So I finally got my hands on Tales of the Abyss (Okami's coming in the mail next.), and I'm definately enjoying it a lot more than my little experience with Tales of Symphonia. The chibi look threw everything off for me. In any case, I'm only about an hour into the game (2 if you count the amount of time I spend on levelling up my characters.) I just reached the Cheagle woods area, and speaking of Cheagles, Mieu might annoy me throughtout the course of the game. Him/her making noices everytime I press the square button. Luke is quite annoying as well, and I'd actually be happy if someone put him in his place. Update: Now I'm about 10-12 hours into the game, just met up with Anise, and crossing some border or something. (I needed a passport to get through.) So far, without a doubt my favorite characters are Jade and Guy. Jade's comment towards Luke (battle opener): Dammit, these things are real annoying. "Jade: You should fit right in" won me over. Guys reaction towards women is priceless. [strike]I'm trying to get used to the Field of Fonons thingy. Can you use one specific Arte on a FoF, or would I be switching up?[/strike] Got my answer.

I haven't been into martial arts for years. The last time I was actually in a martial arts class was when I was in middle school. Shotokan or something of that nature. And I dropped it due to time and hate being punished for other folks problems. (I know, I was young back then.) I've gotten my yellow belt, and haven't been back since. I think the building might've even closed down. Before that I was into basic karate. I don't really remember much of it, though. I do want to get back into martial arts though. I'm just not sure which one I'd want to get back into. I've thought about Tae Kwon Do for a while, but I don't think I can keep up with that. Capoeira was another one I've thought about, but like Tae Kwon Do, I'm not certain if I can keep up with it. But then again, spinning on your hands has been something I've always found intriguing. And then there's that Fillipino (sp?) style, I think it's called Kali. I don't know much about it. I just know that it was being used in the Bourne series. I think I also heard that it was a mixture of Jeet Kune Do (Another style that I want to learn) and something that I can't remember. Yeah, I've been think a lot about getting back into martial arts. Problem is, is finding places that teaches these styles.
I really don't see why he's so annoying. He's just a very serious young man. He hasn't done anything particularly obnoxious during the series. Do I detect jealousy much? Why would it be unrealistic for him to be more powerful than Ichigo anyway? He's been a Shinigami for hundreds of years; personally I'd be more disappointed i Ichigo were to ace absolutely everyone on the first go, much like some other God-Modding manga characters we could care to mention.
Personally, I have nothing against Hitsugaya, and I like his character type. Cold towards most, and observant of what goes on. While he hasn't done much to be obnoxious, he also hasn't done much to warrant such praise, but to each their own. Hitsugaya being more powerful than Ichigo. I think where Gavin was going with that is that no matter who you see Hitsugaya squaring off against, he's always being thrashed so easily, and Ichigo holding his own against the best of them. (somewhat) At the moment, though, (re-reading chapters to get refreshed) I'm not going to judge anything. The way Kubo and power rankings are, it'd be a little crazy to judge anything. I just don't like Hitsugaya's chances at the moment.
-
Haha. Err... even though I'm against Barragan being the #1 espada, I am leaning towards him being #1, especially if he's going to be squaring off against old man Yama. I like Matsumoto's chances against the fraccions over Hitsugaya's chances against Halibel. I'm still a little giddy seeing Hisagi and Kira fight though. (Especially Hisagai) I want to see his fight animated. (Then again, I'd probably be disappointed.)

I thought Forbidden Kingdom was pretty good. Probably the better of the martial arts movies that did well with the wires/strings. Every since The Protector I don't care for movies dealing with wires. Jet Li's role as the monkey king. I didn't care much for his role as the monkey king, but I don't think it was all that bad either. However, I would've preferred it if Jackie Chan was the monkey king. His personality fits the role a lot more. Jet Li should've been the main villain.

Friday the 13th for the NES. I believe I was between 8-9 when I played this game. Seeing a giant head flying around with a head full of snakes don't do you any justice, and what's worse is that your weapon of choice was paper airplanes. Now that I actually think about it, it's more comedy than scary. What is paper airplanes going to do against a friggin head full of snakes besides give them paper cuts?
-
Good to be back, Gavin. Raiyuu, Haineko = Matsumoto. I've been told that Haineko was suppose to be similar to Senbonzakura. Sougyo no Kotowari = Ukitake Katen Kyokotsu = Shunsui (or is that suppose to be the other way around...) Gegetsuburi = Maeda (I think) Gonryuumaru = Vice Captain #1 I don't know, thought I'd take a stab at it without cheating, lol. Gavin beat me to it I'd be real upset if Hitsugaya actually defeated Halibel. And while all of this is going on, where is Yami and Wonderweis(sp?)?

