RISK, and other awesome board games!
Heaven's Cloud replied to Artemis's topic in General Discussion
I have always been a huge fan of board games. I guess that my favorite board game is Monopoly, not just because of fond childhood memories, but because I rule at the game. I guess I just take sadistic pleasure by forcing friends and family into the dire droves of bankruptcy. When I worked for Abercrombie and Fitch tow or three years ago, another manager and I got to talking about how cool the game of life was. So I went and bought it during my lunch break, and all of the employees played it for like three hours. Obviously we were not all that dedicated. Trivial Pursuit is also a really fun game. My old roommates and I played drinking trivial pursuit on rainy weekends. It is funny how difficult it is trying to remember who invented the cotton gin when you are three sheets to the wind. -
MA KO's Ban on Gay marriages
Heaven's Cloud replied to ChibiHorsewoman's topic in General Discussion
Some times I wonder why I even bother posting in these threads, but here it goes. I have absolutely no idea how any rational person would consider comparing homosexuality to bestiality. A sexual act or preference between two consenting adults could not be more different from a sexual act between a person and a goat, mainly because there is quite a communication barrier between species. I really don?t care about the religious implications of gay marriage because for quite sometime the United States has operated with the assumption that government and religion should be kept separate. I also think that the assumptions of marriage leading to family also has no bearing in the argument, for many married couples don?t have children, while many gay couples (especially lesbians) have children. A marriage between two homosexuals should be recognized by the government because it helps to encourage and promote the tolerance that our country supposedly strives for. If two homosexual people are pledging to spend the rest of their lives together, shouldn?t they receive the same legal rights as two heterosexual people would? I think I?ll present a hypothetical situation and maybe it will clarify my viewpoint a bit. Bill and Steve had been a couple for twenty years. Bill was recently diagnosed with Leukemia, and the doctor gave him eight months to live. Unfortunately, Bill?s health deteriorated faster than the doctor imagined. One week later he was rushed to the intensive care ward at a local hospital, Steve was devastated. He drove to the hospital, but was not allowed to see Bill. Unfortunately the appropriate paper work had not been completed in time because Bill became so rapidly ill, and Steve was not admitted because he was not an immediate family member of Bill?s. Unfortunately, Bill had no immediate family, so there was no way to validate Steve?s request. By the time Bill?s attorney arrived at the hospital with the documents that proved Steve to be Bill?s executor, Bill had died. Steve was devastated because he couldn?t say goodbye. It seems to me that the government doesn?t want to condone gay marriages because they don?t want to take the time to change the legislation that encompasses it. There is quite a bit that would need modification, health care laws, insurance laws, next of kin laws, hospitalization and disability laws, and marriage tax laws just to name a few. But it needs to be done, because nothing good has ever come out of segregating a specific community. -

A 4) OtakuBoards has a friendly atmosphere. B (there are some moments and some members :)) SECTION B Please try to keep your answers relatively short in this section. 5) How often do you visit OtakuBoards? regularly, about every day or so 6) Do you feel that the rules are too strict/not strict enough/fine as they are? I think they are perfectly appropriate 7) Should we continue to uncensor the creative writing areas on OtakuBoards? yes, as long as members continue to respect the idea that it encourages creativity and is not blatantly abused 8) Would you rather a decentralized forum system on OB (more forums, less activity per forum) or a centralized forum system (less forums, more activity per forum)? I prefer a more centralized system, it saves me from having to point and click through a ton of mess. 9) Would you like to see a closer integration of myOtaku and OtakuBoards? no, I think that it is fine as it is 10) Are you signed up to myOtaku.com? of course 11) If you are not signed up to myOtaku.com, do you plan to sign up in the near future? Otaku Public 14) Do you think that OtakuBoards should offer an in-built chat system as part of our service? If we included a chat, would you use it? it would be a nifty feature, but I am not sure if I would use it 15) If we offered an "OtakuBoards Wireless" service that would be accessible via Internet-capable cellphones, would you use it? no, I have no patience for my cell phone?s internet capability 16) When we offer a next generation version of OtakuBoards, should we continue to provide semi-regular community events in our Event Arena or a similar forum? yes, the event forum is a great forum?it would be wonderful to have even more future events 17) If you could add one new Category (Category, not Forum) to OtakuBoards, what would it be? can?t think of one that strikes my fancy 18) If you could remove one Category from OtakuBoards, what would it be? If I had to remove one, it would be the Series Category. Most of those forums could be broken into the gaming category. However, I think it is a good Category because members frequent those titles. 19) If you could add anything to OtakuBoards (in terms of a new forum, a technical tool/feature, etc), what would it be? A tool that allows you have set font settings for color and style 20) On a scale of 1-10 (1 being the lowest and 10 being the highest), how would you rate your experience at OtakuBoards since you registered? 10, I love the OB, if I didn?t I would have left long ago

