1. I apologize to everyone for getting so upset & rude before. It's just that this incident hit really close to home. No one deserves to have something like that happen to them. Watching the footage made me seriously angry.
2. My school did not offer any AP classes, which is one of the many reasons that it sucked donkey you-know-whats. Believe it or not, Tori, I am highly envious of your anxiety about the tests. At least you had the option. So I guess it could be worse. You obviously care a lot about you future.
3. Harry, I am so far beyond sick of you. I can't believe you are saying this stuff. I understand that you like to create "controversy" to get "attention" but at some point there is a line you don't cross. You obviously have no compassion for others, and it is the people without compassion that make the world the sick place it is. It's people like you who carried out the events on the tape. So, congratulations, your more of a conformist than you thought. You should be ashamed of yourself. I'd say more, but I don't want to violate the rules of the boards.
4. I cannot believe the attitude of some of the people in this thread! First of all, I think many of us underestimate the power of peer pressure on high school students. That's no excuse, but whatever. I watch a lot of news & I've been seeing this story over and over since last night. A girl from the high school was interviewed and on camera stated that she didn't see what the big deal was. It happens every year. Quote: "So one girl got her head split open. It's not like anybody died." I did not hear one report of anybody being paid to participate, out of all the footage I've seen, including the "Today" show and the local news. According to the reports, it was during a powder puff football game, teams consisting of juniors versus seniors. It's kind of a ritual for the junior girls to get hazed after the game, to initate them as seniors. So, yeah, the junior girls did submit to it. But all of the girls were severely beaten. They were forced to eat animal guts & had animal & human feces smeared in their faces and shoved in their mouths. You can see from the footage that they were bludgeoned with blunt objects & subjected to various forms of humiliation. It was a complete riot, with no chance of escape. Most disturbing to me was the footage of somebody yelling "Somebody stop her!" (meaning, somebody stop this) and the blond girl screaming in agony "Please, somebody help me!" This was the girl who was stomped until her ankle was broken. I don't know how many of you have been beaten and couldn't defend themselves, but for anybody who thinks that the victims should just deal with it because they agreed to being hazed, disgusts me. Obviously, the victims did not agree to this. I am so disturbed by this, I can't even describe it. I can't believe things like this are going one among teenage kids. You hear about it, but every time you see it, it's still a shock.
5.
Originally posted by Harry To be honest I don't think anyone would even know their third cousin.
This is actually a good point, as Anatema also pointed out. A person could easily fall for someone they're related to, especially in a family with estranged relatives or illegitimate children... and that kind of stuff is what is usually kept secret. Just look at Whitney and Chad on Passions, heh. If you think about it, it could happen to anybody. Creepy...
6. I've always loved the characters who are torn between the two (Vegeta-sama, anybody?), who started out evil (or acting evilly) & end up transformed by some experience (love is a good one). Or, if you want a beautifully tragic character, someone who started out good but became hardened & "evil" because of a combination of events. I don't really believe in good or evil in this case. Usually there's an explanation behind why the character is acting a certain way... it's not like they were born one or the other.
7. Damn, I don't know what to say. If something happened to either of my brothers, I'd be crushed for life. The only thing I can tell you is to stay close to your loved ones, they will be there for you. And I'd probably be getting drunk, too, so I won't say anything about that, other than everyone copes in different ways, so do what you gotta do. Just don't make yourself go through it alone.
8. Ummm... every person I know who is a child of related parents is a bit... off. They don't look any different or anything, but mentally... yeah. I'd say it's not worth the risk. And even if they broke up, imagine how awkward the family reunions would be. We all know how uncomfortable it can be when you run into an ex, especially one who didn't treat you very well or has seen you naked. If they were part of your family, you'd never get away from them. Not a good idea, I'd say, but I guess if two people were desperately in love... it'd be their decision.
9.
Originally posted by Mitch I see..
Yeah, I know. What's up with that rule, anyway? I think mods should be able to participate, too.
10. Aieeee! You all are driving me nuts. I have to wait three more hours because my mom annoyingly wanted to take a nap first. The movie critic over here gave it only 1 1/2 stars. I really hate that guy.
