Recently an online friend of mine was in a car accident. The person who hit their car not only ran a red light, but the police estimated that they were going around 50 mph in a 35 mph zone. My friend ended up with a broken leg and a concussion from the accident and I have to wonder if they hadn?t been speeding if he would have been hurt as much. Even though I do not drive, as I am not old enough I find myself wondering if installing speed camera?s would help to reduce the problem with people speeding. I know that speed cameras were first introduced in Germany in the late 1980s and are now common throughout Europe, Australia and parts of North America, although many states in the USA still do not have them and France has only recently begun to introduce them in the past couple of years. What I don?t know is if it has actually made a difference or not. I?ve found information saying it has helped and then more information saying it hasn?t. Based on what I have read I am inclined to believe that it would help since speeding causes accidents because it reduces the amount of time a driver has to react to changing road conditions and the actions of other drivers. I also understand that how fast you are going can change how serious the injuries are from the accident. I?m sure that hitting another car at say 20 mph is bound to do a lot less damage than say 40 mph. I also think they would be a good idea since what I read indicated that most of them are programmed to get your information only if you are going more than 10 mph over the stated speed limit. I can understand that people may be running late or want to save time, but can you honestly say there is a valid reason to speed and risk killing someone? Anyway, what do all of you think? Are you all for it and if so why are you for it? And if you are against the idea, again why?

Ever since I saw the movie An American Tail I?ve always liked this song: Somewhere Out there. It?s just so pretty and I love how the two of them are singing about finding one another.
Somewhere Out There Somewhere out there beneath the pale moonlight Someone's thinking of me and loving me tonight Somewhere out there someone's saying a prayer That we'll find one another in that big somewhere out there And even though I know how very far apart we are It helps to think we might be wishing on the same bright star And when the night wind starts to sing a lonesome lullaby It helps to think we're sleeping underneath the same big sky Somewhere out there if love can see us through Then we'll be together somewhere out there Out where dreams come true And even though I know how very far apart we are It helps to think we might be wishing on the same bright star And when the night wind starts to sing a lonesome lullaby It helps to think we're sleeping underneath the same big sky Somewhere out there if love can see us through Then we'll be together somewhere out there Out where dreams come true
There are other songs that I like but this one has been my favorite for a long time. ^_^

I don?t know if I have any stories of encountering racism since most of the problems I?ve encountered have been the stereotyping of blonde white girls are stupid. It?s not true, but people assume that I?m dumb based on my hair and skin color. Anyway?
Do you think racism will ever stop? Do YOU have a racial prejudice, if so explain. Have you ever been attacked because of your race?
No I don?t. The belief that race accounts for differences in human character or ability and that a particular race is superior to others has been around for a very long time. I can remember my great grandmother telling me when I was barely eight years old that because I was white I was better than other people. o_O I didn?t believe her and told her that I didn?t. I?ll never forget the look in her eyes. She really believed that being white somehow made her better than others. This is why I think racism will never end. Those who are racist or rather believe they are, try to get others to believe them. In time I think it will get better and in fact I think it already has, but on some level I think it will always exist. Actually on some level I do have racial prejudices. Not that I think I am superior or better than others, but there are races that I have never met so my knowledge of them is based on what others have told me. That makes my judgment or opinion off as it has been formed beforehand and without complete or accurate knowledge of the facts. Something that I won?t be able to correct until I actually meet and get to know them. It?s not deliberate, but on some level its unavoidable. As for being attacked?that?s a yes and a no. I?ve had others verbally attack me and call me a dumb blonde, but that?s probably more of a stereotyping issue than a racial attack. Other than that no one has ever attacked or bothered me just because I am white.

