Anime Cartoon Network Line-Ups...and anime on television announcements
Horendithas replied to Syk3's topic in Otaku Central
Before this discussion goes too far off topic and into the Manga territory I?d like to remind people that we do have a thread for discussing the Bleach manga in the Manga Workshop . If anyone wants to continue discussing the Manga in depth please take that discussion to this thread: Bleach Zone (discuss Bleach manga) Thanks. ~indifference -
Anime Anime girlz Or What is your ideal anime girl?
Horendithas replied to kagomefruitcup's topic in Otaku Central
I?ve decided to merge these two threads together since they are so similar. Anime Girlz & What is your ideal anime girl? One is discussing features of anime girls in general and the other aims to explore what you find to be ideal about them. Both are discussing aspects of anime girls that we find to be interesting. When creating threads the Samaruimist it is a good idea to provide a good solid post for others to build upon. Your starting post falls short of this since other than to say you think the ideal anime girl would be a fusion between Kagome and Sango you didn?t explain why you think that fusion would be ideal. For example you could have been thinking along the lines that Kagome?s ability to sense the sacred jewel shards along with Sango?s demon slaying abilities make an excellent combination as such abilities would make recovering them easier. Please take a moment to review the Rules and FAQ on OtakuBoards policies regarding creating threads and other aspects of OtakuBoards. Now in keeping with the merge a good example of an ideal anime girl who is not drawn to be excessively pretty, does not have big breasts, and yet shines beautifully by just being herself is Tohru Honda from Fruits Basket. Here is a girl who in spite of hardships always looks out for others and does her best to help others see the good qualities in themselves. Watching her makes me feel like trying a little harder at being kinder towards others and trying to understand them a little better. It?s easy to want to dismiss others who are abrasive or struggling and walk away, and watching how Tohru deals with it helps me to see how easy it is to overlook others who are only looking for a little attention or love to help them have the courage to keep trying no matter how hard life can get. ~indifference -
Which you perfer?: Teaching George Bush how to read and write or Teaching a pig how to fly Actually I threw this question out there for fun and see how many people pick Geroge Bush!
I?ll take teaching the pig to fly. It may be impossible, but it would be more entertaining.
Here's your choice: A) Being able to punch an annoying, crying baby right in the face without any negative consequences, or... B) Being able to punch President Bush(or any member of his administration) right in the face with all the negative consequences?
Seeing as I already once got the chance to nail a crybaby when I was a kid I?ll take the punching President Bush. Some things are worth the negative fall out. Now for the next round Would you rather live in a cage with several hungry Grizzly bears for a week? Or Would you rather live in the same cage with teletubbies for a month?

The OtakuBoards Nifty Fifty of 2005 (Final)
Horendithas replied to Shy's topic in General Discussion
Those graphics are just absolutely amazing. I?ve been looking forward to seeing the results and I had no idea it was going to be so beautifully done. Definitely worth the wait to see the results. Congratulations to all who were nominated and to those who were selected. All of you have definitely earned it. And thank you to everyone who took the time to contribute. I know I will be looking forward to the next Nifty Fifty. -
I?ve always enjoyed anime that doesn?t have a definite ending. In a sense its as if the show can?t have an ending as that is how life is. You?ve gone through experiences and events and when its all said and done, life goes on. So there can?t be an end. There are some that in my opinion could have been done better though. Take Neon Genesis Evangelion. After all the intensity that the show built up it felt to me as if they ran out of steam at the end, it felt like a rushed job to produce the final episode. And then take a show like Fruits Basket. Although there was no final conclusion it still was done in a manner that to me left you feeling like some level of resolution had been reached. As for Yami no Matsuei, I am not unhappy with the ending, but I certainly would like to see more.
Tough one, depends really on how close you are to your current girlfriend/boyfriend. Personally as I'm single at the moment I'll go with the cheating one, as you could either take out your frustration by kicking his [the guy she's cheating on you with] *** or just go out and return the favour. Would you rather died by explosion ? Or Would you rather die by implosion ?
Is one less painful than the other? Well I'll just choose explosion, going out with a bang seems to apeal to me. If I had to die that is. Now.... Would you rather be with your true love even if it meant you would die in a week? Or Would you rather never know love but live a long life?