11. Now this is odd. There are countries where the women walk around topless all day, yet that's obviously not porn. The guys there don't care because they're used to it. The point is, since when did a naked body automatically become perverted? Since someone took a picture of it? It all depends on your perception. I, for one, don't get horny looking at Playboy or Playgirl (don't really look at Playgirl, though). So here we have a thread full of people jumping all over each other & talking about the Bible. Just let people have an opinion, for godssake, without turning it into some kind of religious debate? Because -- and let's face it -- if someone doesn't agree with the Bible you're not going to change their mind by preaching at them! You're just going to piss them off. Great way to win souls for the kingdom.
12. Sara, even though you didn't describe a place, I felt like I was there & could see it all happening in my mind. I haven't seen someone create a mood so easily in quite some time.
13. I think everyone has used terms like that. You have to look at the person's intention behind saying it. I use words like that to sometimes describe someone's appearance, not their personality, because it's just easier to visualize. Most people aren't true "punks" or "goths", anyway, they just have that style of dress. But when words like that are used in a derogatory way, it does bother me. In my school, we didn't really have much of that talk, because we had uniforms and our appearances were strictly regulated (i.e., all the guys had to have short hair). So there wasn't much room for individuality in that area. Plus, we could only listen to Christian music, and talk about other kinds of music was "strongly discouraged". So it was hard to figure most people out & what they were like, because the front was so outrageous.
14. The first thing everyone needs to know is that I?m probably a terrible writer. In fact, this application should most likely be rejected and deleted before it abuses anyone?s eyesight even further. However, I do understand the morbid curiosity of humans and realize that if this does turn out atrociously, it will probably be made into posters for the ridicule of the teeming masses. If no one reads them, they can always be torn down and used on the bottoms of birdcages, so at least I will have contributed something to society, which is very important to me. I do want to make a difference in the world, whether it is dissecting the human brain to discover the secret of telekinesis, or bashing someone over the head with my guitar because they?re acting like a dolt (I?d have to use my electric, though, since the skull is quite hard and my acoustic would most likely break). As can be seen from these two examples, my self encompasses a broad range of characteristics, from scientific genius to drunken PMSing musician, hence these insane ramblings. Obviously, it is very difficult to define myself, unless I were to write twelve War and Peace sized books that nobody would read or understand, and that I?d be too lazy to write anyway. In fact, this essay is but a mere example of me and the way I write. It is like staring at one of my fingernails and trying to figure out what the rest of me looks like. The only thing anyone would be able to discern is that I don?t care about my nails at all. This fact could be construed in any number of ways, some true, some false. So, therefore, each entry I submit, if I make it that far, is only a small portion of the whole, and will probably be vastly different from one another. We all have our various kinds of madness and I look forward to the challenge of illustrating the wisdom of my own. I also promise not to write any haikus like the 30-second one Charles demanded of Mitch, which, though grossly unfair, was also terribly amusing.
15. Could be any number of things, namely the slobber, bad breath, etc. You have to admit, having a bad kiss, especially with someone you don't really like, can be pretty disgusting. Blech.
16. This varies a lot for me. Sometimes I come here every day, then I'm known to disapppear for months without a single post. Recently, I might skip a few days here & there, but I keep up with the threads. There are times when I just don't feel like coming. Like others said, people do start to outgrow the boards. It sucks, yeah. Maybe if all of us older members stuck together & stayed it would work, but sometimes it's impossible. We get jobs, go off to college, even begin to form families (though so far only Sephiroth & I have done that -- man, I really miss him sometimes). Ahem. Back to the subject. The longest I've stayed on here is probably something like 4 hours or more, though I might have been simultaneously IMing. I come here because I have friends here, some of them good friends who I can't imagine not talking to. I just hope we don't all grow apart. :(
17. Yeah, the one plot point that really pisses me off... the sexism of the writers... There are so few kickass girls in the show. Yeah, Chi-Chi & Videl were strong, but they realistically had no chance of ever defeating an enemy. Android 18 was the only female (as far as I can remember) to have a significant victory (against SSJ Vegeta). I haven't seen GT yet, so I don't know how powerful Pan will become. I wish she could transform, but whatever. Question, & this is going to sound weird because there's no way to really know the answer: What exactly is the basis of turing into a Super Saiya-jin? What I mean is, does the male Saiya-jin simply have to reach a certain power level? If so, is it the same for everyone? Or can females, since they obviously can't physically transform, reach that kind of power level without having any physical manifestations of it? Or are the females just naturally weaker & more pathetic? This is an opinion question, not a technical one, so I highly recommend everyone lie to me that Pan could be just as powerful as Goku.
