1. For... the... last... time... Treton wanted to know where in the Bible it says that Jesus met gay people! Please get this straight, people, before I have to bash my skull through the wall.
2. I can't believe that so many people are still this close minded. Christians are idiots, gay people are perverted... I can't believe Mnemolth even compared it to incest. That's just reaching. And cloricus, my respect for you after this & other recent threads is practically non-existant. You could at least try to explain your side of things without taking everything you read totally out of context. Treton wasn't even trying to disprove anything, he just wanted to see where the Bible said Jesus met gay people! God! It's like you'll take any excuse to bash Christians, which makes you no better than all the racists, homophobes, sexists, etc. I just wish you had empathy for other people's situations or beliefs, for once.
3. In my experience, it leads to a cycle of endless abuse. Damn, this is hard to talk about. My (soon-to-be-ex) husband still sometimes says that he had the right to beat me over something that happened once. But he gets offended very easily & holds a grudge forever. I used to have a liberal view of revenge, but not anymore. I just had to remember the terror I continuously felt.
4. Sorry, but I'd rather die than do either of those things audibly, whether in public or private, in front of anybody. If I just can't hold it in (god, it's embarrassing even writing this) I'll go to the bathroom. I have at least enough self-control to hold it in! And if a guys burps in front of me, it's even worse than a fart. I mean, that's so disgusting. Especially when they just open their mouths & almost try to make it louder. That is just soooo rude, it's a huge turn off. I don't mind the farting thing too much because my brother used to fart on me on purpose when we were kids. But I couldn't imagine kissing a guy who has recently burped in front of me. It's just nasty.
5. I don't believe it's a force of nature or whatever, but rather a natural chain of events. Our actions, no matter how seemingly insignificant, dictate our future. That's just logical. I also believe in an afterlife, where good & bad things catch up to you, so I guess that's part of it, too.
6. Here's another scenario, & I have actually heard about this happening. A man (or woman) is trapped alone on a desert island as the result of shipwreck &, in hopes that he will be saved in time, begins to saw off his own flesh & eat it.
7.
Originally posted by Rick Hunter I was staying over a friends house and well apparently I was so out of it I used the bath tub instead of the toilet bowl to go.
While drunk I have used: My parents' coat closet, My friend's laundry pile, My other friend's mop bucket, A cup then poured it on another friend who had passed out. I'm glad I don't get drunk anymore. So, you see, the bathtub is really not that embarrassing. :toothy:
8. Yeah, I agree, DeathKnight, that's why I believe (& no one has to agree) that the only important principles are love God & love you neighbor as yourself. The Golden Rule & such. All the other stuff is dogma & red-tape.
9.
Originally posted by PiroMunkie *knock on wood* Be sure not to jinx yourself. ;) The last two people I know who have said that got it worse not long after.
Nah, I've never jinxed myself. In fact, I fly in the face of superstition! Bwahahaha!
10.
Originally posted by cloricus Meh, people bash Christians because they are a pack of idiots. (The Christians that is.)
Cloricus... this is exactly what everyone means by generalizing. Thank you for providing the perfect example. You actually just insulted your own family. I guess they're idiots, too. You could have said "some Christians" but you didn't. This is the thoughtlessness that causes all the problems. It's like you didn't even read the thread. EDIT: Jesus Chicken, what you said was completely fair.
11. I've always got a big kick out of those stupid old ones with godzilla & stuff. They were just soooo terrible.... & yet good. Adam knows what I mean.
12.
Originally posted by Charles Going into the theater, I had no idea that Daredevil kills his victims. There was more blood than I expected too. Some of the fight scenes were a tad ridiculous and exaggerated though. I still don't like the idea of two people fighting in a school yard over a name....
For the first thing, that was a surprise to me, too. It didn't give me a lot of sympathy for the Daredevil character. That guy has serious issues. And for the second thing, it wasn't just a tad ridiculous. It was utterly ridiculous. If someone had done that to me (followed me & started sparring) after I was obviously not interested, I would have thought he was the ultimate weirdo, pressed charges, & filed a restraining order. What a freaking weirdo! And I don't often use that word, either. Matt needs serious therapy.
13. Well, I know your fetish is bondage. We're spamming... ::scampers away::
14. Harry, would you be able to eat someone without getting sick? You haven't really told us what you think, other than you don't think it's immoral. What about the grossness factor? I personally would eat human flesh if necessary but I don't know if I could swallow without gagging, or keep it down.
15. You should definitely quit if in interferes with your education. Also, there are a lot of opportunities for employment on campus. If you establish yourself by impressing your professors, they could recommend you for a position, or tell you about one, that you would actually enjoy & learn from at the same time. You seem like the type to delve deeply into your interests, even in your spare time, so you could ask the professors that you find interesting if they are working on anything you could help with. Every genius needs a mentor. :) At least you're not doing something you find tedious, & it could open a lot of doors for you.
