Definately a nice surprise and quite cute. It was really quite funny as I had been browsing in the RPG area when the switch was made and when I left and it said *shrug* I ran out of ideas.... I was thinking what the heck? :::chuckle::: And the pumpkins and top banner with the hang around for a while are great too. Till later.

Name: Sena Henderson Gender: Male Age: 18 Day Appearance: Day Night Appearance: Night Personality: Sena is a cold-blooded killer despite his youth. From the time he was barely thirteen any living thing was fair game for torture and destruction. He has an iron will and determination and the patience to wait for months for the right moment to claim his next target. He was recruited by a secret organization of the government and trained to see if he would be suitable to work as an assassin. He is now one of their top agents, as he will kill anything or anyone if told to do so. IC: Sena dismantled the sniper rifle and carefully put everything away, ensuring that no traces of his presence would be found. He looked up at the new moon and smiled. It had been three years since he had been recruited by the government to work as an assassin. It really was quite ironic to be paid to do what he loved most, killing. Sena left the rooftop of the building and began to walk down the stair well. Calm and collected he ignored the sounds of sirens in the distance. Soon the authorities would be arriving to attempt to save the target and to locate him. It would do them no good, as he never missed his mark and it was child's play to evade the authorities. It was entertaining to watch them try though. There was something thrilling about seeing them struggle against the inevitable only to fail. A car was waiting at the entrance of the building when Sena came out and he climbed in. No words were exchanged, the driver simply drove off, Sena didn?t know the destination and didn?t care. Before long he would have another target and that was all that mattered. That and the visions he had been experiencing lately. Visions of glorious death and destruction, he had experienced them as a child but they had stopped when he became a trained assassin. But a few nights ago they had resumed and this time a voice accompanied them telling him that the time was near. Suddenly the driver slammed on the brakes. Unprepared Sena was slammed hard against the seat belt. He looked up to see a man standing in the middle of the road. ?What the hell is going on?? Sena asked. The driver said nothing. Sena turned to the driver only to find him unconscious. A voice out of nowhere spoke. "The time has come?? Sena was out of the car in a flash. Pulling his gun free he prepared to fire at the unknown man standing in the middle of the road. Once again the voice spoke. ?There is no need for that, he is only a messenger..? As if in a trance Sena put the gun away and walked over to the man standing in the road, he held out his hand. The stranger also appeared to be in a trance as he handed him a beautiful red stone. As he looked at the red stone Sena felt as if a part of him that had been missing had finally been found. He could feel the warmth and power that was contained within. ?Excellent,? the voice said, ?I was right, you are the one. Now, show me your soul; the one before you was not suitable, how do you respond?? Sena smiled. He placed the stone in his pocket and in a single fluid movement pulled his knife free and slashed the mans throat. Blood sprayed all over Sena as the man fell backwards. Once again Sena smiled. Being an assassin had been enjoyable, but this would be even better. He did not even bother to clean off the blood; he just walked off into the night. ?We must find the others?? the voice said. ?Others?? Sena asked. He pulled out the stone and spoke directly to it. ?You are the one who sent me those visions all these years, aren?t you?? ?Yes, there are those who would oppose us? the stone replied, ?The time has come for the visions to become a reality.? Sena tucked the stone back into his pocket. First he would need to find a way to attach the stone to a chain to wear as a necklace and then he would begin his search for the others. This was going to be fun. Position interested in: Red stone of Destruction.

Anime Anime series that really need a sequel
Horendithas replied to Darktigerpack17's topic in Otaku Central
I would love to see more of Yami no Matsuei made into an anime. It was just too short in my opinion and there?s plenty more of the story to be told in the Manga?s. I also would love to see more of Fruits Basket made into an anime. It would be interesting to see how they resolve the issue of portraying Akito
as a guy when in fact Akito is a woman. Anime would you let an opinion affect you?
Horendithas replied to animekid17's topic in Otaku Central
if you had a favorite anime, and you read another opinion about it and the person just really said some crappy things about it. would you let that persons opinion affect the way you feel about that anime?
No, after all it's only an opinion. Why would I allow someone else's opinion to change how I feel or think about something. Even if it's something I have not seen I still prefer to find out what it is like for myself. Besides there are plenty of anime out there that I do not care for and I would hardly expect others to not like them just because I do not. That just seems kind of immature and childish. -
This is aimed mostly at those of us still in school. How much do you care about your grades?
I spend quite a bit of time making sure I maintain a perfect grade, but primarily because not only do I love seeing perfect grades on my report cards but also since the good grades mean I get scholarships that help pay for my tuition. Since what I qualify for covers nearly two thirds of my tuition and books I always do my homework before having fun. Here?s my next random question: Why do they sterilize needles for lethal injections? It just seems kind of pointless to me.

