread- please note that antibiotics are useless against influenza and other viral infections.
If I wasn?t clear enough the first time with my reference to antibiotics I?ll rephrase it. I was referring to complications like Pneumonia, which can be caused by the flu virus or by bacteria that gets into the lungs when the body's defense system is weakened by the flu. Also while antibiotics are not useful in treating the flu, they may be necessary to clear up a related sinus or ear infection. Mind you I?m going off of information I?ve read and what my doctor has said when I say that antibiotics are helpful in treating additional complications that were caused by the flu. But not in treating the actual flu virus. I would imagine that if you did have the flu and later also had complications that were treatable by antibiotics, well as my doctor put it, it would increase your chances of surviving.
  22. Sounds to me like Pseudo-Intellectuals don?t know what the words ?I don?t know? means. I see nothing wrong with knowing only a little about different topics. And honestly unless you are acting like you know everything, it?s fun to talk about something new that you?ve learned. If we were to go upon the basis that you had to know everything about a given topic in order to talk about it, we would never talk about anything. I think the problem isn?t that their knowledge is lacking but rather their ability to admit that they don?t know more. It?s already been said in this thread, but it really sounds like they are just arrogant and full of themselves and they went and picked up a little knowledge to support their overrated belief in themselves. In that respect I would have to say that you are not a Pseudo-Intellectual Cygnus X-1 If you really were in any sense of the word. You would have never admitted that you try to pass yourself off as smart. Anyway I think Fasteriskhead described the real problem. The potential to be comfortable with a little knowledge without understanding where it came from or even attempting to see if what we just read is even true. My Mom is always telling me that just because it is written doesn't mean it's actually true. Anyway, I?d rather be an Intellectual since I know I have a lot of stuff to learn and a lot that I know nothing about. ^_^

  25.
I personally prefer subbed because it maintains what the character are really saying. I hate it when an anime is "americanized" and changed completely. Sometimes they even cut out the most important parts because its not right for the audience and when you see it does not make sense. They also change the names depending on the country that dubbes it. I really prefer subbed.
Sometimes a name change is necessary. Take the series Detective Conan which was re-named to Case Closed for the USA. There was the issue of the name Conan already being copyrighted for Conan the Barbarian. Yes they are different titles, but often instead of worrying over the possible issues that could occur, they just change the name to avoid any potential problems. The story behind the title change, from Detective Conan to Case Closed!, is similar to the one that faced the Lupin III franchise in the past: Tokyo Movie Shinsha, the producers of Detective Conan, simply didn't want any legal problems to arise from using the name "Conan" in the title. So it wasn?t Americanized; the original producer is the one who actually made the decision. They also made the decision to use more American names. I myself prefer the original names but I have many friends who find it confusing since they are not familiar with Japanese names and it makes it harder for them to remember who is who.