I don't have anything to play at the moment, but the last games I ended up playing were Phoenix Wright: Justice for All and Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney (is that right?). They're pretty decent games, however, once beaten, both don't seem like they're worth playing again. PW: JFA - I like this one over AJ, but I found it to be annoying as well. Hard for me to get into majority of the characters, and a lot of them were annoying. There were a couple of characters that I actually liked though. Von Karma and I forgot his name, but he has gray hair. It also had it's funny moments too, mainly with Von Karma and her whip. AA: AJ - This one was far more annoying than JFA. Even Phoenix became one of the annoying characters. Overall, though, I do like the outcome of both games, even with some of the annoying bits. I gotta check out some of the other games. Edit: I have Tales of the Abyss coming in the mail. Finally able to get my hands on the money to buy this game. I'm curious about Tales of Legendia as well as the other Tales game for the 360. In the mean time, though, I should be content with TotA.

I, like James am having trouble trying to remember the games I considered to be bad. The only bad game that comes to mind at the moment is Shadow the Hedgehog. I found myself battling the camera moreso than the enemies on-screen. I also didn't like the idea of giving Shadow a vehicle to ride around in, and speaking of the vehicles, I had a tougher time trying to move around in them because Shadow kept doing donuts and getting hit in the process. That's all I can think of at the moment.

A whole month and some change... Feels like it's been forever, but I'm back. (Home and everything... I won't get into the details about that.) I'm caught up and whatnot, and I like everything that I've seen. Even Kira's been turned into a favorite for me. I am surprised that there haven't been a single glimpse of Ichigo and Ulquiorra. Hisagi's zanpakuto is, um, interesting.

I'm sort of in the same predicament. Making my big move from Detroit to Phoenix. (Wednesday!) And I'm fairly quiet around new people, but then again I choose to be. Sometimes it's because I can be shy, but majority of the times it takes a little bit for me to open up to people I just met. And moving to a new state that I know nothing about outside of word of mouth was giving me the jitterbugs a little. (Now it's just the frickin airplane that's gettin at me.)But I felt better when my advisor (as well as the housing department) said that everyone is practically in the same situation. (I think someone here said it as well.) A lot of people coming from all over the states and whatnot. But then again I'm also going into a field where teamwork is involved so I have no choice :) I agree with everyone else though. Give it some time, and who knows, people may come to you instead you having to go to them.
"If there were a feudal-era, fantasy version of Section 9..."
I admit that I was real skeptical (still skeptical) because I don't know what the series is like. (No comparisons. No detailed descriptions...) ANN don't really have a decent description of the series, and then no one really talks about the series. But that right there might've just sealed the deal with me. I did hear that it don't have that much action. :( So would it be fair to say that from an action standpoint that it's similar to Peace Maker? (Not that much action but whatever action there is, it's good.)
-
That's refreshing to hear. The 20GB is backwards compatible right? Not that there's too many games I want to try out again, but there are a few.
-
Alright 360 owners. Have a few questions since I may consider getting one in Phoenix. (Either a Xbox 360 or a lap top...) What's the difference between 20GB and a 60GB? And then I'm seeing one version that says Arcade bundle and another one that says Elite System console. Wasn't there another version? I'm not interest in Xbox Live so which one would be the one for me? (me being cheap and whatnot...)

No comments about that other chapter. I found this chapter (413 I think... Seems like it's been ages since the last release) interesting. And I'm still of the opinon that Sasuke's gotten weaker since losing the curse mark. Sort of makes me wonder why Suigetsu haven't ditched the group yet. Gotta make sure I read this right. A person in control of there beast (I can't think of the names for nothing) is even stronger than a person who can't control it? It makes sense, but Kishi is making it sound like Naruto is going to go through more training after this frog stuff. Anyway, I see some people being very happy about Sasuke getting whooped.

I haven't even read the manga, and I'm not really sure if I'll ever get around to it, but I don't think the anime is as bad as everyone that compares it to the manga makes it out to be. (Perhaps a little overhyped here and there.) As far as the sequel goes... I still haven't seen the movie yet. I hear Mustang goes through some sort of phase that'll make me dislike him. (Mopiness type phase) I also hope Ed and Al will be more tolerable this time around. Anyway, I'm not excited about it, but it does give me something to look forward to watching. I've been in sort of a slump with anime lately. (Nothing on tv keeping me interested.)

