Keyblade Welder
People don't realize that the art of drawing comes from practicing and the love for it. Just because you don't draw like a well-known manga artist doesn't mean you literally suck...
GTK
People tend to think you should just crank out nice art too ^^; I mean, hey, this takes -effort-
Yeah, seriously, some people look at art and not realize that it took time and effort to make. I notice that a lot of people have a narrow-minded way of looking at art. What I think is really annoying is when you make fanart, and they expect you to basically copy the manga artists' style. That's just copying. Where's the creativity in that? =] Thanks for those encouraging responses. I won't let some people get to me, I don't mind criticism, but I do mind being disrespected.
WOW! this really sucks! burn your portfolio, nobody needs to see this crap. Oh and his nose is fat.
So that was the first mean comment I've ever received on my fanart. lol. :animesigh I've always been a pencil art kind of person. The fanart I submitted was the first one I ever did that I really messed around with real paint and photoshop... and I'm not that great with photoshop... and I admit it looks like I made it while being high. I didn't want to ignore it, so I decided to pm that person with a polite message that I acknowledge this fanart isn't all that great, but I'd appreciate constructive criticism. Although I'm kind of expecting them to write back and tell me to go to hell, hehehe. It amazes me when I go look at someone's art or cosplay, and I see a comment like this. After seeing that, I'll click on the commentor's screen name to see what kind of work they've submitted-- and it's usually... nothing. I usually get the impression that the people who write awful comments usually can't make anything worth ****. Though they could be some pro or whatever for all I care, but I think they should at least give the person who's showing their art some props for the work they put in, and be constructive with their criticism in order to help the other person improve. So, tell me, has anyone ever told you your art sucks? How do you respond? Do YOU tell people their work sucks?

5 Things That Make Music Worth Listening To For You
visualkei replied to 2010DigitalBoy's topic in Noosphere
Tical Blue:
I dunno if anyone else has it, but I can memorize a song after hearing it only once or twice.
That is cool. Dude, I can't even memorize my favorite songs. I think I have a problem. Music is so great, here's my little list: 1. Variety - there's so much diversity in music, makes it interesting 2. Dance - music makes dance so much easier 3. Comfort 4. Lyrics - some lyrics are damm poetic 5. Mood - it just sets the ambiance Have you guys ever seen any artwork by Kandinsky? A lot of his work is supposed to cause you to think of music (mainly intense classical music). I think his darker paintings does pull off that effect. -
You know what anime has a lot of life lessons in it? GTO, yes, Great Teacher Onizuka. Not just the anime, but the live action television series as well. It's freakin hilarious in every scene, but in the end of each episode/story, there's a life lesson, especially for kids going through junior high, high school, puberty. All that **** that you make a big deal of, popularity, friends that don't matter, hate, pride, regrets, resentment, money, a lot of those things don't matter. Even the ones that you think are really personal. If you'll just let it go, and look at the big picture in life, you can be a lot happier. The anime shows you how some things in life are made overly complicated when it's actually simplistic if you look at life obstacles in a different light. Anywayz, it's a good anime and tv series, it's fun, and I couldn''t stop laughing when I watched it.

W-inds. Ah, yes, I remember I thought this band was so cute when I was in high school many moons ago. My sister and I even bought 2 of their albums, and all their songs are pretty good. They're all upbeat and makes you feel positive. I think the only reason why I can stand their pop songs is because they're not singing in English, something about pop songs in a language you can understand, cheesy... And some of their songs that have English verses, are quite ungrammatical. They have an interesting voice, sqeaky and scratchy, and pubescent. Haha. As far as their dancing, well, it's been a long time since I've watched them, so I can only remember their dancing to be alright. Like any other Jpop or Kpop band. Though it's been a while since I've been into the J-music scene, I still pop in a W-inds cd when I'm in the mood.

