1. It actually took you that long? Hm. Well it usually took me about 10 minutes to walk from my cousin's hotel room to the convention center and I walked back and forth at least 10 times for the one day I was there. I didn't get to check out any of the art for sale, basically I came too late. I might submit some art next year, and wanted to see the kind of stuff people submit (basically if mine is good enough, hehe). Also, yes 12012 was so good, I can't stop saying that! Too bad I didn't get to see them outside of the concert, but I heard that they were very curtious and down to earth to the fans that ran into them. No, I didn't noticed the terrorist cosplayers... :animestun Next year, I have got to stay for at least 2 days.
2.
Halloween is only second to Christmas when I consider my favorite holidays. It's the atmosphere, it's the amber leaves, it's the nostalgia, it's the smell of cut grass when your jogging out to the football field, it's the scary movies and cheesy kids specials, it's the candy. Whatever it is, it's what makes halloween so special. But now it's just bittersweet, because it just feels like I can't enjoy it as much as I did when I was five years old. I guess it's that I can't eat candy anymore, and I guess that's just sad.
Dude, you just summed it up for me in the perfect words. Except for the "I can't eat candy anymore" part and second to Xmas. Seriously though, Halloween does have a feel to it, and the memories you have as a kid during Halloween always comes back. Halloween for me this year will probably take place in my cold lonely apartment. =P. Again. I miss being 17 and trick-or-treating with my buddies. :animesigh
3. Fashion Magazines. I wouldn't ever pay money to buy a fat magazine filled with 95% pictures of people wearing "fashionable" expensive clothing. I mean nobody normal really looks in those mags and want to go to Neiman Marcus to buy that outfit. Then the articles in those magazines which take up the other 5% are so boring and shallow. I don't keep up with these trends. I can just watch tv for it. Just my view.
4.
Sad, but not surprising. The Asian education/society system in general puts so much pressure on young kids that some of them are bound to snap. I mean, I've heard plenty of cases from my mom where kids just go crazy and buckle under the pressure, either committing suicide or killing their parents. I think that's why Japan has the highest suicide rate, too.
Hm. Does Japan really have the highest suicide rate? I mean, I wouldn't be that surprised, even not that surprised after reading about the Hikikomori, but it's still really sad. They put so much pressure on school kids in the "developed" Asian countries, they're bound to snap in one way or another.
5.
And before you come back saying she was trying to kill others, she was out of her mind, she wasn?t thinking oh that car has a mother and kids I think I?ll aim for that one! I?m sorry, but some of your responses disgust me just as much as the kid who killed the mother.
I think that most of us who might be viewed as being harsh and insensitive towards this girl... just don't want her to be excused for what she's done. Excuses. "Out of her mind" or "immature." She still killed somebody because she was careless. Did you guys read the article? She ran her car HEAD-ON into SOMEONE ELSE'S CAR that was occupied. I'm pretty sure that you would know people are in the other car when it's also moving. She could've at least drove off a bridge or something. But no, she drove right into an innocent family. The only people I feel sorry for is that family that got hurt because of someone's careless decisions.
6. Geez. If what the article reports is really true, then that is one pathetic suicide attempt over something stupid! Like Gavin said, at least have the decency to kill yourself and not drag others down with you. Now she's going to have to live the rest of her life with the fact that she destroyed people's lives, and her poor choice is publicized.
7. Oh, I didn't know that someone actually replied to this thread! I brought my little sister and cousin, and they had fun. We were only there on Saturday 5-1, though. Best part I thought was the concert. 12012 really rocked, I was very impressed by them! They put up a good show, and were very engrossing to watch. I don't usually listen to that genre much, but it was hard for me to leave the concert early b/c I had to head home, but they were really entertaining. The dealer's room basically closed before I got to really look around. I heard that every stand had the same stuff, though. I had a lot of fun, even though all I did was walk around gawking at cosplayers most of the time. =D
8. I think that the USA is working pretty hard to get the other nations together to discuss the matter. We really need to be careful about this. Yes, there is a big threat, but you're suggesting that we ready for another war, instead of finding other alternatives. As far as the whole pulling out of Iraq idea, I don't think that's the best way of going about anything-- by quitting something else. We can't run into Korea like we did to Iraq. :animeangr We are in a tough war and it's just the beginning. We created a war over there, we can't just step out and leave a mess for someone else to clean up. Not only that, but I think Iraq is the immediate priority right now.
9. Seems to me like my roomates just had bad habits, and you guys were basically living with psychos. Indifference, I cannot believe she would stoop so low as to solicit kids like that. That is so sick, I don't even know what else to say but to be disgusted after reading that. I was just wondering if you guys picked your roomates, or did you just kind of end up with them because of some kind of housing hook-up?
