I finally caught an episode of Basilisk (The first episode to be exact.). Um... Wow. I'm a little skeptical about it because every one is saying it's like Romeo and Juliet, and romance isn't really my thing. But I think I can put up with it seeing how it's not as long as them other animes that tends to mix action with romance. I was blown away by the animation and fighting. It seems like it's been ages since I've seen an anime that has smooth animation as well as fast paced, intense fighting. I think Gonzo has a hit out on the elderly though. They know how to draw some ugly looking old people.

Anime The anime here in america...is it getting childish?
Magus replied to Humaru's topic in Otaku Central
Watch Fuse. It has some good anime on it.
Not really lol. Unless they have something I'm not aware of? (I don't really consider Tenjho Tenge and Ergo Proxy good. Another conversation for another day lol.)
True that I shouldn't be dissin' on cartoon network, but its like the only station that plays the anime that I will watch, and most of the stuff during the daytime schedule is childish.
And yet again, I agree with Panache.. Go channel surfing for more mature-ish animes. Starz has Desert Punk (I'm repeating myself) and I think they're getting Black Lagoon in March or April. IFC is currently airing Basilisk and WitchBlade. AZN has Saiyuki Reloaded and Last Exile. (I don't watch either, but you may want to check them out.) ENC-Wam is all over the place. -
Concerning Furi Kuri and Bo however-many-it-is: the reason these shows are amazing is that they're not supposed to make any sense at all. I'd be willing to bet that all you people who hate them don't like Monty Python, either. :animesmil
And you would be right, but then again, I've never really cared about most comical stuff. (lately) Never seen Monty Python, but seeing that I'm pretty stubborn when it comes to comedies, so there's a chance I won't give it a chance either. "shrugs"
Oh yeah, and MÄR. A Naruto/Luffy/Goku-personality main character has this utterly pathetic pop-gun of a weapon that, oh wait, magically turns into the BFG 9001. (Which is over nine- thousand!!) This is supposedly due to his amazing imaginative capabilities, but I can't help but wonder why he wasted the first two forms of his ball-and-chain (literally) on a fist and a namby-pamby bubble gun if he could come up with a frikkin' Hyper Beam-shooting thirty-foot gargoyle upper body on a floating diamond.
I also can't stand that show, but like most shows I normally stop watching around the 2nd - 3rd episode. Stories dealing with kids fantasy have never appealed to me, and to make matters worst, they got the VA for Shinji (NGE).. Who I can't stand at all.
They did horrifically maim OP. The reason it's still airing is because after they destroyed, shattered and violated it, they threw it away for not making them any money. After that, it was taken to rehab FUNimation, and now it's better for the most part (Seriously, anyone who has a problem with One Piece because of the previous dub, do yourself a favor. Watch it one more time next chance you get. If you don't like it, I won't pursue it further.)
Tried, and still didn't like it. I really don't see what's so "original" about it. Is it the artwork or something? Btw, that artwork is pretty ugly. But maybe it's just a preference thing for me. I'm not into the whole goofy look. Edit: It's probably not as bad as I always make it out to be, it's just that I can't get into it. (Thought I'd clear that up a bit.) I haven't been watching too much of anything lately to consider them bad animes. (Mainly because I avoid shows when I know I won't like them. With the main ones being everything you hear people talking about with some type of kiddy looking characters) There are some shows on demand that I've been thinking about checking out, but half the time I just don't bother with them since I've been mainly craving action (gunfights and sword fights... martial arts, blah blah)

