Brianna was reviewing everyone who had been selected in her mind, she had no doubts that they were indeed qualified, but she was far from pleased at the dispersement of military involvement. She had been assured that it would be well balanced and yet in her opinion it was not. Brianna had no objections to Colonel Marcus DeSouza since it had been made clear that the project would have someone in charge of any security and other aspects of the project that would fall under the military's jurisdiction. Nor did she have a problem with the three officers who would be directly under his command, Lt. Morrison Vayne, Major Cameron James and Captain Teresa Schovick. But no one had told her that there would also be personal assigned to the project who at one point were in the military, it had surprised her to learn that not only was the pilot Alexander-James Bishop once a member of the military, so was the co-pilot Kendra A. Erickson. And she had actually served with the Colonel at one point. Even the mechanic Nakeisha Rhodes, the only one who had not arrived yet, had been working for the military doing research. I'll be talking to General Rakon about that. She thought with disgust. Downplaying the military involvement? I think not. At least not when only three of the ten chosen had no connection with the military, herself, Michael J Travis and Catherine Sanderson. With an inward sigh she turned her attention back to what was going on. If anything, any protests would wait until after she got a feel for how everyone worked together. So far everyone seemed to be getting along just fine, sure there was the usual awkwardness that came from meeting people you really didn't know, but that would take care of itself in due time. Brianna flashed a brief smile at the newest arrival Major Cameron James when he turned and took a few steps over to face her and Kendra after being rudely brushed off by Colonel DeSouza. What's up with that? "It's a pleasure to meet you Dr. Henderson, I've heard a lot about you." He extended his hand shaking hers firmly before letting go. "Thank you." Brianna said politely. "Major Cameron James correct?" "Yes ma'am." Brianna laughed a little at that. "Just Brianna or Dr. Henderson is fine." "Yes ma'... I mean Brianna." Cameron stammered a tiny bit and then stiffened slightly at something behind Brianna. Brianna turned slightly to see that Colonel DeSouza had walked up to Kendra to ask her something. Just what is going on here? Brianna wondered. She gave her attention to Cameron when he spoke up again. Cameron continued with a nod indicating all of them. "Just call me Cameron then." Brianna started to speak but Colone DeSouza beat her too it, "James will do." He said firmly before turning and walking away. She couldn't help but notice Cameron's confused look, Brianna was sure she shared it. Why would he even care about Cameron's name? Her gaze turned to Kendra, questioning. "Uh..." Kendra looked a bit flustered, "Please don't take it personal." She lowered her voice before continuing. "His younger brother, Cameron, vanished without a trace." With that she gave both of them an apologetic smile and left to follow Colonel DeSouza. Brianna raised an eyebrow at that. I'd better look into that. She thought. It must have been fairly recent for him to still be bothered by it. Regardless it was something she'd have to watch out for, she was sure the Colonel was not the only one on the team with things in their past that were unpleasant.

What can I say? A couple of them were long overdue. :p For being dealt with that is. Now I have to write up Sandra's reaction to her father being found guilty. As well as her reaction to him being executed. lol Still I have to say I love the way you did it. That fight between Jason and the other researchers was unexpected. And far more fun that just a simple execution. I also like the timing of Kiva's deal with Kuro happening at the same time the civilians arrive in sector fourteen.

Risa Koizumi has always been taller than most people, and Atsushi Ootani has always been shorter than most boys. Risa, who fell asleep during an assembly and is caught doing it ends up being punished by being required to attend summer school. Only to realize that she's stuck in the same summer class with Ootani. Something that annoys both of them since they are always arguing with one another. But when a cute tall guy named Suzuki ends up in the same summer class, Ootani and Risa team up to help each other with getting to know someone they are interested in. Risa with the new student Suzuki and Oatani with Risa's friend Chiharu. But in the end Suzuki and Chicharu end up
liking each other.
However, Risa begins to notice that she has feelings for Ootani. Feelings that Ootani doesn't seem realize are there. Thus begins the start of Risa finding a way to get Ootani to understand that she likes him as well as figuring out if a relationship between a short guy and a tall girl is even possible. Now I've only watched the first episode, but it was fun, engaging and the constant arguing between Risa and Ootani was well done. It's almost as they are good friends who are too afraid to realize that they just might like each other. I'm not a huge fan of the animation to this even though it does look nice. Primarily because they way they've done both Risa and Ootani reminds me of One Piece a bit. However, it does fit them. Especially when they have moments of saying the exact same thing or reacting to something in the same manner. Like in the first episode and the two of them get all excited over
swimming in the pool. They're like little kids being given a treat.
Anyway, it does look like it will be a fun series about relationships and I'm looking forward to watching the next episode.