I wished away Well wishers That haunted my Harlot filled fantasies I chased away Chasers And went straight To the shooter?s shot glass And in a sea of smoke And a mist of whiskey I step in time To the beat of my breath And in hot fire And dizzied daisyed head I spin I spin Tomorrow I will swear to be another man And then the next day I?ll change my path To seek out familiar land I called out The caller?s name As a dodgy digital Voice spoke out I turned around The turning point Two times One hundred and eighty degrees And in an hours flight And in a moment length I step from the ground Using my own strength And up in grace In heaven?s space I spin I spin Tomorrow I will swear to be another man And then the next day I?ll change my path To seek out familiar land -
Writing Can anyone stall and give me the directions to TP Topia?
Heaven's Cloud replied to Mitch's topic in Creative Works
Wow, Mimmi?s reply was so sugary that it left my teeth aching after reading it. After a compliment that saturated with sucrose I bet Mitch will need a root canal. Although I rarely find myself in a public restroom stall armed with a writing utensil, if I were to have a trusty bic I would be one of those pubescent scribes. Of course I would blatantly use the ?f?- word, but I would flaunt it with grandeur and style. The story was a good read Mitch, I always enjoy humorous comments about the ordinary. -
I really enjoy movies that deal with war for some reason. I guess they usually have quite an enthralling story and the action scenes are very intense. It is hard to lump all movies together and pick a favorite war movie though. There are some outstandingly thought provoking movies like Full Metal Jacket and Apocalypse Now, and some movies have amazing action sequences like Braveheart and Saving Private Ryan. I guess that my favorite war movie would probably be Glory. It is such an outstanding movie. It was shot well, the acting is incredible, and the story was a beautiful account of a true portion of American history. As far as favorite action movies, I would have to say Enter the Dragon is at the top of my list. Although it may not be my absolute favorite, I have watched it nine billion times more than any other movie, so sheer numbers win again I guess?.

Pro-life Pro choice. Let's be mature, kay?
Heaven's Cloud replied to ChibiHorsewoman's topic in General Discussion
I debated a little bit over whether or not I would post my thoughts on this subject. Being a man, I realize I have an opinion on abortion, but I also have formed an opinion that my opinion is meaningless because I am a guy, I don?t have to give birth to a child. I have always been pro-choice, primarily because life is filled with mistakes, and I wholeheartedly believe that bringing a child into the world should not be one of them. Accidents happen in life, and if a person is truly not capable of raising a child, they need to decide what the morally sound option is for them. People should practice protected sex if they are sexually active, unfortunately every now and then one slips passed the goalie. I know that I am not responsible enough, emotionally or financially, to take care of a child right now, so if the situation ever occurred I would want to be able to choose, or rather go over the choices with my partner (for it is ultimately the woman?s choice). Obviously some people find huge moral and ethical implications when it comes to abortion. Questions such as ?isn?t killing a fetus murder?? and ?don?t you think a fetus is alive?? I understand and respect these view points, however, I don?t remember being a fetus, so I guess I have just written a fetus off as unaware?yeah, that is a stupid, illogical point but that is my point. As far as further reasoning, Semjaza?s point on choice and right to choose more or less sums up my mindset. -
Oh boy, is it ever good being on top of the food chain. Sure it seems horrible watching animals head to mass slaughter, but it is all worth it. If those animals weren?t slaughtered I wouldn?t have been able to eat that tender, juicy horseradish and mustard crusted fillet at such a reasonable price last night. No offense, but PETA is made up of a bunch of screwball crackpots that took ten too many hits of sunshine acid. I find it hilarious that they are the biggest hypocrites of all. If you really take the time to think about it PETA?s whole extremist stance is a bit laughable. They tend to lean towards liberating animals, in a sense they want everything to exist in their natural environment. The problem with this thinking is that they exclude people. We are the world?s greatest predators, and our most useful asset is the ability to manipulate the environment. I guess the biggest irony of all is that the extremists at PETA often time forget that people are an integral part of nature?