All the music in this thread, I guess nobody watches TV anymore lol. Anyway, I'm gonna go with movies and shows that I've seen in 07. I called myself waiting to see Bourne Ultimatum before posting this thread, but Blockbusters is playing games with these long waits. Anyways Transformers - I've only seen a couple of minutes of the original Transformers, so I don't know if they nailed it or not. But everything in it was really good. Bumblebee boosted my interest in Camaro's. #1 movie of 2007? Perhaps, but I'll wait till I see BU before placing judgment. Spider-Man 3 - It's good, but it's not nearly as good as the second. I didn't really care for them
teamming up Sandman and Venom
, but in the end it turned out decent. Some things should've just been left out of the movie altogether. Mainly speaking about
Tobi trying to dance.
Law & Order: Special Victims Unit - Between this and 24, I don't know which one I'd rank as best show... Elliot and Fin are some funny characters lol. 24 - I missed the last episode of the last season, but if I recall, the whole season itself was full of surprises. The biggest one being
Jack killing Curtis
. There are some newer shows I've been checking out lately (Numb3rs, NCIS), but I need to catch those from the beginning because those look like some interesting shows.
I'm also trying to finish Naruto, (yes I know... who hasn't?) in full. I've never finished all of it, but I have seen the ending, and parts of Shippuden. Other than that, I havn't seen every episode or read every chapter from the end of the Chuunin exam, so I'm planning on finishing that soon.
I just gave up on Naruto (just the anime lol) last night. Pacing (flashback) issues. I'd rather stick with the old stuff... (DBZ, RK and YYH) But I'm gonna stick with the manga. Goodluck though. I watched the first episode of WitchBlade Friday night on IFC. It didn't really give me any reasons to continue with the series. Going by first episode alone all it has going for it is fanservice. (Probably on the level of Tenjho Tenge's manga...
minus the sex
) And I'm not into the whole fanservice thing. Sure I like women with big breast (and it's really hard to not notice them, with or without the transformation.) and all, but I prefer the real deal. Anyways, I haven't seen much of the movie/series (?), but I thought there was suppose to be more action than what I saw. (And no robots... that thing looked like a robot.) If anything, you get character development, (although, I don't even know the lady's name) transformation/fanservice, somewhat of a confrontation, and done... My response to it in the end was "ok".... (not impressed.) This series looks like it's geared for those into fanservice. I'm gonna check out the second episode next week, but I highly doubt that I'm gonna stick with this. You would think the first episode of most animes would leave you wanting more... I also looked at a bit of Ergo Proxy, but I don't know if I want to continue with this one either. It was pretty boring.

I just got done watching Karas: The Prophecy (came on ENC-ACT), and, well, I don't understand it at all. I'm assuming this is an OVA(OAV?) because of the way it went off, unless it just has one of those endings with a crappy cliffhanger? It's a good thing I wasn't looking at this for the story because I didn't know what was going on at all. The characters, I don't really know them. However, all that set aside, I think this has the best opening sequence out of all the animes I've seen so far. The fighting is top notch. Fast paced and barely able to see whose winning.... That's my type of fighting. ;) The guy, Karas(?) reminds me of Guyver (The movie. Haven't seen the anime). It's a really interesting movie, show, OVA(?) that took me off guard because I was just looking at it out of curiousity. Edit: Whose behind the animation?