*pets muse* you adorable little hellion!
If it's your muse, then it's no question that it's a 'little helliion' lol But beyond that, other than Takuya/GuyYouMetOnline, Aaryanna, Prem, Hells and you and myself DB, no one else has indicated if they still wish to continue. So what about it Clurr, Fyxe, Stephanie, Wet Cement, Jiazu and Darren? I know this isn't my rp, but seriously that's a lot of players who still haven't indicated if they are still interested or not. Or rather they haven't here, but if they have in a pm, I'd like to know since it seems like we're missing half of the entire cast here. Though knowing you DB, you'll just ruthlessly get rid of those who have lost interest. :p If that is indeed the case.

Well Gavin, if you'll read Desbresko's post that SunfallE linked to in her post then you will see that the text is what loads first. So shouldn't a bigger signature size really not be much of a problem to you?
Actually as Nerdsy already pointed out, them loading later often results in the page jumping while you are trying to read it. And this happens even with a faster connection if the server hosting the image is being slow. Unless the person turns the option to see signatures off to keep them from loading for them at all. And why should someone have to disable signatures all together to avoid large images? Signatures are merely window dressing and not the main purpose of posting. I, like SunfallE, do not come here to stare at people's signatures. I come to read the posts. And even if they load quickly, its annoying to scroll through essentially pages and pages of 'pictures' just to read a few posts. It's one of the things I find annoying about other sites that don't restrict the signature size. I certainly have no issue with increasing them a little, but too much of an increase beyond the 550x120 would just be a total eyesore in my opinion. And realistically, thats plenty of space to get creative with. For a signature.

I knew that already, I was just amazed there were so many empty accounts, as I can't imagine we've had that many spammy posters and porn bots, but maybe I'm wrong.
You're wrong. ;) Things will most likely change due to the upgrade and better plug ins to deal with advertising/porn bots. But until the change I was easily removing several per week and that does not count the ones that other Category Mods or Admins removed. I suppose the reason it's hard to imagine is that usually we get to them pretty quickly. So they rarely lasted more than say an hour or two on the boards before they were dealt with.

Ah fair enough, I probably should have made that assumption myself. On a side note, I actually did a little investigation on how many registered accounts there are with zero posts attached and it's a staggering 1328 people, compared to the 30 people with post counts between 1 and 10.
Actually that's not entirely accurate. If someone joins and posts (I wuv sessy so much!) With a ton of smilies attached, deleting said post returns their count back to zero. The same goes with spam and porn bots. They did post at one time, but now that count is zero due to the spammy/offending posts being removed. So the number of people who post once or twice and leave is much higher than 30.

