We never had a junior dictionary when I was growing up, ever. o_O Now I'm glad we didn't. So long as it's just those types of dictionaries I don't care that they're switching up the words but if they ever did that to regular ones... I'd so object. Still the words they removed? lolwut?!? =P Though when I saw the title of this thread... I thought of this. Just so people know... I talked to Sabrina and she'll be picking up where I left off with my post. I separated the group up and though I indicated that Zahir and Jamie were going to look together, there's no reason why they can't decide to split up after Katelyn and Viktor left.

Katelyn said quietly. After a brief discussion, they had decided to split up and look for the others independently. Jamie and Zahir were going to look for Arthur and Alex while Viktor and her were going to see if they could get to where Natalia and Jeff were. There had been some concern that they wouldn?t even be able to get in, but Viktor was of the opinion that since the system indicated Arthur had entered and left, it was probably not working correctly. Something that Katelyn agreed with. Now that she and Viktor were getting closer to the entrance to the sealed deck, it was eerily quiet and empty of passengers and personnel from the ship. Still it was at least better than seeing the remains of those who had perished in the crash. ?I'm sure they'll find them.? Viktor assured her. Katelyn just nodded and fell silent as they made their way down the stairs since the lifts weren?t working. Though if they had been, she wouldn?t have used one. It would be supremely ironic to survive the crash only to get stuck or killed trying to use the lifts. They were halfway down the stairs when a loud boom sounded and seconds later Katelyn felt the deck vibrate under her feet. Without thinking she took off at a run, ignoring Viktor?s shout for her to stop. A feeling of dread raced through her, making her feel cold all over. ?Katelyn! Stop!? She heard him calling out behind her, she really did, but she couldn?t stop. All she could see was the passengers being tossed about before they died. Her nightmares where she could hear her parents voices as she searched for them in vain. Terrible fear seized her and she found herself running even faster. The door leading into the corridor at the bottom of the stairs was partially open and she wrenched it open. She was thwarted briefly when part of her uniform snagged on the metal, but a swift jerk to pull it free and she was off before Viktor could catch and stop her. There was a set of open doors at the end of the hallway and she had barely taken a step through when someone called her name. It took her a moment to realize that she was looking at Natalia and Jeff. But why in the world were they being restrained and? She shook her head and ran over. A million questions ran through her mind making it hard to think straight. ?You?re hurt! What happened? Who did this?? She sank to her knees next to Jeff and Natalia. ?It?s a long story,? Jeff said. ?I can explain that later. What I need you to do is to go and fetch someone from security so they can remove the cuffs.? ?We haven?t seen anyone from security since the crash,? Viktor said as joined the trio, crouched down next to Katelyn and started pulling out the small emergency kit that he had with him. ?We should treat that wound of yours before we do anything.? Katelyn sat back on her heels and breathed a small sigh of relief as Viktor started dealing with Jeff?s shoulder, and then froze as Jeff explained who had locked them up. What? Samantha did this? But, she was so nice! She shivered when he also explained that it was Samantha who had injured him. Katelyn looked at Natalia in disbelief but Natalia just smiled sadly and nodded at her unspoken question. It was true all of it. Why? Before she could regain her composure to ask a question, she froze at what Natalia said next. ?Arthur blew a hole in the side of the ship; he wasn?t carrying anything with him. Perhaps there?s something here we could use to remove the cuffs?? ?What?? She twisted in place to look at the light coming in from the hole in the side of the ship. She had paid it no heed since she had assumed the crash had caused the damage. With a start she realized that she hadn?t really paid attention to anything, not even the massive canisters. This is what they were so secretive about? Her eyes were drawn to the letters in red painted down the side and she tuned out what the others were saying without meaning too. She came back to herself with a start when she realized that Viktor was explaining what to do next, she nodded dumbly and took over treating Jeff as he got up and walked off to the other side of the deck. Katelyn vaguely recalled Jeff telling him what to look for, but she had been trying to think of what the letters could stand for. ?Are you okay Katelyn?? Natalia asked her. ?Yeah,? She shook her head. ?Sorry about that.? ?Did any of the others make it?? Katelyn filled them in, explaining everything quickly. ?So why did Arthur blow a hole in the side of the ship and leave you here?? She started stuffing the kit back into the little backpack it had been in, cleaning up. Jeff gave her an odd look before responding. ?I?ll explain once Viktor returns.?

