2. Some education if you will: Lolita (1955) is a novel by Vladimir Nabokov. The novel was first written in English and published in 1955 in Paris, later translated by the author into Russian and published in 1967 in New York. The novel is both internationally famous for its innovative style and infamous for its controversial subject: the book's narrator and protagonist Humbert Humbert becoming sexually obsessed with a twelve-year-old girl named Dolores Haze. After its publication, the novel attained a classic status, becoming one of the best known and most controversial examples of 20th century literature. The name "Lolita" has entered pop culture to describe a sexually precocious young girl. 3. Recollections of... Gavrie couldn?t help but grin widely at Adrian?s stunned expression. Having him come out and stumble upon them sparring would be far more effective than him insisting on it. Plus, the two of them had been using full speed; well full speed without any of the various tricks and techniques one could employ to alter that. Just as he had his own tricks to increase his speed or to counter someone moving quicker if needed, he was sure that Nathan did as well. As he watched Adrian stiffen at the comments indicating he had never seen a real fight; Gavrie was already sorry that the spar was over. He calmly watched as Adrian beat a hasty retreat back into the house, and resisted the urge to sigh a little. Nathan was right, he hadn't had a decent workout in a long time. There were special training sessions he was required to attend to, but much like training new Reapers, it was hardly a challenge at all. At least not for someone like him. And lucky shot or not with that last hit, that particular technique probably hadn't been needed or even used in centuries; if not longer. Much like his spiritual blades, one did not waste the energy on a technique if it was not needed. Though in that case, he had just been showing off a little, in response to Nathan's trick with his scythe. I wonder, he thought as he turned to look at Nathan. ?Care for some tea before you head back? I?ve got Earl Gray and Green tea.? Not that he needed it, but Gavrie liked the stuff and usually had some a couple times a day. He had picked up the habit from some of his trips to Earth, something that Karl would just sigh and shake his head over. He was wondering if Nathan would even like it when he answered. "Earl Gray. Hot." "This way then." He lead the way back into the house, heading straight for the little niche he had just for making the stuff, but not before seeing to offering Nathan a seat in the little version of a kitchen he had set up, the sliding doors open to the back yard of his place. It took him very little time to make some for both of them and then the two of them were engaging in small talk. Moving from deceptively simple topics until it finally moved to a discussion of what had been going on in the world of the Shinigami in the past couple of centuries. To Gavrie it seemed as if Nathan had been on the outside for quite some time and thusly out of the loop as far as current events went. It wasn't so much in words but rather the careful way Nathan had of probing around different aspects of their way of life. And since he saw no harm in it, he obliged him, taking care to elaborate more than was necessary, making sure he got a clear picture of what was going on, including any rumors running around. Though he took care that Nathan knew what information was rumor and which was fact. Regretfully the conversation started coming to a close, something else he realized he missed almost as much as sparring with someone who was as good as Nathan. It wasn't often he got to talk to someone who's thought process was as sharp as his fighting skills. Sure he often worked with Council members, but some of them had been sitting behind a desk for far to long. Smart yes, but the wit and senses dulled in many ways. "You're welcome to stop by again if you're ever in the area," Gavrie offered in parting as Nathan and he made their way to the front of his dwelling. He grinned. "I might even be willing to expand on that lucky shot of yours." Nathan just smiled faintly in return, "I'll hold you to that." And then, he was gone, heading back along the path he and Adrian and Astera had used when they arrived. "You like him." It was a statement of fact, an observation. Gavrie just gave Karl a long measuring glance before he finally answered it. "Maybe." Karl just snorted and then settled down on Gavrie's shoulders once he had taken a seat. He lazily stretched a bit before he mischievously quipped again, getting the last word in like he was fond of doing. Something Gavrie was well acquainted with. "No maybe about it." Gavrie said nothing as he merely watched the landscape in front of his house, his mind on all the unanswered questions he had on account of the visit. It was going to require some careful prying on his part, not in regards to Nathan himself, but a few other things that were now troubling him. He was going to need to take a leave, he was due one after all. He hadn't taken one in centuries, but now, he was going to need the time, for more than training Adrian and Astera. Though training those two, especially Adrian would take up the bulk of his time, it meant he was going to have to come up with a reason for them to even allow it in the first place. It was one thing to sneak in training sessions every now and then, but to take over in a full out dive into tactics and other techniques? That was another story altogether as such a thing would not go unnoticed. He smiled to himself since the answer was clear. It would satisfy the idiots in charge and yet keep things from being too complicated. That was the last thing Adrian and Astera needed after all, more complications. I should get that taken care of while those two heal. Though he stayed put on the porch for the moment, still musing over the other things on his mind. The day was still young.