Please note that I do not mean for this to come off as bitchy or in any way imply that "OB SUCKS!!". If you get that from this, you're not understanding my point.
No danger of that. Heh.
My favorite moment here was when I stopped being a category moderator. Not because I hate OB or hated it then or anything in that vein. It was just because being a mod on a fairly active site is a pain in the ***.[/I'] It took up a lot of time, you never knew what was going to happen, you got constant PMs about who knows what (usually bitchy ones), weird people IMed you out of nowhere and sucked up to you.
I haven't reached that point, of wanting to stop being a moderator, but I do understand what you are saying. It's something I never really thought about when I accepted the offer to be one. And there are times that those bitchy pm's are a surprise. As well as the people who IM you wanting you to join their forum or some other such nonsense. lol Anyway, I can certainly see the appeal to being able to sign in and not have to worry about anything beyond reading what was posted. Because in the end, that's what I enjoy most about being here. Once I'm done with anything that requires attention that is.
Afterwards, I think it puts you in a position where perhaps you appreciate the concept of a moderator more than you would have if you never were a mod. It also makes you appreciate being a normal member a Hell of a lot more. It's just a load off of your mind, I guess.
That's also another one of my favorite things about OB, those members who understand or rather appreciate that at times we do put up with a lot of nonsense. lol But then that's part of what drew me here in the first place. I positively loved how porn and stuff like flaming was always dealt with instead of being allowed to take hold and be a royal pain in the butt. And though I enjoy dealing with it at the moment, I know when the time comes I'll definately appreciate whoever is doing it once I'm no longer a mod myself. :) *cough* Though I'm still to busy enjoying stalking Des for that to happen anytime soon. lol

User Names: Because Repeat Threads Are Good For You!
Horendithas replied to SunfallE's topic in General Discussion
Well, even though I've said this before, it's still true. ;) I chose my user name based on events that happened when I was a high school student and later after some experiences I had with other online anime forums. When I was in High School I made the mistake of bringing some Sailor Moon manga to class. One of my teachers saw it and assumed it was porn without bothering to read it and took me to the principal?s office where I got a huge lecture and then they took me outside and literally burned my books on the spot. My parents tried to complain to the authorities but the principal and teacher both lied and claimed they gave me the books back and that if anyone had burned them I must have done it myself. Needless to say the authorities believed the adults and not some out of state High School kid (since we had just moved to the state) who wasn?t a member of the dominant religion in the area. I also joined some online anime forums run by the dominant religion where I lived thinking it would be a good way to get to know the people of the area. It turned out to be nothing more than a way for the parents to strictly regulate and control what their children were watching in regards to anime. Since I am a fan of yaoi and yuri series the moment I mentioned a few I was immediately flamed by other members, It reached the point where I finally closed my account and looked around for another forum to join as I was tired of getting close to 100 + messages a month. I lost count of the religious subscriptions I was anonymously signed up to by other members of the forum. Needless to say I was not interested in the nonsense being sent my way. Those two events led me to change my user name to indifference as I decided that if others do not like my love of anime then as I my name says I am indifferent to their opinion in that respect as I have no intention of changing to fit their narrow views of what they think is acceptable. Ironically I like the new user name better than my previous one. As for changing it? I've toyed with the idea of going back to using my first name Crystia, like I use to. But I've grown use to indifference so it's not likely to happen any time soon. I do find it ironic that joining myOtaku and then later OtakuBoards was a completely and totally different experience in that I was never harassed at all. So in a sense I didn't need a different user name after all. lol -

Aren't a lot of comedies like this pointless? The story and plot are just there to introduce situations for the characters. I could see things coming from a mile away but I didn't mind because the show is all about the character interaction anyway. Anyway, I finished watching season 1 a bit ago and I enjoyed it quite a bit. It reminds me of Love Hina, except for the setting and Saito not being helpless and cowardly like Keitarou. It's good for a laugh, easy to watch multiple episodes in a row, and is only 13 episodes long so I can see myself watching it again some time down the road. I'm also looking forward to season 2. Just waiting on the high-definition h.264 releases for episodes 1 and 2. And I love Louise's long, flowing, pink hair. Forget the fanservice, that hair is just too pretty. :animenose
Oh I agree, and I did enjoy the character interaction. I suppose it would make more sense to say that even though I did enjoy it once, I probably wouldn't buy the dvd's when it comes out. I would however, six months down the road watch it again. It's what I call the fun to watch on occasion, but not enough to actually spend the money on acquiring it type of show. ;) And I agree about Louise's hair, it is too pretty. lol As well as a good amount of the rest of the animation in this. It is pretty well done. And I do get the biggest kick out of how Louise is good at
blowing things up left and right.

