What OtakuBoards members would you like to meet?
Horendithas replied to Boo's topic in General Discussion
I?ve been meaning to post in this thread. The only problem I see is that the list of people I would like to meet is rather long. There are quite a few people here who I would like to actually meet. Anyway? Mariskah; SunfallE & Aaryanna: Primarily because they were the very first friends I made here. I met all three of them over at myOtaku before I became a member here. That and since they all live in Utah meeting them would rather cool since they live close to where I am. James: Because he?s the first person I ever chatted with using a program like AIM. Most of my friends either live close or don?t use the Internet. So I want to meet one of the friendliest people I?ve ever chatted with online. Desbreko; Panda & pretty much all the moderators here, because watching them in action helped me to learn so much about the boards. Plus all of them are fairly nifty and downright cool. And then there are all the amazing artists and those who do RPG?s and the list just goes on and on. In all honesty, I?d love to have some big OtakuBoards get together where we all went to the same anime convention or something. That way I could get to meet quite a few of the people here. :) -

For myself I actually don?t have a strongest emotion. I?ve found that if the situation is right any emotion can be very powerful. For example, when my older brother died, I?ll never forget the feeling of sadness and grief that I felt. It was months before I could think about him without wanting to cry. If I were to gauge my strong emotions by how long they last then sadness would win as I?ve never had an emotion last as long as being sad over my brother?s death did. I?ve had times when something has made me furious, or happy and those emotions were just as strong as the sadness was, but none of them lasted for months. At least not at the same level of intensity.
I feel exactly the same way. Most of the emotions I have experience have all been at one time or another fairly intense. And yet in the end only the sadness over my brother, who also is dead, has ever lasted for such a long time. I suppose the only other emotion that came close is anger combined with rage. Partly because even though the person who killed him is in jail for life, part of me for the longest time wanted to kill him for what he did. I would not act on such feelings, but I still experienced them just the same. And occasionally I find a tiny part of me still wishes he had been put on death row instead of just imprisoned for life. If I could choose anything at this moment, I would say an all expenses paid trip to Japan. It kind of annoys me that my father took me along with my mother several times on a business trip, but I was not quite five years old and other than some vague memories I don?t remember much. So I?d love to go and visit the area where he went and where they have pictures of me with them just to see if being there seems familiar to me at all. Once I did that I?d probably go on a shopping spree and get all sorts of anime goodies to bring back home. :)

I guess I?ll finally put my two cents in so to speak. I don?t really have a list of things I consider perfect in a guy, but rather a list of things I don?t tolerate very well. Number one, no smoking. I have asthma and allergies so I?m sure you can see why such a habit would ruin things for me. To put it bluntly, if he?s smoking, I can?t breathe properly. And if I can?t breathe, that means no sex. I?ve never been one for a totally chaste relationship. Second, keeping themselves clean. Nothing personal but some guys have yet to figure out what the word deodorant is. It?s downright disgusting to go on a date only to realize that you can smell your date before you even open the door to let them in. And third. No sports fanatics. Why? Because it gets really old dating someone who will do nothing but go to sports events, watch sports on TV or only talk about sports related topics. I don?t mind some sports, but all the time, even to the point where he won?t go to movies or out to dinner? Yeah, that?s way to extreme for me. Other than that I?m pretty open as to what I expect. Oh and I guess I should mention honesty. Finding out that he?s been dating someone else at the same time is a big no in my book.

