I wouldn?t completely blame the parents in cases such as described in the article. After all it sounds more like it?s a combination of social pressures and even more pressure that having such a problem in your family is unacceptable to society in general. So you have the problem of being expected to succeed and when you fail or feel incapable the person withdraws from everything. And then because it?s considered ?shameful? instead of trying to seek help, the family instead hides what is happening from the rest of society. I don?t see any real changes happening until the society as a whole starts to work on not looking at the problem as being shameful. Though I?m sure they already are. I feel bad for them since it sounds like many of them probably suffer from depression and that probably just made the whole situation worse. And the longer you hide from it, the harder it is to overcome it. And I?m sure many of them could benefit from treatment or extensive socialization to help them move back into society. It reminds me of the stigma that use to be and still does surround psychology and getting therapy in the US. The idea that you might need help to overcome problems was and still is considered a weakness. Even though we are a highly dependant society. It's gotten better, so hopefully the same will be true over in Japan. That they will get better at helping these kids instead of being shamed by them.

Anyway, I'm glad the man's being sentenced to death, and that's coming from an anti-dp man. I'd like to see a picture of him right before he's hanged, with the noose around his neck and his bewildered face.
If there is anyone who deserves the death penalty, he is definitely one of them. And as mean as it sounds, I too wouldn't mind seeing the same picture.
There's something about seeing a mass-murderer reap what he sows that gives me satisfaction.
Quoted for truth. myst, I will be closing this since the type of posts we like to see on the OtakuBoards are ones that will generate quality discussions, the ?add words to the story? threads do not meet that criteria. Just take a look at this and you will see why: Three Word Story These types of threads tend to degenerate fairly quickly, which is why they are not allowed. If you really want to be part of a story just head to the Adventure Inn where you can either start your own RPG or sign up for one of the ones listed. Abstinence Programs for adults?
Horendithas replied to ChibiHorsewoman's topic in General Discussion

While I can sympathise with you situation indifference, I have to admit I've always felt that it's better to teach abstinence first and then later discuss safe-sex methods, but maybe I'm just really old-fashioned that way, or just really Catholic, take your pick. I guess I've never seen condoms as being any better an alternative to abstinence though I agree people do need to be able to make that choice for themselves as to which they prefer.
I really have no problem with teaching one method first. It?s the only teaching one method that bothers me as it comes across as an attempt to force Christian moral values on others. I can see where you are coming from and perhaps it is different where you live, but they don?t teach other methods here, and that in my opinion is stupid. Teenagers and young adults need all the options so that they can decide for themselves which method is the best.
What's wrong with having to ask for them ? Seriously just because you might be a bit embarrassed to ask for a pack of condoms does not mean the government are trying to prevent you buying them. My local pharmacy keeps them behind the counter, but in plain view and it's done to keep them out of children's hands.
You misunderstood me. I myself am not embarrassed, but in the course of my job I work with women who are seeking alternatives and I often get asked where they can get them without having to ask for them. ;) Also, and it?s my fault for not explaining this upfront. Many of the stores that do keep them where you have to ask, didn?t use to. It?s something that?s been changed within the past year. Though I suppose that could be due to theft issues and not an intention to embarrass others. I guess I?m just too use to there being an ulterior motive when aspects of this type of subject are discussed where I live. -
Abstinence Programs for adults?
Horendithas replied to ChibiHorsewoman's topic in General Discussion

Personally I think people are getting a little uptight about this, sure coming from OB's resident Catholic this may sound slightly hollow, but this is simply an education program designed to give people another perspective on sex.
The reason some of us sound a bit uptight is there isn't other education on preventing pregnancy. Here in Utah, the schools only teach the kids to not have sex. A few places do offer a more education, but not very many as it?s frowned upon to tell kids or young adults to use condoms or birth control. If this idea of the Bush administration was an addition to a program where they explained safe sex, using preventive measures and then the benefits of abstinence, then I wouldn't be bothered. But where I live many of the schools and centers do not offer any form or education other than not having sex. Which in my opinion makes things worse as the kids and young adults aren?t very familiar with all of the options, only the one of never having sex. And if you think that?s bad some of the pharmacies and stores put condoms behind the counter so you have to ask for it instead of being able to get it and purchase it using one of the self-service check outs. So they make it harder for people who are self conscious about making such purchases. So some of us see this as another attempt by the government to try and tell people what to do instead of really giving them informed choices. -
Abstinence Programs for adults?
Horendithas replied to ChibiHorsewoman's topic in General Discussion