I guess that I have always thought of male chauvinists as men that feel that a woman?s role in life should be to cater to her man. I guess that it could be classified in different ways in today?s world, especially since a person can demean another in so many various manners. Although I am quick to make the ?woman, go make me a samwich!? joke in a humorous manner, I think I fall very short of being a male chauvinist. I guess that since I expect a woman that I am with to be a freethinking individual that has their own ambitions and aspirations out side of me. As far as the term ?player? (or ?playa? as we call it in the hood?what hood that is I have no idea), I have been dubbed that on more than one occasion. I guess it has to do with the fact that I date a lot, and (apparently) I am a horrible flirt. I guess I do date quite a bit, but I really don?t consider myself to be a flirt, mainly because I tend to ask normal questions like ?hello, how are you? and ?how do you know such and such a person? and don?t spew lines like ?oh baby, you look good in that skirt?. I just enjoy conversation I guess. I do date quite a bit so I really have no defense in that category, although I don?t use women, I am just trying to find the right one. It seems as though the original post had more to do with arrogance than anything else. I think a lot of guys tend to confuse arrogance and confidence, there is a line between the two and unfortunately it is crossed to often.

Although I love my family and several of my friends I think that you are more than likely referring to romantic love or love in its apparent absolute form. I have always been of the mindset that if you think you are in love or you can explain how love feels, then you aren?t or haven?t been in love in the romantic sense. Then again, I am pretty old fashioned when it comes to these things. Personally, I know that I have never been in love, at least ?in love? in the manner that I picture it. I have, however, thought I was in love many times, but I realized later on that it was mainly just a combination of lust and familiarity. I don?t really think that love is something bound by age but I do think that emotions tend to require maturity, that is why I am skeptical when teenagers say that they are in love.

I?ve been playing the guitar for several years now and, like most things in life, it is very difficult and takes quite a bit of dedication. Although I am not an incredible guitar player by any means I know that I can hold my own, and I have become familiar enough with the instrument. As for the bass guitar being harder or easier than a standard guitar it all depends on what you want to do with it. If you want to be a mediocre musician the instruments are pretty even, although the bass may be slightly easier. If you want to become proficient on either than it really doesn?t matter, they both are challenging it just depends on what your intentions are. I have always been of the mindset that you should play guitar first and then learn bass if you are not sure which one you would prefer. Good Luck

