I've been through a whole string of forums, and the OB happens to be one of the best I've found so far. About this time last year (2 years ago? It's all a blur...) I was hanging around at GaiaOnline--it was my first forum. But things there quickly devolved into maddness for me. The community was far too big and far too hyper, and there was a lack of decent conversation that I so crave. I mean, it's sad when you have a bunch of 12 year olds posting about the kiddy anime. Don't they know there's a world outside their house?
Don't even get me started on Gaia. I joined , but the place sure isn't what it's cracked up to be. Agreed, Gaia is just too large. ( at least form my liking.) I think I posted for a little less than a month before I left that place. I was tired of the lawlessness and the members who couldn't type in a sentence correctly, and I couldn't earn enough Gaia gold to get my icon some clothes:animesigh.

Moody in highschool... how regular are YOUR breakdowns?
kayutori_sama replied to Skye's topic in General Discussion
Heh, I don't usually break down alot. The only time I remember was when I was having problems with my mother. She broke my trust...but we won't get into that. I cried all night the night before and I tried to put myself together before school. It worked for a little bit, but my friends could tell somethething was wrong and the kept asking me until I just couldn't keep my peace and I started crying. I tried to shake it off quickly before it got too serious but that didn't work. Finally I calmed down and cleaned up in the bathroom. That was my one major breakdown at school. All my other breakdowns happened at home..or I can't remember them. -
Otaku Boards has alot of members ( old and new) and I was just wondering why you choose to join OB? For me it's the conversation. OB has pretty strict rules on posting and I really appreciate that. I can't tell you how many boards I've been to where this is a typical post. "OMG i luuuuv inuyAsha!!!hes sooooo hot!!!!! and kikyo SUXXXXX. inuyasha and kagome4ever!!!!!" lololololol xD :animesigh ( sad isn't it?) I've been to alot of forums and OB is one of my favorites. Overwhelming majority of the members are very well versed on anime and manga , so having an intelligent discussion on OB isn't hard at all. All the sections of OB are awesome too. You can talk about almost anything under the sun. That is why I kayutori_sama joined Otaku Boards.

MTV should go. Not like any music is being played in the first place.:animedepr All of those "makeover shows" need to be flushed too. Extreme makeover? Gone. Extreme makeover home edition? Dead. A makeover story? Capoot. Talk shows are useless too. Originality went out the window a LONG time ago.

What are you going to be for halloween?
kayutori_sama replied to Starr112's topic in General Discussion
This year I had a revelation. Why not dress up as Little Slugger. I mean all I have to do is paint my rollerblades, pick up a bent up baseball bat, and get a baseball cap, but then I decided against it I think I could pull of a tree succsefully though.... A buddy of mine is going as Naruto....wonder how good his temptation no jutsu is.... -

Anime Why do some people not like anime?
kayutori_sama replied to serenayasha's topic in Otaku Central
Funny. In my experience, anime fans tend to be more angry, opinionated, different from each other, and just flat-out more interesting than most other people.
Granted, anime fans do tend to be more "out there" personality wise, but eventually we would all get sick of each other ranting about our favorite anime. Soon, everyone would turn against each other...and things wouldn't be pretty. -
Have you guys ever walked past a Libby Lu store in the mall? The first time I noticed that store was when a bunch of girls that were barely taller than my hips lined up outside with their hair all curled, wearing tons of makeup and glitter, feathered scarves, and shirts that didn't cover their bellies. They proceeded to dance to some song outiside the store in the shopping center while people crowded around. Some cheering, some quietly jeering. A part of me can see through the eyes of the parents who took their daughters there, (maybe unknowingly) and thinking that it's just so adorable that their 5 year old daughter thinks she's a sex bomb. As for me, I really dispise that store. What ideas are they putting into a young girl's head? That in order for you to feel special and get all this attention and applaud is if you dress like "that" and wear tons of makeup and dance in front of people to music with egotistical lyrics. Talk about Future Show Girls of America! I do think parents are less conservative now. And people in general are less conservative. It's not a bad thing. Time's change. And kids will react to what's popular, what they think is cool. I remember being about 11, and this little girl who I used to be best friends with suddenly blurted out "I'm not a virgin, everyone's doing it!" And I thought, "You're so stupid. You're in elementary school!" When kids think that everyone's doing something, and it's okay, and they want to be a part of the group, you can't really stop them. It'll just make them wanna drink, get tattoos, have sex, whatever it is they're not supposed to be doing. They wanna fit in. And I guess it's not so bad that they're dressing more revealing, haha. I know. Just gotta let them know there are different ideas and perspectives out there that might change their minds and challenge what "everyone's" doing.
Well you can't just let them do as they please. Yes, we're supposed to learn from our mistakes, but not every one does. Teach them good discernment. Steer them in the right correction. Just don't let them run wild. They'll end up where they don't want to be. Sometimes I look at today's kids and I just wonder. It makes me worry because I have an 8 year old brother growing up in this society. It worries me even more because I know one day my own children will be growing up in this society, probably even worse than it is now. Whenever I take the time to actually look at what societyis doing, it either makes me laugh because it's quite stupid , or it makes me disgusted because it's just plain wrong. I mean, there are little 7th and 8th graders at my school who are starving themselves to death when they're already thin! All the fads of today are just a complete 360 degrree turn from the things that were "cool" when I was a kid. When I was a kid, you wanted an Easy Bake Oven or a Tamagatchi. Not Grand Theft Auto San Andreas when you were 8