I'd like to think that as a race we are smart enough to know that rushing the doors to a shopping center just to save a few bucks is inherently stupid, but apparently not. She had certainly gotten plenty of experience using them since she was forever forgetting her passenger tag. ?Most of the system seems to be offline.? She glanced at the others and then up briefly at the huge hole in the dome of the ship. ?That or the sensors for monitoring the tags has been damaged in certain areas.? ?So what parts of the ship are working?? Zahir asked as he leaned in to look at the screen. Three names were on display to the right, his, Katelyn?s and Jamie?s. On the left it indicated where they were located. Katelyn had searched for them first to see if it was even working. ?I?m not sure,? Katelyn answered. ?The error message there at the top of the screen doesn?t say.? She didn?t bother to explain, the others could see the red letters scrolling across the screen for themselves. All it indicated was that some of the system was offline and to check back later. It didn?t say which areas were actually offline. ?Let me put the others names in.? She turned and with a few taps on the keyboard, pulled up the menu and started typing in the names. Jamie was being awfully quiet, but she imagined it was on account of the concussion the doctor said he had. She still didn?t know what was on the flash drive he had pressed into her hands. Since it was obvious he was still out of it, she had simply tucked it into one of her pockets for safekeeping. Once they knew more about was going on and when he was feeling better, then she?d ask him about it. Katelyn had entered the name of everyone who had been with them at the deep space out post and when she moved to hit enter, she flagged the option that would tell them if someone else was within twenty feet of the person they were searching for. Her fingers hovered over the enter button for a few moments and then she pressed enter and waited. The first two names flashed up on the screen, Alex and Arthur, their status listed as unknown. Her heart sank, even though she knew it only meant their tags were somewhere where the system wasn?t working. It didn't mean they were dead. She turned at the sound of Jamie?s voice. ?Well so much for that. If only the system told you which areas weren?t working, it would make searching a whole lot easier.? She turned back as the other names started coming up. Katelyn felt both a thrill of relief and alarm when it indicated that Viktor was in that area. Just as it didn?t tell them what area?s weren?t working, it also didn?t say if the person was alive or not. The image of Ilona?s body flashed before her eyes and she struggled to repress a shiver. Don?t be dead, please don?t be dead. She thought frantically. She didn?t know if she could stand to see even more corpses. I am so tired of death, she thought wearily. First her parents and now this. Why? All thoughts of her parents and even Viktor were forgotten for the moment when the next couple of names came up, Natalia and a Jefferson? Isn?t that Samantha Wells personal security? She searched her memory and realized that it had to be. She and Viktor had sat next to them in the shuttle when it went over to the deep space outpost. But that was not what had her speechless, according to the system, both of them were in the restricted deck that no one knew anything about. What the hell? How did they end up in there? She didn?t need to turn and look to know that the others were just as surprised as she was.

Well, I have one question: Why don't they just make a fantasy game if they like swords so much? I mean, they are already visiting fantasy worlds anyways, if what Rach says is correct. It just makes more sense. I don't mind Science-Fantasy - Death to the Emperor! - but, JRPG just has this retarded fascination with swords. I mean, why do they have swords in FF7 and 8? It just breaks the modern day setting. Yes, I know the Lionheart is a badass sword, but that is beyond the point! Most of the JRPGs are a poor man's Science-Fantasy. There are much better Sci-Fantasies I can recommend than what the standard JRPG offers. And what is up with the realistic graphics but the anime characters? That will forever turn me off. Sorry.
I guess my question is, why should they? Make one that doesn't mix those aspects you don't care for? I've only played Star Ocean: Till the End of Time, but it was a mix. One character used swords, another a type of gauntlets, one various types of laser pistols, etc. You see it as retarded when it merely seems to me that they're following a similar path as previous versions of this series. And I enjoyed the previous game a lot. It's one of my all time favorites out of the games I own. See the thing is, if I want one that is more sci-fantasy, I can go and look for it, but I like the hybrid mix that has some of both. So though you think the others are better, I actually like this better. I think it's really more of a preference when it comes to types of games, instead of one actually being better than the other. So you don't care for it, that's fine. =P My only lament is that I don't have an xbox 360 so I won't even be able to play it when it comes out.