2004 Re-Elections [a.k.a. Is Bush a Good President?]
Heaven's Cloud replied to eleanor's topic in General Discussion
Originally posted by PoisonTongue I'm going to ignore pretty much everything that has been said, for a few different reasons. So, since I'm ignoring the "customary" reasons for disliking Bush...I dislike him because of the No Child Left Behind Act. This is a recently proposed/enacted "bill" of sorts that requires high schools to maintain a relatively positive testing average, and heavily penalizes schools that "don't make the grade." It seems that this act stemmed from some inane ideal that every child has the capacity to do well on exams. Anybody that attended any high school anywhere knows this isn't the case.
Education is usually my biggest qualm with nearly every political administration, whether local or National. It is no different with the Bush administration. He has done absolutely nothing to aide national education except attempt to implement stricter standardized testing laws. The No Child Left Behind Act was originally a decent principle, but it was so twisted and changed during legislation that it became a horrid monstrosity. The bill was originally intended to provide additional funding to schools that exceeded standardized testing scores while at the same time encourage teacher workshops for schools that achieved at a below average. Granted, it still had some serious problems (namely the ones you mentioned about standardized testing being the bane of the learning process, which I wholeheartedly agree with), but at least it was pro-active. What ended up getting ole? G Dubs seal of approval was a perversion of the bill that didn?t really provide additional funding but, rather, could take away portions of national funds from schools that achieved poorly on the tests. That doesn?t make much sense in my mind. Unfortunately, besides John Edwards (whose stance I am aware of because he is kind of a home town hero) I am unsure of the rest of the Democratic candidates? viewpoints on Education because it never seems to be worth more than a few blurbs in the papers and in the news. 2004 Re-Elections [a.k.a. Is Bush a Good President?]
Heaven's Cloud replied to eleanor's topic in General Discussion
Saddam is far from any type of terrorist. Murderer, yes, terrorist no. He hasn't planted any bombs to blow up people. He hasn't flown planes into the world trade centers... he had nothing to do with any of that.... the only thing Saddam has done was kill Kurds.... and that was something that has been going on for many, many years, not something since Saddam came in.
About a year and a half before Saddam invaded Kuwait (you may be a terrorist if the word ?invade? is part of your political agenda) he released mustard gas in a government office building in Al Abraq, killing over two hundred and fifty people. I would think that would be a pretty decent example of terrorism, especially since he claimed responsibility.
Now about what you said about the Muslim community... Would you give a damn if your mother was one of the people killed in the trade centers because of what the Muslim community thinks of the US? How about later on if you are face to face with a Muslim with a gun and your American and he doesn't like Americans.... and therefore he shoots you... because of what he thinks of American.... you'd care then wouldn't you?
No. I am more intelligent than to blame a set culture for the indiscretions of a small community. Unfortunately many Muslims in Iraq and Afghanistan have been programmed to hate Americans and they have little if no linear rationale behind their actions. The fact is people all over the world hate America. The difference between the people in Australia that hate America and the Afghanis that hate America is that Australians aren?t crashing airplanes into our buildings. So to put it simply, I?ll never care if people hate America for logical or even illogical reasons. Our army is not around to placate other countries and make them our buddies; it is around to ensure that our way of life is protected. I think America?s track record for building allies out of enemies more than speaks for itself.
The Muslims were such peaceful people once... and then "we" just had to go and start crusades with them... and take their land away.... I couldn't imagine why they are so god damn upset.
I don?t understand why the Muslim community would be upset about the Crusades, at least not at the US. We had nothing to do with the Crusades. I don?t think that even the most fanatical of Muslims hates the US because of the Crusades, they have plenty of other reasons to dislike us. Edit: Dagger, what is your point? I strayed off topic a bit, granted, but I didn't need a history lesson that isn't accurate. The reason why we are attacked by middle eastern terrorists is because we (the US) have a constant habbit of muddling in their affairs and exploiting their economies. We have chosen sides in civil wars and supplied weapons to further our own agendas. That is why terrorists hate us, not because of the Crusades. Sure Bin Laden might reference the Crusades and the injustice that occured at the hands of the infidels, but never once has a terrorrist bombed us because America had anything to do with the Crusades. Sorry to be so harsh but jeez, use some common sense -
2004 Re-Elections [a.k.a. Is Bush a Good President?]
Heaven's Cloud replied to eleanor's topic in General Discussion
Originally posted by Transtic Nerve Having American soldiers die for 2 men we can't even find.... Thats a bad thing. The administration lied to us about weapons of mass destruction.... none have yet to be found, yet on average, 2 soldiers die every day..... and for what cause? Hussein was also found to have no links to Osama Bin Laden or the 9/11 attacks, or any recent terrorism we've encountered. In fact the only logical thing to go into this war was for a humanitary cause to stop Hussien from killing Kurds... but they never mentioned that when we went into this war..... that and the whole oil thing. Which has obviously been a big part in the reasoning for the war... I purely think this war is based on revenge and the fact that Bush needed "something to do" because he doesn't want to deal with our slumpy economy or the fact he can't seem to find Osama Bin Laden.
Again, it just seems like the difference of opinion. First off, TN, I don?t expect you to support Bush, especially since you are a pacifist. I really doubt that you would support the war for any reason, even if the White House administration didn?t muddle through the reasoning. I still think that Saddam harbored weapons of mass destruction, and I think it is good that the sick, murdering SOB is out of power. I think the war was and is worth it. Personally, I don?t give a damn what the Muslim community thinks of the US, as long as they are able to make up their own minds about America and aren?t being force fed anti-US opinions by terrorists. That is what Saddam was, that is what Bin Laden was, terrorists. As for how I feel about the president ignoring the economy because of the war, I agree that Bush could be doing a better job with the economy. However, if American?s as a whole have to sacrifice a triple latte a week so an oppressed nation can possibly be free than so be it. There is a lot that Bush isn?t doing right, or at least isn?t improving. America?s educational system is in shambles, the affirmative action bill needs to be seriously reevaluated, and social security has to be revamped before it dwindles into nothing. These are the issues I would like to see candidates address, but they aren?t. All they are whining about is the validity behind a war that we are already involved in. -
2004 Re-Elections [a.k.a. Is Bush a Good President?]
Heaven's Cloud replied to eleanor's topic in General Discussion
It seems like the two biggest complaints against Bush are the war and the economy. I have yet to read a logical, slightly convincing post on why the war on Iraq is a bad thing, so I am going to discount that argument right away. The White House administration may have given flimsy reasoning towards war, but sometimes the ends do justify the means. If we were to pull out of Iraq right now we would be making the same mistakes we did during Desert Storm. So, needless to say, I am slightly unwilling to support a candidate that will remove our troops from Iraq. The economy is fluctuating right now, fluctuating around in the toilet. I really think that Bush could do more to aid the economy, but it isn?t his fault that it is in the crapper. He was in office three months when it plummeted and since then we (America) have had the most massive terrorist attack of all time, had several natural disasters, and have gone to war. I really don?t expect our economy to be stellar. I do think it is odd how we tend to blame the president for our entire economy, but fail to hold congress accountable. I guess it is easier to hold one man accountable than a group of adult adolescents that won?t even show to vote on an education reform bill. I don?t think that George Bush has been a bad president and I don?t think that he has been a good president. Whether or not Gore would have done a better job is absolutely pointless, Gore wasn?t elected. The real question is, can another candidate do a better job than Bush? I like John Edwards, I think he has the best stance of all the democratic candidates and I think he would be the least likely to remove troops from Iraq. However, the chances of him winning the primaries are slim and none. Right now I am not terribly impressed with any of the democratic front runners, least of all Howard Dean. If it comes down to Bush and Dean, as of right now my vote would be for Bush. There is still a little over a year until election time, so I guess there is still a lot that could occur that may sway my mind. -
I think I missed the majority of your point, partly because you didn?t make a point and partly because your typing is absolutely horrible. So my first bit of advice would be don?t talk like you write, you probably would end up sounding worse than Mush Mouth from Fat Albert. Second, do you ?not know? your girlfriend, or do you ?not know? if you have been going out for ten or eleven months? Again, it isn?t clear in your post. If you don?t know your girlfriend than I doubt you have a problem because you don?t really even have a girlfriend. If you don?t know how long you have been going out maybe you should pay her more attention. Anyway, my point is, you need to express yourself in a clear manner.

