Originally posted by Charles I'm not as articulate offline because I'm able to collect my thoughts better when typing.
You know, I really understand this. When you're posting, you can proof-read, re-write, design what you're going to say first, etc. You can even delete it if you don't like what you've said later. I, for example, immediately edit any posts I've made if they have a typo (unless I've missed it because my computer is acting up). It is very easy to act like your ideal self on these boards, if you make the effort. It's not like you have to make an immediate response in a conversation -- you can take time to think about what you are going to say. Perhaps if any of you knew me in real life, except for those of you who have spoken to me on the phone, you'd be surprised with what I'd really say. I literally have no time-lag between my immediate thoughts and my tongue. Charles, I see you, from your posts, as an extremely intelligent yet sensitive person. I perceive things about you. Yet, these could be totally false, because, as you said, you have time to manipulate, if you will, your response. But, at the same time, these are the things you really want to express without the awkwardness of social pressure. And Juuthena, I am not quite sure what to say. I know it is hard for you to bond with people because you have to move around so much. But all of us on OB... we will always be here for you, no matter where in the world you are. I promise you that, and I know many others will promise the same thing. You have become part of our family, and you never have to worry about losing us. We're all together, babe, as long as we have net access. :p

I like traditional worship much better. I've been listening to Vineyard worship since I was pretty young (maybe 14 or so). I've also been getting into Irish worship. Revival in Belfast from Hosanna Music is amazing. They have a whole ensemble of something like 30 Irish instruments, lots of fiddles and flutes, and some things I've never even heard of. The lyrics are pretty modern, though, so it's a good combination. I don't have a problem with Christian rock per se... it's just not my style. It's only become popular in the past ten years, and I'm just not much into the music from that era. I just don't think the music is very good, and I don't listen to "soft rock" at all anymore. Reggae is a classic rock style that has a lot of Christian (Rasta) undertones, so I like listening to that. As for DC Talk... I used to be obsessed.. I think I've seen them perform five or six times, between the ages of 12 to 15 or so. But that was back in my rap/hip-hop days. I had the Jesus Freak album, though. Did they ever make anything after that? More artists from my youth... The Supertones, MxPx, Point of Grace... Amy Grant, Carman...
Originally posted by James Well, of course, that's open to your own beliefs as always. ^_^
Well, yeah, but think about it like this. There are two options: 1) The stuff in Revelations (or any prophetic prediction) is wrong, therefore we don't have to worry about it happening anyway. 2) The stuff is true, therefore must be divinely, supernaturally, esoterically, etc. inspired so nothing can stop it. This is why I think of foretelling the future (psychics and all) as pointless, because if they're legit, you can't change what's going to happen. If you could, they wouldn't have predicted the thing you are trying to change in the first place, but something else entirely, and then you wouldn't try to change it so it would go back to the original prediction, blah blah blah. Most of you will probably have to read that carefully, heh. It's more of a scientific than religious question, the way I see it.

This has sort of switched around for me. I used to have many more intimate relationships online than I did in real life. But lately I've been avoiding people -- isolating myself, if you will. I don't go very many places anymore, and I only really talk to my two best girlfriends. If it's anyone but them on the caller ID, I don't even pick up the phone. Online, I still post on the boards, but I only rarely talk on AIM, and mostly only communicate through e-mail or PM if someone contacts me first. It's not that I don't like people as much... or am trying to blow people off... it's just that I've been lost in my own thoughts, and I also don't want to depress anybody. Come to think of it, if I didn't come here, people would think I'd dropped off the face of the earth...

Anime My thoughts on the Dragon Ball Z Movie
Lady Macaiodh replied to eazy e's topic in Otaku Central
I just hope they have a massive special effects budget. *prays* -
Don't worry, people. I'm sure Clay will get his own record deal and make booku bucks. I doubt he'll suffer terribly. Clay is a better singer, but Reuben has more star quality, and he's more marketable. Simple as that. I like that fact that someone who is not seen as Hollywood beautiful won.

One thing I love about myself is that I see beauty in things when others don't. But something can have certain aspects of beauty and still not be beautiful. Beautiful is more of a whole thing. I'll keep it simple. If something takes my breath away, if it almost causes me a physical ache, it is beautiful.

It's weird... my friends and I were talking about this and I thought of it just the other day. This guy Andy was talking about the Antichrist and he said "The minute that guy shows up and people realize who he is [because obviously it's not going to be hard to figure out], so many people are going to try to assassinate that mother [blankety-blank]." But the thing is, the Antichrist is supposed to die so he can be brought back to life, thus "illustrating" his divinity and therefore conquering the world even further as people begin to worship him as a god. So basically, I don't think it matters what we do because it's going to come about anyway. For all we know, the actions of a person trying to prevent some event may actually be the one to carry it out! We've all seen those types of movies, heheh.

Three Things You Just Ain't Gonna Believe...
Lady Macaiodh replied to Shinken's topic in General Discussion
Well, I drink out of the James River if I'm thirsty enough, and it probably has all kinds of human bodies in it. It's goes through one of the worst parts of town, and I'm sure murder victims are dumped in there all the time. Plus, chemicals get dumped in there. Any sort of water has dead animals and feces in it, anyway. Whatever, it's just a part of nature. You probably think I'm nuts, but I'm going to drink river water if I'm thirsty and it's a hundred degrees outside, and I'm going to be outside for several more hours. I've never gotten sick or anything, and it's better than passing out from exhaustion and heat stroke. -
What element are you based on personality?
Lady Macaiodh replied to klinanime1's topic in General Discussion
I am 100% water. Anyone who knows me in real life would not be surprised by this, nor would some of you. I am at home in the water. I love it and fear it. -
You know, "The Greys." The big headed gray aliens that abduct people & give them anal probes & such. That's what the researchers or whoever call them, & that's how they spell it. That's the only time I spell it with an e. By the way, I don't believe in those things. :p