*Testing to see what color I want* Anyways, thought I'd give an update, and another opinion about the game. I'm currently at some Icy place, or rather, I have any icy map =). My current party is Chrono - 32, Marle - 30, Ayla - 30 (each one might be up 1 level... I just forgot.) I've seen some triple tech's, and more dual tech's. All of them looks good, but I think my favorite so far is the Falcon Toss/Throw, forgot the name =p. I fault Magus (obviously), and Dark Matter (?) is a scary attack =). It's official, I've fallen for this game even though I still haven't paid much attention to the storyline =D. I know it's against some folks rule, but I wouldn't mind seeing a remake (perhaps on the PS2). Seeing how I like graphics, I would like to see some of these techs in 3D. Edit: Oh yeah
Definitely play Dragon Quest VIII, I have yet to finish it since I'm playing something else at the moment, but it's fantastic. It will be easier to simply show you this instead of typing up all the reasons why you should play this game:
I've had my eyes set on DQVIII since I've read Semjaza's post last week. EDIT 2: So I just beat Chrono Trigger yesterday. I would've beaten it sooner, but I had to take a break from it for a little bit. Didn't want to tire myself out on it. It's a lot shorter than I expected, as well as easy. Then again, I did spend a lot of time leveling up. I got the ending
with Crono and Marle getting married and Crono's cat and mom jumping into the time gate thing.
As I said, it was easy, although one boss kept getting on my nerves. That mother brain (I think.) Located in 2300 A.D. (Robo's sidequest) That's because I was trying to charm... something (can't remember) from them monitors. I know she was increasing her attacks, or was she lowering my defenses? And then I don't know if she was lowering my attacks or increasing her defenses. Either way, I wasn't doing much damage. (Until I decided to restart the fight and skip the charming altogether.) One thing I hated, though, was once I acquired Magus, people were still talking as if he wasn't there. I would've preferred some frightening/threatening response, but I didn't get anything. I like majority of the techs with Luminare and Dark Matter being my favorites (Triple Kick is also nice.), although I found 2 of them to be really dumb. Frog's giant frog, and Ayla's dino tail. I like all the characters. Even though I only used Crono, Magus, Marle and Ayla over everyone else. I may attempt Chrono Cross again some day, but at the moment, I'm not really interested in it. (That game made me lose interest in RPG's... don't ask.)

Ok, I stopped looking right after I clicked on H2O- Footprints in the Rain thing. Is there anything on that list that doesn't look all.. um. kiddy looking characters? Haruka Naru Toki no Naka de 3- Kurenai n' Tsuki (And that means what?) is probably the only thing I'd have an interest in because of the whole samurai (ninja?) look. Is there anything else on that list that's more samurai-ish, without the kiddy-ish type characters? Or should I not even bother?

Anime Cartoon Network Line-Ups...and anime on television announcements

- 20" Pure Flat Digital TV (Yep, still stuck on the old lol) - A Stephan Marbury shirt (I can't stand the guy himself, but the shirt looks good.) - A Beer Mug with candy in it (??? I don't drink though lol) - A shirt with monkey's on it... (Man... my cousin has it in for me) - 2 Death Note mangas; volume 3 and 4 (can't read them yet. I have to see the episodes first) It's been a little rough this year in terms of money (a bunch of layoffs and cut backs), but I am satisfied with what I have. I needed a tv really bad because it was hard to see the whole picture or read the words (for playing old games). -
While Tobi did say that he was Madara, and all, and it might be true, but I want the mask to come off. With so many secrets being kept, going by word of mouth isn't going to well for me at the moment lol.

Anime The anime here in america...is it getting childish?
Magus replied to Humaru's topic in Otaku Central
Actually, I have to agree with Panache... a little bit, anyway. If you look on the right channels, you can find some animes that're not being edited. I wouldn't think Death Note, Blood+, and whatever else is being shown on Adult Swim was being watered down. (I wouldn't know because I haven't seen the original, and I don't intend to.) Honestly, complaining about animes that're on CN is rather pointless. You should expect majority of what they air to be edited. That's why I go into some of these shows with little expectations. (Except when fans overhype things >_>) Like Panache said, there's always the internet (which I stay away from), and then there's the dvds (which I also stay away from lol.) As for them channels; Starz Edge is airing Desert Punk. I haven't watched it yet, but it's uncut. IFC is suppose to be re-running Basilisk which is also uncut. And then there's Encore and Fuse. (but Fuse still edit... I think) Oh yeah, the AZN channel as well. -
watched A Christmas Story which is the greatest thing the 60s and Xmas ever produced, period.
Believe it or not, I hate that movie lol. I almost went crazy last year because of that marathon. In any case, I'll be going to my church to kick in the new year. This'll be my first time going to our New Year's eve service, and I look forward to it. It cetainly beat sitting around the house listening to people shoot their guns off all night. Last year, I did exactly that too. Online while people were outside shooting. >_>
Someone stuck with a flat tire. A lost crying kid in a store. Someone who is drunk and trying to get into their car and drive home.
Depends on if I'm walking or driving. If I'm walking, more than likely I'd help out, but if I'm driving, I'm in my own little world trying to get from point A to point B. [strike]Kick the child in the mouth to get em to shut up[/strike] I don't know really. The natural thing to do would be to help the child find his/her parents, but grown folks get all iffy about kids... Can't blame them either... All these kidnappings/missing people here in Detroit.. >_> Let my sister tell it, she'd knock that person out. (if it's one of her friends) This is another I don't know situation for me. Because I tend to stay away from drunks, so I don't know. If it's one of my friends or family members I'd drive them home. (But if they end up getting sick in my car, I'm kicking them on the streets.) I'm not really much of a nice guy, but I'm not really all that cold-hearted either. I'm not going to risk my neck to save someone from a burning building, but at the same time I'll try to help out in something like a car crash. It really depends on the situation at hand. When it comes to giving money to the homeless... "shrugs" If I have money, I'll give em something.

