Dragon Quest VIII- Epically involving, epically well crafted and an almost epic story. The graphics, I have a bias for cel shaded so bear with me, are just vivid and alluring. The gameplay is actually just pretty much the same as most RP games, it's the smaller touches within the battle system and exploring the world.. how some enemies just sit and lick themselves instead of attacking you, it's just the quirks in the system that make you enjoy it. The story was kind of standard fair (evil being does evil thing) but it was presented in a refined way that still held a twist and a turn. The characters were presented realistically enough to be engaging and the voice acting was SUPERB. Best voice acting I have heard in a long while, hands down.
I hadn't responded to this thread since I couldn't think of an epic game that I've actually played, that is until I read this. You're 100% correct. This is one of the most totally awesome games I've played in a very long time. And the inclusion of so many silly things as well as have the opportunity to replay it and build your character around totally different skill sets gives it a good replay value as well. I also enjoyed the choice of music for it as well. It has all sorts of funny things just waiting to be found, one of my favorites was attempting to zoom back to a town while standing under a bridge. I laughed and laughed when my character instead hit the underside of the bridge and fell to the ground, forcing me to move to open skies. This and other little tidbits just give it a depth and fun that makes it even more enjoyable. As well as being epic. The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess I consider it epic for some of the same reasons DB does. The actual world was fantastic and even though some of the boss fights could have been more involved, the worlds surrounding them were great. The massive underground water cavern in the water temple, the need for
dual hookshot just to get around and to fight the boss
were great fun.

Having finally gotten around to watching the first episode to this I'm finding it interesting. Enough that I plan on watching the next episode. It did take me a moment to wonder just why one character was breaking his fingers since the show doesn't introduce things, but rather you find out as it goes along. So I didn't fully understand that contractors have to pay a price for using their power. The main character is interesting in that I like how he's very good at playing the innocent bystander when he's anything but that. It was fairly obvious when he got
shoved over the edge just as a train was passing by underneath, that he was not dead.
Anyway, I like the music and the dark feel to how the city is done. Now I just need to go and watch that second episode.

I'm stalling because I'm tired, sunburned, my muse is on vacation, I forgot where we are and don't have a strinct enough aesthetic for this rp, I have a lot of stuff i'm doing, and I'm a naturally lazy person. >_> Indiff, you've been a magnificent advisor to me in the past - I'd be honored if you PMed me some aid...
By all means, like Prem said, take a moment to catch up on some sleep. It's not like OB is going anywhere. Still that being said, based on what you said in your pm I sent you a response that I think would fit into what you have in mind. You've already got an excellent idea so no worries about your muse being gone. I would imagine it's the being tired part that's making it hard for you to put it into action. Also, while you get that rest in Darren and Fyxe as well as anyone else who needs to indicate their characters are done for the day can get their posts in. Also, feel free to ignore me if I seem eager and impatient. I only have two classes this summer so I have lots of free time that normally I don't have. lol

I suppose it could be said that apathy is our anti-drug. ; )
Well, there is an anti-drug as one would call it. At least for me that is. And that is sex. Not that I use it as one, but rather that if I wish to have it, regular smoke as well as the smoke from pot doesn't get along with my asthma too well. It just kills the mood if I end up needing my inhaler just to breathe let alone do anything else. And yes I've heard about how pot supposedly helps Asthma, in my case that has never been true. Being exposed to it second hand has always been a problem. And alcohol? Especially if it's someone who drinks a lot. The smell alone is enough to kill any romantic or lustful inclinations. So since those things are a killjoy to my enjoying a relationship that is becoming more serious I have no interest in them for myself or in the person I am dating either. No offense to anyone, but if they smoke or drink in excess or do the illegal stuff, that's a huge turn off and usually ends the relationship right then and there. I don't mind some social drinking or very light smoking. But I've yet to met anyone who only smokes occasionally, whether it was pot or regular cigarettes.