Anime Why do some people not like anime?
kayutori_sama replied to serenayasha's topic in Otaku Central
Many times I've sat and pondered this question, then it occured to me one day:animeswea . They don't have to like anime. Yes, I do think anime is great, but not every one will like it, and you rub your fandom enough of them that they will like it. Now, then again, there are many ignorant people out there who won't even give anime a chance because they already have the steryotype engraved in their mind. They beleive just because it's animated, that it will be stupid and pointless. Which is very untrue. There are anime out there that are so deep and they just grab you and make you think. Even bring you to tears ( Grave of the Fireflies.) So, let me revise what I said earlier. If a person has watched anime, and given it a fair chance and still isn't too crazy about then let it go. Yes, introducing someone to anime and having them love it too is a great feeling, but that's not being realistc. Not everyone is going to love anime. I we all did, life would get boring. That's my 2 cents. -
Anime Is there such a thing as TOO obsessed?
kayutori_sama replied to Yoru4Kakashi's topic in Otaku Central
Well every anime fan goes through their ,what I like to call " noob fandom stage." In the noob fandom stage you are just totally consumed with anime. I mean you live, breathe, sleep, eat anything anime or manga. I went through it..I remember. Just about the time I was introduced to anime, I went through the "fandom stage." Then awhile after that, you should move on into the "matured fandom" stage. This is where you start to get matured and really love anime. You start to care about artwork, seiyuu, and things of that matter. I'm not saying you must go into those stages, but that's what usually happenes. I love anime and I hope I always will (more than likely), but yes I do beleive there is such thing as "too obsessed". When you start isolating people and locking youreself in your room playing with your Inuyasha plushie, telling it how much you love it and how you'll always be together, and that you won't let Kagome or Kikyo have him. Then there's a serious problem. When you start getting sick over anime...there's a serious problem. -
Yu-Gi-Oh Gx isn't half bad. I think I still prefer the original. Even though the I'm not a fan of the whole "heart of the cards", I still love the original Yu-Gi-oh. I noticed though, that all the GX characters remind me of some of the original Yu-Gi-Oh characters.

Manga What is the funniest manga that you have read so far?
kayutori_sama replied to WhiteAoiFox's topic in Otaku Central
I have 3. Azumangah Daioh, GTO, and Fullmetal Panic. You gotta love Sasuke shooting guns in for role call! That's pure comedy. -
Well this isn't exactly a series, but Grave of the Fireflies is pretty sad.

Manga I need a list of dark mangas. Domestic or Import.
kayutori_sama replied to Otaku America's topic in Otaku Central
Hello, I need some help finding a list of dark mangas. I'm into dark mangas with a mature theme like Deathnote, Monster, 20th Century Boys, & Berserk. Can anyone suggest anymore? I'm not into any manga outside the "dark-theme." For those into dark-themed mangas, answer the following below. Is Blame any good? How many volumes? Samurai Executioner & Immortal Blade any thoughts? Yes, it doesn't matter if it's import or domestic since I can read both even if Japanese is my 4th language learned.
I would reccomend Lady Snowblood, but you'll have to wait a few weeks to get it. Due to the fact it isn't out yet, and yes Samurai Executioner isn't bad. -
Out of my own personal curiosity, I just wanted to see how people feel about this topic. Do you support downloading anime? I know an overwhelming majority does, but I want to hear other opnions too.Personally, I wouldn't download unless I had the intention of buying that series later. Downloading and not buying the series can have bad side effects on the anime industry. Taking an idea for an anime, and actually making the idea an anime is not cheap. Production cost can and will cost thousands of dollars. Not to mention payment for voice actors and things like that. So downloading anime for free, isn't exactly helping them recoop their loses, but what do you think about downloading. For or against it?
-
Anime can be for adults and childre. There are many differents anime out there, and there are many different genres. To say anime is simply meant for children would be incorrect. Take for instance an anime like Paranoia Agent and mature titles like that. A littlle child that watches Pokemon can't possibly unserstand a psychological thriller like Paranoia Agent. Anime is made for all ages, but sadly some people have yet to accept that.

