But no matter what Metallica album you're looking at, Slayer was the best of the Big Four.
I agree in full.
-
^^^My favorite lyrics from the album at the moment are either: "Son of Odin Thunder God Master of war Asator!" Or: "Sacrifice to Gods of old Bleed them of their lives Fresh blood on our swords Gods of War arise" Haha! Epic stuff.

Bands You Love That None Of Your Friends Have Heard Of
Jakehammaren replied to 2010DigitalBoy's topic in Noosphere
Lately, I've been really into Draconian, My Dying Bride, Swallow the Sun, Shape of Despair, etc. I know that besides Amorphous, I'm probably the only one one the Boards who listens to this stuff, so I thought I'd put my two cents in as far as stuff no-one's heard of. I just love the massive, all-encompassing atmosphere all of these bands pump through your speakers... it's incredible. -
^^^ Aw, come on - every metalhead has his/her guilty pleasures! By the way, I love the dual-guitar doves analogy. Beautiful. Quick - someone argue with me about about how some generic nu-metal/metalcore band is really, really metal so I can pwn you and get my metal cred back!
-
Yeah, the lyrics to that song are definately shameless pot-shots at Ben Moody. But oh well, at least her complaining turned into a decent song. Oh, and Box Hoy, Evanescence is a them, not a her (as in it's a band, not a solo artist).
-
Alright, I'll admit it. This album rocks. I know that's totally not metal of me to say, but it's the downright truth. I was not expecting what this little Arkansas outfit had in store for all of us. This is a huge departure from their major-label debut. Without Ben Moody's pop sensibilities running the show, Evanescence has taken on a much stranger, darker, heavier edge. It's friggin' cool, I might add. I know there's plenty of Evanescence fans here on the 'Boards, so let's hear some feedback!

Amon Amarth's new album, "With Oden On Our Side", is quite possibly their best album yet. It's very focused, very intense, and the melodies have a fierce beauty to them. Songs like "Asator", "Hermod's Ride to Hel", and "Gods of War Arise" just catapult this album to the top ranks of my list. It's incredible for anyone who loves great melodic Metal or Vikings in general (Boo, you might want to avoid this one). What does everyone think?
Considering I listen to more techno in a week than most of you listen to music in a year I stick with di.fm. I did check out Pandora and its quite a little site, and the music recommendations aren't too bad either.[/SIZE']
Aw man, I sure hope I'm as cool as you one day. You must be the coolest person ever because you listen to more music than everyone else. Not only that, but you have telepathic powers that let you know how many songs anybody listens to on any given day. Sweet! You listen to more music in a week than I listen to in a year... so if I listen to at least 4 hours of music a day, that means you listen to at least 1,456 hours of techno a week. Wow! Your music listening skills defy the very laws of the phsyics! Astounding!
Example, near the beginning, it sounds as if you have phlegm or something in your throat, because it gives off a wierd sound. =]
That phlemy sound is the production getting scratchy. As for the guitar being louder than the vocals - that's probably just something you're not used to, Mr. Maul. You said you don't really listen to Viking Metal (maybe you don't listen to Metal at all, I don't know), but the idea behind it is that instead of taking the front seat as vocals do in pop music, here they're inteded to act as another instrument. We want the vocals to sort of mesh with everything else. Of course, our EQing is far from perfect, but to be quite frank, I think our production and EQ sounds a hell of a lot better than a lot of unsigned/underground bands out there (not to toot our own horn, but hey...). Either way, it's nice to hear positive feedback. Oh, and we're re-recording Fimbulwinter with the new deeper growl as opposed to the black-metal type one in the original (crappy) version. I'll also be doing some clean vocals on it as well, so be sure to check back every once in a while to see if we've posted this new version.
-
I do all the vocals. On some future songs, I'll be doing guitar as well, but on that particular one, the guitar and drumgraming are all Jeff. There are some moments where I didn't think my clean vocals were too good, but I was VERY please with the chant at the end. Well thanks a lot for your kind words! We're pretty psyched about the direction our music is going. It's an incredible compliment to hear that you'd actually spend money to obtain our tunes. We will hopefully have an EP out within the year, so keep your eyes and ears peeled!
-
I'm doing a bit of shameless promotion here, but hey - how else are you supposed to get this kind of stuff out there? The band I'm in (doing vocals), called Edda (named after the Poetic Eddas - it's a Norse thing, not the girl's name), has a new song out called "As Rivers Freeze", and it blows the last song we did completely and totally out of the water. I was hoping maybe a few of you 'Boardheads out there might mosey on over to our Myspace and give it a listen... we're pretty proud of this one. Its going in a good direction. There are growly vocals at the beginning, but for those of you who can't stand "extreme" vocals, give it a chance, because there's plenty of actual singing in the tune as well. Oh, and be sure to check out the 50 seconds or so... it's the coolest part of the song :animesmil You can find us at www.myspace.com/vikingedda. Hope you enjoy!