Well truthfully I like all colors. But right now my current favorite is purple and blue. But that can change as I go through phases of liking different colors for different reasons. I've never been able to just settle for having one favorite. It's more of a this color is my favorite at this moment. I just like too many colors to ever settle on just one. Espically when the seasons change, in spring I love all the pastel colors of flowers, in summer I love the bright cheerfull colors in flowers. And autumn changes my love of color to browns and reds and oranges as they are so beautiful. And even winter has crisp whites and the green of evergreen trees. I think my current purple and blue is the color of pansies since they are blooming where I live right now.

I?m having a problem with sending and receiving pm?s. For over a week I?ve had pm?s simply disappear. I will write the pm, check the box to keep a copy in my sent folder and though I get a message telling me that the pm was sent successfully the person I send it to gets a really old message instead of the new one and the message I sent doesn?t show up in my sent folder like they usually do. I tried testing it with a friend today and she got a pm I sent to her back in December instead of the new one I sent. In fact, every pm she?s gotten from me in the last week has been older pm?s instead of the current one I just sent. And so far not a single one that I have sent has shown up in my sent box making me wonder if each and every pm has been lost. Is there a problem with the pm?s? Or is it just my account that?s having problems? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I am not a graphic artist myself so it never fails to amaze me at the beautiful pieces all of you create. I know I?ve been enjoying seeing each new submission as it added to the graphic worm. You are far to hard on yourself Kitty as your piece is beautifully done. And I for one love the blue color. Anyway, I look foward to seeing more of this project. Excellent work everyone.

