My dad and I were driving over to San Jose, which is about an hour away, and I actually saw four stores closing... It's not all about the economy or anything, of course.
Are you saying that war is good or bad for the economy? Because, if you look at past wars, they actually increase the economy and make it better. Just curious because I couldn't tell what you meant by that :)
 2.
Originally posted by Orien_Xel So if I don't support our government I'm not patriotic?
Um, you're reading too much into my post. I'm not even going to answer that.

Wow, is that possible? That is legal midget-height...
The guy that's like, 7'6 said he was about 4'10 in the sixth grade... o_o;;
Funny how that always seems to happen ^_^ The short guys almost always have huuge growth spurts over the summer, and when they come back to school it's like, "Whoa! What happened to you?" Hehe :D As for myself, I think I was an on-time bloomer. I developed at a normal, steady rate. I'm 5'7" now, and other than my weight, I don't think anything else is really going to grow much larger now ;D
 4.
Originally posted by Tommy Vercetti Do any of you guys recomend some famous places, landmarks i should visit etc? I've seen more of NYC than I care to see, it's not really the town for me... :grumble:
 5. I don't know if this is off-topic or not, but today I took some photographs of people rallying for the war. It was the first organized group of people supporting our troops that I have seen thus far. There were only about 6 of them, but they were standing on a corner of a busy, busy intersection, and the entire time that I was taking pictures, the horns of drivers-by never stopped going. I think more people support the war than we know, there are just some people who are afraid of the criticism that they will recieve if they speak out about it. I chatted with the lady in charge of the group and told her that I appreciated what they were all doing. I'm still on the fence about whether or not the war is a "good" thing, but I loved seeing people doing something other than creating a second Veitnam-esque peace protest. I don't know if some people who protest the war really don't want one to happen, or if they just do it because it's the popular thing to do. I guess it was just a refreshing thing to see friendly, patriotic people out in the community letting their out numbered opinions be heard. So yes, I don't know if that was off topic, but it made my day.
 6.
Originally posted by gokents 2.5 kids, suv's and mansions. What a joke. And that makes me wonder about the opinions I have come to form over the time I have been here.
::sigh:: gokents, I'm not directing any of the comments toward you with the intent to be condescending. I'm just letting my views be known, and I find it frustrating that I can't do so without people feeling offended and jumping on my back. I find it difficult to get involved in topics like this, because I didn't even start out supporting a certain political group, and in this topic I wanted to stay neutral. Don't assume that I agree with everything the liberals have to say, even if I consider myself to have more liberal tendencies. I'm willing to be open minded to the opinions from people who believe differently than I, but I start to close myself off and get defensive when people attack my beliefs without considering what I have to say [that's in general, I'm not talking to anyone specific]. About the 2.5 kids blah blah blah thing: I agree that it's a phoney stereotype, but I was using it as an example. There's plenty of stupid stereotypes that I could use against the liberals, I just didn't need one in the context of that post. Feel free to be angered or let down by my post...I suppose it's not my place to make everyone happy with what I have to say. I just encourage everyone to try and accept the views of others and not get so worked up about comments that offend your personal affiliation. I really did mean to stay neutral in this topic, I'm sorry that people had to see it otherwise and turn my words into the bad guys =\
 7.
Originally posted by gokents I am truely dissapointed with this sort of thought. (I guess I shouldn't have expected much in the first place... right?) And this goes for both of you. This is just ridiculus and the thought of liberals being the only ones wishing for the betterment and furthering of human progress is only a testiment towards your own ignorance.
Heh, good to know someone is always disappointed in me :p I don't think SITH meant that in a condescending way...during my photo project for class, everyone who was assigned the left wing found it far easier to find pictures. Why? As we discussed in class, liberals are often out there vying for change, giving voice to their opinions. And yes, sometimes those opinions are bad ideas. When I agreed with SITH, I agreed with the philosophy that liberals are often out in the world trying to make a change (peace rallies, anyone?), while conservatives are often less likely to demonstrate their need for change. Most of them ARE pretty happy with their 2.5 children, SUV, and east coast mansions. [don't take that in the wrong way, I know it's a stereotype >_
 8. I don't think this is a strange topic at all, one of my friends already dubbed all of our friends a certain animal a year or so ago :D I'm an Alpha Female Wolf, (according to those who know me) and I think it fits me well. The alpha female is the domiate female in a pack of wolves, and she's often beautiful, healthy, strong, and cunning. She's not afraid to defend herself or her pack from outside threats, and she's not afraid to put lesser wolves in their place if need be. I guess it almost sounds like a brutal thing, but I know it fits me well ^_^
 9.
Originally posted by gokents Not that your opinion doesnt matter, but I dont know about your experience with censorship as a foriegn war correspondent.