I have yet another question regarding wallpapers. This question is in regards to what is considered official art and what is considered plagiarism. Recently one of my friends here had a wallpaper removed. She was told that it was for plagiarism. She explained to me that the wallpaper in question was made from a picture from a calendar and was not someone else?s wallpaper. I am not here to say I believe her or anything like that since it is pointless to make such a statement as I have never met her in real life and such things are impossible to prove online. What I want to do is use what happened to her as an example to better explain my question. Basically just what does one do if they are accused of plagiarism when in fact they did not use someone else?s wallpaper? I see this on a regular basis; members quite often use the same screenshots, and official art. Usually there is some difference in the graphic effects that are used. Sometimes it?s very obvious and other times the differences are very subtle as the original artwork is so beautiful that often the creator will only make a few changes. Now I am assuming that unless it?s identical it is considered okay to use the same official artwork, otherwise we would need to delete nearly half of what is in the database as many pictures have been used over and over. Here is an example of what I am referring too. Here?s the original calendar picture: Calendar Here?s the wallpaper that was removed: Wallpaper And here are several different wallpaper versions made from the calendar picture: Example1 Example2 Example3 Example4 So here is where I am confused, unless I am mistaken I thought using pictures from calendars was considered official art and therefore acceptable to use in a wallpaper. And I also thought it was okay for other members to use the same official art so long as there were different graphic effects. It?s clear to me that all of the pictures here are different from the original calendar picture. So I do not understand why only one member was accused of plagiarism. Keep in mind that this scenario is based on the assumption that the person accused is in fact innocent and my question is what would you do in this situation. I also want to know if things like calendars and pencil boards are considered official artwork. After all companies will quite often take an official wallpaper images and use that same image in the intro of a series and also as artwork on all sorts of memorabilia so I?m sure that this picture can probably be found in other anime stuff besides a calendar. I find this confusing as others have mistakenly thought I used their pictures when in fact it was official artwork. I have seen others use pictures that I have used to make wallpapers, but when I looked at their wallpaper the graphic effects were different and all they had done was use the same official picture that I had used. So if someone knows they are innocent can they use the picture of the orginal artwork to prove it? It's a bit hard to find but if you look around you can find pictures of the calendar posted on the Internet. If you look at shops that sell anime stuff you can even find the pencil board that I scanned to make a Naruto wallpaper. Any help clearing up my confusion would be greatly appreciated.. Thank you. Till later. indifference EDIT: October 31, 2005 Just a quick note to thank Panda who answered my question in a pm message. Thank you.
I know but it wont even let me have a small avatar. All I could put is this gir one and a couple others.

The other problem might be memory. You may be trying to insert avatars that take up too much space (not just dimensions). This is especially a problem with animated images. I recommend taking a look at our size and memory requirements and then finding an avatar that fits within that. Or you can use an avatar from our internal library, if you like. Hope you get it working. ^_^
Thank you James I forgot to mention the file size. Check your avatars to make sure they are 58.6KB or smaller. If they fit the 150 x 80 guidelines then that's probably the problem right there. If it?s an animated gif, well I don?t know how to make those smaller, but if it?s a regular picture I can resave it at a lower resolution so it would fit.