 4. The only thing I like this look for is for dress costume parties. Especially Halloween. It just doesn't seem to fit everyday wear. But that's because I never see it around here. It is fun to wear though and when I'm not foolishly allowing my friends to lighten my hair to brown... my black hair goes really well with it.

By a talking to on AIM, I was referring to me and him just laughing about it. So he was just pulling my chain, no need to worry. Besides if he wanted to tell me my music sucks, he'd do it on AIM, not like he hasn't already.!
And I still maintain that that kind of joking stays in AIM, Don't forget that for a lot of new members that looks like tasteless bashing of another member. It looks like immature bashing to established members... My stance is the same. I expect that kind of crap to stay in AIM, not out in the thread. Remember Prem, you're not the one who gets to field the complaints over tasteless comments like that. I am. And DB knows better. So keep the chain pulling of that nature where it belongs, out of the thread. And since I'm here again, I'm back on Nightwish again since my play list is on random. I'm currently listening to Dark Chest of Wonders. It seems like no matter how many times I listen to it, I still love it.
 6. And here I'm reading stuff that's not exactly for fun and yet still interesting. What I'm currently reading, beyond what I'm required to read for school, is People of the Lie by M. Scott Peck. Basically in the book Peck describes the stories of several people who came to him (since he's a psychiatrist) whom he found particularly resistant to any form of help. He came to think of them as evil and goes on to describe the characteristics of evil in psychological terms, proposing that it could become a psychiatric diagnosis. It's a bit heavy and yet interesting to read just the same. Now I need to read something light and just for fun next though.

 11. Jared was unfazed by the punishment and the repeat beatings he was subjected to, his laugh and grin upon the treatment merely serving to irritate those who were holding him prisoner. He could have made the effort to appear suitably subdued but the whole thing just made him laugh inwardly. Compared to Commander Alan and himself, those who had captured him were amateurs. And their expressions of near rage over having to restrain themselves least they kill him was supremely amusing. Just as their obvious fear of him was as well, the way they cautiously made sure to half stun him before doing anything was highly entertaining. They were such cowards really, and if he got the chance, he would enjoy taking each and every one of them apart, piece by piece. Jared sighed slightly when the door to the tiny cell opened and he was once again hit with a light stun blast. This time though, he was surprised by being dragged out of the cell and placed in a type of long narrow container. Even in his half stunned state he recognized what they were putting him in before closing the lid, the locks snapping into place with an audible hum. It was something used by smugglers who trafficked in illegal slavery, inside it had what was needed to keep him from suffocating along with the necessary shielding to keep any checkpoints from realizing what was really inside. They were often used to fool standard checks and the fact that they hadn?t bothered to drug him meant his destination couldn?t be that far off. Probably a ship in orbit around the main world in sector one. It did make him wonder why they were going to such lengths to move him though. Just what in the world was Commodore Nazar up to? It made no sense in his mind as his initial investigation was not something that would have been known. He had only begun, and heading down to pick up David Barak had been his first move. Had he stumbled into something else? After all, he did have quite a few enemies. Had someone seen him and simply taken advantage of the opportunity? It was a question that was foremost on his mind since he was certain that if Commodore Nazar had indeed allowed the Intrepid to go down, then killing him would have been a better option. He would not have bothered to capture him. Jared did not bother to attempt to break free of the compartment he was in. He had done enough investigations to know that any attempt on his part would be a waste of time. He simply didn?t have the means to break free and he doubted that it would be faulty. Whoever was in charge would have made sure that it was checked before they even