Leon, loving the luffing from your Myspace friends. And rock on stonehenge, despite the fact that I've never been within eyeshot of it nor ever intend to be. Being on the same island's enough for me. : P Anyways, from oldest to most recent - posted over the screaming of my neighbours' three incredibly annoying and immature children, who're in their teen's and still cry when they get themselves grounded for good reason, even when it's just for one fricking day - behold my face. Gurrhh... A year or so ago; Quite a dark one, but I prefer it to the one where I used the flash... because my high hairline isn't as obvious here. In high school, people who never paid much attention to my hairline thought I was receeding when they finally noticed it. :animedepr Half a year or so ago; I look very unshaven, yes? You can't make it out easily on this one [hence why I chose it] , but I had some monstrously fuzzy sideburns at the time. Really, they could eat a man whole. A month or so ago; Me with my brother [he who posts very, very rarely] at m'uncle's wedding. I'm not sure what I was looking at, but meh. And a double-meh to the dopey look on my face. However, a big hurrah for my tie-banner coordination of sorts. Hurrah, I say! And there you have it. Be glad, and know that I am me.

Well, my full name is Alexander Nathan Lucking. I've always used the "defender of men" translation of Alexander, but I hadn't known the meaning of Nathan 'til I checked the site that Shinmaru linked to. So...
NATHAN Gender: Masculine Usage: English, Biblical Other Scripts: נָתָן (Hebrew) Pronounced: NAY-than [key] Means "giver" in Hebrew. In the Old Testament this is the name of a prophet and also a son of King David. This name can also function as a short form of JONATHAN or NATHANAEL.
So I'm a defender and a giver, apparently. Despite hating my first names in their entirity, I quite like them nowadays, and am quite happy to roll them out in full form when signing up to things. I kind of like them even more now that I know what they mean together, since they match eachother quite well, though it'd be even more satisfying if I had the full 'Nathanael' going on. As far as Lucking goes, I don't really know the meaning. It could, supposedly, be a variant of 'Lockett', 'Lovekin', the German 'Lueking'/'Luecking' [which seems the logical choice], 'Locking', or a couple of Old English words. But to be honest, I don't really care that much. My grandfather hailed from Ireland, the name's at its most 'common' in Germany, the Netherlands, and - for the UK at least - Essex, and I can't be bothered to decide which name I'd prefer for it to originate from. Oh, and... *clears throat*
Skip all the elf name generators

But how will the elves be able to respond to this thread?!
More importantly,
how will Prick Wizard be able to respond to this thread? Without elf-related material, we've probably alienated him for life!

1 ~ What is your NATURAL hair color/colors? Brown. A kind of half-hearted 'why stand out when I can be plain old brown?' colour. Not too dark, and not too light. Doesn't bleach too much in the sun either, darned lazy hair. 2 ~ Have you ever dyed your hair? If so, what color[s]? Not permanently or properly. I once [or twice] put some wash-out red stuff on it, and it ended up darkish red-brown [duh], with a little bit of a purple-pink tinge. 3A ~ If you have, do you regret it? Has it damaged your hair? Blah. 3B ~ If you haven't, do you want to? If I was to dye it properly, which isn't all that likely, I'd probably go for a copper-ish colour. But I'm not particularly enthusiastic about it, so no. I have [vaguely] better things to spend money on. 4 ~ Are you satisfied with your current hair color? Content. Not disappointed, not overwhelmingly satisfied, just grateful to have something on my head. 5 ~ What is your favorite style for your hair? That slightly scruffy 'I really don't care' look, at whatever length it happens to be at the time. 6 ~ What kind of hair do you like in the opposite sex? Just above or below shoulder-length, I s'pose. In the end, so long as they like it, I really don't mind what type of hairstyle they go for. If it does look good on them, then hurray for the both of us.
I like to thank you for all your post on my thread yes it is i Mythology i was banned i dont know why though but thanks any way

If I had to guess, it's probably because your post quality is and was considerably poor. To be banned you must've ignored a heck of a lot of warnings, so I would've thought the reason for the ban would have been blatantly obvious. It probably doesn't help that you've made another account with post quality that's just as poor, either.
On topic, I've never had a complete idea of my 'perfect girl', though there are certain traits that I can't help but love in all the people I've fell for 'til now. - A good, witty sense of humour, with hints [or bucket-loads] of sarcasm. - A fair share of humility, since I don't want someone who's going to annoy the hell out of me with tales of how great they are, even if I'd be inclined to agree with them. - Self-confidence and a sense of purpose, as it's nice and inspirational in a way. Though, as others have said, she'd have to have some faults. - Quirky, even borderline eccentric. My current crush collects roadsigns, ice-cream pots, and all sorts of odd things, and I find it incredibly attractive. - The standard desirable qualities. Fidelity, honesty, yada-yada-yada.