The Bush administration just seems to take it to strange extremes I'd never expect a developed Western country to take, though. It's almost tragic, watching it from afar. Almost.[/color']
It's the watching it up close that's really sickening. The attitude of it's alright to waste the taxpayers money on issues that aren't their concern is equally as sickening. A how dare those people have sex and kids outside of marriage! They shouldn't be having sex at all! So instead of offering education on safe sex and using preventative measures they want them to not be sexually active at all. And I don't know about others, but being one of those women in that age group, I've never been one for a totally chaste relationship, especially when it's fairly easy to protect against getting pregnant. Though they are forgetting that some of those un-wed mothers as they put it, want kids without being married. And as Aaryanna already mentioned, they are old enough to make that decision. Just as I am old enough to decide if I want to be sexually active or not. -
Anime Animes That need To be Remade , Revised, or Redone
Horendithas replied to Kenshin DX's topic in Otaku Central
I agree with you about Case Closed. I enjoy that series, as it really is fun to watch. The way it?s done with little details being right there in plain sight to help you solve the clues is very well done. But like you said they?ve been needlessly dragging it out with filler episodes due to its popularity over in Japan. I?ve read some of the manga to this show as well and I?ve run into inconsistencies in that there are episodes that in the manga they actually did deal with the
Men in Black
aspect of the show, but the anime version was changed making it an individual case instead. Something that I would imagine was done to keep the series running. I too wish they would quite dragging it out and finally end it. As much as I enjoy it, the idea of having to watch over 400 episodes and possibly 500 at the rate it is going, is enough to make me throw my hands up in disgust and go watch something else. So I'd like to see some of the filler episodes trimmed out and the ones that were modified put right. And most importantly end it instead of making even more pointless filler episodes. -
Abstinence Programs for adults?
Horendithas replied to ChibiHorsewoman's topic in General Discussion

DeadSeraphim I almost always agree with everything you say and you always make me laugh, but I don?t think they?re trying to promote the whole Christian stuff. I think you might be looking a little to deep into it. Although the whole not have sex is stupid they should have some other program for free condoms or promote safe sex rather than no sex. (I have a weird feeling this is gonna be another bush bashing thread?. that?s just me though :animeswea )
Ah but it is driven by those who have Christian values. And Bush is well known for sucking up to them. One would think that promoting things like safe sex would work, but here in Utah the government literally turned down millions in federal aid to schools because they refused to offer sex education in the High Schools. Some do, but quite a few do not. Besides as it says here in the article:
The new federal guidelines note that the highest rates of out-of-wedlock births occur among women in their 20s, not among teens.
It?s obvious that their biggest complaint is that women who are not married are having children. And honestly, since when was marriage required to have a kid? That?s called Christian Values as usually religion is the one that frowns on people having sex or kids outside of marriage. Still don?t think it?s driven by Christian Values? What about this part of the article?
"If the goal is to reduce unintended pregnancies, there is something called birth control," Wagoner said. "And the government should be promoting it."
I?d like to know the same thing, if they just want to prevent babies why promote the idea of just saying no? They would get better results promoting the use of condoms and birth control. But instead they are going on the tangent of just say no. At this point, I?m beyond being surprised by the stupid things the government wants to spend money on. -
Anime Central Guidelines Welcome to Anime Central, the center of anime discussion on OtakuBoards. There's only a few guidelines to keep in mind when posting here. 1. You're free to discuss pretty much anything anime-related here but please look over the first couple pages before posting a new thread to avoid repeats. We also maintain a [thread=38208]Thread Directory[/thread] to catalogue general discussion threads for specific series. 2. To avoid revealing major plot elements of an anime under discussion, please use spoiler tags. They black out the text between them, requiring others to highlight the text to read the spoiler. Example:
[spoiler]This is a spoiler.

Becomes:

This is a spoiler.

3. Threads that don't spark conversation should generally be avoided. Search threads, asking where to find something, are one example; simply use Google instead. Favorite threads, asking what people's favorite whatever is, are another and are only permitted if reasons are given for people's choices. If you have any questions, feel free to PM one of the Anime Central staff and we'll be glad to help.