If you could have a store of your own..
Horendithas replied to animeaddict2's topic in General Discussion
If I were to open a store it would be a combination of many different stores. It would be a place where you go to get stuff for relaxation, like bath salts, aromatherapy, incense and books on how to do meditation or yoga. It would have candles and plants and classes on setting up a space in your home exclusively for going into just to sit down and take it easy. I would offer workshops to for people to learn how to do different types of relaxation activities as well. I would also want to have a top level where there are comfy chairs and bench?s among plants and the various things so customers could see and experience for themselves how relaxing and soothing such things can be. It would certainly be a lot of fun to do. -
Its a good point, and I can agree with it if it goes out to teenagers. But then again, why can't people just fit in as being theirselves? Wouldn't it be better to be like for who you are then what your wearing and what "label" your in? To me, if labels were not made, people would feel more accepted then feeling like they had to impress someone all the time.
I was talking more in general terms like knowing that someone is a teenager by the very name teenager or that you are black or white. Labels are identifiers that give someone a starting point as to who someone else is. I was being quite literal. Perhaps classification would be a better term as I was not referring to stereotyping.
Dear PeopleWhoAreBetterThanEmoKids, Since you obviously have nothing better to do than criticize people who haven't done a single thing to you, other than "annoy" - I'd like you to take this moment for some introspection. Whether someone likes "real emo," "old school emo," or Fall Out Boy/MCR/The Used, that doesn't make their choice of music any less valid than yours. If someone wants to cut themselves for attention or because they broke up with their significant other, good for them. Hell, if you want to wear girl?s pants, have at it. Grow up and learn to be accepting of people different of yourselves. Your lack of tolerance is disturbing, disgusting and juvenile.
Dear AssumptionsAreEasilyMade Complaining or criticizing someone else does not mean that the person doing the criticizing thinks that they are somehow ?better? than the other person. Yes people are different and yes they are going to find each other ?annoying.? I would think that discussing it in a forum *instead of doing unproductive things like violently attacking them or other such nonsense* would be a more constructive way of saying certain behaviors bothers you. What?s disturbing is expecting that everyone is going to instantly be tolerant of others. Anytime there is a new fad so to speak it takes time for people to get use to it, as they are not use to seeing people do things for that reason. Being a College student I don?t really encounter the people who say that they are EmoKids, but many parents find the trend alarming. And saying:
If someone wants to cut themselves for attention or because they broke up with their significant other, good for them.
?I sincerely hope you are joking.
hi im new here but thats not to say that i dont have an idea or two I think that the .com should possibly be abolished and changed to .wand or even .elf This would give the website a more mystical feel and I feel that it would imrpove the experience as a whole. It would also attract attention from people searching the internet for wands who might have an interest in the community.
I would have thought that the mystical feel to any forum website would be the members and quality of the discussions, not the actual web address. Other than to use it to get here I for one ignore it when I am browsing the different sections here at the forum. I really don?t care what the extension is, I?m more interested in whether or not the people are remarkable or if the site contents catch my attention. Changing it to one that currently doesn?t exist would be about as useful as shooting yourself in the foot. Like Desbreko said, most people would use the more common .com when looking and maybe .net and then .org And then there?s the question of all the members who have put the location of this forum in their favorites links. Changing the address would mean that they would get an error saying it can?t be found or something like that. A lot of people would just assume that OtakuBoards no longer exists and look for another one instead. I?m sure there?s a way to have it re-direct you to the correct site, but it just seems so pointless to go to all that trouble when it?s already established.
It's not what I consider to be real emo, it's simply what emo is. The main difference between emo and what is considered emo now is the fact that, well, they sound NOTHING ALIKE. To set things straight, I don't even like real emo. I can't get into it. I'm actually a fan of a lot of bands considered "emo" nowadays. The only reason this topic fires me up so much is the fact that these people, these kids, these "music" stations are taking something that was once respectable and basically bastardizing it. Emo has become the signature term for "whiny kids who cut themselves, can't keep their girlfriends, and cry too much". Now every kid in girls jeans, every kid with black hair, every boy in eyeliner, every girl wearing tacky jewelry, is automatically labeled emo. Scene and emo do not equal the same thing, yet somehow they've become one. Scene is a pretty crappy word as well, and I'd say it's hardly a term to be proud of, but when it comes down to labels, that's what the whole girl pants, band t-shirt cliche fits under. And it SHOULD mean something to them that it means emotive hardcore. "Emotional" could fit in almost any genre of music, so that doesn't even make sense. People should know what they're claiming before claiming it. But why do people need to label themselves, anyway? I guess fitting in is more important in the majority of today's culture than being yourself, and it's pretty sad.
There?s no point in getting upset over a word or term being changed. Society changes and so does the meaning of words to match. A huge percentage of all language changes in meaning on a regular basis. Sometimes it?s a positive change and other times it?s a negative one. I see no reason why a previous meaning should mean anything to the current generation. Unless you are studying history or writing a paper on the subject where knowing the difference is important, there?s just no reason to get worked up over it. In a sense these people know exactly what they are claiming even if they don?t understand where the word or phrase originally came from. Take the word mistress. Most people instantly think of a married man having an affair and that the woman is labeled his ?mistress.? But the truth is that until the 19th century the word mistress was the female equivalent of mister. It had nothing to do with adultery or an affair. It was merely an honorific that could refer equally to a respectable wife or a respectable single lady. Labels to some extent are there to help us understand who we are and to identify with others. It doesn?t really say who you are but it does give people a point to start with. Is it sad? I don?t think so, if you took away all labels it wouldn?t change the fact that people want to fit in with the crowd so to speak. And wanting to fit in is part of who you are.
T_T You guys made this book sound evil, now I'm scared of it, and it seemed so innocent too... screw it, I'm not meddling with psychological crap anymore.
The problem with the book is that people are taking it for truth when it is a work of fiction. Believe me you?re not the first person I?ve run into who thought that on some level it was real and what makes it worse is all the publicity has the author himself believing in the fiction that he wrote, I mean this guy actually wants to, and I quote, ?actively build a kind of community ? an association, if you will, of those who see the vision. If you find yourself reading this, and you feel the same way, email us, and we will tell you what we have in mind.? Quite frankly that?s a bit ridiculous when you consider it?s not the truth. There?s a word for such things? Cult. I wouldn?t let it scare you away though, from a psychological point of view it is interesting to read, so long as you keep in mind that it?s just a work of fiction.
Yeah. I think I've finally had it with all of this free speech stuff. Certain people have more rights than others. In order not to offend anyone, I will not provide any examples. I think that we should have "limited speech." So if you say something that someone doesn't like, you get fined. That's how it works in the public school system, so why not just everywhere else? I'm so tired of people complaining that they're offended. I think it's really time to let everyone else win...if you don't, then you'll only end up losing everything in the war. People like me who want REAL free speech and want to feel free to offend will never win. Some prick will always ruin it for us. I want to know what everyone thinks about this. I'm also just posting this to let at least part of the world (even if this little chunk of people really couldn't care less if I got ran over by a train) that I have finally given up. I'm letting the world win. I may even take out my piercing. It offends the school system, so why not just shut them up, right? Sorry, I'm just fed up. So, what do you think about this idea?
For starters I?m a bit confused on your stand about free speech. You say that we should have ?limited speech? but then you turn around and say? ?People like me who want REAL free speech and want to feel free to offend will never win.? I am confused since at one time you posted indicating that you should have the right to remove posts in a thread you started that you did not agree with. So does your ?limited speech? apply to everyone but you? Limiting speech at school is designed to provide an environment so that students can learn with out constant interruptions. Who would even want to attend school if they knew that others could spend the whole time saying things just to offend them? It would make attending school meaningless. There?s a big difference between having a different opinion than others and wanting free rein to offend anyone you please at any given moment or time. If you offend others or they offend you by not agreeing with your opinion or choices well all I can say is forget the idea of ?limited speech? for all situations and instead remember what Evelyn Beatrice Hall wrote: ?I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it.? That and the fact that you can always say what you want once class is over.

