Again, excellent post Gavin. Thank you again for your commitment to the RPG so far. I guess it's just Indi, Muse and myself left! -Shy
And now, it's just you and Muse, so get posting you two! Also, even though I didn't explicitly go into the details in my post, what Gavin said in his OOC [which was really a post due to it's sheer size] is exactly what happened. I saw no reason to respell that out when he already did so. So... in less than eight months, Harrison lost everyone in his immediate family other than Dwalish... Thanks a lot Gavin!

Naturally it was raining, a cold miserable drizzle that was just enough to soak everything. It flattened the dying vegetation to the ground in misshapen shapes that only served to enhance the sense of death that hovered around the family sepulcher at Rosengard. It was just as dismal if not more so than the last time Harrison had stood there with the rest of the family. When they had held the private service for Daedalus and Helen, a moment he would never forget? Harrison couldn?t forget even though part of him wished that he could. He no longer saw Rosengard as his home; in truth he had never seen it in that light. Once he had been old enough to understand or see how his father was never around or that his siblings were so estranged they may as well been strangers, he had desired to escape that life. There was no point in having material wealth if your life had no meaning. At the time it had all seem so hypocritical and in many ways it still did. However, for a brief time, Harrison had finally gotten what he had always wanted; something more than just a daily existence of wishing he was elsewhere. It hadn?t even lasted a week before that had been taken from him when his father had died in the battle over High Czenoble. But the madness had not stopped there; it had only escalated even further at Daedalus? funeral when Jacob had shown up drunk and out of his mind. Loudly saying things about their father and Helen that even if some of them were true, couldn?t take away from that brief glimpse that Harrison had gotten into how his father really felt. The events after that was something that even now, gave him pause if he dwelled on it too long. He shoved the memory aside, barely noticing that the rain was starting to ease up. It wouldn?t be long until it was replaced by snow. Harrison wouldn?t be around to see it this year, unless he was reassigned again. He doubted that would happen though. He was only here for a short time anyway, in just a little while he along with Dwalish would be heading back to where they were assigned. He shook his head a bit as he looked at the name on the tomb he was visiting. Mom had never quite been the same after that day, Harrison had known she was ill but it had never really sunk in just how little time she had left. He hadn?t even been there when she had passed on in her sleep since he had been with Dwalish for the past seven months. Or it was better to say that he was currently serving in Air-General Von Heisenberg?s 2nd Fleet that was patrolling Czenovia?s furthest western borders near the New Globe. He had been reassigned along with Dwalish about a month after their father?s funeral and Jacob?s death. Now, with Harriet?s death, he and Dwalish were the only ones left. On some level, it didn?t feel real. He hadn?t been here when Harriet passed on and pictures taken by Fauntleroy of her holding baby Daedalus only a week ago just added to the feeling that what he was experiencing was nothing more than some bizarre nightmare. He took small comfort in the fact that she had at least looked happy in the pictures. Harrison could hear footsteps approaching him from behind, reminding him that he had very little time left before he would need to go and join Dwalish who was probably waiting out in front of Rosengard for him. He did not bother to turn and see who it was; the faint sound of the steps telling him that it was probably Victoria Ann. Something that was confirmed when she stopped once she was standing next to him, staring at Harriet?s tomb. ?It?s almost time to go.? ?I know.? Harrison smiled sadly, wishing he could stay a little longer, though what for he didn?t know. Hanging around wouldn?t bring anyone back and other than Victoria Ann and a few others, he had no desire to be around any of them. ?Do you have to go back?? ?Yes.? Victoria Ann sighed. ?I wish you didn?t, besides,? She said with a tiny smirk. ?Even if you?re finally fifteen, you?re still too young to be in the military. I know, I checked.? ?You would.? Harrison chuckled in spite of himself. ?You?re still a nosy brat after all.? ?No, I?m smart.? She corrected him. Then both of them just stood there for a while in the rain that was finally starting to end, saying nothing until finally Victoria Ann spoke up again. ?You?d better write like you promised me you would.? ?Of course, I?ve already been doing that haven?t I?? Harrison pointed out. ?Well yeah,? Victoria Ann conceded, ?Just don?t get busy and forget.? ?I won?t.? Both of them turned at the sound of one of the servants coming out to tell Harrison that the carriage to pick up him and Dwalish had arrived. Once they were gone Harrison reached into his pocket for the little package he had put there so he wouldn?t forget. Before he could change his mind he pulled it out and pressed it into Victoria Ann?s hands. She gave him an odd look, frowning slightly. ?What is this for?? ?It?s your birthday next week and I won?t be here to give it to you.? Victoria Ann just looked at him her mouth opening into a little o as understanding dawned on her small face. Then, to his embarrassment, she threw herself at him, hugging him tightly while thanking him at the same time. ?Whoa, it?s nothing to get excited over brat.? Victoria Ann pulled back and mock glared at him, a bit of a smile gracing her face. ?Of course it is. It?s the first time you remembered on your own.? She tried to keep her face straight and failed, beaming widely as she tucked the package into her pocket. ?I?m riding with you and Dwalish to the aerodrome.? She declared in a voice that indicated there would be no argument. Harrison opened his mouth, intending to object and then shrugged. ?If you really want to, that?s fine by me.? After all, it wouldn?t really hurt anything.