Request [RPG/Event] Request for a logo or banner for my Otaku Idol 2 Event
Horendithas replied to Sandy's topic in Creative Works

I found two candidates that I like for the background picture, however[/I'] if you think you have a better picture, I'm open to suggestions.
Well I wouldn't say that the picture is better, but it is different and thus I'm using it to give you more options. Anyway... Here is a banner and a logo. If you like them I kept a copy in psd format so I can make changes if you want me to.
One I would like to see is Dragon Quest VIII Journey of the cursed king. It already has a wonderful storyline and well developed characters. And the whole storyline along with magic and an evil
lord of darkness[/spoiler'] would really fit the anime format. It's almost like an anime tale that was turned into a game so I'm thinking it would be easy to make an anime of it. ^_^
I would like to see this game made into an anime as well. Especially since as you mentioned it plays more like a game that was based off of an anime instead of just being a game. The only problem I see is coming up with a voice for the hero, as he doesn't really have one. It would seem a bit weird. And if they gave different voices to the other characters, well that would be equally as weird as they are pretty distinctive and done well in that they really fit the characters.

I guess it depends on your definition of good. I don?t really eat a lot of the foods you have mentioned so I haven?t really noticed the trend that you are mentioning. I am a bit of a health food person, but I tend to avoid the main stores like Wal-Mart and shop at smaller health food stores where when you walk in the door you expect to find the more healthy stuff as that?s what they sell. And though I would argue that such stuff is unhealthy, at the same time I would also argue that a person should have the right to choose. Or at the very least still have some of their original choices instead of outright removal of everything. Considering how easy it is to find food that isn?t really healthy for you, fussing over snack and junk food doesn?t really change people?s eating habits in the long run. I would also imagine that part of the problem might be where one lives as well. Since I live in the State Capital, I have no problem finding what I want. Where my parents who live in a smaller town often have to drive elsewhere if they want a bigger selection of goods. Either unhealthy or healthy for that matter.

I don't think I was being lazy for asking more background to the start of this post (again, not out of interest but out of principle) instead of googling/going to Wikipedia. As an (overexaggerated) example, let's say I started a thread asking opinions if Anneli Jäätteenmäki was persecuted to step down from her office as a Prime Minister, without putting any background of the situation to the post. Now, would you use google, or just go "huh?!"?
You're being over sensitive; I didn't quote you because I was not implying that you were being lazy. I was simply pointing out that it was easy to find the information and nothing more. I?m not questioning the reasoning behind asking a poster to put more information in the opening post of a thread. That?s pretty standard and expected. Of course I would use google, because the opening post caused me to go huh? So naturally I would want to know more. And then being a mod I would turn around and explain to the poster that a bit more information when creating a thread is helpful. However at this point, it's hardly necessary as so many others have already done so. So there would be no need to repeat what you yourself already mentioned in this thread. EDIT: It would be more accurate to say that I was implying that for the creator of the thread, it would have been simple to do what I did. Search google, and then provide a link to the details about determining the cause of death. An act that took less than a minute to do.
-
Well finding information on this was simple, google is after all your friend when it comes to these things. And with that being said: Article Here?s the article on the findings of that testing that solved the mystery behind the death of the horse. Others have already said it, but it looks more like the work of gangsters instead of America the country. A financial issue due to illegal betting and such and nothing more, the gangsters just happened to be American, or so we are assuming. They could have been from different countries themselves. Gender segregated classrooms? Yay or Nay?
Horendithas replied to ChibiHorsewoman's topic in General Discussion
Defiantly nay. Others have already touched on the reason why. Life isn?t separated and keeping the kids apart in that manner will only hurt them in the long run. They need social interaction to help prepare them for dealing with a world that is not separated. Also, as others have mentioned, exposing them to different ways of learning will only better prepare them for the challenges they will face in life. It?s a nifty idea I?m sure, but very flawed. If the kids can?t learn to study and do well with distractions in school, then they aren?t going to be able to do it in the workplace. I can see doing what Aaryanna_Mom mentioned where they can have a few classes like that. That would be helpful for students who are struggling with certain topics and yet still keep them in an environment that is mostly mixed. But beyond that, I?ve never been a fan of separating students based on gender. -
Anime Animes That need To be Remade , Revised, or Redone
Horendithas replied to Kenshin DX's topic in Otaku Central
I would love to see the first couple of seasons of Sailor Moon redone. For one thing it was one of the very first anime shows that I was introduced to and another, since so much of it was edited and never dubbed in the first place, the dubbed version is downright horrible. Close to fifteen episodes in the first two seasons was left out all together. You can get the subtitled version, but I would have liked to see it done right in the first place. Another reason is there were also a lot of filler episodes, especially in the Pegasus Arch. And characters that were in the manga were left out all together. So it would be interesting to see it redone where it matched the manga better. They defiantly need to get rid of those filler episodes. -
Anime Manga That Should Be or Has the Possiblitly of Being an Anime
Horendithas replied to a topic in Otaku Central
Welcome to OtakuBoards God's Bane Please work on your post quality and put more of a emphasis on discussion since here at OtakuBoards we try to have quality discussion in all of our forums. For example you could have take the time to explain why Ragnarok would make a good anime. Also, it's a good idea to search and see if it already has been animated which in this case it already has been turned into an anime, just take a look here: Anime Simply listing a manga saying it should be animated is spam. So due to the spammy nature of this thread I am going to close it. If you still are unclear on the rules and such look on the left hand side of the forum and look at the Rules and FAQ. Manga i made a manga and wanted comments on story line