I'll go way back with it. Super Mario Bros (series) - Honestly, I haven't finished a single Mario game because there would always be a point to where I just couldn't get past a certain part of the game. I don't remember it too good, but in the 1st SMB, I couldn't get past the 8th world... Whatever it was I couldn't past it worth a lick. Me and platforming games never did click. Sonic (series) - Sonic 2 to be more exact. I would get so far (which probably wasn't far to begin with.) and get stumped on some water level. (Water levels in anything is stupid.) But I really gave up when I was attempting to
play as Super Sonic
(throw some spoilers on it even if it is old lol) because the stupid thing would never work. There are some other old games that I never finished, but I hated them anyway.
-
It's a clash of giant swords. =) I've always found Kisame to be an interesting character that seems to get overlooked. And Suigetsu has been growing on to me lately. While it is expected that the fight will be one-sided, we just don't know anything about Suigetsu, outside of him being able to manipulate (that don't look like it's spelled right) his body. And he's able to take a punch to the face. I guess I'm the only one that's not looking forward to the Tobi and Leaf fight. I just can't stand Naruto.
-
I normally finish most of the games I buy. The games I don't finish are the ones I end up trading in because of a lack of interest. With that being said: Chrono Cross - I don't know what happened here. I've heard a lot of great things about it, and I was anxious to get my hands on it. About 10-20 minutes into the game, and I just turned it off, and shipped it back. But then again, that was the beginning of my lack of interest in rpg's in general. Star Ocean - Till the End of Time - I'm steppin on a few toes here XD. Again, I was losing interest in RPG's. (and the ps2 at this point.) Fayt annoyed the hell out of me. I can't stand playing as naive characters. (A bit shocking because I consider Sora annoying and naive too.) Kingdom Hearts - I hate kids being the leading character. Naive kids, no less. Sora is just as naive as Fayt, but stupid as well. He is more tolerable in Kingdom Hearts 2 though. I may get this one again though, because I want to beat those hidden bosses. Onimusha - Resident Evil type camera/control setup. I hate it, and will never play it or anything like it ever again. Prince of Persia - No doubt, it's a very challenging game, but here's the thing. I hate thinking lol. Not saying it's not a fun game because I'd be lying. I'm a gung-ho type of person. I may give this one another try some time down the line. Final Fantasy X - I never clicked with the game. The main character is annoying, and then his wimpy voice didn't make it any better. The graphics are prettiful, though. Uhh.. I traded this in before my lack of interest in RPG's hit. And then I had games where I just brought them, but never got around to play them (Lack of interest in the ps2 at the time.) and I just got rid of everything.
-
Don't you just hate it when people run their mouth's through a show you're trying to watch? lol In any case, now that I've seen all the episodes (or most of the episodes), although, it feels like I've missed an episode. Because the way one episode went off, Katsu was getting ready to square off against someone he faced near the beginning of the series, but the episode I caught after that, he was already preparing for the attack of the Nobuseri (sp?). Anyways, I can finally give my thoughts about the series as a whole. Get the negatives out of the way first. It's not really an issue, but the artwork is inconsistent. While that don't effect the fighting, it is still noticeable. It's not nearly as inconsistent as, say, Naruto's animation, though. So that's good lol. While I'm on the subject of animation, there are times when they use an animation sequence that was already used in an earlier episode. As far as I can tell, they only did it in the fighting. Again, it's not much of an issue, I just wish they'd stop being so lazy. lol. The fighting is good. It's not as dynamic and intense as Kenshin is, but it's good no less. Bleach should take some notes. Story - I'll skip this for now because I have to rewatch it as a whole. Hmm.. I'll dissect the characters one by one (samurai's only lol), I guess. Kambei - There's not much to say about the guy. Great fighter, and 'm glad they didn't make him as soft as other leading characters in other animes. He can play some great mind games because he had me thrown for a little bit.
Telling another guy that he's in love can throw anybody off their game. And grabbing that other guy's sack....
Kyuzo -
Sucks that he died. By a gun no less >_>
. I would've liked to see that fight between him and Kambei go down at the end, but I guess there's gotta be some thing's that won't satisfy me lol. He is my favorite character. Gorobei (sp?) - I like him. Knows when to be serious, and knows when to kick back and just chill. I know he's a thrill-seeker, but
getting a rush out of stopping an arrow before it goes in your head
is a little too crazy. (What black person do you know will attempt that? We duck and run, we don't catch. XD)
He should never dress up as a woman again.
Heihachi - The rice man. It's kind of hard to not like him. How old was he suppose to be? He looks as young as Katsushiro.
Again, he's another one that should never dress up as a woman. Rikichi look more feminine, but still, he shouldn't attempt to do it again either.
I was actually expecting him to be
one of the samurai's that survived the war. Mainly because of the more skilled samurai's are the ones that ends up getting killed in the end.
Kikuchiyo - A mechanical Kuwabara. (YYH) I couldn't stand him throughout the entire series, but my opinion changed in the last episode.
He went out with a bang, literally.
And well, he earned my respect for it. Shichiroji - The pretty boy with the weird hair.
He was another one I expected to see kick the bucket
because I'm kind of use to sad endings in samurai animes lol. I don't really have much to say about the guy. Katsushiro - For some reason I didn't like this guy at first. Perhaps it was the cowardly look he always had when fighting. I don't know, but I like him now. I wouldn't mind seeing him and Shichiroji square off in a fight. I like how his skills have developed during the course when he
split from the group to go on his own.
I was expecting some type of cheesy "romantic" type of ending for some reason. Mainly because of the build-up between Katsu and Kiara (sp?) But I got something completely different. I don't have anything to say about it though. Overall, the anime is good, and if you're a fan of samurai's and action, you should give it a whirl. 4/5 (But it probably won't go pass #8 on my top favs) Now I just gotta figure out what to watch next. I need more samurai/ninja animes. >_>

