Since Hawt is an Acronym or slang for Having a Wonderful Time and not an actual word or color I have chosen my own colors. Words: For you I will make time stand still Color: green or brown or both

I have never been to one myself, but truthfully I just don?t see the attraction to attending one. I am sure that for some it is fun, but I have yet to see one held in my area that didn?t turn into some form of disaster. It seems that the people who hold them here feel the need to get drunk, get high and play music that keeps everyone else awake until you have no choice but the call the cops as they are up long past the curfew for such noise. It really is difficult to get the idea across to someone who is either high or drunk that they are breaking the law. Or that others like to actually get some sleep or not have their things vandalized by those who are too wasted to even know their own name. I suppose it might be interesting if people were a bit more respectful of others when holding a rave. Maybe it is better where you all live, but here it?s downright annoying. I just can?t bring myself to like others who play music loud enough to rattle my windows from 9pm until the cops shut them down. If they obeyed the law and shut down before midnight like they are suppose to I could tolerate it, but it just doesn?t happen. Personally I wish they would allow them to hold such a party in one of the music buildings in downtown Salt Lake City, as the building is soundproof. That way they could have their fun till the early hours without being a nuisance to the rest of us.

So just what exactly is considered a messenger bag? I see so many different types of bags so to speak that quite truthfully I do not know what one looks like. Or I have seen them many times and did not realize that is what they are called. Myself I use a type of bag that is made to hold a laptop along with your books. It looks more like a small briefcase than a bag though.

Interesting, there are several anime shows that I think have excellent songs and music in them. I have always like the opening and closing music to Sailor Moon. Not the English one but the original Japanese song. And some of the orchestrated theme music for the different characters was good as well. I also like the music to DNAngel. The songs are not only beautiful to listen to but the person who does the singing has a wonderful singing voice as well. I also like the music for the X series. It comes across as a grand theme and the main villain has his own little segment that almost reminds you of jaws, as it is so recognizable that he is about to appear when ever you hear it. Almost a bit creepy actually. And unless I missed it I am surprised that no one has mentioned the music used for the show Harlock Saga. It was the first anime show that had my full attention before the introduction had finished and the show had even started. It was the most powerful and compelling music I had ever heard in an anime before. If you are not familiar with it the show is very loosely based on the classical opera ?Der Ring Des Nibelungen? by Richard Wagner. The opening music is from the actual opera and it is performed by the ?Moscow International Symphonic Orchestra? It may be an older anime but it is quite enjoyable.
But... I haven't singled out USA. I've given examples of my own country, Finland, and I've blamed ALL the wealthy, "civilized" nations for ignoring the troubled, poorer countries. As for why I'm basing my opinions on the media, it's because that is the only way I know of America. I haven't visited USA, I don't know people from there in real life, I have no ties to there. But I'm not actually attacking USA here, I'm trying to point out that there is so much suffering around us that it's selfish for "the richest country in the world" to expect that the world will annually mourn with it for it's relevantly small loss. Okay, I admit that I've been rude and blunt with my wording, but you can't know how hard it is for me as a foreigner to try to speak my opinions with a language that's not my native! So please don't cling onto every word I say but try to understand what I mean with them... :/
Ah I see. I was not aware that English is not your native language. It does help to explain why your posts seem so unnecessarily rude. I only know a tiny bit of another language myself so I can understand that it would make it harder to properly explain what you really mean. I won?t argue over the fact that many of the wealthier nations could probably do more to assist others, as I agree with that statement. Personally I think a worldwide day of mourning would be better if it represented all the people who have lost their lives to such disasters, regardless of what country it happened in instead of focusing on just one nation. I cannot speak for all Americans, but as for myself, I do not expect others to mourn with us. I will disagree with you on one small point but only because I have lost someone very dear to me. Although mathematically the disaster might be considered relatively small, or small because more lives were lost in a different tragedy, I cannot consider any loss small as even one life is one too many to be lost.
9/11 is not the only major terrorist attack that has happened in the world, so that's why I'm asking you Americans not to make it look like it was!
I think I am a bit confused by this statement. I do not recall ever being told or thinking that America was the only country to have a major terrorist attack occur. So why do you claim that us Americans are trying to make it look that way? I and most of my friends have always been of the opinion that it was only a matter of time until America was attacked like so many before us were. We never once thought that were the only ones. I know that I was saddened by the event as it felt to me like the tolerance for others different than you was disappearing in the world. I guess I am curious to why you are primarily singling out America when I am quite sure that many other countries do not give a second thought over the many tragedies that have occurred due to terrorist attacks in the many nations of the world. I know that in every history class I have taken we have always learned about the attacks that have occurred in other countries. I have always been taught about others who have suffered due to terrorist attacks. It is because we are not on the news making a public display of sympathy that you think we do not care about others? It really is foolish to base your opinion of a nation on the news and media that you might see. For example the world may see that we elected Bush as our president again. Yet in the actual voting process the vote of the actually people was divided. Bush won by a very small margin in the popular vote. 51% voted yes and the other 49% voted no.
no other great disaster/terrorist attack has ever gained a world-wide mourning date or silent moments!
And I am curious as to why that would bother you? Is it not a sign that the world is finally waking up to the reality that terrorists are more than somebody else?s problem? Would you have accepted a worldwide mourning day if it were for some other country than America? I can understand that you are frustrated but to me you are coming across more like you have a personal grudge against America in general than being bothered by the world recognizing a day of mourning for those who died. I guess what I am saying is that quite a few of us Americans do not have the attitude of ?This shouldn?t be happening to us!? I am sure that there are those that do, but I am equally sure that there are quite a few who do not feel that way. Till later.