18. I want to join, but I only will if the powers that be swear they will not actually make us write haikus. I cannot stand those things. I think it's the formula part of it. I never thought writing should be so restricted. So, what's the verdict? Just so you judges can't pull a dirty trick, I'm stating for the record that this is not my application. Heh.
19. Actually, I didn't mean any of that. I was just kidding. I thought the "heh" made it clear. Oh, well. Besides, since I'm staying with my parents, I have no chance of being the most intelligent person in the room. Maybe a tie, at best, on a good day. Plus, James is coming home from college for a few weeks, and I will surely be made to feel like an idiot on an hourly basis. :p
20. Yeah, I miss not having to pay bills & all that good kiddie stuff, but other than that... I graduated & never looked back. I don't miss high school at all. I hated it when I was going & when I think about all the stuff that happened I get pissed off. It's so bad that I was afraid to go to college because I thought it would be the same as high school. I waited a year and a half to go, even though I was number one in my class. Everyone was completely shocked when I opted to get a full time job after graduation. I didn't even bother trying to explain it. Fortunately, I was totally wrong about college. It is soooo much better in every way, shape, & form. Now I wish I'd gone sooner, instead of getting all rebellious & wild in the victorious period that sprang from the knowledge that I'd never have to 1) Wear a stupid uniform, 2) Listen to moronic rules, 3) Get harassed by principals, teachers, & students, 4) Talk to the stupid kids from my parents' church, 5) Sit through boring chapel, 6) Worry about getting lunch detention, 7) Try my best not to start crying because I can't leave to do it in privacy, etc., ever again! So, yeah. It sucked.
21. "Red & Yellow moments before eating each other in an uncontrollable case of the munchies." Yes, I know. The first response I give, & it's a picture about weed. Take it however you want. And don't pick me. I don't have any funny pictures & I'm way too lazy to search for any.
22. I forgot to mention that I'm an incredibly talented genius. I don't know if that counts as a personality trait or innate characteristic, but yeah, I like that. Though it does get annoying always being the most intelligent person in the room. Heh.
23. Okay, I know this question will be answered soon (tomorrow for me), but I thought I'd throw it out there anyway, since it's been plaguing me endlessly & I can't fathom as to why others are not similarly plauged. In previews, you see Rogue & Iceman kiss. When she pulls back, nothing happens to Iceman, & Rogue breathes out frost breath. You see my point. How in the hell are they going to explain this? Everyone knows that Rogue has no control whatsoever of her power to absorb energy through touch. Iceman should have at least collapsed on the floor for a few hours. The writers have better not have made up something stupid that couldn't have happened in the comic, like she learns how to control it or something. With all the things that got changed around in the original, that would seriously piss me off.
24. Didn't they do "Screaming Infidelities"? When I first heard the song, I thought it was mundane. Then I realized what it was about & really liked it. One of my dear friends was basically killing himself with heroin at the time, so it was my theme song for awhile. I haven't heard anything else by them, though.
25. I went through a time period of almost two years where I listened to nothing but Metallica, Pantera, & The Misfits. So that should answer your question. If I absolutely had to name Metallica favorites (which is very hard), Master of Puppets would be my essential album, & as for songs... that is just waaaay too hard. Off the top of my head, I'll say "Battery" or "Damage, Inc." But that's just the mood I'm in right now. I need a good shot of adrenaline.