I'm in agreement with Boo. Even though I have a lot of time on my hands (for now), I can't play the same games over and over like that. I get bored fairly quickly, and I have sort of a short attention span. But if we're going by what Korey said, then I can say that I know Goldeneye007 (N64) fairly well. Not to the point to where I can beat it in my sleep, but I know a little bit of this and that. Having the Invisible Mode turned on helps know the already easy patrol routes. I also know Final Fantasy 8 pretty well, battle wise, that is. Things like where to go/ what to do next I have to read a walkthrough.
I can play Tekken 5 in my sleep, because the computer is just downright idiotic sometimes. I'll throw a move from max distance the computer will still run right into it. Then again, I can beat the CPU pretty handily in any fighter because I exploit the AI. Force it to react a certain way and punish the CPU for not having multiple ways of handling situations. Seriously, if I hang just oustide of jump range and EVERY cpu opponent is gonna try a jump in, it makes for some very boring matches.
I didn't care much for Tekken 5, but I found the boss for it to be the complete opposite. If I recall, he kills your block or can damage you through your blocks. And then he has moves that can take you from full health to less than 1/3 in on hit. But then again I was never all that great in the Tekken games and, the only character(s) I was ever good with was Hworang (sp?), Eddie and Jin. (before he was dumbed down.)
-
I did find out how to use some of the gold characters earlier, and I was intending to edit my post. I played as Gold Millia.. (I don't think I'm gonna go through survival mode anymore lol.) Yes, Korey, I have the plain X2. [strike]Question about the time release. Turns out that it did work, but afterwards I ended up turning it off before I found out that I can get Justice the same way. So would I have to wait so many hours again?[/strike] Edit: Nevermind. Justice, Robo Ky and Cliff (?) has been unlocked... ?_? Guess it don't matter if I turn the game off or not.

Another thing that's been getting at me is the word "catch". Some characters have that in their movelist, and I don't get it. Do I have to catch my opponent in a move or something with that motion?
And by the way, Phenom, it's easy to get around Megalomania without taking any damage whatsoever. You just have to pay attention to which one she's gonna do. For slope version, just hug the corner and let the orbs whiz on by. For sine-wave version, duck where the arch is and move forward with it as the animation continues. For spread version (which is the one most people panic over), just run up on her and jump over the initial burst (it's done easiest with Chipp, for some odd reason. Teleport and triple jump help). As far as her other combos go, just remember that Stroke the Big Tree is a low hit and block accordingly. It's her main combo opener and one that gets a lot of people since it doesn't seem like a lot hit at all.
I've worked my way around that. And I haven't really seen her do those cheap shots in the story mode for some reason. It's Dizzy's story that's really frustrating, because if you lose, you can't redo it (going for the 2nd ending btw), and you have to start over. Nor does she have an Instant Kill. And then I-No's health keeps on recovering.
And no, the all black coloring is Shadow Millia. Gold characters are all gold. So you have that to look forward to. *thumbs up*
Wait. So what's SP characters? How many different type versions of characters are in this game? (EX, SP, Shadow, Gold...) Can you play as Gold characters? I'm trying this time release thing that don't seem to be working. Gamefaqs not exactly the best thing at the moment for this game.
What they mean by less or more than 180 seconds is the total combined time in the fights that you've had up to that point (say, if you've had three matches before getting to that one, you'll have to have won them all in a combined total of 180 seconds or less/more).
I see. I figured it out a little while ago, but managing to do it is a lot harder than it seems for some reason. I keep trying to go for something like 90+90, but some freakishly type accident keep on happening. (they keep spamming some annoying move or block continuously) Maybe I should try 90+45+45ish...
I've seen Sol players take people out in less than 15 seconds after initiating a Dragon Install. Good times.
Sounds intriguing. I've read a couple of faqs that were trying to explain how combos would work, but some of the terms that they mention is too complicated to even understand. And then some of the stuff like Roman Cancel/False Roman Cancel takes a bit to sink into my brain to actually remember I can do those.. (Even though I don't know how to pull of a FRC)
She's one of the faster characters in the game (Gold Millia's speed is legendary among fighting gamers), but she's a combo demon once you get used to it.
Tell me about it. (My left thumb is tired.) She's pissing me off in survival mode. Gold version I mean. (The shadowy look is gold, right?) She blocks like crazy and kills my defense with constant speed making me forget to block and trying to pull off an instant kill against her is a task in itself. Gold May (and Testament) can get stupid, too, but I've beaten her a couple of times.
(Oh, by the way, some of the endings are a bit animated. You just have to find them. :3)
Does that mean I have to play as characters I don't want to play as? lol. I have all 3 of Ky, Slayer, Milla, and Chipp's endings. Getting Dizzy's 2nd ending is just plain stupid. I may have a better idea on how to beat I-no now that I've sort of gotten used to how the blocking is done. (Kept getting hit while I was crouching and guarding, as well as getting hit in air while blocking) One thing I haven't did yet was an instant block?