Well I don?t have PaintShopPro and I have no idea what Vectors are but I?ll still tell you what I think. ^_^ Imagine: For this piece I like the circles at the top. The one thing that seems off is at the edge of the top right it looks like a straight line instead of a curve. And the font though nice might fit better if it were a little more curvy? Overall it?s a great piece and I like how it?s got an inner white border. A Kiss: This one is adorable and not just because I love pink. ^_^ I love the texture in the background and the lines look like oddly shaped hearts. Very cute. What seem off to me is the font for ?A kiss is a? and ?superfluous? It just seems a little too blocky? Also I?m curious as to how it would look with a heart outline in the corner instead of a flower. Bleed Red: I don?t have a lot to say about this one. Primarily because I think that though it?s simple it?s well stated. And the splotches in the lower right hand corner just emphasizes the simple statement of In the end, We all bleed Red. Nice job. ^_^ Private Idaho: I like this piece though I?m not sure what context it?s supposed to represent? The only thing off is perhaps the top half as there is nothing happening? Still its got a nice and clean look. Words Hurt: Well first of all the bright yellow is almost painful. But in a way it fits the idea of Words hurt only in this case its my eyes. ^_~ I like how on the other side the reversal of colors where it says Don?t Speak is easier on the eyes and therefore gives the impression of painful to look at (Words Hurt) to not painful to look at (Don?t speak) This too is clean and simple. Color: Well to be honest this last one I like the least. It is a nice concept but the yellow is a little too bright. And for this one I don?t like the font. It just seems to clash a little. Anyway, great pictures. ^_^ Makes me wish I knew how to do it so I could take a shot at making pieces like you have. I hope you post more.

Keyblade Wielder: Well what I like about your piece is the layers underneath the words Strength, Revenge and Power. The only drawback is that the font doesn?t really match and it actually distracts from the background. I do like the sharp contrast between the blue and black colors, but the lack of a border around the whole piece seems a little off. White: What I like the best about your piece is the striped background. It?s very colorful and goes well with the font for Broadway. I also like the animation of the leaf as it draws subtle attention to the words underneath. What I don?t care for is the choice of font for feel like a star and the words under the leaf. Not because of the typo it just doesn?t really fit with the Broadway font. Anyway, for this round I vote for White.
And did you know that there are more then 300 episodes of Case Closed in Japan?
Try more than 440 episodes, ten movies and a number of specials as well. ^_~ Want to know more? Just go here: Detective Conan Anyway, I've seen the first 160 episodes of this show and like many others I adore watching it. I really like the twist of how Conan has to try and solve things while he is stuck in the body
of a child.
With all the nifty gadgets he has and the other kids tagging along, well I just love watching it since every episode is it's own mystery to be solved.

jigglyness: What I like about your piece is the use of red to make the frame with the words damaged people stand out. It?s also got a nice messy feel to it. And the way the border is affected by what the picture is doing really looks nice. The main problem I see is that it?s too busy; so it?s hard to figure out what I am suppose to be focusing on. r2vq: First of all I really like the animation you did with this piece. It really fits. The words and image really fit the over all theme. I also like your choice of font. Over all it?s very nicely done. The only thing I don?t care for is that there is so much darkness surrounding the entire piece. Though I suppose that's the whole point right? ^_^ Anyway, although both pieces are nicely done, I have to choose so my vote goes to r2vq

Ezekiel: I really like your piece. Honestly I almost expect it to be the cover to a children?s book as it?s got that bright and vivid look of a colorful story. The clouds and layers of blue as you go up are really quite cute. The only thing that seems a little off to me is that one of the balloons in the top right hand corner doesn?t seem to match the size of the string hanging down. It just seems that a balloon that small would have a much thinner looking string. Sara: What I like best about your piece is how the font you choose really fits the picture. The colors are a nice choice as well and the border is nice and crisp looking. What I don?t care for is that the layer over most of the picture is strong enough that to me it distracts from the picture underneath. It gives it a bit of a washed out look. My vote goes to Ezekiel as I really like how their piece turned out.

sakurasuka: What I like best about your picture is how nice the grayscale effect looks. It has a nice clean look. And even though I can?t read the smaller text it still gives the effect of being part of a song. What I don?t like is how some of the ^ patterns are running across her face. It looks good on the side, but it seems distracting in the middle of her face. And though the font of the words along the top look nice, they seem to be too big and I find it distracting from the overall piece. Kune: What I like best about your piece is the overall messy feel to it. The background is blurred but the blue flowers are more sharply in focus making them pop so to speak. I like the font you chose though it is a bit hard to read. The thing I don?t care for is the gray running across the flowers. It?s very distracting and in my opinion sort of ruins the pop effect of them being in blue. As for my vote, I vote for Kune. Both pieces are nicely done, I just like the overall feel of Kune?s piece better.