Okay... It seems like we've been a bit low on activity. (Not something to be worried about, but I'm just pointing it ou) I would like to wait to make my post at midnight since that's what I stipulated in my last post, but it seems like we've only moved up to 7:45... So, if you no one else has a problem, then I'll make a post (granted that Fyxe still wants to go first) puttingus at midnight, and then Hells can end off the day or something. (since I know he wants me to include Dante at the club as well)
Last week was the forth of July remember? Also DB told us to have our characters wrap it up for the day and most of us already have. We are waiting on the rest of you to post. ;) Also, even though only DB knows what he has in mind, time wise, unless your character is going to talk to another one the time is irrelevant. Your post at say midnight would not matter if it came before Fyxe or Aaryanna who are still around 7:45pm. I for one don't find characters, in the same day being at different times confusing. Even then DB, you can always start off the next part if people take to long, after all, if it's the morning of day two, the implication that people at one point did indeed go to bed is rather obvious isn't it?
Aw, come on, I love the opening sequence. It's so hyper-active, cute, and cheerful with a splash of random weirdness that I can't help but watch it every episode. I think it suits the series perfectly.
I agree, about it being cute, hyper active, etc. I meant it literally though, the tone and pitch of the singing voices seems to be just right to get my ears. Like nails on a chalkboard. It makes me cringe lol Otherwise I would watch it every time. Since I wasn't saying it didn't suit the series Dessy. ;)

Am I the only one who while watching that silly opening feels like my IQ is dropping with every second that it plays? LOL
Nope, I tend to avoid watching the opening just for that reason. It is cute, but the voices come off as high pitched and grate on my ears. In addition to making you dumber at the same time. lol I've yet to see a full episode since I've only done what you have Aaryanna and watched a handful of snippets over at youtube. But the ones I have seen are hilarious. It's funny how they sit there and talk about how to eat food or different things as if it was the most serious thing in the whole world. Pity it's not out on DVD here in the USA, otherwise I'd go and pick up the first one to check it out.

:love2: *worships the great Dessy* Heh, I just took a look since I was considering fixing a few posts, but whatever you did restored the swearing that was already there. Which is great. Silver One had very little to begin with and like SunfallE I found those asterisks annoying. lol So I'm glad I don't have to fix anything.

hey everybody just wondering what your anti-drugs were/are
None, you don't need an anti-drug if you have no interest in them. Pretty basic and simple really. Though I'm assuming you are referring to illegal drugs and not legal. In which case I can't do without my inhaler. Not being able to breathe doesn't work very well.
first a couple of rules no using drugs as anti-drugs leave your comments to yourself unless there constructive and finally try not to be "dumb".
Actually that won't work, there are drugs used to treat addictions to different types of illegal drugs as well as legal ones. So technically, someone's anti-drug could be the one used to treat that addiction. Also, no need for the warning about comments or being constructive, that's expected around here and it's the mod's job to enforce it. So it's not needed in your posts. And we discourage it actually since it's considered back seat modding. Also, don't assume someone's response is 'dumb' before you even read it. That goes along the lines of not giving good comments. Or rather one that you should have kept to yourself.
personally my anti-drug is life because its to good to mess up with drugs.
So how about going a little further into that? What is it about life that makes it worth while. What things in your life make you want to avoid illegal drugs? It's usually a good idea to put more into your opening post since it helps to get things going since we do expect people to put more effort into their posts. ;)

The final battles in each arc tend to be on the long side, but sadly, to this day I cannot think of any other comparably lengthy, 1990+ show in the genre that: 1) Gets consistently better as it goes along; 2) Doesn't have any filler; and 3) Has a real ending.
I have to agree, since even then, compared to some of the overdrawn out battles of other series, the ones in this show aren't that bad as far as length goes, and the lack of filler is a definite plus. It's great how it's consistent in avoiding that pitfall that so many other shows with battles tend to fall into.
YYH is one of Funi's older & looser dubs. But what the English version loses in bite, it gains in some very funny not-quite-true-to-the-original lines. On the other hand, the Japanese version has an all-star cast, so it's hard to go wrong here. ;) ~Dagger~
Heh, that's the other thing I like about this series. Even though the English does lose a bit of the edge the humor in it makes up for it. I prefer the Japanese, but I actually like both. And now reading this thread has me wanting to pull out the series and watch it again since it's been awhile. :)

There's no reason why we can't have some sort of newbie party later though. It would be kind of fun to arrange a pool party or something like that for a later date. If it fits into what DB has in mind that is. Oh and if it wasn't clear enough DB, the fact that Vanyel is back at her room, in pajamas studying no less means that she won't be going anywhere else. I won't post that she went to bed, since it's obvious that once she gets tired she'll do just that.