Bah, I've been looking for some games to try out (RPG's to be exact) and people kept telling me to buy Suikoden 1, 2, or 3. Reading the reviews at Gamespot and IGN got me interested, but they don't explain what I'm looking to hear about the battle system lol. I've been reading that the battle system is like your average RPG, and whatnot, but I also keep getting (from people in general) that it plays like one of them tactical RPG's. (I hope I'm hearing / reading it wrong) Like Final Fantasy Tactics. Is that true? I really hate that type of gameplay.
-
Hmm... I don't know where I stand with this chapter. I've made it no secret, that I'm no fan of Mayuri, but what's her name..... (man... memory lapse) his vice captain.
If she's really dead, I didn't see that one coming at all.
I mean, with so many other titles like this, it's kind of rare to see someone stay
dead
. But knowing Mayuri, he'll probably do a little bit of this and a little bit of that lol. The chapter had it's funny moments, but I'm neutral about it. Hate Mayuri, but I have sympathy towards
What is her name?
XD :animeswea
-
Indeed. Even though that fight wasn't all that great, I still want to know that secret. (Perhaps even more than I want to see Tobi's identity.) I've been wondering where people said something about Zetsu's split personality, but I see it as clear as day here. Maybe somebody should've ran into him. I'd like to see how he fights. It's really hard to add to the topic if another manga (Black Lagoon) is stealing it's glory lol.