16. Yet, oddly enough, people love to point out the sins of others. More hypocracy at work.
17. There are two main reasons why people bash Christianity. 1) They have been exposed to bad behavior of some kind by hypocrites who claim to be Christian. A true Christian (in my opinion) strives to love & not judge everybody. So, as Transtic pointed out, Christian-bashers are really making a generalization. 2) People see Christians as arrogant because their Bible says that if you don't follow it, you're going to hell. Following other religions, or chosing not to believe in God, is a sure-fire way to damnation. This doesn't really leave people with many options, & that causes resentment, which I can understand. If someone told me I was going to hell, I'd tell them to go themselves. The Bible is a man-made interpretation of God's word, & there are even versions that contradict each other. The original English Bible, the King James, cut at least 1500 pages from the original text. There are certain Christians (& I'm not saying all, mind you) who need to realize that the Bible has flaws. For example: If God can do anything, can he create a rock too heavy for him to lift? I'm not saying all Christians are like this, but I think realizing this would help them spread their message in a more compassionate manner (since people can easily take it the wrong way) & also help their own peace of mind. I've met some Christian gay people who are constantly confused & beating themselves up over it, & that doesn't seem like they have the "peace that passes understanding" that following God is supposed to bring. Do any of you realize how many things are sins, according to the Bible? Nobody could live up to the standards of that thing! It's impossible! I think it would help if people didn't take it so literally. Then nobody would be pushing their views about unimportant stuff (like being gay, as I already mentioned), & nobody would be dramatically offended by the stuff they read in there.
Originally posted by PiroMunkie I have no real feelings of contempt for anyone. I am not one to look down on another, nor do I look up to anyone. Which helps explain why I am quite "anti-authority", I do not like them because they believe they are higher than I am. Though, that is a bit of a different topic.
This is actually a very good point, which supports the first thing I said. I've encountered way too many Christians that thought they were somehow superior to me if I didn't agree with them. I was either "blinded by the devil" or "deceived" or something. And I was offended that they came up to me saying how horribly I was living my life & that I needed to be more like them. Either way, it was something drastically wrong that I was doing, not any behavior on their part that turned me off. Keep in mind that I'm not bashing Christianity. I'm a Christian myself but the behavior of some "Christians" really bothers me and there are things I don't agree with at all. But I think God is flexible on those nasty little gray areas.
18. Is there a limit on this check? The obvious solution is to write it for more than you need for the prom so you'll have money left over. Ha! I know, you don't have to say it. But that's what I'd do.
19. Well, obviously if you're in a civilized country & somebody found out, you'd go to prison. But in other places, cannibalism is a regular thing. We only see it as barbaric because of the culture we live in. Animals do it all the time, if that's what food they have. But doing it on a regular basis when you have other food is immoral, IMO. About your scenario, I personally don't know. I probably couldn't go through with it. Then again, hunger can drive people insane. I could see people turning primitive, instinctually, in order to survive, hunting each other down. In that case, it probably wouldn't be immoral since all sense of right & wrong has gone out the window (in which case it wouldn't really matter if it was immoral or not).
20.
Originally posted by Blanko well as i was locking up i heard something so i went back inside... i caught the trash on fire. . . it spread to the wierd pizza boxes on the counter. . . HAHAA i guess i did not but the cig out well enough. . so i quickly grabbed the fire estinguisher (sp) and put it out.. i have use one before so i knew how to use it... and once it was out i noticed what a good job i did in makeing a mess...
Dear God, you could've killed yourself! Those trailers go up like kindling. We've had about 3 or 4 in the trailer park I used to live in this past year. A few people died. It's a good thing your sister was smart enough to have a fire extinguisher. A lot of people don't even think of it. Have you noticed that when you're a kid, games aren't worth playing unless the inflicting of pain is involved? I used to have this game with my brothers called "sandwich." One person laid on the ground & the other two, one after the other, would jump onto the person in the worst way possible, like knees first or something, from this really tall bookshelf. The first jumper would have to lay on top of the bottom person while the second jumper threw themselves on top of the other two. The basic point was to inflict as much damage as possible. No one ever wanted to be on the bottom.
21. I've been living in a whirlwind of excitement & insane commotion for years. Boy, am I tired. Now that it's settled down, I'm just looking forward to some peace & quiet. Be careful what you wish for. At this point, I'd rather things be boring. Think about it like this: things could be a lot worse!
22. Well, I always thought the name Bra SUCKED BALLS. If it were real, Vegeta would've died of shame. Or killed Bulma so he could name her himself. You can get away with Trunks as a name or Bulma Briefs but naming Vegeta's daughter Bra just went way too far. God! And to think she's technically a princess! "All Hail Princess Bra!" I'm sorry. No.
23. The only reason this movie was even made was because of the success of Spiderman. What the hell did y'all expect? The only good parts were Ben Affleck :tasty: & the interpretation of what the world looked like through his eyes (or ears, as it were). That was pretty sweet looking.
24. I moved back in with my parents around the end of January.
25. Yeah, SS, I agree. Though I usually always disagreed with what he said, I never flamed him or anything. Even though he would insult people, it's pretty stupid to do the same to him, since that's what started the whole controversy in the first place. I think the reason people disliked him so much was that debates escalated into huge arguments because he started off with a tactless comment & eventually everyone got pissed off. But I've never been the type to let an argument make me hate a person! Example: I hardly ever agree with gokents' political views, and I'm pretty anti-Republican, but we're friends. And Vegitto4's comments in the "Homosexuality" thread annoyed the hell out of me (understatement), but look at my sig. He's probably my best friend on the boards. I actually kind of like Harry, even though a lot of stuff he does drives me insane. It's also pretty funny, since his obvious intent is to get a rise out of people, and all of you make it so easy. Do you really think you're going to change his mind about anything? Whether his thread was true or not, at least it made some people think about whether or not he's such a bad person as his rep. NOTE: I've never seen a thread like this where people openly discuss a member without their input. Is this quite appropriate? If someone started a thread about me, I'd be embarrassed as hell. I guess that makes me a hypocrite in a way, but the resposes to his thread were pretty harsh.