^^^ Nope, I think you pretty much covered everything (although I don't think I'd consider Psyopus death metal, but I don't really care).
http://www.last.fm/user/RiflesAtRecess/ Yep. Check it out if you like looking at bands with funny names that you've never heard of. :D My music taste is amazing, unlike Boo's. Oh, and I'm adding you, Marsh, why not. ^^
Pfft! I'll out-funnyu-name-band you any day, my friend! I checked out the site, and the genre-loving Metalhead inside me just about had an aneurysm looking which bands were listed under "Metal": we had Korn, Slipknot, Rob Zombie, Static-X, and System of a down all classified as Metal. Ew. Gross. No. Wrong. Oh, and friggin' Crossbreed was under Viking Folk Black Metal. That's like calling looking at a bowl of broccoli and saying "Look! A traffic light dual-wielding machine guns!" In other words, it's just about as WTF NO KTHXBYE as you can get.

I can't get into Breaking Benjamin for two reasons. First off, THEY DON'T EVEN WRITE THEIR OWN SONGS. Secondly, they sound like every other "edgier" pop rock band out there. While Saturate was their most interesting album, it still lacks anything interesting or new. Yawn.
-
Maybe if Cliff B was still alive things would have been different for them.
Amen. Oh, and S&M is probably the coolest Metallica album, but I wasn't counting it seeing as it's really just a collection of their stuff with symphonic backing. It's not a good representation of Metallica, seeing as they're not a symphonic band to begin with.
-
Nutallica? Oh, I mean Metallica... they lost it with the Black Album, and it only went downhill from there. Kill 'Em All, Ride the Lightning, Master of Puppets, and ...And Justice For All were all great thrash, but then the Black Album hit and everything just sorta went wrong. Oh well.
-
Ah, you're the Seperatist that had everybody up in arms in the Lounge, aren't you? Hmm... just keep vikings out of it. I can't STAND it when Seperatists and Neo-Nazis (yes, I know they're not the same) use holy Asatru symbology and ancient Norse imagery in their propaganda. That's not what the Norse culture is about. But anyway, if you should check out Lumsk. It's similar, only they use electric guitars as well. Trolltind is a good song to start with.

It looks like you listen to: TRUE F***ING METAL.
-
Definately! I love them. But of course I know of them - their logo has friggin' Jormungand on it. Gotta love Norse mythology!

Generally, I write lyrics before the song is written so I have a pool of lyrics to choose from when we have a new song. For example, we have a new song ready, and I had 3 or 4 sets of lyrics to choose from because I had already written a handful. I simply picked the one that fit the rhythm and atmosphere of the song the best. That's just how I do it. Most actually prefer to write the lyrics after the song is done, but I find that stifles what I can do with the words.
-
Well, write about something you're passionate about. Also, decide if you want a lyrical theme. For example - I play in a Viking Metal band, and I'm really into the whole Norse/Pagan thing, so our lyrics are generally about winter, great battles, the Gods, etc. Click here and click on "lyrics" next to the song Fimbulwinter for an example of my lyrics. Maybe they'll inspire you  Actually, these are pretty emotional lyrics as far as our stuff goes. (And pay no attention to the lameness of my vocals on that song... I was sick that day, but we had set a deadline for ourselves and I was determined to meet it) Since you're in an "insert something here"-core band, you'll probably want emotionally charged lyrics, mostly about misfortune/women. If there's something in your life that's really bothering you, pick up a pen and start jotting down metaphors. Or, since you've got Hardcore influence, you could do the whole political thing. It's really your call. Lyrics have to be from the heart, especially in the "---"core scene, where lyrics are payed close attention to.
Does the green tea need to be hot? Also, I'm curious about a mic technique I saw. I often see singers using two microphones, and I'm curious if anyone can explain why. [/SIZE']
It's just for show. There's no good purpose for having two, unless you want feedback or something.
-
It should not hurt very much, if at all. If it does, you're straining too hard. You just need to find a comfortable technique. Try practicing using different parts of your throat until you find a spot where pushing the air through doesn't feel like it's shredding your vocal chords.
