Charlotte couldnâ??t move. She had watched the harpy feast on Jacqueline. She watched as Daniel Mathis killed the harpy, rising from the ground like one of the spirits. She watched Jacqueline rise from the dead only to flee, pursued by the spirits. Now she was alone. Tears streamed down her face and pooled in her eyes. She tried to blink them away to no avail. She was completely helpless. *** Evelynne ran. She ran until her lungs burned and her calves caught fire. She ran through the Mansion checking every exit, every window, every door. There seemed to be no escape. She ran to the staircase and froze as Wyatt Bishop rose from the dead. His chest heaved and a gurgle emerged from his lips. His eyes came to life and Evelynne knew that Wyatt Bishop could feel his body mending. His neck, which bent at an unusual angle, snapped back in place and Wyatt screamed. He continued to scream as his body healed, his bones mended and his lacerations closed. Evelynne watched all of this, transfixed by the magic. When it finished Wyatt looked at her. It was a dangerous look, and Evelynne knew in that moment she should have fled when she had the chance. â??YOU! You did this to me!â? â??No Iâ?¦â? â??YOU DID THIS!!â? Wyatt lunged at Evelynne and grabbed her by the throat. Evelynne tried to struggle, she tried to break free. She scratched his eyes and face but the wounds she inflicted healed instantly. She tried to scream but her windpipe was crushed. Evelynne died without as much as a whimper. *** Wyatt couldnâ??t control his rage. It was odd, he was horrified and satisfied that he killed Evelynne. He knew she wasnâ??t responsible for his death but blaming her seemed so right. She needed to pay. They all need to pay. Wyatt wondered through the mansion and found himself face to face with Charlotte. She was so still, he would have sworn that she was a statue if tears hadnâ??t been streaming down her face. He hit her and she didnâ??t make a sound. She didnâ??t move. She didnâ??t do anything. The rage inside him built and he hit her again and again. He hit Charlotte until her face was a bloody mess. Until she was nothing more that a pile of meat and broken bones. Actually its on now. I challenge you to a whistle off. Whoever can whistle the best through type wins... I'm just giving you a hard time. I'm sure I killed more than one character that wasn't ready to die in this RPG.

Sorry, I was really just waiting for someone to post some more back story, bring another character back to life, or push the plot forward a bit before I killed a few folks. I was also struggling to figure out what to write since my plot device was killed within one post. Really Anomaly, you couldn't wait a few turns to kill the only character that has a connection to one of these specters? Ah, it isn't your fault, you just killed my plot line and I really am not sure where to take the story from here. I'll wait for Nathan to post and then I'll kill a person or three.
This is my unhappy face. No. NO. NNNNNNOOOOOOOO. The Pokemon look kind of...terrible. Also, what's with all the guns? You can have a giant blue water dragon or maybe a purple psychic cat thing, so why would you need to resort to bullets?
I don't know, if someone was about to sick a giant blue water dragon on my I'd probably just shoot him. Kind of like if someone had a tiger in a cage and was about to open the cage door to let the tiger eat you. If you had a gun wouldn't you shoot him before the tiger had the chance to eat you?

I love stand up comedy. Whether it be campy, thought provoking, topical, or just a great string of one-liners, few things are as wonderful as a well-written bit. So I thought we could use this thread to share our favorite bits. My first selection is this bit by George Carlin about flamethrowers. A few come to mind, the first is Spike versus Pierre Le Fou from Cowby Bebop. I especially like the shadow scene where Spike is repeatedly "air" kicked. The second scene from Bebop is Spike versus Asimov. The fight is okay, but it is really brought up a notch with Rush playing in the background. Another favorite of mine is Jubei versus Utsutsu from Ninja Scroll. Pretty old school, but still classic.