I have never believed in ghosts and I have yet to see anything to convince me otherwise. I do agree with Ilium that quite often the human imagination works in funny ways. It?s easy to explain a mysterious sound away as being a ghost. I know that a while back my parents kept hearing a strange sound coming from the basement and it only seemed to happen at night. For what ever reason members of my family are superstitious and wouldn?t go check it out. It got on my nerves how they were telling the neighbors that our house was haunted. So I went down one night and checked it out. Turns out that it was one of the water pipes and that the reason it only happened at night was that was when the sprinkler system ran. It was the pipe outside next to the foundation and the valve was wearing out so it would make a weird noise when switching sections while watering. I suspect that a lot of other things mistaken for ghosts actually have a real reason behind the light or noise. Till later.

It is not the date that is so important. It is the lives of those who were lost that matters. It is easy to think that just because someone didn?t mention 9/11 or the date of some other tragedy that they have forgotten when in fact it may be on their minds quite a bit. Grieving over a lost loved one is not limited to only the day that they died. In many ways the pain never ends. But as time passes it begins to soften just a bit. You still miss them but you no longer think about it endlessly. Just because a huge display was not made over the event does not mean that people no longer care. I may not think about it on the anniversary of the day it happened, but I could hardly forget such an event.
I go to a Christian school and I cant even talk about anime in front of the teachers. One time I brought a Yugioh folder and the principal threw it away.[/SIZE']
I think you are making a mistaken assumption here. Unless the major religions have actually put out a statement that I have not heard of, not one of them has publicly said they condemn anime and that the members of the church should avoid it. Many churches do condemn homosexuality and series that are yaoi and yuri do have that in them. It seems to me that you are dealing with narrow-minded people who have decided that anime in general is bad. They are using religion as a means to condemn anime without bothering to find out if what they think is actually true. Most churches do not back most of the fanatical behavior against anime or fantasy or games, instead many members decide that it is bad without any solid evidence or proof. They simply use their so-called Christian upbringing to justify their behavior in condemning anime. I have found that it is best to avoid such narrow-minded people, as usually nothing you say will change their minds. Till later. indifference