10. It really shocks me how people can consume so much unhealthy foods. When I look in the back of American snacks I usually see a zillion ingredients, half are the same as the ones on every other box. When I look on the back of asian snacks, usually 4 or 5 basic ingredients plus MSG hehehe... I think that in the American market, there's just so much junk food, junk food galore, and it's just so easily available and easy to eat/make. I also think that the foods are usually extreme in something. Like really salty, really sweet, really cheesy, and people have become very tolerant to these flavorful ingredients. I know a lot of people that come to America and wonder why their food is so sweet/salty. I guess it just depends on your taste and control. As for me I usually give in to my cravings, and I don't have a lot of unhealthy cravings. I probably consume a can of coke a week, and that's actually a big increase from how much soda I consume since I was in high school, like once a month!
11. Alright, so who's going to Oni-Con 2006? This year will be my first year going to an anime convention, and I'm in my early twenties. Kind of feel too old and ashamed and dress up and all that, but I am VERY content not going with a costume. =D I'm unsure of what to expect at anime conventions. I heard the previous Oni-Cons were relatively small, and last year, there were a lot of issues involving the management of the hotel. This year the event will be at the George R. Brown Convention center, which is a HUGE place in the middle of downtown Houston. My expectations is that it will be a giant event. Anime has grown in popularity, people are becoming more informed of these events, a lot of people who went to the convention last year will come again, and it's Houston, so I'm expecting a large crowd. If you've been to one of these cons, can you give me a brief of what to expect? I'm aware of the art gallery, a J-Rock concert, anime to buy, music video/cosplay contests, anything else? I'm also bringing my 12 yr old sister, and 10 yr old boy cousin, so I hope they'll have the freedom to wonder around without me having to look after them too much. What's there for children to see?
12. RiflesAtRecess, that is really messed up, dude. ::shakes head:: I feel sorry for you, man. I think that for a lot of people, it was their family. The immediate people around them that drove them crazy and had the biggest effect on them. Sometimes good, sometimes bad. It was definately my parents relationship that killed a big part of me. For almost all my life I thought I had a perfect family. My friends thought I had a perfect family. People were always telling me, "Your family is perfect." But it's all a big lie. My parents are so ****ing immature. I don't know how they've lived with each other so long, I think they need the drama. I despise them for using me and my sisters to solve their problems and be responsible for their ****. Solve them yourself.
13. Hm... My best advice would be to apply to the school and simultaneously apply to the scholarships the college offers. I don't know if you're still offered scholarships if you want to go to an out of state school... I don't remember, it's been a while since I've applied to college. Anywayz, you should try checking out the scholarships the specific school offers. I think a lot of scholarships from the school goes unclaimed. I've had no success applying to random scholarships in my senior year in high school. It wasn't until I went to college and discovered they offered scholarships there, and I applied.
14.
it's weird cos half of the acts I know, no one's ever heard of. Let's start with my favourite, Bloc Party. - Fury
I think that Bloc Party is a lot more famous than you think. Bands similar to Bloc Party I think are more popular among people past high school age that go exploring for music. Anywayz, BP rocks! Didn't you make a thread on BP, Leon Fury? hehe. There's a European band called The Servant that I think is very unique. Their music was featured in that movie, Sin City. Their song, Papyrus, makes me feel like it was meant to be listened underwater or in some weird dream-like world.
15. Achorage, Alaska? That's really interesting. I've always been curious about Alaska, it being far up north away from the states and all. I would like to visit there one day. As for me, I would like to live in the middle of a major city for a few months. I just want to be able to not drive a car, but go places, interesting crowded places. Plus, I'd like to be in a place with a crapload of people, and a busy atmosphere for a little while. I live pretty close to the city, but I don't get that feeling. Another place I'd like to be is a cold place where the leaves change colors and the winter seasons are like what we study in elementary books. Orange/red leaves in the fall, snowflakes in the winter. I'd like to be in a place like that for a few months.