Retribution, Forgotten Raider and AzureWolf have it right. The Celestine Prophecy is nothing more than a new age work of fiction, it is in no way true or very accurate. Not only is it full of glaring mistakes but the ideas presented are not new but merely twisted or borrowed from other ideas. Take this passage:
?I could imagine the moon having already dipped below the horizon, and the exact reflected shape it would present to those who lived further west and could still see it. Then I imagined how it would look when it moved directly under me on the other side of the planet. To the people there, it would appear full because the sun over my head would shine past the Earth and strike the moon squarely.?
In this case the author actually believes or imagines that the moon dips not due to the rotation of the Earth but to the moon?s orbit around the Earth. The moon does circle the Earth but that is not what makes it set. It takes the moon almost one month to orbit around the Earth. It spends so much time on the other side, or any side, that it does not look all that different to all the longitudes of the world when they take turns watching it in the course of the twenty-four hours it takes the Earth to rotate once on its axis. The author has misunderstood even the most basic teaching of astronomy. I?m not the only one to see the problem with this and it?s not the only mistake in the book. I can recommend a book that touches on why people would even believe this book: Why People Believe Weird Things: Pseudoscience, Superstition, and Other Confusions of Our Time By Michael Shermer. Just read the chapter ?How Thinking Goes Wrong? The author explores the idea of coincidences in superstition.

White: Like Aaryanna I really like the saying. I especially like the placement of the words as having hate in the background just emphasizes that hate is always there underneath it all. I also like the choice of font for both hate and the top saying. The biggest thing I don?t like is all the extra space, it really is distracting to have all the empty space both above and below it. Take the extra space away and I would say it fits together perfectly. Retribution: The thing that sticks out the most is the excellent contrast of white and blue. It really makes the words stand out. I also like the placement of the word politik and the numer 06. Its crisp and clean and draws your attention to it. The main problem I have with your piece is the pink o in politik, I don?t care for the color. I also don?t like how the words in the background overlap. With so little of it being readable it makes it harder to understand what they are suppose to represent. I vote for White. Both pieces are beautifully done but I like the dark feel to White?s piece a little better.