A slap is meant to humiliate or demonstrate anger, not to cause any real damage. So I doubt those guys really wanted to hurt each other that much. Also, walking away or avoiding potential fight situations doesn't work a lot of the time. Some people are just irrational. And I'd be unlikely to walk away from a fight if I have to turn my back on a dishonorable person, someone who would hit me from behind. That's happened to me a few times, once when I was walking away from an angry person, and a few times where I was just sucker punched from the side and couldn't see. So yeah, you can't always use logic or reasoning with this sort of thing. Defending the blows or kicks doesn't always work either, because if the person is determined enough, they will eventually get in some good ones or use weapons. The best thing to do is just subdue them as soon as you can. I'm not going to put myself at risk just because I don't want to have to hurt a stupid person. This is in general, by the way. I don't often fight. And I have never in my life picked a fight with somebody. In fact, I hate having to fight, and always feel guilty afterwards, even if the person deserved it. I should have started carrying a taser, so I wouldn't have to do it anymore.

I spell "gray" when referring to the color and "grey" when referring to the aliens.

I actually think I'm allergic to caffine or something. If I drink even one cup of coffee, I get all shaky, then 15 or so minutes later I feel like I'm going to pass out and have to go lay down. Everything I drink is caffine free. Also, I don't like chocolate. I don't like the taste. So, I guess I'm pretty healthy in the caffine area. Over the years, I've made up for it in consumption of cigarettes & alcohol... :cough:

I don't think I ever once went on the last day, at least after I got to high school. I mean, what's the point of that?

The word I hate is "swab." It just sounds so stupid. It has to be the dumbest sounding word ever. Another thing is how different dialects have different spellings for the same word. I'd like to be able to write or type "colour" but everyone in the US thinks I'm misspelling it. I think it's prettier than "color", though.

I've been obsessed with telekinesis since I was very young. I think Jean Grey has the sweetest powers, so I want powers like hers. I'd like to say I'd do good with my powers, but that's a complete lie and we all know it. The power would go straight to my head. I'd be robbing banks that are miles away. I can also seriously see myself doing the Tetsuo thing -- going on the rampage though the city wearing a red cape and causing complete chaos, just because I'm pissed off and insane. Realistically, I'd probably live very much like I do now and not let very many people know about my powers. I'd sit back and listen to people's thoughts and contemplate my next move, like a game of chess. But, yeah, I'd probably be pretty bad.

The absolute funniest thing is when I freak her out by talking about my sexual experiences (she's a complete prude, but in a good way). I can talk to her about practically anything. It took us a long time to get this far, though. I guess I had to quit acting like a nutcase first.

James, I was wondering what exactly you meant by "welfare." I'm trying to figure out if it's the same thing in Australia as it is here.

Bad Grades and Grossly Extensive Punishments
Lady Macaiodh replied to Corey's topic in General Discussion
Originally posted by DarkOrderKnight Well, contrary to what my sig says I'm still here temporarily. That is, untill my report card comes. My single bad grade (a D) amongst mostly A's and afew B's is getting me two months of grounding, I have to temporarily quit my job, no videogames, no TV, no movies, no anime (...sigh...), no leaving the house, and no friends over. Basically, my life is being reduced to nothing over a single, first ever, bad grade. How do you get punished for bad grades?
Yeah, my parents were just like that. Therefore, I refused to allow myself to get bad grades. There was a lot of pressure, but now I'm glad I buckled down and did it. I wonder if that has anything to do with how wild & crazy I got after high school... -
Question (for lack of a better subject title)
Lady Macaiodh replied to GinnyLyn's topic in General Discussion
One thing that always keeps me from being myself is dress codes. As soon as I put on some sort of business attire, my whole personality changes because I'm supposed to be impressing someone. It's just something my mother has drilled into my head. Society expects a certain amount of conformity. It's just the way it is. -
I can take it one further, Pressure. I saw a documentary (Dateline, I think) a few years ago about a boy & a girl who were affiliated with a certain type of the Biblical religion (can't remember what it was) who had made the vow to never touch each other until they were married. They always sat at least a foot and a half (I'm estimating here) apart so they wouldn't accidentally touch. Their once-a-week dates were chaperoned. I couldn't believe it! At first I was like "dear God!" But then the footage of their wedding was shown. They were so blissfully in love & held hands the whole time after the ceremony. Just the act of holding hands was made so special because of their vow. It was the sweetest thing, and at the end I envied them.

Anime When should you stop watching anime?
Lady Macaiodh replied to AnimeAddict's topic in Otaku Central
I just got this frightening vision of us... Our kids will think we're completely insane for going to anime conventions in our forties, & will view us as people view "trekkies" now. rotfl! A few of my friends jokingly call me an anime geek as it is, because I still watch it at my age (I'm 23). My interest has gone down somewhat, because Dragonball Z has always been my favorite, and it's over now. I have never liked an anime as much as DBZ & I doubt I ever will. I was also totally obsessed with Ninja Scroll, but I've seen it 50 thousand times. So it's kind of anti-climactic for me at this point in my life. Plus, it's hard to find the time anymore. I've been meaning to rent Akira for the 500th time for about 2 weeks now, but I haven't had the chance. This is what I'm talking about. Being an adult can really suck that way. -
Well, he commited crimes against the government, so technically he is. But think about the Berlin Wall being torn down or the coup in the former USSR. Or the American Revolution, whatever. Those anti-government actions were necessary to free citizens from what they saw as oppressive rule. So maybe there are different kinds of terrorism. Or maybe I'm totally wrong. I've never really thought about it before.