A Revival =D I'm playing this game from the Final Fantasy Chronicles thingy. I just started really, so I'm not far at all. I just recently got Frog, and I got 2 Techs for Crono, Frog, and Lucca so far. All of them are at level 7. I think it's pretty straight-forward so far. Storywise, I don't know, I haven't been paying much attention to it =p. I can understand why everyone likes this game, in terms of gameplay, though. It's the same as FFVII, FFVIII, but at the same time, it's really different from the FF series. (Does that make sense? lol) I thought I would have some major issues with the graphics because I'm such a graphic freak, but that's not the case at all. The 2D sprites are actually growing onto me bit by bit. (And I should get use to it since I'm going back to play my 2D fighting games.) I do like the anime intro. Music so far is decent. Nothing mindblowing, and a few that can put me to sleep. Playing this game has put me in the mood to play Dragon Quest VIII. (Mainly because I like Akira's artwork and character designs) I've never played the game, although, I did have it at one point, but I got tired of RPG's and ended up trading it in. I'll get it back along with my ps2. My God brother is suppose to be giving me one of his ps2's. Lucky me =). My only gripe with this game so far has to be the loading, and it's only a minor issue. Sometimes, it makes me think my game froze. (or is scratched) I look forward to seeing how this game turns out.
Depends on what you wanna know Tombstone...I loved playing anthology because of Chrono Trigger. That game is RP games at their height in my opinion. I am still working on getting all the possible endings for the game.
Ah, nothing really. I was kidding. Unless you're gonna help me cheat XD. In any case, I started playing Chrono Trigger yesterday (Decided to put FF8 on hold for a bit. I did get the Lion Heart before I got off the first disc though), but I didn't do much since I was just doing a little testing. I played about a good 10-15 minutes of it to get the feel of things. I did about maybe 4-5 fights. I did the Cyclone tech... That's about it. At first I was real skeptical about it because of the 2D sprites. Resembles them Pokemon games a lot. And seeing how I'm graphics whore, it's kind of hard to adapt and whatnot. But it's growing onto me so it shouldn't be much of a problem. I do like the intro btw =). Man, I gotta get me a new tv. Playing this game, or any other game that requires reading can be hard if you can't see all of the words. >_>
If your first thought upon entering this thread is that you are indeed a good cook, then what are your favorite things to make?
Nope. I would think I'm decent when it comes to cooking, but I do suck at it. Majority of the things I make is meat. (Steak, Chicken, Pork Chop, Hamburger) You name it, more than likely I can find a way to make it.. Crunchy or tender. lol One thing though, I have a tendency to not use a lot of salt. Most of the times my meat don't taste right for everyone, and so I say poo on them. XD
Or if you?re like me, someone who isn?t much of a cook at all, how do you get by?
The good old fashion way. My mom. XD However, I also use the microwave as well as the George Foreman grill. XD (Yeah, veggies don't exist. lol..) But when I get my own place and whatnot, I'll probably be living off of Hot Pockets. XD That way I wouldn't have to dirty up any dishes. (I really hate washing dishes, so I try to stick with the simple stuff.) I don't do fast foods as often. It's more like once every other week or twice a month. And it's normally just Coney Island (Chicken Pita), Chinese joint (Shrimp and Brockley), or Subway (Grilled Chicken). When we do do the fast food joints, it's normally because nobody feels like cooking lol. (Such a lazy bunch here lol) Restaurants is a once in a blue moon for me mainly because I'm tired of them. All we did was go to the Restaurants when I was younger. Now if I do go to one, It's mainly a breakfast joint. (The I-Hop)