Sounds like wrestling has made you suffered a lot, and your mother, too. I know you understand why your mother doesn't want you to wrestle. You also wrote most of your post on all the suffering you've had to endure in wrestling. But it also sounds like you don't mind the sacrifices you've made. If you want to keep playing this sport, you should already know what you're risking, and going against your mother. Is it possible to continue the sport without her to back you up mentally and financially? Like Soijiro47 said, If you're a casual wrestler, just let it go. If you want to wrestle for fun, I think you can find a way to do it without agitating your mom. If it's the andrenaline rush you like, I think there are other sports you can check out. But if you're hardcore living, breathing, and dreaming wrestling, and willing to give up more for it, then do what you gotta do.

GTK I like your style. The Silent Hill one looks like something from a manga. I like how you didn't detail the body, and just made it one black shape. Your oekaki is cute, too. Haha, I was just thinking today about asking any of you if you've drawn live nudes before. =P I don't really have anything anime-like that resembles me right now, except this chibi I made of myself from a school collage over a year ago:
When I was young, I had a variety of dreams. Here are the ones that first come to mind... 1 - I wanted to be in the Bible. Yes, the Bible - right after Revelations. So for the longest time, I tried to be as good as I could so that someone could write the "Marta" book and put it in the Bible. I was sure it would happen, too.
Wow, that is funny. And a big dream, too. ;] The very first thing I can remember wanting to be is a scientist when I was about 6 or 7. Just a general inventive scientist like the wacky ones I saw on tv. Then I wanted to be a news reporter. As I got into junior high school I wanted to be an International Business major because, well, I wanted to be rich and fancy. In high school I was in a national Business club competition (can you believe it?), which I had fun in, but also made me doubt Business. I stil held onto this goal all the way up into college where everything took a 180. Unlike my previous goals, I realized I didn't want to be anything "glamorous." I changed, and I believe, matured some. I tried out many different majors, and I did a lot of reflecting over this time as to what has made me the way I am, and the kind of job that I can find interesting and meaningful. So I am going to become what I thought I'll never be; I ended up working towards a teaching degree. I want to be a English Second Language teacher or a Bilingual teacher where I can work with immigrant children. And, perhaps, one day I can travel abroad and teach English in a foreign school that won't abuse or turn me into a slave. I'd like to know who here had a career goal since they were little, and were able to stick to it and fulfill it. Edit: I'd like to add that since I was 12 I wanted to go to a certain university; and now I am. =D