I do not believe in fate or destiny. I simply cannot believe that I was somehow fated or destined to be present when my own brother was shot and killed. Or that when others are hurt by violent crimes that it was their fate and that they could not escape it. Every person makes choices and obviously some are good and some are bad, yet in the end the person made the choice. It is then a matter of the environment or events surrounding the choices you make to help determine the outcome. Even then such influences are in my opinion unrelated to being considered fate, as even as things are occurring you can still make additional choices to help things go the way you want them to. Plus I work hard to earn good grades, I was not fated or destined to do well in school, I do well because I work hard and put in the effort necessary to get a good grade. Personally I think the idea of fate or destiny is an illusion that doesn?t really exist. Till later. indifference

I do not think that Intelligent Design should be used in schools. Religion and school do not mix well as there are so many different views on what is considered religion. It is one thing to open people?s mind to the idea that others have a different viewpoint than you do. But I cannot agree with using a concept that clearly seems to say you have to believe in God because we do. I believe that such thinking is narrow minded and nothing more than a rude attempt to force your beliefs onto others who think differently than you do. After all there are quite a few of us who do not believe in God or the Christian view of life. Now if Intelligent Design were taught along side with Evolution as a means to get one to start questioning different viewpoints on how the world and man may have been created, well that would be acceptable to me as now you are saying what if? Instead of this is the only possible way. Till later.

It can be hard to determine when someone is truly adult enough to handle the responsibility of being allow to drink, smoke or drive for that matter. I have seen 14 year olds more mature than some who are over 20 years old. Being considered an adult at 18 is in no way an indication of just how mature and responsible someone will be. Setting the law for alcohol at 21 is rather pointless as well as it cannot possibly determine if someone is ready enough to handle the responsibility. I personally think more time should be spent educating teenagers regarding the issues surrounding tobacco and alcohol use and regarding the perils of driving recklessly. Here in Utah the driver?s Ed program is severely lacking in my opinion. And I don?t ever recall being taught about alcohol or tobacco use. How can the state or country possibly consider someone an adult when they hand over the ability to make choices without much in the way of information to help them make an informed choice? I am however in complete agreement with SunfallE. The penalties for drunk driving are far to light in my opinion. So many of them cause crashes that kill and after a slap on the wrist so to speak they are back on the streets driving drunk yet again. I often wonder just how many more have to die before our government or state officials make the penalties fit the crime. Till later.
I'm not sure if it's appropriate to vent here about this, but I still have not heard from my close friend of ten years, who's flat was about 3 blocks from the river in New Orleans. The lack of certainty for his well-being is nearly unbearable, as I listen to the reports of corpses floating everywhere, and the lack of fresh water for those who have managed to survive thus far. I am, however, relieved that my brother returned from living with my friend in New Orleans just a few weeks ago, or I would be in quite a state (aka-sedated and drooling on the floor of my padded cell)...but the relief that my brother is safe does not negate my concern for my friend in the slightest. My thoughts and my hope are with him...and with all the victims (and their families) of this devistating storm. Again, I apologise if this was not the right place to vent my concerns.
I would never consider worry or concern over a friend involved in the disaster inappropriate. I too would be beside myself if someone I knew was in the path of the Hurricane. I am fortunate as my only problem with the Hurricane was in the delays caused when I flew to Utah as I had been back East visiting my family for several weeks. The flight cancellations and flight diversions resulted in a very long travel day for me. Yet it is nothing compared to those who have lost loved ones and their homes to the disaster. I am glad to hear that your brother is out of harms way and I sincerely hope that your friend is all right as well. Till later. indifference

I have yet another question regarding wallpapers. In the past few weeks I have noticed that a lot of wallpapers are misplaced and in the wrong category. Yet when you go to report this fact there is not a choice for reporting a wallpaper in the wrong category. Is there another way to report wallpapers that are misplaced? Or should I not worry about such mistakes? I have seen quite a few of them and I think it would be a good idea to be able to report them as it would help improve our wallpaper section by fixing such errors. At least that is what I think. Also I have noticed several wallpapers that are a crossover of an anime and a video game. The ones in question have been placed in the anime section and I was wondering if such submissions belong in crossover anime. Or do we need a hub for anime crossed over with video games? Either way I would appreciate clarification on this matter. Till later. indifference