I just realised something. The whole purpose of this thread is not to inform us of the RPG, but to get the spammage out of our systems so that we can post properly. Huh.
Just to be a killjoy, because it is my job after all, but no. That's what pm's, AIM, MSN and other communication sources are for. So please, lets keep the total off topic posts down to a minimum. Or better yet, not at all. And yes a number of the posts had absolutely nothing to do with the RPG.
I think we need to conserve this to PMs, I don't need mods breathin down my back ^^;; (even if I have two in the rp itself...)
No DB the only one's I'm looking at is Premonition, Fyxe and Squiggles. Since the three of you know better. EDIT: Also, I removed nine off topic posts people. The occasional one I can see, but an entire conversation that has nothing to do with the RPG is unacceptable.

I'd have to say that being asked to be a staff member by Des was one of my favorite moments. Simply because I wasn't trying to be noticed, or posting with the intent of hoping I would be asked to be a staff member, so it was a complete and total, what the hell, moment. [in a good way of course] The same goes for when I was asked if I would like to be a category moderator as well. Especially since the Complaint thread was running at the same time with a cry for my removal as a moderator. But by far one of my favorite moments was shortly after I started on the staff and r2vq, who had been talking to Aaryanna, sent me a pm titled: You're a girl? I laughed and laughed over that. Since it never occurred to me that people would think I was a guy.:catgirl:

Vanyel had been thrilled to realize that transporting yourself wasn't as difficult as she had thought it would be. It took a while for the teacher to get the concept across to her, but the mistaken notion that size and weight limited you, or rather in as strict a manner as she was thinking had surprised her. And once she got it, she found that she could do as the teacher said. Though she still couldn't go very far, but Vanyel did not care. Miss Rose had said that distance was merely a matter of practice and Vanyel believed her. Once the lesson was over and Vanyel was back in her room she had started on the books the librarian Sara had given her since she wanted to be ready for the basic classes in the morning. There was no way she was going stay as ignorant as she was. If there was one thing Vanyel hated, it was feeling stupid. At least I do know how to read and write. Though her writing was painfully hard to do and looked terrible. Vanyel had finally given up and practiced the teleporting instead. That is until she started feeling a little light headed. Vanyel stumbled a bit and sat down on the edge of her bed, looking up at the clock on the wall. It was almost 7 pm. No wonder I feel dizzy. I forgot to get something to eat. She waited for a moment to let the dizzy feeling pass and then she got up, her map neatly folded and in her pocket as she opened the door and headed for the cafeteria. Surprisingly there were a lot of people going about their business, though many of them looked as if they were off to things besides grabbing a bite to eat. For the most part other than to avoid bumping into any of them Vanyel just steered clear of people until finally she was at the cafeteria. But right as she got to the door she froze. Not because she did see someone she recognized, Shayla if she remembered the names correctly, but because the oddest feeling, one that made no sense, caught her. An intense desire to be near a woman with pale blonde hair that she had never met. Without even thinking about it she attempted to slam her barrier to her mind even tighter, and though it did seem to help it wasn't quite enough. What the hell? Vanyel didn't have a clue what had just happened. Nor just exactly what she was feeling either, since why in the world would she want to be near someone she had never met! Hadn't someone mentioned that other Espers would play pranks on the new people? Just the thought that someone was trying to toy with her made her angry. And yet at the same time not being able to figure out just what the hell was happening annoyed her as well. Since she didn't know if it was intentional or not. Hell! Vanyel was quite hungry though so she edged over to the where the food was and got a sandwich. Something that she could take back to her room with her. She didn't even bother to see what it was. Vanyel took it and after politely thanking the person behind the counter she took off at a dead run for her room. Sighing with relief when the odd feeling left. Just as she did not like someone being able to enter her mind without permission, the idea that someone could make her want to be near them bothered her as well. A few minutes later she was in her room, the door closed and locked behind her. Vanyel set the sandwich down and threw herself on the bed, sitting with her back against the wall, facing the door. I don't even know that woman, why the hell did I want to be near her? She fought to bring her emotions under control, but this place, though exciting, was also testing her ability to stay calm. That was the second time that she'd nearly lost control of her ability to start fires. I have to find a class for that as well. Vanyel choked at the thought. I don't want to hurt anyone again. Ever. She took several deep breaths and finally crawled off the bed, more composed. It was a pity that the sandwich turned out to be ham. Vanyel didn't like ham. But she wasn't going back to the cafeteria. With a sigh she simply ate the sandwich and then she took a long hot bath to help herself to relax. Then since she did not want to do anything else she changed into some pajamas and grabbed some of the books for tomorrow and started studying them again.