16. One of my favorite lines from Darkwing Duck, SunfallE, was when DD would introduce himself: "I am the phone call that wakes you at 4 in the morning... I am Darkwing Duck!" =P
17. Wow. Hope you had a lock on your door. Who knows if she sprawled around naked on your bed.
18. I was reading Aramik's posting about the man who killed his roomate because of something to do with toilet paper, so I've decided to make a thread on roomates. Tell me about your experiences with roomates that made you want to punch them. I've lived with 6 different people during my college experience. Here are my own experiences, written in 3rd person. From bad to worst. I had 10 points, but I decided to cut to the worse ones. Top 5: 6. Your roommate?s alarm clock sounds like a ****ing car being broken into next to your bed every time it goes off. She doesn?t even turn it off after hours of ringing. Literally. You had to ?dismantle? the alarm for her. 7. Your roommate?s boyfriend?s guy friends lay on top of you when you?re taking a nap. Then they denied it and started blaming each other. Then they blamed you. 8. While lying on the carpet, you feel something itchy. You look around and notice hair all over your bedroom and bathroom. You scream. It turns out your roommate who shares your room gave her boyfriend a haircut in the BATHROOM AND BEDROOM. And left the mess there while she goes home for the weekend. You wonder if it?s only the hairs on his head that were cut? or are there OTHER hairs? You scream again. 9. You come home in the middle of the night your roommate threw a party. The party thrower ditched her party, and is sleeping soundly in her bedroom with her boyfriend while two of her friends are making themselves comfortable in your room. One is lying on your bed and barfing on the side. 10. Your roommate signs everyone into a binding 12 months lease (when you wanted 9 months) because she can?t read the damn fine print. She?s a business major. Now I'm through having friends or randoms live with me. I'm living with my sister for now. What?s great about having my sister as a roommate? My parents allow me to hit her. But I don?t think that would be necessary. =D
19. That is crazy. I'm thinking they were probably at each other's throats for a long time, and instead of moving out or getting new roomies, killed each other instead.. Roomates. Ugh. Your link isn't working for me, by the way.
20. I loved watching Tiny Toons when I was in elementary school. My favorite episodes were the ones where they mocked MTV. I have no idea what Aramik is. Was this shown in the US? Edit: Wait a minute. I just realized, he was responding to Aramik, the screen name, not as a cartoon example. My bad.
21. I like it. Gets me thinking about trying a more crisp realistic style for my next poster.
22. I remember watching the news one morning and two poor kids were on tv talking about their experiences in the recent colorado shooting. I felt bad for those kiddies, and was a little moved listening to one of them talk about how he wanted to stay and protect the girls that were being held hostage. Then a few days later, I find out this kid lied. You can read more about it here: http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2006/09/29/national/main2051733.shtml I'm wondering what in the world would cause you to go on national television and lie about something like that! Some could say that he was caught up in the moment, wanted to be a hero so bad he deluded himself. Or perhaps he was ambushed by the media and this caused him to embellish the story. Either way, I think it's wrong, and I don't feel sorry for his lying to be exposed. What do you think about this kid? What disturbs me is that there are a lot of people out there that lie. Bogus lies about anything... Or people who make tiny white lies-- the problem is that they lie all the time. Do you know these types of people? Any of them your friends? I used to be close to this friend, and there was a time when I spent a great deal of time around her. Then I realized that she often embellished stories to make herself seem cooler. Sometimes she would reverse roles in her storyies so that she was the "hero." This became quite evident to me when a group of us were recalling an event, and her story of how nobel she was in that situation was all wrong. We had proof of her being on camera for doing something different than her story, yet she kept denying the truth altogether! That really disturbs me. Some people have such strong and delusional egos. It's like some sort of self defense mechanism based on delusions of grandeur. I think it's mostly harmless, but I just can't be close someone like this because I simply don't trust them. Do you know these types of people? Are you one? =P hehe. What do you think of people who embellish their stories? Harmless? Harmful? Tolerable? Annoying? --Definately.
23. Hm. I've been to the website, and I've clicked on every link, but I only see short clips, previews, random stuff. I'm not sure where these full episodes are.
24. I remember The Eye was a Hong Kong movie that partly took place in Thailand. It was quite a good movie. Good plot, storyline, and all. Even made more sense than most of the popular Japanese horror movies. More thrilling than creepy, but definately scared me. I remember the director got the idea for this movie when he read in an article a blind woman committed suicide after getting surgery and gaining eyesight. Ringu. I watched this a long time ago, and I remember I built up so much suspense for it. I don't think it was even the movie that scared me so much as my own mentality going to watch it. Ofcourse I was freaked out for 2 weeks! The American version barely phased me, though. Probably because I spent all my anticipation for the Japanese version. Now the Grudge, American or not, it was scary.
25. I'm just shocked that the media didn't cover it more! I saw like a 15 second brief on the situation when I came home today around 4, and didn't hear about what was going on again until some time around 9 for like another 15 seconds! What the hell! I can't believe something this serious could be reported about in such a light manner! Poor kids.
