Welcome to OtakuBoards demontrust I am going to close this thread for several reasons. First of all OtakuBoards is not a search engine. If you want to find anime conventions in your area you can use Google to take a look. Also, a thread?s main topic of discussion should be something that can spark an intelligent discussion of some form, and avoid spam. Since this thread is geared only towards getting a link to a website it doesn't meet this requirement. If you have any questions feel free to pm myself or another member of the staff. ~indifference Thread Closed

I was wondering what you guys thought about the immigrants protesting and not going to work this past Monday.
Honestly I think it?s a bit like watching a five year old throw a temper tantrum when they realize that they can?t just take something off the shelf at the store and keep it. They think that since they got into the store and took the item they should be allowed to keep it even if it?s breaking the law. I?m not against legal immigration.
Lets narrow this down a little with a slightly less broad, hypothetical example. You wake up one morning and a fellow is sitting on your couch watching your TV. It appears that he got in by breaking the lock on your door. He isn't doing anything harmful as such at the moment, just sitting watching TV and eating a piece of toast. You go up to him and ask him what he is doing. He says that he has come to live in your house because it is better than his. You ask him to leave, he refuses and then asks you to get him another slice of toast. You go to work, leaving the man there. When you get back there are four more people sitting in your living room. They have also come to your house because they do not like their own. The word spreads and soon your house is full of people who prefer it over theirs, you can't get moved, you're sleeping on the floor because a woman with her child has taken your bed. More still come. It isn't quite like that at the moment, but it could be.
That?s the exact nature of the problem. It?s not an attitude of attempting to end immigration but rather to not reward those who didn?t go through the process of legally becoming a citizen. The moment you let this happen is the moment illegal immigration will become a serious problem. Not to mention it?s terribly unfair to those who have taken the time to legally enter the country.
Now then, KatanaViolet mentioned something that really caught my attention when she said "The American Dream" and "The Land of the Free". Pretty much the U.S is all that and more, that is why people flock over here to achieve that, no matter what thier social or historical backrounds are or where they come from. If it's not the "Land of the Free", then what is it? The land of the ignorant and selfish?? Not to mention you all have to remember, the caucasian populations are immigrants as well, so just remember that. The only ones who are not are the Native Americans, so stop thinking your the supiror people and remember you all moved over here from Europe.....pwned!
How about The land of the educated? Think about it. If you blindly open your borders to immigration and millions of people come over all at once, the economy will not support it. America has the capacity to support quite a few people, but it takes time to build homes, grow food and develop jobs to support everyone. It would be like moving 50 people into a section of your town that?s only set up to support 30. Which is why people have to take the time to immigrate legally. As for the comment chastising Caucasians for being immigrants whether recent or in the past; that?s a Wag the Dog tactic that doesn?t change the current issue. Besides there are probably quite a few immigrants in that statement who took the time to enter the country legally. If you follow the logic that since other immigrants entered the country illegally and got away with it; I should too? well? then pretty much any argument about upholding the law is pointless.

When I first joined it was only to get help with a question I had about submitting Wallpapers at theOtaku.com. So once that issue was resolved I just stopped by occasionally. But then it slowly became more of a habit and I started stopping by to check the newest posts each day, even if I didn?t bother to sign in or comment. Now I visit every day.
I generally check out what new threads are starting up, read responses to current threads, stalk Des then I wander away from the site for a few hours. Posting wise I have become a bit of a lurker as of late. I read but don't write. It's very voyeuristic isn't it.
Exactly. I enjoy reading and lurking in the shadows. And the stalking?that?s the best part. :p
Also, by entering a person in an asylum there is a chance that their mind will become ever more damaged by the very acknowledgement that she is treated in a "special" way and looked upon as unstable, distancing her from others, thus making her more unstable. It's not pretty.
Not nearly as damaged as committing suicide. There?s a big difference between being admitted for suicidal tendencies and being admitted because you have a serious mental disorder. Most places keep the patients who are truly committed in a separate part of the hospital or in a different location all together. If your friend really is serious about committing suicide then definitely inform someone. Whether it's a teacher, parent or someone else.