Gainesville Qu'ran Burning Controversy
Heaven's Cloud replied to Gavin's topic in General Discussion
My point still stands in these cases. The Bible doesn't just represent Catholics who protect pedophiles. It represents all Catholics, as well as Lutherans, Baptists, Mormons and countless other denominations of Christianity who have absolutely nothing to do with what's being protested. It's like bombing an entire city to exterminate a small crime ring. If you want to protest the Catholic church's policies, picket them. It's more direct, tells them exactly what you think they're doing wrong and doesn't involve a disproportionate amount of unrelated people. Same with the flag burning. it doesn't send a message to anyone other than that the burner is a distasteful rabble-rouser. If the government is doing something they don't agree with, it's a citizen's right and responsibility to bring it to someone's attention in a coherent, respectable manner. Heck, the system is full of ways to do that, from proposing bills to public protest. No need to disrespect everything about something you only disagree with a tiny little portion of.
I disagree with your point, and I don't believe that it stands in the cases described. You are stating that there are better ways to protest, I agree with you wholeheartedly, I find most non-violent forms of protest far more palatable than book burning. However, you state that by burning a bible or a flag you are disrespecting "everything" that it stands for. I disagree with that wholeheartedly. If you specifically and publicly state that you are burning a bible in protest of the Catholic church's protection of pedophiles, then that is exactly what you are doing, burning a bible in response to a specific issue. Are you going to offend some people that find your act distasteful, yep. But you would get the same response from a lot of people if you led a protest march and they shut down a road for you, people inconvenienced might find your act distasteful as well. You state that flag burning and book burning doesn't send a message or clarify a point. Again, I couldn't disagree with you more. A powerful symbolic gesture can garner you media time and face time with politicians. You can write a thousand letters and propose a hundred bills and never hear from a politician or have a media outlet pay you any mind. Rabble rousing is probably the most effective way to garner change. -
Gainesville Qu'ran Burning Controversy
Heaven's Cloud replied to Gavin's topic in General Discussion
Except for the most part, you'll find that the religious groups committing these atrocities (keeping with the Qu'ran example here) are radical extremists who are looked down upon by their more moderate contemporaries. They're not representing Islam as a whole, they're representing an insane faction who grossly misinterprets the Qu'ran's teachings and uses it as an excuse to kill anyone they don't agree with in the name of a God who never asked them to. Burning the Qu'ran isn't a nonviolent protest against Al-Quaeda, it's religious intolerance of the entire nation of Islam. Not every Muslim crashes planes into buildings. Every Muslim does, however, believe in the Qu'ran. Burning the Qu'ran is equivalent to insulting the entire religion in retaliation to a tiny little fringe group that the rest thinks is crazy. Does that seem right to you? Basically, I see it this way. A bunch of idiots are trying really dang hard to give their group a bad name, and another bunch of idiots is taking the bait hook, line and sinker, which reflects badly on their group in turn. It's a bad deal all around and it makes everyone within three degrees of separation of either of these groups look bad.
You are making it sound like atrocities are the only reason to protest by burning books (again, not supporting book burning). A group could choose to burn bibles to protest the Catholic church's practice of protecting pedophiles or protesting the fatwa that forces women to wear a niqaab. You are stating that it shows religious intolerance, but it could also be an act that protests an intolerant action by a religious institution. This issue is obviously not one of a group protesting, but rather one of intolerance. That doesn't mean that anyone burning a holy book is being intolerant, just like how everyone that burns an American flag isn't doing it because they hate America. -
Gainesville Qu'ran Burning Controversy
See the quote from me below: I am simply pointing out that, in my view, the broader issue I have with this is the burning of any book in general. I personally think that religion often gets a free pass simply because it is religion - it becomes immune to criticisms, both reasonable and unreasonable. So, for me, the issue is not that we're talking about the burning of a religious book - I am just as opposed to those schools in America that burned Harry Potter for equally stupid reasons.
