Obi Wan and Yoda were two that managed to escape being killed. Because of the constant fear of discovery by the Empire, or Vader himself, the Jedi remained hidden and slowly died out. Luke was the last hope (or, a [i]new[/i] hope if you go by the title of Episode IV ;)) for both Yoda and Obi Wan. It mattered not how old he was, but rather that he would be able to destroy both the Emperor and Vader, as Boba Fett already mentioned. I hope that helps explain it :)[/color]

That planet originated from the novels, just as an example. Lucas has to make sure that the novels don't spoil his long-term plans for the movies. Especially if he plans on doing VII-IX. (Which I hope he does!) With Luke and Mara and all of that stuff that happens...ugh...those books were semi-boring. If they DID make Episodes VII-IX, what books would you guys want to see them made from? Or none of the books at all? I think the year immediately following RotJ would be cool, then the Rogue Squadron/Thrawn era (which were sort of far apart, but who cares), then end it all with the Luke/Mara thing...(which still manages to gross me out! It's not even necessarily like I'm shy, I just don't know what to say half of the time...since I'm horrible with communication unless it is in the form of defending others. There's one situation that always gets me shy! If I'm good friends with a guy and we flirt like mad but nothing physical is happening, I'm totally not shy and have tons of fun. If I start to LIKE that guy I start to close up and start feeling stupid when I say stuff...it's so SO stupid. I also start to get scared when a relationship moves into the "physical" phase...even if I'm WAY into it...I'm just weird like that :D In fact, I'm trying to deal with a "situation" like this right now...[/color]