came to get him. He would have to simply wait for when he was finally released, even if it would mostly likely be to the inside of another cell in a ship. It was a pity he had no means to send out a signal to anyone. It felt like an eternity before the container was put in an up right position and the sound of the locks being released could be heard. The lid swung open and harsh light flooded the space, causing him to close his eyes tightly and then stumble to his knees. Before he could react the sound of a disruptor going off was heard and he was once again stunned lightly, falling to the floor on his face, barely conscious. It still had him snickering a bit, to see how afraid of him they were. But he could not have predicted what he would hear next over the sounds of the container being dragged away. ?Would you stop that!?? It was a woman?s voice, her tone one of irritation. ?I swear, you?re so damn trigger happy. He can?t even stand so why the hell did you stun him?? ?You do know who this is right?? This time it was a man?s voice, one he recognized as being from the group who had captured him to begin with. ?Oh good grief you idiotic morons! Of course we know what our cargo is!? This voice though female sounded odd and Jared couldn?t quite place what was wrong with it. It just sounded odd to him. ?Would you get these cretins off of my ship already?!? The voice demanded, sounding angry and exasperated all in one. Oddly, Jared found himself actually liking whoever they were, he tried to shift so he could see but found that he couldn?t move yet. ?You heard her, you?re done fools.? It was the first woman?s voice again and then over the sound of footsteps as they all left, he caught just a little more before the door to his new cell closed behind the woman as she sighed. ?Now I just need to figure out what to do with our other visitor.? ?Well duh,? the other one laughed. ?I can?t imagine Stevens would be pleased.? And then the door was shut and he could hear nothing else. With a bit of an inward sigh, he tried to focus on shaking off the effects of the light stun he had gotten so he could see where the hell he was, even if it was likely to tell him nothing. In a way, he was curious to find why he had been snatched in the first place. If he was going to die, that was the one thing he wanted to know first, who was behind it and why.

 17. Harrison had finally been sent to his quarters for the day, Dwalish was still gone, and other than before dinner, he had not seen his father at all. Though he imagined that with being the Air-General for the fleet, it was unlikely that his day was over. Though it was semi-similar for Harrison as well since once he got cleaned up he was taking advantage of the free time before bed to read up on what Dwalish had started him on the other day. Even if he had been down in High Czenoble, Harrison doubted he?d take that as an excuse for him to have done nothing. And even if the spars with both him and his dad were enjoyable, getting clobbered was not. He was still a little sore from the last whack Dwalish had delivered, and getting hit again? That was an experience he was not eager to repeat. Once he had gotten far enough that his mind was starting to wander, Harrison finally got up with a stretch and froze when the unmistakable sound of being called to battle stations was heard. What? Battle stations? Here? Is it some sort of drill? There can?t possibly be a battle over High Czenoble, can there? He shook off the thoughts and got back into full uniform, taking a moment to strap on his standard issue sword. He did not have anything else yet, on account of being required to be trained and cleared first. Which was fine by him, other than a few times, he had never used any type of firearm anyway. He hadn?t gotten that far out of his quarters to head for the bridge when he ran into his training instructor, Sergeant Garett. Who to his surprise was actually looking for him. ?There you are,? He sounded satisfied. ?Colonel Almagest is on his way back from High Czenoble and I?ve gotten leave for having you help out with a few things before the Underdogs Fleet arrives.? ?Yes sir.? Harrison didn?t know what he had in mind, but it was his job to do as told, even if it seemed to be contrary to what he should be doing. But at the same time, he didn?t know enough to determine just what his duties really entailed beyond being Dwalish?s aide. But Garett?s quick explanation was easy enough to follow and he was off to the different departments to do