Affirmative Action is all about eliminating past and present discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex, or national origin. Most of the opposition to it is based on the misconception that it?s causing reverse discrimination and unwarranted preferences. Last I heard, less than 2% of the employment discrimination cases pending before the Equal Employment Opportunities Commission are reverse discrimination cases. Besides anyone benefiting from affirmative action must have relevant and valid job or education qualifications. So it?s not a free ticket to getting the job. It?s more of making sure everyone has the chance to apply and not be turned away just because of race, sex or disability. It?s only natural that people are going to object since they are either afraid it will keep them from getting a job or in the case of some companies, they don?t want to spend the money making their work environment accessible to others. It cost money to retrofit an office to accommodate say someone in a wheelchair. So I'm in favor of it.

Did anything good actually happen at school today?
Horendithas replied to a topic in General Discussion
My day at school was quite simple. I went and took the last two final exams for this semester. I prepared for all my tests this week so I?m pretty certain that I got either 100% or pretty close on all of them. So I would say I had a good day at school. I always enjoy the end of finals week since it means I have time off before the fun begins again. And since I will only be taking a few classes this summer it made finishing up today even more enjoyable. -
I was talking to the modreator who said someone was flaming someone. I saw no such thing so I figured it was me.
It has nothing to do with either of you. The reason you do not see it Avenged666fold is because the posts were removed from the thread. You don't need to worry. So lets get back on topic all right? On Topic: Personally I could care less if some one were to tell me I was a loser for liking Anime and Manga. The truth is that whether it?s sports, classical music or any other thing you enjoy, there will always be people out there who think you are a loser for what you like. So I see no reason to get upset. Rather I think it?s sad since they don?t know what they are missing.

RPG OtakuBoards Survivor: Game On! Grande Finale [E]
Horendithas replied to Sandy's topic in Theater
It?s certainly been enjoyable following this event. Both finalists deserve to win but since I can only vote for one I will do so. (places her vote as well) Thanks to everyone who participated. I enjoyed every minute of it. I certainly hope you host another Survivor game later this year Sandy. -
What do you think are the best and worst foods?
Horendithas replied to Up4anime's topic in General Discussion
One of my favorite foods is tuna sandwiches, I love them with everything on it like lettuce, peppers, onions, tomatoes and a few other things. I also love salads. What I don?t care for is foods that have a lot of grease in them. Blech! It doesn?t matter what it is, if it has a greasy taste to it I don?t like it.
:EDIT:. Oh yeah, least favourite foods. I don't understand the bad rap most veg gets, considering it really doesn't taste of anything. But celery is the worst semi-edible thing ever. It's a green vegetable so it should just taste of water, but instead it tastes ... bad. And it requires more calories to eat than it gives you on digestion, which is why supermodels eat it. It has no nutritional value, and is nasty-tasting. Therefore, worst food ever. In fact, I petition that it should be declassified, and no longer considered food at all.
The trick to celery is to cut in into short little pieces about 3 to 4 inches long and then place them in a jar or container of water in the fridge. Try it sometime, it totally changes how the celery tastes. It?s very, very good. -
I don?t know if I would call it a confession, but I am very blunt and direct with my friends. I try to just keep my mouth shut but I tend to just tell it as I see it. For my closest friends it?s not a problem, but for new ones I often intimidate them even though that?s not my intent. For example recently I played a game of cards with my friends and some new people were in the group. One girl kept cheating and every time she did it I called her on it. Everyone else ignored it except me. As a result she took off in a huff furious over what I had done. I?m not really interested in being her friend anyway, but my direct approach didn?t give me a chance to find out what she is really like.
I also think that it is unfair to that Cartoon Network does that. I also think that they should stick to the old ones thatn having new ones that are so boring that they should know by now that people think that it sucks!!! :animeangr
As much as I would enjoy it if they always aired the shows I like, sooner or later it would get very boring since there would never be anything new on. Besides, until they actually air a show they won?t know if people like it or not. Just because one might do well in Japan doesn?t mean it will do well in other countries. Also if we followed the logic of only playing older ones, then most of what is on would be taken off since they are new compared to what was played several years ago or even a decade ago.

I don?t ever remember feeling jealousy towards one of my friends. There have been times when I was envious, but it was more of a I wanted a game or movie that they had. It wasn?t true jealousy. Truthfully being jealous of your friends is pointless as you are focusing on what you don?t have instead of what you do. I suggest you stop and take a look at what you have instead of focusing on what you don?t. You might even be surprised to find that you have things your friend would be envious of.