Well, I think they're pretty good. Sure, the lines aren't smooth, and the figures aren't more realistic or high tech, but it's a cartoon. I like the bottom picture more, just because it looks like they're not trying to imitate anyone else's style. =]
Anyone can be popular, they just got to find the right way in. And just because you're popular doesn't make you slutty, sleezy, stuck-up, conceited, or a jerk. You can be popular for the straight reason that you're nice. Trust me on that. I know from experience.
That's interesting. I expected people to come here and bash about the popular, but not many of you have. In fact, some of you even admit to being popular without sounding cocky. =] Like Dragon Warrior, I also think that there are opportunities to be popular, and you just gotta be able to take them. But, in the end, it's up to your personality. I also think a lot of "normal" cool people are popular. And we don't really think of them as "the popular people" that's often associated with "the stuck up people." They're just so cool that they're too cool to be considered popular. =] You know what I'm sayin?
-
Are you popular? Or do you have friends that are? I grew up and am close to two people who are completely different from each other, and they are popular. Now we are way past the high school stage, in college, we live in a big populated city, and every time I'm with one of them, we'll run into someone they know. Their phones are ringing off the hook, and every time they pick up it's some different person asking where they are, do they have plans later, or inviting them somewhere. My guy cousin is big into cars, and he is popular with the guys, and seems to be a leader among his friends. He knows both guys and girls that work everywhere. He's a laid-back dude who works at Best Buy, goes to car meets, and shoots pool. He's so popular that when he went to visit me in college that's like 300 miles away from our city, and he's sitting in a class with me and 300 other people, he runs into people he knows. He's attractive, but he's overweight now, so the ladies aren't swooning around him like in high school. I also have a distant girl relative who is popular with both guys and girls. She is very cute and has funky hair. It's almost bizarre how people would practically throw themselves at her. She often makes plans to visit me in college so she can escape from her popularity because tons of people are always calling her on the phone and making her obligated to go out. Now I'm not popular. I'm quite a hermit, and I think the only reason why I know some people is because I'm their cousin. lol. And I don't really put my name out there, either. What I find these two have in common is that they are very comfortable talking to people. They can talk and talk and talk to just about anyone about lots of things. They're also good to their friends, don't talk smack about people, and are helpful to other. And I think that's why they're so popular. Why do you think certain people are popular? I know quite a lot of people who are very attractive but aren't popular. I'd like to hear what you think about their personality, and that's beyond "because they're really attractive" or something physical. Also, does TRYING to be popular ever work? From my experience, those who try, often end up looking pathetic.
White is the new Black.
I've got to agree what you're saying since the begining of this thread. I really don't think the ad is trying to be racist, but that seems so because of the sensitive reaction of people in the US. If the two women were switched, would there be so much complaints about racism? Yeah, White is the new Black; I really think this is one of the trends Sony is trying to get in to, and personify it by employing two models with extreme contrasting clothes and skin color. This ad is quite edgy and smart. Two sleek-looking women in contrast, fighting, so it really catches the eye. Shoot, I know nothing about video games and such, but if I saw an ad like that on the street, it'll get my attention. THEN Papa Smurf busts out with the other ads. And here I thought this ad only came with one picture!

i think some of it depends on the age difference of the siblings, and a lot of it really depends on the personalities. when my younger sibling who's about 5 years younger than me was going through the teenage stage 12-17... wow, i wanted to kill her all the time. i think the reason is because she was a teenager at the time whereas i'm already a teenager or stepping out of it, and seeing all the stupid things she does. when we were younger, me in middle school, she in elementary, we've gotten into fights, even physical ones with her. but you know what, she's never really fought back, probably because she knew she was at fault, or b/c she's smaller hahaha. later on as a teen i knew better than to hit her. when i was in college, she caused my parents a lot of grief. there were times when i had to nag and BEG her to think- THINK about her actions, for the sake of my parents blood pressure. and you know what? i've never really pissed my parents off the way she has. so my mom's always telling me i get to hit her if i think it's right or for her own good. lol both siblings being teenagers at once-- eek. but now that she's 18, and i'm 22 we get a long alright. we're even going to live and go to college together come fall. my mom even says that if she doesn't wash the dishes i could hit her. lol. but i won't. =]. though we have a 5 year age difference, we are sometimes mistaken for twins. She annoyed me so much then, but she's quite responsible now, and i've even heard her say she looks up to me. :animeswea my other sibling who's ten years younger than me, well we get along really well. this is because i cared for her since she was a baby. and im a lot older than her, and i get to watch her grow, and our ages don't really cause personality conflicts because i'm an adult. being in the same house, growing up together, and basically sharing everything and space, you will step over each other's "boundaries." you know, sometimes siblings really do make you want to strangle them. hopefully you guys will grow out of it, or your siblings will learn to respect your things.

Heero yuy, that guy is just a jackass, and I think he looks down and disrespects anyone who he thinks he can take on. I mean, he was looking to start a fight with your guy friend who was just being polite, so he was bound to offend anyone with anything he could think of, including the girls. Also, what easier way to pick on someone than their appearance, be it their gender, skin color, disability, etc.? A jackass like him would pick on someone he thinks is weaker to raise his pathetic esteem. As far as some who've commented that women should earn respect instead of expecting it. Well, I think that it's just some highstrung women you're thinking of that expect something for nothing. Most women just want equal opportunities, and to be treated fairly by having the same opportunities as men. I really don't think that's asking for a lot. Blase
And... you do know why some women dress in a skankish manner, yes? It's because they know it's what a majority of men lust after. It's using the guy's hormones to their advantage. Welcome to the bittersweet world of manipulation. Anyway, I blame both genders for this ridiculous behavior. I wish we could all play nice, but apparently that's not possible.
Haha, you're so right. If someone thinks they can have an upperhand at something, they'll use it.