Oh and I've discovered fan subs so I've been checking out new shows that way. I'm all for watching anime without all the commercials. ^_^
I avoid anime on tv for the same reason. I hate commercials. That and some fansubs are pretty good. If only I had enough room to save them on my computer. Though I suppose I could burn the file onto a disk. But I'm too lazy. Still I use fansubs to check out new shows all the time. As for how I started watching anime... It started when I was a kid and my father would bring me back little gifts from his business trips to Japan. And though I went with my parents as a kid a few times, since my dad would take my mom along when he could. I regret to say that other than some vague memories I really don't remember the trips at all. Still the different stuff he brought back got me into different aspects of the culture there and that included animation. Though I tend to collect more art books than I do DVD's since I love that sort of stuff. However, my collection of actual shows has finally caught up with the amount of art books that I have. In the end I don't remember an exact time or year for getting into anime, it's just always been around in some form or another for as long as I can remember. I've never been a huge anime fan, but it would feel strange if I wasn't watching at least something new every week.

I think the thing that cracks me up the most about this is the
Pink Supervisor nick name
that Fuura Kafuka gave to Itoshiki Nozomu. That and how their outlook on life is so 100% exactly the opposite. I'd really love to see this on a full screen instead of a smaller fan subbed player since it looks like the visuals are stunning. That first episode was beautifully done, I really liked the art and presentation of the beginning, aspects of the actual show as well as the ending. I'd probably watch it just for that alone.

Aaryanna & indifference, I'm glad you like the banner and yes you're both correct I do have the full scan of that so I'll shoot that off to both of you in an e-mail. The file's too big for hosting at imageshack or my photobucket account for that matter.
Thanks. And wow, you weren't kidding, that's pretty big.
constantly keeps the military tags of his younger brother Cameron on him at all times since being presumed dead after his mysterious disappearance
Ha! I figured it out. Especially after Beth's post where she mentions this:
Even if Marcus rarely spoke about it. Kendra knew how much his younger brother's disappearance hurt. He had been so proud to learn that Cameron had been assigned to the Planet Police, Special Task Force. Welcome to OtakuBoards Metalcore501, I'm going to close this thread for a couple of reasons. The first being that posting to indicate you intend to eventually get around to posting some of your works without actually doing so is considered spam. Why? Because there's no way of knowing if you'll actually come back and post something. Second, you've basically backed yourself into a corner here. When the time comes to actually put up your work, unless someone else posts, and realistically, who will since there's nothing to comment on yet. So in the end you can't double post in order to bump the thread back up so others will see there is a new post in it. You have to simply edit your existing post. So no one will know that you've finally added the works you were talking about. Now not to discourage you or anything here, just wait until you actually have something to post before getting this started. And once you do have a short story, personal lyrics or poetry ready to post. Then by all means feel free to start a new thread at that point. If you have any questions, feel free to pm myself or another member of the staff. ~indifference Thread Closed

Yeah, this is the part I hate the most... waiting to begin, heh. This is worse than waiting to see if I was accepted. Becuase now I'm anxious to write something.
I agree, with the waiting to begin part. I'm ready to get this going as well. Especially since Beth's been such a tease over what the first mission will be. Giving me hints that are meaningless and in the end I find it ironic to be playing an expedition leader who has no clue where she's going yet. :p Oh and Beth... I'm with Aaryanna, that's a great banner and since I know that scan is over at AnimePaper, [I'm assuming you got it there, it's not like you don't have enough papers after all XP] Anyway... if you've got a full copy, I'd like to have it too. If you don't mind that is.

Corn on the cob. No matter how often I have it, I never get tired of it. I love having it freshly steamed so that the corn is still slightly crunchy. And most importantly, no sugar, butter, salt or other disgusting stuff tossed on it. Just plain steamed corn on the cob. I have the same addiction to other freshly steamed veggies like broccoli and carrots as well as zucchini and yellow squash. It takes the fun out of it when you toss stuff on it or cook it long enough to make them all soft instead of slightly crisp. But so far, that's an addiction I've had for years and I don't see it changing anytime soon. Good stuff.