I'm a collector all the way. Not because I want to boast about it or take great pride in my collection, I'm just too lazy to trade. And like Desbreko said, trade-in prices really are terrible anyway. Yeah... I probably have near 30 PS2 games, and I haven't played most of them in at least a year. Then I've got a SNES and N64 up in the attic, gathering dust along with their games. And a number of GameBoy games lying around too. I'd say the definitive anti-gem of my collection would have to be that ol' crapheap, Oni. It came with my brother's PS2 when he got it 3-odd years ago, and he didn't want it when he took the PS2 with him. It's just so bad... here's [strike]hoping[/strike] guessing that I haven't played that one in at least two years. :cross:
Communism is basically the unloved backwards cousin of Utopia, as was Nazi Germany to a certain extent. Unfortunately, such positions of power can easily be abused by the opportunistic, as we can see from both those cases I outlined. Power corrupts otherwise unflawed individuals. Democracy isn't much better now, but it means that there are an awful lot more of people and safety mechanisms to prevent such an abuse of power.
Actually, the original concept of communism was supposed to be a sort of Utopian society, and if anything it was supposed to remove all positions of power. Supposedly, it'd be the end result of capitalism, which'd arise with the revolution of the working class. The thing we generally think of when we see the word communism is simply the poor, corrupted application of that original vision, and is more than a bit different from the original idea. Pure communism would be a society where the wealth of the world would be shared equally, at least in the sense that everything would belong to everyone. If it does ever get applied properly, I'll look forward to it. : P Also, democracy doesn't really do all that much to keep bad people out of power. Germany had been a democracy before the rise of the Nazi's [I think], who had used the people's fears and prejudice to get themselves into power. A group can easily manipulate the system so long as the people are too short-sighted to see the big picture. I don't really think a Utopian society can ever really exist, even though I kind of wish that it could. Things like that just have a way of going wrong. Theories and ideas are one thing, but we humans seem to have a knack for screwing up the real deal.

Wow... I remember that thread from one of my previous incarnations. Never posted in it mind you, but hey. I really am terrible at writing for these kind of things, but I think I'll give it a go anyway. "The sand, the sea, the gentle breeze... it's always the same. Stupid things you've done with your friends.
Dodeca replied to Up4anime's topic in General Discussion
It's hardly the most stupid of all stupid things, but I once loaded a pint of Coca-Cola with something close to 30 sachets of sugar. It took about 15 minutes of near-constant stirring to mix it all in, and I could only drink half of it in the end. Still, I managed to drink more than my friend who only drank a quarter-or-so of his, with less sugar mixed in to begin with. Yeah... it took me quite a while to fall asleep that night, unsurprisingly. There are other things I could mention, but some of them are just too embarassing. :cross: -