What are you going to be for halloween?
Horendithas replied to Starr112's topic in General Discussion
So...are you suggesting I just sit around drinking coffee at home, dressed up entirely as Willy Wonka? Hm, maybe that's a good idea... I can use my cane to change TV channels, too. :animesmil
Sounds like a good idea to me. Even if I don't have a party to attend I always dress up. Usually I end up finding excuses to run errands though as I love walking around dressed up. Won't be to much of an issue this year as I have classes on Halloween. So I will be dressed up for school and for the party later in the evening. As for the actual costume, well I'm still not sure so I'll proably fall back on my vampire outfit from last year. -

If you look closely you will see that all the avatars are 150 x 80 or smaller. Just right click on anyone?s avatar and then choose properties and you will see that the dimensions are all 150 x 80 or smaller. If the avatar you want to use is too big then you can either use software like adobe to make it smaller or you can go to the art request lounge and post the picture there as many members would be willing to help you by making an avatar out of the picture that fits the guidelines.

Here's another yaoi banner. I just added the words you wanted to the banner. It doesn't really match your avatar too well so I included the avatar that goes with it. If you don't care for that one, I have lots of yaoi pictures and even a few yuri ones as well. If you want one with different guys let me know.

Quite interesting Baron Samedi: Your picture is well put together. I like the colors, the edges and the font and background swirls look nice together. I also like the general blue-green tone of the overall picture. What I don?t see is how it fits with the concept of Ennui. It just seems more like the person is relaxing and taking it easy instead of being bored. At least to me anyway. Sean: I like the washed turquoise colors of the background; it gives the impression of dullness in the sense that nothing interests you so therefore there really isn?t anything to look at. It seems to capture Ennui in an abstract manner. What I don?t care for is the placing of the words. They fit the theme; they just look out of place in the middle of the picture. Although I think Baron Samedi?s picture is put together better, my vote goes to Sean. I like the abstract feel to it a little better.

Interesting, I too have been troubled by pages refusing to finish loading and with getting errors along the line of page cannot be displayed or server not found. I can now at least log on though the pages are horriably slow in loading and pages in myOtaku still don't load at all. I can visit my backroom but when I try to go to my home page or anyone else's they simply do not finish loading. All I get is the background. In fact the only site where the pages finish loading is here at OtakuBoards.

Just over a month ago several threads throughout OtakuBoards mysteriously vanished due to a glitch in the system. So what I?d like to do is restart one of the threads that vanished. It was really quite interesting to see what people?s random questions were so I?d love to see the discussion running again. So here?s the deal. You can ask any random question you want, as there won?t be a specific topic for this thread. But since we don?t want to create spam by having lots of posts only asking a question the rules are as follows. First of all if possible try to answer a question that someone before you has posted. It doesn?t have to be just the one before you but any of the questions before you post. After that list your question. If you don?t have an answer to someone else?s question then try to answer your own or give an example of it. Since I have no question to answer I?ll start off by answering my own. Have you consistently been called the wrong name for most of your life? For me that would be a yes, my name is Crystia and for what ever reason people later remember my name as Crystal. I have been called that so often that I?ve gotten use to it. Even to the point where I actually answer to that name.

First of all, both submissions are beautifully done. Retribution: There is no difficulty in seeing that your submission is meant to represent great literature. The three separate pictures clearly depicts the very essence of the meaning of great literature as is it is a collection of written works of say a language, period or culture. The only thing I do not care for is the spacing between the three pictures and the outer border, it just seems like a little too much space compared to the spacing between the pictures themselves. Delta: Although technically the collection of papers written by Albert Einstein is considered literature, your picture really doesn?t seem to reflect the actual papers themselves. It is very beautifully done, but it has me thinking of great mathematicians and not about literature. I would never have put the connection together on my own. Perhaps if you had used a picture of the actual paper Einstein wrote it might have been more apparent. Although I think Delta?s submission is more aesthetically pleasing to the eye, my vote goes to Retribution as I feel that Retribution?s submission captures the essence of great literature much better.
I wouldn't call it a gap, but for me it is a space about 1 pixel wide that is white instead of black like the rest of the border. That applies to the left side just above where it says Welcome: username as well. Though truthfully until I saw this thread I didn't think anything of it. It doesn't bother me and I don't find it distracting.
I also see this, but ironically untill this thread I hadn't really noticed that it was there. And even knowing that it is there I am not bothered by it, so I don't see any need to fix it. Or even if it actually needs to be fixed. Personally I think it's fine the way it is.