I?m glad to see that you are still working on this. I?d have to go and re-read this chapter, but it seems to me that in addition to tweaking the lengths of the paragraphs and the conversation, it seems that you have also tweaked the wording a bit. I like it as it flows a little better than it did before. I also like how you modified it based on what Aaryanna said about the character getting hurt was more of a not in the program vs. unable to produce such an effect. It had seemed a little off and I was just too brain dead to catch it. As for this statement:
I?ve thought about trying an RPG from the beginning of the story just to see what direction it would take.
If you do decide to start an RPG of this story from the beginning, well then I just want it known that I want to play this character here:
The alien was coldly beautiful with shoulder length silver blonde hair and a face that other than the silver eyes looked like it came right from a Vogue magazine. His dark green uniform couldn?t hide his slender yet muscular build. Jason was surprised that his eyes could look so cold and yet beautiful at the same time. He had never seen such a look in another person?s eyes, for some reason he didn?t understand he actually felt afraid of him.
I?d claim him as my character if that were possible. :p Anyway, I?m looking forward to the next chapter, even though I know what?s going to happen, just because I like how the small alterations are making it more enjoyable as it makes the story easier to read. ;)

I love fantasy and so far I think you have a pretty good start for your story. I like how Briana is upset over being required to dress and look like a human and the distain displayed by her familiar spirit over being mistaken as a hyper poodle is quite hilarious. I also like how Briana is annoyed over needing to help a human to avoid contamination of the water instead out of a desire to help him because he is actually hurt. Anyway, the only thing I see wrong is a tiny typo here where you used the word that instead of than before the 'your own skin'
It was no different that your own skin except that it kept you warm or breathed in the summer to keep you cool.
Anyway, I look forward to seeing more of your story. :)

What I would like to see is an option like in Tales of Symphonia where you can choose the level of difficulty. That way, even if the fight does fit a certain style and is easy to figure out, on the harder levels it would be more difficult as not only would it require far more hits to take them down, but even less hits on your part to end up dead. That way I could choose to have a difficult battle, or a rather simple one depending on my mood. It would also be interesting if the toggling the difficulty level up resulted in more aspects required to defeat the boss. Like on easy, you only have three steps, medium five steps, hard 8 steps and so on. Regardless of how they decide to do it. Even though I won?t be getting the new system, I?m still looking forward to when this game is released.

Otaku Is A Child Predator's Heaven (PG Thread)
Horendithas replied to Pagan's topic in General Discussion