"The proposition that the people are the best keepers of their own liberties is not true. They are the worst conceivable, they are no keepers at all; they can neither judge, act, think, or will, as a political body." -John Adams People were not even given the right to vote until 1870 because they were deemed unqualified to make such judgements. Enough said about about.
No it's not enough said and you're indirectly proving my point about change. About how it's a slow process. For starters your bit on the people not voting until 1870 is wrong. I'll explain. When the Constitution was written, only white male property owners (about 10 to 16 percent of the nation's population) had the vote. During the early 1800s, states gradually dropped property requirements for voting. Later, groups that had been excluded previously gained the right to vote. Other reforms made the process fairer and easier. It was like a lot of government processes, a gradual one, a look at the timeline for voting rights shows that. In 1790 only white male adult property-owners have the right to vote. A whole lot sooner than the 1870 you just declared. It may have been a small percentage, but it was more than just top leaders of the country. By 1810 the last religious prerequisite for voting is eliminated. How ironic, further separation of government and religion. By 1850 property ownership and tax requirements are eliminated. This meant that nearly all adult white males could vote. Around 1855 Connecticut adopts the nation's first literacy test for voting. Massachusetts follows suit in 1857. The tests were implemented to discriminate against Irish-Catholic immigrants. Now here comes the date you were insisting on, In 1870 the 15th Amendment is passed. It gives former slaves the right to vote and protects the voting rights of adult male citizens of any race. It wasn't a sudden "now the people can vote deal" it was an expansion of an already existing voting system. In 1890 Mississippi adopts a literacy test to keep African Americans from voting. No surprise there when you consider our history. Many other states, and not just in the south, also establish literacy tests. The irony of that move was that the tests also exclude many whites from voting. To get around this, states added a grandfather clauses that allow those who could vote before 1870, or their descendants, to vote regardless of literacy or tax qualifications. In 1913 the 17th Amendment calls for members of the U.S. Senate to be elected directly by the people instead of State Legislatures. More power to the people yes? In 1915 Oklahoma was the last state to append a grandfather clause to its literacy requirement (1910). In Guinn v. United States the Supreme Court rules that the clause is in conflict with the 15th Amendment, thereby outlawing literacy tests for federal elections. In 1920 the 19th Amendment guarantees women's suffrage. Way past the 1870 you quoted, since full voting rights, like a lot of things, was a slow process. In 1924 Indian Citizenship Act grants all Native Americans the rights of citizenship, including the right to vote in federal elections. In 1944 the Supreme Court outlaws "white primaries" in Smith v. Allwright (Texas). In Texas, and other states, primaries were conducted by private associations, which, by definition, could exclude whomever they chose. The Court declares the nomination process to be a public process bound by the terms of 15th Amendment. And there's still more that I could quote. This is what I'm talking about, along with Allamorph, the process. While you and many others are focusing on what the end should be instead of looking more at the road to get there. Whether you think it's fair or not is irrelevant. What is relevant is working through the system to change it.
I'm just as tired of saying this as I'm sure you are of hearing it, but I don't care what the rest of the people see it as[/B']. Gay marriage is equal rights and to vote on it is a ghastly misinterpretation of the constitution and the liberties and freedoms it stands for. Countless times in this country we have deemed such actions of laws "unconstitutional", and it will only be a matter of time before this issue is seen as such. It's insulting to the homosexual population in this country, and to this nation as whole that considers itself "free".
You should care. Wrong or not, people are entitled to their opinion. Running around and accusing them of being hypocrites isn't going to help matters at all. Calm and rational application of due process and working through the system will. I've already said I don't agree with the bans being enacted. I just see no reason to get in a tizzy and be angry over something when it serves no purpose.