Interesting idea to choose members from this site to be with you for six months in the same house, it would definitely be quite the experience. I have not been here for very long but I can think of a few people I would choose if presented with this situation. Mariskah ? She is the first person I really met here and her wacky sense of humor is quite similar to mine. SunfallE - She is the second person I really got to know here, she seems like a creative and fun person. Panda ? No place would be complete with out the Panda. She?s just so awesome. Ozymandius Jones ? I would pick her for the same reason SunfallE would. Her style of posting is so unique and fun to read. Aaryanna ? I think she would be a lot of fun too. Quite the smart little thing, I bet she would keep us all on our toes so to speak. As for the others, I really don?t know, as I haven?t really gotten to know very many people yet. Seeing how amazing the people here really are I?m betting that just about everyone would be fun to met in person. As for the gender mix up, Pumpkin accidentally referring to SunfallE as a guy when she?s a girl and SunfallE referring to Ozymandius Jones as a guy when she is a girl, well, with so many here it?s easy to do, even when you know which one they really are. I?m pretty sure I have it correct but as far as being friends, gender doesn?t matter to me. Till later. indifference

An arm, a leg and half a foot: the gas price thread
Horendithas replied to ChibiHorsewoman's topic in General Discussion
Seems to me that fuel prices? actually dropping is a rare site these days. It seems that no matter where I go it is slowly creeping up and never down in price. For now it is no issue as I have no car and rely on public transportation to get me to where I need to go. But I?m quite sure that in the next two to four years when I finally do get a car the prices will not have gone down. I agree that the current lack of a decent minimum wage does not help. Most people cannot even afford to feed themselves on such a poor pay rate let alone afford to put gas in their vehicle. I saw that diesel fuel is up as well. As diesel is cheaper to make than gasoline is I can only assume that the oilmen are taking advantage of the situation to gouge the trucking industry as our nation depends upon them for pretty much everything. Virtually everything you own is brought to you by a truck. And increasing the cost for transporting it ends up in the average consumer paying more for their goods. I am not a supporter of Bush as he favors businesses and not the people. Why else would he sign a bill handing over taxpayer?s money to the energy companies claiming that it will encourage production? Perhaps he refers to the effort of them fighting among themselves to see who can get the most for their own pockets. However, that is not the topic of this thread so I will move on. I too hope that alternate resource research is continued as the oil will not last forever and one day it will run dry. If something isn?t done it won?t be long until the alternate will be to walk to one?s destination. It may not be in our life time, but it will happen. -
Well, i was rescentl ordered by a mod to remove one of my siggies, because the rules state that more than one sig is not allowed. I find this stupid, just plain stupid. I mean, wtf is this rule supposed to do? I can understand the esence of a "No-Swearing" rule, or a "No-Spamming" rule, but "No-Double Siggies"!? I think the admins were high when they wrote that, honestly.... Oh, and that rule about the siggys being 100X150 or someting, is also retarded.