Does anyone believe in love at first sight???
Horendithas replied to Lunar's topic in General Discussion
First of all... *ignores Allamorph*
Look, I don't want to get all mushy here, and believe me, I'm not an avodcate for romance novels, but, i was wondering if anyone still believes you can love some one as soon as you see them. What do i say? heck no!!! that person so can be so ultra cute but be a psycho who chops you up into pieces and eats you if you leave him (or her for you guys out there). that's kinda crazy, but what do you think those scary movies come from, huh? you don't know someone until you spend time with them. period.:animeangr
Someone who is laughing at gullible people who actually think it's based on a true story. I know I'm laughing. :p Anyway, connection or not, thinking you are in love with someone you've just met is short sighted. Saying that you fell in love from the moment you first met is in my opinion merely looking back at the moment through rose colored glasses. Now Lust at first sight, followed by attraction and then attachment, that I can see. -

The site is completely useless.
That's what I was thinking, or rather wondering if it was accurate or not. Amusing for a laugh, but not much else.

I can't really say one is better since it's so dependent on what one actually likes to play. I could say that Adventure/RPG games are the best, but that's only based on what I prefer since I find Battle/Fighting/Racing games boring. So sure I think Adventure/RPG games are the best, but again, that's what I like to play. I'd rather not go into why since that's kind of pointless really.
QFT Battle, fighting and racing games bore me to no end. I'm not interested in unlocking moves or tracks for racing. I'm picky about what Adventure or RPG games I'll play though. Take Final Fantasy, some of them certainly don't live up to what I expect in a game. Like FF XII, any game that requires six plus hours for about five minutes of actual story is a dud in my opinion. Also CrimsonKnight the next time you don't know what something is, just use google to look it up. Or use Wiki [RPG] since often it will at least give you the general idea.

Unless there're things other people want to hit also.
Not anymore. :p
Sarvel is saying that she's definitely picking up on how much the human method of building and living contaminates the Earth. She most definitely does not like it and if not for being a familiar, she would not stay in the city at all. It also raises the question of whether or not other elementals, if any are even left on Earth, are severely affected by the changes in the environment. I am getting the impression that because of being a familiar, on some level Sarvel is now immune to the effects that would have, but if an elemental was still on Earth and not a familiar to a Shinigami... I get the feeling that it would not be able to live in the city at all without the contamination affecting them adversely.
I already figured that was the case since other species have either been wiped out by wars or died out when their habitat was destroyed. So it would make sense that a familiar like Sarvel would be able to detect such a thing. Just as it is understandable that becoming a Shinigami's familiar would give her immunity to the effects. It's probably similar to how they gain eternal life as well.

The Other Side Normally a Shinigami did not require sleep, their bodies in tune with the spiritual energy needed to keep them in top form, making sleep unnecessary. It didn?t mean that they couldn?t be pushed beyond even their own ability to sustain awareness. Something Adrian had found out after the battle with the Count, he had literally been unable to stay awake. And now, after two grueling workouts with Karl nearly back to back, he was finding that he may as well sleep since he was too tired, sore and worn out to do anything else. He had still fought it until Astera had given him the equivalent of a mental whack, practically ordering him to rest. When he got back up a few hours later he had been surprised to realize that Gavrie was gone. Adrian was wondering where he could have gone when Astera came sailing into the room. -Karl is waiting for you outside.- -Where is Gavrie?- Astera shrugged. ?I don?t know. He left after speaking briefly with Karl.- ?Lovely,? Adrian growled as he headed down the hallway into the small kitchen like area before heading out to where Karl was waiting, already in his human form. Astera followed along, taking a seat on one of the wooden posts for the fence. ?It took you long enough to wake up.? Karl observed as Adrian entered the training area. Adrian ignored the jab, ?Where did Gavrie go?? ?It doesn?t matter.? Karl dodged the question. ?He?ll be back in a few weeks - or longer.? ?You?re just so informative.? ?Glad to hear it.? Karl smirked a bit. ?Are you always this helpful?? Adrian couldn?t quite keep the sarcasm out of his voice. ?Of course,? Karl shot back. ?Now, if you?re done playing twenty - questions - that - won?t - get - answered. You?ve got a lot of work to do.? Adrian didn?t bother to ask Astera again, unlike Karl or anyone else he talked to, he would have known if she was hiding anything from him. And realistically, she had no reason to hold anything back. He still wondered where Gavrie had gone though. If only so he?d have a better idea of how long he would be stuck working with Karl. ?Now, stop looking stupid and let?s get started.? Adrian crushed the wave of irritation that threatened to surface and moved to do as he was told. ------------------------- It had been a while since his last trip to Earth and this time was no different as he slipped through the gate that had been prepared for his trip. Just as he was irritated at the assignment, he was also curious to see what changes had been made since his last visit. Gavrie made a mental note to make sure he checked out some of the teas he enjoyed before heading back. It had been too long since he had done that himself instead of relying on others to acquire it for him. Then, other than to take note of the fact that he had appeared between two very tall buildings in the middle of a large bustling city, Gavrie ignored his surroundings in favor of pulling out his cell phone to check something. Satisfied with what he read, he closed it and pocketed the device before heading south. He slipped into an invisible state while carefully wrapping his aura tightly about him.