What was the most disgusting thing you've tasted?
Aaryanna replied to Lunar's topic in General Discussion
Medicine always ends up on the list, since usually it's the only thing I end up eating/taking that might taste bad. Cough syrup being one of the worst offenders. The other would be cooked green peppers. Unless it's in little pieces on pizza, they're just so slimy that it's just nasty to eat. How can something that when fresh and crisp taste so yummy turn around and be so horrid when cooked? XP -
My plans are simple. Help my mom make lots of tasty food, spend time with friends and family. Play games while I'm in a semi food coma. Naturally this will include my dog curling up on my laps since she does that while I play games. Then when I'm recovered, it's more food, black Friday shopping (more for fun than anything) and then more goofing off since I won't have school again till the following Monday. It's just a nice break and I'd have to say that the food part is the best since my mom makes some really yummy stuff. Leftovers all weekend is just divine.

How is it fair to allow people to vote on the civil rights of fellow American citizens? This shouldn't be about "what people want", this is about EQUAL RIGHTS. That's all. This isn't like voting for your favorite color of M&M; this is someone's life. It shouldn't be in the hands of the public. And it's not about people not being allowed to vote on this issue "because you say so", it's about not letting the majority inhibit the rights of the minority. Every civil rights law ever passed has passed without the vote of the people.
Did I say it was fair? How about you read what I said again. I never once said the process was fair, I said the layers of the law exist to protect us. Also take note that I never said it was perfect either. Not that you said that, I'm just pointing that out.
Anyway, as much as I think it was wrong to pass the law, I'm still in favor of letting states (and yes that means the people) have a hand in determining policy. Cutting people out of the equation would have an even greater potential to cause problems.
The law has always been about what the people want, its why they bothered to establish a new country in the first place. Because they wanted to have a government that was different than what they grew up under. The process of giving the people a say in policy is all about giving people some measure of control over what types of laws are put into place. I'm going to ignore your comment over voting for the favorite color of M&M's since something like that wouldn't be up to vote in the same manner so the comparison is a bit absurd really. What you see as civil rights, in this case gay marriage, is something you and many others think shouldn't be decided by the vote of the people. Well so far the majority of the people don't see it as a civil right that they are entitled to. Yes it's a pain in the butt when the law can allow something like this to happen, but that doesn't change the fact that the process works. Like I said here:
Those layers of the system exist to protect us from unfair laws and sometimes, as history has proven, it takes time to work through it to get rid of laws that infringe on the rights of others. Yes it's a pain and yes it's annoying, but I'm sure that in time, the ban on same sex marriages will end up being a thing of the past.
All I was saying was that declarations of it's wrong because it's a right are useless (only in that right now, it isn't legally considered a right). Until someone takes the time to get through the higher processes like Allamorph mentioned, it is allowed. I don't agree with it, but I still support the general process of how states determine legislation. I wasn't saying I supported the actual law that banned the marriages. Anyway, like Nathan said, the more these laws are passed, the more it will prove that intervention above the state level will be necessary.

I just think you all are seeing the end you think is right, and I'm seeing the process that's necessary to get there.
Here I was all set to say, guys you're on the same track and you go and beat me to it. I have one response to that: ._. Anyway, as much as I think it was wrong to pass the law, I'm still in favor of letting states (and yes that means the people) have a hand in determining policy. Cutting people out of the equation would have an even greater potential to cause problems. Realistically, what if they passed that without a vote? That would be even more unfair and a misrepresentation of what the people want, something Korey already touched on. What I'm mainly getting at is you can't just arbitrarily turn around and say people shouldn't be allowed to vote on an issue because you say so.

Why did I know who was coming up next in this thread? Talk about brutal. Beating someone to death and then getting mobbed to death for killing someone. o_O It certainly paints a grim picture.

Well I do agree with the general consensus that it's wrong to deny others rights, but I have to wonder if everyone who voted for it, did so for religious reasons only. I find it hard to believe that only people citing religious beliefs that being gay is wrong would vote for such a thing. I mean I know a few people who to be blunt are homophobic (at least they seem that way to me). And some of them claim they are atheists so that just makes me wonder. o_O Anyway, I can't vote and I don't live in California so other than to think it's wrong to deny people rights based on sexual orientation, I haven't got much to say on it.