I'm going into photojournalism, this is the type of stuff that we learn about. More than one guest speaker (people like Carolyn Cole and Mr. Steve McCurry) has told us about their limitations as media in war time situations. I wasn't just making it up for arguments sake :)
Originally posted by {SITH} Change If you belive is conservatism, you are afraid of change, you wish to hold back society from the brink of rapid progress and slow things down. If you are a liberal, you look ahead and take the plunge, you go for the gold.
Ahh, now that makes sense :D I tend to agree with you.
 10.
Originally posted by SpyderDragon The media is liberal, wouldn't it make that the popular party. And don't tell me the media doesn't sway people...
It depends on which part of media you're talking about, I don't think that really any form of media can be considered to have a political affiliation... However, if you want to give it a side, then you have to take into account that when the media goes over-seas to cover foreign wars, where they can go is very much dictated by the US government. They're going to allow the media to document what they want America to see. During Vietnam, which media first played a huge roll in war time America, the media basically had free reign of the country and could decide where they wanted to go and what they wanted to document. But that has changed today, and the war time media is kept under close watch and tight control. That fraction of the media obviously cannot be put under a category such as 'liberal' in such a case. Yet, I'm assuming that you were talking about Hollywood media. In that case, I still don't think it's really fair to put it under a political party, but I see where you're coming from.
 11.
Originally posted by Harry those that sit in the middle, unable to choose a side, are the big threats. eventually, they choose the most popular side, only serving to dummy up that side's argument.
I wasn't talking about those who were undecided on which side of the fence to sit on ;) I was referring to the people who are a mix of both, which is honestly a majority of the United States. For example, I'm a big liberal supporter of pro-choice for women, but I'm hardly liberal in the sense that I don't agree with affirmative action. It's not like I'm undecided on my opinions, so I can't be easily swayed by the "popular" party (is there even such a thing o_O?). But that's getting too involved in my thoughts on political issues, I just wanted to give an example to explain myself in a more efficient way :)
 12. 1.) What thoughts or words come to mind when someone says, "Church"?
Stifled.
2.) Give two reasons why you don't go to church.
1. The church I used to attend soured my appetite for the Christian word. 2. I don't agree with a lot of what the Bible teaches...do I really need a higher power to exist happily in this world?
3.) What qualities do you think a church needs to be a "good" church?
Good youth leadership, sermons that relate to the congregation, a "light" atmosphere, as opposed to an opressive one. A good church should never have a leader or pastor who has no social skills or who can't relate to people. It's one thing if you believe stronly in your faith and want to help spread the word, but if you have an awkward presence around humans beings, then your message won't hit home.
13.
So does anyone live in California or Las Vegas?
I'm an hour north of Los Angeles :) I may actually be making a stop in San Diego if I end up going to Mexico in a week. My university runs on a odd semester schedule: we go to school for 7 weeks and get the 8th week off. This upcoming week is a break week, and it couldn't have come at a better time. I hope that I get to go to Mexico for two days and lose myself in a bit of a drunken haze, it would be a nice relief after the recent events that have been happening in my life :whoops:
 14.
Originally posted by Heaven's Cloud I actually think the group that is the most dangerous is comprised of people that argue and bicker over which side is infallible.
I like that thought :) My final project for my photojournalism class was to document the "right" side of life, as in the right wing abd left wing side of politics. I was stuck with the right wing, a side that is harder to document during this time in which protesting the war seems to be the latest [and not to mention hippest!] trend. Since conservatives are placed under the right wing catergory, I seem to have brainstormed every cliché and stereotype that is bred by the conservative population. And, quite honestly, all of the stereotypes myself and others came up with were degrading: war mongers, earth killers, oppressors of women's rights...those things aren't exactly easy [or pretty] to show in photographs. However, as I started to look at it more in depth, I found that it's not just the stereotypes that make up the liberal and conservative parties. There are plenty of people [and I'd say the majority of the United States' population] who are a mix of both, like someone who is a conservative economist but a liberal thinker when it comes to civil rights. It's the extreme liberals and the extreme conservatives that cause the petty bickering between the right and left wings. I think at times it's futile to run in endless circles defending your side of politics; no matter what you say, someone who thinks differently is going to shoot you down. It's the closed mindedness of both parties that is the biggest threat, not the people themselves.
 15.
Originally posted by Sara Eee! Wasn't it gorgeous today? I walked outside after school and nearly fell over, it was such a perfect day outside.
Hehe, I remember days like that ^_^. I was so happy that it was sunny yesterday for my brother's funeral, sun is super rare at this time of the year in Michigan. And it WAS nice today, but since I've been in 65° weather all winter in California, I don't feel the same relief at the warmness as I used to when I lived in Michigan. But, ahh, I remember what it was like when it first started to get warm in the spring. It was the nicest thing ever...spring even has its own distinctive smell. Mmm.