Up4anime I am closing this thread for several reasons. 1- A threads main topic of discussion should be something that can spark an intelligent discussion of some form and avoid spam. Simply listing a few shows without taking the time to explain why they made you cry is not much of a discussion. 2- Expected post quality. Not only does post quality involve the concept of having clear, easy to read posts, it also involves just how much a poster?s reply contributes, and expands to any given discussion. This is especially important when the post is the first one in a thread. Your opening post falls short of this expectation. Please take a moment to review this sticky on How to Post in Anime Lounge . A number of people are taking things in this thread way to personally. If you can?t discuss your views on this without insulting other members then don?t post. Since a good number of posts have already had to be removed, further flaming will result in the thread being shut down for good. Everyone is entitled to his or her opinion. I don?t agree, it may seem like over moderation but the rules are there for a reason. I?ve read: Otaku Lounge Rules and overall the thread didn't get off to a good start. The first response was fine, but the following responses were just short and spammy re-posting of the picture and saying it was funny. Seems to me that it isn't all that hard to say that's funny and then proceed to state how you thought platypus came to be or even post your own funny picture combination. There are plenty of threads that don't have super high post quality and yet fit the guidelines well enough that they are not closed. Just take a look at these threads: Choose...... and Be careful what you wish for. They are silly and yet fit in just fine since people put in the effort to put in their response instead of just commenting on what was said before. I think you missed the most important part of SunfallE's post, the " So I?m changing the basis of this thread to a general discussion on Duckbill Platypus and not just stories on how they came to be." Instead of closing the thread they left it open to either post your own story, your own picture version or just to discuss Platypus's in general.

Sorry about being vague, i dont post much. And i meant Isreal. This whole thing started becuase of Palestine and Isreal. Listen if you think these two children were the first you are very mistaken.Isreal owes Palestine many lives.Even though me personally, i dont believe in a eye for a eye or revenge, but i cant change a whole other nation's views or belief ,espiaccally the nation of Palestine full of fathers, mothers, sons and others that were lost.I mean that is what they started suicide bombing for.Listen they believe that they will go to heaven and that they are doing holy work , even though i am a muslim i dont believe that is right. They lost there loved ones that is what pushed palestians to this.If you do not believe on the genocide theory, then go look up the death count of muslims for the past 10- 100 years and see if i am only talking about 2 kids.Come on man, have you ever heard the term Abu-Gharib camps. If you havent look it up.
The very idea that Israel owes Palestine many lives is absurd. Nor did I say that the two children were the first. I simply said that the loss of two lives does not mean that all Muslims are going to be killed. Considering that it?s estimated that there are about 1.2 billion Muslims in the world I seriously doubt that the death rate is enough to even be close to genocide. Here?s a Website with some interesting information including this: Who is killing Muslims? "It is interesting that Muslims worldwide accuse the USA and Israel of killing Muslims, when in reality it is Muslims who kill Muslims. Osama Bin Laden has killed more Muslims in just one day (september 11) than Israel in one year. Various Muslim dictators (from Saddam Hussein to Mubarak) have killed thousands of Muslims. The soldiers who used gas against Kurds and Iranians were Muslims. The current wave of terrorist attacks in Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Morocco, etc is carried out by Muslims, and mainly kills Muslims (tens of thousands of them). It is interesting that Muslims worldwide refuse to admit the obvious fact that Muslims (not Americans and not Israelis) are killing Muslims. That's what the brainwashing of the Quran does: a Muslim is so convinced that all evils must be caused by infidels that he blames the infidels even for the Muslim who is killing him." Sounds to me like it?s the Muslims who need to stop the killing.
Sorry about that it is another case of being vague again. When i meant America i meant the government and there allies. We all make mistakes, but it is the first one the counts, like taking Palestian land and giving it to Isreal. Then America(the government )gave them weapons. What do you expect us to do.We are a simple religious, poor people. We cant combat the tanks or air strikes Isreal has slaped us down with.
?Despite the trillions of dollars earned with the oil trade, all the Arab countries together have a combined gross domestic product that is half that of Spain alone. No Arab country has invested in industry, services, agriculture.? If you are a poor and simple religious people then why are you blaming other governments? Don?t you ever wonder why your own government doesn't invest in improving the lives of their own people?