While the online predators are in the wrong for approaching the underage girls (or boys in some very rare cases)
Before you start giving the wrong impression that boys being approached is rare I?d like to point out that in a 2000 study, the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children and the Justice Department said that one of every five young people ages 10 to 17 surveyed said they had received a sexual solicitation over the Internet in the previous year. Also current studies tell us that 1 in 6 boys will be molested before the age of 18. So the idea that only girls are approached is not correct. The issue about boys is that unlike girls our society tends to treat boys as cowards if something like that happens so many cases are believed to go unreported. If you really want to know more then check out this site. Internet Predators
ANYWAY, my point is that yes, the kids are also to blame for whatever evil becomes of them by being promiscuous on the internet, and yes, activity on forums like the otakuboards is less likely to get you molested than activity on myspace. But really, myspace is not the person to blame, the blame that everyone seems to pin on myspace should be shifted over to the kids themselves and their parents. The kids are the ones ignorantly attracting the attention of predators and the parents are the ones not monitoring their kids enough. (i am not saying that the predators themselves should not be blamed, the full blame goes to them for being perverts.)
You must be joking, blaming the kids for being molested? I?d like to remind you that by the law they are kids and not even legally able to be considered responsible. Predators know that they are young, inexperienced and many of them are masters at manipulating the children to eventually gain their trust. It?s a double standard to tell kids that they aren?t considered mature enough to be an adult until they are 18 and then to turn around and tell them it?s their fault if someone abused them. If anyone is to be blamed it would be the parents since unless someone takes the time to teach kids about the dangers of online predators, they won?t know any better. Just like teaching a kid that touching a hot stove will burn. It?s not knowledge that they are born with, it?s something that has to be taught. The very idea that the kids are to blame is absurd. Even if they know the dangers and they still meet a stranger anyway, you are still talking about a lack of maturity here and the responsibility falls completely on the predator who usually is an adult and knows better. Anyway, James, SunfallE and others in this thread already pointed out that pretty much any site can be used by predators and it?s up to the person, if their parents or someone else taught them, to do their best to stay safe. Manga Poll: Your favorite thing to happen in a manga.
Horendithas replied to Aberinkula's topic in Otaku Central
First of all please use something like word to spell check your posts as we have pretty high standards here at OtakuBoards. On topic: I like a little of pretty much everything you have listed. Though there are exceptions to each one. For example the cliffhanger, I don?t mind it so long as it?s not the end of volume one and you?re left wondering until volume two. If I know that I?ll just avoid it altogether until both of them are out. Big fights are nice, but not where your favorite character dies and magic fights in manga are boring. I like them much better when the special attacks are animated. Comedy is a must as it keeps things from being too serious, yet one?s that are nothing but comedy and never take themselves serious get old real quick. Characters being cornered is almost a basic for some types of manga as it?s the only way they grow as it?s often a grow or die situation. Though again, if that sort of thing is overdone it?s no fun either. Also, one thing you didn?t really mention is a good villain. Especially the type that at one point they seem so real to you that you can?t wait for them to die. I really hate the wimpy villain who is just misunderstood. -
What is this lack of respect towards women, huh?
Horendithas replied to a topic in General Discussion
Some people just seem to be inherently stupid and therefore ignorant and disrespectful towards everyone, even those they consider friends. It seems more like a case of they are a jerk and not that women aren?t being respected. I know plenty of guys who would never say or do something that disrespectful to anyone. So I don?t think it?s a case of guys are jerks. I can easily list women who are just as pigheaded and ignorant as that guy you dealt with. Our society does try to force people into certain roles, but in the end it?s a weakness inside them as it?s often easier to just follow what you?ve been taught or seen instead of learning to think for yourself and make your own choices as to whether or not you are going to treat others that way. It helps if your parents teach you to be nice, but in the end once you?ve grown up if you behave that way it?s your choice and saying your parents, TV or anything else is responsible is just another way of avoiding responsibility. The sad part is that changing is often so uncomfortable that people can?t take it and often go back to being what they are use to doing. Even if it means they are a jerk. So the best way to combat it is to make sure you don?t do it and set a good example to others, especially if you have kids. -

People are only supporting Israel because they are racist against arabs. The idea that anyone can support Israel after how many innocents it has killed, after how many people it has tortured and punished unfairly, shows just how skewed people morality is. You still think we're all terrorists and we all want to kill you. Grow up and start thinking for yourselves, and stop parroting your power hungry leaders.
The idea that people supporting something makes them raciest towards an entire group of people is not only absurd, but downright ignorant on your part to start calling others racist just because they don?t agree with your views. And what?s this we bit? No one here has said that all Arabs are terrorists. Take a dose of your own advice and grow up yourself.
Anyway, while I hope that no innocent Israelis are hurt, and while I am upset that Hizbollah's actions have brought so much destrution to Lebanon, I hope Hizbollah destroys Israel, gives them a taste of their own medicine. That'll teach Israel once and for all that it is not excused from the the rules of war. That'll teach them to stop collectively punishing our people for the terrorists they themselves have created from their constant oppression of our people. That'll teach them to destroy an entire country for their polical gain.
Let me get this straight, you?re upset that Hizbollah?s actions started this whole mess and yet you want them to destroy Israel? Isn?t that the same thing you just complained about that they can hurt us but not vice versa? How is wiping out Israel okay? You?re infuriated that Israel has as you put it ?created terrorists? and yet you are somehow okay with destroying an entire nation? There?s the loving enlightened view of love thy neighbor. Israel?s interest is in getting rid of Hizbollah not every single person over there. If they were they would already be deliberately targeting civilians instead of aiming at known militant locations.
An eye for an eye.
DeathKnight put it best, that sort of thinking just makes things worse.