My family doesn?t do anything for Valentine?s Day, other than my Dad as he always gets my Mom a really nice present and takes her out to a romantic dinner so to speak. Recently though I?ve been helping my landlady every year since the religion she belongs to buys little rose plants and they give one to each mother and single woman in their ward. Even though I do not belong to their religion it is fun helping her take the plants, or whatever gift they decide on, around to the members of her ward.
-
I don?t really have any religious beliefs. The more I study and learn the more I see that religious texts are documents written by people and I?ve learned that just because something is written doesn?t mean that it?s true. The fact that people are only choosing certain aspects of their religion could be that parts of them don?t feel right to them. I am only 13 but my Mom belongs to the Mormon Church. Until recently I was required to believe and had no choice but to attend church with her. But on some levels I completely disagree with the beliefs. For example the main leaders of the church are all men. I disagree since they tell you that the church is an equal opportunity place for all the members, but if that were true then the women could hold leadership positions as well. It took a while but my Mom finally agreed that I had the right to decide for myself. So on some level I think people have the right to question their religion. So only following part of a religion makes perfect sense to me. Many religions are claiming that their religion is the only true path, but can any of them really prove it? I think that totally believing in just one religion is limiting what you can learn as it is more likely that there is truth in all of them. At least that?s what I think. ^_^
I agree with Aaryanna in the sense that my beliefs are driven by not believing that any one religion is the whole truth. For me what doesn?t make sense is the idea that you have to believe everything a particular religion tells you. For me it isn?t a matter of only choosing aspects that appeal to me but rather I refuse to practice something that I do not believe in. Take Aaryanna?s religion where only men hold the highest positions in the church. I live in the city where this religion?s headquarters is. And they really do preach that everyone is equal in their religion. But it?s an illusion since women cannot hold the same positions that men do. It?s not an issue of equal rights but rather I feel that on some level it makes them hypocrites. And I do not feel comfortable following something that I feel is dishonest. Aaryanna also makes another valid point; just cause something is written does not mean it is true. To me my beliefs are shaped by the freedom to keep searching for what is true instead of just finding one religion and totally embracing their teachings.

The OtakuBoards Nifty Fifty of 2005 (Nominations Thread)
Horendithas replied to Shy's topic in General Discussion
The Staff: Whether it be OtakuBoards or any other part of the various Otaku sites here, they definitely do the most amazing job I?ve ever seen at a forum or site. The Members: I?ve belonged to many forums before this one and it?s been a refreshing change to be part of such an amazing community. In many ways its like being part of an online family. The members are just outstanding. Official Graphics Tournament: I really enjoyed getting to see all the amazing talent of the members here. I also really enjoyed the chance to be a part of it by voting on the work submitted by the artists. It?s an event that I definitely hope to see again this year. Seasonal Banner Changes: I really loved the Halloween banner and the contest which allowed members to make banners for Christmas. Another event I hope to see again this year. -
To make a banner without "the background," so to speak, just follow these steps. [1] Open up a new canvas. Be sure that the "Background Contents" are set to "Transparent." Without this, it's impossible to do. [2] You should see a canvas with checkered tiles. Those tiles signify that that area of the canvas is transparent, so currently, it should all be transparent. For example, if you were to put a black brush stroke through it, the brush stroke would be there, but the checkered tiles would also be there to show that the rest is still transparent. [3] Put your image on top (you'll have to extract your image out of the background so that it looks like it's 'popping out') of the canvas. [4] Save it as a .gif with transparency enabled. The rest of the settings don't matter, I don't think. If done correctly, you should have the 'pop out' effect. As for the border, I'm not entirely certain, as I've never really done it myself. Perhaps asking her yourself (she's currently Ezekiel

I don?t have a nifty picture like Brasil and Drix D?Zanth, but I do have one word to contribute: Trolling. I can see why the pictures were posted and I have to agree. In spite of everyone?s kind attempt to help this kid; every suggestion is met with an instant it won?t work response. I can understand wanting help if you live in a dysfunctional family, but there never will be an instant solution. I?m not going to bother repeating the same advise others have already given. I am sorry if you really are having such a hard time, but take the advise you?ve been given and do something with it and let the thread die. It?s time to move on and do something. I won?t say which path you should take since that?s something only you can decide.

What do you do when you have nothing to do?
Horendithas replied to 2010DigitalBoy's topic in General Discussion
I am bored. Like, really, really bored. So bored, in fact, that I plan to spend the majority of the time I'm not at school sleeping. What do you do when you have nothing to do? I don't wanna become a vegetable, you gotta help me!
It?s been so long since I didn?t have something that needed to be done I think I?ve forgotten what it?s like to actually be bored. Between school, work and chores I?m lucky to find enough time to be online or to do simple things like just playing a game or reading for fun. And in the past when I?ve had more spare time I still had hobbies to fall back on as I like to go hiking or do scrap booking. Are you sure you really have absolutely nothing to do? Or just things to do that you aren?t interested in doing? If I were to count things I don?t care for, like cleaning, then I could say I?m bored since it?s not what I would prefer to be doing. -