Stevens was feeling rather pleased, as was Sandra and Jared. The investigation to not only recover Kerstin but to find and arrest Blaine had gone down perfectly. And from what the ships doctor had told them, other than the damage from the disruptor's, which the doctor had already fixed, used on Daniel, both of them would be just fine. Stevens opened up a priority message that he had gotten from sector fourteen and then addressed both Sandra and Jared who were with him in the observation room of the Conqueror. "Now that the mess with Blaine is taken care, and another head of one of the ten factions of the High Council handing over the master access code, there is another problem that needs to be addressed." Stevens sent the message to the terminal in front of both of them. "I received this this morning. As you can see, even though we moved to the second level of martial law to restore order, it seems that a number of citizens after learning that illegal research was being conducted decided to take advantage of the chaos to head for the facility and attempt to take matters in their own hands and destroy it. Normally this would not be a problem, but there just isn't enough resources to shift enough of the military to that area to secure it, especially since I authorized shifting most of the resources that were there to other sectors to quell the riots. Now I can't shift them back and as a result quite a few of them got past the defenses and into the community there that supports not only the military outpost but the researchers." Sandra looked at the information and then back to Stevens, "There are actual riots going on there? Surely you can afford to siphon of some of the resources from the nearest sectors to deal with this. I'm curious as to why you are even bringing this up with us instead of with Zach." "Because that's not an option. I've already talked with the others and though it looks like things are under control, it's a very fragile control. Also Crystal's research is far from promising, once the news gets out that the alterations cannot be reversed, things are going to get ugly, I'm going to need everyone to to stay where they are to keep things from spiraling even more out of control." Stevens sighed a bit. "I tried talking to some of the other Elite Specialists since they have informed us that due to a conflict of interest that they will simply sit things out until the investigation is completed. And none of them are willing to assist with problems like what's going on in sector fourteen. The only one I haven't talked to yet is Kiva since she was already helping with locating Kerstin and Blaine and incidentally Daniel." Jared laughed, "What did you expect Stevens? After all their lives are in as much if not more danger than the High Council's. People are furious. Kiva is protected by virtue in being in sector one where things are the most heavily patrolled, and you've made it quite clear that any action taken against her would amount to treason. And even then, she's got the most advanced Messenger ship there is, so long as she's on board, she's untouchable. But elsewhere? Those Elite Specialists are better off staying in their ships where no one can get to them and waiting. It's the smartest thing they can do." "I know Jared," Stevens agreed. "Believe me, I know. And that's where you two come in. I want both of you to start analyzing our resources to see how we can better shift them to keep things running smoothly. But I want you to do this without favoring sector fourteen. Because even in the military many people want those researchers dead. And frankly, compared to the rest of the Empire, there just aren't enough citizens there to warrant moving military resources to protect thirty scientists. I intend to see if Kiva would be willing to go to sector fourteen. Both her and Daego are in my opinion the least biased and unmoved by whether or not the scientists are doing illegal research. And seeing that a number of them have gone into hiding, they'd be perfect at tracking them down. Besides. I've also talked with Dakar, James and Zach. We've all agreed that due to the alterations that it's best to halt project two permanently. I'd also want Kiva and Daego to collect the data and then destroy the computers that held the notes for project two." Sandra stood up, "Very well then, if you're looking for my approval on this, you have it. That research needs to end. And those scientists need to be protected. They cannot be held accountable for simply following orders." She started to turn to leave and then turned back. "One other thing, it would probably be wise to have both Erica and Blaine transfered to cells here on the Conqueror. I understand that she requires being checked twice a day and Crystal is needed here." Jared got up to leave as well. "I agree, and once I finish debriefing both Daniel and Kerstin I'll be able to focus solely on assisting with making sure resources are shifted to where they need to be." Both Sandra and Jared stood there, waiting for Stevens to speak. Which once he stood up he did. "Then lets get to work. I'll take care of contacting Kiva. If she says no, then we'll need to think of something else." He nodded to both of them before they turned and left and then Stevens went over to the desk and started pulling up all the information he had gotten in regards to the chaos in sector fourteen. Not only would he need to write up full authorization for her orders to be followed, should the need to arise. But he also would provide her with the master code of the head of Erica's faction. Because even though Erica's code would access pretty much anything. The ten codes assigned to the leaders of the factions of the High Council would quite literally access absolutely anything in the Empire, the only thing they would not access was the data vaults for the other factions of the High Council. And though he didn't think Kiva would actually need it. It was better to play it safe. Now if she'd only agree to do it.