It was just a generalization. lol[/color']
I know. :p I'm just surprised sometimes when others do react to things like this as if it's a big ordeal, which as you already pointed out, is not. ;)

Seriously, how many of you knew about the white PSP before reading this thread? I didn't.
Well I was one of those people who didn?t know about it. But then that?s more because I have no interest in getting one so I don?t pay attention to any ads about it.
It's funny that Americans made such an uproar about this, when it was never even displayed in the US. In the Netherlands it wasn't even an issue. Of course, Americans saw it on the internet, decided it was racist by their own morals and terms (newsflash: not every country in the world has had centuries of racial oppression)[/color']
Until this thread I hadn?t even seen the ads, and on some level I think people are overreacting and seeing something that isn?t there. Especially with the pictures posted, it?s obvious that no racism was intended in the ads. Not all Americans instantly cry racist when something like this is used in an ad campaign. I?m sure I?m not the only one to see it and not think it was racist.

I?ve never really thought of myself being a different age than what I am, which by the way is 25. Sometimes I feel a little older, but that?s more due to things that have happened in my life. Like when you lose someone you love. It doesn?t make you older, but sometimes it makes my life seem longer as there was the time before they died and the time after. It often seems like an eternity since that person was around. So I guess in that sense I feel much older than I really am. If I were to go by looks, I?m just under five feet tall and people often think short means younger. I?ve even had people think I was still a teenager.

For the longest time my extra time was spent putting in more volunteer hours at the Women?s Crisis Center and the endless run of homework. Now that I?ve met the required hours for school my volunteer time has gone down to about ten hours a week and with only two classes this summer I?ve had a lot of free time. Though it didn?t take long to fill it up with playing video games, reading books for fun instead of for a class, spending time with my friends and lately I?ve been helping a number of the neighbors with doing yard work. Many of them are getting on in years and stuff like mowing the lawn, weeding and putting the trash out is difficult for them to do. Though the side benefit of that is my landlady gives me a deal on the rent since it would cost a lot more to have someone come and do everything for her. I?m kind of sorry that the summer is half way over as this fall will mark my senior year in college and I?m going to miss having enough free time to pretty much do what ever I want. I?ll be happy to work towards graduating, it?s just been nice to not be so busy for a change.

Decent people can win wars, as long as you have a good strategy. The muslim army was under constant threat from the tribe of Quraish in Muhammad's time. The muslims fought and won against armies larger and far better equipped than them. And although islamic governments and their armies aren't decent nowadays, the muslims in muhammad's time certainly were decent, fair people.
There is nothing about war that is decent. The idea that armies or people in the past were decent is stretching things. None of us lived back then so we haven?t a clue whether the governments were decent or not. It?s fairly common for countries to conveniently forget to record events that put them in a negative light. It?s part of why uncovering such things is considered a scandal. I see no reason why people in the past would be any different. So telling me that they were at one time decent fair people is something you can?t even prove. Others have already pointed out that those responsible for kidnapping the soldiers are not going to willingly give Israel a target that doesn?t include civilians whether they are innocent or not. Even if they only target military bases, you still are going to have people who are not soldiers, but merely their families who will also get hurt if they live close to the locations. To expect Israel to do nothing when provoked is naïve. Especially when the Palestines actions are those of a terrorist. Israel has often taken the stance of not giving into such demands so I have to wonder why they thought it would be any different this time.

Until a year ago I?ve always used Internet Explorer. Primarily for the simple reason that it came with my computer and it worked. I?ve never been good with computers so it never occurred to me to look for a different browser. I had heard people refer to Firefox, but honestly I didn?t even know that it was another type of web browser. Then a year ago when I upgraded to Windows XP Pro. One of my friends suggested I use Firefox instead of IE. So once they explained exactly what it was I downloaded it and started using it. The biggest thing I like better is the tab system. I occasionally use IE, but not very often. I like the tabs too much.