Thought I'd revive this thread seeing how I just got this in the mail yesterday. (I'm also waiting on a regular PS2 controller.. This strange clear, big clunky controller just won't do when it comes to fighting games.) In any case, I've tried out majority of the characters and the ones I seem to work best with so far are Sol Badguy and Milla Rage. Chipp, Slayer, and Ky Kisuke, I can do a little bit of this and that, but not as much as Sol and Milla. Do I think it's better than the Street Fighter/Marvel vs series...? Not really, but I do think they're bout even. I suppose in due time, when I can actually link the higher number combos together (Max I've done was about a 10 hit) I'll probably have a different perspective about it. (Oh yeah, and get a 2nd controller lol) The characters are, uh, interesting lol, especially Zappa and Faust. My favorite(s) out the bunch is Sol Badguy though. The "I don't care" attitude will always be the characteristic that strikes out at me the most, and will always be a favorite. I thought Baiken would be a favorite for me to play as, but I just can't play as her at all. Do she rely on counters or something? I-no is freakishly scary in arcade mode. She's a pain in story mode when she has the health recovery type crap. Graphics.. Comparing this to Marvel vs Capcom (2D vs 2D), I definately have to give the edge to this one. I won't go as far to say that it looks like an anime like I've read in some reviews, but the 2D sprites do look good. Music. I'm not a fan of Heavy Metal, and I'm not all that fond of the rock genre either. But once I found out that there are no singing, I was able to set that peeve aside, and just enjoy the game. My only gripe with the game is the story and arcade modes... I was under the impression that there was movie-like or video clip endings instead of pictures with words... I guess I set myself up for that one. Going to Youtube and whatnot trying to find out what the fighting is like, and coming across the opening animation heh. Now.. In the story mode, how the flip do they expect you to get some of these endings with some of these win-conditions that don't make any sense? More than 180 secs with no continues... How am I suppose to do that when 99 secs is the max time limit?
-
I didn't really care much for this chapter. There's one thing to throw comedy at random moments, but you cross the line (with me anyway) when the chapter itself is mostly comedy (lame at that, and pointless repeats) and less of anything else. I still don't see Yumichika as an elite Outside of Hisagi and Ikkaku, I really don't care to see these other fights with these fraccions. Manga creators really need to learn how to stop sandbaggin and just get to the nitty gritty, or at the very least, get to the more interesting characters... Shinji inc, Urahara or someone. I'd much rather see a Hitsugaya beating over seeing Yumichika and Kira anyday. Like Chad and Ishida, thye're just boring characters. Poor Hisagi. Possibly a great character out shined by the likes of bad characters (IMO) like Ganju, Hanatarou (can't stand him), Momo, [strike]Rukia[/strike] and even Keigo. We practically know nothing about Hisagi, outside of him being from the 69th district, and is the vice captain of the 9th division. Hopefully he gets more panel time, and we get to see what this guy is made of.

I'm have mixed opinions about this chapter. On one hand I thought the chapter was actually pretty decent. The 8 tails is an interesting character. Although, Kishimoto should've left the rapping alone. On the other hand, it really looks like Kishimoto is regretting killing off Itachi. It looks as if he's trying to turn Sasuke into another Itachi, and he's not doing so good in the process. Since Sasuke no longer has the curse mark, I wonder if that made him weaker? I don't recall him ever needing to make hand signs for the chidori since the beginning of the time leap. Instead of dragging this out so much, I think I would've preferred that Pein fight the 8 tails just to get the Sasuke vs Naruto fight over that much quicker.
-
Fair enough. My snide attitude.. My bad. I'll leave that bit out from now on. (Or atleast I'll try.) Now, I don't suppose you're going to give me $280-$400 to jump into the next gen bandwagon then? XD

Silpheedpilot (along with Random.. I'll get to you in a bit), you tell me not to be picky, I'm gonna tell you to read. If you're going by them days where I had a 360, I only borrowed it for a couple of days from a friend, and he's long gone away from here. Even if I did own a 360 or PS3, I don't have intention on getting another Soul Calibur or Tekken game again. Silly? "shrugs"
I only have a PS2 and Gamecube at the moment. (My mom has a DS, but she won't let me buy anything for it, so "shrugs") And I don't think I'll have any of the newer consoles before the year is up so if we can keep those games crossed off for the time being.
Randomuser, welcome. If you're going to suggest games to me, I'm going to need more reasoning than "it's a terrific game". Edit: I do thank y'all for the suggestions no less, though. :)