Pleiades asked requested some clarification earlier, so I thought I'd kill tow bird with one by clarifying my post with by responding to James'. While I too don't support book burning, I almost think that this is the reason while burning a bible or Qu'ran would have more meaning and is less offensive than burning a normal work of fiction. Burning a holy book can be a form of non-violent protest to towards the actions carried out by people that value that book. There are a lot of legitimate reasons to protest the actions of religious groups. There isn't a single logical reason to protest Harry Potter. On another note, I think it was some tiny churches in the US burning Harry Potter, not schools. Regardless, that was asinine. -
I was reading an illustration magazine earlier today when I came across a feature on designing logos. It got me thinking, not about designing my own logos, but about logos that I love. There are iconic logos, the Nike swoosh, Appleâ??s apple, and Disneyâ??s Mickey ears, that need no text accompanying them. And there are also a lot of brilliant logos for smaller companies and organizations. I thought, with all of these incredible logos out there, we should have a place to share our favorites. So, here it is, the amazingly great and creative logo thread. Families Need Fathers is a UK charity. To be honest, I know nothing about the charity, but the logo is really clever. I love how the creator used the â??nâ? of the acronym as the shadow behind the two â??fâ?s. I saw this logo in a design magazine a few months back. I donâ??t know if Core Cider still exists, but Iâ??d buy it just for the logo design. I think their logo is equally as nifty, then again, Iâ??m a sucker for toons.

Gainesville Qu'ran Burning Controversy
Heaven's Cloud replied to Gavin's topic in General Discussion
I think that the burning of any book is an offense of a kind, whether that book is Harry Potter or the Qu'ran. I don't think that religious texts should be afforded more respect than any other text, simply because they are religious, but I do think that book burning should be safely associated with barbaric idiocy.
I would argue that if you were forced to choose between burning a Harry Potter novel or a religious text (specifically the Qu'ran or the Bible) your better off burning a religious text. Might as well save the work of fiction that hasn't directly contributed to the death of so many people. That, and Harry Potter is the least ridiculous and fantastical of all three books. I think it is strange that people don't find the burning of Qu'rans to be a very christian practice. The Qu'ran is not recognized as a holy book by any Christian organization that I am familiar with, and therefore it should be considered an idol. I mean according to the Bible the Qu'ran would have to be considered a "thing of naught" (Leviticus) and something that lends to "wind and confusion" (Isaiah), both of which are biblical definitions of idols. Now we all know that the bible finds idolatry bad, but it also states that you ave to turn the other cheek, therefore you can't attack idol worshipers. So what is the next best thing to pyres of people? Pyres of idols. Anyway, the whole thing was really just a desperate grab at attention by a bunch of yokels. This wouldn't have become a national incident if the people involved didn't want it to. Lets face it, far more has been made of this then when Muslims is Gaza broke into a Latin Church in Gaza, ransacked it, and the burned all of the crosses and bibles. And they killed people while doing it! -
I have been interested in Spider-man: Shattered Dimensions since I heard rumors that Marvel was really looking to amp up the Spider-man video game series, in hopes that they will have a critically acclaimed hit on their hands (like Batman: Arkham Asylum was for DC). The plot, like most comics turned video games, is pretty simple. Mysterio, one of Spidey's rogues, attempts to steal a mystical artifact that grants the possessor great power. Spidey tries to stop him and during the melee the artifact is shattered and scattered throughout space-time. Of course the pieces conveniently make their way into the hand of more and more villains. Fortunately, each dimension has its own incarnation of Spider-man that is willing to step up and thwart evil-doers. I've managed to squeeze a few hours of game play into my schedule and so far the game is okay, which is disappointing if you expect Marvel's own Arkham Asylum but fantastic if you are comparing it to the previous incarnations of Spider-man games. The graphics are fun, think Mark Bagley meets the illustrator from the cartoon Archer, and work with the lighthearted, bad-joke cracking Spider-man(men), and the sound track and voice acting are all pretty good. The best part of the game is definitely playing around with the various Spideys. Each has their own abilities, Amazing Spidey does all the cool web tricks like making web bats and spiked balls, 2099 Spidey has a hyper-vigilance mode that allows him to drastically slow down time during attacks, and Ultimate Spidey is bonded to the symbiote making him super strong. My personal favorite is the Noir Spider-man. Noir Spider-man's specialty is to stick to the shadows and confront enemies quickly and violently. You don't really want to push fights with Noir Spidey, he gets gunned down pretty easily. The best part of playing with Noir Spidey is the dialogue. The game takes a really campy edge with narrative straight out of a bad '20s detective film. It is wonderful. The downside of the game is the game play. While much improved over previous incarnations, their are still quite a few flaws. The biggest flaw is that the same button that is used to quickly web swing to designated points is also the button used for basic web swinging, you tap the button to swing to a designated point and hold it to swing. The problem is that it often doesn't work. I frequently find myself attempting to move to a designated point only to swing around crazily. The battle system is okay, kind of Devil May Cry like, where you can learn new combos and stringing combos earns you points. All in all, the game is pretty fun. I don't know if I would rush out and buy it, but it is definitely worth picking up when the price drops a bit.