as told. It wasn?t much different than the errands he had been sent on by Dwalish, though sometimes the messages he was given made no sense to him. But those he gave them to merely looked satisfied and Harrison noticed that he was not the only one running around doing similar tasks. It took very little time for him to finish up and then make his way to the bridge for whatever Dwalish would have for him to do, by now it was likely that he was back on board. Harrison had seen others arriving and hurrying to their positions on the ship. He was closer to the back of the ship when something struck, causing the entire ship to shudder from the impact. The force of whatever it was causing the lights of the corridor he was in to flicker and he stumbled and fell into the wall, hard. What the hell was that?!? He wondered as he straightened back up, his heart pounding a bit from being startled. A hint of fear ran through his mind as his imagination ran a bit wild as it attempted to determine just what was powerful enough to affect the Sentinel like that. Not wanting to look like a fool, he hurried to the bridge, taking care to avoid running. Just as he did his best to not stare or cringe at the sight of injured personnel being taken to the medical bay. He couldn?t help but cringe inwardly at the thought of actually being in a battle. How the hell had this happened? He hadn?t even barely been on board for two days, he didn?t have any real training other than those sword lessons at Chaos. Hell, he was four years too young to even enlist! He was so rattled that when he was almost to the bridge he nearly ran into Daedalus who was going the opposite direction, his demeanor quiet and almost grim. ?Sorry Dad,? He apologized as he moved out of the way, forgetting protocol in his rattled state of mind, something that Daedalus seemed to pick up on as he didn?t even bother to correct him. Instead he reached out with his right hand, grasping his shoulder. ?Go wait with Dwalish and stay safe Harrison.? And then he let go and continued on his way, saying nothing else. Puzzled, Harrison just stood there, watching his father leave until he found himself moving to follow him instead of going to the bridge like he was suppose to. He wasn?t entirely sure why he felt the urge to do so, he just did. The thought that he was disobeying a direct order never crossed his mind. He couldn?t shake an uneasy feeling that had settled in his stomach as all sorts of alarms went off in his mind. He kept back, shadowing his father, staying out of sight, or so he thought. When Daedalus arrived at one of the many bays for launching ships, he stopped at the door and sighed before turning around. Harrison was out of his line of sight, but it didn?t matter. ?You can stop sneaking around and come out Harrison.? He ordered. Embarrassed, Harrison did so, moving over until he was facing him from a few feet apart, looking down at his feet a bit. ?Sorry.? Daedalus just chuckled a bit, causing Harrison to look up at him in astonishment. ?It?s alright, just be sure you get to the bridge once I?m gone.? ?Okay.? ?Never forget Harrison that I love you and that I?m very proud of you.? What? But Daedalus was already on his way to one of the fighter ships docked in the massive bay, leaving Harrison standing there at the entrance, watching him as he got into the vessel. Why is he leaving the ship? But it was too late to ask him, he had been too startled by what he said and by the time the thought crossed his mind, the hatch to the ship had already been secured. Harrison knew better than to attempt to go over essentially knock on the door. Unlike other fighters for the Sentinel, this craft was for the Air-General of the fleet, easily far more powerful and sleek. There just wasn?t any comparison really. Harrison didn?t know the full details, but even to his untrained eye it was impressive. A moment later and the sounds of the engine being fired up could be heard, a deep and powerful rumble that made the deck vibrate, something Harrison could feel through the soles of his shoes. And then, with a powerful roar and a backlash of air that tossed his hair about and forced him to squint to protect his eyes and the ship was gone as it was flawlessly launched from the bay. For the longest time Harrison just stood there, staring at where the ship had been. He didn?t know how long it was before he finally turned and left for the bridge. By now Dwalish had to be wondering where he was. Oh hell! He?s going to clobber me for sure!