Well, I find myself a very interesting person so I would probably invite them in and knife them to death. Did I say knife them to death, I meant offer them coffee...yeah I would offer them coffee, have a nice chat, and then knife them to death. I mean, if I kill me from a past life I am pretty safe...the cops aren't going to expect me killing me. And to be honest, if I killed myself from a past life wouldn't that be considered suicide? Edit: I misunderstood the question. I guess if she was really hot I'd invite her in...

It brought a ton of new technology to Africa. Slaves were mainly traded for guns and farming tools that helped stabalize a very nomadic country. It helped encourage economic trade after the slave trade ended(however, this is very debatable because most of the people in charge of large African companies are of European decent), especially diamonds... That is pretty much the extent of reasons I can think of...

Police Raid for Drugs at a High School
Heaven's Cloud replied to Semjaza's topic in General Discussion
Originally posted by vegeta rocker I disagree however with the severity of the raid being the first thing parents think of, rather then just what their kids are doing.
I?d have to disagree with that comment. If I was a parent and I found out that a raid like that occurred, I would initially be very concerned about my son or daughter having a firearm waved in their face why they are forced to lay down in a degrading manner and searched like accused criminals. Less than one percent of the student body was found to have anything even remotely related to drugs on their person or within their property (lockers, automobiles), yet the administration of the High School compared the drug use on school property to a form of cancer. Obviously the vast majority of the students that attend said high school were guilty of nothing more than being young. It is odd how society so quickly condemns and labels the youth. If one cop was to shoot a kid in error, I doubt that schools would suggest that the role of police officers in schools should be reevaluated. However, if a young person was to shoot a police officer at a school I guarantee that there would be a nationwide outcry for an increased police presence within schools. -
If you were turned into an action figure
Heaven's Cloud replied to ChibiHorsewoman's topic in General Discussion
Obviously there have been many Heaven?s Cloud action figures over the years, and they have long been a staple Christmas gift for the mentally disturbed. This year TynaCorp?s Heaven?s Cloud action figure has undergone some radical changes. Obviously, the most innovative aspect of the Heaven?s Cloud action figure has been its inflatable ego. This year the mechanism has been redesigned. Instead of having a plastic tube located in the groin area that was operated in similar fashion to a balloon, this year the ego is inflated by pulling up on a lever located in the groin region. Give it a jerk and watch the ego inflates! This year TynaCorp will release three models of the inflatable ego Heaven?s Cloud doll. Roller skating pimp HC will be equipped with a pair of Day-Glo Rollerblades that actually roll. Obviously no roller skating pimp would be complete without traditional bottle of penicillin shoved down the crotch of his too-tight striped pants. Wall Street HC if the perfect gift for any ulcer aspiring youngster; flip open the black attaché case to reveal a piece of a mirror and a gram of coke stuffed amongst various court summons. Using a modified version of the "Kung-Fu action motion" Wall Street HC can actually commit sucide with his razor blade accessories when his work becomes overbearing (fake blood sold seperately). And the new Heaven?s Cloud for President Doll comes with several vague campaign slogan bumper stickers and a crippling addiction for Malibu Stacy dolls. Contribute to your action figures campaign fund by sticking change in the slot in HC?s back, don?t worry about your action figure becoming cluttered by change, the money goes in and then magically disappears (thanks to a strong, hopefully safe, acidic substance). Obviously no Heaven?s Cloud action figure would be complete without Binky, his pet Marmoset. This year Binky is made out of real Nutria fur! Heaven?s Cloud, available in a store near you! -