Hehe, thanks! ^_^ I wanted something different and I didn?t know how to explain it! I especially love how you did the banner with the different circles and background. I also like how you did different shades of green. The partial circles on the avatar are pretty cool too. ^_^ I think I'm going to check out the link you provided on brushes.

Time for a new Bichon banner and avatar set. ^_~ I love my current set (saves a copy of both for future use) but I?d like to have one that?s more of a summer theme instead of winter. With that in mind I?ve got two pictures I would like to have done. My apologies in advance since they are scans of a reprint so the quality is a bit lacking. I hunted for the originals for over a week and I?ve no idea where I put them. Anyway... I would like this one used for my avatar: BichonAvatar And this one for the banner: BichonBanner I?d like something a little different than what I currently have. This time around I would prefer it if my name is not on either one, but beyond that I?m open to anything. ^_^
Haha...you know, I try to think, and I have no clue. ^^;;;; I guess I'd date Zelos, from Tales of Symphonia, because he's a mega-flirt and hot. I know technically, he's from a video game, but since Kosuke Fujishima (creator of Ah! My Goddess and You're Under Arrest!) did the character art, it sort of counts... >.

My idea of a perfect day is to be outside on a warm summer day sitting on the grass in the shade and reading one of my favorite books. I would alternate between being inside playing video games with friends and going outside to relax in the shade. But for the day to be perfect, I would like to be up in the mountains either camping or at a cabin with a deck since I love to curl up in a sleeping bag under the stars and listen to the rustling of the leaves in the wind. It's the perfect way to end the day. ^_^
Today I was wondering if anyone ever read my sig since no one ever comments on it. But then I felt bad cuz I read everyone's sig, but I myself never comment on them. So, do you read people's sigs? And what's your favorite sig?
I love to read people?s signatures. ^_^ Well except for ones that are mostly different smiles. I worry that looking at those too long will somehow fry my brain. o_O Anyway, some of the best things can be found just by reading people?s signatures or the links they provide, I remember the first link I clicked on like it was yesterday. I had been seeing Desbreko?s posts around the board when I realized that the words underneath his banner were actually links. The DailyOtaku had me laughing so hard I had tears running down my face and I had to stop reading to catch my breath several times. It was beyond funny. ^_^ Which is why I added the link to my own signature. If you haven?t read it yet, you don?t know what you are missing. ^_~ Since that fateful day, I tend to follow the links people provide in their signature to see where they lead.

For me my dream job is to be a vet. ^_^ I?m already planning on attending college to get my bachelor?s degree since so many vet schools prefer it if you already have a well-rounded education when you apply. I?ve always love animals (especially dogs) and it just makes perfect sense to work with them. If being a vet didn?t work out then my next choice is to run a grooming shop or to even work at a zoo. I?m thinking the zoo would be even more interesting as you would get the chance to work with a lot of different animals.
Why do so many people have neighbours who are spiteful for no reason at all? What kind of a jerk would purposely send his dog across the street to poop on someone's yard?
I wish I knew. It certainly makes no sense to me. When the neighbor behind us threw the branch back over the fence he could have hit someone or damaged plants. On some level I think they just don?t care. It?s like on some level they never grew up. Compared to my other neighbors it?s like having an alien living behind us who just happens to look like a human. To be fair, our other neighbors are just fine. We don?t have any issues and for the most part we get along just fine. I just wish the guy living behind us would set a better example for his kids. I?d hate to see them grow up and be exactly like their father.
Does our character history have to end with us becoming incapacitated? Do we need to include any information at all on this great exodus to West France? Thanks.