I?d listen to them If I were you. These guys are evil. [/FONT']
Thank you for the compliment. :p Seriously though, if you think about it in the long run it will get you more fans. I?m sure I?m not the only one who finds lots of grammar and spelling errors annoying. I know if I went and bought a manga from the store I would be furious if it hadn?t been properly proofread and prepared. As for your story, personally I think it would help if you had more information on the characters and their background. Like some background on the two different races as it would give the readers an idea of what?s going on, or rather why there is a battle in the first place. Some more information on the current characters plus like others mentioned, it could probably use a few more characters who aren?t the main one?s but are part of the story just the same, like the teachers and fellow students your character runs into at High School. Does he have a best friend? Or a girlfriend? Things like that. -
Welcome to OtakuBoards Net_Raider, Just a reminder that all members are required to review the Rules and FAQ located on the left side bar of the forum. Welcome to OtakuBoards gokulinksephiro Please work on your post quality and put more of a emphasis on discussion since here at OtakuBoards we try to have quality discussion in all of our forums. For example you could have take the time to explain why DragonBalll Z is your favorite show. Simply listing a show as your favorite is spam. So due to the spammy nature of this thread I am going to close it. Also the Anime Lounge works under a system known as one thread per anime, so if you wish to discuss anything related to DragonBall Z just check the directory at the top of the forum for the show you want to talk about. Manga i made a manga and wanted comments on story line
Horendithas replied to takashi tao's topic in Otaku Central
Well first of all I would recommend using a program like word or hotmail as your post is full of grammar and spelling errors. This is something that we ask all members to do as it just makes it easier to understand what you are saying. Also a quick look at the rules shows: At OtakuBoards, we greatly emphasize the concept of having clear, easy to read posts. This includes correct use of spelling, grammar and punctuation. So it's definitely something you'll want to get in the habit of doing for all of your posts. -
Welcome to OtakuBoards SasukeUchiha321, First of all I'd like to direct you to the site Rules and FAQ located on the left side bar of the forum. There you will find that double and triple posting is not allowed. Also, it's a good idea to read the rules for each area. For example, this area is for discussing different mangas and not for RPG's. We do have an RPG section of the boards called The Arena, the place you want to start is in the Adventure square and Adventure Inn where you can read up on how to start your own RPG. So since this thread is in the wrong spot and it does not meet the requirements for an RPG I will be closing it. If you have any questions feel free to pm myself or another member of the staff. ~indifference Thread Closed

When I say New York, what do you think of?
Horendithas replied to ChibiHorsewoman's topic in General Discussion
When someone says New York City, the first thought that goes through my mind is I was born there. But then I also think that since my parents moved when I was four, that other than a few images of tall buildings, which may be New York City or may be somewhere else, I have no memory of living in that place. So it?s basically the city I know and yet don?t know. I have been there a few times since I got older, but other than going shopping with some friends, nothing really stood out in my mind. Except a couple of stores that had some great anime art book selections as I love to collect art books. -

I don't understand the desire to die as I have never felt it, but I've worked with those who do and usually most of them don't have a plan that includes possibly killing others when they do attempt to kill themselves. It's sad and horrible and since she survived, she's going to have to live with the fact that her stupidity took another person's life.