Sadly, my summer this year won't be quite as interesting as the last, but it should still be fun. Once my exams finish [next monday, yay] I'll be done wih college for now, even if I don't do too well I have no intention of going back just yet. After that I'll have two or three weeks before my true summer kicks in, during which time I will most likely be bored out of my mind. Anyway, around the end of July I'll be going to the same [Christian] summer conference I do every year, and I'll be doing children's work for the whole two weeks. Last year I wasn't able to, seeing as I was set to leave for Africa half-way through the first week, and the year before that I could only do one week since under-18s aren't allowed to work through both. I enjoyed it, even though it did limit my ability to participate in the rest of the conference, and, since a couple more of my friends'll be working aswell, I'm sure it'll be just as good if not better this time around. After that I've got a few days back home, then I'm off to another conference, at which I'll just be your average attendee. And I imagine I'll be glad to be, after two weeks of working. Not as many of my friends'll be there this time round, but it should still be fun. A couple of days later one of my five uncles is getting married, and this joyous occasion shall bring me the wonderous tidings of a brand-new suit. Even if the previous three weeks turned out to be a truly disappointing waste of time, this alone would make my summer great. Well... maybe not alone, but there y'go. And, at the end of it all, I shall enter my wonderous gap year and find myself a mind-numbingly tedious job. Hurrah!
Secondly they?re not my morals, because by saying that you?re talking as if I?m the only person, one out of six and a bit billion people who wants to deny gay people their right to get married. They?re the morals of anyone who follows the tenets of the Catholic Church properly, which is somewhere in the one billion mark, and I?m not even counting members of other religions who feel the same way.
So just because six and a bit billion people want to deny gay people's right to get married instead of one, that makes it better? If six billion people believe they have just cause to oppose something that has little to no relevance to them, just because it doesn't fit with beliefs that the affected people don't share, then those six billion people really need to get their priorities sorted. I'm a Christian, and although I may not feel all that comfortable with homosexuality, I'll be damned if I'm going to force my beliefs onto other people.
Now I?ve already said from a legal standpoint only I don?t care if they get married or not, they?re only condemning themselves to an eternity to hellish torture, but seeing as religious beliefs that aren?t in line with giving gay people their liberty to marriage don?t seem to matter, I won?t continue.
But are they really damning themselves any more than any other person? This may just be the fruit of my Protestant allignment, but I was lead to believe that any person, Christian or otherwise is affected by sin, even something as simple as refusing to acknowledge God's existence, and that nothing other than Christ's intervention could remove that sin. From what I've been taught, one extra sin on the pile isn't going to make hell any less bearable for a non-Christian, and stopping them from practicing homosexuality insn't going to do anything if they don't come to Christ. Think for a moment, if the Church suppresses homosexuals' ability to make their own decisions, would they be more likely to 'join up' or less likely? You may disagree with me, and have every right to, but I think you'd be condemning more people than you'd be saving with that approach. [Don't take any of this as a personal attack against you, Gavin. Your points are well-structured, and I can sort of understand where you're coming from, but there's not much else that I can argue against, really. : P]