Considering that like Dagger mentioned anime has to be licensed and then translated before being sold in other countries. I don?t think anime prices are unreasonable. Especially when you do like Dagger suggested and keep an eye out for sales. Another way to get anime at a better price is to see if any stores in your area sell used DVD?s. I buy most of my anime second hand as $7-10 per DVD is much more reasonable than $30 for a brand new one. I also keep an eye out for the slim packs when they are released as often you can get an entire season for $30-35 instead of the same price per disk.

What would you outlaw in your fascist dictatorship?
Horendithas replied to DeadSeraphim's topic in General Discussion
Well first of all everyone will believe that there is nothing wrong and that being part of a fascist dictatorship is normal. Those rare few who see it and try to rebel will be dealt with. Since all the food, water and booze will be laced with drugs to keep people happy, those who are not will seem insane to the remaining 99.9% of the population. Depending on what mood I?m in they will either be put out of their misery, or put in a mental institution for the insane. Secondly all forms of domestic violence is forbidden. Anyone caught beating their spouse or kid will in turn be beaten just as severely, only instead of being rushed to the hospital for treatment like the person they beat up, they will be hung up in special cages through out the city where they will die from lack of water, food and exposure. Other crimes, well again it just depends on my mood, one week the punishment might be death, the next torture, the next being feed to hyenas in an arena where others can watch if they want to. Next, no religion allowed. Anyone caught attempting to start or belong to one will be executed. No exceptions. Last thing I need is more zealous idiots trying to use God or the belief that there is a God as an excuse to commit all sorts of atrocities. Being the dictator, that?s MY job. Classical music is the main music. Other types of music are allowed so long as it?s in your own home and I can?t hear it. No country, rap, or other forms of music with screeching sounds in it. So long as I can?t hear it I don?t care, but if I do you die. Which means in the main city where I live it?s outlawed completely. Classical or no music whatsoever. All you idiots who play loud annoying music at one am, I?m looking at you. And finally hygiene is mandatory, no coming to class when you haven?t taken a bath in days, or when you?re hung over from binging all night long. If I can smell you coming it?s over. -
Welcome to OtakuBoards madwitch5, I'm going to close this thread and direct you to become more familiar with the Rules and FAQ that is located on the left sidebar of the forum. Specifically the part about having clear, easy to read posts. This includes correct use of spelling, grammar and punctuation. So please take the time to improve your posts. Also a bit of direction as to what you are looking for will help as well, if you want someone to help you with techniques on drawing you need to be a little more specific. If you are looking for others to actually help you with writing or drawing your own manga you need to post your request in the Artist & Writer Recruiting thread located at the top of the Manga Workshop. If you have any questions feel free to pm myself or another member of the staff. ~indifference Thread Closed

Am I popular? When my parents first moved to Utah, definitely no. I was the perverted outsider who liked anime. A lot of the people here assume that all anime is porn. So I was actually extremely unpopular and since I was even being harassed by adults my parents finally arranged it so I went to a different High School. Once I started going to the new school, things changed. I wasn?t exactly popular, but I wasn?t unpopular either. I sort of fit in the middle. I had lots of friends and probably towards the end when I graduated I was fairly well known. Now that I?m in college, it?s rather ironic since I run into people I know all the time, from either High School (the one where I didn?t have problems) or from the people I?ve run into at my job. Sometimes I?m surprised at how many people I actually know. And for what ever reason I?m a little popular at the college with other guys. I get asked out on dates all the time. I don?t exactly do anything to attract others attention, so I assume that part of it is looks (I?m a little on the petite side and others say I?m pretty) and the other is that I?ve been told I?m nice and fun to hang out with. I agree with DW, being popular doesn?t mean you?re a jerk. It?s rather ironic to think that since the other people who are well known in my area, well it?s because they are nasty self centered, selfish brats who failed to grow up. So if being known by a lot of people makes you popular, well they did succeed, at least in the sense that people know to avoid them.