Ironically I don?t have an ideal man so to speak as I have absolutely no desire to be in a relationship. I do not desire marriage nor to be someone?s girlfriend. Now if I were to apply this to say my idea male friend, well I think the perfect friend would be someone who shared similar interests yet had enough differences that we could have fun discussing our different viewpoints on say anime, politics or other topics of interest. Since we are talking about friends here other than I prefer that they be clean and well kept, the other physical aspects wouldn?t really matter to me.

High School clubs.. Should they be strictly regulated?
Horendithas replied to Horendithas's topic in General Discussion
No need to apologise, it would appear to have been my mistake in the first place. Reading over the thread again I can't help but agree that this seems to be an attempt to prevent the formation of a GSA group, though if we look at this on a broader scale it also appears to be an attempt to prevent the creation of any group contrary to that which is comfortable. I myself know very little about the Gay-Straight Alliance, other than the small pieces of information I have gleamed from other threads, but if the formation of this group is going to cause this much trouble is it really a good idea to try and form it ? I'm not saying that it shouldn't be formed, but if it's going to cause trouble or people aren't happy with it being formed then I just don't think it's a good idea to stir up trouble.
Personally I think it should be formed, and fortunately Provo High School has approved the club. Unfortunately, the Provo High School district has already drafted up a new policy that would require parental permission for another one to be formed at a different High School. I say unfortunately because unless other schools are willing to ban all clubs at their school, requiring parental approval violates The Federal Equal Access Act and the district is leaving themselves open to unnecessary lawsuits. For example here?s what happened when they tried to stop the clubs in the state capitol of Utah: 1996 - Utah: The Salt Lake City Board of Education determined that they had only one method of legally eradicating a student gay/lesbian support club at East High School. That was to eliminate all 46 student-led extracurricular clubs?."However, after the Salt Lake board continued to allow certain non-curricular clubs to meet, the American Civil Liberties Union and two other groups filed suit on behalf of the students in 1998....After two years of litigation, the Salt Lake school board agreed to change its policy and allow the Gay-Straight Alliance. The school board reportedly spent more than a quarter-million dollars in attorneys? fees in the case. There is now a Gay-Straight Alliance at every public high school in Salt Lake, according to reports." I?d hate to see even more money wasted on attempts to ban these clubs. It?s not something that is going to go away, though I am sure that there are plenty of people who wish it would. It is estimated that there is a Gay-Straight Alliance club in 1 out of every 10 High Schools in the USA. I guess it?s the very principal of one group expecting the right to have a club while denying others the same right that really bothers me the most. Especially since The Federal Equal Access Act has also contributed to religious clubs as well. In 1980 there was only about 100 religious clubs in the USA. After the Act was made a law in 1984, well by 1995 the number had risen to around 15,000 clubs and continues to grow. There have been cases where the same thing protected those clubs as well, for example: 2000-NOV: Louisiana: In spite of numerous applications of the Equal Access law over its 17 years existence, students still must occasionally fight for their rights. Dominique Begnaud of Lake Charles, LA, tried to organize a Bible Club and Fellowship of Christian Athletes Club in the Cecilia High School. Many secular student-led and initiated clubs were already active at the school. The school district refused, citing the principle of "separation of church and state," which they interpreted as prohibiting religious clubs on the high-school campus. With the help of Liberty Counsel, a Fundamentalist Christian legal defense group, the school board quickly agreed to settle the case. Mathew D. Staver, president and general counsel of Liberty Counsel said: "It is hard to understand why schools cannot get the message of equal access. The Equal Access law has been in existence since 1984 and its message is crystal clear ? equal access means equal treatment. If school administrators can?t understand the simple message of equal access, you wonder how they can teach children anything....When a school prohibits a club solely because of its religious content, the school violates the First Amendment provision that it pretends to uphold." What?s truly ironic about this whole mess is that The Federal Equal Access Act was sponsored by Utah?s own Sen. Orrin G. Hatch to protect religious clubs. Hatch originally wrote the law to protect Bible clubs on campus but it opened the door for gay clubs and other non-religious groups. So Utah is essentially having a cow over a law they themselves wanted to be passed to protect their right to have a religious club at schools. I know it?s going to cause trouble, but I think it?s an issue that people need to stop trying to pretend doesn?t exist. -
Thank you for the in-depth explanation, I find that I must change my opinion a bit as I was forgetting that this site is in many ways for the members. You are correct Panda in that at some point members who follow the rules need to be trusted to continue following the rules, so I take back my earlier statement saying I didn?t see the need for members being given the auto-approval status. I also want to apologize for my implication that the moderators were allowing some of those who do have this privilege to break the rules. I did not mean it in that respect but upon reflection I can see how it could be taken that way. It really is the fellow members right to assist in monitoring the site by using the report button as you mentioned. Something that I myself have done many times upon finding wallpapers in the wrong category. And since they were moved to the correct category it is obvious that those of you who monitor this site do an excellent job. As for the titles, now that I know we have a fairy here at theOtaku.com I wouldn?t dream of denying the Senior Artist Fairy the job of changing one?s title. Fairies are so rare these days. I could never forgive myself if I accidentally interfered with a fairy. As for Fairies, now for some reason I have the image of a Panda fairy in my mind. Are you sure you aren?t hiding your wings from us Panda?
After you have a proven track record of sticking to the rules your member status will change from "member" to "senior member" and that means you do not have to go through the approval process and your submissions are automatically approved. You still have to stick to the rules, you just don't have to have each and every piece reviewed before being published on the site.
I am a bit confused on this. I am assuming that your message is a typo as I have never seen the title ?senior member? Unless it is a new title. I have seen Senior Artist, and a few others throughout the site. However that is not important. Since I am sure you have heard this many times before I figured that starting a new thread on it is a bit pointless. What I am getting at is I really don?t think titles are necessary. Primarily because at so many sites I have been too, a lot of the people spend their time in pursing a title. It?s like a constant war to outdo each other. Usually this results in lots of spam and tons of submissions just to reach a title. That being said, if the people who run this site have the time to approve each and every piece of artwork that is submitted, then I see no reason for automatic approval either. Why? Because so many people, and I?m referring to others sites as well, start ignoring the rules once they get this status as they are no longer required to get things approved. I realize that there are probably to many submissions, I?m just saying I don?t mind waiting for approval. In many ways it?s a greater feeling of satisfaction to know that someone else looked at your artwork before it was approved. And for the stuff that is denied, well it?s a learning experience as you can look into why it was refused and to see how you can improve your work. Overall I just think titles and automatic approval aren?t necessary. Mind you I have no clue as to how many submissions this site gets everyday. So I don?t know how feasible it would be for the moderators to look at each and every one. As for the titles, I know that people who have them have worked hard to earn them. Nor do I think they should be taken away. I just don?t see the need for them.