Oh, yeah...And so is every forum admin in the internet, without the stupid anti-siggy rule... I have NEVER seen a forum with such retarded rules before...And i've seem enough forums, trust me on that one, ok...?
I shudder to think what the forums you have seen are like. As so many of them are loaded with pages and pages of posting that are nothing more than signatures that take forever to load as they are nothing more than tons of huge pictures. A fact that is very distracting when you are interesting in reading the post and not seeing a particular users picture that takes up over half the page. The point of this forum to me seems to be the actual discussion of topics rather than I can post a bigger signature than you can. Such rules actually improve the forum keeping distracting images from being a problem. Instead of automatically assuming that a rule you disagree on means someone is stupid for making it, perhaps you should try to read the rules to understand exactly what they really are and be creative in making a new signature to fit the guidelines of this site. You might even surprise yourself by liking what you create. Flaming the administration here just because you disagree with them by insisting they are retarded, stupid or high is quite rude and will only result in making you look like the retarded one here.
I've seen there are alot of Yoai fans and i had always wonderd..."Why do people watch it?" I've seen and read yaoi but inever got it...I don't really like the whole malexmale cpoupleing. Also same goes for the girlxgirl thing..forgot what it was called though. So...I have to ask..Whats so great about Yaoi? and why do you Yaoi fans like it? P.S. I'm just asking out of curiostiy not out of disrespect.
Perhaps one should also ask why watch anime shows with only straight couples in it? Even if such relationships are not put into anime shows it will not change the fact they exist. I think such shows that address the reality that boys fall in love with boys and that girls fall in love with other girls are quite interesting. After all the boy falls in love with girl and vice versa is easy to find in just about any type of show.
...ok...the reason some of us like some yaois is because we feel sorry for one person in the Pairing.(like hiei) Then as we watch more and more...we realized that homosexuallity isn't really that bad. I mean when else can you see Hiei looking like a little kid~! :catgirl: :animesmil BUt to all the yaoi watchers out there, I feel your pain. Some people don't like Yaoi or Yuri and because of that they call it "stupid" or "gay". But that's the way the world is. If one person doesn't like it, It's "gay".... :animeangr Stupid americans....The people in Japan would have the sence and manners to hold their tounges. Oh well....G2G ~Willow~
Interesting that you would make the assumption that people who do not like Yaoi or Yuri are somehow a stupid American. I am quite sure that there are plenty of people who do not like it around the world and not just here in America. Besides I like yaoi and yuri and I am an American. Such a broad statement is pointless as it is not accurate.
I personally DO not like it when people criticize you by the anime you watch,be it hentai, yaoi, yuri or what ever, its YOUR preferance ,not theirs i think that if your opinion is expressed it shouldn't be to hurt people, and i'm not saying that not liking these types of animes is bad,i just think that if it's not your cup of tea, just don't be mean, hateful or any thing else like that, now i do happen to like ALL kinds of animes,(hentai yaoi and yuri included) it shouldn't matter what u watch,as long as u watch it ^_^ [/COLOR'] :catgirl: :catgirl: :catgirl:
This is a matter of tolerance is it not? Judging someone by what they watch or like is usually not a good way to find out what someone is truly like. Such assumptions are always a bad thing as you are making a decision without enough facts to back your statement up. Watching things like hentai, yaoi or yuri do not necessarily mean that the person in question is bad somehow. However I do agree with what others here are saying. It is not a good idea to force your preferences on others by insisting on telling or even showing them the materials. I personally do like hentai, yaoi and yuri, yet I find it extremely distasteful when people I do not know make a point of telling me explicit stuff or showing me explicit pictures from such series. When someone is doing that I feel that they are being disrespectful, as they know that many people do not like such things. There is nothing wrong with admitting you enjoy such types of anime, but running around with explicit pictures to show people is in my opinion wrong. I also feel that discussing it in depth with others unless you know that they also like the particular show in question is also wrong.

Perhaps we might get a new hub for Descendants of Darkness as I am sure I saw quite a few people asking for that anime as well. Though what really surprised me was the votes for anime that already have a hub. Personally I am hoping they add several hubs as I saw at least four shows that had five or more votes for them.
^_^ Well, I would say I'm most likely, the least experienced of yaoi readers here. As for the situations in mangas being taken in public schools. I'm sorry they burned it. You could've taken that to federal court. Although they have the right to question you without reading you the "Miranda", it's still unlawful to burn someone's personal property, even on campus. Sorry that happened so long ago. As for bookstores, yes, it's true that very few stores that operate based in Utah sell anime/manga, but in the public library and stores like that, I've never had a problem like that before. As a matter of fact, it's been excatly the opposite. ^_^ Reading manga has actually made me friends in public places, of all ages and even a few guys have hit on me for it. lol. The point is, I'm sorry you encountered such hardships in your pursuit of manga/anime. It's a good thing that you still read it. Hopefully people won't be so harsh where you live now. ^_~ Especially in Utah.
I fogot to include the fact that my parents did report it to the police as they felt the principal of the school and my teacher had no right to take my stuff and burn it without consulting them first. But when the police checked into it, both the principal and teacher claimed that they returned the items to me at the end of the day and that if anyone had burned them it must have been me who did it. As I was a teenager, the police chose to believe the principal and teacher instead of me. I'm not entirely sure why they did what they did or got so upset. As the school year went on It was if they singled me out and found any reason what so ever to blame me for problems at the school. My parents finally insisted that the state allow me to attend a different High School. It took some doing on my parents part but they finally got it approved as my Aunt lived ten miles from my parents house and they claimed I mainly lived with them so I could attend another school district. I'll never know if the new school was more tolerant as I never took another anime item to school again. It was extremely frustrating as people are so paronoid these days and the police took the attitude of I was a problem child when I had done nothing wrong. The Sailor Moon books in question were only rated PG. I'm just glad I hadn't taken my artbooks from the series with me that day as they are far harder to get replaced than the novels were. The whole thing is rather ironic as now that I am an adult I actually do own some of the more explicit yaoi series. Though I had to order them from overseas as they are not sold here at all. I'm not a big fan of some of the more explict ones, but there are a few that I found the artwork and story line interesting.