You were part of a mass exoddus that you can not remember, during a Second Great War that you were oblivious to.
I assumed that since we cannot remember it that it would make sense that our sign up did not include any information on it. ^_^ I'm excited for this to start. Even if I don't get chosen I'm looking forward to reading it. I was kind of sad when Survivor ended.

Name: Bethany Henderson Age: 20 Gender: Female Place of Origin: Salt Lake City, Utah USA (or former if it no longer existed when my character was born ^_^) Known History: Unlike her brother Darren, Bethany loved school and excelled at her studies. From a very young age she declared that she was going to be a vet when she grew up and spent countless hours reading everything she could find about veterinary medicine. When she was in High School she started a group dedicated to assisting the humane society with finding homes for abandoned pets and campaigning for donations to pay for their care at local vet clinics. Now she is attending college to get her bachelor?s degree as most students entering veterinary schools have received a bachelor?s degree focusing on the pre-veterinary requirements, which consist of biology, chemistry, physics, math, English, humanities, and social sciences. In addition to attending college and continuing her work with the local humane society she also provides basic grooming care for pets for the elderly by going to several homes a week and bathing, brushing and doing basic care for their pets as many elderly can not afford to pay a professional pet groomer. Any spare time after her activities and homework is often spent with her older brother Darren. Personality: Bethany is very outgoing and friendly. She has never known hardship or loss and has a hard time understanding why others would be mean to other people or animals. Her kind and sweet nature results in her being a bad judge of character and she is often taken advantage of. Her trusting nature tends to not only get herself into to trouble but her brother Darren as well. Appearance: Unlike Darren who favored their father, Bethany looks just like her mother who has black hair with blue highlights and green eyes with a trim athletic frame. Unlike her mother she is on the short side and barely reaches five feet in height. She is often singled out by others looking to take advantage of her but most of them are intimated by her older brother Darren and for the most part she is left alone. Animal Genes: Common household dog. Hybrid Abilities: Bethany?s strongest ability is that like most dogs she can easily jump several times her own height. Combined with her ability to run really fast she can easily jump onto the roof of a two-story building. Her other ability is that on some level she can sense if someone is telling the truth or not based on how they smell and other body language clues. Though unlike her ability to run fast and jump, it?s not as reliable since her sense of smell is not strong enough unless she is very close to the person in question. And even then it can be muddled by other smells making it harder for her to sort them out. OCC: indifference and I thought it would be fun to do a sign up where we played sister and brother. Though if you want us to change that, just let us know. ^_^

Welcome to OtakuBoards darkbladex9 I will be closing this thread for several reasons. First of all favorites threads are rarely allowed since like your opening post they often end up being nothing more than simple statements without any reasons or explanations of why the anime is your favorite. The other reason is expected post quality. Not only does post quality involve the concept of having clear, easy to read posts, along with correct use of spelling, grammar and punctuation, but it involves just how much a poster?s reply contributes, and expands to any given discussion. Something your opening post does not do. This is something that is greatly valued here at OtakuBoards, and we encourage members to exceed with their writing skills. Please take a moment to review the Rules and FAQ that is locate on the left sidebar and also read through the IMPORTANT: How to Post in Anime Lounge sticky located at the top of the Anime Lounge. I?m sure everyone knows what I?m talking about here. The neighbors who have some of us wishing we lived out in the middle of nowhere away from other people. Or have us wishing we could evict them for bad behavior. I cringe to see that some of them actually have kids, as their behavior is downright childish. We have a couple of neighbors like this and unfortunately one of them lives in the house right behind ours. When they first moved in a few years ago they decided to add on to their home in their backyard. Instead of having the construction workers throw away the trash from their lunch into the garbage can the owner had them throw it over the fence into our backyard. My mom had to go over there and talk to the construction company to put an end to it, as the owner wouldn?t do anything. He would even collect the trash from the workers just so he could toss it over the fence! Also when they first moved in it was near the end of the summer and when I was walking my dog past his house he came running out of the house and started yelling at me. Apparently a dog had pooped in his yard and he was convinced it was my dog! Never mind the fact that if he had any brains at all he would have realized that a tiny dog like mine doesn?t put out poop that big! What made it worse was his wife just stood in the background and didn?t even try to stop her husband from yelling at an eleven year old kid. I put up with it at first until he started accusing me of stopping by there every day all summer so my dog could poop in his yard and that he was tired of cleaning it up. At that point I got mad and yelled at him, telling him that the house had been empty all summer and that he only moved in last week! I then proceeded to chastise him for being an adult and yelling and lying to a kid. I got pretty loud at that point. He just looked surprised and shut up. So I went on my way and I don?t walk in front of their house anymore. Anyway, their most recent bad behavior consisted of cutting down a branch from a pine tree that hung over the fence a bit and then throw the branch over the fence into our back yard. It just never ends. This neighbor looks for ways to be disagreeable. Honestly if I could, I?d spank him and ground him for the whole summer. I?m sure all of you have dealt with nasty neighbors at one time. Any suggestions or stories of your own experiences?