Byron materialized in the courtyard. Other spirits gathered there. The one called the Bandit was in a heated conversation with the emotionless Gravedigger. Byron ignored them and walked towards Jacqueline Masey. He supposed that the corpse would smell quite fowl if he still had a sense of smell. The harpy had fed from the artistâ??s intestines and stomach, exposing her insides to the elements. As he stared at the young womanâ??s face he wondered why he had called her to the mansion. Her only sin was sex and as any self-respecting spirit would tell you, sex itself wasnâ??t really a sin, not unless it was in the context of rape or adultery. No, he had brought her here for another reason Do want to remember? The Gravedigger was behind him, and his voice slid over Byron like cold mud. I can make you remember if youâ??d like. Byron took a second and then whispered his response. Yesâ?¦ *** Johnathan Byron stepped out of the carriage and into the cool fall afternoon. Before him stood the Rosengard Estate, a beautiful colonial mansion that was nestled in hundreds of acres of perfectly manicured gardens. It was truly breathtaking. Byronâ??s benefactor stood behind him. Jason Hamilton was one of the wealthiest merchants in the west. Shipping lanes, spices, rare minerals, tobacco, Hamilton had his hands in all of them. Hamilton had recently brought Johnathan on as his personal investor and broker. At first Johnathan wondered if Hamilton hadnâ??t made a mistake, he had never been responsible for investments of this magnitude before and had no hands on experience in dealing with large trades. However, Jonathan caught on quick and soon became Hamiltonâ??s star employee. Things were wonderful for Jonathan, he had a beautiful wife, a daughter that was about to marry an upstanding young man and a new job that was making his family very wealthy. On top of all that Hamilton had brought him to the Rosengard Estate to vacation (and discuss a little business) with Wyatt Rosengard. Jonathan and Hamilton entered the manor escorted by bellhops and butlers. At the foot of the stairs Wyatt Rosengard greeted them. He was a young man, Jonathan pegged his age at thirty, with a pleasant demeanor and a firm handshake. There was something about Rosengardâ??s eyes, something truly unnerving that bothered him. The group spent the next several hours wandering the mansion. They visited the gallery, where painting gorgeous enough to make you weep mingled with horrifying sculptures from far away continents, and the atrium, where a terrible harpy was confined in a large habitat. They had dinner in a dining room the size of a hotel, and feasted on fantastic foods with spices unfamiliar to Johnathan. Finally they retired to the library. Hamilton and Johnathan were seated in club chairs facing a roaring fire. Rosengard poured snifters of brandy and passed them to the gentlemen before he himself sat in a large wing-backed chair. â??Have you discussed my proposal with your associate?â? asked Rosengard as he swirled his brandy. â??No, I wanted you to go over the whole process from the beginning. Jonathan here is very detailed oriented, perhaps heâ??ll find yet another opportunity to capitalize on our new endeavor,â? said Hamilton. Jonathan turned to Rosengard who had begun to speak about a recent trip of his to some far away continent, a place rich with precious stones and minerals. He spoke of the natives there and their bloody customs of rape and sacrifice. He told of how they are able to control and protect their land due to the topography of the area and the thick jungle. And finally he talked about how he would get the natives to allow him to mine their land. â??You see, their customs are quite unique. They believe that their gods require a special sacrifice; the spark of life, youth, and death all must be present at the same time,â? explained Rosengard. â??I donâ??t understand,â? replied Jonathan. â??Neither did I, until I saw it myself. The leader of the tribe brings a child onto the alter, rapes the child, and, at the moment of climax, beheads him or her.â? â??My God,â? Jonathan said, horrified. â??How are you going to eradicate these monsters and take there land? Didnâ??t you say that it is impossible to move troops into the region?