I can?t even begin to imagine how hard the moderators who run this place work. As it is the best-run site I have found on the Internet, and considering how many members there are, I am beyond impressed that my issue was so quickly answered. Not to mention how nice and polite everyone was to me. I had barely joined when there was an article about cracking down on plagiarism. At the time I had only been a member for a few days, but now that I?ve been here longer it is mind-boggling just how big of an issue it really is. Take the original anime sections for example, I found quite a few wallpapers and e-cards that were from anime art books and from video games. Yet the person who submitted it was claiming they had created it instead of placing it in the proper category. I reported the one?s that I knew what they were from, but as there is so much stuff out there I can?t imagine that a single moderator would be familiar with everything. It is sad that others would claim someone else?s work is their own. I have already run across some of the wallpapers I submitted here on other sites and they still had my name on the bottom too! Kind of sad since a fair number of mine had promotional words on them as they were scanned off of art books and covers so I spent a fair amount of time removing the words and then repairing the picture underneath so it looked like there never had been any lettering on it. I too think it would be a good idea to have a small box where you could explain how a fan art was done or a wallpaper was made when you are submitting it. Especially when you have to wait for approval and it?s not possible to explain unless it?s been posted already. indifference

For me my absolute worst day had nothing to do with school. My worst day was when my brother and I got caught in the crossfire of a gang drive by shooting and he was killed by a stray bullet so to speak. We were walking back home one evening from visiting a local gas station. No one thinks that the simple act of walking to the store to buy a soda will end up in your death. What made it horrible is that the person doing the shooting was a former friend of mine. We had been friends until he joined a gang and after that we no longer got along as I did not want to join and he couldn?t understand why I wouldn?t. When I saw him and his new gang drive by the home of a rival gang member and start shooting I lost any respect or feelings of friendship that I had for him. There were only two people in the car at the time so I am quite sure that the stray bullet that took the life of my brother was from my former friend?s gun. The other person in the car was driving and my former friend was the only one leaning out the window shooting. He did not even care that my brother and I were in the way. I immediately hit the pavement so to speak to avoid being shot, but my brother was not quick enough and he died instantly from a bullet wound to the head. It has been over five years but the event is still quite painful to me. My only comfort is that the killer received a life sentence and the chances of parole are not good as he refuses to admit he did anything wrong. Even though he killed my brother my former friend does not understand why I turned him in to the police and testified to help put him in jail for his crime. I have had other bad days, but none that were as horrible as this one was.

Very nicely done. I have only one thing I am unclear on with this poem. Is it trying to say the person needs to be free from love or is it saying only by finding or allowing themselves to love will they be free? The final line of "Sadly all these questions will lead to one answer...LOVE" is a bit confusing to me as it could mean either one. Till later. indifference

Very nicely done. I have never seen a poem about abortion written as if you were the unborn child. I think it is very creative. I doubt a true child would actually have such understanding. Though if an unborn child could think perhaps the emotions would be similar to what you wrote. If I were your teacher I would give you an A+ for it. I look foward to reading more of your poems.