100
Harrison didn?t get too far before he was startled by what seemed to be something else hitting the ship, though it didn?t seem as powerful as what he had felt earlier. Now what? The sound of gunfire echoing through the corridors caused him to freeze in panic. Gunfire?!? How did someone get on board? Without fully understanding why, when he heard the sound of people coming towards his location, he ducked into the closest door leading into another one of the bays of the ship. The sight was rather startling to say the least as the smaller fighters were scattered across the bay and debris was all over the place. When the doors to the place opened, he was over to the right and partially behind one of the scattered fighters. Once again he froze in place; then moved further out of sight upon realizing that the small group of people who had entered couldn?t possibly be members of the Sentinel. Their clothing and arms not standard military issue. All of them older, and moving with the same sureness that he had grown accustomed to seeing among those who had been on the Sentinel for some time. Ice crawled up Harrison?s spine, making him feel sick, his hand clutching the hilt of his sword tightly. All they have to do is search and they?ll find me - and even if they don?t, if I try to fight them, I?ll die. Oh, gods, I can't challenge them! They can?t expect it of me - I?m no match for any of them! But the group was more interested in one of the less damaged gunboats and other than the occasional hint of their voice, he couldn?t see them anymore. Instead he stayed hidden, struggling with deciding on what he should do, and the sounds of what seemed like even more people arriving didn?t help his state of mind. He was wondering what he should do when of all people he saw Jack Deacon taking a seat not far from where he was hiding. Harrison couldn?t decide which was more startling, seeing him on the Sentinel or the fact that he seemed to have an autogun arm, something he was sure he would have remembered from the last time he saw him. When did he get that? But more importantly, seeing him there gave him no choice, Jack was a wanted man and as a member of the military he was duty bound to attempt to bring him to justice. He couldn?t keep hiding, hoping no one would see him, there was no point in even bothering to serve if one was too afraid to act. Harrison took a deep breath and let it out in an attempt to steady himself, pulling his sword free as quietly as possible. He would only get one chance, the element of surprise working in his favor. It would do him no good against the others, but here against Jack? Why did he have to come here? Hell! And then before he could change his mind he attacked. But he had never raised a sword against someone with the intent to kill, he cringed, closing his eyes without meaning to. His right foot hit what had to be debris on the floor and he stumbled slightly. Harrison opened his eyes when the sword struck and Jack yelped in pain. He was surprised to realize that he had hit him in the leg instead of his chest like he had intended. His breath caught in his throat and his heart started pounding even faster. He blanched in fear when Jack?s eyes met his, their expression something Harrison had never seen before. His mind froze, but his body did not as the swordsmanship training he had gotten from Chaos took over. Telling his body what to do as his mind was lost in the anxiety of the situation. With a hasty jerk he pulled the sword free, stepping back one pace and then raised the sword, bringing it down with all his strength where Jack was sitting. He had but one thought running through his mind, to stop him before he could bring his autogun arm to bear. Jack merely rolled off the crate he had been sitting on, avoid the blow altogether, coming back to his feet in a quick fluid motion. ?Knock it off kid.? He growled at him, but Harrison wasn?t listening, having already pulled the sword free from where it hit, immediately moving to cut yet again. But Jack just avoided his blows, sidestepping them and then snatching what looked like a section of a metal pipe from one of the railings for the platforms where the fighters normally were nestled, waiting to be launched at need. A tiny part of Harrison?s mind wondered why Jack was blocking his attacks with the pipe as if it was a makeshift sword, just as it also wondered why the others hadn?t interfered yet. But then the thought was lost as he focused on defending as now Jack was pressing the advantage, his skill with a sword like weapon clearly more than what Harrison had learned. A hard downward strike nearly ripped the sword from his hands, but the effort to hang onto it gave Jack the opening he needed to move in to deliver another quick blow from the side. This time the force of the blade being struck from the side forced it out of Harrison?s hands and with a loud clatter it went skittering across the bay before finally coming to a halt when it hit another damaged fighter. Shit! Hastily he turned, backpedaling as he did so, intending to attempt to retrieve it. Jack was too quick, closing the gap and swinging hard at Harrison?s half turned back. The force of the stunning blow from the pipe as it hit him across the back and the back of his head knocked him to the floor. Harrison landed hard, dazed from the blow. He was sprawled half on his back, too stunned to attempt to get up. So. This is what it comes to. This is how it ends. He thought as he heard the sound of Jack?s footsteps on the deck as he approached where he was lying. And strangely, he felt like laughing. At least I put up some kind of a fight. Time seemed to stand still and he found himself oddly conscious of little things, of his ankle bending the wrong way, of a bit of debris that was digging in his cheek, of a strand of hair in his eyes. And then Jack was standing over him, looking far from amused. But what he did next was not what Harrison expected. He simply reached over and with both hands - grabbed the front of his uniform and hauled him to his feet. ?I told you to knock it off you stupid little brat!?