Heh, one of my friends had a ditzy moment today. Though... to be fair she has them most days, I think. We'd been having a group conversation vaguely on political correctness, and this came up afterwards in a [very basic] conversation about the afterlife; Obvious A: Heaven is good, hell is bad. Ditzy B: *gasp* Hey, that's discrimination! *awkward silence* Ditzy B: Oh... right... *blushes* Heh, almost on a par with her Barbie Jesus doll show. : P Anyways, though I'm a Christian, and naturally believe in heaven and hell, I do have difficulty at times accepting that any and all non-Christians're automatically condemned to hell. It just doesn't really make sense to me that a loving God would condemn people who may have lived good lives based solely on their decisions [or lack thereof] in the spiritual department. Though the whole "Only we will be saved!" is the main drive to 'converting' people, as is with pretty much any traditional religion, I'd like to think that good people would be given a chance to 'attone' for the spiritual aspect of their lives before they'd be judged. Still, even if Christianity isn't the real thing and we're not all saved, I've got no problem with plain-old ceasing to exist. After a [hopefully] long, healthy and probably quite tedious life, I imagine I'd quite look forward to it actually. Wouldn't be so optimistic about eternal damnation though, for the most obvious of reasons. : P
Okay. That just confused me. I don't see why only a certain amount of people should be allowed to be saved. It seems unfair somehow that you can only be saved if you are a true believer of only one faith.[/color']
Like Caine said, it's just symbolic, like pretty much everything else in Revelations and any prophetic part of the bible. The number by itself doesn't mean anything today - it was simply used, at the time, to carry the concept that all of the Jews would be saved. 12, as Caine explained, represents wholeness, completion, thus the 12,000 of each of the 12 tribes being 'saved' was meant to symbolise the salvation that would be granted to the entire nation of Israel. Plus, if people would just take the time to read a verse onwards, they'd find; "After this I looked and there before me was a great multitude that no-one could count, from every nation, tribe, people and language, standing before the throne and in front of the Lamb..." Revelation 7:9, NIV The whole idea of no-one being able to count them wouldn't really fit if only the 144,000 mentioned in the last 4 verses were going to be saved, and neither does the 'every nation, tribe, people and language' either, since the 144,000 was referring exclusively to the people of Israel. ["Then I heard the number of those who were sealed: 144,000 from the tribes of Israel" Rev 7:4] And if that didn't clear things up, I don't know what will. : P
I've studied this topic a bit, and Daniel and thessalonians, although having references to the end of the world, they have nothing significant to add.[/COLOR']
I'd beg to differ. It may not be directly relevant to the events in Revelation, but it does serve as a 'prelude' of sorts, albeit confusingly. If it wasn't for Daniel's interpretations after each dream/prophecy, I'd be completely stumped. : P I could go ahead and summarise it or put a basic timeline of the 'interpreted' version up, but I think it'll just hurt my brain. Besides, it's not that difficult to look it up and make your own interpretation of it, as you may or may not've done already if you've been looking into it. Though I don't open a Bible all that often, trying to get past all the symbolism has it's own twisted form of fun. Or maybe I'm just lacking a life... yeah, I'll go with that. : P
Anyway, going to topic, every time I try to explain no one listens. I also get flamed for it, so I desided I wouldn't go too into it for their and my sake.
HR, I don't think I've ever seen anyone here flame you per se. I've seen people reply to your opinions with their own, sometimes a little too... enthusiastically... but that's about it most of the time. And sometimes people won't necessarily listen to what you say, but I don't think that happens too much here. Not everyone likes to start off a post by agreeing/disagreeing with someone else, but that doesn't mean that they haven't taken the time to take your opinion into consideration. Though... to be honest, you can end up sounding like a high-street preacher every now and then. : P * * * From my oh-so-vaguely-Christian view, no number of dates - or anything else that people might see as signs - could really tell when the end of the world will come. I thought the whole point of the Second Coming and the end of the world was supposed to be a surprise. Y'know, so that all people'd be judged as they would've been any other day. Otherwise, the entire population of the world could just 'repent' with a day's notice, and [supposedly] be saved. What'd be the point in that?
What do you think when you see someone attractive? And when you know someone, you realize that attraction of personality...what do you think?
1. I think any number of thoughts, which can depend entirely on my mood or how well I know the person. Often, it'll be something along the lines of "Ahh..." followed relatively quickly by "Oh well." and a turn of the head. 2. Regardless of what I think, I end up making a total fool out of myself. That's what's supposed to happen... right...? : P Well, I s'pose what I think all depends on the person really, but if I'm attracted to them in both looks and personality, it often comes with some sense of... fuzziness, for lack of a better word. Other than that, I just end up thinking such horrifyingly smooshie things as "Aww... she's amazing..." or end up mentally listing the qualities that I love about them. Such things as humour, kindness and a healthy dose of sarcasm - or, as far as my current crush goes, a helluva lot of sarcasm. Ahh...
on the whole spanish thing, why do they feel te need to translate it? They knew it would cause an uproar (they did it at the height of the immigration debate). They were trying to make a statement, but they knew that they would offend people. I honestly don't understand why they feel the need to change it. Also, because of rythm, its sometimes difficult to translate a song. Most songs don't translate exactly, and changes need to be made if they're to be sung. Since this was sung, I would like to know how the lyrics translate.
The issue isn't whether or not those people meant to cause offence, the problem lies with the people who felt that they had the right to take offence to it. And even if a person can speak English, I don't see why they'd have to sing it in English. As far as the accuracy of translation goes, I don't see why there should be any issue with that either. Even if the lyrics get jumbled around a little, big deal. It's still pretty much the same thing, so why does it matter? And its might be worth noting that trying to find out how the lyrics translate could just confuse things even more, because if it translated inaccurately to Spanish, the same thing might happen when it's translated back. : P Oh, and if you hadn't guessed, I'm not a great fan of patriotism. I haven't sang along to the ol' "God Save the Queen" since primary school, and I don't intend to start again any time soon. - On one final, vaguely related note, you probably wouldn't hear any old drinking song to the tune of the Star-Spangled Banner anywhere in modern Britain. At best you might find an over-the-hill pop song, but I reckon it'd be far more likely to find people singing football [soccer] songs - possibly one of the only things I hate more than our national anthem.