I don?t choose any side whether it?s Americans (which is what I am) or Iranians or Israelites. I just don?t think that any one side is right. Each and every one of the groups you have mentioned in your first post have all done stupid and idiotic selfish things. I do try to follow what happens to a certain extent, but at the same time a huge percentage of the American population has no say whatsoever in what happens in the Middle East. I get really tired of people wondering why or where was America when certain things happened. Especially when so many of the problems started long before I was even born.
Now I am Palestian myself and very optimistic and forgiving, but let me put it this way . If people came into ur home took your belongings, would you stand for it. When the people come in for dinner and soend the night , doesnt it get akward. This is why the Islamic world is very hostile. This is way Iran and Palestine are very violent because your people pushed us to be violent.Do you expect Iran to sit quietly while Palestian is beaten up. No they armed themselves and told the world what they were going to do.
Just which people are you referring to? Who is supposed to have made you violent? Your whole statement here is extremely vague. Are you trying to say that everything is America?s fault?
And maybe Iran leaders got a little carried away, like saying that the holecaust was fake. That is probably because they are in denial that the muslims are the next race in line for genocide. I mean look at all the things they out us through. Just the oyher day Isreal killed two 8 and 9 year old palestians and then they had the nerve to say they were looking for rebels.
Now I?m even more confused, what gives you the idea that Muslims are in next in line for genocide? I hardly think that the death of two children means that all Muslims are going to be murdered.
I mean they guy is paranoid right now because America( a enemy to Muslims everywhere) is sitting next door.
So now America is an enemy to Muslims everywhere? Since when was America their enemy? It?s foolish to blame an entire nation based on the current government. I would hardly consider all Muslims my enemy over the actions of a few. It?s this kind of thinking that turns me off on such subjects. Each side gets so busy blaming the other that they start to overlook their own mistakes.

Retribution: I like your choice of picture and colors, and though I?m not sure what you did I like how the picture looks like you added some graphic effects to it. I don?t know much about Che Guevara but the stark black and red does make it seem almost unreal. The one thing I do not like is the font. With the funky look to the person it?s to clean and crisp and seems to distract from the overall picture. White: Your picture is very clean and sharp and the character?s smile is very sinister. The choice of font fits as well and the V fading in and out looks quite nice. I also like how other than his hands, knifes and face the rest of the person is shrouded in darkness. The one thing I do not care for is the bright red background, it?s very distracting. I like both pictures but since I can only choose one I pick Retribution as I like the effects used on the main person in the picture.

Anime What anime do you wish you never saw in the first place?
Horendithas replied to serenayasha's topic in Otaku Central
Don't kill me!! Mine would have to be Yu gi oh because it's really lame that someone will go sooky because they lost a simple weak monster! The voices in it realy bother me too, they are plain. It sounds ordinary but just too ordinary that it's boring. Please don't kill me all you, Yu gi oh fans :animecry:
I can see why you would think that. Yu-Gi-Oh unfortunately is heavily edited, to the point that even though I really enjoy the manga I simply cannot bring myself to watch the actual show. I just cringe to see what has been done to it. If you get the chance read the first couple of manga?s in the series, I think you will be surprised at how different they are. -
I don't see why anyone would be against it. I don't think anyone could stop you after 18 right? It is supposed to be that land of the free! [Unless you people live somewhere else] I don't think anyone should be against it. In their past, one of thier uncles/parents/grandparents probably did marry a different race. And we are all human. I an not against it as I stated before.
I think the reason some people have a hard time accepting interracial couples is that until 1966 there were 17 states in America that actually had laws against interracial marriage. And all of the states regulated marriage between whites and other races. Even in the seventies there were still at least twelve states that had laws forbidding marriage between whites and other races. So I?m sure that for some its hard to learn to accept something that they were raised to believe was a crime. It?s easier for someone like me who was born after such laws were revoked, but I know my grandparents and other relatives often struggle with it. They try to understand but it?s not that easy to turn off 30+ years of thinking it was wrong. Personally I think they are a great idea, since I think love shouldn?t be limited by what a person?s race is.
My first guess would be that Yousuke is
an alley instead of a devil.
Mainly because when Pluie
kidnaps him, the attempt to corrupt him fails.
Though I suppose it?s possible that a stronger devil could
turn him into a devil later on in the show.