 18.
Yeesh, and here I wondered why Crys was showing off her Nightwish obsession to everyone.
Blame Allamorph, he got me started on it. :p Anyway, right now I'm on this: Haddaway - What Is Love From Movie Night In Roxbury Nick It's much more fun in the context of that movie though. That show is so painfully stupid you can't help but laugh at it. Heh. This clip with Jim Carrey A night at Roxbury is the funniest though.
 19. What I always do on Sundays, pretty much nothing. Other than relaxing, listening to music, playing video games and sometimes homework if I really need to. I'm not religious so I don't go to church. And I don't get any easter goodies either. It's honestly just another Sunday for me.
 20.
Anyway, guys, try to watch your image sizes: the thread layout is crying a wee bit. ~Dagger~
You heard her people, I fixed it this time, but from now on, start using links for those larger pictures. Or resizing them first so you're not stretching the layout of the thread.
 21.
All right, you amusing little Raiha lackeys, settle down. I'm sure your mistress can handle a little bonk every once in a while without needing her devoted minions to rush to her aid. :D
You beat me to it. :p Though I was going to refer to the tell me what you want and I'll do it part of the first post of this very thread. *laughs* In addition to the rest, but you covered that rather well so I won't bother to rehash it. Instead I'm going to give you a new request as well, one in response to Gavin's desire to see me dead. It's simple, my request is that Gavin dies at Desbreko's hands for killing one of his fangirls. My only main requests is that Desbreko is using a sword much like the master sword for Link and that Gavin's death is suitably painful. Being slowly slashed to ribbons works. The actual setting can be whatever you like as I'm not picky on that account.
 22.
To me, Nightwish needs those amazing operatic vocals. Like I said, it's just not the same.
And being what one would consider a more recent fan and thus starting with Dark Passion Play, I don't see it that way since my first exposure was to their new singer instead of the other one. So I like both of them. Anyway, Nightwish is not what I'm listening to right now anyway, I got into a different mood altogether and moved to lighter rock music, older stuff at that. I've got my Peter Cetera greatest hits disk in and it's currently on Glory of Love. I always did like his voice though so I can on some level understand your disappointment with Nightwish. When I got to stuff where Peter Cetera had left Chicago, it just wasn't the same. I liked his voice, not the others.
 23. This thread needs a revival... I blame Des since he showed me this image from Hatenkou Yugi and I just had to share it. Heh.
 24.
Jesus, do you want this to suck or what? As we all know, the last time I actually studied tactics was when I was getting my head shot off playing some...FPS...some...where. And besides, considering the pending requests, it's not stuffiness. It's more a desire to NOT SUCK.
Suck it up then and do some research and stretch that writing ability of yours. :p
Well, actually, the way I see it is that it's not exercising what she "already knows how to do," rather she's exercising what she's able to see herself writing. There are some things people can imagine in their minds and some things people can't; Raiha's case is that mechas aren't included in her imagination. As far as "practice" goes, it's not a matter of weak or strong areas. I find that it is a matter of how Raiha can portray a certain imagery through usage of rhetorics, detail, and such.
Oh so wrong in so many ways Rev. The mark of a good writer is that you can write. Not that you can only write certain things. There's no such thing as being incapable of imagining things. Especially when there's already a ton of materials online that one can use as a reference to help one get the details for a visual for a request like this. So really the only thing stopping Raiha from doing this is herself and no one else. And it's not a reflection or has anything to do with her current writing abilities so there's no need to defend that. If it's something that doesn't interest her, and I can see why because writing in a fashion you are not familiar with is a thousand times harder than sticking to what you know, then hey, it doesn't interest you. But don't attempt to make it out as if she's not capable, because she is. And so what if it sucks a bit? That's what a place like this is all about, posting for feedback, not sitting there and looking pretty from the get go.
 25.
Wait... you have a pet name Crystia? *laughs uncontrollably*
*thwack* Brat. Anyway, as for the references, I do have some of the anime they are alluding to. So you might find it fun to watch some of those shows to give it more meaning. Well once you're done watching Lucky Star that is. Heh.