I have some sort of fruit all the time. My personal favorites being nectarines and strawberries. So far the only fruit I tried and didn't like at all was honey dew melon. But everything else is usually fair game. I may not like it a lot but so far the only one I truly disliked was the honey dew. Oh and I do not like fruit in heavy syrup, dipped in chocolate or anything like that. I like it plain and fresh if at all possible. If I can't get it like that then I just don't have any. Oh and one other thing, red delicious apples, in season straight from the orchard are really, really good. They only seem to taste like wood if they've been stored and brought out later. So I always enjoy those when its that time of year for them around here.

And why, exacly, do you do just as the bible says? Do you have no mind of your own? I mean, I'm not saying anyone is stupid for liking the ideas of the bible, but it's just a book with some good ideas. It's dangerous to trust everything you read, yaknow.

The very fact you don't understand the significance of the Bible to people is why you don't understand their viewpoint. These people have faith that the Bible is the Word of God, and as such is His belief on the subject of life and how we are to live our lives. And before you say "but it was written by men", the Bible was supposedly the work of God through others, much like the Qur'an.
Honestly, I think that goes both ways. Sometimes I think people who believe in the Bible don't understand the viewpoint of those who think its nothing more than a book. It's a lack of understand on both sides in my opinion. ;) And being one of those who does not believe in the Bible or any other religious text for that matter, I find it hard to understand why people are relying on an ancient manuscript that on many levels is disputed over whether or not it's actually true. But that is a discussion for another thread yes? Anyway... having said that, I don't believe in God or any of that stuff as to why homosexuality is wrong or a sin. And though I myself am straight, I see no issue or problem with people who are not. I've never understood why people get so uptight or upset over how someone else has sex. lol At the end of the day, it doesn't change anything for you. Your life isn't really changed at all because of what others may or may not be doing behind closed doors.

Writing How to Restore Your Creative Muse [Help thread]
Horendithas replied to Aberinkula's topic in Creative Works

BURN THE HERETIC !! ;)
Well so long as nobody wants to stuff me in a freezer... I'm game. Brrr! Anyway...
Bah. The size of one's handwriting is controllable. You're just making excuses. Your aunt, however, has a legitimate reason.
Bah! You're expecting me to like tiny handwriting, discrimination I say! :p And yeah, my aunt does have a good reason. Also I forgot to mention. Another thing I've done when I'm coming up dry on ideas is to keep notes on dreams I've had for a while. At the end of a week, I'll often find something useful out of the wacky dreams I've had that helps me to start feeling creative again. -
Personally I like the method of simply jumping right in with one's posts instead of a thread/section dedicated to hi I'm new here. You really get to know the person much better or rather quicker in my opinion. It's fairly easy to spot the new arrivals without an introduction thread or section of the boards. ;) I like it since it's very open in that you're always welcome here and that you don't have to be introduced to feel welcome. Like Sandy said it's easy to start off your posts, with hi I'm new here and then immediately launch into your opinion on the current topic. As for goodbyes? That one I just don't see the point. If I ever leave a place I simply note it in my signature as well as pming those who I consider my friends. I have no plans to leave this place, but should that happen down the road, that's exactly how I'd do it. Also I've said it before but an introduction forum would be wasted on a high quality-posting site like this one. It would not guarantee that introduction threads wouldn't be posted. [the spammy ones that is] It would also run the risk of encouraging the attitude that one needs to create such threads or must post in them first to get approval from the other members in order to join the current topics being discussed. What I find most endearing about this site is that you can join a discussion without the need to introduce yourself. As most introduction threads mainly consist of spamming, [at least the ones I've seen at other forums have] adding one would be like taking a step backwards for this place instead of improving it. The current atmosphere of anyone can step right in and feel welcome far outweighs the need for a greetings/goodbye section of the boards. [in my opinion that is] People will welcome you here when you arrive, and others will miss you whether you say goodbye or not when you leave.