â? â??Eradicate them? No, no, we have discovered what to trade them. Donâ??t you see? They need children.â? â??Iâ?¦Iâ?¦no you canâ??t be serious. I wonâ??t be a part of this.â? Hamilton pleaded with Jonathan, but he was having none of it. Jonathan was about to storm from the manor when Rosengard hit him in the head with the fireplace poker. Jonathan awoke when he hit the water. He was disoriented. His arms were chained and his feet, his feet seemed to be covered in something. He knew he had to swim had to get out of the water, his breath was running short and the pressure in his ears was unbearable. His struggles were fruitless however. Jonatahan Byron thought of his wife and his daughter right before he gasped in a mouthful of pond water. *** Byron stared at Jacqueline Masey, a face that looked so much like his long lost daughter. It wasnâ??t his daughter though, the girl wasnâ??t even his granddaughter. Still, his bloodline ran through her, even generations couldnâ??t was that away. Byron kissed the girls forehead and a faint glow surrounded her. Jacqueline breathed and then coughed as she violently reentered the world. Obviously tastes change and evolve over time, but it is strange how that I donâ??t care much for a lot of albums that I loved growing up. How about you? Jot down a quick list of your favorite albums from 5 to 10 years ago and compare them to albums from that era that you listen to now. If your tastes have changed drastically why do you think they have changed?

Thanks, honestly I think I have started more threads in the last few days then I did in a typical year when I was more active. Hopefully it will encourage other members to do the same and attract more people to the boards.

GoldenEye for N64 is still considered by a lot of gamers to be the quintessential multi-player FPS game. While I do enjoy a good FPS (I suck at them, but I love playing them and am a huge Modern Warfare fan) I really haven't found an FPS with a multi-player mode that I have found as exciting as GoldenEye was. Sure, a lot of games have copied the system, but few (that I have played) have truly improved upon it enough to make me want to buy the game for multi-player alone...until now. Last week Infinity Ward released a video discussing Wager Mode, a new multi-player aspect of Call of Duty: Black Ops. I won't take the time to write about wager mode, instead I'll post a video below. Tell me what you think, do you think the concept kicks as much ass as I do?
Bad storms huh... I don't know if I even have the right to talk about bad weather compared to anyone living in the central plains (specifically tornado alley). But still Detroit's had some pretty rough weather this season alone. (More like end of Spring beginning of Summer type thing) A lot of our bad weather came in the overnight hours. And this is almost back-to-back (every other day) storms would roll through late at night causing me not to sleep because we'd be under a tornado warning.
Sure you have the right to complain about it! Just because they have more bad weather, doesn't mean they hold the monopoly on it. I get lots of tornado warnings where I live as well, fortunately no bad ones have ever wandered this way. When I lived in the Piedmont area of North Carolina we would watch the funnel clouds form in the flatter lands South of us. We lived in a pretty hilly area and apparently tornadoes tend to disperse when they hit areas with really diverse topography. It was pretty cool looking from afar. We get quite a few bad thunderstorms up here in Ohio, and today we had a brief but violent hailstorm that actually managed to crack to of my coworkers windshields.
While waiting is probably a good strategy CaNz, it doesn't really work if everyone waits and nobody posts. Given we have more Death Cards than characters at this point everyone is going to lose their characters, so it's really down to what happens afterwards but before the round ends.
I just haven't posted because I haven't had the chance. I plan on posting either today or tomorrow as well. To be honest, I have absolutely no strategy in this game, every thing I have done has been entirely random