Well first of all I think it?s obvious that a movie is going to take a few facts and then present a worst-case scenario. Otherwise what would be the point? I?m quite sure that the movie is loaded with scare tactics designed to get more attention. Honestly I would find a documentary about bird flu far more scary since it would likely be based more on facts than on Hollywood drama. Although two teams of scientists announced that they had reproduced the 1918 Spanish flu virus and found it to be a bird flu, I think that if it did break out it would not be the same as it was back in 1918. For one thing back then we didn?t have antibiotics or viral medications or other forms of treatment for diseases. The flu may be viral but often people are killed by pneumonia or other complications caused by the flu that although initially viral later end up being bacterial as well and proper treatment can halt the disease especially if someone is treated quickly enough. So I suspect that improvements in medicine will help to keep it from being an all out disaster. Not that it wouldn?t be terrible, just that without modern medicine it would probably be a hundred times worse. I suspect the biggest factor that would cause it to be another epidemic if it were to mutate and become highly contagious, is the lack of doses of the viral medicines Tamiflu and Relenza for treating people. I understand that the government of many countries is moving to secure enough doses to treat people but that right now they only have enough for about 25% of the population. Here in the USA that is, I don't know about other countries.

I don?t really use a lot of Internet acronyms for the simple reason that I find them annoying. I really prefer actual English instead of trying to figure out what people are trying to say. I do occasionally use ?hehe? as like Gavin said it?s hard to portray laughter over the Internet. But unless I really find something amusing I don?t use it. Though sometimes I use it when I?m feeling rather hyper or very happy. I do like to use the smiley faces in moderation, but again it?s because I actually am smiling or feel like smiling. So I think a few are appropriate. Like in my signature. I really do love the banner.

I think you did an excellent job. The pictures, text and overall effects go nicely together. The only thing I see a problem with is some of the smaller text. It could be my screen, but the smallest text is a little hard to read. I can read it but I have to lean a little closer to the screen to properly see it.

I?m a bit disappointed, but mostly because I already know my parents are not going to dish out $500-600 to get me a new game system. I was surprised when they finally put out $150 for the PS2 last week. Maybe by the time I?m old enough to get a job in two years the price will not be so high. Still I have to wonder who their target audience is. Anyone who is making close to or just over minimum wage is going to find that buying a PS3 is half a month?s wage. It?s not like you can just skip paying your bills for a month.

If you could meet other OtakuBoards members, would you?
Aaryanna replied to a topic in General Discussion
Despite being a BR fan I wouldn't really last very long at all. I would rather meet up with other members at a con....a nice safe anime convention.
I would love to meet other members at an anime convention. However, I have just over two years before I will be old enough to even drive and I?ve yet to see an anime convention being held in Utah. And even when I finally get my driver?s license, I doubt my Mom is going to let me drive to an anime convention in another state by myself. Though I suppose I can?t complain too much since two of my best friends in real life are members, so I?ve at least already met two OB members. ^_^