Just to be clear GuyYouMetOnline, the interaction between my character and Aaryanna's is before Hells dragged everyone into the cave. :animesigh Since I don't intend to skip over that exercise to stay in synch. And I find it unlikely that Tasha or Vanyel would wait several hours to give it a try. And Hell's could you please try to avoid writing what the other characters are doing? It's annoying when someone moves them elsewhere as well as advancing the story by several hours without warning. And before anyone says anything about what I did with Aaryanna's character, the two of us discussed that in advance.

Writing How to Restore Your Creative Muse [Help thread]
Horendithas replied to Aberinkula's topic in Creative Works

QFT Writing on wide-rule paper is like riding a kiddie bike with training wheels. You feel like a gigantic monkey the entire time.
You people are silly. :p Wide-ruled paper is great stuff. Especially if you don't have tiny neat handwriting. Or like my aunt, have severe arthritis that keeps you from writing small as well. In the end I'll take Word over paper any day. As for restoring one's creative muse? Don't force it. If you really are stuck go do something fun and totally unrelated to writing. I tend to feel more focused after that and even if that muse isn't fully restored, it is at least back on track to getting there. -
You've got to be kidding me! Vanyel thought as she watched the others touch the stone, opening their minds as they did so. At that moment she wanted to cry from frustration since her attempt to touch the stone and read it met with her own barrier refusing to lower. Great! Just great! Leave it to that fool to give me a task I can't do yet! Vanyel stalked off a bit, furious at Liam. If he was so powerful, surely he knew she had yet to figure out how to lower her barrier. Vanyel was sure it was similar to the teleportation, a matter of understanding what to do. But in this case she literally didn't know how. She had already tried to do so when she first arrived at this strange place. She was so wrapped up in her thoughts that Vanyel didn't even realize someone had approached her until a hand touched her right shoulder from behind and a voice asked her if she was okay. With a startled shriek she whirled around backing up, tripping over her own feet and falling hard on her rear. It was only the woman Tasha who she had met earlier. "I'm sorry, I did call out your name" she said apologetically. "Didn't you hear me?" Vanyel got back up, taking a moment to brush her clothes off before responding. "No I did not hear you." "I figured as much. Since your thoughts were a tad incoherent as well as being quite angry." Vanyel stepped back, instantly angry. "Why the hell does everyone think it's okay to read other people's mind? Gods! Just stop it already!" She turned to stalk off again but stopped when Tasha spoke again. "You don't understand, I only heard the thoughts that escaped your barrier, I did not read your mind." Tasha found a large stone to sit down on before continuing. "Now again, I'm sorry for being blunt, but the truth is I do know how to lower one's shield, if you like I'll show you how. Especially since I noticed when we first met that you were unable to lower your barrier." But... what about that ability of hers? The one she said that makes people want to be near her? If my barrier is lowered won't that leave me open to it? Vanyel stood there, torn between leaving and accepting her help. She shifted from one foot to the other, I don't know what to do! Tasha sighed a bit. "I can understand why you are reluctant, but look at this way. Once you figure it out, your barrier will be even stronger. Part of your problem now is that it's not set up very well. You're relying on brute strength instead of proper training. I may not have been at Esper Hall for long but I did met a telepath before I came here who showed me the basics." Vanyel finally sighed. "Fine, just promise me that you'll stay out of my mind as much as possible." In the end, what choice did she have? She was stuck here until she learned what Liam expected of her. And though she didn't hate him, Vanyel was beginning to understand why she kept hearing others refer to him as 'that bastard' ************************ OCC: It's all yours at this point Aaryanna

I love this show, because while it's pretty much pointless, it's really fun and hilarious. Oh, and there's tons of fanservice for both sides of the spectrum (big or small boobs...)
I agree that the show is pointless, but saying it has fan service for both sides? Only you would think that DB. :p Still once you get further along and past all that silly fan service, which thank god isn't as bad as other shows, it is funny to watch if only because it's so cliched and pointless at times. In other words, if you're bored and have nothing else new to watch, it is semi amusing to watch once. Don't know if I'll ever do so again though. Or if I'll bother with the second season since the ending was so predictable that it had me cringing.