I'm bored, so... why not? 1. If you believe in God, why do you believe? I do not believe. 2. Why do you think others believe in God? In all honesty, I really don't care why someone believes in God, nor do I find attempting to guess why all that productive. Unless you're talking about forced belief, in that case it's usually some outside factor or influence. 3. The most popular conflict between faith and reason is usually on the evolution/creationism controversy. What’s your take on the issue? Can science be compatible with belief? Do you accept evolutionary theory? Since when was belief only central to faith and religion? All science starts with belief/faith. Belief/faith that things make sense and are explainable. Belief/faith that a concept or idea is correct. Once the idea or concept is disproven or proven, that belief/faith is replaced with knowledge and the process starts all over again with the next thing you want to understand or make sense of. So... which one do I accept? The one that has the most knowledge of course. 4. What do you think are the most compelling arguments to not believe in God? Or, what do you think are the greatest challenges to peoples’ faith. I'm not interested in arguing why someone should not believe. But one of the biggest challenges is the lack of scientific proof... in my opinion. The believers are almost always left falling back on the "I just believe" argument/explanation. for instance; some people think the existence of evil, in light of an all-powerful, all-good God, is a tough question that theologians don’t have a clear answer to and may lead people to non-belief People confuse evil with religion thinking it's applicable to that alone. Evil is nothing more than the word live spelled backwards. It is the opposite of what is living, whether it's physically or mentally in the sense of having one's will or liveliness crushed. Everything dies, evil is natural and people seem to have some odd idea that it shouldn't exist in this world. Morally you could claim evil is wrong, but on some level, it's a part of life and has nothing to do with religion at all. You could turn around and say there are people who are evil since they deliberately crush or kill others, and by evil it's usually killing that is not necessary for one's survival... but it is still not wholly a religious concept and that's what I often see people failing to grasp. If someone like God did exist and removed "evil" as it were... :p 5. Do you think there is such thing as “reasonable faith”? Or, do you think they are in conflict? I have only one thing to say about that... lolwut?!? 6. Lastly, if you believe in God. What evidence do you have in favor of your belief? Does not apply.

Best part of the entire thing is this:
Dear Lawyer Guy. Enclosed is a check for six hundred dollars. That ought to be enough to cover some groceries and maybe rent for the month. Or blow it on video games or something. I don?t care. Sincerely, Raiha P.S.: This is what you get for trying a case without first negotiating a price. I suggest you get a new client pronto.
That fits Raiha's personality rather well actually. Not calling him by name, being indifferent as to what he spends the money on since it's such a small sum... It's like she's saying you sucked... ta-ta! *laughs*

I thought of Gavin when I came across this joke... so with that in mind... Proof positive that Jesus was Irish:
1) He lived at home until he was 30. 2) The night before he died, he went out drinking with his buddies. 3) His mother thought he was God. 4) He thought his mother was a virgin.
And for more jokes that could be considered sexist... Why do men like BMWs?
They can spell it.