I'm a Christian, and I'm always disappointed in the stereotype Christians out there. I don't think it's right for somebody to try and force a certain point of view down your throat like some Christians do . I don't think it's right to yell and somebody that they are going to hell. Condeming people and acting ignorant because of your beliefs isn't going to solve anything. I'm not saying that I agrree with everything under the sun, but you can't just block it out either.
Yes. The series is incomplete, but there have been no new chapters for quite a while, and the prospects of seeing it continued (at least in the near future) seem pretty dim. Still, I wouldn't lose hope completely. Maybe CLAMP will decide to pull a Maki Murakami. :animesmil ~Dagger~
Let's hope so. My collection feels incomplete with only 3 volmues:animecry:

I don't recall having an imaginary friend, but as a kid I did have a barney doll, and I loved that doll. Come near my barney doll, and you were asking for a serious (yet pathetic) beatdown.

I rember when I watched my first episode of Inuyasha. I didn't know what to say. I couldn't say that I liked it, yet I couldn't say that I did like it. So as the anime fan I am, I continued on with the series and I watched the characters interact with themselves and each other. throughout the anime I watched Kagome and Inuyasha 's relationshp grow , and I watched Inuyasha try to get over is his love for Kikyo. I watched Miroku cop many feels, and get deserving slaps from Sango. Inuyasha.....drama....action....romance....humor and a few other things too ^_^. I like Inuyasha, but I don't think it's as great as people make it seem. I know I'll soon be attacked by Inuyasha'a many legions of fangirls, but that's my opnion. Still, keep in mind that I do liike Inyusha.
I never really thought about it XD I had always assumed it sounded like "cried" with an S put in front of it.
Heh, I always pronounced it as es-cry-ed, but maybe I'm wrong.

s-Cry-Ed is definately a great series. At first I didn't pay much attention to it, to me it resembled a rip off of Gundam (with the HOLY uniforms) and it looked like an all fighting all the time anime, but I said what the heck and I sat down to watch it. After the first episode I just loved the show. Now I just watched episode 10 and I'm loving the show even more. Like others have said before, it might not be the most original or unique storyline, but it's executed well. Great animation, and the dub isn't that bad either. With every episode another twist of the plot is revealed, and the show slowly begins to unravel, but as one twist reveals itself another is making itself known. The one thing that I find slightly annoying about this anime is how some episodes are somewhat incoherant with each other. For example Kazuma might be near the end of a fight in the ending of one episode and in the next he's doing something completely different, but overall s-Cry-Ed is a great anime.
No, what I'm saying is that as far as I know, a fourth volume has never been published in Japan. There are only three tankoubon available, in other words. As for the intended span of the series--I've seen a CLAMP interview in which the ladies stated that the part of the story currently available was only 1/5 of what they had planned. I've gotta say that ~15 volumes of Legal Drug would be pretty awesome, although it seems unlikely that the manga will start up again in the near future. ~Dagger~
Agreed, 15 volumes would be nice, but basically what your're saying is that Legal Drug was abandoned ?

Anime Samurai Champloo [from the creator of Cowboy Bebop]
kayutori_sama replied to Dagger's topic in Otaku Central
Samurai Champloo is one of my favorite samurai anime. I never knew I could find another samurai anime that I liked as much as Ruroken. As I watched the first episode on Ault Swim the night it aired I was simply blown away. I couldn't find the right words to describe the show. The art is beautiful, and the sword scenes are just fluid. Samurai Champloo is one the top of my anime list. -
Actually, I was the Tokypop website a few weeks ago and I did see something there being a fourth volume, but if I'm correct the fourth volume (if there is one) would be the last instalment in the Legal Drug manga.