Even with the rise of machina usage Spira-wide, the Moonflow was as much alive with visitors as it had been for as long as Juylan could remember. Shoopufs were definitely as popular, if not more so, than they ever had been over the last few decades, contrar to the less-than-gradual decline of the Chocobo. Juylan couldn't help but wonder, in his boredom, whether the Shoopuf's size gave it the advantage of popularity, but after struggling to see how in all of Spira that made it better than a Chocobo, he decided it'd be best to shrug it off. The main disadvantage with "traditional transport" over machina, as Juylan had become a little too conscious of over the last hour, was the amount of time that had to be spent waiting for said transport to turn up. Having just about given up, he stood up and stretched, then forced his way back through the crowd to the path that had led him to the riverbank. After taking a slight detour which took him to a small clearing, he set his sword down beside him and lay down with his eyes gazing up at the sky. "Ugh... this isn't quite what I was expecting..." He groaned. "Next time I plan on an adventure, I guess I'll need to book the express Shoopuf." He lay still for a few short moments, but soon felt his boredom returning and lifted his sword up to the light. Tilting and turning the blade, he managed to get a good view of his surroundings, bland as they were. A few - no, a lot - of trees, the occasional bush or flowerbed, the crowds still just about visible from where he lay, and... "Whoa!" Juylan's eyes widened, and he quickly clambered to his feet to face the fiend that stood glaring at him.
A Sallet attacks! The fiend charged side-on at Juylan, but he had enough time to react and avoid its attack. He spun around and chased it with the hopes of killing it, but his first strike bounced off the Sallet's armour without leaving a scratch. The fiend charged a second time while Juylan was regaining his balance, knocking him aside, but fortunately doing little to injure him. "Damn you!" Juylan yelled, as the fiend charged once again. He managed to dodge the charge, quickly striking at its arm joint as it passed him. When he saw the look of pain in the Sallet's eyes, he knew the battle was as good as over. The fiend tried to attack one final time, but collapsed from the poison mid-charge, breaking up into a group of pyreflies. Juylan: Level 1 -> Level 2
"Finally..." Juylan sighed, just about to set his sword down again when he heard a the trademark Hypello "All aboardsh!" call from the riverbank. "N-No! Wait for me!" In a panic, he quickly slipped his sword through his belt, and rushed off through the trees.

Name: Juylan Level: 2 Weapon: Iron Viper - A basic one-handed sword with a serpent motif engraved onto one side of the blade and continuing [if hidden] onto the hilt. The hilt has been wrapped tightly in faded blue fabric to give better grip on the sword. The blade has been treated with countless toxins, giving it a permanent, if unreliable, ability to poison its 'victims', and is most effective against unarmored fiends. Overdrive: Recompense: Juylan shatters a vial on the ground, which acts as a smoke-bomb of sorts. He rushes forward under the cover of the smoke, and attacks the enemies at random with 7-10 strong attacks, each causing a flash inside the cloud. He then jumps up and back, bursting out of the smoke cloud, and hurls a cluster of vials which break up the smoke cloud and damage the enemy with a toxic spray. At the end of the attack, each enemy has a 50% chance of being inflicted with a random status condition. Name: Juylan Tribe: Guado Age: 26 Birthplace: Guadosalam Appearance: [Clicketh!] Personality: Though Juylan would be quite active and open among his own people, he feels more than slightly out of place in a group of people that his tribe had brutally wronged. In the group, he is quite withdrawn and over-cautious but will still aim to do whatever he can to help. Story: Juylan was one of the Guado that took part in the attack on Home and Mount Gagazet, under the leadership of the vile Seymour Guado, who had used his people as he had used the rest of Spira. After Seymour's death, Juylan fled Guadosalam with the rest of his tribe, and, had it not been for the Gullwings' efforts to calm the Ronso's hate, would probably have died with them before seeing his home again. Juylan had fel a constant guilt for the actions of him and hs people, and the harm they had caused to Spira, and though he tried his best to return to the life he had before the days of Seymour, he could never let go of his bitter past. Hearing of the Al Bhed's efforts to make a new Home, Juylan tracked Rikku down and - nervously - asked if he could do anything to help. Though some were still unsure about allowing a Guado onboard, Rikku accepted him to the team, perhaps a little too enthusiastically. Weapon: Iron Viper - A basic one-handed sword [similiar to that shown in the link above, but not quite] with a serpent motif engraved onto one side of the blade and continuing onto the hilt. However, little of the pattern is visible on the hilt, as it has been wrapped tightly in faded blue fabric to give better grip on the sword. The blade has been treated with countless toxins, giving it a permanent, if unreliable, ability to poison its 'victims', and is most effective against unarmored fiends.