High School clubs.. Should they be strictly regulated?
Horendithas replied to Horendithas's topic in General Discussion
Interesting, most interesting. Well while I'm not going to play Devil's Advocate, I am going to disagree with the trend of opinion here on the subject of having a school group apply for permission from the school itself before being formed. I say this simply because I think schools should have some say in what kind of groups are formed within their walls. I'm not saying that when someone goes to form a group they're interrogated as to it's purpose and intentions but some oversight is generally a good thing. I'm my old high school, we had no such student groups that weren't formed without the permission of the principle and without a teacher participating as what I would dub liaison to the staff. In the vast majority of the cases these groups, such as Debating were lead by a teacher and provided valuable aid from the staff because it was a student/teacher endeavour. I know groups like the GSA mightn't benefit in the same way, but I still feel that some level of oversight would be beneficial.
I am sorry if my initial post was not clear enough. There already are basic supervision rules regarding clubs. The students who wish to form a club are required to apply to the school for it and The Equal Access Act clearly states that School officials have the right to monitor meetings and the right to set rules. For example they can limit meeting times and locations. The problem here is that the School district wants to make it where they have to apply to the district and not just the school where the club is going to be. The Provo School district is over all schools and not just the one High School. The other problem is they want to make it where you are required to also get parental permission to form the club and that is a direct violation of The Equal Access Act as it states that persons from the community may not ?direct, conduct, control, or regularly attend activities of student groups.? The system is already in place for the school to monitor the clubs and the students are required to apply to just the school directly. Which is what they did. Anyway, I?ll add this to my initial post as I think I didn?t explain it properly. Sorry about that. -
Recently a Gay ? Straight Alliance club was approved for one of the high school?s here in Utah. As a result, it was immediately announced in the paper & featured on the news and the Provo City School District is considering a policy that would regulate school clubs. As the article says: "It would require anyone who wants to form any sort of club to apply to the district. Parental consent would be required for non-curricular clubs, and the policy would disallow any club that is "deemed vulgar and/or lewd and therefore is inconsistent with the fundamental values of public education" or that "could subject students to harassment or persecution." A club application could be denied to "maintain boundaries of social appropriate behavior." "This isn't about a gay club," he said. "This is about a policy that both honors speech rights and also protects school from disruptive behavior." For the full article go here? Article Personally I find the whole thing ridiculous. First of all many of the colleges around here already have a Gay ? Straight Alliance club, so banning one that the high school students want to form is pointless. I also find it ridiculous as I feel it is the state is attempting to force their religious views on everyone. If you aren?t familiar with Utah, well it is estimated that about 70% of the population belongs to the Mormon Church. I would believe their statement that it?s not about a ?gay? club if it weren?t for the fact that hundreds of clubs have been formed over the years and yet not one of them was disputed or even mentioned in the newspapers. Anyway, basically what I am getting at is what do all of you think? Not about whether or not Utah should allow the club, but whether or not a policy requiring students to apply to the school district and get parental permission to form a club is a good idea or not. If yes, why do you think it's a good idea and if no, why do you think it shouldn't be required. Personally I think it?s a bad idea. I think undercuts the very purpose of having clubs. If a parent doesn?t want their teenager in a club it should be a decision they make just for their own kid and not for everyone else?s kids as well. Being gay isn?t a crime or illegal and I feel that such a rule would end up discriminating against more than just gay people. To give an example, I?ve run into parents who think any club that isn?t sports shouldn?t be allowed at the schools. If they had their way, art, chess and science clubs would be eliminated. But right now the current system doesn?t let them make that decision. It?s the students who make that choice. And I think that the choice should remain with the students. EDIT: I am sorry if my initial post was not clear enough. There already are basic supervision rules regarding clubs. Sorry if I caused any confusion over this matter.