I know what you're trying to say, Retribution, and I don't disagree. Nor am I saying to quit desiring or be absolutely content or if those things are easy. What I was saying was relating more to the title of the thread: Why is it we cannot have what we want most, and hate what it is we already have? Like the examples you've given me, you don't seem to hate what you already have-- yeah you'd like to have a better laptop and etc, but you know you don't need one, you just know life would be easier if you had those things, though. Yeah. And I think that when I was replying to the post, I was thinking of the extremes of desire that cause people to be obsessed. And I just don't think it's fair to compare a physical addiction such as smoking to your computer. Your use of Photoshop is, I assume, an art, a form of expression, and because of this, I think it can be loosely be classified as a need. I mean, not as a need all the way up in the Hierarchy of Needs, but something that gives you something important, Esteem. I also like to make art, drawings, paintings, and I mess around with Photoshop, too, and if that's taken away from me, I'd feel incomplete.
-
I've got to agree with just about everything BKstyles has said. Sometimes when we desire something so much, we delude ourselves. Blase made a point about when we get what we want, we discover it's not all what it's cracked up to be. Haha, so true. Anyways, all this suffering comes from desire. If people would just be content, then they'd be happy. Now I'm not saying desire is bad and be content with the minimum like living in a cardboard box or something, I'm just saying that people keep wanting more and more things, bigger and "better" things, and forget the things that truly matter in life. And really destinguish between what you want and what you need.

Oops sorry, I meant to use the word "spayed." My dog is about 1 human year old. She can still be considered a puppy, I think. How old are dogs when they've entered adulthood, anywayz? Thanks for the hot sauce trick, hehehe. :animesmil
-
I've had my dog for a year, and I'm exhausted. :animesigh The only person that's really interacted with it is my sister who's 12. I've been off in college since we took it in, and it's been a year. The only times I've really interacted with it was when I was home for winter break, and this summer. She's a mut, I don't know what she is mixed with exactly, but she looks very similar to a German Shorthaired but smaller in stature. My dog goes wild when she sees people. Not killer wild, more like it's so excited, it'll jump all over the person. It's like she's still a playful puppy without realizing how big and strong she actually is. There's been some rare cases where we found small dead animals we suspect she's killed. It rips up things in the backyard-- particularly hard plastic/elastic things. She's somehow ripped up every collar and leash we've gotten her. And we've never had her neutered yet. That may be why. What she can do when she's not excited/distracted is sit and shake. So is it too late to get her trained, do some kind of routine or something? I don't have money to spare, so I can't get it trained professionally. Any suggestions?

Actually I kind of like the walls the way it is, and the top left corner has a little gleam to it. I also like her purse by the way. And Rei's shape, well, I think she looks fine flatchested, especially since she's supposed to be a 14 year old asian girl. :animeswea Hehe. Try not to make her look too much like a copy, I think that when you make your own art, you should make it look at least a little different than another person's. I paint as a hobby, too. =]. Whenever I want to paint a person, I always remind myself to not get fixated on making it look exactly like my eye's reality. Or when making a fanart to not copy the original artist. Try to show off your own style. So does your art have to be approved before it's submitted to be auctioned? How big is it? And did you paint it like a pro with an easel, canvas and all? How much do you think it'll go for, or are you willing to sell it for what price/any price? ...Just wondering. =]
-
For a moment there I was confusedby jigglyness' comment that you made it from watercolor, and it doesn't look like watercolor-- but turns out it isn't watercolor! I think that Rei's face looks very convoluded, perhaps it's because her hair is big. I like the vending machine in the picture. Looks realistic. Something about it just resting there on the side, I like. EDIT: Please tell me a little more about this Otaku convention auctioning deal. I've never heard of something like this, and I'm interested.