-

A (real) question: would it be okay for me to play as a tour guide of sorts? Or perhaps one of the "ship hostesses", who'd be part of the crew but in charge of introducing the passengers to all the things the ship has to offer? That'd give my character a motive to familiarize herself with any character necessary.
That would fall under this section: Hospitality: The crew responsible for seeing to the guests comforts. Possible positions could be in food, housekeeping and entertainment. Someone who gave tours of the ship would be one possible reason for someone being on board in that capacity. So if you want to play someone who conducts tours of the ship during the voyage, go right ahead. James and I already talked about the option of people getting tours of say the bridge since normally they would not be allowed access to it.
-

What Officer positions are there on the ship? Or should we just make our own up? (I bet this has already been stated somewhere and I've missed it XD )
Aside from what's already been posted in the sign ups. The only ones that are closed to players is that of the Captain of the ship and the example one in James' first post. Beyond that you're free to make things up, just as Malkav posted to be Chief of Security, and inwardscream posted to be the lead medical officer. So you can create just about anything you want. You might want to keep in mind what others have already signed up for since obviously there's only going to be one Chief of Security, but that doesn't mean you couldn't be the Chief of Engineering or even the Captain's second in command.
1. I never said that he ignored him. People are going off of the assumption that Obama believes what wright says when every other bit of evidence points to the contrary. 2. Again, assumptions that he agrees with him. 3. Opinions don't require support. Intelligent people support their opinions with facts. A baseless opinion isn't something to be proud of. 4. And then, with my entire life open to media scrutiny, they'd readjust their opinion to how I truly am. 5. it's pretty pointless to argue a point and then end it with "That other guy won't even talk about me!" Which obama does. 6. I didn't say it wasn't their right, I was just commenting on the immaturity present in someone that only associates with people they agree with and shuns others. 7. Bringing up legitimate fallacies in statements is not trolling. 8. I'm saying in the context of this debate, having a baseless opinion isn't going to get you anywhere. By all means have these opinions, but don't expect them to hold up to any form of scrutiny.
1. People still have the right to form assumptions and whether or not you agree with the method is irrelevant. 2. Opinions do not require fact to back them and not doing so does not say anything about their intelligence or lack of. 4. Not associating with others based on political beliefs has nothing to do with maturity, it's a personal preference and some prefer to associate with people who have similar views. 5. People don't need you to point out what you think is an illogical fallacy in their statements. 6. This thread is not meant to be taken as a person requires in depth statements as to why they are choosing to vote a certain way. Finally: You are trolling, so kindly knock it off please. I'd rather NOT close this thread when you've been around long enough to know better.

And that will be enough of that children. I'm looking mostly at you taperson & Drizzt Do'urden. And CrimsonKnight, don't go telling other people they suck, it's rude and unnecessary, the report bad post function is there for a reason. Crew Member Name: Jefferson T. Wells personal security for the duration of the trip. Very little is known about Jeff, other than the very basic information of his qualifications in his field as he is often seen providing security for top executives in both NARA as well as NARSIA. Calm, collected and seemingly utterly serious Jeff is very dedicated to seeing to the safety of whoever he is currently assigned to protect. It was for these qualities that he was chosen for the position, though like all citizens even he is not immune to the thrill of being one of the first to take the historic voyage into space.

Writing Aaryanna_Mom vs. Treble [Poetry Contest]
Horendithas replied to Sabrina's topic in Creative Works
Kathy, your poem not only explained why Treble should win, but it held a bit of what you are in it, making it very fitting. Treble, though I think your poem is a little better written, I also think it's a bit off in that it seems geared towards mothers instead of just one person. And though I like both, I must choose only one, my vote goes to Kathy. -
Writing Allamorph vs. Raiha [Poetry Contest]
Horendithas replied to Sabrina's topic in Creative Works
Raiha you have a wonderful consistency to your poem, telling everyone just why they should be voting for Allamorph. Allamorph, as others have said, what strikes me the most about your poem is the variation, it's so very fitting for Raiha and brought a smile to my face when I read it. My vote for this round goes to Allamorph. -
Raiha taking a lion to the theater? Now that is something I can easily see her doing. Anyone who objected would merely get a look from her that plainly said they were an idiot for even considering it odd. Heh. Good start there Aceburner, it will be interesting to see how or if Raiha manages to weasel her way out of this one.

Writing Another random OB Member fanfic? Yes Please!
Horendithas replied to The Spectacular Professor's topic in Creative Works

Okay, so I've been mulling this over all day. I was thinking about it when Crystia IM'd me, so I pitched the idea. She thought it was good, so by golly, I'm gonna do it!
Exactly, because as Rach put it here:
Anyway, sounds like a fun idea, because OB fanfiction needs something besides drama, killing, melodramatic fights and the usual self gratification (and no you don't need me to explain that, seriously) that seems to be the norm.
Something different in this genre, for lack of a better word when referring to OtakuBoards fanfiction, is sorely needed. I have no suggestion or desire to have any part in this because as Sabrina put it - others deserve the spotlight instead of the same old venue of -- this person is the killer because they have been so many times in the past. I've read more than enough stories where you are the killer Raiha, try being a member of the audience for once. We need new faces people, not rehashing of the old ones. Which is why I desire no part in the actual story, but I will if you wish it Aceburner, offer up any advice if you care to run ideas by me. -