Well Retribution, I checked the link and now I feel the need to wash my brain somehow. Blech! It?s funny and yet so sad as the whole basis of its argument is based on something that is a myth and not an actual fact. But then people have always been good at turning someone else?s traditions into something that they really aren?t. All I can really say is it really makes me glad I don?t go to church. Blech! Boy I really do need to go and somehow get the brainwashing info from that link out of my mind. It is laughable in the sense that it?s not likely to sway my opinion on Halloween. I have always loved it and will continue to love it. Now I just need to figure out where they actually do anything fun for Halloween here in Utah. I am so going to miss being at home this year.
Hmm...I don't think I'm even going to give this the benefit of the doubt, since the pictures are, as revealed by a source-code check, both hotlinked...and from different sites. They're also in different styles, as noted by sakura. Additionally, I find it interesting that while you seem to be speaking English fine, the text on the second pic is in Spanish ("y" is Spanish for "and"). Just give it up, YohsAnna. The evidence is stacked high against you.
I?m in agreement with Unborn Lord Xion as all one has to do is left click on the picture and then choose properties to pull up the address of where the picture is originally posted. Both pictures are already hosted on two separate blogging sites and as Unborn Lord Xion pointed out the y in one picture is Spanish, just like the site it is originally posted in. Based on that evidence I am inclined to believe that you did not draw the pictures in question.

I can see why there would be a minimum age limit, as the law requires one, but one saying if you are so old you can?t be a member or like anime? That just seems ridiculous to me. I don?t think age will ever change my love for anime. I?ve run into a few sites where it?s mostly teenagers and I?m sorry to say that they pretty much ignore anyone older; it just gives anime a bad rap when you do that. Besides, I know that Panda is an adult, imagine attempting to tell her she was too old. I would proably bonk the idiot on the head for her. Its actually one of the things I like best about this site as I don?t know a lot of adults in my area who actually like anime. I have more online friends than I do in real life who like anime. Besides I just can?t imagine a place that is so well run and put together would be so foolish as to limit themselves by placing an age limit on membership. Other than the one that by law requires you to be at least 13 years old.