Well, when I was a kid (probably up to age 12) I thought eggs, the kind you buy in the grocery store, could hatch if you kept it warm. Which I think many of you thought so, too, right? I thought babies came from pooping. When I realized you don't poop out babies, I thought they came from the urethra, so I thought I never want to have babies. Then come age 15 or so I find out women have three openings down there, and where babies really came from. So I will consider having babies, now. But it seems like it'll be easier if we were to poop them out. And another misconception as a kid, adults are super-humans. It's not until I become one that I realize they're so flawed. =P.

Sucks to hear that, man. Well, here's my question, are you afraid or intimidated by him, or just annoyed? I think you can either wait it out, ignore him, he'll get tired of harassing you and go away. Or you can confront that jackass. Confrontation is pretty hard, especially if you're intimidated by the other person. Butterflies, knees get wobbly, horrible stuff like that, hehehe. But if you confront that person, and even if you get the crap beat out of you, you'll probably feel better about yourself later. And that guy's page, some of the lame things on it, makes me want to punch him, too. Hope things start looking up for you.

I've read Roald Dahl's autobiography, Boy, of his childhood quite a few times already. And every time I read it I laugh out loud. In case some of you don't know, he's the author of many famous children's novels such as Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and James and the Giant Peach. Some of my favorite parts in the book is when Dahl and his friends played a trick on a candy shop owner by putting a dead rat in one of her candy jars. Another is when he was in a private school, and he was forced to sit on a toilet and warm it for one of the senior students before they used it. :animesmil I highly recommend this relatively short book if you're in the mood for some light humorous reading. I'd like to read more books that are humorous, and considered quality reading material. Do you have any suggestions, and why? What's so great or funny about the book you could suggest? I'm interested in another book called The Know-It-All, about a man's quest to memorize the whole encyclopedia. Some people on the radio were raving about it, and I was wondering if anyone's read this?
-
I read this manga about two years ago, and I've got to say, as far as action manga goes, this is the best I've read. The storyline is quite interesting. It's complicated so I'll sum it up with a line that'll do it injustice: Basically, an immortal samurai under bounty teams up with a girl to avenge her family's death. Both the good guys and bad guys are likeable, and interchangeable in good and bad roles. The artwork is simply magnificent. Just the book covers alone are a wonder, and the art style is quite unique. The fight scenes make the still pictures look like they're in motion, and the manga is violent. I mean, the artist leaves me in disbelief of all the ways he can draw Killing, torture, and ways to use weapons. I'm sure the artist is into sadomasochism. I'm usually squeamish to these kinds of things, but the artwork is engrossing. Have any of you read this manga? I think it isn't popular. I heard they also made a live action movie out of this, and I've seen a screen capture. I wonder if they'll ever make an anime out of it? I've read up to Volume 16, and wonder if there's still a long way to go or will it end any time soon. If you haven't read this manga, and you like action, I totally recommend Blade of the Immortal. :D

I watched this anime series a few months ago, and just thought about it again when I saw the post about anime that needed continuation. Overall, the anime was pretty good, and unique. Unlike a lot of anime, it was very serious, grim, and not so sympathetic with the characters or focusing on sentimental things. My thing with the Berserk ending was that it was so unpredictable-- basically left you at a cliffhanger. I don't think they'll make anymore episodes, and I think the series ended the way it did to make you go buy the manga and find out what's going to happen next. What do you think? I got to read some of the manga continuing from the end of the t.v. series, and it's pretty shocking. But if any of you have read it, do you think it worth pursuing?
visualkei, I merged your thread with the official Berserk thread. Use the official anime thread whenever you talk about one specific anime. Official threads can be found in the Official Threads Directory. -r2