Just a heads up everyone. SunfallE has informed me that the issue with the objectives has been worked out so either later today or tomorrow I will be posting to get things going. This won't affect anyone directly, but you might want to wait on your post Takuya until mine goes up since SunfallE tells me that it will be laying the ground work for what your characters will be doing. Anyway... I'll be back and then we'll get going. It's definately time for one of those Council members to get executed.

I rather liked that first edition as well. The layout with all the links was great, as well as all the articles. Some of those posts got rewritten several times to make them as mean as possible. lol I enjoyed writting up Brittany's the best, but as far as follow up, I like BKstyles with Nadia the best. DB's follow ups sucked. :p After that I liked Rach's since he had the punishment do her in.
Thank you for the advice Aaryana_Mom. I understand what you are saying, and while I find that it is more than likely the correct reasoning, I just couldn't call the authorities on someone who has yet done any physical harm to me, nor could I attack him less that be the situation. Again, I do intend on going with the peaceful route, and hopefully this will result in a much more friendly relationship between me and this fellow should everything go well. If not, then hopefully nothing to badly will come of it. If things do become bad, I fully plan on reporting it to authorities.
In the end, even though I gave you a hard time about pride as well The Boss, it's only because I'd hate to see anyone hurt if it wasn't necessary. So long as you've got it in mind to be as peaceful as possible when dealing with this guy, and are willing to as you put it, leave a dishonorable fight behind to get assistance. I'd say your set. It's really sad that people just won't let such silly prejudices such as skin color go. But yeah, stick with the attitude of handling things as peacefully as possible and either defending yourself or getting outside help if the situation warrants it. And if possible avoid the jerk altogether. Though I'm not sure how feasible that is.
Prem - because he and I are buddies, and because I want to put electrodes on the sides of his head and shock him until he gains the ability to think.
I'm game, and I'll even help you put the electrodes on.
Rachmaninoff/SunfallE/BKStyles/Aaryana/Aaryana_Mum - the reason I've listed them all together is beacsue their personalities are so similar that they sometimes feel like the same person to me XD We would make an awesome club. They could pick on me for being youngest lol. Oh, and while they aren't quite the same personalities, Sandy and indifference should totally ne in this club too. And Darren. >_> He can bring hell along if he really wants too
Oh I suppose they seem so similar because SunfallE, Aaryanna and Aaryanna_Mom are actually nice. Rachmaninoff and BKstyles are just ruffians. :p [Though I'm willing to bet that it's because both of them are gentlemen] Still other than Rach [who I already know and dragged kicking and screaming into the world of anime and thus to myO and OB] it would be fun to meet everyone you've listed, hell I'll even meet you so I can smack you in person DB.
The staff[/B'] - I say that cause I'd love to have a get together with all of you. That would be the funniest party ever!
I'll second that. Because it's true and it makes it easy for me to be lazy and not list each of them individually. I would imagine that Des would be the life of the party while James would be the one with the cutest accent. There's a lot of other's I'd be interested in finally getting to meet, such as DeathKnight, Gavin, DeadSeraphim, Mariskah, Shy, Allamorph, etc. There's more I'm sure. But the one I'm looking forward to the most is meeting SunfallE and Aaryanna at the Anime Convention at the end of the summer. It's just too bad she won't be able to bring that cute little dog of hers along. :)

Copycatalyst I will be direct, you really need to learn to stop insulting everyone who doesn't instantly see things your way and let it go. In other words go and pet spot and chill. No one wants to have a discussion where you set up the rules from the very beginning and shoot down their perception of how things are. You're never going to get someone to have one of those discussions if you keep implying that they are too stupid to grasp what you are getting at. Also you may want an in depth discussion but others do not. Accept it and move on. Its not that big of a deal if people want to believe that Beauty is subjective. Arguing with them over it isn't going to change their minds. If anything, like Rach, all they're going to do is ignore you.