I forgot about that. It's been so long since I actually saw that episode. So have either of you seen the second season yet? I borrowed the set from one of my friends. I like the new intro & ending music. And there are scenes in the introduction that confirm the idea that Yousuke ends up being
turned into a devil
I like the introduction of the fourth love angel though it seemed like they resolved her
desire to kill the devils instead of purifying them far too quickly.
I just find it hard to believe that after feeling that way for so long she could get over it so quickly.
I guess I'll say this - I don't understand atheists. I don't know if I haven't tried hard enough to understand them, or I just don't, but I know that I get in a state of disbelief when I think of people that don't believe in a God. I respect their beliefs - go believe what you want - I just don't understand their choice. I... If anyone who is an atheist wants to answer my question: why don't you believe in a God? I'm just curious. I think it would help me to better understand the choice you make. I don't *have* to understand it by any means, but... I want to, if that's okay with you.
Well since I do not believe in God at all and my reason though similar is a bit different than SunfallE?s opinion I?ll take a moment to explain how I feel as well. Ironically The Boss hits upon part of why I do not believe:
It is stated in the Islamic texts that Chistians, Jews, and Islams alike all follow the same God. [/color']
I have yet to find a compelling reason to believe any religious text just because it has been around for a while, sure religions texts tell us that God exists, but at the same time those texts were written by another human being. There is no evidence or proof showing that some higher power or being wrote or gave them to us. So when someone tells me that God exists and can?t prove it, I see no reason to believe them just because it is written somewhere. Another reason and once again The Boss has hit upon part of my reasons:
Scientists and athiests may try to explain the world and our being through logic and science. Which is fine and dandy. But I think that those people should know better than any that their just can't be something without cause. They say that the universe was created by a "Big Bang". Well... what came before the Big Bang? What caused the Big Bang? What was there before the Big Bang's components came together? Why aren't there Big Bangs happening all over the place? There must have been something. Something that made all things into existance. I think it's just unexplainable without the possibility of God or some creator being a factor. [/color']
Since when did our lack of understanding how the universe works translate into there has to be a God? If anything I believe that since we do not understand the why and cause of things how can we possible understand how a person or higher power like God even exists? It?s a contradiction to say we don?t understand how things are created so therefore there must be a God who we can?t even prove exists. That kind of reasoning makes no sense. Just as religious groups think scientists should know better that to try and explain things using logic and science, they them selves should know better than to turn around and then say God exists and the fact that it can?t be proven is irrelevant. So in the end I do not believe in God since so far I have yet to see anything that convinces me that such a person does exist. Oh and The Boss, I hope you do not mind that I used your post to help me make my point. Your views happen to be similar to several of my religious friends.

Anime What anime do you wish you never saw in the first place?
Horendithas replied to serenayasha's topic in Otaku Central

6. Sailor Moon - Okay, don't hate it. Actually I'm still quite fond of it. It just annoys me because it puts girls in tight outfits and miniskirts and talks about morals. Ummm....contradiction?
You must be referring to the heavily edited version of Sailor Moon where all the talk about morals was added in. Try watching the uncut version, there is no ?Sailor Moon Says? nonsense in the original. The first two seasons had about 15 episodes completely cut out.
Ok I known that every anime is commercial in the way that they seek profits for their work, but where I live there are really two types of anime the ?commercial? which has no age restrictions that is shown on TV all the time and you can buy the DVD?s, Manga?s, toys, cards, games, and books just about anywhere you go, and the movies will be shown in any cinema. And the second being ?Cult?, which is just basically anime for audience over 15, which is only aired on cult night specials on SBS unless you have pay TV and you have to go to speciality stores to find the DVD?s and Manga?s, and you can only find the merchandise in selected stores in major cities if you lucky. Trying to get to a cinema to see one of these movies is even harder. But of course I?m sure it?s always easier to find these in major cities. The other thing is that in the smaller towns and cities anime is nearly always seen as kids cartoons or porn, so where I live pretty much sucks especially when your one of only three otaku?s in the entire town.
Actually that?s not completely accurate. Maybe here in the USA or other countries outside of Japan you can only find tons of memorabilia for the popular kiddy shows. But once you get into Japan you can find all sorts of anime goodies for more than just the popular kiddy anime shows. As for a show I wish I had never seen, I would have to go with NGE. I actually enjoyed it at first but I really disliked the ending. It just felt like it didn?t live up to what had been happening through out the entire show. Maybe I need to watch it with subtitles, or read the manga, but many parts of the series didn?t explain what was going on. So when it did end I was sitting there thinking why is this considered such a good anime? It had potential but didn?t seem to live up to it. -
Well that introduction certainly leaves you wondering where you would fit in. I would assume that based on what you have written that the characters pre-date the third world war. That their mass exodus happened before the problems and eventual war with the hybrids. And then for whatever reason they either fell into a coma or were deliberately put into one for unknown reasons. Though I could be completely off. Still it gets you thinking about what is truly going on. I definitely see some plot twists lurking in that introduction. I?ll check out the sign-up when you post it as well.