 16. wheh. This is a difficult question. Watching my brother grow up for 12 years in a wheelchair makes me more than aware of its pros and cons. First of all, you get stared at wherever you go, so if you don't like people looking at you then it's a bad thing. Secondly, TONS of places are super hard to get a wheelchair in and out of, not to mention get around in. Some stores make it near impossible to manuver one up and down aisles without blocking the whole thing or getting stuck. And when THAT happens, people give you mean looks and mutter to themselves... Other than the fact that it could prevent the disease, I can't see any pros to using a wheelchair. I've seen enough of them in my day. But in this case...I'd probably think of my loved ones and take the wheelchair, putting myself aside and bearing with it for three years.
 17.
Originally posted by Meier_Link by the way, i wonder if anyone here is replying to the thread just becuz she looks good, besides me
:rotflmao: Thanks, I needed that. Anyway, I'm so grateful for everyone who replied to this thread. I was feeling kind of lost before I returned to Michigan and it was good to hear from so many people. The visitation and service for Eric were as beautiful as a sad thing like that can be, and were both a celebration of his life rather than a mourning. I feel so much better after seeing how many people he touched in his short time here; he did the job he was sent here to do, and he just got tired of trying to prove his worth. Many people couldn't see past his disability or his wheelchair, but those who did knew that his laugh would always make someone's day, and that his devilishly handsome [and infamous] grins were a constant factor of his day. I'll miss him terribly, but the lessons that he taught me and everyone else will remain down here. I know that he'll always be watching over me, and I couldn't have asked for a better guardian angel than him
 18. Thanks to everyone for the support :) I guess that my brother had a bad cold the past few days, and since his immune system wasn't as strong as it could be, it took him a long time to get over sicknesses. My parents said that sometime during the night he just stopped breathing =\. I just can't imagine being the one who went to go wake him up and find it...I'm dealing with it pretty well with the support of my boyfriend, but I'm afraid that my parents aren't doing well at all. It's not right for him to have died so young. Meier_Link- I'm 18 and going to college in California. My brother was under the extremely loving care of my parents in Michigan; nothing could have been done to prevent what happened, it just happened.
 19.
Originally posted by TheDarkOtaku Bob Fosse always mixed great lyrics and music to his unique style of dancing (which in my opinion is strange)
I LOOOVE Bob Fosse. He's a god. His dance technique is incredibly hard to master, so it's amazing to watch people who can do it. I loved Chicago, but I hated Renee Zellweger; she's skinny and gross and I really didn't like her in that roll. However, I love musicals and I especially love Fosse shows, so Chicago gets an A+ from me!
 20. I've never really wanted to add to the depressing threads in the Lounge, but I feel as though I really need to today. My 12 year old brother passed away suddenly last night, and I'm feeling really helpless. I'm in California for college, and my family is back in Michigan. I'm going home soon, but I still feel like there's nothing I can do but sit here and cry :( I've never had to deal with the loss of someone close to me, and I loved my brother more than anything. He taught me a lot about life, he LOVED life, he was selfless and so many people loved him. He touched a lot of lives, and I think that tons of people will be affected by his passing. I still love him soooo much, but I'm still feeling a bit helpless being 3,000 miles away from my family. I guess I just need some words of support or advice or anything =\

It's unlikely that I'd ever go, but I'm curious ^_^ Ah, and I don't know why I thought Boba Fett lived somewhere in California :drunk:
 22. Shyguy and I live about an hour and a half apart, and I believe that Rick Hunter lives about 10 minutes away. I think that Boba Fett lives somewhere in California, too, but I forget how close he is to me  And then of course there's Rico, Raiha, and Juuthena up in San Francisco, which is only about half a day's drive ^_^
 23.
Originally posted by Tasis ...if it wasn't for all the sand on the camera lens...
I wish I could fix that problem :( It's not actually sand on the lens, it's just a very, very dirty slide. The lab where I get my slides processed always turn out really dirty results. It's gross and annoying :P [slide film is sort of like regular print film but better, and they turn into little slides, not prints, that can be projected with a projector ^_^]
Originally posted by Mitch The third- This one I believe is almost my favorite if not for the first one. 25. This will only be my second Valentine's Day in which I have a boyfriend, and the first time was in 7th grade so that doesn't count. I used to be bitter about this silly day, too, and I know I still would be if I wasn't so in love :smooch: So for all of you who are single: don't worry, the Otaku Boards love you! (Isn't it nice to come somewhere in which there are lots of other single people? That helped me a lot when I was single too ^_^.) Oh, and with the risk of sounding cliché, don't worry, you'll find that special one soon enough. And so ends that silly little speech.
